Our same-old-thing open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite spring floral, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Beautiful day in the Big Apple. Sunny, bright, but very windy. I am working today. Wearing Ostara, one of my favorites spring floral. Such a cheerful and happy scent. Have a great day everyone!
Sunny and bright here too — wish it were a little warmer but could be worse! Hope your work day goes well.
You smell fresh and lovly! Have a great work Saturday!
Did you see the picture for today’s thread before you choose your perfume, or did Robin just mentally willed you into wearing such a fitting scent?
It was a coincidence. I guess Robin mentally willed me into it. I sprayed Ostara very early in the morning ????
I picked the photo last night, so you were reading my mind!
Hope you can get outside today and hope work isn’t too bad. You smell very springy!
Thank you. Hope to be out while the sun is still out ????
Saturday! The sun is out, the sky is blue and the birds are singing. Le Labo Bergamote 22 to match this beautiful weather. I may need a fb of this one.
My lazy Saturday plans include getting my girls packed to head to Florida for a week with the grands and letting my husband grill me dinner. ????
What are everyone else’s favorite spring in a bottle scents?
Ostara is nice. The one you are wearing is gorgeous. Cristalle!
Also I enjoy tea scents in the spring..Le Labo The Noir 29 and Neroli Outnoire are some of my favorites.
I have a small decant of Thé Noir 29 on the way – so excited!
Some of my spring in a bottle favorites are Jour d’Hermes, Cristalle, TF Fleur de Chine, FM Eau de Magnolia, SMN Eva, Escale a Portofino, and Diptyque Philosykos. I know I’m forgetting a few.
Jour d’Hermes and Philosykos are also on my spring in a bottle list!
I love 1000 Flowers Fleur no 1 in the spring…also Reglisse Noire.
I really really like Commodity Mimosa for spring.
Love Diorissimo for spring time.
Spring in a bottle? PdN Le Temps d’un Fete (enabler pin to mals) and Ava Luxe Fig Leaf.
Gorgeous day. Promise of there being COLOR in the world again, with bits of green and lots of blue. Wearing Fleur de Cassie Frederic Malle for two days and have gotten lots of compliments.
I’m afraid to wear mine again because the last time I wore this, it reeked of cumin. Not a good Reeking Havoc a la Holly, but bad reek.
Hi Hajusuuri – I don’t get that. And since my husband likes it, he’s definitely not getting cumin (which to him is dirty socks)!
I know what you mean, I had that experience with this perfume but not recently. Maybe you just need a warmer weather for it? (And I hate cumin)
I found that I got the sweaty note less on freshly showered skin-or was it more. Can’t remember exactly but it wasn’t consistent.
SOTD = Jo Malone Tobacco & Mandarin
Loving its soft citrus and hints of tobacco. I only wore 2 spritzes because I will be going to the grocery with scent-phobe mom. It’s probably not appropriate for this cold windy day but what the heck!
I’m planning on going to the launch of Superstitious at the FM Greenwich Avenue boutique. The good news: I was promoted from riff-raff to not riff-raff so I don’t need to shell out the entrance fee (credit for future purchase…heh, I’ve spent enough there). The bad news: I was hoping to just spend the day in NY but I have an event in our NJ office; not bad…I just need to plot out my commute back to the City.
Most swap and post Splitmeet split packages (Moonlight Patchouli) will be mailed out this weekend.
Now I just need to pick a fruity fragrance to include in one of the swap packages. What’s your favorite fruity fragrance?
Have a great weekend all!
wow! how did you get invited to that? Have fun and let us know your thoughts
See above “I’ve spent enough there” :-). It is open to the public but they normally have to oay an entrance fee good for a future purchase.
Tobacco and mandarin sound nice. Jo Malone recently appeared in Poland in Douglas perfumeries chain, no idea if this one will become available as well.
So you got Moonlight Patchouli? I also did a split of it few weeks ago
Yes. And you get an enabler’s pin!
I’m going to review it shortly
Oh, to be promoted to Not RIff Raff- how cool indeed!
Fruity fragrances usually for me is either some combo of citrus OR roses+berries. Lately, I have discovered fig notes, which I truly like and will be wearing for the rest of this chilly spring!
Eau de Pamplemousse et Rose- damn, that’s good
Infusion d’Iris absolue- lovely citrus+iris perfume, wish I had discovered long before hand!
Great suggestions! Figs tend to be iffy for me, especially the milky fig type. That said, I like to EAT figs.
I got the same promotion! I did RSVP so hopefully will see you there if I can make it.
Rhubarb Ecarlate is fun as is Fazzolari Jimmy
I also rather like Mark Buxton Sleeping with Ghosts (also rhubarb)
Rhubarb! I always thought rhubarb is a vegetable but I see how it can smell fruity!
I think rhubarb is technically a vegetable, but you eat it like a fruit, ie stewed, with cream or custard, yum, I fancy some homemade rhubarb crumble with custard or ice cream now!
Just don’t fall for the psychological pressure to maintain your “status”: buy only if you see (well, smell) something you like
Fruity… Pulp immediately jumps to mind. Une Rose Vermeille. Enchanted Forest.
Good caution, Undina. I tend to be “loyal” to brands / stores for the benefits and if that equates to status, then so be it
Hi hajursuuri, my favourite spring/summer, (and Autumn come to that) fruity perfumes, are: Journey woman (apricots), vintage Yvres edt, diorella, parfum de Therese, and for black current, L’ombre dans L’eau edp. I also loved Jardin sur Le to it, when I sampled it last summer.
Le Parfum de Therese is probably my favorite; ancestor Diorella is perfect for spring.
Second Le Parfumede Therese and Diorella!
Ugh… I can’t type on this IPad…
Thanks for the suggestions. My Un Jardin Sur le Toit just went to a new home today! I have a travel spray of Le Parfum de Therese and will need to re-smell!
Damn that spell check. ‘tot’ not ‘to it’!
Oh and any one who loves rhubarb and scented candles, I can highly recommend the Juniper berries & pink Rhubarb from the National Trust, they are reasonably priced at under £20 too!
Btw, I took your suggestions and have the rhubarb and Sur le Toit in the swap package!
Hmm, fruity – Byredo Pulp? I just got to smell Superstitious this morning, only from a tiny dabber sample, but it smells good, not too animalic on me. I think a split of this one would be in order.
What a beautiful spring day. Blue sky, sun, white, pink blossoms and yellow and white narcisses everywhere!
But I was not in the mood for a light spring scent. I needed something solid and a bit sturdy. Wearing gorgeous Arso (by ProFumum Roma).
Have a great weekend!
I just love that name…ARSO….makes me smile whenever someone mentions it
Haha, yes it’s quite a particular name. In Italian it means ‘burnt’, but you probably already knew that!
A lot of scents from ProFumum Roma have short and memorable names. I tried 4 so far, but I also think they make interesting perfumes, a bit blunt (I need blunt once in a while), but of good quality.
Now thats a brand that should offer a nice sample coffret. I’d buy it in a heartbeat…if reasonably priced of course
You will have a lot of scents to play with when it is Italian week on NST
Beautiful sunny day..I love love Spring weather
SOTD L’artisan Batucada
Finished the 3rd season of Grace and Frankie last night. Love that show. Now looking for something else to watch on Netflix.
Oh I will have to add that one to my list on Netflix!
I’m too cheap to pay for netflix. And speaking of cheap and $s, I need to finish my tax return. It appears I gave Uncle Sam an interest-free loan.
LOL! We don’t have regular tv or cable so it is Netflix and Hulu for us. What are you going to buy with that refund? Hee! Hee!
Already spent ( I still have to pay for vacation)
Isn’t it funny the different things we are cheap about? I will not spend much on perfume but we pay for cable, Netflix (dvd and streaming), Mhz and Tivo. We WILL be entertained no matter what.
I will pay for perfume but hate paying for shoes.
Ha, I’m still spending more than I really should on perfume, but I don’t own a television. Although it’s more the time sink that bothers me about it.
You’re “too cheap” to pay $7.99 per month? You include samples into your friendly swaps that are more expensive than that!!! We, the recipients of those goodies, should probably get you a pre-paid month each
It’s paying for another service for which I will not get my money’s worth as there are so many entertainment alternatives.
Grace and Frankie is worth the Netflix charge
Love Grace and Frankie!
So envious of you all with your sunny days…the rain seems to never end around here lately.
I’ll just pretend it is a pretty spring day in Pichola.
And the wind! Cancelling ferries, oh my.
Perfect perfume for it!
Superstitious review, courtesy of Mother Nature:
Walked around my property assessing the hydrangeas (I didn’t kill them despite massive pruning, the curled leaves are emerging) , the dogwood has its tiny white blossoms and will be symmetrical, manually sawing the stragglers away.
Two! Huge! Bumblebees! would not leave me alone.
Zooming and swooping, I’m happy to see their presence.
Vetiver and skanky jasmine today, I have some errands to run, my waiting public will weigh in then. LOL.
Triple strength coffee.
My grandmother, who always had beautiful hydrangeas, fertilized them with (probably only double-strength) coffee grounds. They love acidic soil.
Have a great Sat.!
I use coffee grounds for the rose bush.
Just a guess, but thinking Bear has coffee grounds to experiment with in the garden!
I love bumblebees.
Envious of your dogwood. There was a small dogwood tree in our back yard when we bought our house, but it was sickly and almost never bloomed. Got worse and worse over the next couple of years and I finally had to put it out of its misery. I suspect it just stays too wet in our yard. I’ve switched to Japanese maples and they’re doing quite well … but no flowers.
Dogwood here didn’t survive the winter last yr, so it was replaced with a weeping cherry. Very interested to see if it blooms. Forsythia hedge is starting to fill in!
Wait a minute, are you saying Superstitious is skanky jasmine? Yikes! My tolerance for skanky is NONE.
Ha! Good luck with this one then ???? I don’t mind a bit of sweaty funk, but it was pretty noticeable to me and a bit beyond my comfort zone. Of course, YMMV.
Let’s see what my honker detects on Thursday. Hope to see you there!
It doesn’t sound like perfume you or I would enjoy… Let me know if you try it and change your mind.
Hajusuuri, I go into detail on the Wednesday 4-5-17 SOTD. Forewarned is forearmed, my friend.
I’m sure SOMETHING will catch your fancy at the Malle event.
I’ve been warned! Thanks, Bear!
No affiliation to this company but I thought of you immediately when I stumbled upon this-
Thanks for that, chocolatemarzipan8 !
I thought you would get a kick out of it cause I sure did! Love your triple strength coffee and for reminding us daily to seize the day
Chilly and very windy here, but not overcast as it has been for the past few days. Am glad I’m skipping the boys’ track meet to go to my cousin’s baby shower… she’s 38, and it’s her first. We’re all so excited.
Then community chorus concert this evening and tomorrow afternoon. This is a 50s/60s retro pop music concert designed to make some money for the group and provide a community entertainment event. Bleah. I mean, look, I like the Beatles as well as anybody (and maybe more than most), but if I want to hear “Blue Moon” and “Sixteen Tons,” I’ll just put ’em on Spotify like a *normal* person. I kinda had enough of the show choir stuff in high school.
I want those daffodils! Wearing Ostara and a dab of Dame Soliflore Narcissus.
Dame Soliflore Narcissus…mmmm….pure perfection.
Yes, but I’ve also been thinking there’s something sad about people just streaming stuff rather than producing music together themselves. When you reflect that for hundreds of millennia, humans only had the entertainment they produced themselves, and how different that experience was qualitatively, and how hard it becomes to appreciate anything that you can do yourself, in comparison to the digitally altered, one in a million talent perfection available at the touch of a button, I think we are losing something at the core of our being.
Not that I’d want to go to that concert, either, but I keep feeling I need to do more, e.g., get back to drawing rather than just looking at stuff on the internet or in museums. So, at least if you have to go you can feel you’re part of something fundamentally human, Mals.
This is so true, but I do think, believe it or not, that YouTube encourages more kids to learn instruments, because they see what other “amateurs” are doing / learning / creating.
Not really related, but there is nothing that makes me happier than hearing strains of my son playing the penny whistle from the other room when I go to bed. If I’m lucky he’s working on Loch Lomond, but I have to be careful not to ask him to play it or I won’t hear it, ha. Was thinking that when he goes away to college I will have to find some kid playing it on YouTube, and program the computer to play it from his room every night.
I love Loch Lomond. My son’s junior high men’s choir did a very nice rendition of it. He said it was his favorite song of the ones they were doing, which warmed my heart. Maybe he has a little bit of old soul in him somewhere.
Good point about Youtube encouraging people to do things. So many good instructional videos on every possible topic, too.
Yes, kids growing up…
Congrats to your cousin!
Combined Assam of India and Black Flower Mexican Vanilla in the tiniest amount for yoga this morning. I really like this pairing.
If Oakland is reading here is another mystery show I recommend to you-
The main characters are intelligent and witty and the landscapes and scenery are too die for (no pun intended!)
Also recommending Phyrne Fisher Mysteries….she is also intelligent and gorgeous and I love the period pieces that she wears.
I am also currently enjoying Father Brown mystery series for the witty characters and bucolic country life portrayed.
and thanks to you and Robin for your recommendation yesterday, I added it to my list on netflix.
And Rosewood just got added to Netflix….he is gorgeous so you might enjoy that too-LOL!
I adore the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries! The books are equally great and zany, but the costumes on the show are just exquisite. And you’re so, so right about Rosewood. I think I missed the plot of the couple of episodes I caught just staring at his beautiful face! But now that it’s on Netflix…
oh I will have to hunt down those books at the library….thanks for the rec! And Rosewood…..intelligent, in shape and gorgeous…and that voice!!!
Just de-lurking to say I’m really appreciating these mystery recommendations!
If I can think of more I will keep adding them
this is an Argentinian show and it is excellent…
also, Wallander (the Swedish version) is great too.
Murdoch Mysteries (turn of the century Toronto)
Republic of Doyle (set in St John’s, Newfoundland)
Longmire (set in Wyoming)
Death in Paradise (Caribbean)
Not a mystery but I really enjoyed it “Halt and Catch Fire”….drama based on the history of the beginnings of personal computers
Engrenage /Spiral (French)
the Glades (Florida)
Loved Hinterland, can’t wait for the next one. It is very dark, though. And will add Foyle’s War, which is more on the cozy side, and Vera, which is somewhere in between.
Another good French one — Witnesses
And in Swedish, Sandhamn Murders
Yes, Hinterland is definitely much darker than any of the others I have recommended but very poignant and thought provoking which I think is why I like it….and thank you so much for the recs for the other shows!!!! Adding them to my list! I happen to love the foreign ones…….
I second all the recommendations. I also like Murdoch Mysteries.
Speaking of mysteries, if anyone is looking for a new mystery series to read, I happened across the Tannie Maria series set in South Africa. Tannie Maria is a middle-aged widow who writes the advice column for her local newspaper, and since she loves food, her advice always seems to involve at least one good recipe (and they are, forgive the pun, to die for). The first one is called “Recipes for Love and Murder.” The setting and characters make a nice change from the English county house mysteries I’ve been reading.
oooo! food and mystery…right up my alley! Thanks for that rec! Just wrote it down
Who is the author? Sounds great!
Oops! Sally Andrews is the author.
I just looked it up and it is similar to Alexander McCall Smith’s No 1 Ladies Detective Agency…which means I should really love this series you recommended as AMS is by far my most favorite author.
It’s gotten much colder and more gloomy if I compare last weekend to this one. Oh well, spring is a lady of the mood.
I’m wearing Arbole Arbole by Hiram Green today. It suits the weather.
I’d like to explore some more mimosa fragrances, would appreciate some recommendations there.
I love Caron’s Montaigne; it has a nice spicy note (cardamom I think).
I think YSL Cinéma has a mimosa note. It’s available at discounters and very reasonably priced.
YSL Cinema is a nice mimosa/amber.
Yes I wore Cinema Thursday and it is very lovely.
1. Diptyque did a limited edition Essences Insensees Mimosa from 2014–if you can find that one.
2. Also, Jo Malone does a really nice one–Mimosa & Cardamom.
3. Frederic Malle Une Fleur de Cassie is wonderful.
Second all these plus LAPs Mimosa pour moi.
Ditto on these recs!
Thanks for all the suggestions
At long last Yves Rocher put Rose Oud online, so I snapped up a bottle unsniffed. Did I need a second rose oud? Possibly not, but it was at a good price so I wasn’t going to wait until they offered a mini. Did I need three more bottles of shower gel? Well no…
Nice! I don’t get any oud in it but it’s a nice, jammy rose. And what is this “need” word? Unfamiliar with that one.
Wearing Santal Massoia for a funeral – I needed something comforting, but I really didn’t want to blast anyone with my scent. And I don’t have anything with more intimate sillage than an Hermessence.
Have a good weekend everyone.
So sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort in your perfume and it brings good memories of your student.
Thank you. He was a remarkable person, and will be missed terribly. I know perfume will comfort me (and all my students who need hugs) over the next difficult months.
Wafting Jicky, although this says more summer than spring to me. I realized this morning while trying to decide what perfume to wear that I have quite a few spring/summer scents. Hmm… must correct that imbalance.
I love your new avatar…is it white daffodils or LOTV?
I do not think it’s either of two. But let’s wait for Rappleyea.
You’re right! It’s a close up of the blooms of the catalpa tree, which is native to Ky. They look like small orchids and smell fantastic. They’re not blooming quite yet; I jumped the gun!
Unidina’s eyes are MUCH better than mine
Thanks! See below…
I love Jicky..thanks to you
Watch your mailbox.
Its my older little monkey who does a lot of watching..everyday..”momeeeeeeee did you check mail?” In her broken 2 year old babble english
You smell wonderful. I love Jicky.
Happy weekend everyone! I’m off to my sister’s to celebrate my niece’s birthday, and the end of my husband’s radiation therapy. Last year I took my niece to Barney’s for a make-over, and her first real bottles of perfume – FM Eau de Magnolia and Tiziana Terenzi Al Contrary. Can’t really top that so I’m not even going try. Yesterday my husband ate his first solid food in over a month – a chocolate chip cookie. He said it was painful, but so worth it.
God Bless your husband! And have a great Saturday!
Thank you! We’re back and it was a lovely day.
Glad to hear that his radiation is done-really something to celebrate. Chocolate chip cookie is a good place to start!
Pretty soon you and hubby will be back to looking for the best fried chicken (I think that was you). If you have an Asian grocery store near you, there’s Mochi Ice Cream – little balls of ice cream covered in Mochi (made with sticky rice flour).
Yes, that was us! Don’t know if there will be much fried chicken in our anti-cancer eating future, but we both love mochi ice cream.
Wonderful to hear your husband is making progress. I bet that tasted like the best cookie he ever ate
What great news attached to a simple cookie. I’m so happy for both of you.
A sunny and warm day in the Mudlands, and so TOMK and I went a-strolling down to the Cadbury factory shop to buy buckets of chocolate for my German co-workers. Then I went off to get in the wine stocks (my self-imposed ban ends at Easter) and a much-needed haircut.
SOTM was Chanel “Sycomore”, inspired by Robin’s vetiver post.
Notes are vetiver, sandalwood, aldehydes, tobacco, violet, cypress, juniper, pink pepper and spicy notes. This wore off in the course of all that walking.
SOTD is Jesus del Pozo “Arabian Nights”
Top: rose and thyme;
Mid: cedar, sandalwood, guaiac wood, patchouli, vetiver and saffron;
Base: oud, labdanum, amber and musk.
I like it – it’s the rose-oud for me. Rose-ouds are ten-a-penny (in ubiquity if sadly not in actual price) so don’t rush to try this one if you’ve already found yours.
Commando so far because I woke with a splitting headache. Hoping ibuprofen and massive doses of caffeine will knock it out soon. Not sure what the SOTD will eventually be, but all the talk of spring in a bottle scents is inspiring.
I first read “Commando” as “Coromandel”!Lol!Funny how the brain works.Hope you feel better asap!X
I did the same and was about to write that is a lovely scent
I did the same thing just now (Sunday morning) – misread my own comment. Too funny!
Hope it is fading by now!
I hope you feel better soon.
Headache finally departed late yesterday afternoon, so I wore Sugi at bedtime, and this morning am in Bel Ami. Cedar with tree sap versus cedar with leather – I love them both!
Saturday at work. Swamped with files. Boise Torride.
Hope you have dug yourself out of the files, which I first read as flies — which might be worse?
Beautiful spring day here. Running around doing errands and getting stuff for my bathroom remodel (desperatly needed) dipped into my samples and grabbed Chinatown. It was supposed to be a new sample but when i opened it, it was 3/4 gone! Boo….sigh….
Chinatown ..perfect for a beautiful spring day!
you smell wonderful
Chinatown was one of my first sprays when I was reunited with my collection after the move!!You smell fabulous!
That’s interesting because when I was going through my samples there was not much in my Chinatown one and I think I’ve only worn it a couple of times-and micro doses at that.
1) Discovered ants! Silly things! So got plenty of colony killer bait traps and set them. Drink deeply, my friends, drink deeply.
2) The ground is still too cold to plant summer blooming bulbs, so am gonna trim the boxwood out front and the rhodendrons as well.
3) Picking up my console table from the store, and will take down the tacky blinds from my patio door and install drapery rod instead with beautiful drapes. Am testing pink paint in the bedroom.
4) Am in Anatomy of a Fragrance Fig, which is a greener, fresher version of Philosykos.
Setting traps, cutting bushes, etc. … I’d be curious to see your list for a busy Saturday if this one is considered “lazy”
Yeah. My lazy Saturday mostly involves chair, good book, tea.
that’s a “PERFECT” day for me.
I was thinking the same, Undina – Ede makes me feel most unindustrious. The most I “did” yesterday was my nails.
Sounds like a great day!
Hate ant infestations!
Thinking of you today and your healthy eating habits…I roasted brussel sprouts, steamed asparagus, diced red, orange and yellow peppers and cubed up a fresh pineapple
I wish you could bottle your energy because I would buy it!
Lush Lust, because you guys made me crave it. Wonderful perfume for a Saturday morning walk, very present, lol. Beautiful Fall day here, too. Sunny and windy. Taking advantage of the sun to wash some clothes – oh, the glamour!
I need to smell this! I’m sure you smell lovely to any passersby on your walk!
I don’t like the name, but I love the fragrance!
It is VERY potent.
I could smell it before I showered, 24 hours after applying, and the warm water intensified it.
You smell great, solanace!
I’m wearing You Or Someone Like You, the new fragrance based on the book by Chandler Burr.
Has any one else tried this?
I like it. To me, it opens rhubarb-y and minty. But, the kind of mint that grows wild in the backyard and smells kind of earthy and herbal-y.
I love to hear any other opinions.
I did try it. I thought it smelled like a minty salad!
Yes! I sprayed it on yesterday in a store and I liked it a lot. Mint and other herbs, something rose-like and lots of green and hints of soil. Especially the first hour I kept sniffing my wrist. I sure will try it again!
I wish it had a little more oomph though, i missed a hint of skank or spice, or a bit of woods to give it more base.
But the upside of the cleanliness, it’s probably suitable for office spaces/work meetings.
I sniffed it, thought “nice”, and now a week later really crave it. I think it’s a great summer scent.
Interesting that Chandler Burr chose to create a mint fragance. I remember he raved about Heeley Mint Fraiche in his old NYT column. Other mint fragrances have not worked for me, but I’m curious to try this.
When the mint in a scent reminds me of breath mints, toothpaste or sweet cocktails, it a big NO!
But like Sunnlitt said, this mint is of the garden/backyard variety and it did not bother me.
I also thought it smelled more herbal minty and very refreshing. It reminded me of Herba Fresca.
I used to love a minty smelling plant that grew in shaded grass when I was kid, before people started using herbicides to get nothing but grass. That kind of thing would be great!
To be clear, he loved the Heeley and gave it 5 stars.
Saturday eve!How my life has changed…ten years ago this time on a Saturday I would be deciding my outfit to go clubbing.Tonight I Johanob-approved cleaned the new place! It’s amazing how the previous inhabitant NEVER cleaned on top of the kitchen cupboards…Lol.SOThisWonderfulTask TF Violet Blonde. Two complete strangers complimented me earlier in the mall on it-I did NOT overspray!Lol.Bumped into my cute newly-wed(two weeks!!) neighbors at the mall as well, interesting that the hubby’s name is Hanò,and I am Johanò!Lol.Happy Weekend All you fabulous-smelling people!X
Looks like you’re settling in. We await your Perfume Room reveal. Maybe you can guest-vlog in the Perfume Nerd channel!
Haha!That’s a cool idea,the guest-vlogging.The OCD in me wants the perfume-room to be PERFECT,so it’s going to be a while!But excited to start finally.X
TF Violet Blond is one of the most complimented perfumes in my wardrobe. You smelled great!
Congratulations on the task completion! I do not like this type of house work but whenever I do it the way I think it should be done I feel pride of achievement (and pain in my right shoulder ).
I hate these mundane tasks myself, but I’m restless and feel uncomfortable in my own space until I know it is done MY way!Lol.Funnily enough, they got a pre-occupation cleaning service in,I hope whoever uses them in future NEVER recommend them.
Nice to meet you Johano !
And here I thought your name was Johan and ob was a medical degree!
Goes to show, assume nothing!
Hahaha Bear!No,no medical degree(nursing yes),and I’d be a terrible OBGYN anyway…lol!X
Funny but I thought the same thing…falsely assumed your name was Johan..the O representing your middle name and the B representing your last name.
I’m glad you’ve found a place to settle, and can’t wait to hear about your new home as you make your perfect nest. So excited to hear about the perfume room!
Thanks Sistine,it’s an exciting time for me,setting up my new home.X
People who never cleaned on top of cabinets, you say? Who does that… cough.
Not to change the subject, but you smell fantastic!
Lol,well I am probably not gonna do it again soon myself, but at least I know it will be MY dirt on top of the cupboards!Lol!Smelling good doing these kinds of things is a reason to breathe…X
My significant other is a neat freak who suffers from allergies so that is exactly the sort of thing he would do too! (although I can’t complain as he does most of the cleaning in the house-LOL! even the toilets!!!!)
PSA: I have 4 new manufacturer’s samples of Diptyque Kimonanthe if anyone wants them. I’ll send them out. Just email me at madtolive88510 at gee male
samples have been claimed.
It is gorgeous out today! Went out on an errand run in CdG Ouarzazate-not very springy but not heavy either and not very long lasting, though I mind a short half-life much less these days.
I sprayed down a gnat fest near the drain by the back door with a homemade solution of neem, clove, oregano, and rosemary oils and that’s all I can smell right now. Neem oil smells like garlic, so if it doesn’t inhibit the gnats, at least no vampires!
Did it work?
We get weird gnat infestations in the early fall, every year. Have never found anything that works. Haven’t even really figured out where they’re coming from.
It did reduce it from swarm status to just some gnats flying around. They seem to spawn overnight! Crazy. I made the solution last year when we had a severe black aphid infestation of a shrub in the yard. I did have to use commercial pesticides first but then kept them at bay with the solution.
The gnats seem to appear where the water and leaves collect. Maybe they lay eggs in there.
Thanks! I knew that about water & leaves, but we don’t really have any sort of drainage problem near my house that I have been able to discover so far. It’s incredible how quickly they swarm.
Well, a couple of gnats met an untimely end in my hot chocolate tonight. A moment of silence please…????
Score: Hot chocolate 1 – Gnats 0.
It is cold post rain here today – such a weird weather. La Fin du Monde is my SOTD
Stuck at work today and wearing Jicky right now. After work, I have dinner plans and will wear vintage Bal.
To finish off my week of jasmin I chose L’Enlèvement au Sérail today. Busy, sunny day.
Wearing the gone but not forgotten Gucci Envy – one of the perfumes that smell like spring to me. I regret only buying a 50ml bottle when it was still available and it seems to a weird sediment has built up in the spray bottle I own, as I’ve discovered lately, but the scent itself is fine. Oh Gucci, you should have kept this one in production instead of making all the bland stuff you’re marketing now!
Totally agree. I have a travel spray and I wish I had more!
Totally agree. Envy is absolutely perfect. I really miss it.
Good morning all! It’s autmun here, but I feel quite spring-like today. The sun is shining, and I’m largely recovered from a cold. It’s been extremely wet here, the remnants of the cyclone that hit northern Australia came across the Tasman to New Zealand.
I’m wearing a spray of AG’s Le Chèvrefeuille as I contemplate a quiet Sunday.
Oh, you smell lovely!
Hello fragrant friends…..so late to the party that I missed posting my ultimate jasmine yesterday. I wore a very old Occitaine jasmine (maybe 20+ years?). Just a straight up jasmine that still sings.
Today I ran out to the library in La Fille de Berlin and had to write it down for the librarian who wanted some…..happy to share perfume goodness. Still cold and windy, but sunny here….spring is coming. I have faith! Enjoy the weekend everybody, smell good and have fun.
I went to the library last night and took out a book. Love spending time there
It’s spring’s last gasp here (90 yesterday, 73 today), so I’m enjoying what is probably my last chance to wear Ambre Russe for many months to come.
Yes, Florida and Ambre Russe have a very limited time together. Enjoy it while you can, it’s a boozy beauty ????
I’m wearing a touch of Jacomo Eau Cendree. It’s not exactly right, being as it is slightly masculine for my comfort. (I’d rather smell it on a guy.) But it’s exceptional and the weather will soon be too hot to even think about it.
I’m actually feeling crabby about the approach of summer and having to wear light scents or none at all for months at a time. (It gets appallingly hot and humid in the DC area.)
I share your feelings about the coming heat and humidity – especially since we had about five days total of anything approaching winter. The bugs will be murder and the no-see-ums lurve me!
I live in a city whose slogan is “famously hot”. Needless to say, summer is disgusting here. Light scents are my best friends.
I’m also crabby about the approaching summer.
I am the opposite as I am always cold and HATE the winter and snow for that reason…will be looking forward to the approach of warmer weather.
Ha, I was afraid I might be reviled for saying that – glad to see I’m in such good company!
Now seriously wondering if there is a higher than percentage of cool weather lovers among perfumistas! I suffer when deprived of my ambers, leathers, rich woods, incense, dark chypres, spicy orientals, etc.!
Totally on the Cool Weather Team. Florida is literally the pits 9 months of the year and the humidity makes me an absolute slug. Saps my energy, turns my mood sour, and in general makes me feel at odds with the world. The last 2-3 “summers” have been incredibly brutal. I’m heading to higher altitudes this summer if possible.
Had a flute choir concert this afternoon, a spray of Dame Sky Father cause it’s easy. If we end up going out tonight I need something bigger… into the sample stash I will dive.
I so love digging into my sample stash. I’m going to have to order some more soon.
A perfect spring day here and a lovely afternoon of lunch and the ballet with my sister, cousin, and aunt. Wearing No 5 L’Eau. So so pretty (albeit fleeting).
Last night was my son’s prom. He and his girlfriend looked so beautiful. We took some really wonderful pictures at the park downtown across from the civic center where the prom was being held. Feeling a bit melancholy. Happy to see him grow up but makes me a little sad as well though…
You all smell fabulous!
That sounds like a wonderful afternoon. It’s so great to hear that your son’s prom was magical – bittersweet that he’s growing up, but incredible that he’s turned out so awesome.
Hello and a good day to NST everywhere. I’m wearing Fate today, superstitiously, because despite the dark portents on the box, the perfume has always smelled like golden light to me. I need the light desperately today: our dear Dakkie is very ill. We’re waiting on blood results to know dactyl what we’re dealing with. I feel remarkably unsettled, but at least I’m surrounded by the soft smells of pollen and spring.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Sending good thoughts for Dakkie.
So sorry to read about your Dakkie. I hope that he feels better soon.
Poor Dakkie! I hope whatever he has is treatable and your vet can give him something to keep him comfortable.
Sending positive thoughts to Dakkie and his humans.
Thinking of your Dakkie.
So sorry Dakkie’s feeling poorly. Hope the blood tests point to something easily treatable.
Sending positive thoughts for Dakkie.
Oh no! I’m so upset to read this! I’m inordinately fond of your Dakkie although I’ve never met him- he is of a very similar simple nature as my darling Fergus. And so soon after Isabella. I hope whatever ails him aside from his broken heart is treatable. Sending healing thoughts.
Thoughts and prayers to you and Dakkie.
Sending healing wishes for your Dakkie! I feel like he is also a part of this NST community.
I hope your Dakkie is feeling better soon. I’m so sorry to hear about this.
Good morning, all. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and words about poor Dakkie, a Dak who is recovering this morning from a crisis brought on, according to the vet, by a broken heart. We’re doing our best for him, but I have to say, I wonder if we should be. We love him very much, but he’s pining for Isabella and we can’t console him. He lost nearly 2 kilograms in the last 2 weeks — a quarter of his weight– and the crisis was dreadful to see. The vet’s blunderbuss treatment revived him, but long term damage to kidneys and bowel are strong possibilities. We wait now, to see what happens.
In the meantime, work is still there, and though I haven’t slept for 2 days, I have to find some energy because I teach heavily today. I’m wearing prettiness this morning, Traversee du Bosphore, one of my favourites. Perfect for hope, for warmth on a miserable day, for being quietly present. It’s cheering me up as much as a perfume can.
Be well, everyone.
I’m so sorry to hear about Dakkie. I hope you can get him back to his normal-ish self. I’m another who is terribly fond of the cat I’ve never met.
I’m so sorry, waterdragon. Here in the states we have a pet version of the Bach Flowers Rescue Remedy. It’s worth a shot if you can find it in a health food store or specialty pet supply shop there. Sending hugs and comfort to you all…
Poor bereft Dakkie!! I’m so sorry to know that he’s sick, in addition to grieving for Isabella. I hope he’ll make a full recovery. I hope, too, that you’ll be able to get some rest, and that your own grief and burdens will ease a bit day by day…
Sending lots of healing vibes for Dakkie!
I’m wearing Amouage Opus VIII today. I found it yesterday during a sample search and realized it also has jasmine. It’s a tad screechy at the start but settles down into something quite pleasant with heavy white florals. This morning I attended the Bat Mitzvah of a close friend who was in the service with seven other adults. It was very beautiful and interesting to me (a non-Jew). I really had to admire her for tackling so much along with her many other volunteer activities (she is retired).
That sounds like a wonderful service – there’s something about people embracing their faith later in life that is very inspirational.
Ava Luxe Honey Oil is my SOTD. Such a luscious fragrance.
Busy errand day today, and tomorrow will be a long day performing with my local concert band in honour of those who fought at Vimy Ridge.
I read somewhere that some people get to relax on their days off. Any truth to that ????
Never heard of honey oil, but the name name has me hooked. ????
Hello, hello, hello…. just got back from a perfume testing extravaganza with Pixel at Tigerlily in the Mission. I have about 20 different perfumes on, overwhelmed a bit by a tarry, peaty, “pure” attar oil concoction by Andy Tauer. Too broke just now to buy anything, but temptations included: North by Mikmoi, Miyako by Auphorie, For Walks by Blocki, Zelda by En Voyage, Ceremony by Mirus, and Bande À Part by Jolie Laide. . . . And there was one that has not yet been released by Olympic Orchids and I am spacing on the name but I think it had a horse in the imagery–it was a greenish scent, with tomato leaf and possibly hints of ginger? that was just “wow!”
Andy Tauer was there, as was Ellen Covey, Shelley Waddington, and others.
Have I made you jealous?
Happy to see your mood is better, Oakland Fresca!
Not jealous, but my younger self would have been.
Now, but on something you’ve been saving for a special occasion and celebrate.
Because every moment is special !!!
(No, I did not channel Hallmark just now………..yeesh !)
put on, not but on ——-where is that editing feature??!?!
And I just skyped with my son… the sun is out… and I am wearing a wee bit too much LOTV, but hey!
Ooooh, I want to know more about the Olympic Orchids one! It sounded like you reeked havoc today!
Just emailed Ellen Covey to get the name!
Reeking havoc is right, wow was I saturated in scents when I got home. Such a fun afternoon! We had nice chats with Mr Mikmoi, Ms Jolie-Laide, Shelley Waddington, Mr Tauer, Ms L’aromatica, and of course Antonia.
For everyone who ordered Tauers: I got yer stuff! Will be contacting you once I figure out the shipping. And you should all thank cazaubon for contacting Andy directly to ask him to set aside bottles for us — we cleaned him out of ‘Cuddle’
Hehe, y’all sure made me most popular with Antonia and her staff. Might have had something to do with us walking into her shop and saying “Hi, you have six bottles on hold for me, and I want two more, and then I’m going to look around your shop for a while”…
You’re all welcome, glad to have been able to help. And thank YOU for being a willing mule!
What fun!!! You deserved such a day
and like hajusuuri I am curious about the one with the tomato leaf note. If you can think of the name, do let us know.
Also, did you get to meet Jeffrey Dame? I hear he is a sweatheart IRL (I have only spoken to him on the phone).
Oh crap! NOT ‘sweatheart’ but rather “sweetheart”…sheesh!
Sweatheart would be disgusting :-). (And is sweatheart a real word? Where’s spellcheck when you needed it?)
EXACTLY! where is spellcheck??
He wasn’t there when we were there, but I am wearing a sample of his LOTV soliflore just now–with Diorissimo edt on the other wrist for comparison
All of the perfumers were very friendly and accessible–but a little shy. I am not surprised. It must get exhausting putting on the fume dog and pony show over and over again…
I am annoyed that I cannot recall the Olympic Orchids scent name. The graphic was so distinct– a horse… in green on black… grrr…. maybe Pixel can recall.
Ya know, somehow i missed Olympic Orchids entirely. Maybe you were sniffing those while I was off with Antonia, or pestering the L’Aromatica gal. It was kindof a madhouse in there in a good way.
I tried looking around the internet myself yesterday to see if I could find it but no luck. The L’Aromatica line looks interesting as does the Jolie-Laide which I think is all natural if I am not mistaken. Tigerlily sure has some nice niche and artisanal lines
Let us know what you think of the Dame LOTV…you can’t beat the price of a full bottle.
I heartily endorse Zelda. It’s one of my Top 10. One spritz lasts forever and a day. If you like perfumes that morphe over time, you should dedicate a whole day to just Zelda, sit back and enjoy the show.
Spending a few off days camping and just got back from what was supposed to be a five mile hike but ended up being what felt like a thousand and one miles because I somehow managed to lose the trail. Just got back to camp and everyone is packing up to leave and I am ELATED! I’m here till Tuesday and will thoroughly enjoy everyone’s abcense.
Cold early this morning when we started and everything smelled of the mouldering damp of decaying leaves and bark. The sun made a grand entrance and it has warmed up considerably. Now everything smells of the damp, ripe fecundity of spring. Some fresh leaves and the vibrant green of unfurled ferns along the trail as well as a stray wildflower or two. Saw what I think was a goldfinch glowing in the sun on a downed tree briefly before it flitted off to continue its bird life. T-Rex was a trail champ and it was entertaining watching her speckled haunches coil with bunched muscles ready for take take off.
The rest of the plans for today: nice long hot shower and heavy usage of FM VE, bears be damned. I need a perfume fix. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!
Sounds like you are having a grand time!
Glad to see that you and T-Rex are enjoying life.
Did I already post this? Or was it the same organization, or just something similar, in another publication? But we have different readers at different times so I guess a little duplication wouldn’t hurt:
I’m testing Krizia Moods Uomo and trying to decide if I like it. The fact that it seems like more of a fall scent is not helping.
I did enjoy wearing my fav SMN Melograno earlier today, which I like better in spring, summer, and early fall than cold weather. I have a secret fear that someday I will put it on and find I no longer love it, but so far, I still do.
Also, I enjoyed opening the envelope of recently arrived Aroma M samples and huffing the combined aroma. That will be a good series to test this spring, I think.
A rare, properly hot and sunny day today. SOTD is Caron “Yatagan”.
Top: lavender, galbanum, pine, basil, watercress and mint;
Mid: artemisia, oak, oakmoss and patchouli;
Base: musk, castoreum, woody notes and incense.
To be honest, although I like Yatagan well enough, I don’t get anything resembling those notes from it. Especially not now in the evening, as I have sprayed one wrist with TF “Tobacco Vanille” and the other with… dangit, don’t remember. Some other TF thing, I think “Rive d’Ambre”? Anyway, I dosed myself in Duty Free and am quite happy that all I smell now is TV, which is on my shortlist after I finished a decant earlier in the year.
I think of Yatagan as a wearable pine… It shouldn’t work, but it does.
Knowing Caron, Yatagan may smell very different now from what it did when the lists of notes were drawn up.
It’s a recent bottle so I was wondering the same. :^)
I had a fun weekend getaway on a nearby small-town island. It was charming and relaxing, and I had great fun. Yesterday I wore Oriza L. Legrand Villa Lympia to complement the ferry ride over on a chilly day. Today I have been in Sweet Anthem Walden, but I’ll put aomething else on this evening. I can’t believe it’s almost Monday again.
The first bright spot in my weekend was the visit the I made yesterday to the National Arboretum. The day was gorgeous, the dogs and their people were all friendly, and the most beautiful thing I saw and smelled was an apple tree in full bloom.
The second bright spot is the Gris Montaigne I’m wearing now, courtesy of the lovely and generous Laura!
Hoping this week will be a good one for all of us!
J’dore. Pretty and powdery. Perfect for springtime.
