Tuesday scent of the day 8/1

Posted by Robin on 1 August 2017 190 Comments

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Welcome to August. What fragrance are you wearing?

I am commando, as I have to leave shortly to take care of some family business (nothing bad, just stuff I need to do). Posting will be lighter than usual today as a result. Tea at the moment is China Panyang Wu-Yi Golden Monkey from Upton.

Reminder: 8/4 will be Compare & Contrast Friday...wear two perfumes with the same note. Suggested by thegoddessrena.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Peter Rabbit tea set ("Providing endless opportunities for playtime fun, the Children's tea set includes miniature Teapot, Sugar and Creamer as well as Cups, Saucers and Plates for two. When the entertaining has ended, this beautifully designed collection can be housed in its bespoke blue suitcase – a stand out gift to be treasured.") is $99 at Wedgwood.

just looked this one up, and it sounds lovely. Google let me know it is on sale at Neiman Marcus for $600, but with free shipping! because once you put down $600 every little bit helps I guess ;)

Oh, it’s a must-try for orange blossom fans! On the cleaner side of OB scale – a white floral with citrus aspects, but still a bold and heady white floral.
$600 is for the Parfum version. If you scroll down, you’ll see the EDP version for $190. Still not cheap, that’s for sure, but there are discounters and splits.

Happy Tuesday, NST! Today’s theme: lavender. I’m in a little Urban Decay Go Naked oil and a lot of L’Occitane Lavande from a roll-on.

Exciting news #1: I got a new (to me) bike yesterday! It’s a cute, gently used Schwinn road bike that just needs the cobwebs brushed off and a tune-up. I can’t wait to take it for a spin.

Exciting news #2: I’m kicking off my summer/fall concert season by going to an Alt-J concert at an outdoor theater tonight! Can’t. Wait.

Wish I could, but it’s near downtown in an area with lots of traffic, so I’m not quite brave enough to get there on a bike. The weather is shaping up to be perfect!

Lavender is a big hit these days in Long Island, I was reading yesterday in the WSJ (n/a) that people are coming from all over to take selfies and photos of their lavender fields in LI, so much so that all the residents are starting to complain about the traffic and influx of tourists.

Wearing Jean-Louis Scherrer Scherrer on my wrists and Mito on my torso. These 2 scents seems so similar in nature, but there are very few official notes that they seen to share – Oakmoss for the win.

I am green, green, green today ( even my shirt), just on the verge of being harsh. As long as neither I nor the scents tip over, all is good.

I did remember rabbit x 3 when I got up this AM, but my true 1st words of the day were ” Bosley, go lay down, Momma doesn’t want her toes nibbled” at 2 am to a young, silly greyhound who somehow determined it was playtime.

I wore Coco to bed last night, and again this morning. I purchased it because I wanted a gold standard oriental, even though I was not fully enamored with it. I have to say I like it more and more the more I wear it! My husband’s Grandmother wore it, and he likes it too – I have no previous associations with it. I like that everyone is not wearing it. That is all.

Yes, I don’t think many people wear it. When I bought my bottle the SA seemed confused that I wasn’t purchasing Coco Mademoiselle. To me it feels less dated than some big eighties perfumes and very rich.

Well, it’s an AdP Cologne, so it smells of citrus for about 5 minutes. ;^)

        Here are the official notes:
        Top: bergamot, bitter orange, sweet orange and lemon verbena;
        Mid: jasmine, vetiver, ylang-ylang, cedar, cardamom, pink pepper and paprika;
Base: patchouli, oakmoss, white musk and resins.

        Yeah, as if.

My Community Project is Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Bianca on my right side and Prada Infusion de Fleur d’oranges (original incarnation) on my left. White flowers and orange blossoms all round, but the Aqua Allegoria is more herbal and light, while the Prada is rounder and deeper, IMHO.

Been very busy w/ the new job I have had no time to read or post. :(

But I am debating springing for Chypre Fatal. A very kind NSTer gave me a decant and I think I must have more. :) Does anyone have any thoughts or feelings ;) on the current formula…wondering if it is safe to go ahead and order and not worry about reformulation or not.

I so miss pouring over the comments…must…carve…out…time…today…

    Also something I have noticed….

I have been trying to wear less perfume w/ the new job so I have only been spraying my forearms. Typically I might spray my stomach, forearms and neck/decolletage.

Since I have only been applying to my forearms the last couple weeks, I notice that all the perfumes I have worn seem to last longer and even seem a bit stronger and I wonder if spraying my neck/decolletage makes for olfactory fatigue/overload where I couldn’t smell the fume as well. This is an interesting discovery for me and I wonder if by spraying my neck/decolletage in hopes of more fumigation I have actually been getting less…

I’m wearing Orange Sanguine on one arm and 4711 AC Blood Orange & Basil on the other. The Blood Orange & Basil does not have the sillage of the Orange Sanguine, and is not as juicy an orange fragrance. However, it is very much cheaper.

I bought AC Blood Orange and Basil, as well as the Mandarine and Cardamom – and like them both to a surprising degree. I keep one in my linen closet, and the other in my laundry room, and use them as home sprays. I find the 4711 colognes to be very much in the vein of Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria line. Really quite nice, especially for the price.

I have never tried them that way. Since I have cats, I tend not to use home sprays. They would also make great linen sprays, although I don’t know if they would stain. I might try the Lavender & Thyme and see what happens. I am about to trash my sheets anyway, since they all have rips. All those cat claws, you know.

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! That tea set is adorable.

Last month I made a vow not to do any shopping (beyond basics), and I failed so miserably I’m embarrassed to explain any further. So let’s try this again: no shopping in August.

Among my failures were some decants from a 20% off sale, which arrived yesterday. Today I’m trying Pacifica French Lilac, which is lovely. I will probably pick up a bottle (in September!).

I have a rollerball of French Lilac and the matching lotion. It’s very pretty. The damage couldn’t have been too bad since it is Pacifica. I know what you mean though. I resist for several months and then fall off the wagon.

The Pacifica decant was very cheap (I actually felt a bit silly buying a decant of a cheapie, but I’m sticking to my no blind-buy rule, if not my no shopping rule) but the others I bought were Serge Lutens and Guerlain. I haven’t bought much since Feb, and I have to admit I had a great time testing some new things yesterday!

To this day I don’t have any FBs by SL. So far I tried Ambre Sultan, Chergui,Arabie, Daim Blond, Santal Majuscule, Datura Noir, LFdB, Chypre Rouge, Fumerie Turque ( talked myself out of buying it, but would participate in a split in a heartbeat) and Louve ( a generous NSTer sent me a decant).
Generally, SL scents either don’t work for me (scrubbers!) or they are not easy to wear, in which case the decant will be enough.

I’ve been testing a manufacturer’s spray sample I’m ready to pass along, so I could send you a tad less than 1 ml if you want. I didn’t douse myself on the two days I wore it, so I didn’t deplete it much.

Some aspects of the fragrance I love, and I’m happy I made the attempt, but it falls into the Not Easy to Wear category, as you say—because of some shared DNA with Secretions Magnifiques ;)

    Phew… it’s 35*C in the shade today.
I sprayed some Atelier Cologne Pomelo Paradis in the morning, shut down all the blinds and opened all windows wide open it order to let the air circulate (no air conditioning in my lab).

As a consolation prize to this weather my bottle of Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore arrived. 100 ml & it’s all mine. For 35 euros! I know what I’m going to wear tomorrow :)

Happy belated birthday! I was so busy coping with similar work days that I’ve missed a ton of NST-ing.

I think the Wedgwood is nice for a grandparent sort of gifty thing. My grandpa got me a fancy demitasse teacup and saucer every year for my birthday when I was little. Completely impractical but hugely thrilling to have something that was fancy and MINE in the china cabinet. I was allowed to drink coffee from them when he was visiting, just like a real grownup.
For the record, we still use the Corelle I grew up with. Far more practical ;)

Like Petunia, I’m also wearing iris today but mine are Hiris, Infusion d’Iris, and D600. Hope I don’t suffocate the Comcast technician coming this afternoon. I bought a new modem and online tech support couldn’t get it to connect, so I have to have an in-home visit. I hate Comcast but the only other available provider is (can you imagine?) worse for bait-and-switch promos and customer service.

Yesterday was lilac–this week’s project has made me realize that when I like a note, I usually end up with at least three different takes on it. Tuberose and jasmine have at least six each!

Unfortunately neither the Hedonist or iris worked on me. I had thought about the 5 piece travel set available on Viktoria Minya’s website and was very glad I didn’t blind buy it based on my affection for the rose one. I don’t think honey is listed as a note for the other 2, but my notes to myself indicate I smelled honey in them, which doesn’t usually work well for me.

If you find you like the rose, that 3 piece set seems wonderful!

Today’s SOTD is Fleur d`Oranger 27 body lotion by Le Labo, one of my favorite orange blossom scents, with notes of orange blossom, petitgrain, bergamot and lemon and a musk dry down. Very refreshing and light but this scent lasts all day on me – quite fragrant!

I collect antique tea sets/cups (and adore Beatrix Potter & Peter Rabbit), I would love to have this in my collection! My mom did needle point and focused on works by Beatrix Potter, seeing this reminds me of some of her work, which I’m very fortunate to have!

I received the gift of four perfumes from a Queenstown perfumer yesterday, all based on South Island (NZ) landscapes, and using extracts from native plants. The first is High Country Tussock with notes of koromiko which is a hebe. The scent has a quiet, creamy mimosa ( koromiko has a faint sweet pollen/ freesia scent) aspect and I think it also has a faint raspberry scent , rather like a snowberry. The second is Mountain Herbs which is very sheer, but with aninteresting horopito note. Horopito is an alpine growing pepper tree, a black pepper scent with a touch of bitterness like wormwood, maybe a flash of juniper. The pepper works well on the skin. Both perfumes are very sheer…the tussock is an EDP, the herbs EDT, very close to the skin but they do develop rather than fade to nothing. A little bit on the watery side, as in could use a bit more body. I will test the other two today.

I’m currently staying at the East-West Center at University of Hawaii in Honolulu while husband is doing his interview with the academic dept … they call it a “hotel for guests of the university,” but really it’s just a dorm room with a private shower. No AC. Scratchy sheets. Barely any electrical sockets. Good thing we’re not paying for this, or I’d be kind of annoyed. It was so humid when we got here last night at 10:30 that we could barely sleep, and then the trash guys came this morning at 6 am and emptied the bins (very loudly CLANK CRASH CLANK BANG) right underneath our open window.

Sorry. I’m in Hawaii and I’m complaining. What is wrong with me?

Hot Hot Hot here in the SF Bay area. Those of us above the fog-inversion layer (over 1000 ft) are in for days and nights of hot-ness. So I’m going beachy with my scents for the rest of this week. SOTM was Parfumerie Generale Bois Naufrage; then I went for a swim; SOTA is Bronze Goddess Shimmering Body Oil. It’s a bit milder than the perfume… nice.

    “Scent of the afternoon”

I ran into Ulta and spritzed hypnotic poison on my left arm, and Escasa fiesta Carioca on my right. If perfume were groceries, yes, I would throw these in my cart but they are not so they will stay at Ulta.

There was a rude Ulta cashier who refused to be helpful to an elderly lady looking for full coverage make up. So I helped her, and also let her know how great the Josie Maran full coverage foundation is. Just doing my part.

That is great foundation, especially for dry skin.

We need to do some perfumath! Whatever the total cost is of the 2 bottles is what you saved today which means you have free money to spend on your next perfume purchase!

Good on you with helping the elderly lady. If there was a Sephora nearby, I would have walked her there to buy what she tried on at Ulta. Some SA’s don’t have any sense – they follow people who don’t want to be disturbed and ignore people who look like they could use some help. I tend to get loud when ignored…like when the lone cashier decides to arrange the display even though I was on line with an item in hand. My “Is there a cashier here?” is loud enough to wake the dead.

“Hellllooooo????” Bwahaha :) I hear you, The SA at my Ulta seem particularly confused.

And I love your financial logic Hajusuuri :)

I did the Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit thing this morning. To remind me to say it, I unearthed the 5-inch arm and leg poseable bunny I filched from my nephew 14 years ago, placed it in a gold organza bag and hung the bag on the bathroom door handle.

I kinda sorta participated in the Friday Challenge theme of Compare and Contrast wearing perfumes with the same note.

SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP layered with 28 La Pausa

I had a theory of how this would go down, with 19 walloping La Pausa’s head. Well, color me surprised! La Pausa held her own and asserted herself alongside No.19!

In this episode of She Was Wearing What?!?
Woman with two sons. One looked to be 8 and the other one 3 or 4. I’m not a good judge of age based on my oddly shaped and sized nephewa and nieces. Anyway, picture a medium-weight cable knit just below the butt sweater, cut out the back panel but leaving the neck hole with about 2 inches of fabric and the cap sleeves intact, add two strips of fabric forming an x-back located waist high (I assume this is to put the fromt together, no bra (the sides of her boobies were visible) and I refused to look more inttently for a panty line. Part of me thought thank God she did not have young girls travelling with her! But what about the boys? What kind of message is she sending to the boys? Unbelievable!

Poor kids. I wonder if she bought her outfit or made it herself? I guess it really doesn”t matter but I have to wonder if she missed a dose of medicine?

I would recommend Comme des Garcons Incense series, Tom Ford Sahara Noir, Donna Karan Black Cashmere. I think this is discontinued, but you can find decants in STC and other online decanting stores.

SSS Incense Pure, Bond no 9 Chinatown, Heeley’s Cardinal, Demeter’s Incense and straight up frankincense essential oil which can be bought at a local health food store.

Oh I had a sample of that one and one other by this perfumer and I drained them both very quickly…I liked them as well.
