Yes, the swapmeet is still open, and there are a shocking number of orphaned perfumes that have not found new homes!
Meantime, it's Hump Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm giving Amouage Lilac Love a second chance, but I fear it is still headed for the "nope" pile.
Reminder: on 9/22 wear one of your "top 10 of fall" fragrances (unless it's spring where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of spring" scents).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown above is Pantone's Color Palette for London for Fall 2017. “Led by a vivid Flame Scarlet, the color palette for Autumn/Winter 2017/2018 is comprised of strong classics colors complemented by a few unpredictable shades for the autumn and winter seasons,” noted Eiseman. “Unexpected combinations such as Royal Lilac and Otter Brown or Lemon Curry with Bluebell are eye-arresting and create an unusual color dichotomy.”
My older monkey had us playing Down Under by Men at Work over and over and OVER again.. louder louder she kept saying .. good grief
In Vespers today by RbR
Unrelated to perfume. Anyone know of an affordable eye cream, I can’t afford to keep up with Sisley any longer
prayers to Mexico!
I like it, a retro monkey! Maybe try safety dance next, ha ha
Shellyw – Earworm transmission successful 🙂
Great
I can act real rude
And totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile
LOLOLOL
😉
Thanks for the ear worm..
I will try safety dance after they wake up!
what is your skin like? I made an at home eye cream – you melt shea butter, coconut oil, and either veg wax pastilles or bees wax together, then add rosehip oil and geranium oil. I love it. A teeny bit goes a long way.
That’s adorable!
Now I’ve got an image of a vegemite sandwich stuck in my head.
In regard to skin care, I am a fan of the NIOD line, from a company called Deciem, out of Canada. They have an eye serum that I use, and like. I will send you a sample when I put together your swap package, so you can test it. The company has about ten different “brands” of skin, hair, and health care products, with a different sort of thrust for each. The NIOD brand tends to be ultra science-forward, the Ordinary brand is super basic and inexpensive, and the Hylamide brand is somewhere in between.
I actually use Deciem too, I use the Hylamide face wash, and the ordinary Vitamin C and Azelaic Acid. I never thought of looking up their eye products. Thanks for the sample, nice to test things out.
One thing I loved about the Sisley eye cream is that it didn’t bother my eyes or give me those bumps. But, they have phased out the one I use and now have something in replace of that and I can’t justify the price either.
Totally seconding Deciem/Niod FECC!
I have a few recommendations for more affordable options–(in comparison to Sisley at least): Clinique All About Eyes, Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, for one with retinol– the Kate Somerville + Retinol Firming Eye Cream, (for de-puffing her Goat Milk one is really nice too), and Estee Lauder ANR Eye Concentrate Matrix. Hope you’re able to find something you like!
Thank you Elizabeth, I can sample some at Sephora I am sure
I can second the Kiehl’s eye cream. If you’re looking for hydration, it’s great. The only thing I don’t like about it is it comes in a pot.
I’m a little bit of a (non-affiliated) Paula’s Choice evangelist, and she just released an eye cream (her first and only since the line launched in 1995) earlier this year. Haven’t tried it myself, but at $33, it’s much more gently priced than Sisley!
Love Paula’s Choice, and hadn’t heard about the new eye cream – thank you for the heads-up!
What?! An eye cream from Paula’s Choice? Wasn’t she the one who kept saying that eye creams were gimmicks, and one didn’t need a special cream for that area and could use a regular one?
She was indeed! Her explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAsj9YZ88K4
Yes, and thus I don’t listen to a thing she has to say about skincare. I also tried a bunch of her products when her line first came out and really disliked all of them.
Undina, yes and yes! HA!
I do love PC products, her exfoliating body cream has been a lifesaver on my KP skin , especially on my arms.
I like and use many products from the line. I just couldn’t pass by.
I second her eye cream.
I like the Pai one for a simple, clean, non-irritating and hydrating eye cream.
I like that description
That is how sisley was for me..but with a huge price tag
Yes, prayers to Mexico !
I wanted to add that I also think it is such a cute scenario at your house this morning 🙂
I use L’Oreal Revitalift Anti-Wrinkle/Firming Eye Cream.
Thanks for the recommendation! That is surely affordable..
I am wearing Romeo di Romeo Gigli. Tagetes are somehow associated with autumn in my mind, so it’s really a fall fragrance for me.
Wearing Parfum d’Empire’s Cuir Ottoman. Suede and iris yumminess.
This one gets deeper and smokier on me as the temps drop.
yum! You smell delicious. I will pull out mine once the indian summer is over where I am.
Love that one! You smell great!
Yum.
Love that one! Still to hot in Montreal for it but I am looking forward to wearing it.
I love Cuir Ottoman. You smell wonderful.
I love Cuir Ottoman as well.
Haven’t tried that one yet; it’s been on my to try list.
I am light on scent this morning, China Rain liquid powder. Sadly August and September traded places this year – August was all balmy 70s and now it’s hot hot hot, makes it very hard to choose an appropriate sotd while the trees are more colorful everyday and the AC is at full throttle.
Yes, very strange weather here this year! But today is gorgeous.
I’m in Vivienne Westwood from head to toe!
Wearing Vivienne Westwood vintage Boudoir which smells magnificent, Vivienne Westwood FW 2017/18 new women’s blazer and tartan handbag.
I am not familiar with the scent, but I am sure you look magnificent 😀
I am not familiar either but you are look’n classy
I was just reading today with no intention to post, but had to change my mind when I saw your post–you have the cutest avatar ever! Yay for Vivienne Westwood but that cat competes!
It really is adorable 🙂
Too hot here in northern Virginia to wear fall fragrances – luckily I haven’t put away all my colognes yet. SOTD is O de Lancôme.
Same here — too hot to even think about fall fragrances.
I’m wearing Chloe Love today, and I’m about to drink a cup of hot lemon ginger tea with honey.
Hot lemon, ginger and honey sound like a cold is in residence
I just really like the taste of lemon ginger 🙂
I have been allergy problems for a few weeks though.
Hey! Twins! 😀
Triple strength coffee.
Workout.
Bois du Portugal Creed.
Sandalwood, vetiver, ambergris, a whisper of sweet lavender.
I don’t like lavender, but it is fantastic here.
Never say never.
Smells like visiting Uncle Sam and Aunt Anna.
I would get a crewcut in his basement barbershop, and my neck and face would be brushed clean with a wonderful woody talcum powder.
Then upstairs where my parents and Aunt Anna would be waiting with coffee and a thick slice of moist Jewish Apple Cake.
Wonderful to reminisce……
😀
Carpe Diem.
Peace.
You can send all lavender my way, Bear 🙂
And here I thought you’d want the Jewish Apple Cake!
😉
Or that, too ?
LOL
Cheers CM8! 😀
did not think I needed to tell YOU that :)…so yes, both please!!!
you smell great!
Thank you, Elizabeth!
I’ll have some of thay apple cake! Shana tova, Bear. 🙂
Thank you, cazaubon !
Shana tova to you, also.
😀
What a sweet memory.
😀
Decades ago I encountered the most wonderful cedar talc from the UK, dark green metal shaker container. Browsed ebay for it the other day, but nothing.
Flame scarlet is gorgeous. The rest…meh. My favorite colors are deep, rich jewel tones and soft, limpid water colors.
My tea is a second cup of coffee. SOTM was a teensy spritz of Un Bois Vanille for AM dog park duties. T-Rex is in a happy place- she ran her little legs off this morning, came home, cooled down, and now has a belly full of breakfast.
Planning on biking when I’m done with coffee but it is HOT HOT HOT! After all is said and done, post shower, I will wear Au Dela Narcisse because wearing it is like a special treat.
Oh, I’m with you on this palette. Blah, except for Flame Scarlet. I liked Navy Penny as well, despite its puzzling name.
Wearing Fracas, from a generous NST’er 🙂 AND, dabbed Lush Lust solid perfume on my wrists and behind ears.
You are FRAGRANT 😉
SOTD FM Superstitious. I wouldn’t consider it a daytime scent, but I needed an extra oomph today 🙂 Still working on a small sample, but I see at least a 10ml travel spray in my near future.
More summer, with highs in the 90s today. My library is acting as the Disaster Relief Center for our county and we have FEMA, Texas Workforce Commission, and Texas Health and Human Services providing relief services to clients in our meeting and conference rooms. We had a week’s worth of bodies in the building on both Monday and Tuesday. It has been interesting to say the least. Continuing on with my last of summer fling wearing PdN Balle de Match, probably one of my favorite eaus ever. Now known as L’Eau de Sport.
You smell fantastic!
Stay cool and hydrate! We had a recent heatwave – it’s not fun.
L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Extreme. Perfect, creamy cacao for Fall but light enough for the not-Fall weather today.
You smell fantastic! 🙂
Thank you and I wholeheartedly agree ????
Oh yes. Lovely. And for both genders.
Thank you! Perfectly unisex.
I have that one too. You smell great!
Thanks!
How does the Extreme version compare to the original? Is it simply more, well, extreme? My husband’s bottle of the original is getting low and I have thought about getting the Exteme for him, but don’t want to mess with a good thing. The original smells sooooo good on him.
The citrus in the top notes is more pronounced in the original IIRC. Ultimately they smelled pretty much the same to me once the top notes wore off. Maybe the edt was a little lighter? I gave away my edt decant I think because they were mostly similar and I had gotten a bottle of the edp.
Cool, thank you for the info 🙂
Amouage Reflection Man today. Not digging it, and of course it will last F O R E V E R… 😉
Isn’t that the one that smells like Le Male Jean Paul Gaultier ?
Yeah, I get the same impression from it. The JPG LM also lasts F O R E V E R.
Yeah, I don’t like lavender nor mint in scents, which LM JPG has.
But when testing, loads of compliments.
It is a crowd pleaser for sure!
😉
A friend used to wear Le Male, lots of it, every day. I was out shopping alone one day and he tried to sneak up and surprise me. I could smell him coming a mile away. No sneak attack; surprise foiled by JPG.
It is impossible for me to wear fall scents now. The temperature here will be in the 80’s for the rest of the week and the weekend might be even close to the 90’s.
This morning I reached for a bottle that I have not worn in many years. I just happened to see it: Ed Hardy Love & Luck. Not so appealing, rather boring and the sandalwood is annoying me greatly (sigh!) Ok, I know, I just wanted to give it a try after so many years, but it does not work for me anymore….
I gave away my bottle a few months back, because, like you said, it was just boring. Pleasant though.
Unfortunately, I think my bottle also has to go away.
yes, its not fall weather here at all, but the light! Beautiful fall light..
We cannot complain about the light! I think that is the only fall enjoyment we have now.
No love and no luck with that one for you ???? Hoping it fades fast!
Ha! You are right 😀
Wearing my fall no-brainer, JM’s Wood Sage and Sea Salt. Very nice for the desert autumn and a break from hot weather citrus.
I love lilac scents, but I haven’t tried Lilac Love. Is it a soliflore? Anyone out there who likes it?
I didn’t care for it, I found it suffocatingly powdery and there was no lilac whatsoever.
Well, no lilac makes my decision an easy one . . .
Sorry for late reply, but, plus, sweet! Although there are sweet powdery scents I love. This just isn’t one of them. And does not even slightly call up lilac for me.
I tried it a couple of times because I kept hoping that the lilac I had failed to detect would suddenly appear . But it didn’t. Instead it’s the worst gardenia imaginable mixed with johnsons baby powder…or something similar. It seems to ‘stick’ to the skin in a weird way. There is no lilac apart from the colour of the bottle. I still want to like it .
I’m a big fan of both Lyric and Gold, but it sounds like I can definitely skip this one.
Opardu is a gorgeous lilac, IMHO. Unfortunately, it’s very expensive.
It’s truly and utterly awful!
There appears to be an overwhelming consensus on this one.
Well I think you smell great nicolasix and pfffft to the rest of them 🙂
Don’t worry Robin. I didn’t like Lilac Love either.
This morning it was only 7°C so I thought insense will be good, therefore Sauf Contre Bombarde 32 is my sotd
I would say I hate it. Hated Blossom Love too. Not sure why I keep trying Amouage fragrances.
Blossom Love was like a gooey syrup I wouldn’t even dare to add to a cup of coffee, much meh.
Amouage has been on a slump in the last few years in my opinion.
I loathed both of these too but then love Brakken woman, which I know is a love or hate for most people. Hence the keeping on trying them on, for me, anyway.
That is my next sample in line. I will give it a shot, eventually.
It’s difficult to imagine that they once came out with stunners like Gold, Ubar, Jubilation 25 and Beloved. I enjoyed Myths Woman, and rather liked Bracken Woman, but would never pay Amouage prices for either.
So true! I love the older Amouages, although they’re not really “me” (Gold, Memoir, Lyric, Jubilation 25 … ) and I did like Bracken Woman very much. But not enough to pay that much for it. I got an 8 ml spray from a subscription, and I’m very happy with that.
The Jubilations were the first under Christopher Chong, and I thought both of them were great. Truly I have not wholeheartedly adored anything Amouage has put out since then. But, I have not tried 100% of them.
I like a number of the later ones, Beloved being a case in point, which I almost love as much as Gold Woman. Opus III is very nice, and Memoir Woman and Fate Woman are beautiful, complex perfumes, although not really personal favourites.
Sunshine, Blossom, Lilac Hot Mess are just awful, imho of course.
Have you tried any of the Figment perfumes? I recall that Cazaubon didn’t like the Figment woman.
Oh yes, I did. Unfortunately I did [shrugs]
Both smelled like a leftover, stale and stinky water in a vase after someone has thrown away decaying flower bouquet.
Bad doesn’t express this perfume enough…
ugh! that is quite a vivid description of a smell!
Figment is just awful as well.
I do like the three colors on the bottom left row of the chart but none of these speak to “fall” to my mind. And golden olive is almost literally execrable (I mean, baby poop color, yuck to that!).
SOTD is Safran Troublant because so many people mentioned it yesterday. I had to get it out for today. Now I also want to do the Volutes/Chergui comparison if only I can find my bottle of Chergui. I have both EDT and EDP, ended up buying the second because I really preferred it.
Not my favorite group of colors either!
This day started out chilly and rainy. But soon turned into a nice autumn day (17 degrees celcius/62 F) with some sunshine.
SotD is Bois d’Iris by The Different Company. One of my favourite iris scents, withe some flowers, spices and woods, perfect for colder weather.
Similar temperature here in Poland. Chilly morning and quite nice afternoon.
Sounds like a beautiful day!
Similar weather in Seattle today. Love TDC Bois d’Iris and have pulled mine out for the week (and for the season.)
I visited Seattle ages ago, when I was 18 yo. Made quite an impression, in a good way 🙂 Especially the surrounding areas. Washington is such a beautiful state!
If I ever needed to move to USA for whatever reasons I’d prefer that area (though I could see the northeast coast being to my liking as well).
Everything in south is probably too hot for me to handle, being used to the ‘fresh’ Dutch Oceanic climate. Hahaha. 🙂
Wearing the new V (the men’s) by Clive Christian. I have some samples of the “private collection” re-launch that my trusty Sak’s SA sent out to me unsolicited. Also wearing TF Neroli Portofino body oil, which goes really well with the perfume, which is a fougere. I smell like a sexy rich man.
Enjoy your sexy self!
LOL on the sexy rich man!
Ooohhh, sexy rich men…my favorite ha! 80
Greylocke…morning meeting with new admin so I needed my force field…it works really nice in the heat but will also be a great fall staple…thanks to PL67 for reminding me to wear it today.
Enjoy it! 🙂
I am 🙂
Good luck with the meeting!
Thank you! It is done 🙂
Enjoy !
Love have you call it your “force field”
It really is….it is the equivalent of hajusuuri’s spine strengthening no 19 🙂
🙂
I hope the meeting went fine.
It did and now I can proceed with the rest of my day 🙂
Yay!
Labdanum 18, which was my gateway drug to niche. It’s been awhile since I’ve worn this and today I’m reminded of how lovely and cozy it is. I think it could almost be called a skin scent. I bet the perfume oil is amazing.
it is!!! you smell great.
Thank you!
It has finally cooled down, and now I can use my decants that I’ve been saving for fall. SOTD is Cuir Beluga. I think I’m in love. Creamy and sweet, but I also sense saltiness. Could be just my imagination though because I don’t see the note mentioned.
Would make sense given the name. I’ve never noticed it but will look for it next time.
Yumm. I have to suss out the saltiness the next time I wear Cuir Beluga!
I’m thinking that since it’s so hot out I will put wearing Nuda on hold today and wear Sarrasins instead. Nuda might be a little too much today. I have no idea on why Nasomatto decided to make their offerings in extrait de parfum and have it in a spray bottle.
You could always decant? I do that with some stronger scents.
Warm and sunny here again today, but it feels like fall. Lovely. Sigh.
It’s a perfect time for one of the season-spanning fragrances I love, Iris Poudre.
Yes! I love IP too! Especially in the fall. 🙂
I gotta try that one as I’ve finally discovered a love of certain irises.
I’m wearing Mancera Aoud Vanille and listening to the “jazz standards” station on Amazon Prime.
My SOTD is L’Air du Desert Marocain over Ambler Flush oil. Very fall-like, even though the weather is more like summer.
Great combo! You smell fab.
ditto!
Ooh, that sounds nice. I actually love LADDM and its ilk in the heat.
No. 5 Eau Premiere for me today. Amusingly, I put it on then forgot about it until I started surfing here. I remembered spraying something, sniffed my arm and just couldn’t remember. I just knew it didn’t seem familiar. That’s cause it’s a new decant! Liking it.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I have to say, the reflexology (hands and feet) thing was sooooo indulgent. A little place in the Village. The Trip to Spain’s is entertaining, but it didn’t quite show food as prominently as the Italy one. The stream-of-consciousness rambling and impersonations were quite funny. I need to go to Spain.
Happy Birthday for yesterday. Hope you get to Spain soon!
You smell great. Glad you had a great bithday!
Today’s swap meet treasure is also fall-appropriate: the exquisite TDC Oriental Lounge, which smells like a French perfume boutique when it first opens in the morning. I gave myself three healthy sprays, which means I’m leaving a nearly visible trail behind me.
Sounds like no foot surgery, by the way! Unfortunately also sounds like I will never go running. I know my physical problems are nothing compared to many people, but this is quite a blow. I used to love running up until two years ago, when my foot problems began. Almost makes me regret having lived in France.
what happened in France to your foot?
No surgery is a good news. Not being able to run is a bummer since you enjoy running but you’ll have to find other activity that fits your body state now. I hope you’ll think of something to keep you happy. Meanwhile – enjoy your perfumes 🙂
I remember liking Oriental Lounge when I tried it several years ago but my sample is long gone and I didn’t revisit it since then. But I’m sure you smell great.
I guess that’s good news/bad news on the foot front. Perhaps you’ll be able to find another form of outdoor exercise that will replace running? Biking? I know it’s very different but maybe it offers that same feel of moving across the earth and experiencing your surroundings that way.
I love Oriental Lounge but it was so light on me, I’m surprised to hear your take on it. I had to really drench myself in it to get any projection at all. A real bummer for me as I found it quite delightful.
I had to give up running because of foot problems years ago. It was not a blow to me at all, but you have my sympathies since it is a blow to you! Glad you don’t need surgery though.
Not feeling well today, and taking the kids for dental check-ups. Fingers crossed for no cavities. Wearing a little bit of EA Green Tea lotion.
Hope you feel better soon and no cavities!
Feel better soon Lillyjo!
crossing fingers
I hope you feel better soon 🙂 it’s doubly hard when you can’t just crawl in bed. My stomach was in knots this week – just starting to feel better today. Hang in there!
Thanks everyone! We ended up with one cavity for the girl, and a potential molar problem for the boy. Ugh…. Adding that now to the start saving list.
Aw, bummer ???? And I also hope you feel better.
Hope you feel better!
Wednesday.
1) Am in Noir pour Femme body cream- perfect for a chilly early morning (45F!) The scent mutes down to a spicy, clovy- jasminy- vanilla, so it’s surprisingly work safe to wear. DO NOT LAYER for day- it’s too much.
2) Chilly rain, all coming down, all seemingly at once- with tornado warnings, even! I am amazed that there has been no flash flooding- the earth has been so thirsty that for now the water is sinking in.
I tried a sample of Emporio Armani “Stronger With You” last night and it seemed kind of toothpaste-like, but I woke up this morning and thought, “Yum, what is that lovely scent?” The drydown was spicy, lovely. I’m going to have to try it during the day.
Interesting! I figured I would skip those but maybe I should give them a try.
In the mood for a sweet, light leather today, Ombre Indigo is working perfectly to scratch that itch. Retested the new Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours yesterday at Holt Renfrew. It smells of rose with a bit of patchouli on the opening, then in the late drydown you can smell the original BV leather scent. It’s a winner for me.
I like the Légère version of the original BV. Understated elegance.
This sounds good. If you decide to split it, I would like to be first in line.
If I close my eyes, I can pretend I’m on vacation at the beach since I’m wearing Lolita Lempicka Elle l’aime.
🙂
I’m wearing MDCI Promesse de l”Aube this morning. I like it in spring and fall, it smells too sweet in summer and not substantial enough in winter. It’s perfect today.
Lovely, lovely… You smell good.
My first MDCI, such a beauty!
I succumbed to the cheapness and got the Pacifica Himalayan Patchouli Berry rollerball. I can’t for the life of me understand why I like this — sweet, sweet! clean patch and clean musk. I have a vision of some borderline creepy/cute guy (Schmidt on New Girl maybe?) leaning in and saying “shhhh, don’t question, just enjoy…..”
????
Don’t question it just enjoy it ’cause it is dirt cheap! and if it makes you feel any better I tried it at Ulta a few months ago and liked it too.
So glad I’m not the only one! 🙂
Haha! Good advice. I have a few where I’ve asked myself the same question.
I liked it too, but when I tested it, I kept having the nagging feeling that it was reminding me of something. Finally it hit me that it’s basically stripped-down Angel.
*forehead slap* yessss!!! That’s exactly what it is! Which is fine with me as I like Angel on others but it doesn’t work on my skin (goes too B.O.)
Ah! I’m up for trying it out, then!
I went big today with vinty Samsara. Only two sprays under the shirt. I can still smell it and I applied at 7 AM. The sandalwood is buttery and amazing. Kind of makes me sad that the real thing is no longer available. Anyway, cold and rainy here again so I’m not gassing anyone out.
Sometimes I am sad about sandalwood in general — that there just is no buttery goodness like that left in the world!
There are way too many catastrophes at once right now. I am bringing out the bold, classic perfumes, like Daphne Buguey’s earlier Coty L’Origan recreation and vintage Hermes Equipage. I may resort to Amouage Gold after gym and errands.
It’s awful. Those poor people. I hope your scent helps you through.
It’s just utterly astoundingly horrific. And it’s going to take all those communities years and years to rebuild and recover. It’s mind-bogglingly tragic.
And of course, more donations.
Yes, it’s mind boggling. I’m out of words.
There are so many catastrophes that I cannot process them all.
Wearing La Traversée du Bosphore, which I love any time of year. I’ve just done a very succesfull swap this time through NST with a fellow Dutch perfumista!
Oh, how nice! Hopefully it’ll lead to more swaps down the road.
My husband had to have an unscheduled operation yesterday as the traction isn’t preventing his femur from going back through his broken pelvis. The proper reconscructive surgery is scheduled for tomorrow…it’s a long week! Quite draining. I would like a ‘peace of mind’ perfume but my mind has drawn a blank… The equivalent of a deep sleep on a warm summer’s night, under the stars on a hillside of sweet clover and tussock, surrounded by benign creatures, with a stream gurgling over rocks nearby. On a different note, the magnolias are all in full bloom and wonderful. Have a great day everyone! Maybe a sandalwood scent would do the trick?
My mind went to sandalwood as I read your post, Kanuka. I hope things start to improve for both of you. I’m thinking of you.
All will be well
I am really wishing rest and health for you and your family. It might sound dumb, but I am glad it will be summer for you soon. Tough times and winter are just to much to handle IMO. I wish I had a scent recommendation for you.
Doesn’t sound dumb at all. Luckily we live on a hill with a view across the valley to green paddocks and bush-clad slopes. It’s a very restful outlook.
I think Sables or Myrrh Ardente would do that for me – both Goutals, oddly enough.
Both good. Waterdragon and Gaynor gave me samples of those.
I’m sorry to hear that not everything is going quite as planned, but I’m sure it will all be well in the end.
Oddly enough when I want to be comforted I tend to go for big hitters like Aromatics Elixir or Rien, both help to keep me focused and relaxed. Heure Exquise is great for comfort as well.
That just sounds utterly excruciating: physically, mentally, emotionally and all the rest. I hope he mends quickly and thoroughly. I forbade my husband from commuting by bicycle to work for fear of just such an accident (or one even worse.) The fact that he was riding to a dangerous worksite where major (and sometimes fatal) injuries occur all too frequently added up to making me a nervous wreck from the time he left until the time he returned. At any rate, hang in there, both of you.
Yikes! Here’s hoping he heals well and fast!
Kanuka, that sounds a bit like Pohadka to me. Personally, I tend to go for La Via del Profumo Mecca Balsam when I need deep comfort.
I was so sorry to hear about your husband’s accident and what you are going through. I promise to stop whining about my arthritis and eventual prospect of hip replacement. (That’s a little bargaining with Providence on your behalf, in lieu of being nearby and able to do something useful.)
Yes, Pohadka would be perfect. Why didn’t I think of that? I promise to stop whining about my sore joints too…not!!! I like that Australian woman who talks about female body image who says something like, ‘your body is a vehicle, not an object’.
So sorry to hear about this setback.
Sandalwood sounds like a good option, maybe with some rose or Jasmine. Glad you have Spring on the way!
Ow, ow, ow! I’m so sorry. Thinking good thoughts for you and husband, hope you’ll keep us posted as your time and energy allows.
Tam Dao!
And stay strong — we are all thinking of you.
Sables for me today. Wore it also over the weekend. It seems perfect for the warm New Mexico days right now. So cozy…
I do not care for that palette as much as the one on Monday.
The weather is unsettled, but I’m not. The time for The Decision is upon me, and I am sure of my path. To celebrate certainty, I’m wearing Cristalle and my red boots. I am thus assertive at both ends. Heavens, but I love this perfume! Crisp, enlivening, sure of its welcome: maybe not madly complex, but it doesn’t have to be. I have a day of intense concentration ahead of me (that proofreading) and Cristalle is the perfect accompaniment.
I feel a bit silly telling you all this, because though we interact as friends here, we are in the largest part strangers to one another. However, since I mentioned that I had a decision to make, it behoves me to clarify, I think. It’s this: last week, my new Head of School asked me not to retire. I nearly fell off my chair in surprise, and my first reaction was to say no. However, I listened to her argument, thought about it, realised that though I am looking forward to Ieaving Auckland and living to a different rhythm, the timing of my departure wasn’t a good fit with a couple of things in my life. First of all, the dear man isn’t retiring yet, so I would be backwards and forwards to Whanganui without him. Second, I have three unfinished doctoral supervisions, and in my arrangement with university, I undertook to see them through. The way these three students are (not) working, I could see the whole of the first half of next year being consumed by their needs–I’m meant to be on sabbatical then. There were other things too: long story short, I said yes. Now I have to deal with the embarrassment of announcing my change of plans, but I’ll live through that. So, there it is. I’m settled in my mind, but surprised in my heart, if that makes sense. Now I have to go out and make the new situation work. I could do with a perfume called, “Who woulda thought?”
Be well, all.
Good for you! I really admire that you made a decision knowing it was right for you. I think I’ve based all my decisions on pleasing other people, and well, I think you have so much courage. I wish you all the luck! Loving the red boots paired with Cristalle!
Congratulations on your renewed job! Don’t feel embarrassed about having a wonderful flexible outlook on life. It’s great news for me as I will get another chance to meet up in perfume land. Blue sky ahead.
Nearest I can think of is 4160 Tuesdays “Who Knew?”. “Exotic, intoxicating deep dark rose and green tea with the scent of smoky lapsang souchong”. Hope the decision works out – maybe you can squirm out of some of the more annoying events like long meetings planning curricula for future years when you won’t be there. :^)
I can’t even imagine what part about being needed/wanted (in good relationships, I mean, be that personal or professional ones) and going along with that might be embarrassing.
For co-workers: if you had a retirement party already, tell everybody that you loved it so much that you’ve decided to work for another year (or whatever your arrangement is) and repeat the experience again. If you didn’t have it yet, tell that you thought about it and realized that the celebration of your renewed job offer/position might be even bigger fun since it won’t involve feeling sad because of partying with people you like. For relatives – who cares? It’s your decision, you made it, you’ve changed your mind. Something like that 🙂
Congratulations on your decision! As long as you don’t sacrifice health and happiness, it sounds like staying on has benefits all around.
A decision well made is one of life’s great feelings. Yours sounds like a win-win, too.
I think there are a good number of perfumes like that. Perhaps Robin will consider a Friday Community Project on the theme “Who woulda thought?”
(If we haven’t already done something similar.)
There is a fruity floral that I like — which is the last genre that I would expect to like — but I can’t quite recall…
I was also surprised the other day by how good MPG Racine was smelling on me. In the past I’ve always thought it too masculine, and it is rather masculine, but it was smelling perfect on me that day.
We kind of have, but will see exactly what it was…
Thanks!
In this context, I’m thinking of a combination of notes that shouldn’t work but does.
Or brands or genres that never work for me, but this perfume does. It does sound familiar.
It could also be perfumes we’ve changed out minds about; pretty sure we’ve done that.
Congratulations on your decision! I find making the decision is the hardest for me (hello Libra). But once Ive made my mind up to follow whatever my inuition is saying, Im good.
Congratulations on your decision, waterdragon!
I’m on a mini-sabbatical from work (a whole week!), and wafting Dior Homme, one of my favorites for fall.
Nice, enjoy!!
SOTD is L’Artisan Parfumeur “Dzongkha”.
Top: peony, cardamom and litchi;
Mid: spices, white tea, vetiver, incense and cedar;
Base: leather, iris and papyrus.
Nice stuff and right for a cool Autumn day; I’ll re-try this one another time/ I feel like I’m coming down with a cold, which is very unwelcome as we’re in the middle of a programme crisis where I’m supposed to be re-calculating the forecast cost. But I’m going to have to go to bed early and hope I sleep it off.
Yesterday got home way too late to comment. SOTD was Parfumerie Generale “Louanges Profanes”.
Notes were lily, benzoin, hawthorn, incense, neroli and woody notes. This may sound strange (but it’s not the first time this has happened): I think it’s a lovely smell, but it’s just not a great perfume, not on my skin anyway.
Rest well. Hope you feel better in the morning.
Thanks lillyjo! I rarely have colds nowadays so fingers crossed it’s short and sweet. ;^)
Take good care of yourself, you’ll be in tip-top shape again soon.
The distance between a lovely smell and a great perfume is an interesting place to ponder.
Louanges Profanes does sound nice – maybe better as a candle or something? Hope the cold leaves you alone
I love Dzonghka! Such an intriguing scent! I hope the cold goes away.
Yikes to getting a cold. Keep gargling with warm salt water.
Now that you mention it, I think a number of PGs are like that.
I was really hot on that “lemon curry” color in the spring, could not stop thinking about it and trying to find clothes in that color wherever I went but, it turned out it’s not an easy color to wear. Sad.
Gave myself a few good sprays of Gourmand Coquin this morning and it’s still going strong.
Do you read Akkinny’s (Ykkinna) blog ‘Life in a Cold Climate’ as she recently did a colour blocking post with that yellow and green.
She hasn’t been on here in awhile..miss her
Me too but it sounds like shes really busy with work.
So many colors have broken my heart. Maybe you can wear it as an accent to a color that does work for you?
SotM = FM Dries van Noten
Lots of patchouli this time, last sampling was very woody. It’s as if I’m looking out the window in a different room but in the same house.
Stopped in Ulta this morning, Chanel Gabrielle was there. Life’s easy when something new is a big ol’ nope! I scrubbed and grabbed the the tester of Gucci Bloom for an olfactory reset.
Ate a delicious pink lady apple with my lunch today. Now it feels like autumn has arrived.
I pulled DvN out this week and will wear it soon. I’ve only tried it a couple of times so don’t have a solid memory of it.
Pink Lady apples are my favorite! We went to the farmers market last weekend and it seemed too late in the year to be eating peaches and nectarines (and berries! Why are there berries this time of year?) but too early for pears. Apples it was, but alas the best to be found were honeycrisps (which I do like very much but there’s usually an Apple Guy who sells all kinds of interesting varieties who was conspicuously absent last Sunday. Hmph.) Also bought an apple pie 🙂
Yes to pie! My family likes apple pie so well that some of us opt for that instead of a birthday cake.
I’m not really liking this palette as much. I feel like a couple pairs of colors are too close to each other. Like Toast and Copper Tan don’t both need to be there, and same for Lemon Curry and Golden Olive. I don’t necessary love the color, but I’d be inclined to keep Lemon Curry simply because the name reminds me of Monty Python. 😀

Oh yeah, and I’m wearing Une Rose de Kandahar. I happened to find a sample I had forgotten about while I was looking for something else.
Thanks for that Python link, it reminded my of their great sketch Penguin on the Telly.
LOL I hadn’t seen that one in a long time so I looked it up to refresh my memory.
You smell divine 🙂
Another choice from random bag of samples: vintage Jicky parfum. I have sampled Jicky before but never the parfum. Not a huge fan of lavender.
For a while I didn’t realize that what I liked in Jicky so much was lavender 🙂 It’s great that we’re all so different!
Began the day in Huitieme Art Poudre de Riz, a favorite for late summer/early fall and early summer/late spring. Thinking it was all but gone, I slathered myself in Love, Chloe. All those dabs brought Poudre de Riz back to life, so I’m happily enjoying both.
The same thing happened last time I wore Poudre de Riz, which I followed with Chanel Beige. That was also a delicious combo. Interestingly, PdR shares notes with both Beige and Love, Chloe (which might be why the layering works so well) but I’m not sure Beige and Love, Chloe share much with one another. But who knows, maybe they’d smell great together, too.
Sounds like a harmonious day!
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
Exhaust fumes pleather, vanilla and tea never smelled this good!
In yesterday’s episode of “Where did that come from?”, I wondered how a Cheerio landed on the floor of a bathroom stall at work. Today, there was something more disturbing — there was no one inside, but yet, the odor of La Vie Est Belle lingered. I wish I saw who was there before me but that does not guarantee that it was her because, well, LVEB stays on and on, long past the departure of its wearer.
Ugly Jeans Countdown – No. 3.
Would you pay $162 (65% off from the original $465 price tag) to wear this? (I didn’t think so.)

With Cheerio – it’s easy! Most likely, somebody’s kid was eating those dry (with fingers, not a spoon) while the mother was holding him/her. One of the pieces got inside the t-short/blouse or into hair, came with the woman to work – and there finally got liberated in the restroom, possibly without her realizing it 🙂
As to jeans… I wouldn’t wear them even if they paid me.
It’s soon will be time to wear Bvlgary Black here as well. Yay!
Love your ugly jeans countdown!
This one is really a mess, not only those patches and holes, but also the fit. Totally weird.
BBlack does not work on my skin. I think it smells good on others though. 🙂 great perfume!
If you have a bottle or a decant of it, hold on to it and re-try in a year or two: you might change your mind.
Ha!
I had a small bottle for more than a year…but could not warm up to it. Unfortunately my skin amps up the vanilla, not in a good way. The great smoky tea / tar / leather part is gone in 60 seconds. 🙁
So I offered it in last swapmeet.
We are having beautiful “Indian summer” weather: temperatures of high 80s during the day, cool nights down in the 60s. Clear blue skies and less humidity. Glorious! I started the day with Blasted Bloom, a workday favorite, then got home and found my new Tokyo Bloom had been delivered, so happily spritzed that on. Really enjoying it, as I gravitate to green scents. The opening is very green, and unique.
I wore Parfum Sacre for cozy comfort. The temperature dropped about 20 degrees over the weekend so I’m still adjusting to the sudden onset of fall and rain. My sinuses aren’t my friends right now.
Oh, I feel your pain. 🙁
