Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Tina Fey's birthday and International Museum Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L’Artisan Parfumeur Séville à l’Aube, which really has no more than a whisper of green.
Reminder: 5/19 will be Huesday on Friday, episode 2...wear a fragrance inspired by Pantone's Color of the Year for 2017, Greenery. You do not have to wear a green fragrance — be as creative as you like with the theme! "Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate." (Huesday was originally suggested by TheGoddessRena and Olenska, and you can see episode 1 here.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Reeking havoc a la Holly in epic proportions as I have returned to work and my desk is full of samples..green and violet today in-
some I am sampling so that I can pass them on to family members who I know will love them….boy do I “stink” in the most lovely way.
And the Safari lasted well into the night on my skin and was blooming gloriously on my bathrobe this morning…what a beauty!!!!
keep calm and reek on!
peace love light xxoo
Wow. That’s incredible sampling. You must smell wonderful.
I hope I do-LOL! thus far no coworker has complained
Is Safari still in production? Or is yours a sample from a vintage bottle? I am kind of interested in trying this one since so many here on NST have sung its praises. And the lasting power seems phenomenal…
Safari is still in production but I know it has been reformulated. I honestly don’t know if my sample was vintage or contemporary, EDT,EDP or perfume (I am guessing the perfume based on its longevity as well as the drydown being sweet which is what I remember my Safari perfume to be when I wore it in the early 1990s…it was not as sharp as the EDT to my nose). I am hoping that the “Safari” experts will chime in!!!!
Your sample is 1990 EdP.
Thank you, my dear!!!!
OK folks…HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND vintage EDP or the perfume as the release date of Safari was indeed 1990.
Many thanks! It’s now on my never ending list =)
I have tried several version of Safari and can say that the more modern stuff has less longevity (on me, at least) but still smells pretty darn good.
My favorite bottle (oh dear, did I even say that? at last count, I owned three full bottles and three minis ) is the 2/3 full one sold on ebay as “vintage” and labeled as “cologne” – it lasts for hours and has a lovely depth I can’t pin down, despite the three minutes of hairspray aroma at first. The parfum is not my favorite, because it is a little sweet for my taste.
But. As I say, they’re all good IMO.
Good to Know, Thanks!
OK, now I need to pull out my bottle of Safari and see how old it is….always smells good.
I love Iris Poudre..How do you find it?
Iris Poudre is gorgeous….as is the Carnal Flower which I was expecting to be a bit off putting…but my favorite from the line of the four I have thus sampled (En Passant we tried in the store on paper and the SA gave my girlfriend a sample of that) is still Eau d”Hiver.
I have no idea why this happened, but I have a manufacturer’s sample of Eau d’hiver which I have loved, but I bought a FB of it and can’t smell it at all.
Oh goodness! It would have been much better the other way around!!!!
Good gracious, that is some bouquet your scents make. I bet it smells fascinatingly good!
It does to me but others may beg to differ
Nobile 1942 La Danza delle Libellule today.
Apple, Vanilla and cinnamon.
Perfect for a warm day and my last day of work before vacation
Yum to your fragrance and enjoy your vacation!
Vacation, Apple, Cinnamon, Vanilla! You’re killing me with goodness =)
Seriously, if you haven’t tried this one, I cannot say enough about it.
I am wearing the original version, not the Exceptionelle ( extrait) which I find flat. This one dances on your skin
“Show me the power child, I’d like to say, that I’m down on my knees today” RIP Chris Cornell. Haven’t put on a sotd yet because I’m still watching Soundgarden videos. Although I still smell faintly of the Poison Girl edt I tried out at Macy’s yesterday.
My co-teacher and I just serenaded a class of 10th grade students with a full rendition of “Hunger Strike”. They were very scared. RIP Chris Cornell.
That’s really touching that you guys did that.
That is awesome!
Great song by a great band spawned during a great time in music history. What a wonderful way to introduce a younger generation to this sound =)
That just made my day, sistine.
Soundgarden was part of the soundtrack of my adolescence–RIP Chris Cornell.
Me too. My heart dropped when I saw this today. I had Soundgarden on autoshuffle for at least a year straight back in the day. RIP.
I was so stunned this morning when I read the news. What a voice! and if I’m honest, I have to say I’ve always been envious of his hair. I will be reliving my grunge years today in his honor.
I always wanted that long corkscrew rock ‘n’ roll hair.
RJP Chris Cornell.
I’m right there with you lillyjo. So sad.????
SAY WHAT WHAT WHAT NOW?????
WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT????
I know. That was my reaction when I first heard, too. ????
Heck of a way to find out. Just…
He gave a lot, and I am so sorry his depression took him.
I know, I was stunned.
I hadn’t heard. Sad news.
I saw the news on Twitter this morning and was in utter disbelief for a little bit, thinking that can’t be real. I have his last solo album in the CD player in my car. Soundgarden was kind of a formative band for me, from my high school grunge days in the ’90s. Superunknown is still a favorite album, so I’m listening to that on Spotify now.
A couple of friends of mine actually met Chris Cornell a couple years ago (or maybe it was last year.. I don’t remember exactly). They are big tennis fans and go to the Miami Open tournament every year. They met him there, and he signed their giant tennis ball that they always get for players’ autographs.
One of my favorites today, Bel Ami Vetiver by Hermes.
Oh, you smell great!
Thank you! I’ve never tried Séville à l’Aube, but from the reviews seems pretty nice.
SotD: Tauer Verdant. Green, leather and dirt. There is something old-growth green about this scent. I am a little sorry that I didn’t buy a bottle when it was available.
That sounds really interesting!
Same here, that was a great scent…wish it would join the travel size line.
Love that one!!! I’m with Robin, waiting for a re-issue.
I’m Robin’s house cousin – I’m wearing Caligna. I took it with me to Greece two years ago and it reminds me of one of my best vacations ever. It seems like a light, citrine kind of green to me.
Hey cousin! Nice choice.
I wore Caligna last night! I find it very relaxing. You smell great and nice to have such a good association with it.
I love that scent’s bath gel, I bought and am rationing a bottle from ebay
I’m in the seriously lovely Un Cœur en Mai. A soft and pillowy green.
Oh, and I have not worn that this month! I will have to dig out my sample.
SOTD is Cartier Baiser Vole. A fresh lily with distinct green notes.
Very nice! I almost wore this today
You smell wonderful.
My SOTD is Mandarino by Monotheme (Libro degli Agrumi of Monotheme).
I’m in Caleche today. If I can unearth my sample of Monsillage Eau de Celeri, I’ll wear it tomorrow. Happy hang-in-there Thursday!
Oh yes, great idea! Love Eau de Celeri but forgot I had some.
Random perfume smell from handling a lot of older samples (to log into my New Spreadsheet). I was recently treated for a longstanding sinus infection and now that it’s clear I’ve found myself super sensitive to many smells (especially some top notes & Iso E Super–like a drill to the frontal lobe) — however I’ll probably sample a dab or two of Il Profumo Vanille Bourbon in a bit.
I love that random perfume smell, it makes me smile when I open a box of samples. Glad your sniffer is in the clear. “Drill to the frontal lobe” made me laugh. That’s exactly the way some white musk feels to my nose.
I store the majorityof my samples in a plastic gelato container that has a screw top lid. Whenever I open it, it’s such a wonderful smell. Maybe I should pour all of the samples into an atomizer and see what happens. ????????
ha! You reminded me of childhood perfume experiments conducted at my grandmother’s house. She had so many bottles of perfume and would let me mix spritzes of them in the little pink plastic Dixie cups she kept by her bathroom sink. Oh, the stink, but I thought it was heaven.
You’re right about that smell when the lid comes off the box of samples, it’s a delight.
Lol, I did the same thing in my aunt’s sink. I distinctly remember trying to use the cap for Shalimar edc as a barbie hat. Didn’t fit….
I’d buy a full bottle of something that smelled like Sephora’s when you first walk in the door
If Sephora could figure out a way to bottle that smell I’d buy it too.
Ha definitely would be a great one! Eau de All the Perfumes.
I put all my used sample vials in a velvet pouch and it smells glorious!
I’m keeping my used sample vials in a small box in my closet… it smells wonderful in there!
Black hole sun won’t you come, and wash away the rain……
RIP Chris Cornell
Early morning workout in my hot and humid backyard! !
I’m loving it!
Triple strength coffee.
Tendre Poison Christian Dior, galbanum, orange blossoms, vanilla, and a whisper of the original Poison beneath.
501s update-they are actually 40 years old. My Mother reinforced the thighs in the ’70s.
I will wear them all summer long. LOL
Tomorrow is promised to no one.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Vintage 501s – I’m envious!
Bear, you are making everyone envious that you can still fit into your jeans from 40 years ago…lookin’ and smellin’ good
Bear, your posts always make me smile- Thank You!
Tender Poison has always been my favorite of the line. You smell wonderful!
Super-impressed you can wear those Levis, Bear! I think I may be able to unearth something approaching ‘vintage’ status from my closet, if I look. But I don’t think I wanna. ????
1) Wow! Your mom did the right thing!
2) Tomorrow is promised to no one.- Amen to this! So thank you for posting when you do- it makes the warmer, brighter, sunnier.
Thank you Everyone !!
I appreciate that YOUSE (a Philly thing I think) all appreciate my stream of consciousness postings !
Oh my, what a great Poison pairing! I may have to try that one. *Leaning in*..
You can make me your triple strength coffee any day!
Happy birthday Tina Fey! I chose Chanel Cristalle EDP today – our weather is finally turning sunnier and warmer, and Cristalle feels just right. Plus, Mr. G approves. Bonus!
Twins!! But I think mine is an EDT.
I’m wearing Serge Lutens A la nuit today!
That kitty looks like a mini mountain lion! Beautiful and you smell Great =)
Thanks for the kind words, she died last March at the age of 22, I posted something on here, everyone was so nice with their support.
She looked so young, she was skinny bc of her prescription food, she looked like a kitten. She was so beautiful, and she had a great personality.
I’ve been wearing A la nuit for ten years, they didn’t change the formula it still smells exactly the same but just lighter, it doesn’t last as long as it used to be… you have to reapply throughout the day.
Oh, so sorry for your loss! Keeping her as your avatar is wonderful way of memorializing your time together ????
Very, very busy this week. Coffee is not even working for me anymore. Wearing Hermes Un Jardin Sur le Toit from the swapmeet, (thanks Hajusuuri!) Green and perfect for this super hot and humid day, but no complaints. I am really loving it!
I am going to wear that tomorrow!
Thank you very much!
You smell gorgeously green
You’re happy, I’m happy, good news all around
No scent yet, I’m headed out to Sephora today and I’m saving my wrists for there. Trying to make the most of my days off this week.
So shocked to turn on the tv today and hear the news of Chris Cornell. As a gen x-er who came of age in the late 80’s and early 90’s, grunge was the soundtrack of my early adulthood. I first saw Soundgarden in the summer of 1992 at Alpine Valley Wisconsin. When they took the stage, the crowd went nuts! People literally started ripping up the side of the hill that led down to the stage and started throwing sod. I had dirt everywhere…my hair, the pocket of my shirt, in my Birkenstocks. It was surreal, and it was incredible.
RIP beautiful man.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful memory. Enjoy Sephora.
I have seen CC at a number of concerts over the years, but that one in particular sounds WONDERFUL! I think some of my class mates at Ripon were probably there.
SOTD is BoE with a bit of Tauer’s Amber Flush oil in my hair.
I did a little whirlwind ordering of some samples earlier in the week from LuckyScent since I had a free shipping code (great rationalization, Deva!). I’ve been feeling a bit lost, fragrance wise, without all my little lovelies languishing away at home in Florida. BoE has been a real blessing and I’m glad a purchased a FB because I think I will get tons of use from it and the cost/benefit analysis in my head makes it a completely rational purchase.
I’m sampling some I have been wanting to try for quite a while including: 4160 Tuesdays Sunshine and Pancakes as well as Maxed Out, Aroma M Geisha Vanilla Hinoki, SHL Taklamakan and Mortal Sin, the new Tauer L’eau as well as Vetiver Dance, Alahine!!!, and last but not lease, Vero Naja! I’m a little afraid of Naja, because if I fall for her like I fell for Onda, I may be financially doomed. Also bought a Tauer soap and a small 30ml bottle of Vetyver from PdN. which I have sampled a few times and have never forgotten. These should ease my perfume pangs for a good long while =)
One I really wanted to try but couldn’t remember the house or fragrance name was the tea centric one in the “elephant” bottle that I think both Robin, Chocolatemarzipan8, and a few others seemed to really enjoy. Haven’t heard it mentioned recently, but if anyone can figure out which one I’m talking about and remembers the name, please enlighten me.
Happy almost Friday Day!
Berdoues Assam of India
and it is FANTASTIC in hot weather!!!
and cold weather too which amps up the sandalwood on my skin (in hot weather it is more of a citrus scent to me)
That’s it! Thanks ????
Sephora just started carrying this line, btw.
Luckyscent is not carrying Assam of India. I can send you some if you want. firstname.lastname@example.org
That’s so generous of you, but I think I have enough coming my way to keep me busy for a bit. I will make a real notation of the house and name (versus a “mental note,” which never works for me????) and add to my list. Thanks much!
That Amber Flush would smell amazing in hair!
It’s also helps my super dry and frizzy hair look less like a Brillo pad ????
whispers … not to enable or anything, but Luckyscent always does free shipping with promo code NST.
Sounds like you have a wonderful haul coming your way!
Are you kidding?? =0
I had no clue, thanks!! (I think! ;))
I’m sure I’ve completely overlooked it myself in the past, but their ad and the one for Parfum1 (also free shipping) are both located here on NST.
Still sleepy today! I saw Shonen Knife last night and they were incredible. The last time they were in Houston, they opened for Nirvana in ’93, but let me tell you, they rocked it out! Of course that means I got little sleep.
Picked vintage Diorella today. Maybe not as plain green as Greenery but close. I really need to get a big bottle of this.
I get regular emails from one of my local concert venues and saw yesterday that Shonen Knife are coming to town. I was like, “Whaaa–? Cooool.”
I highly recommend it! They were incredible. It was so hot in the venue but they were troopers. I wish I’d brought more cash because I wanted to support them!
Watching videos this morning- as madtowngirl stated, the soundtrack of my teenage years. RIP Chris Cornell.
I am in Lonesome Rider. My uncle (my mother’s brother) lived in Central Florida when I was growing up but traveled a lot roping and riding in the rodeo circuit. He always had horses and we would spend a week or two with him in the summer. He had a lot of land we would ride on and so this scent always makes me think of orange groves and horses and saddles. That’s the only real green I get from it- orange groves and palmetto of my youth. :::sigh:::
Great memory. Thanks for passing it along.
Great memories of Old School Florida! And orange groves in bloom are so intoxicating…
What a great association to have. I go to the rodeo every year and have a real fascination with working cowboys. And ropers in particular always amaze me – they must spend countless hours practicing, and I love the interaction between them and their horses. It’s definitely teamwork!
Yes, he was amazing to watch! He always had many horses, but we could NEVER ride his rodeo horse, Rebel. Rebel was too much horse for us kids- too high strung and spirited. Only my uncle could ride him. He lived to be about 24 and my uncle was devastated when he died. Their bond was beautiful.
Another fan of horses and riding … here’s a video that I hope my fellow geeks will enjoy:
Wearing Smell Bent Green Patchouli today. I rarely wear patchouli forward fragrances to work, since one of my staff always says I’m showing my age, wearing such a hippie fragrance. However, I wanted to wear something different today. I am totally lost over what to do tomorrow – go with something totally green, or something that reminds me of the spring that is heading into summer so quickly.
Scent twins!!! I sprayed the top of my right hand with that one…I have worn dark patchouli oil straight up and not care a bit what co-workers think (even when they say I smell of mushrooms!)
Un jardin sur le nil from a sample one of you lovely NST-ers sent me. I like it a lot and it is green and appropriate for my library which is hot, humid and jungle-like. Twice a year someone has to come out to my school and get on the roof to change the temperature in the library. Such an efficient system.
One of my summer favorites You smell lovely!
Le Temps d’une Fete today.
Love to everybody missing Chris Cornell.
So lovely …
I’m in Azemour today. Nothing else would do for this breathless, muggy day. It’s not quite the right color green, but it’s one of the few scents I have that makes me think in color.
That’s a recent discovery for me, and one of the few fbw out of the um, hundreds I’ve sampled over the last couple of months. You smell fantastic!
I decided it wasn’t “greenery” either, but who cares, you smell fantastic.
Just 5 more school days! FIVE!!! FIVE!!! Then we can slow down for a few weeks….
SOTD: Atelier Pomèlo Paradis. Perfect for the heat and humidity…..
Here we’re at 5 weeks of school left, sigh.
We can do it!
You smell fabulous.
My son is so excited, Jada. He has the rest of this week and just finals next week and then he will be a senior.
Good times!!! After next week, I’ll have a Junior, 8th grader, and 6th grader. It’s all going by way too fast!
Hang in there! Hooray for Summer Vacation!
Chanel No. 19 lotion and edt.
You smell wonderful.
You smell GREAT.
How is the lotion? I’m tempted.
It’s very nice. The lotion absorbs into my skin very quickly.
Yes to all of the above.
Today I’m in Aqua Sextius from Jul et Mad. I just wanted to wear it today – then realized that it fits Greenery pantone. Not only the juice is green but there also also some green notes in it as well.
Maybe I should repeat it tomorrow?
Oh I have to pull out my sample of that. You smell great.
Thank you. Aqua Sextius is a very wearable one.
SOTD is Marc Jacobs Cocktail Splash Ginger. To me this is not green, but a sparkling, rhubarb pink.
RIP Chris Cornell. I’m too young to have seen any grunge bands in their heyday (born in ’91), but the beauty of being a music lover in this particular era is that the whole world of concert recordings and videos are just a few clicks away. Amazing.
It has gone from too cold to too hot in the space of 2 days, sigh. Wearing Eau de Magnolia while I continue with spring cleaning.
We’re about to be joining you. It’s been cold enough to use the wood stove the past several nights, but is supposed to be well into the 80’s tomorrow. Yeesh.
you smell wonderful! I need to pull out this perfume to wear soon, thanks for the reminder.
We’ve gone from just right to too cold down here. Will have to slather my body in Deep Heat if it keeps up.
Vintage Fracas and a dab of By Kilian Beyond Love. Yum!!
mmm Fracas. I may have to join you in that.
Fracas twin! You smell great.
Vert pivoine , has green in the name
Which means it gets points!
SotD = Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger* from a sample
After an initial moment of Infusion d’Iris-like airiness, this one settles into a soft, pretty orange blossom. I was expecting some green-ness, but none so far.
*Also known as Les Infusions de Prada Fleur d’Oranger eau de parfum. Yay for word salad.
Update: this scent kept making me think of my kids when they were small. Just realized I smell a bit like orange baby aspirin, but in a good way.
Yes, baby aspirin!
My SOTD is Delrae Mythique. I don’t usually like iris scents but there’s something gentle about this one. Maybe I just like the woody twist it has. Our Houston weather is quickly morphing into summer with hot humid days. This one should be nice for today.
That one is so pretty!
I’m in No. 19 Poudre—just okay right now.
It is a very pretty scent that feels like this https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1oQOaRXXXXXbtaXXXq6xXFXXXb.jpg
but I feel like this
Now I am trying think what would have been a more appropriate perfume for the morning.
LOL! The second picture is me most days!
omg! Dying laughing over here! we needed that, thanks =)
Oh lord, that was hysterical!
Thanks for that!! ????
Okay, that seriously made me LOL
Thanks for the smiles.
Yup, 2nd picture was my afternoon.
Small rant ** why are co-workers so oblivious to their own glaring errors? They aren’t responsible enough to double check their work and do it right the first time, so I have to find/fix their mistakes and then re-upload the corrections. What should take 5 minutes takes 2 extra hours.. 5 days off in a row are going to be great!
Today I am following the green theme and wearing BPAL single note Oakmoss Accord. Does what it says on the bottle, which is to smell very strongly of oakmoss!
Then you must smell great
RIP Chris Cornell. He really struggled in his life.
SOTD DS & Durga Debaser. Juicy, green fig and perfect for this hot day.
I love green, especially when it warms up. Mito Monday, Vert de Fleur Tuesday, Corsica Furiosa Wednesday, and today? Still thinking. Maybe Tokyo Bloom as it is hot hot hot again today here.
1) Crap. I JUST found out about CC when I logged on to work! I was a teen in the 90s, so the big grunge/alt rock bands and hip hop acts really shaped what I heard and some of my aesthetic. Chris Cornell had an INCREDIBLE stage presence and a voice that could soar as well as any opera singer ), and sometimes even better (4 octaves, yo!) He fronted
2) Am in Infusion d”Iris Iris Vetiver- perfect for a lovely warming spring day in the Pacific Northwest. Chris would have loved it. today- green and warm and filled with flowers. The seas are calm, and the whales are coming back to feed and give birth.
I’ve got a sample of that vetiver on deck to try. Glad to hear it’s green. Maybe tomorrow will be the day.
It will be perfect!
Today is my “Friday” thank goodness. I think everyone in the office is trying to test my patience as much as possible by bombarding me with the most stupid of issues. Also, a pipe busted in the men’s room…. ugh. This week has been long and tiring and really trying to run me down. All because I’m about to go on a long vacation far away from all this madness.
I WILL NOT BE BROKEN!
I’m in a liberal spraying of Eau de Merveilles.
With EdM on your side, you’ve totally got this. Have you considered spritzing perfume AT people as they approach you? Heh, just kidding, but I’ve had that impulse once in a while.
You’ve reminded me of a work friend who had the plaque on her desk that says, “I can only help one person today. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn’t look good either.”
Enjoy your vacation. Hope it’s fabulous and fragrant.
Ha! I need to consider seriously that perfume approach here at work, with maybe…. Secretions Magnifique
You smell fab! Keep going. Your day is almost over and then…you will FLY AWAY!
Safe journey and enjoy every minute….and report back when you return!!
Your vacation is going to be sweeeet when it comes–hang in there until then!
Wearing Lipstick Rose today.
That is really a great scent.
You smell fab! Keep going. Your day is almost over and then…you will FLY AWAY!
Going green with Mark Buxton Wood & Absinthe.
The universe really doesn’t want me to go into work anymore. I mostly work from home (yay!) but got in the car this morning to drive in, and the traffic report told me that the one road I must use (the only road open after this winter’s disaster rains) is closed due to a vehicle accident. So I’m back home. When the universe starts putting its signs up in neon, you really must pay attention…
You Must! How did the annual hairdresser visit go? any new outrageous color or cut?
Cut my hair to mid-back-length, and got blonder. Funny how that seems to happen with age
It’s the only option! I chopped my long hair into a short ‘do (3″ on top; clipped short everywhere else) about a year ago and discovered a HUGE white patch on the side of my head. What’s a girl to do?
Yeah, don’t ignore any neon signs from the Universe. Never a good idea.
How do you like Mark Buxton work? The handful of reviews I could find all say that the longevity and projection is really low
I like my scents quieter than you do, so this is working fine for me. It was easily scented for at least the first 4 hours; by now (7 hours after application) it’s a skin scent, but still there.
SOTD–Cristalle….hot and humid and this one is just always right. Broke my no buy rule to get samples from Andy Tauer….not too much, but had to try the new L’EAU….will report back when it arrives. I am so bad at waiting…..
You smell wonderful!
I was thinking of doing the same. As Robin noted, we’re an easy bunch.
I was too….????
I just got my sample in the mail today…!
I went a-Hollying and now have a massive headache. BUT- before the headache started, I was smitten with it. ????
Oh dear. Well, you took one for the team…for science.
SOTD = Zoologist Nightingale. This one changes a lot over time…started out very zingy, then went into the fruity floral zone (in a nice way), and an hour in, the incense takes over.
Not something I need a full bottle of, but I still have a Beaver sample to try, and Macaque to retry.
I hope everyone is having a lovely day. :-))
SOTD is AdP Magnolia Nobile EDP. Huesday has made me aware of the hole in my collection.
Old school love for MN. I love to wear it on hot summer days!
In Guerlain Terracotta on this blazing hot day.
Good pick, I should find mine.
Happy Birthday to Tina Fey, the coolest b-day buddy I could have!
The news about Chris Cornell is so sad. ????
SOTM is Fracas, my gift from my parents–woot! I’ll switch to a dab of PdN Odalisque (LOTV for May, yay!) later for dinner with a scent-sensitive relative.
Have a great Thursday, NST!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your Fracas ????
HBD scent twin!
Happy Birthday! Odalisque is a beauty.
Happy Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Isn’t 25 great?!
Enjoy your day and have a happy!
Happy birthday! You smell beautiful!
Happy Birthday Creosote !
Many more !!
Happy scented Birthday, Creosote! Waft on!
Happy Birthday, Creosote. Fracas is one of the perfumes I have an inexplicable fear of wearing.
Happy birthday over there!
Many thanks, you guys!!!
Hollying it up again today with four more samples–TF Bois Marocain, Atelier Santal Carmin, PdE Musc Tonkin, and Tauer Sotto la Luna Tuberose. I keep trying to love Musc Tonkin, this is the third or fourth time I’ve tried it, but I just don’t. MKK has my heart when it comes to musk. The other ones are okay but I won’t be buying any FBs.
I rather like being a verb! (Or at least in this particular context, anyway. ;))
Way to Reek Havoc, foxbins!
“Hollying” had now surpassed “Box of Eels,” I think!
Greening it up in Fracas (thanks to flopper!) It has always read green to me, but the green of a dark, glossy banana leaf – not any of the shades depicted above. It brings the visual image of a tropical garden after a rain: lush, green, wet.
Side note: over the past few months I’ve had a hard time wearing some of my vintage frags. Not all, but most have smelled overwhelmingly of cat fur. Not in a good way, but like I have my nose stuck to a fluffy cat with fur all over my face that I can’t get off, and that’s all I can smell.
I wasn’t sure if I suddenly became olfactorily aware of animalic notes (does animalic = face full of fur?) Since my vintage bottles smelled the same way all of a sudden, I wondered if something else was going on. I had a working theory that due to all the sinus issues I have, some olfactory receptors weren’t working properly and the ones that sense cat fur/animalic notes were working overtime.
Who knows what was going on, but Fracas was one that had become difficult to wear. Today there’s a trace of furriness but it mostly smells like it used to. *fingers crossed*
Fingers crossed for you! Such a bummer to be turned off to old loves.
That interesting re: vintage fragrances. I’ve been buying vintage – the latest were ‘1000’ and Joy, both sealed. When I first opened the bottles and smelled them, I think “is it supposed to smell like this?” They don’t smell “turned”, and eventually smell nice, but wonder what they would have been like new in the 1960s-1970s. Hope Fracas smells good for you today!
As much as I still love smelling vintage you are correct in that when they were in pristine condition with the top notes intact most of my vintage loves were glorious from start to finish….now you need to wait for the initial not so good to fade into mid and base notes as most top notes don’t survive the ravages of time.
I’m super afraid to go down the vintage rabbit hole. There’s so much current to smell and I’m afraid if I love something vintage I’ll be disappointed in the current. Thoughts?
First off, I think that there are many, many wonderful perfumes currently in production.
Some reformulations are notoriously not as good as the vintage and don’t even remotely resemble them in the least. Off the top of my head, the Caron and Dior houses have notoriously messed with their classics to ill effect, and some feel the newer Chanel Exclusifs in EdP don’t hold a candle to the previous EdT incarnations. IFRA has imposed restrictions on certain ingredients, and of course popular tastes change over time and what doesn’t sell doesn’t work for companies looking to make a profit.
Vintage is not necessarily better, it’s just different. I suspect that many people who explore vintage are vintage themselves (like me) , and are seeking familiarity and to experience what they once did and can’t find in current releases.
Like Holly said , I love vintage because I too am “vintage” (a/k/a “old”) and I also agree that there is so much excellent current stuff out there to explore …..and bear in mind that what you smell now that is vintage will smell different from what it once was 20-30 years ago when it was in pristine condition.
Hope it’s still working out for you. You smell awesome!
Kpaint, I hope I answered your question yesterday to your satisfaction… I re-read my answer and realized that I might have not gotten to the point. (Sorry.) I am not one of the resident experts on Opium, but when the bottles changed, I did notice a difference. I don’t know if the current scent is something you would like or not, so I am suggesting that you sniff now before your vintage bottle is gone. I do see a lot of the older bottles on the bay of Evil, so that is perhaps an option.
Thanks for further explanation. I’ll remember the 2010 date (maybe!) and likely buy vintage again. I did have a decant of one of the current Opium flankers – Ete something or other? and quite liked it.
As to the comments above re: buying vintage, in some cases I’ll look for older bottles so I know I’m getting the original version. I do this particularly with perfumes I already “know” (late 70s & up.) But I also buy vintage because it’s almost always cheaper!
DP Leather Man layered with his Osmanthus. Leather Man is great sharp green leather, which layers beautifully with Jeffrey’s soliflores.
You smell fantastic! I LOOOOVEEE Leather Man and think it works quite well on a woman…and yes, I agree , so many of his scents layer nicely.
Leather Man is still on my to-sniff list…
Happy to send you a sample. My email:

SOTD Masque Milano L’Attesa – really beautiful iris and two sprays are still wafting 11 hours later.
I do love L’Attesa … and Romanza … and I just sampled Tango yesterday and love that one too.
You have “found” your “house”
The MM scents sound so intriguing-I should see if they offer a sample set.
You smell great. I love love love l’Attesa.
RIP Chris Cornell. Stunning and sad.
SOTD is Anais Anais L’Original. I don’t wear it often. A little powdery for my taste, I guess. Maybe I need to try layering it with something.
Very happy Museum Day! I used to work in museums and I once had to help pluck the feathers off an slightly rotten emu skin prior to attaching them to a fibreglass moa body…what a job. I’ll be working in Auckland Museum all next week, looking for information about scented alpine plants. Often when you come down off the snow you get a big hit of green scent from Celery Pines.
Florists Fridge today. Feels like a fridge here . As soon as the sun rises I’ll go out and see if we have snow on the hills.
Happy museum day to you too! I have a master’s degree in paleontology and spent my time earning it working in a museum. Having access to the proper collections is the best. No rotten feather stories though thanks to working solely with things that had been dead so long they turned into rocks. I love museums.
Do people think you’re an archaeologist? Because they sure do tend to think archaeologists are paleontologists! ???????? No fossils in my museum experiences while studying, but I did get to handle some Ancient Egyptian artifacts.
YES I got that all the time! Woe to those who don’t know the difference between paleontology and archaeology! It’s like, okay people, no, I can’t tell you anything about mummified human remains in Egypt, but HOLD ONTO YOUR BUTTS I hope you like hearing about Pleistocene horse teeth!
Tell us more!
Pleistocene horse teeth?! Cool! Yay for dentition!
People just mistake me for an old fossil
Oh, you! No way–you smell too good, for one thing.????
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say researching scented alpine plants is infinitely preferable to plucking feathers from rotten emu skin. ????
Good morning, all. I was writing a post about the gorgeous 31 Rue Cambon and why it is perfect for the day ahead, went to get a cup of tea, and came back just in time to see Dakkie settle down sitting half on the iPad. When I wrenched it out from under him, my post had disappeared. Bother! Anyway, as you will have seen, I’m in 31, and though I say it myself, I smell heavenly. I don’t know that I would call 31 green, exactly, but it isn’t pink. Or gold. Or any of the fire colours. I’ll say it’s greenly chypre coloured, or the reverse: chyprely green. One of its greatest attributes is its adaptability: it dresses all the way down to jeans and a shirt and all the way up to black velvet–I know this, because I have bought a BV dress (yes, I do know I’m hopelessly extravagant sometimes) to wear for my birthday dinner next week, and though I plan to buy La Pausa, I will wear 31, just ‘cos….hey, be well and safe, all.
that is a accurate description of 31RC
Go girl, rock that dress!
Funny, to me 31RC was plush purple velvet and chocolate: I gave my decant away. Enjoy your birthday dinner!
You smell simply marvelous! 31RC works with whatever you’re wearing.
Bendel Pink Vetiver & Grapefruit for me with a spritz of California Reverie on top. Was out and about this morning and early afternoon…I admit to loving the heat. Not too humid. If summer stayed like this, I’d be fine.
Me too … it beats shivering in May!
Work has kept me too busy to post much this week, but I’ve been green smelling every day. Today’s green is D.S. & Durga Debaser. Yesterday was CB I Hate Perfume Memory of Kindness absolute. And Tuesday was Apoteker Tepe Anabasis. I love green perfumes and have a lot of them. It’s definitely one of my favorite genres, from green florals to green chypres and beyond.
Oh I almost did Anabasis this morning. Perhaps tomorrow.
I apparently have more greens than I thought! One green I love which I will not wear tomorrow, no no no in the heat, is Chypre Mousse!
Yay, I love Tina Fey! Happy birthday to her. I’m in the glorious Lonesome Rider on my fourth day of work, probably one of the last days I can wear perfume to work before I have to follow clean room rules. I also can’t wear cosmetics, and after looking around, I see that none of my female (or male) colleagues wear make-up. Oh well, I don’t really like wearing make-up anyway.
Wow. IIRC, you work in a lab? Would the use of fragrance and cosmetics compromise your work? Curious as to the rational for this. Labs are generally well vented, no?
I do work in a lab! And in general, you’re right–there’s no problem wearing cosmetics and some fragrance. But I’ve just started working in the semiconductor industry, and when making chips, you have to be careful not to let even the teeniest particles get on the wafers, or you can end up with defects. As a result, the wafers have to be made and processed in cleanrooms, which have a reduced the level of particulate matter in the air. This is partly managed by having workers wear bunny suits (silly-looking coveralls), hairnets, face masks, gloves, and no make-up/volatiles
SOTD and green-inspired perfume #4 is Maria Candida Gentile “Barry Lyndon”.
Top: Green notes and grass;
Mid: artemisia, heather and arnica;
Base: vetiver, vanilla and leather.
I liked this one – it goes on fresh with, I thought, a touch of mint (not listed as a note), then fades away quite quickly, then comes back as a lovely dry-down that reminded me a bit of Miksado or Bois Sacre. On my skin, longevity and projection are not great.
I need to try that one again, it did not make as much of an impression on me as I expected.
It’s unseasonably warm here (though not too humid, thankfully), and I’m wearing a few dabs of something I mixed up myself. It’s mostly lavender and mint, and doesn’t have any base notes, so its life on my skin is fairly short, but it smells refreshing while it lasts.
I’m planning to wear a proper perfume tomorrow. I’ve certainly got plenty of “greens” in my cupboard to choose from!
SOTD: vintage Ma Griffe EDT for s burst of green gardenia on a cold grey day.
Oh, nice — have not worn that in ages!
Uuuuuggggghhhhh! Posting so late today. What a day full of blah. It’s an Ozone Action Day here, which means there’s enough around to be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Yuk.
RIP Chris Cornell. Soundgarden was part of the sound track of my college days, and my young adulthood before I got married. What a shock.
SOTD = honey-lemon cough drops, and more sprays of Opium EdT.
Sorry for the day full of blah!
SOTD = PdE Corsica Furiosa
Decant courtesy of a swap with dear Deva. It’s my first wearing of it and I think I ised just the right amount (5 spritzes from a 15 mL atomkzer so that’s probably rhe equivalent of 3 short sprays from a FB). It’s green, green, nutty, somewhat oudy with a refreshing citrus top. I quite like it!
Now I’m off to read what everyone else wore today. It was hellishly hot today in NYC. Where’s Fall other than at the Sothern Hemisphere?
I meant to say Robin that I love today’s picture.
I was thinking how lovely that would be if it was the wall of my house
I had no time to comment today but wore a summer favorite, Cristalle. So lovely.
Yes it is!
SOTD is Guerlain Lys Soleia. Kind of a yellow-ish, beachy scent, really. There might be a hint of green in there somewhere. It’s starting to warm up in NW Arkansas.
Yellow-green, reminiscent of spring? My SOTD for Huesday has to be Penhaligon’s Ostara! It is one of the few scents for which I have a backup bottle, especially as it has been discontinued (why??). It really does capture the fragrance of my top favorite flower, daffodils.
