It's Tuesday, and it's Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's! (Make mine #TeamCherryGarcia, please. And while we're talking ice cream, I'd like to thank Ben & Jerry's for the limited batch Chocolate Cherry Garcia, and say please, add it to the regular line.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm full-on jasmine with Serge Lutens A La Nuit. Tea at the moment: Kusmi Troika.
Reminder: on 4/7, wear a fragrance with jasmine, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the (unfurled ball of) Grand Jasmine Mu Dan Blooming Green Tea from American Tea Room, $29.25 for 2 oz.
In Tom Ford’s Black Orchid. I’m recovering from a particularly nasty cold and it’s the only damn perfume I can smell at the moment!
You smell fabulous. This is a perfume a Valkyrie would wear!
Feel better Bob H
Feel better soon.
Get well soon! You smell awesome.
I have a small bottle of Black Orchid and I should wear it more often!
You smell wonderful!
A whole week of Jasmine!? Be still my heart! I will take mine with a side of jasmine tea!
Pass lovestosmellgood some jasmine tea..thank you
Oh, good idea! I’ll make some jasmine tea later on today
Any favourite jasmine perfumes from the mainstream arena? Would love to know of some.. Thanks
Alien, and if I’d liked the drydown, might own it. There’s Joy. I actually like Michael Kors Glam Jasmine which is a perfectly serviceable and cheerful summery thing. And Bvlgari Jasmin Noir (in the black bottle) which is more opaque/woody for cooler months.
The Alien Essence Absolue is quite nice.
Let’s see. I love Alien and Alien Absolue, Pacifica Waikiki Pikake, Lush Lust and Sikkim Girls and the less obvious jasmines like Andy Tauer Lonestar Memory, a very green and subtle jasmine.
Random sample: Chloe Love Story. It’s underwhelming, so I’ve also popped some Jardins d’Ecrivains Wilde into the diffuser.
I haven’t smelled much from the Chloe line these days
L’eau de Chloe is nice, very green and clean, I think of it as a rose lemonade sort of perfume, really just right on a sunny day!
I did like the L’eau.
Oh? That sounds right up my alley. I’ve got a tester around here somewhere, I think. I’ll give it a shot.
Is that the pale green juice? I thought it was nice, too.
I think that’s the best thing they’ve done lately.
French Press Coffee
Waiting to catch up on this article in the New Yorker about refugee children when the babies nap and finish reading the WSJ. My other half had to leave super early this morning so there was not my usual morning routine.
I am sadly still on the last issue from February, so have not seen that article yet. Hope the babies take a nice long nap for you
I love blooming jasmine tea! A friend gave me some for Christmas and it has been tremendous fun to use.
Wearing Rose Anonyme today.
Twins in RA today! I meant to look for Ineke’s Poet’s Jasmine this morning, but got distracted…
Grey and cloudy here, wearing Cuir de Lancôme. Heading out (child free!) soon to hopefully get my mobile fixed, and have a nice sedate coffee with my husband, very different from the squabbles and huge spillage of orange juice and ice cubes in Costa yesterday!
You smell nice. Hope the day is as nice as you smell!
Perfect for a cloudy day! Just lovely!
Cuir de Lancome is always perfect. You smell great!
My SOTD is Eau des Merveillies Ambre because of the discussion here on the weekend.
You smell wonderful! I believe I’ve burned through a couple of samples of the Ambre.
I was lucky enough to get one of the 30ml bottles – I think it was one of Robin’s lemmings.
Yep. I ended up with a 15 ml.
Oh, actually I think that’s what I have too, not 30ml.
La haie fleurie because of all the discussion about it yesterday. It’s been going strong for a solid 8 hours already.
You smell great, of course! Funny, I described it as strong, but it actually went quiet after about 2 hours. I could still smell it, but it became almost a skin scent. A lovely one at that.
I LOVE jasmine, and i share my name with this flower, so yaaay for jasmine.
Claire de lune, by Sultan Pasha Attars (from a sample). Jasmine with a capital J, an overdose for jasmine lovers only.
Its lovely. But he does not produce/sell this one at the moment.
PG 23 Drama Nuui by Pierre Guillaume/Parfumerie Générale (from a sample)
There is no drama in Drama Nuui.
Opens with a light jasmine, but on my skin turns into a watery almost lily-like scent. Supported by soft spices, wood and something herbal/green.
Its a pretty but not memorable scent, the jasmine tea I drank this aftenoon had more drama
I adore Claire de Lune and wish he did offer it for sale. It’s my second favorite that I’ve sampled (after Pure Incense). I think I would consider it one of the prettiest jasmines I’ve tried, and it doesn’t give me a headache like so many do.
You could ask Sultan Pasha if he has plans to make it in nearby future or if he can cook up something similar for you. Do you have facebook? He is very active on fb and fb messenger and also very approachable!
SOTD is “Miksado” from Jeroboam.
Top: bergamot, labdanum and saffron;
Mid: cedar, guaiac wood and geranium;
Base: patchouli, vanilla and white musk.
I like this one a lot. It was a freebie from Jovoy, a miniature bottle (I think 5ml – that’s maybe €15 worth on its own). I hadn’t previously heard of the perfume or even of the house. It is, to my mind, almost a gourmand (think of highly spiced arabic sweetmeats). But not quite, because thankfully it just isn’t that sweet. It is making me think of last week’s Arte Profumi “Bois Sacré” and I wish I could try them side-by-side. Lasting power is good.
Sampling Olivine Atelier Gigi perfume oil. It is said that Madonna is a fan, and I can see why- it’s yummy! I wore a tiny bit to work on Sunday and one of my coworkers commented that I smelled good. Love it when that happens.
I’ve never worn perfume oil before, any good tips on proper application? I dabbed on my wrists and neck.
“Rain before 7, done by 11.”????
I’ve tried a couple of Olivine’s at Anthropologie and thought they were quite nice-I think the self-titled one and another I can’t remember.
I’m a newish fan of oils and have a few. How I apply depends how potent they are. The less potent ones I tend to apply very liberally over a wider area. The potent ones I apply like you did today. And someone did notice you! Always nice to get a compliment ????
And if it’s gonna rain, it needs to be done by the time I have to commute!! It’s drizzly here today.
I will have to see if my Anthro carries any. Thanks for the application tips!
I have recently given up on perfume oils. My skin eats perfume, and oils tend to a) not radiate past an inch and b) disappear within an hour. (Exception Tauer Rose Delight, but that’s a fragrance body oil rather than a perfume oil. Don’t know why/if that matters.)
Most people don’t seem to have that problem with oils, so I say if they work for you, good on ya! Your application seems fine – dabbing on pulse points, or smearing a little bit more on if it’s a quiet scent should do well.
My initial impression is limited radiation too. Most of the Olivine scents are offered in edp too and I debated over which form to try…decisions, decisions.
I quite like the Olivine line, and that particular one, Gigi, is lovely. Also, you should try Amongst The Waves.
Yes, I got that one to try too, it smells like it will be beachy deliciousness this summer! Ordered the 8 sample pack and have briefly sniffed each of them and they all seem nice!
I usual use perfume oil/essential oil perfume on the tops of my feet before my yoga class (this way I get nice whiffs in all forward folds and I am the only one who can smell it)…you can also apply in your hair, in the crook of your arm or the back of your knees if you don’t like the feel of it on your wrist or neck. As much as I like to be a sillage monster and spray I also enjoy the intimacy of a perfume oil which has very little projection.
Thank you! I actually thought of you when I ordered these because I know you are of a fan of essential oils. I knew you’d have some good tips!????
Oh and I just thought of one more place…add it to unscented body lotion ( I like Alba Botanicals) and you can spread it all over your body You can also do the same with essential oils too.
You smell nice. I used to own a little bottlr of the oil.
My newish favorite Ben & Jerry’s is Spectacular Speculoos Cookie Core. It is pretty spectacular.
Cousins with Robin today in SL Sarrasins. I could bathe in this stuff.
I detoured to the Chelsea Barney’s last eve while getting my broken router replaced and gave a sniff to the new FM Superstitious. It’s floral, a little fruity from peach or apricot with a bitter edge, a little sweaty and dried down a bit soapy. My impression: very French. I liked it but felt kind of uncomfortable in it so don’t think it’s something I’d wear. I’m curious to hear other’s take on it when they’ve tried it.
You smell gorgeous.
I’m hoping to make a detour to Barney ‘s this weekend during a quick visit, to try Superstitious. I loved Lanvin under Alber Elbaz ‘s direction ( view only!), so have been looking forward to the perfume collaboration.
Nice! Do report back. It was my first time at the Chelsea location and I liked it better-much less aggressive SAs who at the other stores seem to descend on me insisting I need a makeover, lol. I know they need to sell cosmetics but…They don’t have Le Labo but have mostly everything else. I also tried Durga (at Twisted Lily, but Barney’s has it) and I really liked it! Oddly compelling to me.
Oddly compelling…. I had the same response to Durga.
sounds very french
You smell fantastic!
I prefer Häägen-Dazs to Ben & Jerry’s.
But I think I am the minority here and in Most supermarkets here stock B&J’s.
What I meant to say, “and in The Netherlands”
I actually prefer HD myself. I’m generally not into flavors that have lots of chunks of things in it. I do recommend the Speculoos though! My ultimate favorite is HD Mayan Chocolate ice cream.
Speculoos…mmm that could work for me. Its not like i am allergic to B&Js And that Mayan Chocolate sounds awesome, need to find out if its for sale somewhere around here
HD Coffee is my holy grail ice cream.
I wrote to the company this past week to ask if they would ever re-issue their fabulous Peppermint Bark Xmas ice cream. No answer so far.
Agreed that their coffee is superb!
I prefer HD as well, and my freezer’s always stocked with it. I don’t buy too many other brands. B&J I’m not a fan of at all. Their ice creams are too sweet, and I think they add stuff that makes it chewy (carageenan et al), which I’m not a fan of.
I love the mix of flavors in B&J and the chinks slow down how fast I eat it, but the HD coffee is fabulous and the absence of thickeners is a plus. It’s more like the recipe you would make at home.
Ha, the chunks do slow one down, which is maybe why they bug me ????
Yeah, I prefer my ice cream without the stabilizers/ texturizers which is why I prefer HD generally. Especially for the plain flavors.
Kpaint, sounds like you have a great freezer! I’d like to meet her (him?) one day
Not a wide variety of HD availablr in my area. But I am blessed with a good artisanal ice cream shop at the end of our street.
The new Malle has my name written all over it, and I love your scent of the day: Sarrasins is wonderful.
It actually reminded me a little of Une Fleur de Cassie in the not entirely clean way.
Oh dear, I am lost.
That’s what I’m afraid of. I ordered a sample but I’m betting it will be too skanky/sweaty to me.
Sarrasins is one of my favourite samples that I have drained. Probably should get a decant, but I don’t know if it’s been reformulated? The sample I had was quite old…
you smell magical
Oh, magical! Thank you (flutters eyelashes). I don’t know how old is the bottle this lil decant came from, but it smells darned good-and I jave nothing to compare it to. I did just get another decant from the STC 20% off sale that ends tonight. I should go over to that confession post..
Easing into my summer rotation, today is quirky Wisteria Hysteria, which I have applied liberally (half my sample) and am enjoying the whiffs of summer garden and old machinery I get from it. Now that this sample, the 7th one, I believe, is gone, I am once again confronted with the question of how to get some more. The bottle does nothing for me. Is there anyone out there who loves the bottle and would like to do a big split with me????
Oh, forgot to say, “Chocolate Cherry Garcia!??!” Hmmm, mapping out the fastest route to a grocery store at lunch time.
I read a article that said that eating icecream for lunch wasn’t so bad for you, since you work it off. Sounds like a reasonable idea to me….
It was supposedly out last November, but I did not find it near me until about a month ago, and it is still not in all stores that carry B&J in my area.
It is REALLY good.
I ate a pint at once last week :-(( . I usually don’t like chocolate based ice cream- I prefer chocolate things in vanilla. But, this stuff was so yummy. It said limited edition. Does that mean we need BUP ( back up pints) because of FOMO ( fear of missing out)?
I bought 4 just yesterday. Because that is all they had.
Seven samples!? I guess you do like it It’s been on my “to try” list for a long time and now you’ve stirred my curiosity.
I like that perfume a lot. Smells like the kind of wisteria perfume naughty pixies would make.
Today I am wearing Smell Bent Little Miss Panda Gets Lei’d, very jasmine forward.
Jasmin et Cigarette!
Elisa, I’m not sure if you answered my question from yesterday or not because I didn’t have a chance to check last night, but the Carolina Herrera you talked about yesterday – is that the Classic one in the polka dot box or the one with the ch on it?
Oh sorry I didn’t see it! It’s the classic one in the B&W polka-dot box
Thanks, I found it on a discounter and I think it is cheap enough to risk a blind buy.
Good luck, I hope it works out!
You smell wonderful!
I think this one will be my Friday scent. You smell great!
You smell great.
You smell great!
This one is still a candidate for a FB for me.
The 2 voices in my head:
Voice 1 – “But you already have a lot of jasmine centred scents, pretty expensive ones as well. You dont need another one”
Voice 2 – “But his one is different from the ones you already own. You need a jasmine with tobacco in you life. And its not very expensive.”
I’m voting for Voice 2. It really IS different from other jasmine scents. And it’s so light that you can spray with abandon and drain a bottle in no time, therefore feeling completely justified in your FB purchase.
I’ll let you know whem you can collect your enabler pin
Thanks! I’d love a trip to the Netherlands ????
Ooh! You smell lovely. That’s my planned Friday scent too.
Can’t quite get into Jasmine – it’s cold and wet here today. I think I will be reaching for one of the cozies: Amber Sultan or Tea for Two.
My vote is Ambre Sultan but only because I love that one and haven’t smelled Tea for Two yet.
Yep I think I’ll do that one, just a micro-spray because of an afternoon client
Both excellent choices!
Anorhet dark, rainy, foggy day, but I am facing it with another pretty jasmine: Annick Goutal Songes. And free cone day will be celebrated with one of my favorites Ben & Jerry’s: Salted Caramel Core. I love, love Cherry Garcia, the best in the line imho. Happy Tuesday everyone!
You smell great! Enjoy your free cone.
Thank you! The line for the free cone was super long, so I got a pint. No regrets????
I am not positive but I think there are only 3 flavor choices? You will find out for sure.
No, you can choose any flavor you like. They are introducing 3 new flavors that are also available: Urban Bourbon, Oat of this Swirled and Truffle Kerfuffle. I went at luch time but the line for the free cone was really awful. I decided to buy a pint instead, so I could be back to work on time. I already had some. The rest at home tonight if I can control myself until then…..
Thank you! My son likes the TK and the UB. Can’t remember what he thought of Oat.
Urban Bourbon sounds good! What did you get?
Urban Bourbon is burnt caramel ice cream with almonds, fudge flakes and bourbon caramel swirls. Really good. I got the Salt Caramel Core. I have been in a salted caramel kick lately. I have indulged in lots of Bequet caramels. The best are the Celtic Sea Salt, Chocolate Orange and Chipotle. Their variety and quality are excellent. To die for…..
Salted caramel is very addictive. Those caramels sound really good. Especially that chipotle one.
No perfume so far today (iffy head) but I have been working on finishing up my sample of Hummingbird and trying to convince myself that it’s too much sweet and clean laundry for me to wear regularly. So far I’ve enjoyed it, dryer sheets and all, and it’s still on my wishlist. I wonder why something that I usually can’t stand works so well for me in this case?
In answer to your question, all I can say is sometimes it’s just the way things are balanced/blended together. I’ve had the same experience.
Digging out my old sample of SL A La Nuit for Friday.
Planning to downsize my ‘fume collection.
Wearing lovely Crown Bouquet, drinking a latte, and puzzling over the most recent (it should be the *last*) e-bill from Yale: a $2 library fine, the first one Bookworm’s received in almost four years. What, they don’t take cash at the front desk anymore? Shaking my head.
Also, wishing there was a Ben & Jerry’s in my area.
I would have to drive an hour for a free cone…cheaper just to buy a pint
Last week I mentioned that my mom had asked me what my three favorite fragrances were. Like I had hoped, she was bringing me a souvenir from The Perfume House in Portland….I am now the very proud owner of a large bottle of Annick Goutal Chèvrefeuille!! I’ve owned it for 16 hours and I’ve already made a dent in it. I’m in a happy cloud of it, and probably will be all week.
Oh how perfectly lovely!
Yes, it is. I’m feeling very “girlie” today.
Oh, how nice!
Thank mals! It’s quite a treat.
what a wonderful souvenir! Your mom sounds like a sweetheart
Yes she is! She’s always been very generous, but this was a bit of a splurge even for her.
Enjoy- what a perfect ” souvenir “.
So much better than a t-shirt.
Nice! That’s a pretty one. Great for summer.
It is so pretty. I forgot to mention above that it’s been on my “to try”list for a long time, but I’d never had the pleasure of smelling it. This was a blind buy (blind gift?). I’m so lucky I love it.
I love it in the spring!
Yes! It couldn’t be more perfect right now.
What a lovely gift! Enjoy.
Thank you. I couldn’t be happier with it. (And grateful. Super, super grateful.)
Such a beautiful fragrance. Enjoy it!
It really is stunning, but not in a “better save this for a special occasion” sort of way. I plan on really using it this spring.
I have a big bottle of that one too and so happy I can spray with abandon now!
It does need to be applied heavily and frequently. A small bottle wouldn’t have cut it. And that’s okay – I’m happy to keep spraying!
You and your mom have good taste
I learned from the best!
Shalimar Parfum Initial. There are jasmine notes in this, so I’m keeping up with jasmine week !
Almost scent twins..maybe flanker cousins?
I have a sample of that one…need to make a mental note to wear it this week.
It is so nice. I’ll be sorry when my bottle runs dry.
I need a 12 step program for Ben & Jerry’s. I can easily resist other ice cream, but I love theirs. My favorite all time flavor is in the Flavor Graveyard- Cool Britannia.
Target has an exclusive flavor called a Brewed to Matter- it’s coffee with brownie batter swirl. Thankfully, I don’t get there often.
I’m wearing By Kilian Love and Tears, by the way….. very healthy!!
My favorite is also enjoying eternal peace – Mission to Marzipan. I suppose that makes it easier to be virtuous.
Mission to Marzipan? If you feel up to it, please describe
Sorry I missed that one- I’ve become a big marzipan fan.
Y’all are killing me with this ice cream talk cause now I want some!!! What was Cool Britannia? and Brewed to Matter sounds amazing.
And I will confess that I could easily eat two pints in one sitting
CB was vanilla with strawberries and chocolate covered shortbread.
OMG!!! YUMMY! too bad it is discontinued…..
My favorite disappeared over a decade ago – Dastardly Mash.
Decade(s)? Sometimes I forget how appallingly old I am. It was my favorite 30 years ago and it became really hard to find soon after I discovered it.
Then you’re old enough to remember Frusen Gladje? ????
Yes! I’ve been watching The Americans on amazon (it takes place in the 80s) and there was recently a scene in which they ate Frusen Gladje, which cracked me up
I keep meaning to watch that series. But that’s a funny reference for them to use. That brief pseudo-Scandi thing… At least Haagen Daz endured.
Oh, you may just have talked me into a Target run.
1) Free cone day! Ah, but the lines will be CRAZY.
2) SOTD: Molinard’s Jasmin. Now, for the compare and contrast: I checked out a sample of Jasmin Rouge last week. Lovely, rich but very sheer, meant to be worn, imo, for hot days or sexy times. Molinard’s Jasmin has a similar jasmine-y, heady feel, but it is more indolic and longer lasting. I got this at Anthropologie a while back for a song, but the regular price -$69.99- is worth saving up some pennies for.
3) Coffee, Greek yogurt and nutty granola.
I’m glad I’m not the only person discouraged by long lines! I’d rather pay and have a nice quiet time . . .
You know, as a born and bred New Yorker I should be happy about lines, and here in Portland people love their queues! However, I am now at the point in my life where if it is not groceries or movie tickets I just don’t have the patience anymore.
SSS Jour Ensoleillé – faintly banana-y white flowers (I am the only one who thinks this).
Realized as I was pulling my bike up to the rack today that, in fact, I don’t have my bike lock with me. I hope it’s on the floor of my garage or somewhere in my house. We’ll find out this afternoon. In the meantime, my bike is keeping my company in my office.
You smell divine. JE is one of my all time favorites.
Love Jour Ensoleille!! You smell awesome!
looking forward to breaking out my new travel spray of this later in the week. It’s been on my buy list for a long time, so I agree…you smell gorgeous.
I ordered the 5 ml spray of this recently. Had drained the sample. You smell great!
Don’t get me started thinking about Ben & Jerry’s ice cream! Too many amazing flavors but the fat content is a killer!
SOTD: 31 Rue Cambon
You smell great and I am jealous of your scent! Lemming a bottle of that
Thank you my dear!
I’ve got a nice sized decant that will take time getting through since I only dab this one on.
You smell fab!
The fat content is KILLER. But don’t eat Ben&Jerrys every day- or even every month- and it will all even out!
Love it! It will all even out… ha. My kind of thinking
SOTD is Paco Rabanne Calandre, one of my favorites for spring. There’s jasmine in there somewhere!
LOVE Calandre…wore it in the late 1970s….is it still in production?
I don’t think so but you can still buy it on line. I’ve got a back up bottle
The only time I’ve ever been elegant or sophisicated in my entire life was when I was wearing Calandre ( sadly, I was 17 at the time and going down hill ever since)
I used to wear skirts and high heels. It’s been years since I’ve done so.
I’m trying out some ELdO Divin enfant from the swap meet. I was expecting marshmallows and neroli, but I’m getting ALL the leather and tobacco from this. I kinda like it, but I’m saving it for cooler weather.
Divin Enfant was my first ELdO full bottle. On me it’s a nerolic, vanillary powder with a hint of warm skin. Lovely stuff.
I was really expecting a much softer scent! That said, I love ELdO – nearly everything I’ve tried from that house works well on me.
Chanel Boy today
I really like that one. You smell wonderful!
Don’t have the perfume but I do have the Boy lipstick ( a great nude, very Vanessa Paradis). Need to try the perfume again and I hope you are enjoying it. Enjoyed your Milan tales.
Oh, so Boy is not only a name of a Chanel perfume but also some cosmetic pieces bear this name. Nice.
I do like Boy, wouldn’t mind being gifted with a large decant or bottle
And maybe a bag, too…or a watch?
Today I’m wearing the very last of my sample of ELdO YES I DO and trying to decide if that means I can justify a full bottle purchase, given the presence of Diorissimo in my collection already.
Is Yes I Do like Diorissimo? I have not been paying attention, obviously.
I have a sample of this, Robin, if you’d like it. It didn’t do anything for me.
You are so kind, thank you! But if it didn’t do anything for you, it can’t be much like Diorissimo? In which case, I will save you the postage
I”m not particularly good at picking out a lot of individual notes yet, so for jasmine week, I’m simply going through my stash and finding stuff that has jasmine listed in the notes. Today is Cuir Ottoman. Blind swapped for it last week and am really enjoying it.
Hope everyone has a nice day!
You smell lovely!
Shalimar EdP today. Been years since I wore this. Feeling the need to spray even more, more, more.
Realized I have a number of scents with Jasmine in them, so I’m going to focus on the ones I don’t wear very often.
Disappointing basketball game last night. My husband had a running commentary on how badly the teams were playing. As he said at one point, “they’re playing hard but stupid and poorly.”
Sort of twins, I am wearing the flanker that smells nothing like the original
You smell awesome!
Whenever I’ve watched basketball (very rarely) I’ve wanted both teams to slow down so I can see what’s going on. I’m like, Can you stop running around! Kind of like having to supervise a playground of toddlers. I do watch cricket sometimes…so much easier.
Cricket has defied my efforts to understand it. Just when I think I have it figured out they keep running back and forth a few more times than I think they should.
Thought I would end up in wearing Epic today but wanted vintage Miss Dior instead. Don’t know why I don’t wear this often. I keep dithering on if I should pass on the STC sale or not. Let’s face it, I have enough decant reviewed and not that I have to use.
No jasmine, kinda damp and cool today. Picked Timbuktu, mostly because I haven’t worn it in a while.
Perfect for a damp cool day.
I’m trying CdG Floriental, from a spray sample. Not sure why I ordered this one – maybe I fell for the name.
It’s definitely a better choice for January in Houston, not April, so I will tuck it away to try later.
I’m not to the point where I need to scrub it, but I may need to spray something on top of it to quiet it down. Any suggestions?
Add Plum if you have it or Coco.
Wow, Coco is perfect as a layer! It really makes it softer and gentler.
Added Eau de Rhubarbe Ecalarte to the other wrist as I have no plum. That works also, it freshens it up.
Thanks so much for the ‘fume rescue, Kanuka!
Today I’m wearing Carolina Herrera. It’s more tuberose on me than jasmine, but there’s jasmine in the mix so I’m good.
I am trying to talk myself out of Pixel’s offer yesterday to mule Andy Tauer’s new scents on her Saturday visit…that Cuddle one sounds really nice. However, I’m going to a Basenotes thing in Denver over the weekend and I’ll probably buy things there. Must watch budget…must watch budget…
I am throwing budget caution to the wind by having Pixel mule the cuddle scent AND going to Denver! Mwahahaha.
A million things to do today, including an unpleasant dental cleaning. Wearind Divine L’Infante in an effort to remain calm.
I hope things go well with the cleaning. Dental appointments are never fun!
It was a breeze, relatively painless, thanks!
Infante is lovely and very uplifting!
In a Lemon Cloud today with Nuvol Llimona. Sweet creamy lemony goodness. Went to go look and see where I could get some free B&J and all the ones in San Diego have closed with one exception, and that one isn’t close to me. There used to be one in the mall across from my office and 2 others I can think of. No mint chocolate cookie for me today
Lemon cloud! Yum. I’ll have to remember to seek this one out.
I think Luckyscent is the only place that has bottles in the US – I just have a decant from a split, but it’s yummy. Robin has a review here as well.
Black as black and cold. First frost yesterday. Sampling Olympic Orchids Dev Four . I haven’t read any information about it so I don’t know anything about Dev or the notes. Strongest impression is pine resin and sweet banana ( or possibly pineapple lumps…chocolate covered chewy pineapple sweets, our national dish) . Woody, too . Not pencil shavings but woodworker’s workshop, kind of dusty. The ‘flavour’ or identity of the sweetness dies down so it becomes less banana and more a undefined sweetness…a bit like sugar cane. Close to the skin. Not very complex and becomes soft woody, resin. Again that touch of celery…maybe clary sage? More wearable than Bay Rum.
Re. BAy Rum…it was nice on my hanky left in the corner of the room…filled the air and was interesting. But I couldn’t wear it even though it offers something to expand my perfume experience and range…a good challenge!
I see that Ellen Covey created Bat for Zoologist ( haven’t smelt that). To me, she seems to be somehwere in the post Lush/ Comme des Garçons/ Smell Bent world…pushing out a bit. Now it just smells resiny, but a true tree resin, like you’d pick off the bark of a pine tree. Oops, bit long…sorry!!
Loving these mini reviews.
Cold and rainy here so I chose De Profundis.
I’m wearing a generous amount of Vanille Galante. I love it so much that I went to check the price of a bottle, but it’s no longer on the Hermessence website!!! Does anyone know if this has been discontinued?
They always take things off the website when they’re out of them, so you can’t go by that. They do still have it in the 15 ml, and the French site still has it in 100 ml.
Ah, thank you for calming me down! I’m plotting another set of the 15 ml, but there are only 3 that I want so far: Vanille Galante, Ambre Narguile, and Muguet Porcelaine (I already have Osmanthe, Vetiver, Rose Ikebana, and Cuir d’Ange!)
Well, you never know! Hiris disappears every so often and then I worry
Soon heading out to do a re-take on one of the mammogram shots I had done last week but came out blurry. So, cannot wear perfume except on arms. Jasmine week helped me to my answer – Carnal Flower. I’ll still be able to smell it, and it fits the long drawn out winter weather that will seemingly never end
It ended up hitting 60 (and no rain as of yet…) so I guess I have less reason to complain. Still, some sun would be great.
Oh, but the sympathies were for the mammogram re-take! But 60 and sun helps anything.
Good morning, all. It was a wild night, heavy unceasing rain, early intimations of a nasty winter? Maybe. The day is roofed over by thick unmoving clouds, and the rain continues. It would have been a good day to work in bed with my laptop on my knees, but I have some pressing need that I can’t presently recall to go to the office.
I’m wearing Estée Lauder Jasmine White Moss. It’s exceedingly pretty and highly wearable in an undistinguished sort of way, by which I mean that it has no edges to bump against or quirkiness to enchant. It’s highly polished and presentable. That’s not a bad thing, just maybe doesn’t suit my mood in a storm. I’ve made a bad match for the day, I think. I should have chosen something very grounded, like Coromandel or something full of air, like–well, actually, I can’t think of a perfume that suggests wild air, but there must be one.
Be well, all.
Perfect way to describe it. It is definitely not wild.
Oooooh, a pint of Cherry Garcia sounds fabulous right about now. Maybe I should grab both the original and the chocolate version, given how my day has been going.
The good news is I’m back to wearing perfume; no more headache! SOTD = Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia EdP, from a sample. It does have jasmine in it, but alas, it is also aquatic. Not me at all. Bad news is that I did something stupid to one of my email accounts. Mr. Jalapeno (aka tech support) is pretty sure that he can fix it, though.
Hope the NST commenters in New Zealand are OK. I heard about the terrible weather on the noon news. Stay safe and dry folks!
Uh oh, I guess I better go check the news. Glad your headache is gone !
Hooray for no more headache.
Chiming in late today as I was out in the field all morning. It’s my birthday today, and I’m in my springtime fave SMN Caprifoglio. Or I was — it’s mostly gone by now. I’ll be switching to Neroli Portofino shortly, in defiance of the forecasted return to winter rainstormyness that’s on the way.
Happy birthday, and you smelled great!
Happy birthday Isabella! Enjoy!
Happy Birthday, Isabella!
Happy scented birthday!
I’m wearing Arquiste Boutonniere No.7 today. Met a client for coffee this morning and she was very complimentary about it. Said it smelled like honey, which I thought was interesting.
I love me some Ben & Jerry’s. I think I saw the Chocolate Cherry Garcia at Target or something but didn’t buy any at the time. Might have to remedy that if they still have it.
SOTD–Jasmin de Nuit. I was going to wear A la Nuit, but didn’t want Robin to think that I was stalking her two days in a row!! Sun is peaking in and out today, so this one is perfect in its spicy goodness. Need to line up all my jasmines and wear them more often. Rose seems to have taken over my daily scent bar, but jasmine has always been my first love….time to turn the clock back.
Ha, you can stalk me all you like.
wearing Penhaligon’s Duchess Rose from a Bloomingdale’s sample. ( I think it has a wolf head as the cap?) Nice, but I wouldn’t spring for a bottle, reminded me of the Diptyque Rose de Mai on first spritz or maybe AG Rose Absolue? I haven’t compared them, but since I have similar roses I’m not tempted to buy.
Two samples that are just not doing it for me, especially in combination, one from Terry de Gunzberg, and the other Il Profumo. Happy to thin the collection and pass them on to perfume pals.
SotM = Chanel Eau de Cologne
SotA = Joy EdP
SotE = L’air du Temps EdT
I felt ooh-la-la today.
You are getting started with a reeking havoc project
We need t-shirts that say “I’m reeking havoc!”
Stay Calm and Reek Havoc
I’m sitting at a Homeowners’ Meeting seeing tomatoes being thrown around.
SOTD = Science experiment
Today, I dabbed Mohur Extrait on my left forearm and Mohur EDP on the roght forearm. This past Sunday, I sprayed extrait on the right and EDP on the left.
– Dabbing EDP makes it last longer. Spraying extrait makes ot last longer.
– Exrrait starts off with an almost aldehylic bright and spicy rose. EDP starts off with a musky clean powdery muted spicy rose.
– EDP loses the muted veil and becomes similar to Extrait
– EDP dries down soapier than the Extrait
– I did not get the oily pencil shavings smell that I recalled
– if you like your perfume to morph over time and don’t mind soapiness in the drydown, wear EDP
– If you like a deeper rose with less variation over time, wear Extrait
Literally, with the tomatoes? Like a game of catch? Or like “Boooo! Get off the stage!”?
That was some good experimenting you did! I took notes. Thanks!
Super late today. SOTD is Dame Perfumery Bergamot, Jasmine & Labdanum. It is so enjoyable to wear, it’s amazing it doesn’t cost the Earth. Hip hip hooray for Dame Perfumery!
Two thumbs up! And I love my Dame Dark Horse
I agree to everything you said!!!! It is a very versatile office scent…smells great and doesn’t offend anyone.
Super late. I’m sampling Stephen Jones tonight. It’s pretty comforting after a long, busy day.
