Yay, Almost-Friday! Plus, it's Onion Rings Day and Chocolate Eclair Day - there's lunch. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum from Jessica's Top 10 Summer Fragrances 2014.
Reminder: On 6/23, wear one of your "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In a dab of Dame Perfumery’s Black Flower Mexican Vanilla (perfume oil version). I must admit, I like his style. This is really lovely stuff.
Cousins I’m in Earth Mother. First one I’ve tried from him and so far I’m really liking it.
Earth Mother, Sky Father and Monsoon are the only Dames I have yet to try.
Very warm and comforting patchouli and musk. Sweet, but not not too sweet.
Agreed, I get a hint of spiciness in the drydown. Mid-development I got an unfortunate latex note — but this is something my nose does to many perfumes with creaminess to them, so it’s definitely a YMMV situation.
Thanks for the report
I also like Earth Mother
I like his style too!!! There are two bottles of BFMV floating around our house….several other full bottles, lots of decants and lots of samples! And Mr. Dame is the loveliest and most generous indie perfumer I have ever met….real class act
Triple strength coffee.
Monogramy. – sorta, kinda.
Shalimar PDT , right now all bergamot and funky Opoponax.
“Bad breath ” sayeth Daisy.
Funny how random ideas weld themselves to one’s brain.
I LOVE IT! !!
How am I not hungry? Extra long workout …………
CD du jour.- Speaking in Tongues Talking Heads.
Turn like a wheel inside a wheel…..
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Onion Rings, now there’s a breakfast of champions! !!
No, the Breakfast of Champions is Jack Daniels and Cheerios
Onion rings would go well with that ( thinks the part of me which insists I am still 20)
Make it Jim Beam, and we’re on!
Bear, you should hear the random thoughts in my head, lol. I blame them mostly on seventies sitcom’s:)
Yes, I am very stream of consciousness.
Happy belated Birthday, lillyjo!
❤️ Talking Heads! If you haven’t seen Stop Making Sense, you absolutely must.
I will look for it.
Love the poly-rythyms and percussion. I sing along, too.
Gee, thanks, spell check !!
I look around ebay occasionally for the PdT but have only seen small mini dabber bottles. Did it ever come out in a full-size spray?
I have a full size but it’s in one of those boring refill bottles for the gold canister.
Ah! I’ll keep looking, then.
Mine is a 75ml spray, circa mid 80’s.
Wearing PdN Week-End. One of my big summer and all seasons favorites. I love it!
Coffee seems too plain today without a Chocolate Eclair. In need of one very sooooon….
Everything seems too plain without a chocolate eclair
I could really really go for a chocolate eclair and a coffee…
Hmm I’m wondering if I have a perfume in my collection that would go with? Cafe V by Olympic Orchids comes to mind but I emptied my sample ages ago!
It comes to my mind Bond No.9 New Haarlem or Jo Malone Orange Bitter and Chocolate.
SOTD is .vero.profumo “Kiki EdP”.
Top: bergamot, citron and passionfruit;
Mid: lavender and geranium;
Base: Musk, patchouli and caramel.
I quite like how this pairs lavender (which, for me, verges on the dull as a perfume note) with passionfruit. I’m not as enamoured by the caramel and I think that overall this perfume is too sweet for my tastes, although not a sugarmonster per se. And perhaps, to my nose, a bit too womanly to be comfortably unisex.
That said, all the .vero.profumo varieties are described as ‘for women’. To my nose Onda, Mito and even Rozy could easily be considered unisex. YMMV.
I didn’t realize Kiki has a passion fruit note! No wonder it’s my favorite Vero!
Only in the edp I think. She added passionfruit to all the edp versions afaik.
I’m wearing Caron Piu Bellodgia and drinking a cup of peppermint tea.
Chocolate eclairs and onion rings are a winning combination!!
Your tea & perfume sounds pretty good too!
I intended to wear Eau du Fier as it’s both strange and great in summer, but I keep it in the bottom of my fridge and couldn’t be bothered to dig for it, so I’m now wearing Sables instead. Gorgeous and unique.
Sables sounds wonderful, I think it’s discontinued tho, as they never have it at AG counters in London. The review in The Guide is excellent, I think it gets 5 star. AG seems to discontinue all its unique scents, so frustrating!
Good news is that, Sables is not discontinued, so you might be able to just get it if you ask for it.
I adore Sables as well, you can get it for a song and dance on some discount sites
I once accidentally ordered Songes when I meant Sables. Very confusing to have jasmine come out of the bottle when you’re expecting immortelle!
Yes, I can see that it would feel rather odd!
On another note: will your passionfruit fragrance become available in Europe at all?
Not yet, austenfan, but I certainly wouldn’t rule it out! We haven’t found a way to legally ship fragrance anywhere other than Canada for under $100 yet, but hopefully we can find a European retailer in the near future. Thank you for asking!
I ordered a decant of Sables when I meant Songes! I still can’t stand Sables, likely because of the shock.
I always get them mixed up, too.
I intentionally ordered a decant of Sables a couple of years ago but it evaporated before I got around to testing it
You smell wonderful.
It really is gorgeous and unique! One of the few scents I have found that I can’t wear in the heat, unfortunately.
Good idea, maybe I should wear that one tomorrow. I have a little decant, and don’t wear it enough…
I’m wearing L’Ombre dans L’eau for thunderstorms, rain, and now brilliant sunshine. I’m really tempted to get some Terracotta, I have the body sun cream, it’s really gorgeous.
Oh, I love l’Ombre!
You smell wonderful! Love that one!
you smell like sunshine
Perfect scent for your weather! I love that shift from murky somber green to sunny rose.
I’m in Dame Earth Mother — first one I’ve tried from him and I’m quite liking it. Oddly it smells better a few inches away than when burying my nose in my elbow (my favorite testing spot).
My favorite spot is the back of my hand.
LOL for a second I read that as Earth Monster.
I would 100% wear a perfume called “Earth Monster”.
Ha! Me, too. Was this in the Smellbent garage sale? ????
I really enjoyed either Earth Mother or Sky Father but not both. I wish I could remember which was which.
I’m in FM Eau de Magnolia today, and running horribly late. Have a lovely day, NSTers!
You too! Hope you were not TOO late.
Today I am wearing Moon Bloom and it’s gorgeous! It’s confirming to me what I did not believe about myself, that I love tuberose!
Oh, you smell fantastic!
And P.S. All the kittens are at the clinic today having their spay/neuter surgery. They are so open and trusting, I hated to leave them at the vet like that. I hope all goes well.
It’s so hard — even though you know it’s to their benefit! Hopefully you’ll have everyone home soon.
Sometimes, you wish you could explain to the little critters.
Moon Bloom is a very nice tuberose iteration.
Did you get through the storm okay?
Yes, thank you for asking! It went further east from us and so we just had some wind and rain here in Houston, nothing much.
Good, I’m glad you’re okay. ????
SOTD is Perles de Lalique, seems to have vanished in the heat
Sorry! We are having slighter cooler weather today, but i know it’s extreme in some places.
I picked L’Eau Chic from Parfums de Nicolai. Lovely stuff. They sell it in a huge splash bottle and I think I would use it if I had it.
I love L’Eau Chic. It’s such a wonderful summer fragrance!
One of woman at work frequently notices my perfume. She gave me a.compliment today on my Eau de Rochas. Love this stuff!
It’s so nice when someone notices! And your co-worker has good taste.
I was eyeing a bottle of this yesterday. Quick description?
Eau de Rochas is an aromatic summer citrus chypre (lime/bergamot/lemon) floral with a slight rough, natural quality. Not at all rounded. Great for heat and humidity.
Of possible interest from BBC news yesterday:
Modern perfumery: Charcoal or sweat?
Having a “dupe” day
Fragonard Lune de Miel today it like a dupe to Dior Hypnotic Poison
Tea Noix de Coco by MF
Pink Truffle Revlon lippy, my dupe for mademoiselle rouge coco by Chanel or Nars dolce vita.
I love the consistency of the lip butters. Why do they have to discontinue the good stuff?
I have two, this one and Candy Apple. Which do you have?
You can still buy them on amazon.
I have Peach Parfait and Berry Smoothie. Was tempted to stock up when I found out about the dc, but resisted. I have enough lip products to last through the zombie apocalypse.
looking up those shades…
Good for you! The Pink Truffle and the Candy Apple were among my favorite lip butters. I’m sad that they discontinued them, too.
which ones do you have?
Wearing the newish Amouage Bracken Woman. The only FB Amouage purchase for me ever. On a hot summer day, I smell like small ferns just peeking out of a damp forest floor. So refreshing, yet secretive.
That sounds just wonderful!
It really is. Most Amouages either do not suit or do not last, but this one is just grand.
I’ll have to get my hands on a sample. I’ve been reading what others have said and it sounds so great and like something I’d really like.
Oh now I have to try this! I had been trying to resist but… You hooked me at “damp forest floor.”
Bracken is a new summer favorite for me as well, and I get lots of compliments on it too.
I really liked this one, but the husband does not care for it and at that price point I’m willing to let it go.
Today it’s ‘Interlude Man’ by Amouage and the scent is unfolding beautifully in the summer warmth.
One of my absolute favourites – the more wear it, the more new facets emerge. :^)
Today, I’m wearing a grab-and-go fragrance. Running late today after a sick day, I didn’t have time to think about what I wanted to wear. So, I went into my decant box and applied the first one I pulled out. Luckily it turned out to be Dame Bergamot, Jasmine & Labdanum. I noticed several people wearing Dame in the comments. Has anyone tried the new one, Monsoon?
You smell great…we have that one in full bottle in our house as it is so versatile.
I am curious about Monsoon too…someone wore it not too long ago.
I recently ordered it in the 5ml sample. It wears very quietly at first, more quietly than Dark Horse or Black Flower Mexican Vanilla. It’s an earthy floral overall, to me. Definitely iris, cedar and what I think is creosote. I’m still not all that good with identifying notes. ????
Tried Armani Prive Rouge Malachite–screechy, loud scrubber on me! Expected Prive to be more discreet. Did you all see one of the new Ken doll models, complete with man bun–bwa ha!
The man-bun, like or hate it, is absolutely getting Ken more attention than he’s had in years!
Shalimar Light for me today. Good version for summer! Although it’s chilly and stormy here today, so I could have just worn the real deal.
I enjoy my MIL’s visits, but man, it really gets you out of your routine when you have company doesn’t it?
Shalimar Light is perfect; can’t understand why it was discontinued. And yes, even good company can throw you all out of sync.
Yes it does! Especially if you are very attached to your routine.
Yesterday Kevin wrote about a rose scent that reminded me I’ve been trying to buy the quarter-ounce spray of Rose Anonyme at Sephora for months and months now. I was on the verge of ordering it from the website when I noticed you could check local availability, so I entered my postal code and sure enough, the store has it. I went in this morning on my way back from the dentist and it was as usual nowhere to be found, so I asked a sales clerk, who (after some prodding) opened a storage drawer and there were THREE of them. She handed me one and then closed the drawer without bothering to put the other two on the shelf where people could, you know, buy them.
Anyway, not my problem. I’m FINALLY in Rose Anonyme and it is glorious: if I had to be honest, I would say, sotto voce, that it’s better, or at least I like it better, than any of Serge Lutens’ three roses, and I’m a colossal fan of his. But this is exactly my kind of rose.
I adore Rose Anonyme. You smell great.
Both my H and I wear this one; he more often than I, and I’m always happy to smell it. Good stuff.
Wow!! I was excited enough that my boyfriend LIKES RA. I’m impressed your H WEARS it.
Starting the day off with Incense Blanc, a perfume oil from Soivohle. It’s surprisingly bright – I don’t get any of the “cool, dark, and smoky” vibe that I usually associate with incense. It’s also spicy. I like it – it’s an unusual take on incense, and despite its distinct sense of being light and bright, it is very calming.
This sounds so interesting! You sent me right over to their website
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one! It sounds wonderful.
I’m wearing Violaceum by L’Artisan from a tiny dab sample and am enjoying its violet and leather combination. I may have to invest in this after my sample is done. Has anyone else tried this one? Thoughts?
Yes! I bought a sample when it first came out and I quite like it. I don’t wear it often because I keep it at work for “emergencies.” I should take it home so I’d wear it more often. Maybe a future split?
I love it and succumbed and bought a bottle. (Pricey, but the bottle is great as well as the juice.) Getting a violet that is truly violet but not overly sweet, with that dry suede side, is just so rare in my experience. It and I Miss Violet are my favorite violet perfumes of the moment.
I was so looking forward to it — but I can smell almost nothing! I’m going to try dumping my sample to see if it’s just light (I tend not to sample heavily), or if I just can’t smell it!
I have a bit of the summertime crud (sore throat, tummy ache, generally worn-out-feeling) so I’m keeping it gentle today in Infusion d’Iris EdT and trying to get through a full at work.
so does my better half….I keep finding our salt in the bathroom as he uses it to gargle his throat. Feel better
Hope you feel better soon. Maybe you can leave early?
I hope you feel bettet soon!
I am still fighting mine. This one is a toughy – I do not think I have felt so down with a cold/flu/whatever it is for so long ever.
I hope you get better soon!
Hope it passes soon!
I began the day in Tabacco Toscano – I received a unsolicited sample of it when I ordered a bottle of Nostaligia for my husband. It’s lovely! I really enjoyed it, but it didn’t last through my shower. Now I’m in L’ambre des Merveilles on an unexpected cool and cloudy day, and smelling great. They’ll love me at the bank.
Have a great Thursday everyone!
I bought Tabacco Toscano for my husband when we went to Rome three years ago. It is such a nice scent! When he wears it, it reminds me of our vacation.
Well, I am all about feast or famine so after my 20+ vials of sampling (the Efflor_esce was the ONLY one that lasted on my scent eating skin…got about six to eight hours out of it) I am going with only one fragrance today…”Minion” cologne sprayed with reckless abandonment (must have done at least 30 sprays all over my body)…it is so darn hot and sticky and I was outside this morning and needed something refreshing with some oomph……the herbs in this gives it oomph and it is so addictive I may spray some more in a little while. I will be getting lots of mileage out of this one this summer!
and y’all know my “Minions Cologne” is Le Couvent des Minimes eau des Minimes Botanical fragrance, right?
Absolutely! I keep a little bottle of Minions in my fridge. Lovely stuff, and it lasts longer than you would think.
Not to enable or anything, but I received a 20% off email from Ulta today, and it includes fragrance. Minions for everyone. ❤️
Oh great idea to keep it in the fridge!
It did seem strange that there would be a Minions cologne but there are stranger things by far on the market, so I for one didn’t bat an eye.
30 sprays? I am in awe.
It is a cologne and my skin eats scent!
I would love to wear Terracotta today, but I am far from my bottle at the moment. I shall not despair and will wear the luminous Jour d’Hermes. They are quite different fragrances but to me have a similar degree of transparency and lift. They always make me smile.
The blue and orange at the top of today’s post is a perfect match for Terracotta. I clicked over to see more images from the same source, worth a moment if you enjoy eclectic photography.
Yes, they do have something in common! And thanks, I actually did not explore the rest of that flickr set so now I will.
Inspired by nebbe’s list of top summer perfumes yesterday, I’m in J. Lo Still today. Such a great perfume for the price.
Do you know if it’s still in stores? My curiosity is high now that several of you have mentioned it favorably.
I’m not entirely certain! I got mine online as a blind buy because I’d heard such good things about it and it was so cheap at a discounter that I figured even if I hated it, it wasn’t a big loss.
Walmart.com currently lists the 3.3 oz for under $13, so it’s probably worth checking your local big box store!
I’m in Anatole Lebreton Grimoire.
Lavender with incense and resins smells so good on the skin when it’s a warm day
It does, right?
Oh need to try in the heat. You smell great.
It blooms really lovely when warm (was 24 degrees here today)
That sounds wonderful ! How does it compare to Lutens Encens et Lavande??
I tried Encens et Lavande only once in my life. Grimoire is definitely more complex than just lavender + incense.
This one sounds very interesting. I was really impressed with L’Eau Scandalese, looking forward to trying this one
L’Eau Scandaleuse is a bomb! And Incarnata is such a playful boudoir smell of lipstick.
Oo — thanks for the reminder about Terracotta, Robin. I may go with that one tomorrow.
I’m in Caligna, which vies with Philosykos for my favorite fig. Fig leaves, hot limestone, sun-baked herbs and chaparral — love this one!
That sounds lovely. Must try!
I pulled my L’Artisan sample set out to remind myself to wear this, but haven’t done so yet. I do so love reading your perfume descriptions – they’re always so evocative, and have sort of a soothing manner.
What a nice thing to say! Thank you. Caligna was a blind buy for me that fortunately worked out well!
I think it was your description that turned me onto Caligna and now have a decant. Such a great, soothing scent. Although I still don’t register “fig”- mostly the herbals and some pale tea.
SHL 777 Taklamakan today. I could use an eclair or two or three for lunch
Going with the opposite spectrum from yesterday’s Ambre Sultan with some Cristalle. I never wear this outside of summer, mostly because I’m hoarding it for summers to come. So perfect in the heat.
Was reading carelessly and thought at first you had _combined_ Ambre Sultan and Cristalle. Gave me quite a turn! Silly me…
Cristalle is indeed lovely in summer; enjoy it as long as you can…
Inititially was intending to wear LL Lys 41 but I had to scrub the one spritz I put on. Seemed suddenly too harsh this morning.
Ended up with a few dabs of Arquiste Ella instead. It has a certain density but doesn’t feel overwhelming in the heat.
I really like Ella. IMO, it’s really well done.
I think so too. It’s interesting and pretty but without being too big. I was at a play last night and had on a tiny bit and kept getting wafts of what smelled like No 5! Up close there are vague similarities to me. Possible it wasn’t me and was someone in the vicinity.
It’s always hard to tell in those situations I went to a show last weekend and kept getting whiffs of something divine. I couldn’t really smell myself so I thought it might be my H. It wasn’t him, so I figured it was someone else in my vicinity.
After the show (when I could move around and get my nose to skin) I realized it was me (!) I was wearing Bvlgari Black and hadn’t worn it in so long I didn’t recognize it. It’s also kind of a shape-shifter on me. I actually stopped wearing it for a while because all I got was big doses of tire rubber, which I didn’t sense at all the other night.
I think it does that in me too. The first few times I got more rubber. Now it seems more vanilla and tea with a squeeze of tire. Maybe weather amps certain notes.
I love lily frags but sometimes they can turn my stomach a bit if I’m not in the right mood.
Yeah, I think it was just too early and too hot. I’ve only worn it in cooler weather and I quite liked it then. I’m holding onto it.
I’m wearing a bit of the original formula Eau Premiere and some of the current formulation.
The original has more of a lemony/citrus vibe in the top notes to me.
The current reminds me of Ostara. I swapped my bottle of Ostara away…too much pond water accord I found. but I don’t get pond water from the current Eau Premiere thankfully.
The original Eau Premiere was just perfect; could kick myself for not buying it back then. Could also kick all the SAs who insist that a.) it was never off the market, and/or b.) was never reformulated! — but that’s another story…
I have to say I find the two very similar though…and I am fervently looking for differences.
I would buy the current formula…the current I am sniffing is a from a decant from an NSTer so I am not sure exactly how current…but she said it was from after they changed the Eau Premiere bottle.
Oh? I didn’t realize there was a bottle change-up. I’ve always kind of wished I liked Eau Premiere more, just so I could have that bottle in my collection, which I’ve always thought was very pretty.
I returned my bottle of Ostara for the same reason, I so wanted it to work for me. Also can not wear the current Eau Premiere, I have never tried the original.
I woke up at four a.m. and couldn’t go back to sleep so I got up and I’ve been reading and puttering around since. The pre-dawn sky was clear and Venus was beautiful. Now prepping for a day full of driving and I’m wearing Jour d’Hermes.
Venus is very bright at the moment, isn’t it? I was looking just a few minutes ago…funny how that works, puts the size of the earth into perspective
With wanton disregard for the community project and the 96-deg high for the day, I’m wearing Trayee, of which I now own a travel spray!!!!!! Squeeeeeeeeeeee. So much for a no-buy. (But come on, I get paychecks now! Don’t I deserve a present?)
Paychecks are truly a wonderful thing. Enjoy!
Thanks I’m about to get my third one tomorrow! My bank account has a shocking amount of money in it. It feels really weird.
Of course you do!
For sure! And you smell lovely.
I really do! *preen*
You smell woooonderful! (And of course you deserve a present–especially since it meant I also got a present!)
I smell like chai now after having worn it for 10 h
You absolutely do!
When I finally landed a great job after a long period of shaky employment, I celebrated by buying a perfume I loved at a price point that would have made me pee myself before I got my job (and still kinda made me feel that way anyway, let’s be real). I figured: I’ve been so stressed about work and paychecks for so long, now that I can relax a bit, I’m going to spoil myself.
I’m glad you did and that the instability is now gone!
SOTD is Copal Azur. This stuff lasts forever! I have the tiniest decant that I’ve been slowly using for 2 years now.
Today’s tea: Vanilla white chai.
That photo is great. Reminds me of tangerine slices.
Twins! Copal Azur is lovely (and potent). And I had a chai latte too!
I missed Ari’s launch party , but thanks to the gorgeous WendySue, I’m trying out the delicious Arielle Shoshana today!
Yes, I do like it! I was a bit apprehensive about trying it, tbh, because fruity scents don’t always work well for me. But AS keeps its cheerful, upbeat vibe to the end. AS, along with Bombay Bling, are two of the happiest scents I know. Ari did good!!
My daughters birthday today, she woke me up at 530 this morning to remind me, in case I forgot, lol. It’s very humid and expecting storms. Sotd is Cristalle, so so beautiful that it makes me feel beautiful. Thank you again to a generous NSTer:) Ulta sent me a 20 percent off, good on fragrance. Decisions, decisions……
So cute that your daughter is excited about her birthday.
I wore Cristalle yesterday. You smell lovely.
That’s adorable happy birthday to her!
Happy birthday to your daughter! And you smell lovely.
5:30!! But happy birthday to Lillyjo Jr.
May you and your daughter both enjoy her special day!
I have a fair number of summery scents, since I tend toward green and probably lighter fragrances. Only recently did I add beachy items, which can be salty or lush tropical (Terracotta!) I wish my husband wore his At the Beach 1966 more…it is fabulous on him. Guess I’ll just steal it.
Today is sample day, though – courtesy of ElisaP. Carthusia Fiori di Capri. The carnation is strong in this one. Enjoying it immensely. Wondering if something named after Capri could be anything but summer. Never been there, but I just think of it as summer….
You smell great! Fiori di Capri is so pretty.
I’m wearing Aqua Allegoria Rosa Pop today. Actually wearing it.. didn’t walk off and forget like I did the other day. It’s pretty much just a skin scent now.
I’m expecting a perfume package today. I used an Amazon gift card that I’d almost forgotten about. While I mostly bought non-perfume stuff, I added a few al-Rehab perfume oils to the order. I’d never tried anything from that house, and I haven’t really explored Middle Eastern perfumes aside from the couple of Amouages that I’d tried. They were pretty cheap too, so that helped. I’m excited to see how they are.
I always am tempted to add some of those to my order since they’re so cheap but there are so many. Do report back on the ones you got!
Perhaps my first oil misfire? I took a wee half sample of cafe v into oil, as it was too heavy and intense for me (which usually means will be a brilliant oil) but this seemed a little grumbly. Then I put on a little intoxicated. And sunscreen. Seeing an experimental play on a beach. We were warned we will wade.
I love Cafe V but I find that on me it smells like everything about a coffee shop EXCEPT the coffee, if that makes sense. I get the warmth and the gourmand-ness (chocolate and vanilla especially) and that bit of skunky humidity described in the copy, but actual, dead on coffee? Nope. So odd!
I hope the experimental play is fun and that it’s a good day for wading!
La Pluie at the moment. A very balanced, ethereal scent , a little bit winsome ( unlike my winter uniform of big sorels, leopard skin coat and beanie), and I like it . Hope you all have some fun today.
You smell wonderful! Had a nice 60km bike ride and made it home before the thunderstorm.
You definitely need a chocolate eclair, or two
La Pluie is one of my summer top 10, and one of the first ‘niche ‘ perfumes I ever smelt. You smell wonderful!
I would like to try some more Miller Harris perfumes now
Good afternoon….late today!
SOTD: Lubins Kismet. Good stuff! A little dab’ll do ya though!
Other smelly news: Tried a Starbucks London Fog today and LOVE it!! WOW!!
Smelly news #2: I had mentioned that my in-laws went to Italy and brought back an Italian fragrance for me. My mom-in-law picked Acqua di Parma’s Magnolia Nobile. It’s absolutely gorgeous, but really strong sillage. Will have to wear on the small of my back or knees to keep the tuberose headache from happening. Other than that, it’s a real winner!
That’s a nice one, lucky you!
Awesome that they brought you back a perfume present! Magnolia Nobile has been on my to try list for awhile. Enjoy!
Dirty Velvet today, which is a fabulous mix of citrus and fig and something a little less tame. Kevin’s review was spot on. It is very fun to wear, even as I am at my desk trying to bang out a boring paper.
Good luck with the paper. One word at a time
Words to the wise. I am finding words on NST easier than in the paper.
Adding more good wishes! Writing is so hard sometimes.
Hi guys has anyone had a chance to try new SHL 777 Panthea or Wish Comes True? They sound like a departure from his traditional style, but both sound good!!
I liked Panthea after a bit of dabbing, but have to give it a better run. It’s definitely airier than any other SHL I’ve tried, but lovely.
I have samples of both and they are lovely. And yes they are both a real departure of Stephen Humbert Lucas’ style. His usual perfumes tend to be Middle Eastern and I love most of them. I heard he made these two in a different style because he found love and she didn’t like the potency of his line. Panthea was created just for her. If I were to buy one of them, I think it would be Panthea.
Chanel Chance Eau Tendre. Very ladylike and could easily pass for shampoo (which is a plus for my office!)
That should be a Friday project!
Morning, all. Friday, = Blissday…yesterday went well, thank goodness, and the student is through with minor amendments to be made to my satisfaction, so phew! The relief is immense. I’m celebrating by wearing my Rose de Petra, which I have decided all over again that I really do love. When I opened the Luckyscent box at Foxbin’s house, I sprayed and was immediately disappointed–had a reaction of “Really? This is it?” Fortunately, the love has returned, and my only criticism is that RdeP doesn’t have enormous longevity. That might have more to do with my skin than the perfume, though. It’s an interesting more-than-rose: a soft, slightly elusive scent of rose flowers and green leaves, hot rock and cool shadows. I’m pleased I love it again, because, well, it’s a full bottle at Stephane Humbert Lucas prices.
Be well and eat chocolate eclairs. What you fancy does you much good.
I’m so glad you fell back in love with RdP. The bottle jewel gets a thumbs down and a giggle from me, but the scent is a lovely light rose. I just need more oomph.
Hurray, you did it!
Congratulations to your student making it through the gauntlet.
I’m in a large quantity of Hermes Voyage EDT – i.e., just enough to occasionally faintly smell – and it is a freaking delight. I wore this during my Terrible One-Year Job and was afraid it would be ruined forever by association, but nope the power of Ellena has proven stronger than the power of my lousy boss. Haha!
Looking forward to seeing everybody’s summer faves tomorrow!
Oh, I love that one, too, and really need to get a small bottle of it.
Started out in Dame Monsoon, now in 3/4 Wazamba and 1/4 Jungle Elephant.
Wazamba courtesy of a generous NSTer who sent me the remainder of her bottle. I think I’m getting attached to this one. ????
Wearing a sample of vintage Caron Poivre extrait, a gorgeous rich, peppery/spicy scent! I can call this a summer scent because I like spicy scents like this one in the summer and spring when it’s warm and sunny or cool and foggy. Of course, I also like them in the fall and winter when it’s sunny, rainy, or overcast. In other words, all the time!
Byrdeo Unnamed, which is certainly not in my top 10 of anything, but I do like it more than the last time I tried it all the same. There’s something like green sugar at the start that’s kind of interesting.
Thursday’s Sedate Office Wear is Bas de Soie. Have celebrated Onion Ring Day at lunch, and might have to also celebrate Éclair Day this afternoon…
Fairly drenched (2x) in Guerlain Vetiver edt, which wears very quietly on me, and I can only smell right on my skin.
I’m going to the Broadway tour of Cabaret tonight and debating what to wear. Something a bit naughty seems in order. I wore Putain des Palaces to the last musical I saw, and Bvlgari Black to a jazz show last weekend. Either might fit the bill for tonight…
Those sound like perfect perfume/show pairings. Any suggestions for what to wear to an alternative rock concert? I have 2 coming up this summer. I’ve worn Tauer LADDM to other shows, but looking for more ideas.
I looove Cabaret! I’ve seen it twice on Broadway: the 1st time with Brooke Shields who was great, and the 2nd time with Alan Cummings ???? and Michelle Williams who I didn’t love. Good perfume choices, both. Have fun and do report back!
Last night I saw Marvin’s Room, mostly because it starred Lili Taylor and Janeane Garofalo but it was meh.
Today I’m wearing Neela Vermeire Rahele.
Musc Ravageur again today. I’m on a musc ravageur body products and perfume kick here. Also, thanks to Floragal, I bought those Ezekiel English muffins. So delicious, I toasted mine and spread on some whipped cream cheese and pastrami style smoked salmon.
Your mention of MR made me cave on a decant (from a decanter with amazing prices, but who is going out of biz). I need that English muffin outfit. And a couple of capers. Mmmm.
Back to the sample stash for today’s best of summer pick. SOTD = ELdO’s Fils de Dieu. Another one on the “You should get some” list.
Kpaint and Barqs, my SOTD from yesterday, the Alaia, lasted between 9 and 12 hours on me. I do not have perfume-eating skin, so that’s about average.
Staying cool (ha) in Las Vegas ???? this week. I brought with me 2 decants from super lovely NSTers – No. 19 EDP and PdN Week-end. These are great here in the heat. Saw Brooks and Dunn with Reba last night. Smelled Angel in the wild. I always smell Angel at large venues. Works well in large crowds! Ordered a bottle of Angel Oil from Sephora. Have a great day!????
Oh, have a great time in Vegas! I love reading about travel adventures. It sounds like your nose is still on the job!
I chose Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate this morning, but it has completely disappeared. I think I’ll put on CdG Rhubarb when I get home to figure out which I prefer.
Oy, Inwas annoyed by Kate Moss and spent the time spewing and ended up not posting to SOTD!
Wednesday’s SOTD. = Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant
Every household should have a bottle.
Today’s SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’Eau
Goodies received yesterday:
– Aftelier Curious. I wore a dot of the parfum and…it smelled like green rubber exhaust. Need to retry.
– A Chanel package! Those who had received a Chanel package knows Chanel makes it an absolute JOY to open it. First, the outside of the box is plain white with nary a clue that it is CHANEL – very smart! There’s a perforated pull tab so you don’t have to find a sharp object or break a fingernail in your haste to get to the contents. The inside of the mailer box has CHANEL printed so now your beart skips a beat. Then there’s sturdy white and black box with CHANEL emblazzoned on the top cover. Upon opening the lid, you see a black samples pouch with the CHANEL logo .and then finally, the item* you’ve been waiting for is nestled atop a nest of shredded paper. This is Package Porn at its finest!
* Chanel No. 5 Hair Mist Limited Edition
Just to annoy you a bit further……………
This ad was a billboard on I-95 North, the Philadelphia/Bucks County border for a year, 1993-94.
I was always surprised there was no controversy.
Cheers, hajusuuri !!
Aaaaaargh…she would have been 20 in that picture, certainly old enough but probably weighed 60 pounds soaking wet. Sick sick sick!
I still look like that and I am 54 and ten stone!
Greetings all my beautifully scented friends! Today it was hot and humid in my part of the Old Dominion so perfect for Tom Ford Sahara Noir. I find frankincense and myrrh comforting in the heat.
Someone yesterday mentioned a combo of Beach body oil and Eau des Merveilles so that’s what I’m in.
It’s sure taken the edge off the day; I can almost smell the beach from here. May have to get a bottle of EdM.
