It's Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Parfums de Nicolaï Rose Royale, a cheerful rose scent for a medley of sad rose songs, featuring two old favorites and one new: Elvis Costello covering Jerry Chestnut's Good Year for the Roses, Billy Bragg & Wilco covering Woody Guthrie's When The Roses Bloom Again, and The Zombies doing A Rose For Emily, inspired by the Faulkner story (yes, I just finished S-Town).*
Reminder: 4/14 will be Playlist Friday — name a favorite song, and wear a perfume that fits the song.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
* Videos: Elvis (on vinyl), Billy Bragg, Zombies.
Muscs Koublai Khan for the retro goth pop glamour of Shakespears Sister’s Goodbye Cruel World. I went to see them in 1992 and it’s still one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.
Here’s Siobhan and Marcella hamming it up a storm for Goodbye Cruel World, one of my favourite videos ever:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfV7SukgeMY
Nice matching!
Good choice!
Sotd: Fille en Aiguilles
This scent ‘rebooted’ my interest in perfume more than a year ago and its still one of my favourites!
Serge Lutens siblings today!
Ah you are wearing MKK!
I Totally forgot to try that one when i was in the SL store almost 2 weeks ago. 🙁 It’s hard to get samples or decants in Europe from the bell jars. I once ordered samples of a few bell jars from TPC. Insanity. 🙂
Whats it like? Do you love it?
I do, but I have quite the tolerance for the dirtier sides of perfume, and it ain’t no laundry musk! But it does read quite cosy, like warm fur, to my nose.
I havent find out (yet) where my tolerance for musk/dirty ends, but I do like Salome (Papillon) a lot….(and that is supposed to be quite animalic right?)
You smell great!
Thank you!
Sous le Vent SOTD
Dry Grass and Shadows by Alela Diane, a folk singer
https://youtu.be/8sxVwbwm3BA
(accompanied by her father on mandolin)
thanks for this…gorgeous voice, gorgeous harmonies…will be listening to it again….
I love when artist perform with their parents or vice versa. I have seen Patti Smith live playing with her son, and Ben Harper sing with his daughter on guitar. Very sweet!
You smell great. I almost became your scent twin today.
RIP J. Geils.
I met the band in the’70s as a busboy in a hotel restaurant. Bawdy and fun for my 15 year old self.
Flamethrower, VERY LOUDLY PLAYED.
J’adore L’or, just ’cause.
Troublemaker me, what is with the ‘cold shoulder’ clothing? !?!?
I think I’ll take one of my suits and have the tailor remove the shoulders, shirt too.
LOL 😉
Fashion, we are the goon squad and we’re comin’ to town- BEEP BEEP!
😀
Carpe Diem.
Triple strength coffee.
Peace.
The other day I heard Pete Wolf doing a guest dj stint on Tom Petty Radio, and he was quite entertaining & played some obscure music I’d never heard before, always a plus in my book. What a cool memory to have encountered the band.
And I think he was married to Faye Dunaway when I encountered them.
6 degrees of separation! !!
LOL
I think I played the b side of 45 for Freeze Frame until it wore out! I loved Flamethrower !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love 80s rock!
Ach Bear, as a plus size woman I too question what the deal is with cold shoulder clothing. I have been doing some much needed shopping for spring/summer online and that cold shoulder stuff is everywhere!
Great memory about J. Geils. I managed a small Mexican restaurant in Houston in the early 80s and Billy Gibbons came in for lunch one weekday all by himself. This was in the days of multiple carbon receipts for credit cards, we were all in awe of his autograph lol.
I don’t know, as a plus size woman I can say that my shoulders are about the only part of my body that have stood up well over time.
Cold shoulder clothing is…kinda dumb. I bought a dress, wore it once, and it has been hanging in the closet ever since.
I am too practical and comfort-oriented for the cold shoulder look. I like my shoulders warm, thankyouverymuch.
Yep, that cold shoulder thing is a non-starter in my wardrobe.
I’m cold natured, so the cold shoulder look is out of the question in my closet! Makes me cold just thinking about it! 🙂
What did I miss?
Two years ago I bought a cute white cold shoulder top. I wore it in summer at the beach/on holiday, paired it with jean shorts and flip flops. Thats the way you should wear them imo. 🙂
I hope they stay away from the office/business/formal occasions.
Yes, ITA with this.
I have yet to buy even one cold shoulder top or dress because I fear it is a fad that will go out of style quickly and I’m too cheap to buy a piece of clothing that won’t last a few years lol.
Aw man! I did not know that J. Geils had passed. 🙁
I still like “Flamethrower”, and thought that it should have had more airplay than it did.
I somehow missed this news today too.
“Troublemaker me, what is with the ‘cold shoulder’ clothing? !?!?”
I’m a 5th generation Florida Gulf of Mexico beach native, haven’t worn even the most lightweight cotton sweater for more than a year, and don’t get it either. In my world, that trend offers only the unpleasant possibility of being both overheated from long sleeves AND sunburned on the shoulders. No thanks.
SOTD: Vintage Eau Sauvage
SOTD is Olympic Orchids Golden Cattleya, my very favorite from this wonderful house. It is a warm, sunny, golden honey-narcissus-orange blossom work of art. Truly one of the happiest perfumes I’ve ever owned!
I have to try this, I was just looking at samples yesterday. So many choices in this line!
Golden Cattleya is gorgeous but a bit sweet for my taste. I particularly love another orange blossom fragrance in the OO line – Mardi Gras (great review by Kevin on this site).
You smell marvelous! Golden Cattleya is my favorite Olympic Orchids scent, as well. When I dab it on, I experience a rush of joy.
My mother-in-law complimented me when we hugged hello so often when I wore it that I bought her a bottle.
Early this morning finished up my sample of Hindu Honeysuckle which has worn off. Now added Jour Ensoleille which matches my ELO song (any ELO fans out there?)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhFy4qZ0ah8
Hope you all have blue skies today 🙂
Later on I will finish up my Grand Neroli sample….I am going full on Holly today (reeking havoc)….
I have never heard this song..very upbeat!
I think it was pretty much unknown until an insurance (??) company used it in a commercial a few years ago…first time I heard the tune on TV I said,”hey, wait a minute, that’s my favorite ELO song!”
Volkswagen, they played it a lot during NFL games.
I sang it once in CVS, with my very embarrassed nieces in attendance.
Good times! !
😉
Bear….I would have LOVED to hear you singing this in CVS and probably would have joined you, much to the chagrin of my younger family members who I am constantly embarrassing!
or would that be “whom”?? I need the grammar police 🙂
Such a fun, happy song. Love it!
🙂
for you classical music lovers this is a much better rendition-but you must get to the end of the song-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjPqsDU0j2I
I am starting to realize that some my most favorite rock bands all have an orchestral component, even the contemporary ones, like Coldplay.
Love Mr Blue Sky, who could be sad listening to this song?! Such a great pick me up. coincidentally, I bought my kids the film of The Magic Roundabout in a charity shop earlier in the week, watched it yesterday and this song is in the sound track.
I know right? so uplifting! Glad to see it making its way into movies!
Looove ELO. They were very underrated!
I wholeheartedly agree.
Random sample: Pittsburgh Street Soapworks Candy Apple. For some reason making song/perfume connections is baffling my brain, but this one is clearly any pop song from 2001 that you don’t realize you remembered until it comes on the radio.
Sous Le Toit de Paris to go with spring flowers
Yum.
I was thinking I should wear Sous Le Vent but happened upon a near-empty decant of Creed Fleurs de Gardenia. A bunch of happy white flowers sounded great on a gloomy day, so on it went 🙂
Gloomy out here too! Hope you have a great day anyway.
Hi almost twin!
Its gloomy and gray here too
I have been trying out a variety of Gardenias but Creed Gardenia is the only one I like…. 🙁 $$$! Have to get another little decant….
Wearing TDC Ailleurs & Fleurs apropos of absolutely nothing.
Working on cleaning/packing in preparation of big move coming up. Is there anything worse than moving after 24 years, 3 kids, etc ? (Of course, I know there are worse things. I’m just whining.) I am, however, finding some long lost samples and wearing them all as I find them. : D
Please, whine away! I do not look forward to doing the same, I’ve been in my house just about 20 years. Very good luck!
Oh, moving is the worst! We downsized to our very small house nine years ago and decided that our next move would be out the door feet first 😉
Ugh, I hate moving and I usually stay in a place for just a few years!
Argh…moving after 24 years…I cannot even imagine what thats like (12 years is the longest period I stayed in one place, i moved 9 times in my life). Good luck with the whole ordeal!
I am in the new Naja from Vero Profumo today thanks to a fantastic friend who sent me a sample from the European Trade Show circuit.
Beautiful powdery leather with a clean citrus opening and something running underneath ( not sure what yet – osmanthus perhaps).
Another stunner from Vero Kern.
Today’s song – Devil with a Blue Dress:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXy7qYAKrfc
How exciting to be among the first to try Naja–sounds intriguing!
Great SONG!!! love
She play this for my babies..its easy to dance too
Should play not she play
TBH , I am not playing fair. I am wearing whatever scent I choose, then picking a song that matches the mood it creates instead of starting with the song and matching the scent 🙂
Me too. My favourite songs touch a very different part of my soul – I neither can nor want to match them to perfumes.
Love that song and lucky you to be gifted with Vero Kern’s Naja. I have been looking forward to trying that one.
Heading to my daughters IEP. We have to decide on a high school. Frankly, around here the choices are not great. I’m wearing Juicy Couture, Juicy Couture. Speaking of high school, lol. My song is Must of got lost, in memory of J Geils.
Good luck with your annual review/IEP/transition meeting…wishing the best and that your daughter gets exactly what she needs. Chin up!
Ha, yes. Love that J Geils song. Best of luck with the IEP.
Thanks everyone!, it actually went pretty well. This time I was smart and brought an advocate. On a fragrance note, I’m very much enjoying this Juicy Couture!
Good for you!!! and another option is tabling the meeting.
Yay!
Sneakin’ over today! Today it’s one of those damp earthy spring days, so I had to wear Clinique Aromatics Elixir. Cheers!!
You smell VERY appropriate for a damp spring day!
Perfect!! One of the best scents ever!
Nice pick!
“Picture”…sheesh!!!
SOTD is Heeley “Cardinal”.
Top: Flax, pink pepper and black pepper;
Mid: labdanum, incense and myrrh;
Base: vetiver, amber and patchouli.
A very nice incense with a sweet, almost gourmand undernote.
I’m actually wearing it as shifting themes into Holy Week (in a sort of ‘scent tourist’ rather than devotional way, it has to be said). If pressed to match a song to it, I think Frankie Goes To Hollywood “The Power of Love”, although I suspect the association is in my mind only. Perhaps a more fitting match would be Allegri’s “Miserere”, with its mix of the sacramental and the sweet.
I love Cardinal…you smell so good….Frankie Goes to Hollywood….taking me back to my teenage years 🙂
Hey! That is the scent that reminded Luca Turin of Brian Eno’s Music for airports! 🙂
Looked it up yesterday in The Guide when Nozknoz mentioned it and could not remember what scent LT compaired it with…
I am wearing La Chasse aux Papillons, which is not my favorite L’Artisan fragrance (Dzongkha!), but it will do.
I couldn’t do Dzongka (bug spray note) but I love La Chasse Aux Papillons…
You smell fantastic. I love both scents.
SOTD is 1932 EDT to go with my very feminine pink top, for Interantional Pink Day. I wanted to wear Aftelier Wild Roses, but that will have to wait until tonight when I will be meeting a friend for Lebanese food.
Lebanese food..now we are talking
Lebanese food is wonderful. Have a great meal!
Wearing my last drops of Parfum de Nicolai New York today. Rather than the Frank Sinatra version of New York, this scent smells more like Luck Be a Lady to me, also by Frank of course. My inner cosmopolitan sophistication is well camouflaged by my very Midwest, middle aged exterior 🙂
Perfect! I’ll listen to anything by Frank.
Listening to a mix of classical music – Morning from the Peer Gynt Suite among other things – and wearing DSH White Tulip. Green, earthy and just a little bit floral. Smells like spring in the woods to me.
Spring in the woods sounds perfect!
Still sticking with Ostara for my own personal Daffodil Week.
Yay for Daffodil week!, the daffs here are on their last legs, so sad when they don’t hang around for Easter. I’m so glad I’ve got Ostara & Le Temps d’une fete to stand in for them.
Ostara is good stuff. Penhaligons need to have a quiet word with themselves and bring it back.
Tom Ford Black Orchid Voile de Fleure, pairing with Eartha Kitt’s Uska Dara, which I just looked up. Apparently that was a huge song for her! I picked up a record with it in the dollar bin and was pleased. I think she’d wear something musky but still floral. I can’t imagine what she wrote on the 40’s and 50’s. Maybe Fracas?
Love Voile de Fleur.
Bummed I never got to try VdF. Once found a tester in a perfume shop in Rhodes Town but the sodding thing was empty!
It’s nice but not worth crying about. I actually like all the Orchids though.
Ah, Voile de Fleur. Wish this one had survived.
Wednesday!
1) Trying commute yesterday-I think I lost a part of my soul. First, a downtown building was threatening to crumble, then there was a shooting at a mall. Everything on mass transit was snarled.
2) SOTD: Anatomy of a Fragrance: Blue Fig. Verdict on this: I got it on sale for $20, and so it was worth it: It’s light, non milky, spicy fig fragrance that you can spray generously and not offend anyone.
3) Coffee, yogurt, gluten free granola; will be followed by a much needed 2 mile run at lunch.
1#:(
#2 🙂 I love when I find a “cheap thrill”….you have been wearing that one a lot!
#3…. inspiring…I mopped my kkitchen floors this morning and after all that huffing and puffing I am counting that as exercise…trying to lay off the sugar too..I might have to pick another user name soon as I am no longer indulging in much marzipan or chocolate these days
That was supposed to be #1 🙁
and kitchen with one K…yikes!!!
I have been wearing this quite a bit- but it has been perfect weather for it, honestly!
2 miles at lunch is about perfect- about a good 25 minutes or less. We have showers at work if needed, which is nice.
Song: Minnie Riperton’s Loving You.
Scent: Pure White Linen. It matches the music video and the “sunshine and singing birds” vibe really well. Refreshing and just a little sweet and fruity.
Layering option: Secretions Magnifique. Yes. I know. But before you judge me, please listen to the lyrics… 😛
She was so phenomenally talented… Thanks for this reminder.
It’s a good day to wear Van Cleef & Arpels Moonlight Patchouli.
It’s raining all day long here.
Good morning! Weird…I woke up this morning in yesterday’s clothes, unwashed face, unbrushed teeth, the whole shebang! I guess my bedtime routine was cut off short last night by SLEEP??? 🙂
SOTD: Hermes Eau de Pamplemousse Rose. Fresh and crisp…much fresher than I started out this morning! hee hee
Love that new photo! Looking good
PS
Have been keeping up with you on youtube and you are a shower gel aficionado
I keep 2 shower soaps in the shower, one is a foam that I also use as a shaving cream and one is a shower oil. Then I have one back up and that is it. That is my rule of thumb. Just in case you wanted another perspective. When I get that itch that I need something different I use my husbands bar soap or a little of my babies bath bubble soap, or wash with my shampoo.
I love it! I gave 10 bottles away yesterday at work, so that’s a start. On a strict NO BUY for shower gel for now too! 🙂
I am eyeing the Rituals (n/a) site for their limited edition. It has verbena and citrus notes which are two that I love. But I MUST finish my current shower foam before splurging…discipline 😉
I have had nights like that: Oh, I will JUST take a tiny nap….!
Exactly! The kids were in line to take showers in MY bathroom, and I guess at some point I gave up waiting my turn! LOL! Zzzzzzzzzz
LOL! You poor thing!
I like your new photo. Also I very much enjoyed your “stinkers” video.
I’m in ELDO Rossy de Palma which is reminding me a little of FM Superstitious, at least my memory of it. I could be totally off but I might need to reevaluate the FM since I love Rossy. My song pick is too obvious, maybe, but a great song and artist: Edith Piaf La Vie En Rose.
Great song..also a great movie. Marion rocked that role when she played Edith Piaf
That was a good movie. She was very convincing, I thought.
This is a fun clip!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6H8KAglepk
I’m wearing Estee Lauder Private Collection. I’ve had this scent since my teenage years, and I think I always will have a bottle on hand.
Like Youth Dew, Knowing and Spellbound to me!I adore them so much 🙂
My SOTD is Stephane Humbert Lucas Mortal Skin. If I were to pair it with a song it would be Frank Sinatra’s version of “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”.
My favorite Frank song 🙂
Mine too Robin.
I finished up my decant of Mohur EDP, so I’m smelling lovely today. I still have a couple small decants of extrait left so no need to worry.
Last night I bought myself a birthday gift bottle of Youth Dew Amber Nude on eBay. I forgot how wonderful it is until I pulled out my little decant and wore it Sunday night. I’m excited for the bottle to arrive!
What fun, congrats on your Bday gift!
Thanks!
I have been stalking Amber Nude myself on evilBay. I have never smelled it but somehow stumbled upon it in one of th dark alleys of Basenotes or Fragrantica. Somehow I missed this one when TF was still in cahoots with Lauder. I believe the TF/Lauder years were good years and will stand up to the test of time in some historical perfume book. 😉
Hey, let me send you a little when my bottle arrives. Email me at my username at g mail!
Still no ideas about perfume and song pairing; Infeel like I have to cram for an exam with no access to No Doz (which, for the record, I never took).
SOTD = 8 spray La Pausa
I am wearing my top x perfumes to try to narrow the list to ten.
I’m wearing Starck Peau de Pierre and I think it’s very nice. It’s not really smoky to my nose, I’d say it’s a creamy woody scent – I almost think I smell cardamom, but that might be an illusion. It’s my favourite of the three but I haven’t tried the other two on skin.
That was my favorite of the three too!
Reeking Havoc Day 23!
Surfing The Sample Sea:
Vert de Fleur
Blue Hyacinth
Dark Moon
Au Lait
My goodness – I like them all!
And Roxy Music! :
It was fun for a while
I could feel at the time
There was no way of knowing
Fallen leaves in the night
Who can say where they’re blowing
As free as the wind
Hopefully learning
Why the sea on the tide
Has no way of turning
More than this, you know there’s nothing
More than this, tell me one thing
More than this no, there’s nothing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOnde5c7OG8
excellent pairing
I’m glad you like Vert de Fleur!
Love Roxy music, one of my favourite bands!
The entire Siren album, Jerry Hall on the cover !!
Sentimental Fool…………
Fantastic! I am really loving these perfume music pairings as I am discovering so many new songs to love 🙂
I loooove that song! And Bryan Ferry ain’t bad either 😉
Wearing a combination of L’Ambre & Original Eau des Merveilles.
You smell great, of course!
Virus day 5, still can’t smell a thing.
Surfaced yesterday just long enough to smile at the EdM Bleue review here on NST! Looking forward to smelling it soon.
Want to share two rando things google sent me then go back to bed:
Just like a perfume reformulation, a cover of a song can be wonderful or terrible. I think this one is perfect. My hair stands on end at about 02:50, but look away if you never want to hear Radiohead’s Creep again (NSFW language)
https://vimeo.com/57903204
Cate Blanchett has super powers (NSFW language maybe)
http://tomandlorenzo.com/2017/04/cate-blanchett-at-louis-vuitton-masters-a-collaboration-with-jeff-koons-dinner/#prettyPhoto
Sorry about the language! Must be the meds. 🙂
I’m a creep,
I’m a WIDOW…….
Can’t listen to that song!
He says WIDOW not weirdo,
LOL.
One of my pet peeves.
That is all.
😉
Oh! I didn’t know that! Thanks, Bear.
Cate Blanchett is an awesome and versatile actress (love her performance in Blue Jasmine)!
I’ll shamelessly admit I can play Creep on the Ukelele. Hope you feel better soon!
Priceless :)…ever thought about a performance on youtube?
Good for you! I am jealous.
I listened to this song for the first time in its original version and the one you provided us…both are fantastic…another one to add to my list of new songs discovered on NST….and that pink guitar is adorable!
feel better!!
I’m sorry you are feeling poorly! Sending healing thoughts that you will get better soon!
Hope there is no day 6 of virus — get better!
Cate Blanchett is Hela cool. ????
Feel better soon!
I saw those pics of her too. She is stunning with such presence even in photos. Le sigh.
I sprayed on Aqua di Parma Iris Nobile because yesterday was so springy but I am freezing today in the cold rain so I will change to something – maybe Kyoto – when I get home. Song of the day might be Gordon Lightfoot’s “In the Early Morning Rain”.
I wore Rose Royale to bed last night! So beautiful!
I’m wearing LAP Bucoliques de Provence today. It performed better than my previous tests (that is disappearing after merely an hour). The warmer weather really brings out this scent.
It really is pretty, and so is BdP.
I’m wearing Putain des Palaces today. I think a good musical match is Sarah Vaughan’s “Whatever Lola Wants”
Perfect!
Thumbs up!
Wearing Lys Soleia today, although it is a little chilly for it and it is not blooming on my skin the way it did over the weekend when I wore it to the grocery store. But there are fluffy spring like clouds floating around in the sunny sunny sky, and I was sniffing the back of my hand at lunch, and so brought to mind the Joni Mitchell classic Both Sides, Now….
I cried my eye’s out when that song was played in a Mad Men episode.
Une Fleur de Cassie today, one of my favourite spring florals. Im not sure about what song to pair this one to, something extravagant and dramatic, maybe a Kate Bush song?, I thought Wuthering Heights, but obviously no Cassie/mimosas on the freezing winter Yorkshire moors! Will have to have a think.
Love ‘Good Year for The Roses’, Robin, I’m a big Elvis Costello fan, and that track is one of my favourite covers ever!
I adore EC, glad to see another fan. I could do a whole week of EC / perfume pairings.
And I like your book pairing! I could do a week of those too 🙂
????
Chiming in again with two random smelly tidbits:
1). A library patron this morning discovered a scented crayon in our crayon bin. No clue where it came from, but it’s scent was “dirt.” Yes, it REALLY smells like dirt.
2). Just got an email announcing that Sephora is now selling Jo Malone. Surprise! Also, 2 codes for minis with a $45 purchase.
Have you ever read the Robert Munsch picture book called Purple, Green and Yellow? The little girl gets smelly markers and draws lemons that smell like lemons, oranges that smell like oranges, roses that smell like oranges and cow plops that smell like cow plopss
What fun!! Do you remember who made the crayon?
Tiny rant here: I placed an order with Essenza-Nobile on March 4. One of the items was out of stock, but I received a notice on Monday that the shipment had been sent. I followed the DHL tracking and this morning it stated that my package had arrived in the destination country–the Czech Republic. Uh, no. I’ve sent an email…
Today I’m sampling FM Superstitious. The rose is very prominent on me, and I’m picky about rose. This one is not going to become a favorite. The overall impression I get is the scent of a rose guest soap in a not-too-high-end B&B.
Music pairing for today is Billy Joel’s That’s Not Her Style.
I got a lot more rose in that one too and found the drydown to be soapy. Funny pairing!
Ugh, so sorry about your wayward package!
Guérlain Eau de Cologne Impériale – Beyoncé Lemonade
Perfect!
Yep!
I have not sniffed that particular Guerlain but using my imagination…seems like a perfect combination.
SOTD – 10 sprays of Coromandel EDT. Added 2 to the usual 8 sprays for a good measure 🙂
10 sprays of Coromandel sound so right.
Youza! That’s intense. My max is 4. But honestly, I usually only wear 3. ????????
Wowee, the most I’ve sprayed Coromandel was 5 sprays. RESPECT!
That’s how to live! 🙂
Wearing Apres L’Ondee on wrist/wrist/elbow crease, and 31 Rue Cambon on remaining elbow crease. First time trying either one, from samples from my truly ridiculous TPC order when they were having their 25% off sale. This is sounding like a seriously dorky post, but there it is. 🙂
Both are EdT. Not the best choice for a pairing, as the Rue Cambon is outpacing the Guerlain. I had to reapply the Guerlain after 10 minutes, since it basically disappeared.
I can see how the Rue Cambon would be a great everyday, every event kind of choice, but neither one of these are really moving me! Maybe I’ll try them again in a few days….separately. Am I missing something, or are they just not for me??
I believe you may be reeking havoc! I approve 🙂
Hey, when Holly the Havoc Reeker notices, I must be doing something right! ????
Morning all. Thursday! Thank heavens that some days and nights roll on and away. Yesterday was pretty bad, but it’s over. Today I am working at home –yay!– wearing Rahat Loukoum, and its mellow sweetness is exactly the comfort I want. The opening is a vivid swoosh of an imagined Turkish delight– “imagined” because I certainly have never smelt and Turkish delight that smells as good as this. It’s Turkish delight elevated and idealised. Yum, yummier, yummiest! The drydown is just a gentle whisper of almond and cherry and sugar, as though I had perched in someone’s kitchen as they made Easter treats, and the smell of sugar and love had adhered to my clothes and skin. I’m too tired to think intelligently of a music pairing, but for some reason I have a desire to listen to Carmen. No, it’s OK, I completely agree–that’s a random connection made by a tired and worried brain.
Please, every, be careful of yourselves, be well, and be happy.
Glad you got a day at home, and you picked the perfect scent for it!
Carmen goes with everything. ????
What a day thus far. I go into work today far later than I normally do. I go to get the mail because I was expecting part of my STC order. I tear open the package and was greeted with a huge blast of Epic Man. Peering into the package the decant was broken. I just sent an e-mail to STC and see what they say. So I have just applied Shalimar for a little bit of comfort.
So sorry about your decant. Shalimar is always my go-to comfort scent. You smell great!
Biblioteca de Babel today….warm and woody and cinnamon vanilla. Not a FB love but enjoying the sample. It does make me think of libraries and all the wooden shelves. Maybe some Clair de Lune with it.
Who makes that one?
Fueguia 1833
It’s rainy and dour, again, and a day with teaching and meetings (again) so I’m busting out some stash drops and 1 spray of patchouli 24, because maybe soon it’ll be too hot for such a smoky combo?
That sounds like a great layering combo. Hope the day went ok!
Hump Day can’t get me down: last night I DVR-ed the single best X-Files episode (“Bad Blood”) and can now watch it whenever I please.
SOTD is MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 because the “woody breeze” FK created with ambergris and woods feels Viking-esque to me. I had to find something to pair with “Immigrant Song”, which has been stuck in my head since the weekend when I saw this:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v7MGUNV8MxU
Trust me, if you haven’t seen it, it’s worth watching for the end! ????
You smell perfect. That’s going to be my next FB splurge! And ha! Love the end of that!
Thanks! I’m going to make my manufacturer’s sample last as long as I can.
“Yeeesss!…” I’m not really a comic book person, but that got a big laugh out of me. ????
I hadn’t seen that trailer yet…wonderful. ????
Le Temps d’une Fête, still a sad lack of musical inspiration.
What does it matter when you smell great?
Another pick from the sample stash. SOTD = TF Oud Wood EdP. Darn it, I like this. My wallet does not.
I don’t want to drink my whiskey like you do
I don’t need to spend my money but still do
Well don’t stop now come on
Another drop now so come on
I want a lot now so come on
That’s why
That’s why
I say
Ma mama weer all crazee now…
Quiet Riot covering Slade. Inspired by the very true-to-life phenol note in the TF Oud Wood.
Try Gucci Guilty Homme Absolute Pour Homme. It reminds me of Oud Wood.
I’ll try to get a sniff of the Gucci then. Thanks Laura!
No scent for me…was sick all day today with a bad stomach flu which my visiting brother from SF had on Sunday. A three day incubation no less. 🙁
I haven’t feel this particular kind of sick in literally a decade or more. So I am choosing to be grateful that it is has been that long and hopeful that my poor little 3 year old doesn’t get it. She is actually almost 4 and has one had one episode of stomach troubles ear whole life so far if you get my drift…which I like to think is a splendid run. 😉
I hope you feel better soon, and very much hope your daughter doesn’t come down with it!
Oh no! I hope you recover asap and your daughter manages to skip it!
My son and my husband both had that! Was only about 30 hours, luckily.
Morning: Jasmin et Cigarette, for the nightflowering song Fake Empire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KehwyWmXr3U
Evening: My new Dame Gardenia Soliflore, the first from the house I’ve really fallen for, paired with Soul Coughing’s Soft Serve because it reminds me of my time in Georgia.
BTW this week I have come up with waaaay more song pairings than we have days…
that Dame Gardenia is GORGEOUS……
I think we need an extra week for the song/perfume pairings 🙂
I do too!
It could be a recurring item! Song tastes change over time….
