The swapmeet is open for business! Meantime, it's Monday and it's Cheeseburger Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Ineke Idyllwild.
Reminder: on 9/22 wear one of your "top 10 of fall" fragrances (unless it's spring where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of spring" scents).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown above is Pantone's Color Palette for New York for Fall 2017. “Bookended by a dynamic Grenadine red and a tawny Autumn Maple, the color palette for Fall 2017 leans more to warmth, “ says Eiseman. “While comforting, enveloping colors and ease are crucial to the seasonal feeling, standout shades include a pale pink Ballet Slipper, a refreshing Golden Lime, and a bright Marina blue. These hues add a striking touch when paired with the classic autumnal shades of Navy Peony, Neutral Gray, Butterrum and Tawny Port.”
Thanks to a generous NSTer I am in Heure Exquise from a small decant that I am savoring…
Tea is Sweet Shanghai, sweet and fruity to counteract this dreary gray day..
Dreary here too! I am having a cup of English Breakfast but seriously considering a little trip to Starbucks.
Enjoy your trip the *$
You smell lovely! Thought if you when I was applying my lippie today. Forgot to recommend a Lipstick Queen I really like: from the All that Jazz collection in Paint the Town. It’s a really pretty sheerish berry/red with some shimmer.
Enabler! HA!
Looked it up, right up my alley for color. Beautiful
It is a nice color. I jave the purple one too and sometimes layer them.
Today I’m wearing Escentric 2. I’ve also fallen in love with the scent of my new hair product (Killer Curls by Kevin Murphy). It smells like Dzing! and Dries van Noten had a baby. The smell doesn’t linger too long, but it’s a great scent first thing in the morning.
Have a great day everyone!
Oh, Dzing! and DvN really ought to have a baby!
I wouldn’t object to being an honorary great aunt to that baby.
🙂
Yum. I think I will wear Dzing on this cool rainy day. Thx!
My SOTD is Dzing!
SOTD is Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Cipresso di Toscana for “top 10 of fall” community project. It’s more of a late summer/very early autumn fragrance, and I think it matches that Marina color in the fall palette. To me, Cipresso di Toscana smells like a holiday at the seaside in the late summer/early autumn – sea air, warm days but cooler nights, cypress and pine trees… Relaxing, carefree but slightly melancholy.
Nice! Maybe my Idyllwild is *almost* “shaded spruce”.
A gray, rainy, humid day. Since I will be working outside in a while and for the rest of the day, I am wearing Guerlain AA Herba Fresca. To be on theme I had a tiny spritz of SL Feminite du Bois. One of my fall favorites.
I was tempted to play hooky from work today, but I made it in.
I’m wearing Le Labo Vanille 44, which is a fall favorite of mine, and this might be the year that I finally buy the smallest (but still obscenely expensive) 15 ml bottle…
Happy Monday!
You smell great! I discovered Vanille 44 last fall and have a small decant. Those prices are ridiculous!
You know, after wearing it all day I think a small decant might be enough for me. It’s lovely but sort of wore me out as the day went on!
It’s a little after 9 and I am already annoyed. My Amazon Prime membership ends today and I have cancelled my Prime because I just paid my bills and only have $40 left in my bank account until Thursday but I have $55 on my Amazon account. I have used the give the gift of Prime to send to myself to use. I’m not understanding why I can’t add the gift of Prime to my Amazon right now so I can use my gift card balance to get 3 more months. I wonder if I have to wait until tomorrow to do that. Right now I am wearing Lolita Lempicka and will change over to something else after my shower.
That’s so confusing. (I try to get good use out of my Prime, and I think it’s awesome, but I admit I have no idea why you wouldn’t be able to do what you want to do with the billing.) Your Lolita smells nice.
I have always found that the billing has always sucked for Prime. I mean, come on, it shouldn’t matter if you pay by credit card or gift card, Amazon still gets your money either way. I use it to watch movies, listen to music and buy tons on Amazon. I think I might have found a way but it’s gonna have to wait until after I get home from work.
On my way to the first day of my new job. Was already nervous then a cold caught up to me over the weekend to make it that much more special. If there ever was a day for No. 19, this is it!
Good luck on new job
Thanks shellyw!
Good luck with the new job! You smell fabulous.
Thanks, if I can’t feel fabulous, at least I can smell fab 😉
Very good luck to you Gi, and get better!
Thanks Robin!
Best of luck! Drink lots of fluids!
Good luck and feel better soon. You smell fantastic!
Good luck! I hope it ends up being a great day!
Have a great first day!! Hope the cold disappears.
Best of luck! Hope it goes well despite the poorly-timed cold. And hope you feel better pronto!
Ugh, yuck, colds! I hate THEM. Get better, and have lots of mint tea!
Here’s to a quick turnaround and great first week at the new job! Congrats (on the latter, not the former 😉 )
Hang in there! I came down with the flu the first day of my first real job. Hope you get better quickly and the job goes well!
Good luck on the job and hope you feel better soon! You smell super great!
First day jitters…aarrggh. Good luck.
Best of luck! You smell wonderful!
Good luck on your first day! Hope that cold moves out ASAP!
Thank you all for your well-wishes! I made it through day one, so onward and upward from here 🙂
Hope you are feeling better quickly. So glad you made it through day one! Congrats on the new job. I have been wishing for one of those myself, so it’s a good feeling to know there are jobs to be had. 🙂
Hope it was a fantastic first day!
Wearing DK Black Cashmere, definitely a fall favorite and it’s nice to have the weather match it again!
You smell super great!
Trying to be positive on Monday, wearing Memo Italian Leather. Me loves it!
Got a call from police dept today, I was a wittness of a traffic accident some time ago and now they want to question me. I guess I’d call it a new experience in life.
Hope your memory is good. My car was hit when the mechanic was testing it after repairs a few weeks ago. Police report says it was the guy turning fault. He is fighting it so the mechanic gave me a loaner car. Bad side is that we are on week 3 1/2 of waiting for it to be resolved so my car can be repaired. It is just the two driver’s words against each other and the police report (which the feels he can ignore). I would have LOVED for there to have been a witness!
Ugh, what a mess. Hope it gets resolved soon.
Oh you well wonderful. That is one of my absolute favourites!
*smell*, not well wonderful…
Good luck!
Important role! I’ve relied on witnesses in the past for various accidents.
Gray, humid and cold for this time of year, wearing Vie de Château for some comfort.
One of many I wish I’d bought when it was still around and came in little bottles!
It may be the cusp of fall but it’s still summery warm in eastern Canada (thirtyish for the next few days) so I’m in a sample of Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine — I don’t love it but it’s nice enough, and seasonal. Should have worn California Clementine, which is more to my liking. Maybe I’ll spritz some on top.
Boy, Pantone is really playing the spread this year. It’s the colour-merchandising version of launching ten scents at once.
Oh, but even more — those are the New York colors, and I will post the London colors (!) on Wednesday. So 20 colors for fall.
wow!
Mmm, I like both of them, but wish they lasted longer than a few minutes on me.
Yay, a color palette! That one’s nice, but I’d yank the cool-toned pale pink right out of there, or switch it for an equally pale pink with warmer tones.
It’s supposed to get up to 80F this afternoon, golden and sunny. I have to mow the grass once the dew has evaporated off. Meanwhile, I’m in Rose d’Ete for its last use this year, probably.
Plus, there’s no yellow! A fall palette needs a yellow.
I like the palette a lot as well, but wholeheartedly agree on the pink!
Wearing great lashings of Andy Tauer’s Rose Delight Body Oil.
There is a spicy underlying note that makes this perfect for Autumn.
I spent the weekend “spring cleaning”, so it is almost a relief to go back to work.
Yum, I have a bottle of this that I need to use more! It is great this time of year.
The Amber Flush is a wonderful scent too
Reminding me to use that oil!
You smell tasty 🙂
You smell lovely, lovely, lovely! It’s really softening and having that beautiful subtle spicy rose scent is just perfect.
Perfect. That oil has a nice warmth to it.
Will be doing some Equinox cleaning myself today. To wit: swapping summer closet for fall/winter and lots of laundry.
Me too! But it’s nice to have a clean house today – not that it will last long with two dogs dragging in dirt and leaves every day. Sigh.
Cazaubon – I have 3 large, silly dogs.
I found footprints in the tub yesterday – How do these things happen 🙂
Tee hee! 😀
Signed up for Sniffapalooza last night so looking forward to going for the first time.
Sampling Tears of Eros which has an interesting furry effect that I also noticed in Indigo (another scent with hyacinth)
I can’t believe you’ve never gone! Excited for you!
It’s Motrin Monday for me. Beautiful blindingly sunny day that’s warmer that I would really like.
Combating this with three hefty sprays of PdE Corsica Furiosa. My bottle is 1/4 GONE!! That means I have used 25ml (I’m a snappy mathametician!) already ???? I’m going through it like WATER! Already feeling a tad bit anxious about the eventual separation.
Happy Monday! May you all experience fast and furious perfume love like I have with CF. We’re together. Forever. ✌????
I really love your passion for Corsica Furiosa. It is a wonderful perfume. In my fb shopping list. It will become mine sooner or later…
I am sure that all the perfume mathematical equations we do will help keep our brains sharp. I haven’t tried Corsica Furiosa but I wonder if it has a similar style to some of the Aesop perfumes, like Tacit and the old (gone) Mystra which tend towards the natural landscape/ outdoors / aromatic.
I’m celebrating the last of summer with Chanel N.19.
You smell wonderful. Enjoy!
You are the second divine-smelling NSTer in No. 19 today. How is the lasting power on you? I spritzed the tester during two separate airport waits last week (same day, just a couple of hours apart), and was stunned by how quickly all traces of the scent vanished from my skin — seriously, in a way that makes 28 La Pausa seem like a champion of staying power. But Robin’s review here on NST lauds its tenacity. Could I possibly be anosmic after fifteen seconds? (I hope it’s okay to ask this here and not wait for weekend Open Thread.)
Replying to self to edit: ANGELA’S review of No.19. My apologies. I should have checked the citation BEFORE commenting. Bad skalolazka!
Not the OP, but I have to really drench myself in 19 edt to get much projection, and even then it goes into skin-scent territory pretty quickly. I’ve found that to be the case both with current and vintage versions.
I have a decant that is a rollerball, so I can’t speak to its staying power via spraying. It didn’t last long, and there wasn’t any real projection. But, I love it for the fleeting moments I can smell it.
You smell super!
SotD OJ Woman,
Perfect fall scent imo!
Every time someone mentions OJ woman I think Oh yeah!- I need to try that!
It sounds lovely!
Off to look at a sample order.
Happy day!
It gets a lot of mentions here lately, right?
It is really worth checking out. Even if it is not up your alley, it is an interesting scent 🙂
Luckyscent sells a sample pack as well as the whole line now. ( in case you didn’t already know).
One of my favorites and at the top of my FB list! You smell fabulous!
Thank you!
Yes worth a FB if it works for you,
quite a versatile scent and I can wear it fall-winter-spring here in the wet and cold low lands, I have no regrets buying this one 😉
Yes, perfect, you smell great!
For once I think I am not going to swap anything. Being happy with what I have? Weird.
I’m wearing Chamade. (In my head, spring scents often work in fall and winter scents often work in summer. Just me?)
I really enjoy a sunshiny scent in the winter.
Sometimes that works, especially if you’re longing for something opposite the weather. Or, in the case of spring/fall, scents suitable for similar temperatures can work. (case in point, Penhaligon’s Violetta is a spring scent in my mind, but it often works well in fall.)
But sometimes it just doesn’t work and the sensory disconnect is too much. I once spent a November writing about a young woman who wore Chamade, and every time I got up from the desk I got a big oh-yeah-it’s-gray-outside shock. I didn’t enjoy that.
Yes, transitional scents! They work for “unlocking” times in Vonnegut’s terminology.
I am completely happy with what I have, and I do not think that is weird at all!
Like you I did not post anything for swapping. I have been too busy lately. However, I was able to do some small swapping during the weekend after reading the posts.
I normally wear the same scents for spring-summer and fall-winter. However, I can wear summer scents in Winter if I really need to cheer up!
I would love to participate, but the vast majority are CONUS only ( postal rates are outrageous) , so I’ll just keep swapping one on one as they come up.
I always feel a little bad about not including Canada in my swaps but the one time I shipped there it cost me $11 to ship a 3ml decant and it took about 3 or 4 weeks to finally get delivered. I did see a number of Canadians post swap lists this time, though.
I always end up spending about the or more when I ship within the US!! Not sure why I end up spending so much, when I often get samples/decants from others and the postage is $2-3????
You probably follow the law. It’s way more expensive when you do. I started using USPS kiosks (no face-to-face with a human, ahem) and *not* choosing ground, which is way cheaper, then paypal post, which is cheaper still.
What kpaint said. I use the kiosk and say “no” to the hazmat question.
Well, I’m living under a rock. I have never, ever seen a USPS Kiosk! My eyes are now peeled????
It’s the self service computer thingy in the PO.
So you (and others) know, It’s not just shipping costs but that it’s not possible to send perfumes outside of the US lawfully. I didn’t realize that until I’d already committed to a swap and was really uncomfortable doing it.
Being happy with what you have is a great place to be. Not weird!
In my mind, fall and spring are not interchangeable, but I wore a lot of perfumes this summer that I’d previously thought of as strictly winter. I was pleasantly and very surprised to find gourmands and the like to be equally delicious and enjoyable in summer and wore them on a very regular basis. Who’d a thunk it?
Well, it’s a little weird for me. 🙂 I usually have one or two things I don’t want anymore, but recently, I’ve sort of started to miss some of the things I swapped away in the past…
I love gourmands and orientals in summer. Incense and amber really bloom in the heat! You just have to wear a lot less.
Went back to sleep after sending the kids to school today. Big mistake, since I had nightmares. Ugh…. Now have to get ready for work. I can still smell the remnants of Shalimar from yesterday. Happy Monday everyone!
So sorry about your nightmares. Hope the rest of the day is better!
Thanks! The sun is shining here, so it’s already better:)
You smell fabulous in Shalimar!
Thanks! You are the reason I am revisiting it:)
Yay!!!
I feel like my dreams are always worse when I take a nap (and as a mom of twins, napping is required!), but my theory is that it is because you often wake up while still dreaming so you are just more likely to remember them, good or not. I had this problem yesterday when I went back to bed after getting up with my girls.
Exactly! I realized this too. It is actually why I try very hard to not take naps.
When I worked second shift, I would often crawl back in bed for a couple of hours after the kiddos were off to school and it is always when I would have my most vivid dreams. Hope the rest of your day got better!
So far the rest of the day has been uneventful, which is the best kind of day!
Bleah about the nightmares.
Displeased it is Monday.
Pleased a three hour block of meetings scheduled for 8 am this morning was moved.
Displeased the meetings weren’t cancelled all together.
Pleased to be sampling Bijou
Romantique today compliments of a generous NSTer. Warm, sweet vanilla powdery goodness.
Big Seri Songket Earl Grey with Tangerine tea today.
Boh is the brand not big. I am no tea expert but this one is quite good.
I’m also pleased meetings got rescheduled. I’m a big fan of not having meetings on Mondays.
Stole spritzes from younger family member’s travel spray of Lime, Basil and Mandarin…five hours later and it is still going strong.
Love that one. You smell good.
Lovely!
SOTD: Diptyque Vetyverio edp on the left and edt on the right. Both very nice vetivers, I like the citrusy edt a little better. But “like” is the operative word.
A friend of mine has made it her signature scent. I like it a lot, though I prefer a bolder vetiver variant for myself.
Wow, that’s an early 90s color palette right there. Brought me back to the Tweeds catalog I loved in high school.
More construction at my house today, but there’s a chance they’ll be all done by Friday. Fingers crossed. Wearing Eau de Magnolia again because I enjoyed it so much last Friday.
The palette reminded me of My So-Called Life, myself!
My So-Called Life!!! That takes me back. Jared Leto *sigh”. When that show was a thing, I had a hair cut and color very similar to Claire Dane’s character and got comments all.the.time that I looked like her. I thought the facial similarities were dubious — it was really just the hair, and maybe my teenage brooding attitude haha!
Oh man I loved Tweeds. I had a pair of dark mustard trousers and a dark turquoise silk shirt from there that I still dream about. They were actually so well made they lasted longer than my skinny youth did! I hope someone out there is wearing them right now. Then also a dark blue silk skirt that I wore so much it tore – during a conference!
I had a bright orange cotton jacket that I wore to literal pieces! And a 40s style rayon dress with a daisy print that my mother hated – I still remember her irritation when I wore it to a cousin’s wedding.
My SOTD is Beige – pretty and good for very warm fall weather and a dentist appointment.
I often wear Beige to the dentist. LOL. Not sure why – perhaps because it’s guaranteed to be inoffensive?
I was angling for a scent compliment, but none was forthcoming. I had a new dentist today, a teeny little French Canadienne, so perhaps she felt she didn’t know me well enough yet. Maybe I’m making excuses.
You smelled beautiful! So there’s your compliment 😀
Huh – my nail polish shade this week is called Ballet Slippers.
It’s raining wildly here (finally!) and SOTD is Equistrius. Still not getting much chocolate from it (in my case a good thing). Happy Monday all!
You smell great! ????????
Equistrius for a rainy day seems perfect
Ah I get too much chocolate from it. Wish it wore on me like on you!
Hey Twin. I don’t much chocolate either. It’s all Iris on me.
Hey! I get lots of iris, but also lots of slightly sweet leather. Love both of those notes.
Wearing Dzing! like some others – it’s cool and rain this morning but supposed to get much warmer later today and Dzing! deals nicely with that change.
Good luck with your Mondays, everyone!
Wearing Cuir de Lancome, its gorgeous and prepares me for autumn!
That’s on my list for this week 🙂 You smell lovely.
Timing is perfect as my husband announced this weekend that tonight would be Shake Shack burgers for dinner. 🙂
Not terribly excited about the Pantone colors. Marina is probably my favorite followed by Ballet Slipper.
SOTD: Seattle Chocolate
Good man!
I’m with you regarding the Pantone colors. The only one I care for is tawny port- I’m a sucker for anything “cranberry, merlot, raspberry, port,..” notice the gustatory connection?! ????
I just wish that the “burgundy ” pieces I bought this year would match the “wine” pieces I can buy this year.
Nice choice (perfume)! I might wear that later too.
Shake Shack, yum.
Wearing my easy Chanel no 5 edt. Funny how I consider it one of my “no brainers”, while others consider it challenging.
I consider it a no brainer as well. It’s so elegant and dry downs beautifully for the day. Eau Premiere is even easier to wear in early fall end of summer- that lift that the citrus gives is just perfect.
I never took to Eau Premiere-too much vanilla for me and something about Chanel vanilla specifically doesn’t work for me. Allure has the same issue.
But, I like the EDT and EDP equally, so I’ve got plenty of no 5 to love!
Oh good, I thought I was the only one that Eau Premiere didn’t work for.
I could t wear it either y’all! And I can’t wee the gorgeous Beige either :/. More for someone who can right!? 🙂
Huh, I can’t imagine what the challenging bits in the edt are. I’m with you – I find it really easy-to-wear and casual. I wouldn’t say that about the other versions of No 5. I love the edt in summer and didn’t wear it nearly enough this year.
I’m not sure either. The current edt is not even particularly aldehydic to me.
I feel like this about Eau Premiere. It is a much lighter version, but still I feel it’s odd to consider a Chanel scent a no-brainer.
Weirdly, I find Eau Premiere heavier-maybe because of the vanilla.
The citrus & vanilla won me over.
The last time I did a side-by-side of No. 5 edt and edp, the edt seemed woodier and had a shade more of something bitter-green there too. Perhaps the sandalwood registers differently. I enjoy both but bought the edp. Noses are funny. 🙂
Happy Monday!
1) Last Week: The heat and smoke in PNW will kill us all! Allah, forgive us! Today: Cool and fresh and rainy, with brief, drenching showers. How wonderful. The air is being cleansed of the foul smoke and streets cleansed of accumulated summer filth. You can smell the soil, with all the microecology and the fall flowers.
2) I picked loads of ripe figs and have been eating meals of cheese and figs and wine, like a particularly dissipated Roman matron. My crazy and generous neighbors have gifted me with eggs, homemade goat cheese, squash, tomatoes, plums, greens and a small homemade bottle of cannabis oil.
I made crustless mini quiches and salad for this week’s lunch with the bounty above. Lovely. Am super lucky.
3) Am in Eau Premiere today- seemed perfect for the rainy, steel grey skies. Wonderful.
I aspire to be a “dissipated Roman matron” ????
It’s a delicious place to aspire to!????
What lovely neighbors you’ve got! Bread seems to be missing from your meals 😉 but perhaps it’s something you avoid.
I fear summers of massive and concurrent wildfires on the west coast is going to be the new normal. This year we got it from all directions (except the water one) all summer long: north from BC, east from the eastern part of the state, and south from y’all.
I have bread sometimes, with olive oil, but I am so greedy with the figs that I do fill up quick on those.
I am thinking the weather extremes will become more and more the norm. Not good for humans in general.
Figs, cheese and bread is one of my favorite meals. As is olive, cheese and bread. We are two dissipated Roman matrons!
Also–what great neighbors! Homemade goat cheese must be great.
I have bread sometimes, with olive oil, but I am so greedy with the figs that I do fill up quick on those.
I am thinking the weather extremes will become more and more the norm. Not good for humans in general.
I love everything about this comment. As a fellow PNW-er, I’m so glad the rains have come in to clear the air of smoke. I sincerely hope this spells the beginning of the end for all the fires. Your lunches cooking sound fantastic, as does your perfume choice. Figs and homemade goat cheese! Mmmmm.
I really hope so too. Enough burning lands, enough!
A weakness of mine is eating out so I am trying cook as much really good food at home and bring it to work and have dinner at home.
I am swooning with love of your neighbors, and I’ve been wondering if enough of your smoke has drifted to NY to make our skies hazy. It’s been like this for almost a week–sunny but filtered.
Very happy for your rain and your goodies!
Possibly! The whole West has been on fire ????
Your whole post is the epitome of luxury living to me:simple pleasures!Enjoy it all!!
That all sounds delish, and if I could get my neighbors to actually hold the door for me, that would be as neighborly as it gets. You’re lucky!
Very lucky- they are crazy but they are kind!
After seeing Bear mention it, become very curious about Jil by Jil Sander. Bout a small splash of eBay and testing today. I get the raspberry in the opening and then a plasticky-pencil vibe, reminds me a bit of Theorema in that regard (sandalwood, maybe?). Thanks, Bear!
That was a signature scent for me about 15 years ago. I can’t say I ever picked up raspberry, plasticky-pencil, or anything Theorema-ish in it, though. I have always loved her fashion designs, too.
Part of me wonders if it’s the real deal or not, the risk of buying from eBay I suppose. Mine is in a tiny frosted glass bottle, a little chartreuse in color. Although the other JIL in a pink bottle looks great too!
You’re welcome, dstsauve !
Always happy to enable !!
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Jil-Sander/Jil-624.html
This is the scent I am referring to kpaint.
You don’t smell raspberries ?
Interesting.
😉
Oh! I remembered wrong. I wore Jil Sander Pure! LOL And definitely no raspberries 😉
Went with Soivohle Purple Love Smoke this morning. A smooth, smokey violet – definitely purple, and not on the Pantone list.
That sounds really good.
Yum! That’s one of my favorites from Soivohle.
I’m wearing Loewe 001 Woman. Purchased it now. It is weired, I don’t think it’s necessarily an amazing fragrance but somehow I fell in love. I think it clicked with a memory and now it’s like love makes blind 🙂 I could spray it over and over, then wait a while since I need to get passed the fruit in the opening…
I think it might have something in common with CDG Concrete but I find it more layered and wearable. In Concrete the sweetness is too dominant and linear for me.
It sounds interesting. Perfume love is wonderful
I like Loewe 001 more and more as well. I also like the men’s version.
still have to try the men’s
After a summer of wearing sandals I had to wear closed-toe shoes this morning. I have a dental cleaning this afternoon so no scent yet, but I can still smell the remnants of yesterday’s Stash on my sweater. I might put it on again later.
YES. I wore sandals with wool socks last night and thought, “What am I doing? Time for winter slippers, stat!” Down jackets are suddenly in order as well. That sure happened fast. *sigh*
Pulp shower gel, Anniversary Blend coffee, sample of Mojave Ghost body lotion and Guerlain Le Plus Beau Jour de ma Vie. Hope everyone has a good Monday!
How is Mojave Ghost in body lotion form?
it’s very nice. the scent is true to the perfume. I have enjoyed all their body products that I’ve tried. I like that the lotion is available in a pump, too.
It’s cold enough in LA to wear a sweater, and that’s true luxury. So to celebrate I’m wearing my favorite sweater (the one that spends 9+ months of the year in my closet), drinking hot coffee with cinnamon, and wearing vintage Opium. Opium strikes me as Tawny Port with hints of Grenadine in that Pantone palette.
Navy Peony is a pretty color but I’m a bit perplexed by the name, honestly.
re: LA sweater weather, I feel the same way! It’s so exciting! haha
Before moving here, I never would have guessed I’d spend so much of my time longing for cold weather!
Ha! I don’t get Navy Peony either. And sweater weather in LA is a joyous occasion! I remember when I first moved from LA out east I was totally unprepared for cold weather as all I owned was a light-ish weight rain coat which was my “heavy” coat and also hung in my closet most if the year.
Don’t get the name. Love the color.
Cool foggy morning, went with a fall favourite, Musc Ravageur.
you really can’t go wrong with this one. you smell wonderful!
When do you migrate south? Must be soonish.
I am wearing the princess of perfumes, the gorgeous Mohur. This is in my top ten fall perfumes in that it is in my top ten for any season ever (THE top…? definitely top three for sure, if not truly #1). I may flirt with those other scents, but I will always come back to Mohur.
On a much sadder note, the pain in my foot has returned, so it seems likely that the fracture never healed and that I’ll have to get foot surgery after all. As my PhD advisor used to say, “Life sucks and then you die.” (He was a peach.)
Good lord, your PhD advisor sounds like a sullen teenager. That must have been quite trying to deal with.
What a bummer about your foot 🙁 🙁 If surgery heals it for once and all, it ought to be worth it, though?
Definitely worth it. The doctor said there was about an 80 % chance that my foot would go back to its normal functionality. Unfortunately, I have a strong foundation in statistics, and a 20 % chance of something getting messed up sounds a LOT higher to me than to people who don’t think about math all the time. (I’m constantly amazed by how pleased people seem to be about condoms being 98 % effective. There’s a 2 % chance it might fail with correct use?!?! That is so many percentage points! WIDESPREAD PANIC!)
On the other hand, there appears to be a nearly 0 % chance of things going back to normal without surgery. So there’s that 🙂
With you on the condoms! And general issues of innumeracy, which I frankly share in even as I know it’s a problem.
And so sorry about your foot.
A patient asked my brother (a surgeon) that he read that a particular surgery has an 80% success rate; what are his chances? He answered, it was successful for 80% of thousands of people; for the patient, with a sample of 1, the success rate is either 0 or 100%.
Sorry about your foot.
Sorry to hear about your foot.
Wishing you good luck with your foot! Totally with you on Mohur, it is as close to perfect as anything I’ve ever come across.
As others in my neck of the woods have noted, summer came to a screeching halt this weekend. Dry and hot Saturday; 20 degree temp dip and pouring down rain yesterday. Will be the latter from here on out whilst that 20 degree dip grows eventually to a 50 degree one. *cries a little*
I’ve inaugurated it with some vintage Fendi. Will be spending the day swapping my summer closet for my winter one (seriously, where are my winter coats??) and starting in on my swapmeet list. Dinner will be my usual “summer’s over/fall’s here” meal of Greens, Beans and Sausages.
Can I come over for dinner?
Stella for me, because it is not likely to bother those close around me. Who doesn’t want to sit near a bouquet of roses?
Those colors do nothing for me except maybe the navy and the spruce. They all seem quite bland. Looking forward to the other cities to see if I need to move… ????
Ha — New York & London is all there is, because they appear to be related to fashion week. (Although isn’t there a fashion week in Italy??)
It’s the 19th here and the anniversary of women’s suffrage in NZ. All women in NZ were given the vote here in 1893, the first country in the world to do so. To celebrate I’ll wear one of my favourites: Journey . We’ve got our national election this weekend and we might get a change of government and a female leader.
Two thumbs up! way up
Good for New Zealand, I think we only got it in 1919 (Switzerland was spectacularly late though, 1991!)
I wish we had a like button for things like this. 🙂
Go NZ!
Thumbs up for NZ sufferage!
There was a really cool American mountaineer called Annie Smith Peck who carried a flag “votes for women” to the summit of a Peruvian mountain (Coropuna, 21 000feet/6400metres) in 1911. She had thought she had climbed higher than any other person in the world but the altitude record actually belonged to Fanny Bullock Workman. The American National Biography online has info about them. Quite a few female mountaineers were suffragettes.
Sorry, that should be Huascaran, 1904
Morning, NST. Tell me, why do I offer to do things when I already have just enough time to do the things I already do? One of my colleagues broke his leg really badly a couple of months ago, and when I was talking to his wife, she told me was deeply stressed about the next issue of the journal his research centre publishes. I found myself offering to proofread it, which in itself isn’t a problem. The time frame gives me great pause though: I’ll get it on Wednesday; the proofs have to be with him again on Friday. That’s quite an ask. Now I feel anxious too.
Oh well, SOTD helps. Beloved, for a warmer day (should get to 16C) but it will be unsettled. “Classy skank” is how I think of this perfume: if Lady Susie gets caught creeping up the backstairs at 5 in the morning, dishevelled and buttoned up crooked, she’d be wearing a small reminiscent smile, a whole lot of defiance, and Beloved.
The kittens are in full riot mode, especially the little stripey joblets. They work as a unit of two within the bigger gang, and at the moment their object of destruction is an arrangement of wooden ‘flowers’ I have in a tall vase on the steps. Eric is resting up for a few minutes, probably thinking up his next sortie. He has finished his food and to show his appreciation to the chef, has solemnly placed a piece rabbit fur in his plate, rather the way we would put our knife and fork together to indicate we have finished eating. He does this all the time, far too often for it to be random or coincidence, and it really does seem (to this fond owner) to be purposeful and intentional. However, I accept that the key words in this paragraph are “fond owner”…I want to think he’s clever, because he’s so much smaller than the bruisers in the gang.
Be well, all. I love your scents today.
You are a good person (for helping your colleague) and you smell great!
I realize that it will be hard for you with that deadline but you’re putting a good thing out there to Universe, and it has to come back to you or your loved ones at some point.
Love the rabbit fur gesture. Cats are so funny and entertaining!
What?! That’s definitely on purpose! Says this rampant anthropomorphizer of kittens. But really, it’s kitten-pomorphizing as leaving the remnants of an eaten carcus for one’s person is totally a kitten thing. ‘Look what I caught!’ So perhaps he’s trying to take credit for the lovely meal you served up.
Wearing Eau de Tommi Sooni II – sadly disappeared brand; the perfume is perfect for the warm almost autumn day.
That brand did just seem to fizzle out!
I’m in JM Orris and Sandalwood today. It’s perfect for the New Mexico weather today. I credit Elisa P for me liking iris notes. I was ready to give up after a few iris misses, but she guided me in the right direction and now it is one of my favorite notes!
Side note, I actually like that palette other than the pink which feels out of place to me…
I love iris, too. Can you recall–and share–some of Elisa’s suggestions. I don’t usually go for JM because most of her scents are so short-lived on me. Thanks!
She suggested Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue, No. 19, Hermès Hiris, AG Heure Exquise, FM Iris Poudre, and Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile. I had tried Iris Silver Mist and Atelier’s Silver Iris, neither of which I enjoyed. I fell in love with the Prada and also No. 19. I have a decant of Heure Exquise coming from the swapmeet and can’t wait to get my hands on it!
I will also say that the JM Orris and Sandalwood lasts longer on me that some of her others do.
House twin 🙂
Awww. If I can’t help create world peace, grateful I could create some iris love!
I am dying to get my hands on the FM Iris hand lotion. I do not know for how long I will resist. Maybe it will be Christmas present to myself….. I am an iris lover. My favorite is Chanel 28 La Pausa.
Fall is well and truly here in Seattle, but today I’m in Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess for a last summer hurrah. I keep getting whiffs of myself at work and thinking, “Something smells delicious! …Oh, it’s me. I smell delicious!” I hope all my coworkers think I smell as good as I think I do!
Love Bronze Goddess!!
I love it when I realize it’s me that smells delicious!
No doubts you smell delicious! One of my favorites too.
I finally got a small decant of Hiris. It lasts 5 minutes on me.
Yep. It happens to me as well. OK, maybe not 5 but after 30 minutes I need a mental effort to remember that I put on some perfume.
Same. I also had to drench myself in it to get anything at all. A 3 ml decant lasted 2 uses. Super sad, as it’s my perfect warm-weather iris 🙁
I like the Pantone palette (maybe except for the pink). Two rooms in my house are painted colors similar to ones in the palette, so I guess these work for me. 🙂
I’m wearing LL Si Lolita today.
I’m with you on this. Not crazy about the pick or the mid-blue, but like the rest. And just love pallets in general.
OJ Woman for me today, inspired by the earlier comments. Getting further into spring here, but in fits and starts. It’s quite cold here today and I’m trying to resist going back to boots.
You smell gooooood!
Love Woman- you smell great!
Monday is Overrrrr….Looking fwd to Friday and a loooooong weekend!(no work on friday, next monday is HERITAGE DAY in South Africa,it’s a public holiday)!!So YAY for that.
SOTD is something I wish all of you can experience some day:local Botanical brand Rose en Bos(Roses and vines) Imithi.I always describe it as “forest mulch”,because it reminds me of cool damp earth, wet leaves and mud,and some sweet forest fruits and nuts.Such an authentic, local perfume.I love it.I did notice a serious evaporation situation in my bottle, this is the first spray bottle in my collection this is happening to!(Chanel Parfum is also sharing waaaaaayyy too much with the angels, but it’s a dabber so expected that!)
Have a wonderful week everyone!
X
That sounds seriously nice! Sorry it is evaporating. You could try parafilm?
It’s a muggy Monday where I am at. Plus, my allergies are acting up today. Nothing serious, just incredibly annoying. Phooey. SOTD = Bottega Veneta EdP, the original.
My fall allergies are usually worse than my spring allergies, and they are annoying. Do they get better for you after the first freeze?
I usually have FAR worse allergies in spring, but most of my allergies are year-round… stuff like dust and mold. I do notice when there is a lot of “junk” in the air no matter what the season.
Wearing Bruma today and hoping that Robin will review it soon. I love it, although the best part is fairly fleeting.
I will, I swear! I am so behind on reviews.
After a long weekend, today is my Saturday. It’s been quite busy too!
SOTD is Narciso White Cube. I know that’s not the official name, but it should be. The last couple of times I’ve worn this, my first thought has been: jet-puffed marshmallow creme. Does anyone remember that? Do they still make it? Right out of the jar on a spoon. Yum. This combined with wood shavings is very lovely on my skin.
The highlight of my day has been the nice young gentleman at Trader Joe’s who addressed me as “miss” when he handed me my receipt. ☺️I despise “ma’am,” even though I am of ma’am age now.
Now to read everyone’s comments! And top fall picks!
Oh yes that marshmallow creme still exists 🙂
and I love being called miss too…which happens rarely as I am also of ma’am age now-LOL!
It (sadly) happens rarely for me too, which is why it made my day!????
Someone called me “Miss” the other day and I said, “Thank you for not ma’am-ing me.” I passed “miss” age years ago but I hate being ma’am-ed. I can’t even remember where this incident occurred, but it was a man who was slightly taken aback but also amused. Hopefully my comment stuck with him!
Another ma”am here. Yay for being a Miss today!
My week of Autumn scents kicks off with Salvatore Ferragamo “Vendemmia” from the Tuscan Soul collection.
Top: citro and peach;
Mid: fig leaf and jasmine;
Base: sandalwood and tonka bean.
Today, deciding whether this is a sandalwood or a fig leaf perfume is like choosing between duck and rabbit:

Ha, great cartoon!
Decided to hit my Tauer samples and picked Une Rose Vermeille. Pretty enough but not really my style. (Which is what my notes from the last time I wore it said!)
I like and wear Une Rose Vermeille but for me it works only in Winter.
Robin, in the swapmeet rules says the next freebiemeet will be in May or June. Was the freebiemeet for September 30 cancelled or is still going?
Ack, no, that’s old copy — I will fix it!
And thank you for noticing!
Thank you! 🙂
Horribly busy at work today so I am posting late. I celebrated cheeseburger day with a veggie burger. SOTD was Equistrius. Now to read the comments.
I wore Fils de Dieu earlier and I think this evening I will spray a good amount of something leathery in hopes of summoning autumn. Weather report says we’ll be in the high 80s next weekend – WOOT!
SotD = L. T. Piver Heliotrope Blanc
Comforting almond-y flowers, cheap as chips, I like it very much. Today the weather is finally cool enough for a wool sweater in the morning. I’m looking forward to everyone’s autumn fragrance picks.
That Pantone palette takes me back in time. Years ago I often wore a ballet pink blouse, shirt, or turtleneck with a skirt or trousers in a dark brown, navy, grey, or black. It was my go-to uniform for the office. Very cheerful, especially on a Monday.
SOTD = SSS Pacific Forest
I will try to do 5 days of Fall Fragrances. Love this resinous green perfume. The weather, not so much, as we are back to warm humid weather.
Am I the last person to notice that embroidered and patchwork jeans are back in style? I’m behind in perusing clothes catalogs and I decided to look through JJill and Sahalie, both of which happened to have this type of jeans for sale. In any case, I saw a really ugly pair and googled it to get the link. OH MY, lordie lordie, the jeans I thought were ugly were actually “not bad” as compared with some of the ones that came up in the search…so ugly they hurt my eyes and I cannot unsee.
I am herewith on a quest to find the ugliest pair of jeans in the world. I’ll do a countdown, starting at No. 5:

Commuting Woes No. 392:
Why do rubenesque+ people who have luggage and other big bags INSIST on standing in the middle of the train platform?
Commuting Woes No. 393:
Yep, again with the armpit! Why do people with armpit B.O. like to hold on to the highest part of a pole? One could tell that the circulation inside the train car is really good because the odor wafted all around, but of course, there are usually a bunch with B.O.
Haha, those jeans are really ugly!
And there’s more even uglier!
Oh wow those jeans..so ugly.
Looking forward to 4 to 1 😀
Please tell me there is a stone washed, high waist, carrot fit jeans in there. Bonus if it has some zips or paint splashes on it to brighten things up.
“Distressed” is in.
Your quest immediately made me think of these:

Which I had hoped to forget! ???? ???? ???? ???? ????
Lol, these are ugly!
