By Kilian Woman in Gold & Gold Knight ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 20 September 2017 21 Comments

By Kilian Woman in Gold and Gold Knight

French niche line By Kilian has launched From Dusk Till Dawn, a new duo of fragrances celebrating the brand's 10th anniversary. Woman in Gold and Gold Knight were inspired by artist Gustav Klimt and fin de siècle Vienna.

Woman in Gold ~ A gourmand oriental developed by perfumer Calice Becker. "A perfume as complex and dazzling as the woman who wears it. A magnificent collector's edition coffret, beautifully embellished in homage to Klimt's unique signature style and masterful use of gold leaf, to house Woman in Gold. [...]  The notes conjure, in scent, the delicate gold leafing and play between light and shadow, for which the painting is celebrated. The petal-y rose heart depicts all of the facets of the rose. Finally, vanilla absolute's unctuosity appears generously in the drydown, adorned by an exclusive patchouli molecule, the Akigalawood." Additional notes include bergamot, mandarin, geranium and tonka bean.

Gold Knight ~ A woody oriental developed by perfumer Pascal Gaurin. "Elegant, daring, seductive, bold. A magnificent collector's edition coffret, beautifully embellished in homage to Klimt's unique signature style and masterful use of gold leaf, to house Gold Knight. [...] Inspired by the dashing, golden-armored chevalier in Klimt's 1902 Beethoven Frieze, Gold Knight contrasts the addictive dark sensuousness of patchouli with the effervescent brightness of bergamot, and warm golden shimmer of vanilla and anise." Additional notes include cinnamon and honey.

By Kilian Woman in Gold and Gold Knight are $295 each for 50 ml Eau de Parfum, or $780 for the 250 ml crystal carafe.

I guess. I am not a huge fan of paying for extraneous packaging. *signed, the grinch*

        Me neither.
I do care however for a nice looking bottle.
But one can admire a case that never will be mine, right? 😉

Exactly — why he could not apply those design skills to the actual bottle is what I don’t get.

Yes, to me it’s the best so far.

Next time around, I would appreciate a lifestyle that requires a minaudiere, please.

    “Unctuosity…” I guess it’s a word, but … *rolls eyes*

I guess they thought it sounded better than “a lot of vanilla” 😉

“$780 for the 250 ml crystal carafe”

    My mortgage is $962.

F*** outta here with that nonsense.

Sorry, but I get all grumpy when brands ‘hijack’/or ‘get inspired by’ other people’s great artistic work to sell their own stuff.

Often the ‘interpretation’ insults the original (art) work. Especially when done in an obvious “we chose it for the gold, so we can ask gigantic amounts of money for it”-way . 😉

Hmm, I need to smell first and then judge of course… 😀

There are great examples of people paying hommage to other art works in a great way. I just doubt Kilian is able to do that (I mean, look at their marketing hahaha, its fun and all, but not exactly on level with Klimt).

It’s possible Kilian saw the Klimt portrait Ronald S. Lauder paid a cool 135M for back in 2006. [Lauder owns the By Kilian brand now, no?]

Quite possible. Thanks for that insight.
I lost track of all the brands Lauder has been buying 😉
Aww man, 135 M, that is an enormous amount of money.

It was a record-breaking price at the time. After Ronald Lauder bought the painting, he placed it on display at the Neue Gallerie, which he founded in New York City. I like to consider myself a patron of the arts whenever I buy Estee Lauder or associated brands. 🙂

      Ha, yes isn’t it.

Had my first experience of trying a couple of BK’s in store a couple of weeks ago. I’d sum it up as they all seemed awfully sweet (sugary), but had lovely boxes. So, no change here then..

Oh dear. We have a silk scarf of The Kiss over our bed, I love rose, my husband loves patchouli…may not be able to resist sampling.
