Happy Hump Day, and happy National Margarita Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Comme des Garçons Odeur 53 (which would go quite nicely with a margarita, by the way).
Reminder: on 2/24, wear a fragrance by Comme des Garçons, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
SotD: CdG Kyoto. I am getting over a nasty flu that has been creeping across the campus where I work, so this is my first scent in days. This might be my favorite of the incense series.
S(ip)otD: Finishing a sample of Ruhuna Low Country Ceylon from Upton.
Yuck, glad you are feeling better! And you do smell great.
I’m glad you’re feeling better, Monkeytoe. Battling the flu is not fun!!
Yay for feeling better! Kyoto is perfect for that.
Homemade scones this morning, my little monkey helped. I also made a fruit salad to eat with the scones: bananas, strawberries, and blueberries with a bit of honey and orange blossom water. The smell made me choose Feuilles D’Oranger as my SOTD.
I see that Mon Guerlain has been released to some stores, anyone tried it out yet?
warm scones sound lovely. It is great to have children help you cook, life skills in the making.
this time all the flour stayed mostly in the bowl
She still hates it when the hand mixer gets turned on!
Scones and fruit salad sound delicious!
I haven’t tried Mon Guerlain yet, but I really want to. I know it will take forever to come to my corner of the hinterland, if it comes at all, so I just may have to take myself on a field trip to the big city. 🙂
it hard now in the USA to get samples of Guerlain on the usual sample sites.
For New Yorkers, yes. TPC is selling them again but won’t ship to NY. I’m not sure if they’re getting the new ones, though.
Your kitchen smells great, and so do you!
What a wonderful morning!
I am very interested in trying Mon Guerlain. I wonder if Saks is carrying it ? I’m supposed to be going there tomorrow. If they have it, I will definitely try it out.
let me know if you do and report back if you want!
I sure will!
SOTD is Tauer Lonesome Rider. I got a sample in the mail from a generous NSTer and I am deeply in love. I look like a crazy person at work because I keep smelling myself but I cannot get over how much I love this….the spice and leather and smoke and rose. It’s one of the best things I’ve sampled lately and I may have to shell out for a FB because I will surely be depressed when the sample runs out! 😮
I need that one — should check to see if it’s in travel sizes now.
If you go to Andy Tauer’s website, there is what is called the explorer set. You choose 3 15ml perfumes. Granted is comes to the total of around $120 USD. The catch is if you live in the US, you do have to sign for it. I’m thinking of ordering directly from the Andy Tauer site again for that and the samples I got were phenomenal, they were not dabbers but 1.5ml sprays.
Sorry to sound like an advertisement but I was so impressed by the service.
No, no need for apologies here. We don’t call it “sounding like an advertisement”; it’s called enabling! 😉
Yes — thanks! I think last time I looked LR was not in that size, but it probably is now 🙂
Additionally, I just found The Perfumed Court. Can someone please take my debit card away from me?!
Haha! Good luck.
I know! I have two sets of samples on the way to me, plus a bottle split. My credit card is hollering at me!
Oh yeah, I wasn’t even counting what I got in the bottle split haha. I’m going to start having it shipped to work because my boyfriend is going to think I’m insane!
Hahaha. 🙂
I think when Tauer works for you, there are some amazing scents with great longevity. Not everyone likes the “Tauerade”. I’m a big fan because they definitely work for me.
This is the first one I’ve sampled but like I said, I’m already LOVING this. Trying not to make a fool out of myself at work sniffing myself constantly. I also have a sample of Au Coeur du Desert I want to try tomorrow. I can also see my love wanting to steal my Lonesome Rider should I order it, because he loves pretty much any leather scent. He’s been rocking Tom Ford Tuscan Leather lately.
Hi KellyC, I’ve got a decant of Lonesome Rider I don’t use at all so you’re welcome to it. Send me an email (click on floragal).
YES PLEASE! I will email you!
Repeatedly raising your scented wrist to your nose? That’s the Perfumista Salute. 🙂
They got there safe?
Yes! When I got home from work yesterday, I was going to email you today! I literally squealed with excitement! My bf thought I was crazy and I spent all evening sniffing. 🙂
I’m always worried that all you will find in the package is nice-smelling ground glass! I know, there is nothing more exciting than a perfume fairy package in the mail.
I adore Lonesome Rider…I think it is one of Andy Tauer’s best fragrances.
I love love love that perfume. You smell great.
I have only a single CdG fragrance, which I’ll save for Friday.
Today’s SotD: Bois des Iles edp
I’ve been wanting to try Bois des Iles. I’m on a woody/sandalwood kick and someone recommended it. I’m sure you smell wonderful!
It’s really lovely. I can send you some if you want. Email me at Elizabeth Salaam (one word) at gee to the mail.
So sweet, thank you!
Sort of scent twin. I’m in the EdT.
Hi twin! I’m still trying to decide which I love better of the two. Have you tried them both?
No, I only have the EdT, unfortunately. Which do you prefer?
Not sure yet. I’m still trying out the edp, and honestly, I’m hoping to love it more than the edt, just because it’s the one currently in production. So far, it does feel a little softer and rounder in tone than the edt, and that appeals to me. So…we’ll see if that holds.
Thanks for saying what you thought of the EdP! I keep wondering if I need it over the edt. Do you feel like it lasts longer? The longevity has been my issue…
I’d say yes, it has stuck around longer than the edt does on me. I just did a quick spritz from a sample at 5:00am, and I can still smell it at 2:15pm.
If you love sandalwood Samsara may be good to try.
And SSS Champagne de Bois. I prefer it to BdI because the sandalwood is richer and it isn’t as sweet. The drydown of the sandalwood right on my skin is TDF.
I also prefer the SSS – to me its smells just as good and lasts a lot longer.
CdG is one only only two houses where I can do a whole week. Affordable fragrances and interesting ideas? I wish I had more! Today I’m in Black, to wear to a gathering of like-minded people holding signs.
Perfect, enjoy your sign-holding gathering!
Thank you!
Happy sign holding!????
Thank you!
Like-minded sign holders! Rock on ✌️
Thanks!
Sign holding! YES! (make sure and have plenty of hot cocoa)
It’s warm here, sadly. We need lemonade!
I’ve been going to so many similar gatherings lately…
Doing good work out there!
Coumarin, Yay for being a CdG fan and for the gatherings!
Thank you!!
*honks and waves* thumbs up!
High five!
SOTD is CDG Stephen Jones. Happy Wednesday, everybody!
Love that one!
Oh this reminds be I have a small bit if this for Friday! Elephants. Yay.
I’m saving my bit of Stephen Jones for Friday!
SOTD: Mandragore (AG). Happy Hump Day! 🙂
very nice!
Today I am sampling a Dame soliflore, Mimosa. It’seems interesting but, since I’ve never smelled mimosa I have no idea how true the scent is.
I’ve never really smelled mimosa either, so that sample smells slightly fruity to me. But sort of sunny, too.
SOTD Cuir d’Ange, which I love. Was in the mood for a workday cocoon but leather (just cocoon would be L’Eau d’Hiver).
I don’t only not have any CdG, I don’t think I’ve ever smelled (or seen) one. Tut.
You are not alone. I have also neglected CdG in my scent explorations.
Ditto
Me three.
Same here.
Scent twins!
I’ve smelled a couple but have none atm. Surprisingly, my local sephora, with its pitiful perfume section, has a large CdG section.
I haven’t found CdeG anywhere in my part of Canada, other than online. Any Canadian NSTers know where I should look?
SOTD is CdG Energy Series Grapefruit. I forgot how much I like the musky base of this.
I should try that one! It seems I missed all the Energy Series; is Grapefruit the first one to try?
I think so! It’s the only one I loved, although the lemon is fun too.
I just checked, and Grapefruit is already gone 🙁
Ah. Well, some of the series that were thought to be discontinued in the past have come back…so you never know, maybe they’ll make more!
Salome by Papillon Perfumes. All I need is a few strategically placed veils, sequins, eye kohl, and a pair of sills and I’m ready????
Heehee!
For what? ????
For dancing, a decent quickstep is my guess 😉
Auto correct strikes again! It was supposed to be “zills,” aka finger cymbals.
I misread as “stilts”, which is quite an image. :^D
Oh, you smell wonderful.
Thank you!
Good morning on a foggy gray day!
SOTD: Nest Black Tulip. Enjoying this sample; it’s my favorite Nest scent that I’ve tried so far….
I should give that one a shot then! I do love those bottles.
Kelly Caleche for me today.
Isn’t it beautiful? You smell great!
You smell great.
I use to have a bottle of that but it was so fleeting on me I passed it on
I’m got some Galop headed my way and hope I love it as much as KC. Or would that be a bad thing? LOL *ponders*
I won’t need much nudging to get my hands on one of those beautiful bottles… which is a potential problem. Maybe.
I’m trying Scent of a Dream. Smells like a pretty middling dream.
Aww, I hope it wears off soon, at least.
I’m about to cover it up with something less insipid.
I’ve tried that one a couple of times and found it fell pretty flat, face down into a dirty puddle of stagnant water. I did like it for the first 1/2 hour or so.
It had a moment of promise! but then, yeah….totally dull.
I found it uninspiring, to say the least.
I’ll say. She could have done so much better.
“Middling Dream” — perfect flanker name.
And perhaps “Middling Summer Night’s Dream” as a flanker of the flanker?
Perfect!
I am wearing Comme des Garçons 2, which smells of summer in the city to me: hot asphalt and sun-dried grass. One of my old favorites from this house.
Great scent. I loved 2 Man too.
Super, super busy today, but feeling very feminine and elegant in Jubilation 25. The more I wear it the more I fall in love with.
You smell gorgeous! I wish someone near me would wear it so I could smell it more often. Not sure it works on my skin, but I do love the way it smells on others.
One of my absolute favorites but because of the cumin I’ve been afraid to wear it to work. You are a good inspiration so I think I’ll try it sometime soon (maybe just one spray to start).
Me too. I’m here looking for inspiration and am considering trying Jub. 25 dabbed in small amounts for work today. I just can’t settle on a SOTD this morning.
One of my very favourite perfumes, I finally got a bottle this Christmas, u smell so beautiful!
Still on my light and fresh kick. Diorella today. One of my great citrus loves!
Diorella is hard to beat!
Love Diorella! You smell great!
Busy day in the office.
It’s cloudy out and I’m in L’orpheline.
I love that one! It always makes me feel I’ve got a nice protective aura around me without worrying about offending anyone. It’s like a silvery glow.
Yes! I’m so glad I got a bottle of it. It fades quickly so I spray very liberally when I wear it. It’s one of my perfect go-to office scents now.
Continuing with neglected samples. AG Vent de Folie. Started quite green on me which was nice but it’s already a memory after 3 hours. Maybe because I dabbed, but that kind of longevity isn’t inspiring. I don’t have any CdG… how is that possible?
Been too running around-y to post, but yesterday was Lumiere Noir pour Femme, last night Cuirs, and today Tobacco Rose. The sun has been out for three days in a row, so despite some work and world related drama, I’m energized.
On the Chanel discovery set, they did refund me and I did get the coffret! It’s wee and adorable and excellent sniffing, which will inevitable lead to further purchases, so I win and they do too.
Happy Wednesday.
Wow, a refund AND a coffret! 😀
There is probably a Chanel for everyone. Mine turned out to be Sycomore.
… or 5. Or 10. 😉
Mazel tov on the Chanel!
Brilliant news!
Yay for you Amy! I’m glad they came through. 🙂
NICE! Enjoy!!! *lives vicariously through you*
I planned CdG Zagorsk this morning, but last minute I chose Fille en aiguilles instead. Its a rainy and windy day, and I needed something warmer and sweeter.
I always start the day with at least two strong coffees, but its tea in the afternoon. Lapsang suchong right now, more warmth and smoke! 🙂
SOTD left wrist = Bois des Iles EdT
SOTD right wrist = HdP Amber 114.
At first, my right arm felt a little heavier than my left, but things have settled down now.
Ambre. Dang autocorrect.
Ambre 114 is beautiful but it doesn’t hold a candle to Bois des Iles, IMHO of course..
Bois des Iles is definitely more refined. But my notes for 114 are, “Wow, nutmeg/chocolate/sandalwood jambalaya”.
It’s kind of like the wild little sister who sneaks out at night. The Bois des Iles sister is the daydreaming bookworm. A little more clean cut.
Now where did that come from…?
Like this! I’m definitely more the daydreaming bookworm sister 😉
Me, too!
Love this! I vote for the bookworm sister. 🙂
I’ve been battling the flu for a week now. I’m finally feeling like wearing fragrance.
My SOTD is Chanel 1932.
Keep feeling better!
Just awful! Hate the flu! Good sign that you feel like wearing fragrance.
GLad you’re better, and 1932 is delightful.
feel better
Yuck, glad you’re recovered now tho.
Thank you. Today is the first day I’ve felt like myself in a long time 🙂
I’m glad you feel better!
Looks like things are looking up for you, if perfume is back on! Happy to hear that you are feeling better.
SOTD: Sycomore
Margarita is my drink. Love it on the rocks with salt, please!
If a menu has a spicy margarita I order it every time.
Ditto. Had one of those last weekend.
You smell lovely!
SOTD is Comme des Garçons 888. I hardly ever wear it, but when I get it out to put it on, I really like it. It’s a strange one though. I don’t like to be unduly influenced by the name or package but it truly does smell metallic. I get some nice spices with nothing sticking out too much, and a good dose of geranium.
Such a great bottle, too.
I actually have enough CdG scents to have done a full week, but I am an accountant, and the auditors are in this week, so I am wearing whatever suits my fancy.
Yesterday was a horrid day with horrid sauce, so I bucked myself up to face today with Chanel No. 22 EDT.
I have Incense: Avignon, Incense: Kyoto, Leaves: Tea, Leaves: Lily, Leaves: Mint, Play:Green, Sherbert: Peppermint, Red: Carnation, Luxe: Champaca, Undercover: Holygrapie and a sample of Dot to choose from for Friday.
I’ve just won a bottle of no. 22 edt on eBay (£89!) almost full. I’m so excited as I have been looking out for the edt since the reformulation to edp, and heard it was a bit flatter/duller.
U smell wonderful!
Nice one – 75ml?
Yes, 75ml, it’s only been sprayed a couple of times.
I hope you love it as much as I do.
Hey Twin, sorry about the auditors. At least you smell great!
I don’t actually mind the auditors – they are just doing their job, and we ask them to come in, but it does tend to make people tense !!!
I like your CdG collection, and regret never trying Lily! How is that one?
Lily is fantastic – I have never met anyone who hated it.
Shoot your address to t f k 3 1 attt yahoooooooooodaughtcaum (ignore spaces and silly misspellings designed to thwart spambots) and I’d be happy to send you some
Thank you, that is so sweet of you and I really appreciate it!!
I hope today was much better than yesterday!
I hope today was much better than yesterday!
I could use a frozen margarita or two 😀
SOTD Tom Ford Santal Blush. It hits the spot.
You smell great, and inspired me to add a bit of Santal Blush to the mix today! 🙂
SOTD: Guerlain Secret Intention – a very pretty, slightly green, tea scent. Not sure it’s right but my poor, old brain can’t deal with too early for Spring fragrances, too warm for Winter fragrances. 😉
never tried that one..whats it like?
Here are the notes from Fragrantica:
Top notes are coriander, tea, bergamot, cardamom and lemon; middle notes are peony, jasmine and neroli; base notes are sandalwood, tonka bean and vanilla.
On me, it opens with a bit of green and a little spiciness from the bergamot, cardamom and coriander. Neither green nor spice is sharp, just softly there. It moves into a nice black tea scent – it really smells like my cup of Yunnan tea – with a soft, generic floral in the background. Don’t let those floral notes scare you; they are very muted as is the Guerlain wood/tonka/vanilla drydown. Definitely not the “Guerlainade”. I usually wear this in the Summer and it’s not too sweet or gourmand for the heat.
This is dq’d but very cheap (perfume free!) on ebay – not because of quality I think, but because it was a limited edition in the first place and not many people even know it.
This sounds pretty great! Thanks for telling us about it, Rappleyea.
this does sound really nice!
I will put this on my list to try
Le Labo Bergamote 22. Bright and beautiful to match another day of glorious weather. Spring in February, I’ll take it!
I almost reached for that one this morning..but I went with an orange blossom instead.
SotD = Calligraphy Rose
I like it! The heart is tightly surrounded by other notes (resins, herbs, spice), but it is very recognizably a fragrant red rose. I’m sniffing CR spritzed from a manufacturer tester, with many thanks to a lovely NSTer.
I love rose in fragrance, but over the past year I’ve had difficulty with a few rose scents. They gave me a very particular migraine headache, the same headache I get from sulfa antibiotics and sulfate/sulfite additives in food. In a few hours I’ll know if CR is a headache-inducer or not. Perhaps a chemist would know if rose perfume molecules are based on sulphur. Or I may be sensitive for another reason. It’s a mystery. 8)
Lovely! I really like that one. I hope it passes the migraine test.
I hope so too, I really like this one.
Thanks, so far no headache. Calligraphy Rose is beautiful, definitely unisex to my nose, and a nice surprise on a random Wednesday.
So glad you’re enjoying it (and without any physical discomfort!)
Calligraphy Rose is a winner. Having the chance to test a variety of roses is a great education for my nose and what to avoid for the sake of my head. 🙂
Damascones, one of the components of rose essential oil and an aroma-chemical isolated for use in perfumes, have been limited by IFRA. So perfumers are using other and/or additional aroma-chemicals to take the place of damascones, and to make up rose perfumes. You may be allergic to one of those newer ingredients.
Hope this helps but more importantly, I hope Calligraphy Rose doesn’t affect you. 🙂
Thank you for that insight, it makes sense. Newer rose fragrances are the ones I most often don’t get on with. I have an old-ish bottle of PW Tea Rose that I can wear without any difficulty (apart from smelling like a rose supernova), and I have a sample of Jo Malone Red Roses that is wonderful, too. Rose essential oil is gorgeous and headache-free. It’s all very interesting and makes me a bit more understanding of people who are fragrance-free for health reasons.
Glad to help. And yes, once something in a fragrance induces a headache, it definitely inspires compassion! The only time it’s happened to me is with Amouage fragrances! Money saved. 🙂
Hah! Me too!!! About the sulfa. Migraines. And a hot messy rash on my forearms when I was prescribed Celebrex, which apparently is somehow related to the molecules in sulfa drugs.
Ouch, that’s good to know about the Celebrex.
I avoid dried and fresh fruits/veggies treated with sulphur dioxide, store-bought bread baked with calcium sulfate or aluminum sulfate, and food with sulfites.
Thank you for sharing, you’re the first person I’ve met who shares this sensitivity. 🙂
Hmmmm… I have a few questions, but for the rest of our NST companions this may be TMI! Would you mind emailing me offline? I am ann dotty eisenberg attagirl comcast dotty net
I’ve been enjoying my spring greens since pulling them out of storage last weekend. Today it’s EL private collection-forgot how beautiful this is. And like most ELs it has great tenacity.
Still haven’t tried this one, it sounds such a perfect spring chypre, I may just take the plunge and blind buy it from eBay.
SOTD is Taklamakan, although I’m itching to whip out Cuir Cannage as there are some similarities in the opening to my nose. Cuir Cannage has that dolls-heady ylang ylang note, and Taklamakan has something like that going on despite having no ylang. I don’t recall this from previous testing. I think I will need to skip any other activities today and just park around smelling myself.
You smell great! I don’t get any doll’s head though.
Thank you, I’ve really enjoyed this one! I’m amazed that it has evolved at such a slow pace on me, and it’s intriguing. I happen to adore a doll’s head note, and it may be my nose is wonky but that’s all I’ve got. 😉
Wearing CdeG Black Pepper. Quite nice, but not that memorable, in my opinion. I’m dabbing from a sample, though, and I think it would be better sprayed.
I’ve tried it a few times as I read some positive reviews. The black pepper came on very strong for 30 minutes and then just faded. I thought it was interesting because I had to keep asking myself if I enjoyed smelling like I was sprinkled with pepper. And whenever I asked that question I got images of myself as a slab of steak on a plate. With eyes. Maybe it would have worked better if I was hungry?
Yeah, maybe that too! One of my students asked me why I smelled like peppermint, but surely he didn’t get peppermint from this?
Wanted to say that I got your package, safe and sound. Thanks, and hope you’re enjoying your samples!
Absolutely! Thanks!
It’s gray and rainy outside. I needed something a little different today so I picked Jubilation 25 today. I always need some boosts on rainy days.
Jubilation 25 is such a good one for that!- always makes me feel glamourous, even when I look anything but!
Wednesday!
1) Went out last night to listen to a DJ set and do a bit of partying before Fat Tuesday. A couple of cocktails and some dancing- and OY, my body is like “okay, that’s enough!” Lots of water, and lots of cardio later on!
2) Scent of the day: A mix of JM Red Roses and Molinard’s Jasmine.
I remember those days…sigh
😀
Fun fun fun- but the next morning! I am so glad I had electrolyte replacer and a huge bottle of water when I woke up!
Sigh. That sounds like fun.
Moment of vicarious partying.
Okay. Back to boring life.
Best of days to you, NST. I worked hard yesterday and got my case studies, lecture schedules and assessments set up, and today am working at home in a relaxed cloud of Fate. I usually wear this in cooler weather than Auckland is currently having, but I love it at all times. Today is very warm already, and the golden daffodils in the bottle seem to be blooming with extra sweetness; the tiny bit of green is even more thready than usual. In this weather, Fate has a different character: it’s a tutu, a frill of silk and lace, a satin ribbon. In cooler weather, it speaks more of the earth and air than the dressing room. Well, that is, these things seem so to me.
Teaching starts Monday. Ack! I have lectures to write. Double Ack!
I really enjoyed you’re description of fate, it sounds beautiful and interesting, like all my favourite Amouage perfumes.
I love Temp d’une Fete and Ostara for daffodils, I imagine Fate to be darker, would u say?
Not darker, exactly; more a different intensity of golden from the others. Definitely not as green as Temps dune Fete; “thicker” (that probably doesn’t make sense) than Ostara.
All that Shalimar talk yesterday gave me a craving this morning. I’m in a vintage PDT which is the only version I kept in a recent purge.
You smell amazing!!!
Thank you! It was your post that put Shalimar on the brain ????
I almost wore Shalimar today for the same reason! But I ended up with Secret Intention which was right next to it. 😉
I’ve worn vintage Shalimar edc the past 2 nights. I’m not sure I knew they made a pdt – it’s one concentration I haven’t tried. I haven’t tried the vintage extrait, either, but that’s a road I really don’t need to go down…
I started down that road and ended up with more Shalimar than I’ll ever need. I think the PDT is from the 80s-early 90s after which they stopped making it. I think it’s somewhere between an edp and parfum or something. It was the concentration I liked best from what I had(edp, edt, edc).
SOTD is “Ignes” from Angela Ciampagna.
To: no notes listed
Mid: tobacco, peru balsam, patchouli, labdanum and woody notes; Base: vetiver, sandalwood, musk and amber.
This one is very nice, varying between a tobacco-amber-smokiness at the start and now quieter with more patchouli in the dry down.
Oh, that does sound nice. Enjoy!
It’s like the best bits of the 2 Miller Harris scents ‘La Fumee’ and ‘Feuilles de Tabac’ rolled into one. :^)
I’ve never come across Angela Ciampagna. From the website: “We are proud people, artisans by nature and nobles by heritage, we are of Christian upbringing and of pagan ancestry. We worship the fire of the Sacred Heart and that of the hearths and bonfires, we live among
prayers, rural rituals, monastic mysticism and familiar superstitions.”
Perfume by pagan nobles is definitely worth pursuing!
The perfumes are interesting. I think those gothic rose window bottle caps are absurd. ;^)
I smell like honey and naughtiness in Cuir de Gardenia today. I wish it lasted longer on me, but it’s sure great while it lasts!
Great one! Do you have the parfum or the EDP?
The parfum; I haven’t tried the EDP. Do you know how they compare?
No, I recently tested the parfum as part of a sample pass but I’ve never tried the edp. Also curious to know the difference!
Spending today in Dzing. My husband is on another trip, so I’m hurrying through my workload while my kid is at morning preschool (usually I sneak an extra hour of work time in the evening, but that won’t happen tonight . . . ).
You smell great! Dzing! is my favorite ever. Hope the work goes smoothly.
I got a compliment on Dzing from another mom when I picked up my kid! She asked me what I was wearing and said “I hope that’s not a weird question.” I said it wasn’t weird at all and barely restrained myself from trying to drag her into my perfume lifestyle . . .
Im having a violet scented day, SSS voile de Violet, which I wasn’t mad on, then Laurie’s wood Violet, which was lovely, a bit like SL’s Bois de Violet. Topped them up with Misia this afternoon, which I love the best, lucky really, as I have a FB of this treasure!
Been having lots of frustrations with Lino printing today, hand printing is so tricky! Misia helping me to feel combobulated again!
after my SOTD wears away I may dab some Misia
Misia is gorgeous isn’t it?, I didn’t think I’d like it as much as Lipstick Rose, but I really love them both.
Confession: I have never smelled lipstick rose.
In maybe-one-spray-too-many of Jasmin et Cigarette today. But it’ll be all right.
Thanks very much to everyone who wished me well yesterday!
You smell great! I find that one hard to overspray since it’s so light on me. Though, others around me might feel differently about it.
Yes, on me it’s an interesting combination of assertive and ephemeral – so I think I’ll be safe!
I was in NVC Rahele today.
I need some comfort, still haven’t snapped out of shock that my colleague at work has been fired without any warning, from day to day…
Ah, Lucasai, you know your NST family loves you! <3
And that is greatly appreciated
What a horrible shock. Ugh.
I know… that’s what stupid corporations do
So sorry Lucasai, that’s horrible, you’re poor friend.
Aw, big hug, buddy!
Thanks
It’s awful how often even good employees are not safe, and it’s so hard for those left standing. I’m sorry that you’ve had to deal with that experience.
They just keep saying that the department budget is not doing well and they need to cut costs by firing 2 people
Ugh. How nerve-wracking. 🙁
That should remind us all that we should put ourselves and our loved ones first: our jobs, for which we sacrifice a lot from time to time, will not love us back or feel too obligated if we’re not needed any more, or even if some numbers will look better without us.
My support to you, Lucas, and best wishes to your ex-colleague.
So true, there will be another job after this one but it’s more sad if you loved your job and you have to let it go.
I believe that she’ll have many opportunities when looking for new job. In a few years, she might be even happy things turned out that way for her
Well said, Undina!
Well said!
It always surprises me when you give and give to your job for so many years and as soon as you leave its like you don’t exist anymore. I left my job on good terms to be at home with my babies, and gave them 3 months notice, and never, not even once, has anyone reached out to me. Even just a friendly hello Those years of hard work, late hours, weekend work, didn’t in the end, mean anything to them, only me.
So, look our for yourself and take care of you and your family first.
That is traumatic. I’ve been the person who got the tap on the shoulder, and the person spared; neither is any fun.
Somewhat related: I am reading through “Reinvention Roadmap” by Liz Ryan, which is a great resource. Her point is that the old days of corporate loyalty are gone, and we owe it to ourselves to manage our careers. Because any of us can be in work one day and gone the next. Anyway the book is full of good ideas about being your true self and finding the job and culture that’s right for you, which I have found helpful.
Thanks for posting this. I think it’s the same one you’ve mentioned previously (?) and I’d meant to look it up but then forgot the name.
After both my husband and I lost our jobs during the recession and were essentially unemployable for years afterward, the transitory nature of employment is always forefront in my mind.
Sorry about the awful surprise. I hope it leads to better opportunities for your colleague.
Sorry about the rough time you have had at work recently.
I am in Amber flush oil and vintage Coco parfum…
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
That may be about the Coco or certain things happening in the news…perhaps… 😉
Love your philosophical take on…. perfume. 😉
????
Coco is amazing..lucky you with the vintage
I am happy to send you some. I’ve got vintage EDT, EDP and parfum and they are all different and wonderful in their own way. I went crazy hunting down vintage Coco last year and feel less guilty when I redistribute the wealth. 😉
You can reach me at gmail where I am… shera in socal (all one word)
That combo sounds delectable!
SUN!! How peculiar! More rain forecast for the weekend, but we will ignore that today, lalalalalala…. it might even snow a little tonight, lalalalalala……
Been marooned on my mountain since Monday’s storm. There are rumors of roads semi-open, if you have a 4WD vehicle (I do). More rumors (definitely not fact, yet) of the power being restored today. Glad we have a generator. Splitmeet folks: I haven’t managed to get into town yet this week, am hoping I can put stuff in the mail tomorrow (fingers crossed).
No scent yet, will be sampling. I am making a big push to get thru my random samples, making good progress. Odd what a feeling of accomplishment that gives me 🙂
Hang in there! Ginormous trees have fallen down all over this city… I hope your roads are cleared (or at least made passable) soon.
Apparently the power company says they can’t work on the lines until the mudslide is cleared off the road, and the road department says they can’t clear the mudslide until they know the power lines are deactivated. A pox on both their houses.
Teapot Thursday here. My husband’s new PhD student arrived from Iran yesterday and he kindly gave us a teapot and it is fantastic: gold and ruby decorated china with a portait of Nasser Al-Din, with matching tea stand. Best teapot in the world….just google image Nasser Al-Din teapot and you will get an idea. He also gave us a huge box of saffron and also some pitaschio sweets, like turkish delight. It’s so nice to have him here after so many months of waiting for a visa. He’ll be doing cancer research….but I intend asking him about roses, poor guy. Wearing Metaboles. Like it.
Great teapot! But I think I may be more jealous of your saffron.
I’m jealous of the saffron as well…and anything pistachio!
The teapot is perfect.
that is a very nice gift!
What a lovely present!
Inspired by ElsaP, I am wearing No. 22 today. It is beautiful weather and 22 is perfect!
Ugh…ElisaP….
You smell beautiful, Petunia! I considered a repeat of 22 today.
AG Folavril. Great, but I sprayed on a bit too much. This unnaturally warm weather and premature cherry blossoms, etc., have me more in the mood for the early floral AGs than CdG.
It couldn’t have overwhelmed for long, I’d think? Anyway, you smell great.
A sample of CdG ouarzazate, a delightful incense. But I’m going for a midday swim, and might look for another sample to try after.
Update from coffee scent search: tried a sample of Black Vetyver Cafe, which is delightful but discontinued, and lasts about 5 minutes on me. If it was readily available I could continually spray, but that’s impractical. I’ve also tried Follow. Other recs?
PdN Cuir Cuba doesn’t list coffee in the notes, but it smells like coffee to me.
Providence Perfume Co Samarinda is coffee + vanilla.
Richard Luscher Britos Columbia 04N 74W is mainly bitter coffee.
Sebastiane Espresso Royal is a hazelnut vanilla latte.
Yohji Homme of course.
Bond No 9 New Haarlem is Kahlua.
By Kilian Intoxicated In the Addictive state of mind is another coffee/vanilla.
Demeter Black Russian is… guess what.
Dior Eau Noire is coffe/licorice/lavender.
And Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee, that’s my favorite coffee scent. I’m sending you that one. 🙂
Ooh thanks for the list. I have been wanting to smell Eau Noire for-eve-er, it seems. But I have never heard of this Richard Luscher, and will have to seek it and some of the others out!
Pixel about covered the coffee scents, but I’ll add La Via del Profumo Milano Caffe. See Kevin’s review here:
https://nstperfume.com/2013/07/03/la-via-del-profumo-milano-caffe-fragrance-review/
Oh dear another that sounds delightful, that I can’t spritz around town…I’m on a technical no-buy, but we’ll have to see if I can resist some of these samples.
Finally broke down and ordered a sample of Ouarzazate. I’m almost hoping I don’t love it, because really, do I NEED another incense?
Jasmin Saraii’s Otis & Me!
Another I’ve never heard of that looks so tempting, indie producer and doesn’t cost a million…
I’ve tried two or three of her perfumes, including Otis & Me. They are fun. Not super polished, but fun. I particularly liked the Otis & Me, which is why I mentioned it.
Ava Luxe Cafe Noir
DSH Coffee Absolute
DSH Cafe Noir
Cuir d’Ange for me today. CdG is sorely underrepresented in my collection (or, not at all really), so not sure I’m going to have anything for Friday unless I unearth a forgotten sample.
You smell great! To me, Cuir d’Ange is so particular that it could pass for an expensive CdG.
Absolue pour le Soir this morning. Rescue kitty has decided that despite her hatred of perfume, the benefits of sleeping on me outweigh the stink. She likes to wedge herself between the arm of the chair and my chest, pinning my left arm under her. Sweet, but she makes it difficult to type.
Isn’t that the best? Until your arm goes numb?
Ha, I am wearing Odeur 53 as well! (sort of) Today, I was in the mood for CdG Tea, but, since I have some meetings scheduled and Tea is not a soft-spoken fragrance, I decided on CdG Odeur 53 body cream which I wear as a hand cream. It works perfectly, even if the margarita association worries me now a bit … 53 used to be my signature for a very long (and happy) time, and is now my comfort scent — I imagine this can sound rather weird, but it really works that way for me; but maybe that’s what you meant by margarita, Robin?
CdG has the best ads!
A belated hey to my twin! And you are lucky to have some Tea, it is so hard to come by now.
I don’t know what I meant, they just sounded good together!
And agree. I don’t know if it actually sold any perfume, but it’s really a fantastic ad.
I was glad that I got a back up bottle of Tea when they first discontinued Calamus and somebody wrote on-line that Tea will be next, but I wish I have Calamus as well ( my sister wore it back in the day and it would be nice to have a bottle for memory purposes).
And sorry about the stupid question; I was so excited to see that you are in Odeur 53 that I totally missed the margarita day info.
And I do have Calamus — although despite the opaque bottle, it does not smell quite as good as it did when I bought it.
And that makes sense now. I would never have put on Odeur 53 and thought oh, now I should have a margarita, but after seeing it was margarita day it did seem like a good match.
Yesterday afternoon I applied what turned out to be PLENTY of DSH’s Oeillets Rouges. I applied some of the voile to my hair… and felt sort of like a scene in “Honey I blew up the carnation!!!” Fortunately, I like carnation in perfume, but probably don’t need full on Oeillets Rouges in an FB.
Today I am testing Noel Enchante (also DSH), which I am really enjoying. Vaguely reminiscent of the scent of Pier 1 Imports back in the early 1970s. I loved the way the shop smelled then–incense and dusty pottery. I see why DSH named it as she did, but it the scent on its own doesn’t conjure Christmas for me.
Happy Margarita Day!!!
It’s 77° now and forecasted to hit 80° later–perfect for my margarita(s) at dinner!
SOTD is Shalimar…and a spritz of Dior Addict on just one arm.
Yay Shalimar!
Double yay!
????
I went with the EDP today. So good!
And yay Dior Addict!
It was right next to the Shalimar on the shelf at Ulta, so how could I pass it up after your “tonkanilla” description yesterday? I have to admit I’ve never worn it before. I was surprised by how much the jasmine comes through compared to what it smells like just sniffing the bottle.
Yes, Shalimar. I’m in the Mexique version courtesy of a lovely NST’er. I needed a good blast after work (unable to wear any perfume to work). I’ve been assigned a new task this week and it’s a crazy amount of work just to learn it. I might need to wear this again tomorrow or possibly try the Dior Addict / Shalimar option as the week isn’t over yet!
Well, you can’t go wrong with either.???? Good luck with your new task at work!
I just want to say that I’ve never met a more generous group of people. I’m so happy I’ve found you guys! 🙂 Now I have people to talk perfume with who get it! I promise as soon as I have more samples or bottles to decant I will pay it forward!
Your enthusiasm is adorable, and I’m so glad you’ve found your tribe here! 🙂
How lovely!
????Agreed!
Just had a good chuckle, thank you Robin – currently in Tampa, Florida, visiting my brother – & prepared well for National Margarita Day by having 3 frozen ones last night while helping his team out at his local pub’s weekly trivia evening!
Excellent!!
Very late to the party, after a very busy day. Wearing Bois d’Encens by Armani Privé. I never thought I’d love incense until I tried this one.
I love that one, you smell great.
Wearing “Violet Disguise” by Imaginary Authors. Loving this scent! I don’t have any fragrances for this weeks challenge, so have to do my own thing. Hope everyone is having a good week.
Am in Esprit d’Oscar, which I hadn’t worn in a long time and had forgotten how much I love it. I do think it’s one of the most successful modern remakes/flankers of a classic fragrance. (And I imagine most fans of the original Oscar de la Renta would agree?) I smell divine but am about to dye my hair so we’ll see how it competes with the smell of peroxide – though I think we know which will be victorious.
I’d like to 2nd the gratitude of KellyC, and also send a thank you to Robin and her stable of writers who make this place possible!
I was thinking about your jasmine/corn grit comparison and did a little sniffing of the jasmines I have and think I get what you mean. I actually have more of an association with slightly rotting banana peels mixed with warm dried straw, but I can see that corn-y thing, especially in the absolute eo I have. I actually like that smell and prefer it to the greener, mothbally jasmine.
Yes Yes YES!!! Jasmine so often smells like over-boiled corn to me. Which is why I rarely like it. Glad to know I’m not the only one whose brain makes that connection.
Oh dear. Jasmine e.o. and in perfume is one of my favorite florals. I’m so glad that my brain *doesn’t* make that connection! (And I sure hope that I’m not susceptible to the power of suggestion!)
Ha! Uh-oh. The suggestion hasn’t ruined it for me, though. I find that smell really mellow and comforting.
And while I was testing out my jasmine EO my husband came in and said he thought he smelled burning plastic ????
Oh, really? I’ve tested AG Le Jasmin a few times over the last week and got a distinct burning plastic smell from it last time. I guess that must have been from the jasmine and not something else.
Got lots of things done today, checking in late with Chopard Wish. Will switch to Une Voix Noire for the evening.
Enjoy your evening, cazaubon, after having lots of things done today! I wish I could say the same … 🙁
Continuing my Month of Roses —
SOTD = Caron Parfum Sacre
I am anosmic to something in the top notes because I sprayed and sprayed wondering why I am not smelling anything yet. Do you see where I am going with this? Thank goodness the atomizer spray was actually quite anemic but I was pretty sure that stuff was coming out! Whatever I ended up smelling was feminine and a melange of scents with nothing dominant. It’s possible my nose is broken.
I am looking forward to my SOTD tomorrow!
PS is in my quite long to-sample list. Did you have any indication from people around you that you were wafting more than you could smell?
I’m checking in late after a busy dqy touring a school in San Diego. I’m super inspired after seeing amazing things in action and talking to some incredible teachers and students.
I’d forgotten how gorgeous this city is! I’m sampling Do Son EDP and loving it.
Yay for San Diego and yay for Do Son EDP! I wore that and the EDT a couple days ago and decided the EDP is superior.
I’m in San Diego…how long are you here for? The weather today, like so many days, was beautiful.
I’m here until Saturday. The weather here is lovely, and the landscape itself is magical. The Do Son seemed a perfect fit, and it was much more “me” than I was expecting, which was a nice surprise.
Really, really late today. Diving into the sample stash, and testing Atelier Cologne’s Cedre Atlas. I’m liking it very much in the absurdly warm, unseasonable weather I’m experiencing. Looking forward to trying it in summer.
I’m wearing Slumberhouse Kiste today and my goodness it is beautiful — booze-soaked peaches grilling outside on a languid summer evening — but I think it might be wearing me instead of the other way ’round.
