Happy Almost-Friday, and May The Fourth Be With You! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in The Body Shop Honeymania, a contender for the least-worn fragrance in my collection. It really could do more to live up to its name.
Reminder: on 5/5 we're doing May-bee Baby Friday... wear a honey fragrance or one that contains a honey note. Thanks to happy888cat for the suggestion!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Ciel d’Opale, no honey but a lovely golden glow. I have to think hard about the least worn fragrance in my collection, and as usual love your categories. Random use of a Buffalo is still my favourite though.
Are you feeling better Robin?
Ditto, how are you Robin?
All of my symptoms are gone except tired, which seems to come and go. Mon & Tues I had more energy, yesterday I was exhausted all day, today I am better than yesterday. But beats what I had last week! Thanks for asking.
Hey, it’s really hard to think of the least worn — if you have a large collection, it’s probably least worn because you literally never think of it. Honeymania would never have come to my mind as least worn, but when I went looking for a honey fragrance, there it was. Not really sure if I’ve worn it since I bought it, so good thing it only cost $7.
Really glad you are mending. It sounds like you still have a bit of healing work cut out for yourself though. One step in front of the other.
I own such a ridiculous amount of perfume that it’s no surprise that I forget about some of it. It’s still not keeping me from an occasional purchase though.
I went through a Bodyshop phase in my early twenties. I was a Dewberry and White Musc afficionado. It seems a long time ago now (and it is)
Glad to hear you are on the mend, and feeling tired is often part of getting better.
Robin, I’m so glad you are felling better. Stay well!
Speaking of least-worns, your SOTD inspired a spritz of Ciel d’Opale. And some Cuir de Nacre on the other wrist for good measure.
I love the Ann Gerard scents. Although I must admit that Cuir de Nacre wasn’t my favourite. Always glad to provide some olfactory inspiration 🙂
I loved CdN when I first smelled it and it inspired buying the AG travel set. It’s actually my least favorite in the collection now. It reminds me of another Duchafour – L’AP Traversée du Bosphore, which I wasn’t fond of either. Ciel d’Opale is pretty, though. I tend to think of it as a fall/winter scent but IDK why. It’s perfect for spring.
I don’t remember associating it with TdB at all. I adore TdB.
I will do a comparison at some point.
In Chanel Beige. Great and beautiful perfume to face a super busy day. At work since 5am and drinking now my 4th cup of coffee. Where is Bear? I miss him and his triple-strength coffee. Hope everything is fine with him.
I am wearing Beige in spirit…and I sniffed my vial….and may apply to my hand later…you smell lovely!
I miss Bear too and also johanob…hope they are both well…sending them love 🙂
Johanob too. Hope he is busy with his perfume room 🙂
Beige was my wedding perfume
I know ….I remember that…..and smelling it on my hand right at this moment I will say that you made a great choice 🙂
you smell beautiful!
Star Wars!!! I am old enough to remember seeing the original in the movie theatre 🙁
Well, my intent was to wear Beige today but the heart wants what the heart wants…I am in a cloud of Heliotrope Blanc…I tried it before I left work yesterday and was thinking about it all night….
I may apply some Beige later on my hand just to say I participated 🙂
peace love light
xxoo
Yep, me too!
Wear what makes you happy, participating in the projects is pointless if it isn’t fun 🙂
I knew you would say that 🙂 Right now I am having SO MUCH fun exploring my sea of samples !!! But I did apply Beige to my hand five minutes ago…so elegant and pretty!!!
Ha, at least I am consistently predictable 😉
When I’m not feeling the theme I’ll do the tributary hand spritz, too.
Oh and I am glad you are feeling better 🙂
I remember seeing the original Star Wars with my mom. Good memories! You smell like fabulosity itself????
Thank you, my dear! My original intent before I got the 300 samples as a bday present was to wear APLS the entire week ( I have a decant sent to me by same generous best friend who sent me all those samples)…I know you love that one, right? I might do a spray of APLS tonight…just for you 🙂
Yes, I like that one a ton, although I bought a bottle of the CPLS because I thought it the more wearable of the two. Spritz on! Enjoy your own personal Mount Sample and keep us updated on what you’re trying and liking. Or, not liking ????
It was exciting qhen it came out. My folks actually took me out of school early to go see it! Now that I think about it, so out of character for them, but I guess I probably wasn’t missing much in first grade.
What cool parents! My mother took only because my dad refused to go to the movies, considering them a waste of money I guess. I remember her taking me to all the new James Bond movies as well. Not quite appropriate for a child, but I still love the opening sequences/music of the JB movies????
Sounds like your mom was cool. My parents were decidedly uncool-that was a total aberration. We did see a lot of movies, though I don’t remember James Bond. My father did take me to see Rambo which was less cool of him since it was very violent and nightmare inducing.
My dad was the big Bond fan, and although he didn’t take me to see any at the theater, we did some terrific bonding over watching them on TV.
You smell fabulous. I adore Heliotrope Blanc. I think it deserves more love. There are others from Piver I will try someday.
And you know when I looked it up I believe the original formulation was 1886 (or something like that!)….I am going to have to do some more heliotrope explorations 🙂
oh goodness! I should have said the perfumer…my bad…I am not wearing the Piver one although the Piver was on my radar a while back….maybe in five or ten years when I drain my samples and bottles I will get that Piver 🙂
the prices are extraordinarily low on the Pivers…similar to the Berdoues 1902…
Piver, I have discovered goes back to 1774!!!
and Pivers Heliotrope Blanc sells for twenty dollars for 14.25 oz!!!! (no that is not a typo..14.25!)
You do smell lovely. And I love the bottle.
the bottle IS lovely! fragrantica has it listed as a mens’ fragrance…I also discovered another Heliotrope Blanc by LT Piver originally released in 1850 which sells for a song at online discounters.
That’s the one I have! Are you wearing a different HB?
it is this one-
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Oriza-L-Legrand/Heliotrope-Blanc-32962.html
the bottles have similarity…but I was eyeballing yours a while ago as I decided when I break my no buy I would be looking for cheap thrills…yours got good comments so it was on my list along with Esprit d’Oscar, Italian Summer Fig and Berdoues 1902….
Good to know that you like the Piver one…it is probably a fifth of the price!
and here is yours-
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/L-T-Piver/Heliotrope-Blanc-11560.html
Ah, the Oriza LG. Thise bottles are even nicer! But yes, the LT Piver is inexpensive. I bought it partly because people compared it strongly to Teint de Neige. I find the LT more fliral but they do meet pretty clisrly about midway through
It’s pouring rain since the morning. It’s considerably warmer than last week bug I still needed something comforting for today.
Sotd is Dusita La Douceur de Siam.
A sample for tomorrow theme is ready 😉
you smell great! how are you liking it?
It’s my favorite from the range. It has a retro vibe like all Dusita fragrances but this one is less pungent
Wearing Jo Malone Star Magnolia. Verdict: a light and simple, far from groundbreaking, but easy to wear lemon-floral-musk. I find it almost identical to Kenzo’s d/c, but still easily found, Eau de Fleur de Magnolia, and as the latter is 1/3 of the price, it would be the more economical way to go if you’re interested in a lemon-floral for summer weather. I think I may give this one to my mom and stick with my Kenzo.
Hope you’re on the mend, Robin!
Thank you, slow but sure!
And good to know. I liked that Kenzo.
I might have to look into that Kenzo. Parfum d’Ete was my go-to summer fragrance for many years.
Serge Lutens Five O’Clock Au Gingembre: tea, ginger, cinnamon and honey. It’s so nice! And the projection is good too: my mother came from another room to ask me, “What’s this wonderful smell?” So I sprayed some on her too. 🙂
Family members sharing the perfume….love that!!!
mmm you smell delicious.
I’ve been on a vintage eighties binge all week and today I’m in the original Salvador Dalí, which is still being manufactured but never was the massive hit I thought it should have been, because it’s so good, one of those colossal eighties kitchen-sink concoctions, a floral oriental with incense, oakmoss, wood, spices, patchouli, and everything else you can think of.
I love that scent. I’ve got a mini of it somewhere.
I still kind of love those late-70s/80s kitchen sinky things.
Seconding this! 🙂
Remember Giorgio Red? (I mean the original, from 1989 — it’s still being manufactured but was reformulated into complete unrecognizability a while back.) It supposedly had 692 ingredients and was pretty much as far as a fragrance could possibly go. No wonder the pendulum swung so hard in the other direction: it’s no coincidence that L’Eau d’Issey and Bulgari Eau Parfumée both came out in 1992.
I remember Giorgio Red…I wore it in the early 90s…did not know there were 692 ingredients in it!!!
Me too! I still wear Poison and Eternity and am on constant lookout for vintage Fendi. And Tresor is one of my all time favorite. I became an adult in the early nineties, so they are close to my heart.
commando, going sniffing around the UES
Went to Elisa’s gem on 30th street and had fun exploring the bottles there. I am shocked and surprised I left empty handed.
Went to Annick Goutal and fell in love with Heure Exquise.
Heure Exquise if one of my favourites. Did you smell the edt or the edp?
heure exquise is gorgeous…I tried both the edt and edp…I gravitated towards the edp….
and please do share Elisa’s gem on 30th street 🙂
and beige…wow!!!!! great stuff…I will be sniffing my hand all day!!!
It’s one of the discounters in a sea of discounters around there, but they sell testers and I’ve found some vintage stuff in good shape for cheap (Shalimar pdt, Samsara edp and bath oil, Organza Indecence dry oil, and a bottle of Gucci Envy that I passed up).
Which avenue/avenues? I have been down to Koreatown in the past for the food…is it around there? I don’t remember seeing discount perfume shops….Or maybe I should not be asking as it would be too much of a temptation-LOL!
Ha! It’s on 30th between 5th & 6th Ave.- yes, K-Town. If you make a trip back up here, I’ll give u the exact address as there are several on that block.
thank you Elisa! am adding it to my list of streets to explore 🙂
Did they have anything good? I haven’t been there in a long time. Hope it was fun, though! And Heure Exquise is beautiful.
Have fun!
Cozy in Anima Dulcis today. I want our warm weather back!
Darned chilly here too — agree with the sentiment.
It’s a rainy day here in Berlin and I’m wearing ‘Ambre Fétiche’ by Annick Goutal.
You smell great! Wore that myself earlier this week. Perfect for a cold damp spring.
Seconding this!
Good morning everyone! Hope you’re all well. And so sorry to see that you’ve been sick Robin!
Trying again to get back in the habit of checking in with all of you lovely people here during the day, and also back into regularly wearing scent. It’s been a bit odd for me in the past six months because for some unknown reason some of my favorites (which have traditionally been the heavier hitters) became almost too much for me to handle – overstimulating somehow, which was a contributing factor in why I stepped back for a bit. But I’ve just applied a sample from my desk this morning – Keiko Mecheri’s Attar de Roses. Very sweet, but nice, and I like a sweet rose in this sunny weather.
I am slowly but surely decorating my apartment, getting rid of old crap and bringing in selected and affordable new, which has given me so much joy, as has the fact that the place is aaaaallll miiiiiiiine! That pleasure hasn’t worn off yet. *And* I also got to host my first-ever brunch for friends at my home – not something I was ever able to do before! It was delightful. I have a long way to go before everything is as I want it to be, but I’m just happy and grateful about it all.
Be well today dears!
Nice to see you 🙂
Attar de Roses is gorgeous…I still have my empty bottle which my dad confiscated when it was full and returned to me empty…I do sniff it from time to time.
You too!!
And I love that it was your dad that stole it from you! Not your typical “manly” scent, to which I say – go Dad go. Bet he smelled fabulous.
My dad is funny…He’ll be eighty next month and he does whatever he wants…..including wearing whatever smells good…even if it is marketed towards women!!!
As he should! No shame. 🙂
So good to see you back! And strangely (or coincidentally) I too have had some of my long-time favorite heavy hitters turn on me in the last year or so. Hmm…. go figure!
Enjoy your place! As Dorothy so aptly said, “There’s no place like home.” 🙂
Thanks so much Rapple! Good to see you too – and such a pretty new icon.
Is there something in the air? It’s hit Elisa P too, apparently. Why are we so delicate all of a sudden, and at the same time?
Well, if you ask a ::cough metaphysical person cough::, they’d say that it’s a) astrological (although the sun flares and energy streaming from the sun are hard science), and b) the Earth’s vibrational rate has increased (also science – the Schumann Resonance) so the feel/energy of the heavier fragrances no longer resonates.
Obviously, this all won’t affect everyone the same way at the same time.
Sigh… now I’m outed. 😉
Ahhh… We see how it is now. 😉 jk!
But are both of those things occurring right now? Maybe it’s the power of suggestion, but I’ve been feeling the same way about some of my powerhouse go-tos…
No, this is all part of a much longer process overall. But it may have reached some kind of tipping point. The solar hits have increased lately (last year or so) though.
Oh, I should have said, yes both going on now but part of a much longer process…
I’m fascinated! I thought it was just hormones. I developed a recent aversion to anything beyond a mild sweetness.
Welcome back! And last you were gere you were going traveling? Hope it was fun. I’ve also list my tolerance for heavy and sweet this year. Weird.
Hi dear!!! Hope you and the hubby and les kitties are all well! Also – I think randomly losing our taste for the heavy stuff at the same time may make us scent twins all the more.
Yes, I traveled to Europe for two whole weeks and it was amazing. Loved every minute, and came back refreshed and happy. The Black Forest, surprise side trip to Strausbourg in France, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague.
Sounds amazing!
I’m glad you had such a great time on your trip!
You smell nice. I like Attar de Roses too.
Thank you Glannys! *obligingly wafts in your direction*
“leans to the monitor and inhales” :lol”
(yeah, if only we could all smell each other via internet)
Sounds like so much fun. Making the place your own I’m sure is extremely satisfying. Brunch is the best.
I can’t even tell you how good it feels. I didn’t know what I’d been depriving myself of this whole time. And the best was when I returned home from my two week trip, opened the door to my empty apartment, and broke into a “this place is all miiiine!” dance.
Living alone is wonderful! I’ll never forget the elation I felt when I got my own studio apartment (after leaving a miserable relationship I stayed in for too long.) I was on cloud 9 for months. Enjoy it!
Welcome back! You trip sounded fabulous and again, so happy for you that you are moving crap out including the roommate who overstayed his welcome.
Thank you, and so glad to see you! And so happy you are enjoying the solitude — or at least, your own space.
The Honeymania body butter was not what I was expecting either. I actually don’t care for the smell at all and very rarely use it, even though I like the moisturizing properties of the cream itself.
No SOTD yet as I’m coming to life very slowly this morning. After my shower, I will probably slather myself with Amber Flush. This is my first of six days off and I’m planning on having my own private beach breeze sniffapalooza on Ocracoke island starting tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed the weather plays nice.
Hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend! Cheers all!
PS: Robin, Happy you are feeling better. I just read this yesterday and it gave me serious anxiety! Very good info for people who live in the high population tick areas:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/05/03/powassan-virus-how-protect-yourself-infected-ticks/310009001/
PPS: POW can be transmitted within 15 minutes of tick bite/attachment, whereas Lyme takes a much longer time to be transmitted, 12-24 hours I think I read. Scary stuff!
Oh boy….just read the article…I am going to be extremely vigilant now..thank you for sharing.
Ugh. It is hardly worth going outside anymore!
But hope your trip is wonderful 🙂
Have a fantastic vacay Deva!
Thank You! Very happy to “see” you today and happy decorating! So fun putting your own special touch to a place and making it home ????
You too!
And how’s le puppy?
Enjoy it all!!!
Ocracoke island is one of my favorite places in the world-have fun!
That sounds like a peaceful vacation and I’ll enjoy vicariously!
Ohh, nice! Enjoy your time off!
Hello everyone. I am wearing Mechant Loup today. I never realized that honey was so prominent in it. I have a FB but had to retrieve it from my little perfume wardrobe because I haven’t worn it for awhile. We have a beautiful sunny day here today with low humidity and the weekend forecast is for the same. How great is that?!
Oh, love that one! You smell great, and hope you enjoy your perfect weather.
I’m continuing honey week with Demeter Beeswax, one of my favorite Demeter scents.
Isn’t that one nice? Very simple, yet not boring.
Welcoming the cold and rain back today. Spring where are you? Sotd is Black Opium.
I don’t have the rain but I have the cold 🙁
I want Spring too!!!
Great choice for cold and rainy day. Stay warm!
Would be happy to send you some of my spring weather… it’s being temperamental this year, and can’t make up its mind.
Running late (again!) today – SOTD is Le Galion Iris, for a beautiful but very muggy day.
I like that one. It’s so fresh and elegant.
The “fresh” aspect is exactly why I chose it today – it’s sunny, but the air is heavy and it feels like a thunderstorm is imminent. LGI is cooling, somehow.
You smell wonderful!
Decided all you reeking havoc people have the right idea and wanted to join in the fun. Why limit yourself to one perfume? I have sprayed on various locations: Coco, Coco Noir, Mitzah, Cuir Amethyst and Copal Azur. 🙂
Reeking havoc a la Holly!!! Cazaubon I love your selection…you must smell fabulous today 🙂
Yes – I fully approve of another NSTer reeking havoc.
Mitzah <3
!!! That is my kind of fun right there!
Brilliant…that’s the spirit!
I am really enjoying it, a symphony of perfumes. 🙂 This is a great idea!
Falling asleep as I type today!
My first day back to work since my surgery and of course it’s my busy one. Hoping my ibuprofen kicks in before I get in my car.
Wearing Idylle from a sample. I want to smell radiant and impossibly fresh. This should have been more popular.
Surgery – oh dear! Hope that vitamin I (as my mother always called it) kicks in and does its work soon.
Always a staple in my house. I love the turn of phrase! Thank you!
You smell lovely. Take it easy when you can. 🙂
Hope you have a speedy recovery!
You smell lovely! I hope you get through today with minimal or no pain or discomfort.
Best wishes for getting thru your day! Surgery recovery is no joke.
Good luck Coumarin! Hope it all worked out pain free.
Was planning on wearing Beige today too, but I am battling a killer headache, so just a smidge of Bulgari green tea today.
Oooof. Hang in there.
feel better
I hope you feel better as the day goes on.
Bon courage! You smell lovely, hope the headache is gone soon.
Boo hiss on the headache.
Good morning Y’all!
Rainy dreary gray day…..good for the flowers and veggies! 🙂
SOTD: Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere.
You smell divine!
SOTD: Seville a L’Aube
Epic, Biblical rain here. And chilly. Stay safe everyone – especially those in the mid-West and South flood areas!
Robin, sending positive vibes for your continued improvement.
We’re having rain and flooding here in Quebec too. The rain can stop now, we’re good!
Thank you! And gosh, stay safe.
SotM = La Chasse aux Papillons, aka Springtime in a Bottle.
I haven’t watched Rogue One yet. Perhaps today.
Rogue One is excellent. I thought it was much better than The Force Awakens.
Agreed…it is a better film.
Yes! I agree, much better. AND Riz Ahmed is in it. I love him.
My teenage son said I absolutely must watch Rogue One as it was much better than the prior film (which I enjoyed), although he (spoiler) warned me R1 has a very “Shakespearean ending.”
beautiful scent!
I have to admit I huffed my wrist all day. 🙂 I must “chasse aux papillons” more often.
“Springtime in a bottle” – perfect!
La Chasse is just so good. I’m giving myself half a point for honey week because it smells like honeysuckle to me. 🙂
SL Chergui today-not sure I can smell the honey note but as usual I’m enjoying it very much.
You smell wonderful!
I don’t know if any scents that I have with a honey note… I ordered Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey hand cream and body lotion on sale. Came yesterday. At first try of the lotion yesterday, I mostly smelled buttered popcorn, which is not exactly how I want to smell.
The original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back are two of my favorite movies. I dragged my sister out of bed one Saturday morning long ago to see Star Wars in the first showing, to avoid the lines. I saw it twice more that same week. Ended up seeing it five times in the theater. I was kind of a geek….
I agree about the Almond Milk & Honey. I ordered the bath milk in that scent and it’s not my favorite. I’ll use it, but it’s not a joy.
That’s good geekery right there. We approve.
Happy to hear you’re feeling better, Robin!
Beautiful, sunny day here. I have very few honey scents left and my tolerance for very sweet has ruled some out for me so may have to just do a nod with a hand spritz tomorrow.
Today I’m in my newly acquired Melissa Flagg Hawaiian Botanicals Punani (gardenia) which I’m enjoying A LOT. It comes with a screw on bulb sprayer but I decanted some to reapply since it fades after a couple of hours.
I am ready for beautiful sunny days! It is still too cold here.
Wearing Paris LA today. Again, no honey, but this one is at least sweet.
I FINALLY switched out my tray of perfumes for spring. These made the cut…
1. Guerlain Muguet 2016
2. Guerlain Apres L’Ondee
3. Chanel Gardenia
4. Byredo Pulp
5. Byredo Inflorescence
6. Atelier Cologne Oolang Infini
7. Jo Malone Darjeeling Tea
8. Dusita Melodie De L’Amour
9. Hermes Muguet Porcelaine
10. Atelier Cologne California Clementine
11. Chanel Eau de Cologne
12. Domonique Ropion Gardenia
13. Diptyque L’Ombre Dans L’eau
Samples/Decants of: Dusita Douceur De Siam, A Lab on Fire Paris LA, Frederic Malle Eau de Magnolia, Michel Magnolia Grandiflora, Sisley Izia, MFK Pluriel, Diptyque Olene, Grace Coddington Grace
Though I can’t see it, that reads like a good-looking tray right there.
Such a wonderful group of ‘fumes!
Would you like a sample of Muguet 2017? I was given a generous one from a wonderful Guerlain SA. But lotv is not my thing.???? My email: laugsb at sbcglobal dot net
oh thanks so much for the offer! but actually, the juice is the same this year as it was last year, so I’m good with my bottle. I’m sure someone else in the NST community would really enjoy it though!!!
Good to see that you’re feeling better Robin!
I’m in Angel taste of fragrance today, such a great scent!
I’m also (on the other arm) unfortunately sampling Hermes Muguet porcelaine and I have the same problem with it as I have with Vanille galant. A fab top note, but under that lurks a thick, chevy tropical fruit note (an overripe banana? Watermelon skins left out in the sun for days?) that feels off and makes me queasy. I usually like fruity but this clash with my chemistry in a strange way.
Yesterday Luna Green remarked that it smelled like Laffy Taffy, so you’re in good company 😉
????
Walking home last night about 9:15 pm I passed by a small park and was stopped in my tracks by a beautiful scent. I followed my nose to some small trees with wonderfully fragrant white flowers. At first I thought they might be locust trees, but the flowers were more delicate. The overall configuration of the hanging blossoms also resemble wisteria, but wisteria blossoms are heavier. The bark was gray, not thick or heavily textured. Thanks to Google image searches, I was able to identify the tree as American yellowwood, Cladrastis kentukea.
http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=a270
The scent was somewhere between frangipani, jasmine, carnation, tuberose, and gardenia. Very beautiful, not too cool, nothing odd or strange about it that would place it closer to another white flower that one would recognize.
I had walked that way many times before and never caught the scent. The trees might not have been mature enough yet; they don’t bloom heavily every year; and the weather has to be right for maximum scent. I find a cool, windless night is most favorable. I love following my nose! 🙂
kanuka would approve of your following your nose and persistence in researching the source 🙂
Kanuka is definitely one of my role models!
Oh, what a lovely happenstance!
This is only the third time it’s happened to me. Before that were vibunum and saucer magnolias.
Oh wow! One summer, my nose led me to a hidden house in the West Hills of Portland, where there was, somehow, a garden full of wildly growing honeysuckle AND jasmine. I mean, the plants were merrily growing all over the place! The house itself was an old Tudor type house. It felt very magical.
I second virburnum. I planted a bush in my yard at least ten years ago. It smells heavenly. I can smell it from clear across my yard.
What a great story! I love when that happens. Yesterday I was walking back to my office after lunch and was stopped almost dead by a tree of white lilacs that smelled heavenly. They are blooming late this year, but it’s been a cold, cold spring so no surprise.
I’m going to have to see if I can find a tree of American yellowwood sometime!
I think lilacs already bloomed here a few weeks ago, so you still have time to find yellowwood this year if you don’t live too far north for it. I’m in the DC metro area where it’s warm enough (usually) for saucer magnolias and grandifloras.
Love yellow wood trees! When I lived in the country I had one (and a little leaf linden right next to it) right outside my door. Also a huge catalpa (see gravatar) out front. They smell gorgeous as well.
We have catalpas here, so beautiful!
That’s a beautiful looking tree and I wonder if we have one in our botanic gardens. If we do, it would be bright yellow at the moment. Night walks are one of the great pleasures of life!
Nice! The flowers in the planters along 5th Avenue smell nice too and I keep wondering if the scent was enhanced by perfume!
Happy Thursday!
1) Sunshine for a second day in a row! Huzzah! Although we are supposed to get thunderstorms, then a return of the chill tomorrow (boo hiss!)
2) SOTD: Am trying Infusion Fleur d’Oranger. This is a sort of old school, orange blossom cologne- no sweetness, very refreshing to splash on, very elegant. But would I buy this in a full bottle? MAYBE, even the bottle was bigger so that you could lavish this all over in the hot summer.
3) Outfit of the day: Khaki slacks, black heeled sandals and my pink fancy people shirt. I can fit in the shirt again! Huzzah! 🙂
Your scent of the day sounds great…it is always fun to have something one can splash on with reckless abandonment….
also wanted to tell you that vitacost is having 15% off selected items with code FORHER, in case you are interested.
OOh! Yay! Thank you for letting me know!
It is a cool, bright and sunny morning … but threatening another furnace afternoon. I’m in Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger Violette Sacrée courtesy of Clarissa, and it is absolutely the most perfect scent for this morning. It is almost chewy. Chewy violets, not powdery. Maybe candied bitter citrus peel and violets?
I had a dab sample of this and absolutely loved it. I’ve been hoarding the last few drops. I’ll have to pull it out and see what I think as it’s been a couple of years since I first fell in love. At the time it struck me as very elegant.
Today’s SOTD, inspired by a post yesterday on NST is L’Arte di Gucci by Gucci (dabbed) – it’s perfect for today’s foggy SF weather.
Waving at ya from sunny Oakland!
Hello! Wishing we had yesterday’s weather!! 🙂
L’Arte!!! Yummy.
I’m wearing Sud Magnolia this morning. I wanted something light and springy that wasn’t a citrus or a rose. It’s nice.
Wearing Chergui today since I only remembered yesterday that it has a honey note. I don’t smell it distinctly but I guess it’s there.
You smell wonderful!
Chergui ????
It’s dark and dreary here today and I’m in TF’s Noir de Noir just because I craved it. Happy Almost Friday, all!
I’ve been enjoying Terre d’Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche for a while now, but I’d never tried the original Terre d’Hermes. Happily, my most recent Sephora order came with a sample of the original (perhaps they are making up for the dozens of Daisy samples over the years). Wearing it today – verdict: I like this a lot but I think I slightly prefer Tres Fraiche, which has more cumin.
Addendum: at about the 3-4 hour mark Terre d’Hermes suddenly sprung to life and gave me cumin galore!
I got TdH too with my Sephora order. I know I didn’t ask for it so it is likely a replacement of a sample that ran out.
My Maharanil oil plus a sample of Ray of Light, as the sun has come out here. It’s lemony without feeling like a cleaning product.
There is so much to do this week, I wonder if it’s even possible? oh well, it’s not even 10 am yet, and you smell wonderful.
DSH Butterfly Nectar is my scent of the day. I purchased a small sample of this. I smell honey and lots of fruit. Its a nice scent, just not me.
I’m glad you’re feeling better, Robin 🙂
I love the photo–honey and Star Wars!
I’m in Elie Saab Le Parfum today for its honey note.
May the Fourth Be With You today on this fine Star Wars Day!! …Or not, depending on which side you’re on ????:

Hilarious video!
Haha! That’s a great video!
So cute!
Baiser Volé EDP today. A safe work scent.
And a pretty one, too!
SOTD (and honey scent #4 and Pierre Guillaume scent #3) is Parfumerie Générale “Indochine”. Notes are benzoin, pepper, honey, cardamom, sandalwood and woody notes.
Very nice indeed and TOMK approves too!
He and I went for a walk this afternoon, from the Parque del Oeste with its surreal sculptures all along the beachfront back into the city centre. And now our feet are killing us! :^D
Good to know Indochine has honey in it. I wouldn’t have guessed, but I do love that one, so I like at least one honey fragrance!
I bought a decant of that and loved it. Unfortunately, even heavily applied, it only lasted about an hour on me then completely disappeared. Same with the other PGs I tried. But you smell heavenly!
Indochine????
Scent and sights sound wonderful!
Love Indochine!
So interesting to hear about your least-worn fragrance, Robin! I think that’s a good poll idea: what are your least worn fragrances or what are your bottom five fragrances that you own?
My fragrance today is Laboissier Carnation, a sheer, bright, spicy carnation that I find very uplifting. This is a decant I’m trying to use up. My personal program these days is to finish at least one decant per week (I have so many with just a bit left in them). It’s both interesting (giving good wears to some fragrances has been surprising in some cases) and gratifying to thin that herd!
Good idea! Honeymania might have rivals I am not even thinking of. I have to dig through the cupboard.
And good for you. I should try harder to empty some decants.
By the way, the last time I wore Delrae’s Amoureuse I thought I smelled a honey note, and I checked and indeed honey is listed as one of the notes.
oh amoureuse is delightful, I should pull out my sample!
I’m in Tom Ford Vert Boheme. No honey, just very nice.
Nectarine Blossom & Honey for the day. Had a strange association with scented markers when I put this one on. Can’t say I like that.
Stumbled across Tokyo Milk lip elixirs yesterday so had to order some since lip balm is my other obsession. Perfumey notes combined with lip balm? Oh yay! I hope they deliver what I’m hoping for though I haven’t loved any Tokyo Milk perfumes that I’ve tried, but had to go for it anyways!
i got an instant scent memory of those almost plasticy scented rubbers ( erasers) that were made in Japan and had transfers on them. I never had scented markers but I suspect it’s the same sweet fruity kernel smell?
I always yearned for one of those rubbers! The girl next to me had one, and she never shared. Mind you, they weren’t efficient– they sort of smudged the pencil around and left black smears on the page.
Yes! Either they smelled similar or my scent memory was for those very things. Reminded me of something I had in my pencil case in elementary school 🙂
I forgot to put on any fragrance this morning but yesterday’s scent–Kingston Ferry by Olympic Orchids–is still clinging nicely to my jacket. It’s got this great chewy, woody, slightly sweet and slightly skunky base. I finished my sample and don’t think I’ll purchase a full bottle, but I can definitely appreciate this perfume.
Does it smell like a ferry dock? I’ve always been curious about that one since ferry docks have such a distinctive smell.
SotD is Ophelia, by Heeley
Happy SW day…I am not a huge fan of the movies (though I’ve seen them and i really liked the last one, Rogue One)
but I love the characters and the space ships (I own a LEGO X-wing).
But 4th of May is and always will be Remembrance Day in the Netherlands.
Every year at 8 PM two minutes of silence are observed throughout the whole country to commemorate all Dutch civilians and soldiers who have been killed in wars and during peacekeeping operations since WW2.
And tomorrow is Liberation day. We’ll celebrate the liberation from the German occupation (mostly by Canadians, British, Polish and American troops). It has become a celebration of our freedom and the value freedom in general.
Jiji, I posted a reply to you yesterday, but I think I posted too late for you to see it. One of my colleagues sent me a link to a cat video, which I am keeping at the top of my email queue, because it makes me smile every time I watch it:
https://twitter.com/b_ru_ru/status/847368727016259584/video/1
I am slightly embarrassed to admit how many times I’ve viewed it.
OMG, so funny! I was hoping that the tabby on our left won’t get a treat if he rang the tortie’s bell! Ok, I am not sure if I identified them as the right type of cat…so the gray one on our left and the white one on our right
My first thought was, “Oh my god, I hope my cats never see this….” Then I remembered that I don’t have a bell in the house, that they’re cats and they have no access to the internet (that I’m aware of), and that I’m supposed to be the alpha critter of the household.
Ha, I am not even really a cat person but have already been sucked into that one twice. It really is hysterical.
🙂 🙂 🙂 thank you!
Funny how simple stuff like that can really make my day.
(ps And yes, i missed the comment the other day, sometimes I do get an alert mail and sometimes I don’t…content and mail systems work in mysterious ways 😉
Am in last night’s traces of Angel Muse. Will wear the last of my Au Pays Violette Sacrée sample once Angel Muse has made a final exit. (Thanks, OaklandF for reminding me of VS!)
So Project Functional Kitchen is finished. My mom (with whom we’re living temporarily) has a beautiful kitchen that was completely remodeled 5 or 6 years ago, but rebuilt in +/- exactly the same configuration that preexisted. I think she just threw everything into drawers & cupboards (she cooks and has A LOT of kitchen stuff) without thinking through any kind of organizational system. (Aka, jam it in, and if the contents of the cupboard fall out when you open it, a-ok!)
Here’s what I’ve done:
– Moved and reorganized plates/bowls/glasses so that you don’t have to pull out an entire stack of bowls just to take out one (i.e., smaller stacks so you can pull one out with one hand.)
– Cleaned out and reorganized fridge/freezer, plus the 2 freezers and fridge in the garage. Shuffled fridge shelves around so tall things fit where they need to.
– Moved knives to a different drawer and installed them in a flat knife block that has enough slots to hold all of them.
– Moved small hand tools to a shallow upper drawer in a drawer organizer. (They were formerly in a deep drawer that was packed high with everything imaginable so nearly impossible to find what one needed.)
– Installed drawer dividers in said deep drawers and reorganized larger tools into separated slots.
– Reorganized plastic wrap/ziploc bags into a large but shallow sliding drawer so they all fit together. Previously they were in what is now the knife drawer, but long rolls of foil, etc. didn’t fit so some were in a cupboard in the laundry room (where they also didn’t fit so it took rejiggering the cupboard every time you needed to pull out a gallon ziploc or parchment paper or what-have-you.)
– Reorganized large and very tall sliding drawer with square/rectangle homogenously-shaped tupperware. There are 4 or 5 different sizes, neatly stacked. It is a thing of beauty, I have to say.
– Put drawer organizers in the junk drawer. Now you can find stuff and it doesn’t look junky.
– Put pans, lids, bakeware, cutting boards, and other such items that were previously stacked on top of each other into vertical racks. Now to get what you need, you just slide it right out. (I found some adjustable racks that you can build to fit your stuff – brilliant!)
– Completely cleaned out an odd-shaped (long and narrow) closet and built a baker’s rack into it. That’s now where all of the appliances and seldom-used bakeware are stored.
– Cleaned out and reorganized the (small) laundry room cupboard next to the kitchen. Moved some crap into the garage (which we spent multiple weekends cleaning out this winter); reorganized stuff into bins, and made enough room to store food that doesn’t need to be in the kitchen. (Cases of chicken stock, big bags of flour, sugar, rice, etc.)
– Put all of the random bags of bulk grains/legumes into air-tight stacking containers. Same with bags of candies, chocolates, nuts, popcorn, etc.
Last few tasks: buy an indoor recycling bin. Right now their bins are outside on the back porch. Inconvenient, plus they get dirty/rained on and I don’t want to have to haul them around. I’m getting a SiimpleHuman brand that uses recyclable liners, so it’ll only be the bags that get hauled out to the alley for pickup.
And last: I managed to find 2 sliding rack storage units (the kind on tracks that you bolt to the bottom of a cupboard) for the area under the kitchen sink. It’s a very deep cupboard but has a bunch of pipes hanging down but I found 2 narrow but long units so the entire area can be utilized. I’ll also put a compost bin down there.
I have no expectation whatsoever that anyone will read even a small portion of this, but it feels like a major accomplishment to have it all done.
Up next: Project Build an Office in the Dining Room That Will Be Completely Invisible When I’m Not Using It But Still Hold Piles of Files, Binders, and all of our Personal Stuff That Doesn’t Belong in a Bedroom.
Wrong! I read the whole list of activities! I’m in awe, and envious, because I can’t wait to move to Whanganui and start my domestic projects on the house there. Power to your elbow, kpaint. Fantastic job!
I am very impressed. I would love that kind of order but I live with someone who likes to keep everything ‘ where he can see it’ which, in reality, means on the nearest bench or stuffed in a drawer with everything else. Handy if you need a puncture repair kit in your fruit bowl.
So THAT explains why Mr. G leaves things on couches, in hallways, on the kitchen counter, in the middle of the living room floor …. he just wants it where he can SEE it? Men are fascinating. Annoying, but fascinating. 😉
This! I get really peeved when my male leaves stuff on the couch.
Wow! Can you stop by my place and do some organizing? ????
But, but, errrr, no judgement on us “jam it in, and if the contents of the cupboard fall out when you open it-a-ok” folks, right?
I mean. We have some other good qualities. I’ll think of them while I try to find my whisk….
Maybe look for a secretaire cabinet? (Display shelves, book shelves over chest of drawers; top ‘drawer’ is actually a slide-out desk top). I use one at home, very practical and would suit a dining room.
Yep, that’s what I’m putting in today.
Very impressive! I start out well intended then start shoving things in drawers/cabinets/closets eventually, and then overhaul periodically and repeat cycle.
Love it! I admit I had a good time organizing our half-size apartment when we moved. I definitely have to pull stuff out to get to things, but it’s the nature of the beast here. But there is a spot for everything.
I concur with comments down below. What is it with men who have to leave stuff out and visible? Or can’t see something that is slightly behind something else?
I lived in a 750′ ft apartment with my H & his son for 9 years. That’s a situation where everything needs its own place and organization is critical. I did a rehaul of our kitchen about a year ago so I already had some ideas about how to make this one more functional.
And my husband does those things, too! I try to be tolerant…
Greetings and salutations, NST. I’m not in honey for this cold Friday, because I am chairing the Board of Studies this afternoon and I need a spine-stiffener, not a sweetener, no matter how lovely.. The agenda = 300 pages, the time = 2 hours and the co-operation among board members = 0 . Once I would no-brained my way to No 19 for this sort of activity, but I’m still finding that occasionally her behaviour is unreliable and bratty. I need my perfume to help me focus today, so…..yes, same house, 31 Rue Cambon. Oh my goodness, this is BEAUTIFUL. The dear man has just put his head into the bedroom, sniffed, winked and said, “Aha!” in a meaningful kind of way, but I don’t know what his “Aha!” means. He’s just invited me to lunch out, though, so that’s nice.
Well, I should pootle merrily up the hill in my red boots. Be well and happy, all.
Amouage Journey. A good match for a cold autumn day. I am trying to arrange a visit to a local shoe factory. It was established in 1870 and still going strong. Waterdragon very kindly bought me an Oberon leather journal cover which reminded me of the smell of my school shoes and the smell of shoe shops….which made me think that shoes and shoe shops don’t smell so strongly of leather as they used to. Which raises the question, Why? So, I emailed the shoe factory ( is it the quality of the leather, the tanning process, the source of the leather, the fact that shoe boxes used to be stored on high shelves above the display and not out the back….). They will either read my email and back away carefully from the obvious mad woman or they will be leather freaks…hoping for the latter.
I wonder if it’s partly because shoe soles aren’t made of leather nearly as often as they used to be, having been supplanted by Vibram or other longer-wearing synthetics.
Please post their reply if you get one!
Of all the hundreds of perfumes I own (not to mention samples), I can’t think of any as being “honey” oriented. Perhaps a Serge or two may have some honey in it, so I will probably have to forego the Friday theme tomorrow unless something comes to mind. Today I’m wearing Stephane Humbert Lucas Black Gemstone…great incense among many other ingredients but absolutely no honey.
I have something somewhere that reminds me of honey. But what is it and where is it?
Chance Chance Eau Tendre, just one spray under my shirt.
I am a fan of the Eau Fraiche & Eau Tendre flankers, what can I say 🙂
Back to the sample stash today. SOTD = vintage Diorling EdT. The top notes are a little off, but boy oh boy the rest of it is fantastic!!
So sorry that Perfumelover67 had a terrible commute yesterday morning. I hope that doesn’t happen to you again. And a hearty “Phooey” on Hajusuuri’s obnoxious coworkers.
Confession time: I have recently bought something for the so-oh-cute bottle. Mind you, I like the perfume itself, but the bottle kind of pushed me to give it a good home. I now own a “kitten-sized” La Panthere Legere. I even “squee-ed” when I first saw the bottle.
Thank you dear, my commute today was pretty smooth. You smell fantastic in Diorling. One of my favorites scents.
I’ve been getting acquainted with some of the classics lately and discovering some really wonderful things!
Thanks, jalapeño. Today, I was at an alternate work location and oh my lord, I got a triple dose of the selfishness, I also reflected on my behavior today and concluded that I, too, was selfish today.
Today is my birthday. Yes, the fourth may be with me!
I’m wearing some of my new B&BW shea lotion in Endless Weekend, which I like much better than I thought I would. It was a gift, not something I bought and I’m considering adding the shower gel to my arsenal.
And it’s a gorgeous day here near Denver. So despite the fact that I am still cleaning/packing for our upcoming move, I’m happy!
Happy birthday!!
Happy birthday! Glad you’re having a wonderfully scented day!
Happy birthday. Enjoy!
Happy Birthday! Anything “Star Wars” themed in the works?
No, but had dinner outside at a favorite restaurant with girlfriends. I’ll consider that a win for the rebel forces!
Happy Birthday and an endless weekend sure would be nice! Hope the happy continues for you!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
Ooooh, happy birthday spring pansy!
Happy birthday, so glad you got perfect weather for it!
Wow, thanks everyone. I didn’t really know if anyone was still reading! Yes, an endless weekend would be pretty perfect. Even just a longer one would be nice… happy Friday tomorrow!
Hope you had a happy day!!!
In keeping with this week’s theme, I am wearing Flora Nymphea, my one and only Aqua Allegoria fragrance.
You smell pretty! That also is my one and only AA. I used to have Lys Soleia too (from a swap) but as it turns out, Lilies and I don’t agree so I had to give that one away.
A friend of mine had Lys Soleia and I really loved it on her. But different strokes. ????
SuzyQ reminded me that …
SOTD = PdE Tabac Tabou
… has honey! It’s a beauty and I really ought to wear it more often. I have maybe 5 mLs left in my bottle. For full disclosure, I split the 50 mL bottle circa 2015 with 4 others. It will give me great satisfaction to finish the bottle even though 80% was due to the split. I’m contemplating a 2017 bottle.
Looking forward to tomorrow as I will be wearing a favorite!
Tabac tabou really is a beauty, you smell great! 🙂
and now I am curious as to what you will be wearing today 🙂
