Tuesday scent of the day 5/16

Posted by Robin on 16 May 2017 211 Comments

tea and flowers

Happy Tuesday! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm on a very quick out of town trip today, and did not bring anything scented with me other than my BFF Lush Rose Jam. I didn't forget the tea, though, and I'm drinking a nice Assam from Upton right now.

Reminder: 5/19 will be Huesday on Friday, episode 2...wear a fragrance inspired by Pantone's Color of the Year for 2017, Greenery. You do not have to wear a green fragrance — be as creative as you like with the theme! "Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate." (Huesday was originally suggested by TheGoddessRena and Olenska, and you can see episode 1 here.)

Pantone Greenery

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    SOTD: Coromandel EdP

    Cold and rainy day.

    Not enough sleep thanks to:
    1) Husband forgetting to switch off his work phone which rang repeatedly at 1am;
    2) Cat deciding toes make excellent prey at 2am; and
    3) Small child climbing into bed eith me and kicking me in his sleep at 4am.

*sigh* Needed something to carry me through what was already looking to be a harsh work day followed by a night class… Coffee and Coromandel was the best answer I could come up with.

Coromandal is great. EdP is the higher concentration right? Can’t speak to coffee as I am a tea person but if I was you I would need at least a pot of it.

Husband phone making all kinds of rings and dings is just frustrating. Loved ones climbing into bed is sweet and a little irritating simultaneously if you have so much to do the next day.
You smell strong and awake!! Good luck today.

Yes, it is referred to as ‘la fee verte’ / the green fairy. It sure has a vivid green/yellow colour.
I drank it once in a bar in Brussels years ago, and I got very drunk (but I already had my share of Belgian beers that evening hahaha).

    Bongiorno lovely smelly people here!

Still on vacation. From Strasbourg to Bern and now we are in Italy (near Parma).

At the moment we are staying in a lovely small house (found on airbnb) where we are surrounded by all the greens and flowers (roses, iris) you can imagine.
So no sotd for me, just inhaling and smelling everything nature has to offer. And sitting in the sun, reading Kurt Vonnegut (Slapstick or lonesome no more).

Continuing green week with another fresh one; the lovely Origins Spring Fever. It’s so perky and fresh that it might not count as perfumista bait, but I took it on a trip to Xilitla, Mex. years ago and it will always remind me of thunderstorms in the rainforest and the wonders of that magical trip.

Beckoning hot and humid (90 degrees and humid, tomorrow and Thursday! ), by showering with Cristalle ‘gel moussant integral’. Shower gel to us regular folks. ;) LOL
Cristalle Chanel EDP circa 1995 splashed on arms and neck.
Galbanum, honeysuckle, jasmine, oakmoss, civet, and vetiver.
Went to LUSH for the first time on Sunday, Rose Jam shower gel out of stock. Just as well, I would not have waited in the daunting check out line.
The atmosphere was not as overwhelming as I’ve seen it described.
    Triple strength coffee.
Hot weather, scorch my soul !!!

Right after I posted my Chanel comment yesterday about being peeved because there were no samples of the Les Exclusifs with my FB purchase, I got an email from the Associate Director of Customer Care, who states she was able to “locate samples” and forward them to me. Also have me a code for free overnight shipping for additional purchases. Huh! Color me dumbfounded!

I went with FM Eau de Magnolia today – it’s really difficult to match fragrance to the weather in Oregon’s springtime because the weather is so changeable. It’s cold and rainy this morning, and was yesterday too but there were so many sunbreaks (yes, autocorrect, it’s a word … here, anyway) that it felt non-cold and non-rainy. If you see what I mean. You know how Eskimos reportedly have hundreds of different words for snow? I feel like I should have hundreds of different words for rain.

AG Passion today. I love how the sharp green tomato leaf and oak moss notes contrast with the sultry white flowers- what a gorgeous perfume. Now that the weather is finally warming up this is going into my regular rotation. I’ve already put away the early spring greens (Private Collection, Vent Vert, Silences, etc.) but I may need to pull some of them back out for this week’s project.

DSH Giverny in Bloom. I drained my sample and may need another small decant of it. It is a burst of stems, soil, and flowers glistening as the sun peeks through clouds after a light drizzle.

I’m so happy I can smell this one. I hope to discontinue the antibiotics, that have been altering my sensory/ skin balance, this week.

Realizing I have a sample of Miller et Bertaux Green, green, green and …green No. 3 somewhere that I should dig out and test this week.

Did everyone see all the photos of that astonishingly well-preserved dinosaur? I think it is the most amazing (and scariest) thing ever.

Hello! I’m a longtime lurker on the SOTD threads, but this is my first time contributing.

My SOTD is Dior Dune. Not a very green scent. I think the ambery-pink color of the juice matches the fragrance perfectly. It puts me in mind of a desert sunset. Or, at least what this lifelong Midwesterner imagines a desert sunset to be :)

I’m in Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate, which starts to manifest hints of sulfur a la grapefruit on me. Grapefruit is not listed as a note, so I am baffled. And odder still, I was so perplex by this I’m now doing a wrist to wrist comparison with my Pamplemousse Rhubarb by L’Occitane… I do not get that sulfuric note with the O’ccitane… hmmmm… I will enjoy draining this decant but I prefer my O’ccitane. I suspect they are equally fleeting. . .

Enabler Alert: If you are someone who loves Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate, when I was looking up the notes on this one I saw that Saks is offering the .5 oz (15 ml) travel spray for $31, and when I clicked on the link a 10% off coupon popped up for the purchase if you sign up for their emails (and then unsubscribe!)

As a lazy apartment dweller, I wish someone with good taste and far more energy than myself would sneak in and paint my bedroom with the appropriate Farrow and Ball! I get worn out even looking at the color catalogue and attempting to decide, and their catalogue is probably the briefest.

Farrow & Ball catalogue is REFRESHINGLY brief. Some of the other wonderful paint companies have what looks like college course catalogues! If you are anywhere near a F&B store, take the time to drop in. They will discuss light and orientation of windows in the room to be painted. The store that I am ordering the paint from did this.

And no joke- painting your place- even a room- is work, and there is a reason why there are professional painters!

It’s cold and pouring in Seattle today and I was an hour late to work because there were multiple collisions on the highway. When I got up I thought I’d wear Nirvana Bourbon for something smoky-sweet and comforting, but then I raged at the fact that it’s 45 degrees in May and sprayed on Memo Marfa, which I’ve been saving for summer.

Sadly it’s not doing so well in the cooler weather. When I tested this (on a much warmer day!) it was this beautiful, round, plush, rich orange blossom and tuberose. I’m not getting any of that today and I guess I should have stuck with Nirvana Bourbon and continued to save Marfa for a warmer day. Sigh.

Hello and good morning. NST. What a night! Dakkie yodelled, some people somewhere partied, the wind roared and the rain made coming-down-in-solid-walls noises. I’m tired and grumpy, cross with Dakkie and annoyed that I was awake while the dear man slept peacefully, and I’m absolutely, UTTERLY fed up with living in the city. People keep saying to me anxiously that I will miss Auckland. I will not. I am longing for life in the heartlands. There now. Rant over. (Draws deep breath and smiles a slightly wavering and unconvincing smile).

So, a perfume for this putrid weather? It can’t be green; it just can’t. Ummmm, and yes, my hand has found its way to Amber Narguile. That warm apple-tobacco-spice-immortelle combination is perfect for me for today. It’s managing to soothe and uplift at the same time. Lovely stuff!

I tried Tom Ford Vert de Fleur yesterday, and was given a small sample. I like it very much, but I’m not sure I like it to the tune of $376 for 50mls! “Goodness me,” said I to the charming young man at the counter, “what a lot of pennies that is.” He then told me that it was more expensive than some brands because it was made totally from natural oils, sourced at the place of origin….I didn’t snort derisively, because that would have been rude, but my face must have registered my extreme doubt, because he suddenly became much less grand and much more helpful.

Be well, all. I love your green choices.

I purchased Vert des Bois on Sunday and $225 plus $13.50tax for a total of $238.50 USA DOLLARS.
At Nordstrom, a fancy-schmancy department store.

I always love reading your posts, even though they are frustrated more often than not, especially of late. You record your unhappiness beautifully.

I esp. love “sourced at the place of origin” — that’s splendid.

SOTD and greenery-yallery #2 has been Pierre Guillaume “Jardins de Kerylos”.

Notes: fig leaf, herbal notes and sycamore.

A nice creamy fig leaf perfume with reasonable longevity. I’ve spent the day in spreadsheets and enjoyed the occasional waft from this one. And now it’s beer o’ clock. :^)

      Beer O’Clock!
      Enjoy!
I think I will marinate some watermelon in Absolut for a refreshing dessert.
      Cheers! ;)

Cuir d’Ange is my SOTD. Nothing green about this to me, except maybe that it smells like money ????

Ha! The first time I sniffed a sample vial of Cuir d’Ange I thought it smelled like the inside of an expensive handbag. You smell great.

Tiniest spritz of the new Jimmy Choo L’eau, from sample scored over the weekend.
Musky berries. Nice, if I liked berry-heavy scents but I don’t.

Not even green-adjacent in SSS Wood Violet. Crisp, dry, woods. I don’t get much in the way of violet, but the plum weaves in and out. I’ve discovered plum isn’t one of my favorite notes, and if it weren’t there, I might need a large decant of this. Instead, I think I need to try the other woods in the SSS lineup.

Tested her Velvet Rose last night, and boy is that gorgeous. I’d venture to guess that if you are a fan of the Rosine rose accord, SSS Velvet Rose might be a winner for you.

I HIGHLY recommend Champagne du Bois as well as Winter Woods if you are looking for wood notes in SSS.

I second them both! They are spectacular :) Also quite strong/heavy, though.

SOTD is Hermès Eau d’Orange Verte, with a top-up of O de Lancôme. Crisp green on an unseasonably cool day which would be perfect if not for gusting winds.

Sliding into (metaphorical) home plate with a real splash of 4711. Today was a good day to clear the scent palate.

Waft on with your fragrant selves, NST.

p.s. I think the kitties of NST are out of control. Meow!

SOTD: tried for the first time today: PK Perfumes “TNT – Tama N Tuberose” (http://pkperfumes.com/shop/tnt-tama-n-tuberose/). Wow! One spray inside my elbow has lasted for ten hours. It’s a gorgeous tuberose soliflore. Not something I would wear every day, as it’s one of those intoxicating white floral powerhouses, but it smells very natural. I wore it to my office today without any issues, but it would have been overwhelming indoors if I had sprayed more than once. This has amazing sillage and would smell wonderful on someone strolling through, say, Barcelona, letting it waft down the street!

SOTD = PdE Tabac Tabou 2015

Greenish juice, green perfume. I will let Christos tell you all about it:
    https://memoryofscent.com/2016/04/15/parfum-dempire-tabac-tabou-extrait-the-right-to-spring/

In this episode of in and around New York and What is wrong with this Picture:
    – sign at Madison Square Garden: Countdown to Christmas advertising some kind of show. This is just wrong, people! For goodness sake, it is only May 16th! Now if the sign said Countdown to HALF Christmas, I would.be all over it because it is a mere 40 days away, Half-Christmas, a perfect gift-receiving holiday!
    – fellow passengers on the train commuting in to NYC: a couple who looked like they were in their thirties but acting like they are immature 5 year olds. First, they took 3 minutes to decide where to sit because there were no free two-seaters and they were arguing over who should sit in the middle seat of a three-seater or who gets to sit on the aisle seat of a three-seater while the other one sits on the aisle seat in a two seater (they would end up sitting in the same row separated by a narrow aisle. They finally decided to take two aisle seats one behind the other because this was their only option at this point. Did we get relief? Of course not — they were still arguing as to what should have bappened. When the train reached a major station, a two-seater opened up and they quickly swooped in. Did we get relief? No! The female half started WHINING about getting to their destination too early (~ 1 hour – what? she can’t kill time doing a little shopping). We finally arrived at NY Penn Station and she kept up with the whining. The guy finally stalked off. If they’re a married couple, I would bet my entire perfume collection that they are divorce court-bound. If they are not married, they ahould just erase each other from memory – they are.BAD NEWS for each other!

Very late as usual. I love that color of green! SOTD was vintage Lauren, which I have loved since college. It has a cool, green feel to me. Hopefully Friday will wear VCA Muguet Blanc (a very tiny spray since my office is supposed to be scent-free now).
