Wednesday scent of the day 5/17

Posted by Robin on 17 May 2017 229 Comments

Tilia americana

Hey, it's Hump Day! It's also World Hypertension Day, so do watch that blood pressure. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing the slightly green and very "first days of spring" La Chasse aux Papillons by L'Artisan Parfumeur.

Reminder: 5/19 will be Huesday on Friday, episode 2...wear a fragrance inspired by Pantone's Color of the Year for 2017, Greenery. You do not have to wear a green fragrance — be as creative as you like with the theme! "Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate." (Huesday was originally suggested by TheGoddessRena and Olenska, and you can see episode 1 here.)

Pantone Greenery

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

        There is a body milk!!
Originally, I had hoped for a body butter as the texture of the POAL and Carnal Flower body butter is amazing, but I now think the milk is the perfect format for the scent.
The body milk smells just like the EDP, and lasts forever. I highly recommend it.

    |’m in deep green: Ormonde Woman, which I haven’t worn in ages. Such a wonderful and unique scent.

I love your choice of image for today and your choice of fragrance. I got me a solid of La Chasse a few weeks ago. It was dirt cheap, and it’s lovely.

    Robin, you smell great.
I’m in Iris Nazarena today – very liberally sprayed. I finished up one of the travel set vials this morning. You know when you see you only have a little left and think – why not – and just keep spraying all over until it’s done? That’s what I did.

You smell lovely. Boldly spraying the last vestiges of a perfume is a great idea. It’s a variation on going through all the samples, but you know you will like what you end up wearing.

    Something old….something new…..

On right arm is Safari…..not sure what concentration as the sample does not say…the last time I wore this was in the early 1990s…I had drained the second of my parfum bottle (never wore the EDT)….the drydown of this one is extraordinarily sublime and transports me back to another time, another place. For this reason alone I am not sure I would be seeking out a full bottle in the future but I am enjoying its breathtaking beauty right at this moment.

On my left arm is SSS Pacific Forest…dumped 2/3 of what was left in the vial on my entire arm..this one is very sweet to my nose and has an almost edible quality….there is a juiciness to it….at least that is how my wonky nose interprets it…I will have to go and research the notes now!

    Keep calm and reek on!

    peace love light xxoo

Well, my nose isn’t that far off…this is what I found researching the notes online….

“I wanted to create an all-natural version of the Forest Walk scent…using similar natural wood notes but grounding them with a mellow all-natural amber base” yet something else entirely came out with the second aspect missing.

“This scent features prominent fir and hemlock spruce notes along with three kinds of cedar, pine, oakwood, oakmoss, and sandalwood” making the woods much “livelier” than Forest Walk, meaning I don’t see just woods and tree trunks, instead with leafs fully intact, making the scent very green, sour, and even juicy! “(essentially a dark, intensified Christmas tree)

I am definitely getting that “juicy” aspect!

Whilst my regular memory went out the window when I hit 50, my memory of where I was when I wore certain perfumes remains…I keep a book of all full bottles drained and I would say that I can remember what most of them smelled like overall. The AGs are particular poignant as I brought home Eau de Ciel (as well as Escada’s Un Ete en Provence which many of you know as Summer in Provence) from my first Paris trip in the very early 90s….I guess the AGs were my first intro to niche!

As soon as I put it on I thought why do I keep chasing the perfect fragrance when clearly this is one of them. Lou Lou is soft, powdery, and so charming! Makes me smile every time.

Today I’m layering just a bit of Kiehl’s Original Musk under Dior Eau Sauvage. I think of Kiehl’s Musk as the color (and texture) of rabbit’s fur, while Eau Sauvage is a perfect chartreuse.

Color-matching my fragrances is fun! I’m going to have to start doing this more often…

First off, a PSA: If anyone is interested in trying fragrances from The 7 Virtues, you can request samples on cotton pads from their website. I was reading a 2012 NST post which indicated this, so I thought, ‘what the heck’, and sent off an email request to them. Well, Barb replied within a few hours, and now I have three of her lovely fragrances to try! (I’m not affiliated.)

It’s going to be warm again today. Trying out Ezekiel bread for morning, but with coffee. Never giving up my coffee.

Will wear Vetiver of Haiti after shower, or maybe Baiser Vole, if I’m trying to ‘go green’. Fragrantica says it has a note of green lily leaves, so BV it is. This weekly challenge has certainly taught me that I have almost no green based fragrances in my wardrobe!

    Y’all have a great day! :)

My hands are all sprayed up with a variety of greens, each with a different hue. I’d say Cristalle EDP came closest to the Pantone shade as it’s a warmer green to me, but still crisp and juicy.
But, I went with Carnal Flower since I love the cool, green blast in the beginning.

I’m in something fun, by an Etsy perfumer called Wing & a Prayer. Pixel sent me some samples and I am wearing my favorite, Pan’s Flute. The website says the scent includes violet leaf, lavender absolute, lavender tincture, rose, geranium, linden blossom, mimosa, bergamot, heliotrope, fir absolute. Of course I like it! Violet, lavender, rose, linden, and fir!

Today is also the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (or #IDAHOBIT on Twitter, which kind of makes it sound like it’s something to do with Idaho).

My SOTD is Philosykos. If I had to match it to a shade of green, I’d say it’s the light, sort of blue-toned one in the picture on the left.

Bulgari au The Vert. This was one of the first fragrances I wore as an adult, when I only liked green fresh fragrances. It’s going to be in the 90s, so it’s just right. At the time I then went on to wear Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, which is one of my desert island scents. But I’m so pleased that NST community has enabled me to make up for being fragrantly monochromatic for so many years :-) .

I’ve been following your oil experiments and decided to give it a try myself with jojoba oil + a couple sprays of Mugler Pure Tonka, which is a bit too much of a sillage beast to wear on its own. Adding oil tones it down nicely and brings out the base notes. Thanks for sharing your experiments!

Dior Eau Sauvage for me today. One of the samples I pulled out to put on the dresser, since it was in a plastic Sephora sprayer. I originally asked for the sample for my husband. He wasn’t interested. So, I spray it on today and had him sniff. “Very nice”. Then about five minutes later (after I wafted past him a couple of times) he asked what it was since he liked it. Maybe I should get him some…since I quite love it.

Off topic question: has anyone used the Chanel No. 19 body milk? Nice?

Eris Night Flower for a cool, rainy morning. Topped off this afternoon with a very dark Shalimar Extrait on a sunny afternoon! My TF Amber Absolute decant comes in today. Today’s perfume choices are all over the place. But it’s fun! Have a great day!

Very good morning, all. The rain, it raineth, and the cold, it coldeth, but I don’t mind, because it gives me the opportunity to wear one of my favourite jumpers, a garment that is so much fun it makes me smile whenever I catch my reflection. I wanted to team it with a perfume that is also pure fun, but my hand just wouldn’t go past No.19, not entirely fun, but very beautiful when she behaves well, so I’m wrapped in soft wool and soft green scent, and it works nicely. Eggzellent! I pretty much finished a horrible task yesterday –I just need to write up and include a random thought that occurred to me on my walk home yesterday, but that’s a ten minute job only–and I’m all finished on that. Double eggzellent! And if His Noble Dakness yodelled last night, I slept through it–eggzellent to the power of five!

I don’t know if this will approach eggzellent (most likely not, I fear) but I thought I might wander out at lunchtime and essay the Tom Ford counter again. I did read your responses to my reflections on Tuesday’s visit, but by then it was so late up there in the other hemisphere that I didn’t comment, but I have noted your thoughts on TF prices. Thank you! My idea is to sort out what I like and if I like, buy on my visit to the US. And Robin, I’ll have to see if I can get the nice young man to surpass his “Sourced at the point of origin” patter. If he utters any similar gems, I’ll report back. Be well and greenly fragrant, all.

SOTD is Comptoir Sud Pacifique “Eau des Lagons”.

    Top: lime and cactus;
    Mid: lotus, peony and cyclamen;
Base: salt, amber, musk and driftwood.

It is neither as lovely as those notes sound, not as awful as a dose of yer actual lagoon water with all its wriggling pondlife would likely be. In fact, it’s so nondescript that I suspect some imbecile stole the recipe from Penhaligon’s, who are my go-to house for annoyingly insipid nonsense.

Anyhoo, 21:00 here3 so I really should be leaving the office. Good evening UK, guten Abend Germany, bonsoir France and Добрый вечер to all in the USA. ;^)

Cacharel Eden today. The bottle seems more greenery than the scent ( which is floral, tropical, green ).
We had seven days of no internet due to a broken modem in combination with some ‘ technical issues somewhere. Turned out to be the most productive seven days of the year and it seems I have reclaimed my attention span.
    Happy Thursday and Wednesday!

Currently wearing vintage Anais Anais dabbed from a mini that has not fared particularly well. I have always strongly visualized Anais Anais as white, but I was curious as to whether my nose would pick up green notes as I’ve not worn it in a while.

I do sense them, but still can’t see this fragrance as green. Either way, it will always be one of the prettiest fragrances ever for me (and one that’s thought-provoking, rather than going in the prim or dull direction as “pretty” can sometimes do.) I do wish I had a spray bottle that was in better shape, but the frequency of my wearing it has never warranted a purchase.

Funny – I feel like I rarely see Cacharel mentioned in SOTDs, but I see I’m house cousins with a few of you today!

Forgot to add that I love your “first days of spring” reference to La Chasse aux Papillons. I also see it as “slightly green” but have never been able to put my finger on exactly what shade. I’m also not 100% convinced that it’s not yellow.

I think I’ll put some on right now and ponder.

Thanks to everyone who wished me good health yesterday. Unfortunately, last night definitely proved that I have a %@&!! cold, and not allergies. So it’s time to settle in to the cold protocol: no hugging, no kissing, my own personal box of Kleenex, and plenty of hot tea!

SOTD = a couple of sprays of pre-2010 Opium EdT. Maybe this will give my immune system the kick in the pants it needs. If not, then hey, at least I smell good.

Back in the day, I used to chase the first sign of a cold away with Jack Daniels. A good dousing of Opium seems like a similar approach :) (PS Was there a major reform in 2010? I have a bottle from the 80s (?) that’s almost empty and will need replacing.)

I know that there was a major reformation of Opium when they changed the bottle style. If memory serves, that was around 2010. I specifically looked for the older-style bottles when I picked mine up, since I thought the new design was ugly. I would strongly suggest sniffing before you get a new bottle.

I had back-to-back dental and medical appointments today so I am just getting around to scent. I’m Hollying my way through four samples–Bracken, Iris Fauve, Coup de Foudre, and Belle de Jour. Afterward I might put on some Shalimar Mexique while it’s still cool here. Supposed to get to the nineties by next Monday.

SOTD = Jacomo Silences Parfum de Toilette

I got a FB from a generous NSTer for, either half Valentine’s Day or balf St. Patrick’s Day (more gift receiving occasions in case you are looking for one !!!). It is a green aldehylic floral mish-mash (in a good way). It is kissing cousins with No. 19 and Heure Exquise. Lovely, green, perfect for screen. I was heavy-handed with it (6 sprays). I alao topped it off with an application of FM Iris Hand Cream. If you have not tried the hand cream, you should try to find a way to do so — it is out of this world good!

Creosote ommented in my late post yesterday and asked “What will the rest of the week bring?” – this:

Today, I did the opposite of being Silent. I had to deal with a surprise and had to use strong language to convey my message. There was at least one person in the email chain who should have fessed up. Someone finally called me on it. I told her that I thought carefully about my choice of words and it was either decimated or cannibalized and the person couldn’t say anything because one was the action and the other one was the result.
