Happy National Hippo Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Rose Amazone.
Reminder: 2/17 will be Reverse Hemisphere Friday — if you're in the Northern Hemisphere, wear something bright and tropical and happy. If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, wear something spicy and warm and comforting.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Hermès Hippo Card Holder is (gasp) $610.
Ouch, that is a lot of money, gorgeous though. I’m wearing Angéliques sous la pluie. It feels like spring here today.
But hey, it holds 3 cards. (I’m actually completely unsure what the purpose is, but it’s a hippo, and it’s hippo day, and I’m wearing Hermes.)
Fine 🙂
You smell great, I was wearing that yesterday, really enjoyed it.
I’m enjoying it a lot too, I always forget about it, and that is such a shame, it’s really gorgeous.
Scent cousins – I’m in Lipstick Rose.
Mojito Chypre for me today. Too bad I’m not drinking tropical drinks someplace warm. Think snow is expected for tomorrow again here in Boston
We don’t seem to be getting much snow so far this year…knock on wood. But definitely, we should both be somewhere warm drinking tropical drinks.
Shhh…..don’t say anything about snow. It might hear you. I’m knocking on wood too. (Now I’m singing “knock on wood”) lol
🙂
SotD: DSH Hand of Buddha–a wonderful burst of citrus, with a jasmine and apricot/osmanthus heart. It doesn’t last very long, but it is wonderful while it does.
S(ip)otD: Buddha’s Hand oolong–why not stick on theme?
OH, need that DSH.
Oh UNCLE!!! I have never tried any DSH. So, I just put in an order for the following DSH samples:
Oeillets Rouges
Reine des fleurs
Noel Enchante
Fou d’Opium
Albino
Hand of Buddha
Mutter, mutter, mutter…
I’ve been on the verge of doing the same thing. The only one I’ve sampled yet is Chinchilla (beautiful), and after a review of Souvenir de Malmaison on Perfume Posse yesterday, I had to go browse the DSH website. But…damn!…they have so many different perfumes. I didn’t even know where to start.
I’ve been doing the very same thing after reading that review. But I’m also lurking about the Rouge Bunny Rouge site after sampling Embers and falling in love the other day.
Uh oh. More love to be found! Can’t escape it. Rouge Bunny Rouge now beckons.
Happy National Hippo Day to you, too!
My SOTD is Beloved today, precisely because it’s supposed to get up to 77 in my neck of the woods. While I have always felt Beloved is a cool weather scent, I recently heard someone else mention how beautifully it opens up in the heat. So I’m going to give it a go today before the rain resumes and the temperature plummets back down into the 60s (????) later this week.
How did it work out for you?
That is a cute wallet.
I’m in Rouge Nuit by Antonio Alessandria.
Wearing L’Artisan Tea for Two today. I mentioned the other day I applied to adopt a new kitty. We were approved and will get her this Saturday!
Yeah for kitty and you
Congratulations!
Congratulations! Enjoy her.
Congratulations!!! Can’t wait to see the pictures.
Exciting!
That’s wonderful! And what a careful shelter group that must be, to actually make home visits. I’d be rather nervous about that myself. Remember that new kitties might be quite scared and you’ll have to be patient–I had one that hid under a chair for almost two weeks. He’s just fine now and super-cuddly.
So fun, congrats to you and kitty!
Oh what fun! Enjoy your new fur baby.
Yay! How delicious ????
Congratulations! Please give your new kitty a chin rub from me when she arrives.
Hurrah for being “cat approved”! So glad for you!
Congratulations on the kitty! I had a calico named “Callie” for 19 years. So sweet.
Enjoy!
ConCATulations!
Why do I think that hippo looks more like a whale?
You took the words right out of my mouth. Still like it, though.
Actually hippos are related to whales.
Hippos are related to javelinas too.
SOTD Bulgari Rose Essentielle from the freebiemeet (thanks Robert H). It is a lovely and delicate fruity rose scent. Fresh in the opening and powdery in the drydown. It is uncomplicated and wears very close to the skin. A non-brainer. Exactly what I need today.
I am pretending to be in a warm tropical climate right now by wearing Moon Bloom by Hiram Green. I feel like slipping into a dress and flipflops for cocktail time 😉
Well actually, it IS pretty warm here on the northern part of this globe right now, more than 10 degrees Celsius, and very very sunny.
Feels like spring!!!
And the card holder is soo cute, price tag not so cute though….
…and yay, my tea compliments the theme as well: Jasmin Green tea, Dammann Frères (found it in a discount bin few weeks ago).
You smell gorgeous. You get an enabler pin for the Sultan Pasha attars 😀 .
😀
Oh wow, an enabler pin. And it’s only my second week here as an active member!
so hmmm is that a good thing for a newbie? 😉
(like your new avatar by the way)
Thanks. Wear that pin proudly!
I have too much perfume.
Really.
I was digging around in my sample boxes last night, trying to find some 1920s-era stuff to send to my writer friend who’s currently working on a Prohibition-era novel, for her nightclub singer protagonist, and I found about nine things that I immediately wanted to wear today. I only have one skin!! Argh.
I am, however, shocked that I no longer have a sample of the classic flapper scent Habanita. I’ve got Tabac Blond, Narcisse Noir, some vintage No. 5, vintage L’Aimant, a bit of DSH Perfumes’ dupe of Coty Chypre to send her, but I can’t find the Habanita. And she says she’s never smelled Shalimar (WHAT?!?), either, so I need to dig up a bit of that too.
I keep finding decants I had forgotten about. Curses. Wearing BK Rose Oud today and wishing I had six clones…
This sounds like a fun novel 🙂 I could never, ever look good in a classic flapper outfit (I’m short and curvy rather than tall and willowy), but I adore the aesthetic of the era. I loathe Habanita, though. Hmm. What makes it a flapper scent? Just that many of them wore it?
It was initially to scent their cigarettes with. Sounds like it’d taste pretty vile to me- surely the perfume would change the taste too :-p
Oh, now THAT I can see. No wonder it’s so dreadful.
Oh but I do really like Habanita! To wear that is- just not to taste!
That’s what I mean, that it was quite popular with the modern women of the day. (I loathe it too, but I was sure I still had the sample.)
I once bought a full (but technically “used”) bottle of Habanita off eBay–several years ago. Wore it one day, and immediately put it back on eBay for resale, with the caveat that it really did not smell nice to me, was possibly off, and caveat emptor! (I started the bidding at .25, plus the shipping cost.) About 10 people bid on the item, and the person who won the auction sent me a very nice note that the perfume was absolutely fine and she was delighted!
That’s funny!
It has its fans. I love LOVE the modern flanker, Habanita L’Esprit. I’ve never smelled the original, though.
Mm, I like Habanita. I have the modern EDP which I wear on days when I might alternatively wear Bulgari Black or Dzing. I do also have a small sample of the vintage which a kind Basenoter sent – should dig out for comparison now I know the modern version better.
You are welcome to unload some of those perfumes onto me. You smell great- Rose Oud was my first split through a splitmeet.
I do need to purge the sample box. Who needs that many samples?
Hi Mals, I can send a sample of Habanita to your friend. Let me know if you are interested. Neat project.
Very generous of you! Thank you. I have one more place to look, and if I can’t locate it there I might hit you up.
????
I bought a bottle off evilbay as a newbie but I never want to wear it.
You have too much perfume? Too much is never enough. *wink*
You only have one skin? I keep picturing Tom Hulce as Amadeus in the wig shop exclaiming, “Why don’t I have three heads?”
I’m wearing Habanita because I needed something to contrast with the jeans, gingham shirt, and Danskos.
Wearing Smell Bent Little Miss Panda Gets Lei’d in 20 degree weather and feeling delightfully ridiculous.
🙂
Natori today. It got moderately cold again yesterday so I decided too pull out the Purple Lady. Just gorgeous. I can’t believe this didn’t find a market.
That was one of the ones I pulled out of my box and said, Hey, I need to wear this again.
I highly encourage it!
That is a good one – you smell peaceful.
Nest Citrine on today’s opposite-weather day! Not even THAT opposite weather-y; like many others, we’re having gorgeous, 60-degree, sunny weather here in Toulouse.
I would kill just for a few solid days of sun, even if it was cold.
Agree. This has been a ridiculously gloomy winter.
Wode today.
You can have my tropical weather- I’m over it. Hoping the humidity eases by Friday or there’s no chance of me participating in the challenge. Death by warm fuzzies 🙁
You smell fantastic. I need to wear that later. In the spirit of the challenge I am wearing MFK A La Rose but since the sun is shining bright and there is NO SNOW in February outside Chicago it feels like a warm spring day despite it being 29 degrees Fahrenheit. I miss snow.
I’m calling dibs on your tropical weather:)
How convenient, I’ve been craving white florals lately, especially tuberose. Starting off my morning in Songes.
Twins!
I love Songes. 🙂
We had a rainy day yesterday so it’s cooled off, some. The high is going to be in the sixties today, instead of the eighties. SOTD is Keiko Mecheri Passiflora.
My husband commented last night that he thought I must have “at least 40” of the little perfume sample vials. I gulped, looked guilty endangered “at least”. I counted them today and found it is closer to 200. I’m sure that’s a drop in the bucket compared to some of you, but it is an embarrassment of riches to me, having fallen down the rabbit hole less than a year ago. At that rate I will die in an avalanche of little glass bottles. I think I will join Jiji in Moon Bloom today.
Those samples just multiply overnight. I reorganized the spray ones into a plastic art pencil case so they can be upright. The beauty of it is that when the lid is opened, the smell of all the fragrances together is hypnotic.
200, woah! 🙂
But I can see why and how that happened, ordering sample vials is sooo tempting and soooo easy.
They are not very expensive, you can even order them at work or on the road, and most of the times they reach your house within 1 or 2 days, by mail. The perfect quick fix for addicts 😉
My sample collection also grew very fast, I do not want to know the exact amount right now, because I ordered a new batch yesterday. Maybe I’ll count them erhm when I emptied a few….I think…
You are brave to count your samples! I don’t have the nerve. Mine are alphabetized by the fragrance house, with what niche stuff I have separated out from the general population. I’ve tried to go through and wear them alphabetically, but I keep getting distracted.
Oh, and changed my mind – wearing Eternal Voyage. It took considerably longer than 2 days to come to Canada from Indonesia, but it’s nice.
Had to look that one up, seems like a very nice scent!
That brand/house is also on my ‘to try-list’. I am especially intrigued by Zen. 🙂
I have too many also. Some sorted by note (vanilla, rose), the rest by house. I use a couple of those clear lipstick organizers to store them.
It’s a bit grey here. I dug out the Jean Patou Sublime, which does not get enough wear.
Mmmm…you smell wonderful. Sublime hates me, boo-hoo.
SOTD = Le Temps d’Une Fete.
I was just reading about that this morning. It sounds really lovely.
It’s gorgeous, and has an elegance that recalls old school perfumes. It might be more of an evening scent, but I love it anytime.
It is lovely. Undiscontinue! Undiscontinue!
If only that would work! LOL!
I love that one SO much.
Cold and windy for me today. Staying cozy in Prada Candy.
You smell great!
I’m wearing Neela Vermeire Ashoka today and loving the milky fig. I don’t get much incense and am not sure what white lotus is like but definitely get a floral in there which must be it. Recently after some enabler comments on here I bought Rahele and Luckyscent was so good as to include samples of all the other N.V. fragrances. Wow, what fun! My second lemming was born: the Mohur Extrait. Wow is it gorgeous. I’m at least going to have to buy a decent-sized decant of it. The orange blossom one, Pichola, is also an intriguing one.
Am I to understand that you bought a whole bottle of Rahele?
Yup!
If you are interested in doing a decant swap of Rahele for Pichola in the 5- 15 ml range, lemme know! (If not, no worries AT ALL… just my usual plotting and scheming…)
I would like to do this but don’t have experience of decanting. Is there a good website that explains how to do it and where to get the supplies?
I tested Ashoka again a couple of days ago and confirmed that I want to wear it. It’s good it comes in the new 2 x 15 ml format: I’ll try to split it with somebody who also doesn’t need a larger bottle.
ME!
Great! Just send me a note via e-mail (About Me page through my avatar) and we’ll figure it out.
I’m wearing Cuir de Russie again today. It’s a bit hard to determine what’s work safe from my collection since there are lots of very potent ambient smells in a vet’s office and we have those Scentsy things everywhere. Several coworkers claim to dislike perfume so I’m sticking to non-floral stuff mostly. CdR seems safe and not too perfume-y, but what do I do if I have a sudden craving for an Amouage? Epic doesn’t exactly wear quietly. Maybe I’ll try just a dab under my shirt…
Hope everyone had a nice Valentine’s Day yesterday and all birthdays and anniversaries that I missed commenting on were wonderful. My beloved snuck out to the record store and got me Peter and the Wolf narrated by David Bowie 😀 So thoughtful! I didn’t realize he knew I wanted it. I was going to bake something but failed to do anything romantic or thoughtful at all since I got called in to work all day for a sick coworker. Oh, well.
Mmmm. You smell gorgeous!
And I love Peter and the Wolf. It was my favorite as a kid, and listening to it now would be so magical. And David Bowie! Big bonus.
Just looked it up online. It always WAS David Bowie! I had no idea.
It was one of the records I used to listen to for “nap time”. I never napped as a child and listening to either The Point or Peter and the Wolf was as much as I could manage.
Sweet. <3
The Point, yes! And another Peter & The Wolf fan, of course.
You smell great!
I have to comment that I really don’t understand anti-perfume comments when there are Scentsies in the office. Those are designed to throw fragrance through a whole room. Wouldn’t that be more intrusive than a personal scent? I really don’t get people sometimes.
I love Peter and the Wolf. David Bowie is a great narrator. Leonard Bernstein was wonderful, too.
Agree with Gi, if your workplace is Scentsy-friendly, you should be able to wear any fragrance you want and fly under the radar.
You smell fabulous!
You should wear Musk Tonkin but there’s no telling what the furry ones will do to you 😉
I have actually already tried that one. The humans didn’t notice (or didn’t comment if they thought I stank) and the office canines were only slightly more rudely nosey than usual.
Turns out I could have worn Epic today. We had a large dog with digestive troubles in the kennels and I could have worn my entire collection at once and gone unnoticed.
Days and days of rain in the forecast. Wearing No. 19 edt for its crisp, green and classic feel. I never tire of this one.
I have all concentrations of this perfume but EdT is still my favorite. You smell very elegant.
You smell perfect. I love that one.
My sweet and lovely NSTers. I really hope you’re all well. I’m sorry for my long absence. Things have been interesting lately, but I promise I’ve been fine. Thanks especially to LizzieB and Hajusuuri for checking in on me.
I said this to Haju in my email to her, which I think sums it up well – Last year was a bit challenging for a number of reasons (though not that bad honestly, and I certainly had it much, much better than many people!), and I think I ended up temporarily disengaging from a few things while trying to deal with the most pressing issues at hand. I’m still kind of there right now, in transition mode. Strangely, I haven’t even been wearing perfume much lately. My head is full of so many other things, but I am trying to come back to it. I went to a poetry event at a club last night wearing my Feminite du Bois, and felt a bit like I was returning to myself. Such a good feeling. Some remnants are still on me today, and providing me with great comfort.
Some of you may recall my epic roommate saga, and I am delighted to report that the gentleman has MOVED. OUT. My home is now mine, and I am relishing every second of it. I’ve moved things around, started buying pretty, Turkish-style rugs, am considering pink curtains, and generally indulging in my own brand of nesting. I come home, open my door, and feel delighted, even occasionally saying “Hellooooo apartment!” Makes me so happy.
I will be on the hunt for a new job soon, but in the meantime, I continue to be grateful for everything I have.
I really, really hope you’ve all been well in these tumultuous times, and that NST continues to provide you all with comfort and community when it’s needed.
Lots of love.
Welcome back, sweet lady. Pink curtains! Yessss!!
Thank you dear!!
Yay! There you are!
1) Yay on the nesting! Turkish style rugs and pink curtains sounds LOVELY, honestly.
2) I like to to great my home too when I arrive home. I think it is a good thing, to acknowledge your home as a shelter!
3) Being grateful for all the small and wonderful things is what gives definition and joy to life.
1) Yay! I’m going full girl over here.
2) It feels good, doesn’t it?
3) Preach, girl – preach.
Nice to hear your sweet contemplation again! And the break from perfume and all is totally understandable. Even if you become committed to unscented products and sniff rudely at passers by in the latest blockbuster fragrance, you are one of us!
I would never sniff rudely – never! 🙂 Thanks so much for your kind words. Glad to know I always have a home here with my perfume homies.
Glad to read your comment and know you are well.
Thank you Petunia!
It’s so good to read your post whether or not your are scented- but you smell great!
I’m glad you are well and that you can now be comfortable in your own place.
Thanks so much Wendysue! Much appreciated.
So glad you are back and doing ok! Happy to hear that you able to enjoy your home now.
Thank you thank you!
Nice to hear from you again and find out that you are fine. Welcome back!
Thanks so much!
I’m so glad to hear that you are well, and that you have gotten rid of that horrid person. Hello apartment indeed!
I’ll give it a hug on your behalf 🙂
Welcome back!
Thank you so much!
Nice to hear from you!
Hi Jalapeno!
So glad to hear you’re OK and the roommate drama is over!
Yes to pink curtains! ????
Thank you on both counts! 🙂
Welcome back and hallelujah the rommate from hell is gone!
Haha – thanks so much Cazaubon!
Woo hoo dearest! Welcome back!
Thank you!! And did you get a puppy??
There you are…we missed you. 🙂
You’re so sweet – thank you!
Ambre Russe for me today! Forgot how potent this one is but really gorgeous all the same.
I’ll pass on the hippo wallet, thanks. 😉
I recently had the same re-discovery with Ambre Russe and thought that maybe it wasn’t that bad that I missed the smaller bottle before the brand switched to 100 ml ones and had to go for a decant? It’s so strong that I don’t think I’ll use up even those 20 ml I have. But I like the scent.
I tried that one a while ago, a bit boozy right?
I liked it but it did not ‘wow’ me first time. Need to try it again, soon (probably more suitable for cold weather)!
AR is glorious on a crisp, snowy day. Sadly, we don’t have those here so my decant dwindles very slowly.
We had a bit of snow here in the low lands last weekend. But it’s al gone now.
Snowy periods never seems to last more than 48 hours nowadays. And most of the time they are grey and wet. Not sunny and crisp. 🙁
Boozy deliciousness, you do smell gorgeous!
All the storms from yesterday brought in Winter it seems. So, i decided to go with Figue from Molinard. Seems appropriate for the day.
A grey, rainy late winter day!
SOTD: Kai body lotion with a bit of the scent on wrists ( a generous sample from Essenza in Fremont!). VERY warm, tuberose-y and coconutty- very much a sort of subtle, clean sexy. What you would imagine a toned, bronzed Californian girl, of whatever ethnicity, wearing with a white sundress and a friendly smile. Wonderful. I may need to buy this (and will be buying from the shop)!
Extra: I highly suggest the Kneipp bath oils AND along with Epsom salts. After my workout yesterday, that soak was truly wonderful. I also suggest Champagne in the bath as well. Not exactly the best post workout drink, but hey.
Kai is yummy! I may have to get a bottle of the body lotion as it gets warmer.
SotD = 24 Faubourg EdT because “why not?”
Thank you to Robin for the Hermes inspiration today and to SheriG for wearing it on Monday. I like the vaguely bitter edge that floats through the flowers, a nice pairing for today. It began with cold fog and continues with crisp sunshine. A beautiful day for an Hermès carré, whether as a glass bottle or a silk scarf.
There’s a bit of hippo wildlife footage in the new PBS Spy in the Wild series. Fun stuff.
Yes to Hermes!
I have 24 Faubourg Eau Delicate from before I fell down the rabbit hole. It’s the JCE rendition of the original, so quite lovely it’s own right.
I didn’t even know 24 Faubourg Eau Delicate existed! Sounds like a lemming and a unicorn had a wonderfully fragrant baby. 🙂
Hey cousin!
OK, technically, I’ve only worn 24 Faubourg once, but it was enough to know you smell great! ????
Yesterday, someone on the boards mentioned wearing Lyric and that was the game plan for what I was going to wear for work. Since I wore Epic before my shower, I am at a loss because I want to wear Epic as well. I love Epic in all of it’s spicy rose goodness but I love Lyric and want to wear that as well. First world problem, I know.
Do Epic today and Lyric tomorrow – you’ll smell great both days 🙂
SOTD Aedes de Venustas Grenadille d”Afrique.
Comfort scent day 15— Mooching around a bit this AM a little worried that my very slight headache will rebloom into the six car pile-up in my head yesterday (how is that for a mixed metaphor!).
Tidying my dresser, some Bruno Acampora Jasmin parfum oil in a decant leaked onto my hands. PANIC! Not a migraine-friendly scent. Scrubbed my hands. Hope I am okay.
Sienna Musk, give me a little while and you shall be the comfort star for the day.
Take it easy and avoid any triggers: the weather is changing, so if you’re sensitive to that, the traffic situation in your head might be not ideal (you know how it is every time it starts raining).
I know. I call it PDS (instead of PMS)–that is Pre-Deluge Syndrome– also causes tiredness, headaches, and irritability.
I hope your headache doesn’t redevelop, and that your day turns out great. Stay well!
Hope you’re OK, that sounds grim.
I hope your day is going smoothly. 🙂
Sending you good wishes, Oakland Fresca!
Oh dear, that is some strong stuff, that BA. Hope you are ok.
No kidding! Al la Nuit is a kitten to the BA jasmine Wolverine.
Sounds like today is better than yesterday was for you, even with the close perfume encounter of the scary kind.
Today is “my” day on Lucas’ calendar of the Month of Roses, and I’m wearing Le Labo Rose 31.
No matter how cute (and price aside), until most of the places with membership cards go electronically (similar to what Starbucks did), a three-card holder is of no use to me.
Oooh, you smell wonderful.
I do! 🙂 Thank you.
You and Lucas really inspire me to try more rose centered scents!
So if one of the goals of this month was ‘rose awareness’, then you have succeeded. 🙂
Rose is a note/scent I am not attracted to, but I need to get out of my comfort zone, and there probably is a rose for everyone, right?
The rose-y scents I tried so far:
L’ombre dans l’eau ended up too sweet on my skin (too bad it loses the greenness), but Santal Majuscule was not bad (the rose is somewhat muted though), so further down the road we go!
From when I was regularly doing statistics posts on my blog, I know that rose is one of the most ubiquitous middle notes in perfumes (similar to how bergamot appears in, as it feels, most top notes lists), I have no doubts that you’ll find many perfumes that feature that note, in general, to like. Whether you’ll fall in love with any of the rose-heavy perfumes, it’s a different question. Mals (Muse in Wooden Shoes) has joined the project as well, so among our impressions, comments on all three blogs from the participants and daily SOTD here on NST you should be able to identify people whose perfume tastes are closer to yours – and then you should test whatever roses they like: you’ll save yourself a lot of time and money.
Undina, what is your opinion on Diptyque Essence Insensees Rose de Mai? I tried it very briefly last week (the stupid bottle was half broken and the SA was keeping an eye on what I was doing …), but it seemed quite nice; I wonder if I should try to get a sample to test it more properly.
I haven’t tried it yet though I was looking for it in two stores a couple of days ago. But I couldn’t find it myself, and SAs weren’t around in one place and didn’t look approachable in the other.
Since I read a couple of loud praises for this perfume recently, I’ll try to find it and test but with the only format 120 ml with a bulb atomizer it has to be beyond spectacular for me to go for it.
Awesome, looking forward to hearing your take on it! At the same time, I also want to be careful not to fall for it as that atomizer is a real issue (if they cannot even make them work in the store …)
I don’t understand why something that held 3 cards and had no upper flap was of any use to anyone, but I know very little about such matters.
I knew men who wouldn’t understand what to do with the third one – driver license, credit card and … what else? But even then I would worry for those two falling out.
For me, although I could not survive a 3-card wallet, it will contain driver’s license, credit card and subway/train pass.
Exactly. I would use something like that if I was going out for an urban hike and didn’t want to carry a purse.
I am wearing L’Instant de Guerlain over YR Monoi body oil. I’m actually enjoying it much more in cold weather.
That sounds like a nice combo, must remember to try that.
I had planned on wearing the new Commodity Bergamot for bright and cheerful, but I just wasn’t feelin’ it in the end. I do really like it though-tart lemony citrus with a hint of green. Maybe a travel spray for summer.
SOTD Rue Cambon. Mmmm.
Hi twin!
We smell greaaat!
I tried the Bergamot the other day. I thought it was lovely, and would be great for this summer.
I just watched a You Tube review on your scent last night.
I was just in my local Sephora this morning and they are now carrying the full Commodity line. I sniffed the Bergamot and it did seem lovely. The fact that they offer travel sprays is a definite bonus.
I have a travel spray of Wool. It’s great.
Commodity + bergamot + travel spray = probable purchase for me. I have a weakness for those things.
You smell fantastic!
Tauer Hyacinth & a Mechanic on this beautiful sunny day!
I am so curious about that one — say more, cazaubon!
It is interesting and hard to describe. The mechanic part has sort of leathery oily smell, layered over a crisp hyacinth floral note. It does what it says on the bottle and I love its quirkiness.
SOTD = No. 22, which suits my skin even better than No. 5. I am at the phase where spicy florals are starting to exert themselves over the musky powdery iris which I enjoy but I always look forward to the transition. Cold and dim today, but it appears we have finally found a new horse Helper. A big relief. Good help is hard to find. 🙂
You smell lovely!
‘Tis the season for Ostara — the daffodils and narcissus are blooming more every day in my garden. I’m noticing a certain milky similarity with Amaranthine today, with stemmy, sappy hyacinth and daffodil up front. So pretty.
I noticed a similarity between Ostara and Amaranthine as well.
So did I. And Ann Gerard Perle de Mousse, also done by Douchafour. PdM is my favorite of the 3.
I share your impressions, and Amaranthine is my favorite of the three. I was actually wondering today about wearing it. I ended up in Vanille Galante which to me also has some similarities with Amaranthine.
Lovely choice!
Summery SOTD #3 is “Sybarite” from Cloon Keen Atelier.
Top: incense and bergamot;
Mid: jasmine, bulgarian rose and sandalwood;
Base: amber, patchouli, musk and cedar.
I suppose it’s a slight cheat because even a summery incense is still an incense. It is wet and dreary here, and this one (from a FB) is hitting the spot. I’m about to go out to an after-hours workshop (it’s a voluntary Community of Practice thing), then jump on the train to London for a training refresher tomorrow followed by exam Friday.
Slight cheats are allowed 🙂
Morning, NST. Am late; overslept all the way to 6.15,no doubt thanks to the new med. wearing Black Cashmere for the week’s project. It’s so lovely I sm wondering why I bother to wear anything else, except that I feel like that about 31 RC, Coromandel, Ambre Narguile and about twenty others. It’s seriously raining here, and I smell just perfect for the weather. Gotta go. Be well, all.
Glad you got some sleep, and you do indeed smell lovely.
Yay for sleep!
Ditto everyone else: hurrah for sleep!
I’m wearing Vero Profumo Rubj EDP from a sample I’d completely forgotten I had until I came across it this morning. Not so much on the “tropical” front as the cumin is more forward than I remembered, and the passionfruit note that I think is supposed to be in the EDP seems less so.
Working the reverse hemisphere thing, as well as the easily influenced thing in a forgotten sample of Vanilia (remembered when I saw it mentioned here yesterday). Hopefully it will brighten a long day ahead of me.
Good luck!
I decided I needed a palate-cleanser after yesterday, so today I am crisp in Escentric 2. It makes me feel like a gin and tonic when I wear it.
Be well, hug everyone you love, and appreciate whatever you can. I had to be with a student as she got some terrible news, and I just want to go around hugging the universe to make sure it knows how grateful I am.
Hope your student is ok, and good advice, always.
Sorry to hear one of your students had a horrible day. I’m glad to hear that she had someone to lean on.
A bit of Body Shop Satsuma body oil mixed with my body lotion. Plumeria floral water on top, which I’ll keep spritzing throughout the day since it makes me think I’m in Hawaii.
Warding off a sinus pressure headache. Wonder if it’s a weather thing or if some allergy kicked up. Spent the day yesterday at the dog show watching breed judging. I had wanted the Boxer to win Best in Show last night because she was my favorite during the breed judging. So makes me want a house with land that can handle multiple dogs and cats….
Hope your would-be headache decided not to bother you today.
I smell sweet and fluffy in Mancera Roses Vanilla. I’ve been drawn to sweet vanillic roses lately, and this is one of my favorites. It’s really well-balanced and also nostalgic. It reminds me of Strawberry Shortcake dolls I played with as a kid.
Wearing Songes today. It is so lovely, and really is reminding me (and I know it should be the other way around) of the May Lindstrom skincare range–especially the Jasmine Garden mist.
I adore Songes. You smell wonderful today.
I am planning to wear that Friday – you smell great!
I’m wearing Orange Sanguine today and planning how I might cram screenings of all the Oscar Best Picture nominees in before the winners are announced. I’m going to an Oscars party and it would be nice to be able to discuss the films intelligently. I’ve seen La La Land and Hidden Figures so far. Might be a tight squeeze between skiing and kitchen reno taking up my time.
Love Orange Sanguine, I’m saving that for my Friday pick. I think it could be considered a modern day classic (?) You smell great!
There are so many good movies out right now. I’ve seen ‘Manchester’ ( which is now available to stream so you could watch from the comfort of your own home) and ‘Lion,’ they were both excellent. I can’t recommend ‘Lion’ enough, it’s the best movie I’ve seen in a very long time. Happy viewing!
I love Orange Sanguine also; it’s my go to when I have a trying day ahead. Either OS or Cedrat Enivrant will be my SOTD on Friday.
Seen the same two as you, plus Arrival, which I very much liked. Absorbing. Glad to hear another recommendation for Lion.
Amazing weather today…feels like spring if not summer…wearing several sprays of Do Son EDT…later I will put on some Do Son EDP because I’m crazy like that…
Do you find differences between the EDP and the EDT? I have a sample of one of them, not sure which, that I love….
The day got away from me and I never put on the EDP.
I shall wear it tomorrow and report in from the field. In fact shall I do a side by side of the EDT and EDP in the name science and report my findings. 😉
How kind of you to make this effort for the sake of science! 🙂 I look forward to your report of your discoveries!
I tried that for the first time last night! Way late to the party…
It definitely says spring/summer!
I wore Diptyque 2014 Essences Insensées today (the mimosa one) – it’s turned a bit milder and I’m desperate for spring! Now testing Puredistance I, which is quite nice but happily no temptation.
I wish I knew they had mimosa back in 2014 so I could have tried it at a store: I love mimosa but it’s so rare to have it done to my liking in perfumes that I gave up paying for more disappointing samples.
SOTD- Tom Ford Sahara Noir. What a wonderful incense!
Liaisons Dangerous, it’s coconutty so fitting in with the theme.
Today I am wearing Eau Monumentale. Just received a sample yesterday so thought I’d give it a go.
SOTD = SL Clair De Musc. My first Serge! I’m hoping it will work well for summer and most of our mild winters here in south Texas.
Cute wallet! I’m in House of Matriarch Trillium. We’re having a taste of spring here in Missouri so I’m going with it! Though wish my daffodils would go back underground… it’s only February!
That card holder is way cute. I bet it’s nice to be able to drop $610 on something like that!
Today I’m in a generous spritzing of Shalimar, from off-site storage (™Kanuka). I’m doing my part to freshen up the Hump Day air around me. ????
The EDP or the EDT? I was out doing some sniffing this morning and was trying to compare the two, I seem to be drawn to the EDT…
EDT today. Deciding between the two is quite the conundrum for me. Here’s my testing results so far:
I’ve done a side-by-side in the past to compare the longevity in particular, and I *thought* the EDT actually lasted a bit longer than the EDP. My impression is that the bergamot stands out more at the opening in the EDT, which is theoretically closer to the contrast between the notes in the extrait. That said, I really liked the EDP too. So, I’m going to have to do the side-by-side again to see if one really beats the other. The general consensus is that all versions are good, so in the end it comes down to a YMMV situation with how the versions wear on you.
Monsieur Guerlain’s take on the versions is here: http://www.monsieurguerlain.com/2015/09/shalimar.html?m=0
Awesome! Thank you for the link and for your impressions. I do love bergamot, which is probably why my initial instinct would be to go for the EDT. My best bet is probably to walk through Macy’s and do a spray of one on each wrist and spend the day comparing the two.
Outta sight!
Must give credit where it’s due!????
Santal Massoia today. Or at least for the first hour. I was so busy at school this morning, I didn’t notice when it slipped away. I will definitely need to pick something else for this evening- a ladies’ meet and greet at church for our new female associate pastor.
Santal Massoia is oddly compelling. Milk? Wood? Huh? I sampled it for the first time a few weeks ago. I’m glad you mentioned it, I want to try it again.
Enjoy the meet and greet. 🙂
Too bad Zoologist doesn’t have a Hippo scent.
Thanks to the folks here who yesterday reminded why this is one of my favorite corners of the Internet. Another dive into the sample stash today brought up SL Arabie. I’d better wear stuff like this while the weather is still somewhat winter-y. A weirdly mild one for me. I am wondering where the snow is.
I nerver let my guard down when it comes to snow. When you least expect it, expect it.lol
Shhhhh…cold, yes, snow NO! At the rate we’re going, we may get a snowstorm on Easter Sunday which is very late this year.
Wearing Hove Carnation. Have a pleasant evening, all.
Doused in Alaia (black bottle) after testing a few things earlier in the day. This is one that works for me year-round, but I haven’t worn it since last summer. I smell freaking fantastic.
It is dreary as F here, both misty and pouring down rain. BUT temps substantially warmer than we’ve had since last November, so I’ll take it. I guess I can finally call myself a true Seattleite – I’ll take wet and warm over sun and freezing cold.
You smell great. I bought a bottle of that end of last year.
Oooh, nice cardholder, but I don’t need one.
Continuing my Month of Roses, SOTD = Amouage Lyric
I have a decant from a swap with a lovely NST perfumista. A spicy rose that morphed back and forth between bright and powdery which, because there is no Violet’s in the notes, probably comes from Tonka bean and musk. I used 3 spritzes but think I need to add one more.
I am back in the game procuring samples with my charming personality. How else was I able to get the Jo Malone SA to fill MY atomizers with Myrrh & Tonka and Incense & Cedrat? In any case, maybe I can see myself owning both of these. Heh, perhaps another idea for the Splitmeet! Decisions, decisions…
You smell sublime! Alas, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to charm anyone into samples…or anything else for that matter. ????
Those are both good. M & I is on my hit list.
Nice! I tested the same Jo Malones at my local Nordies last week. Naturally I liked Incense and Cedrat more since I LOVE incense. How was the longevity on you? On me it only lasted couple hours and for this price I pass!
Yay…the Splitmeet cometh!
