Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Goodbye and good riddance to January. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Luctor et Emergo by The People of the Labyrinths.
Reminder: 2/3 will be Lemming Friday — you acquired a sample because you kept hearing about it (here or elsewhere), now you think you might just have to buy the bottle. A variation on a theme suggested by SheriG.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Tonymoly Pocket Bunny Perfume Bar, with three 9g solids in Bebe Bunny, Juicy Bunny and Bloom Bunny) is around $18 at Amazon.
I am wearing some of the last bit of Balenciaga Le Dix that I bought several years ago off ebay. I had read someone comment on NST about it having a note I liked. Great find, maybe a little dated but so am I these days. Wish I could find some bath things scented like this. By the way (dating myself as “not” the current generation) if you are at Peets, Starbucks, or the like and decide to watch TV on your iphone, use earphones for heavens sake!!! ok, smelling in my perfume and trying to calm down…
You smell great! Deep breath!
U smell wonderful, I’ve got a little vintage bottle of La Dix too, it’s so nice in cold weather, a bit too powdery in warmer weather for me tho, I do like powder, but I think it feels a bit too stuffy.
Ohhhh, one of my favorites – you smell fabulous.
1) You smell lovely
2) People who use their mobile devices without earphones get an EARFUL from me. Seriously, people.
Here here! Worst example of this was one evening my son and I were in the waiting room (for four hours!) of a veterinary emergency room with our cat who had been bested in a fight and needed stitches. The place was packed with people and animals, harsh overhead lights beaming down on old ladies clutching asthmatic terriers, two huge bikers and their mom with a dog bleeding profusely, a sobbing group of children, hipsters with their well-behaved labs and too loud voices, and one guy watching violent, shoot ’em up shows one after the other on his phone at TOP volume (w a little dog tucked inside his jacket the whole time).
You would be surprised how many people we have to tell this to at the library. True, we don’t shush people anymore. But come on. You don’t play your device out loud at the LIBRARY of all places!
I second- or third?- that Luna Green! I sub and I’m amazed when folks watch things on high or listen to music, their books or podcasts on high. Yep, some customs have changed. Being polite about your noise is still an appreciated custom.
Le Dix sounds very nice
ShellyW!
You smell warm and lovely. I have a sample of Luctor et Emergo somewhere. I’m inspired to pull it out for a sniff.
Today I’m wearing Adjatay by The Different Company. I bought a FB in Paris last spring, then changed my mind about it and sold it. Later, I went and bought another sample and I remembered why I bought it in the first place. I find it edgy and sexy. Not sure I want another FB, but at least a decant for sure.
Ha, I have done similar things. Are they doing that one in a travel spray yet?
I don’t see it on their website, but that would be perfect.
They might add it eventually.
This sounds really good! I think I might get a sample as well.
How’s the leather? Soft or strong?
I’d say strong, but not stronger than the tuberose. It feels equally floral and leathery to me. Many tuberose-centric fragrances are more tuberose than I want for extended periods of time, but the leather note here is exactly the right thing to make me love this one.
Read a few others thoughts on this and I definitely think it’s worth trying. Thanks!
Let me know if you are interested in some . Providencepepper at the geee mail.
Thanks, Wendysue! That’s very nice of you.
I’ve added it to a bunch of samples I’m purchasing via Luckyscent so I’m all set.
Ohh – I have one of those bunny minis. The holder is adorable, but the Bloom scent is a horrid, ptrochemical mess on me. I did remember about “Rabit * 3” this morning though.
Today, I am wearing Dior’s Miss Dior Cherie EDP (200?) from a coffret of minis that I bought at duty free in Paris on my very 1st European jaunt ( 2010).
This version is heavy on the rose, oakmoss and patchouli, and reminds me of my Mother, as that trip was to scatter her ashes in Paris – she never got to make the trip, so I took her after her passing.
Those bunnies ARE cute. Kinda not surprising that they don’t smell great though.
Ha, no, not surprising. But would bet Bebe Bunny is worse than Bloom Bunny.
I hope your memories of your mom are comforting and as beautiful as you smell!
What a thoughtful trip. I hope each time you wear anything from that coffret it reminds you of wonderful times with your mother.
That’s a lovely story, and you smell great today
Sunny and very humid here today so I’m wearing Un Jardin sur le Toit. I wasn’t so sure about this when I got it but it’s really grown on me, enough to move to a comfortable 3rd on the Jardin scale, some days even an even 2nd!
I think that one is beautiful, you smell great! I love the Jardin line too.
What are number 1 and the other number 2? By the way, I bought an Essano rosehip with pomegranate body oil and it is really good for turning lizard legs into silk stocking legs. I’m not sure if the scent reminds me of anything, though.
Sur le Nil, Apres la Mousson, Sur le toit, mediterraneo, Monsieur Li.
Kanuka I did have a sneaky sniff of some of the other products but only the body lotion has that smell. It isn’t rosey, it’s a bit pink but not too girly or sugar sweet, and yes, sooo reminiscent of something! Really nice product too.
Definitely one I could see qualifying for me in lemming territory. I have samples and love it. Spritzed it on in Duty Free before my flight last week.
I don’t know if this counts as a lemming or not, but right after I read about L’orpheline when it was released it seemed a lot of people liked it and so I got a sample and LOVED it, but waited until nearly two years later when finances finally allowed for me to get a bottle (discounted). Since then I’ve read that it’s more of a love it/hate it scent and most people tend to be put off by the cream/incense mix. I still love it though and am wearing that today.
Those bunnies!!!! Those are so cute. I’ve got the Tonymoly rice toner and love it.
Cream/incense mix sounds yummy.
January it will nice to see the back side of you
Lemming: Cristalle EDT from my scarf I sprayed yesterday while being out & about.
Cristalle EDT and I have a history. It was the first perfume bottle I ever purchase when I was young. I saved my money and it costs me 37 bucks.
I awhile ago I was gifted a bottle of the EDP and it just wasn’t the same so I passed it on to someone who liked that version.
Smelling the EDT on my scarf really has me wanting another bottle. Or at least a small sample or decant to spray on myself when I was to remember that specific time in my life. I am thinking about the swap meet and maybe I can get lucky. We shall see. Trying hard not to buy this year. anyone want to part with theirs let me know
I wish I could help. I think it’s so special to be able to spritz oneself into the past. It’s amazing to me how emotionally connected we are to scent. I have no Cristalle for you, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you find some.
If you are interested I can send you a sample of the EdT in the meantime. Please, let me know. monica67@aol.com
thank you! so generous
And I can send a decant of EDT if you’d like. Contact me at gmail (my username @) if you’re interested.
<3 thank you
Cristalle edt is on my list, a lemming created by the perfume fairy who sent me a sample of the scen I’m wearing today. It’s such an uplifting and happy scent.
My little boy and I made you’re scones on Friday, thank u for the recipe! Which Coco lipstick did u buy?
How did the scones come out?
I am making crepes on Sunday
The scones were really yummy!
I didn’t like any of the Chanel crayons. did you try?
No, haven’t tried the crayons.
YUM! I am making crepes tomorrow
To my NYC friends, just had my eyes checked at a pharmacy in the UES and saw an open bottle of Shalimar Cologne for on sale for 50 bucks no box. and EL Azure Soliel for less. Just in case. I am on a No Buy so I thought I would throw it out there…
Lovetosmellgood, I have a 15 ml (mostly full) bottle that was a blind buy off eBay a few years ago after reading all the rave reviews it gets on perfume blogs. It just doesn’t click for me and is yours for the taking if you’d like. My email is pkwisdom and yahoo is my home????
Lovestosmellgood I mean
I sent you an email..thank you!
I wish I had known, shopgoodwill.com had two bottles of Cristalle end yesterday. Goodwill stores all over the US sell the perfume and jewelry and stuff in online auctions and I have seen some surprising finds – Theorama, a sealed box of Hypnotic Poison, lots of Chanel No 5, etc. It’s worth a look if you are so inclined. I’m not shopping much this year and I keep seeing things that I want some perfume lover to get so I can shop vicariously!
ah! that would be great but I am trying not to buy this year
Shopgoodwill.com???? Oh my…I am equally thrilled and wish I didn’t know about this at the same time!
I had exactly the same reaction! lol
I am wearing vintage Guerlain Chamade perfume from a sample vial, one or two drops is enough.
Love Chamade. I was in Guerlain in Paris and the extrait is gorgeous but the price horrible…
You smell beautiful .
Just a drop of Chamade is all you need, right? It is the most gorgeous fragrance. I am thinking I need to put it in rotation stat! It definitely wards off winter blues.
I love Chamade extrait (modern version) and suspect it was even better when it was launched but I usually do not even try vintage perfumes – not to create lemmings that are hard to fulfill.
If it makes you feel any better, I had bottles of both the modern (brushed gold box) and vintage extrait, and side by side to my nose they were very, very similar. Not enough difference to quibble about. I had read quite a lot about how the greens on top had changed in the newer versions, but I didn’t find that. Both are beautiful!
It does make me feel better – thank you, Rappleyea
I almost bit the bullet and ordered some vintage Chamade last night. Maybe I will today! New month new budget, right?
You smell wonderful today.
Finishing my sample of Smell Bent She Wolf. The first time that I wore it I found it very sweet and clogging. Today, for my surprise I am enjoying it. Pretty woody vanilla scent with the cedar and musk notes nicely blended. Easy to wear and it looks that it will stay on me the whole day. I would not get a full bottle, but probably a travel sprays or roll-on.
I believe this one comes in an oil-based roll-on…
SOTD is Vetiver Royal Bourbon (Oriza Legrand). Yum! Thinking I will need a FB of this, but I have to be strong, I have enough perfume to last several lifetimes already.
A good vetiver is hard to resist. I too have too many bottles. But vetiver? That’s tough.
The bad news is I’m home from work with a cold and earache. The good news is I’m all by myself so I will be able to test as many perfumes as I want, loud and proud.
Ugh, hope you are better soon! Enjoy the testing.
Yuck. Hope you feel well enough to enjoy your perfume and get better soon.
Hope you feel better soon.
Feel better soon! Spray with wild abandon.
Feel better soon. Enjoy your perfume adventure!
Hope you feel better soon!
Ouch. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Feel better soon!
Get better soon! May perfumes you sample have a healing effect on you.
That’s the silver lining to being home sick but an earache is miserable, hope you feel better soon.
Feel better soon! Chase the earache away with perfume.
Hope you’re up and about soon!
Get well soon! Enjoy testing in the meantime.
I am wearing Cuir de Lancome, perfect. That was morning now I´m going to spray something different, let me see… Mitsouko from a mini. Now, there´s a fragrance I still don´t get, maybe I´m not old enough to understand it. Like not getting Virginia´s Woolf The lighthouse… yet.
Might help?

Thank you! Will check it out.
I think the trick with Lighthouse is to read it all in one go. Or as much of it as you can. The book teaches you how to read it, but if you break up the lessons they don’t “take.” At least, that was my experience.
Well said!
You smell great (both CdL and Mitsouko)!
No scent yet, but just unwrapped a bar of Claus Porto Alface almond oil soap. Smells very nice, but to me, not of almond. I guess the search continues!
Was your choice of today inspired by yesterday’s mention of it on your post about the latest Aeryn?
I’m wearing (way too much) Sarrasins. I don’t care, the world needs more jasmin.
Yes! And yes, it does.
Sarrasins sounds amazing, I loved reading the review in the Guide. I think my greatest perfume wish is that SL would release all my favourites and possible favourite perfumes into the export/spray bottle/available in the UK line!
It is utterly and completely gorgeous!
I love Sarrasins, you smell gorgeous
Thank you! I’m enjoying my own sillage very much today
Pump up the jasmine, pump it up!
I think people would faint if I would be wearing more of it.
Lol!!
The world definitely needs more jasmine! ????
I just bought some jasmine samples yesterday, but didn’t include that one. Hmph. If the others don’t work, I’ll remember this one.
I’m wearing SL Feminite du Bois combined with remnants of vintage Opium left on my red wool sweater from the last time I wore it (to a Chinese New Years party). At first all I could smell was the newly sprayed FdB, but now the Opium is taking over.
Opium always takes over!
I used to love the smell on my sweaters, DAYS after I had worn vintage Opium (before it was considered vintage)
Yesterday’s NST review reminded me of the Guerlain Les Desert’s d”Orient and I decided to wear Songe d’un Bois d’Ete. It is a wonderful Guerlain Oriental with oud and a bit of leather. It has just enough cumin to give it a little edge. One of my favorite Guerlains (along with the other two in the collection) in years. It is too bad that they were in such limited distribution.
S(ip)otD: MF American Breakfast Tea for that malty, cocoa warmth.
Songe is beautiful and I love Une Rose Nacrée too. They are still available in Europe, to the best of my knowledge.
These are beautiful. So finely crafted.
I love that one, the most of the 3.
I liked the line (Encens Mythique is my favorite). Notino (aka beautyspin) still has them and with the better price than was available from Guerlain counters.
I’m starting the day much earlier than normal and out of sorts. I’m in PST btw. My cell phone had a clock malfunction, and my alarm on it went off at 4 rather than 6. I noticed the real time showing on my clock across the room and went in the living room and kitchen to confirm it was really 4. Got back in bed grumbling and had my SO set his phone to 6 for me. THEN the alarm on his phone went off at 5 instead of 6 because he didn’t realize his phone had the same error. Of course at that point I was really frustrated and couldn’t get back to sleep no matter how tired I felt. My body, in all the confusion, was not letting me get more sleep. So I gave in and got out of bed at 5:25. Sigh.
No perfume picked out yet. Will report back once I’m scented.
Oh, I’m sorry. I hope you find something beautiful to wear that makes you feel better. I was up until almost 5am with a horrible kink in my neck that was making me nauseated and headachy, so I am extra sympathetic.
Had a kink in my neck this week too–and those arnica montana pellets helped make it go away more quickly.
Thanks, and I’m also sorry to hear about your pain and poor sleep. I’m trudging along at this point, trying and failing to not be irritated by everything at work.
I just HATE those days. Get good sleep tonight!
Once again, despite having resolved to finally remember, I forgot to say Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit this morning. Oh well, I’m not terribly superstitious anyway. SOTD is my new obsession, vintage Vol de Nuit EDT. So comforting, yet elegant in its powdery-spicy way.
I bet u smell exquisite, I still haven’t tried VDN, I’ve been put off smelling current version by the review in The Guide, but I’ve been hearing lots of great things about it, so I probably should remedy that.
The current version of the EDT is weak, watery, not worth trying. Seek out a vintage bottle (look for a clear, slightly curvy bottle, not the columnar “refill” bottle).
Okay, this evening I’m trying what I think is vintage-ish VdN extrait, and MAN is it gorgeous. The vintage EDT is beautiful too, but if you run across a bottle/decant/sample of the extrait, do try it.
And just like that, it’s February! WOW!
SOTD: Note White Pepper Mandarin. I LOVE this stuff. Eeeeeking out the last of a sample, and I’ll hate to be without it. Onto the never ending wishlist it goes!
Ha, seemed to me that January lasted very nearly forever! Glad it was quick for you.
Almost joined Gabriela with the every gorgeous Cuir de Lancome, but Bois des Iles was calling my name. Can never get enough of this beauty.
Happy to have temps in the 40s today! Up and down, like a seesaw, which I never enjoyed in the parks as a kid.
You couldn’t go wrong with either choice. They’re both beauties.
Bois de Iles is beautiful!
SOTD is Tuberose Angelica. Happy Hump Day Everyone! The city is all abuzz with Superbowl Fever. I haven’t seen any famous people, but my friend who has volunteered for the event saw Lady Gaga. Forget her, I’m scoping out the football players. Lol!????
Oh, wow, Gaga!
I saw her once at SFA, flanked by 300 lb bodyguards.
It’s a miracle! The sun is out and shining! Of course it came with a lot of snow. Inspired by someone the other day, wearing MJ Decadence.
Scent twins! I would get a bottle if it was so darn embarassing.
The color is gorgeous. Admittedly, the cap is a little much.
SOTD Is my beautiful brand new Histoires de Parfum Moulin Rouge, the lemming was created about 8 months ago by a lovely perfume fairy here on NST, who generously sent me some of her favourites, many have turned into my favourites as well (Journey woman, Heure Exquise, Misia edt, Ostara and Cristalle edt (I plan to get the latter in the spring).
I’ve been smelling the empty sample vial for such a long time, it feels so wonderful to be finally wearing it today!
Oh I also wanted to mention my other lovely new thing, I met up with my brother, his family and my sister last Saturday at The London Transport Museum (brilliant for small and older children, highly recommended) , and my sister gave me my Christmas present (I haven’t seen her in a while) a gorgeous 1940’s brown Bessie teapot, with flowers, and a lovely very 1930’s criss-cross design on both sides, and a really lovely curved spout!
I’d got her a rather lovely 1920’s/30’s compact, with an unusual oriental design on it in beautiful pastel colours in an octagon shape. I found it at my local market for £10, reduced as near closing time.We were both very pleased with our gifts, definitely worth the wait!
Lovely indeed, and a mood-booster to have Christmas in late January.
you smell lovely!
I don’t know if it’s still there or not, but there was a Caffe Nero (or Costa?) I used to go to that looked right into the Transport Museum. I never managed to go in the museum itself, but I did spend some time looking through the reproduction posters in the shop on several occasions. So cool!
Ooh, I keep meaning to try Moulin Rouge. I love powdery makeup scents. Congratulations on your bottle! ????
U should definitely try it if u like makeup scents!
Lovely. I bought a bottle early on. I love to wear ut for sleep. It’s so pretty and soothing.
I can see how it would be wonderfully soothing for bed.
I have been crazy busy, and tomorrow we are going on a two weeks and a bit more much needed holiday to South Africa! Not close to Johanob, but nice to know he is somewhere in that big place.
Once I am back and hopefully less crazy busy I can send you some of my new loves, as we seem to have similar taste: Arbolé, Une Rose Chyprée and Calling All Angels. Let me know if you are interested! How nice to read about the tea pot present!
Wearing Arbolé today, calming on a stressed out day.
PS if there are any April Aromatics fans out there, who find her FB’s a bit steep pricewise, she has a limited offer of 15 mls bottles, very cute. Still pricey though, but imho worth it.
Oh, great trip! Can’t wait to hear about it. We went for 10 days for a wedding back in 2006. Loved that trip.
Thank u, that would be wonderful, All of those sound beautiful, and I would love to try them.
U would love the teapot, I will send u a pic, it has pride of place on my shelf.
Hope u have a wonderful, much earned restful and fun holiday, I know January is a really busy month for u.
Today I am wearing Dune EDT. Another unsniffed purchase and one I’ve been very happy with. I’m always careful to apply with a light hand as we have an employee who lodges complaints all the time about people wearing fragrance (even when they don’t).
What a miserable person! Dune sounds really intriguing.
Hopefully people will learn some day that a little love and acceptance goes a long way… Enjoy your Dune!
You smell fabulous!
And to think of all the complaints we decline to lodge about those who should wear fragrance, color, or even at least a smile!
You smell wonderful!
The bunnies are so cheerful!
My heating system broke sometime during the night- if I say rabbit rabbit rabbit now, does it count? Luckily, I have a service call scheduled later today because the thermostat hadn’t been programming properly. It’s going up to 48 degrees today, but colder tomorrow. The oven is doing double duty right now!!
I’m wearing Alahiiiine. It’s a yummy and warm lemming scent. It raises the ambient temperature a degree or two because of the heat radiated during repeated wrist sniffing.
I don’t wear Alahiine everyday, but I have noticed all my jackets and sleeves on my coats smell like it! Its gorgeous!
Bunnies are always cheerful! I’m a big fan myself and wouldn’t mind a few hopping around my apartment if my husband was on board.
We had friends (now in CA) that had two in their apt. years ago and it was such fun to go over there and have them move about the place and interact with us. One had those big flop ears I love — so cute!
I keep telling my husband that once our boys head off to college I’m going to get a Flemish giant and have it in the house. We’ll see!
I’ve always wanted one of those mini breeds – the kind that look like babies even when they’re grown up.
Alahine is perfectly warm and gorgeous! I hope your heater is fixed soon.
Brrrr! I hope your heater is fixed soon and at a much lower cost than you expect. You smell wonderful.
I’m wearing CdG Red Palisander because I apparently have no idea what week it is. It’s funny – when I put my nose up close it smells woody and interesting, but every time I get a random waft from far away I just smell laundry-y.
Uh oh.
I’m wearing Kyoto today…and painting again *sigh* but the end of my home renovations are finally in sight. Eight more weeks if everyone keeps to the plan.
I’d guess that fully half of my perfumes came from someone here mentioning them–I know Kyoto did, and Theorema, Alahine, California Reverie, Box of Eels, Ashoka and Bombay Bling, Cuir d’Lancome, Bronze Goddess, Infusion d’Iris and the Absolue, and a bunch more I can’t recall at the moment. For Friday, there’s nothing I’ve read about here and sampled that’s waiting for a FB purchase so I’ll wear something I’ve already bought. A sample of Mohur extrait is in my Luckyscent cart and might be the next bottle if I like it.
You smell fantastic, and very good luck with staying on track!
NST is the number one place where I find out about new perfumes, so I could go on with this week’s project forever. Wearing Falling Trees today because it’s so nice, but I’ll be joining after I shower, with Fille en Aiguilles. When I first discovered perfume blogs, and before I found decant retailers such as Surrender to Chance, Serge Lutens was a lemming so strong it almost hurt. Have never seen a bell jar in person, but at least I have my little purple box filled with SL decants and samples, and that makes me a happy, very happy gal.
The same for me. Harder for me to identify is a fragrance I have purchased that was NOT discussed on NST–maybe my Chamade Extrait which my husband gave me… I am true lemming.
Triple strength coffee.

Long morning workout.
Even longer shower using Korres Jasmine shower gel, I would have stayed in there all day, if possible.
Lost 2 of the 3 pounds gained in Nov/Dec, my jeans seem larger. Yey, b!tchy friends referenced a few days ago have a field day with love handles. LOLOLOL
LADDM Andy Tauer, this smells better every time I wear it. !!
Carpe Diem. Peace.
I keep meaning to get back into working out in the morning. But my bed is so warm and cozy! I tend to do it after work, and I am giving up my habitual happy hours (except on Saturday) to do it.
I bought some Korres shower gels on special and I can’t wait to try them.
I never used to be a morning person, but things change.
P.S. Look for the tester bottles of Decadence, they don’t have the tacky a$$ cap.
Love that Korres Jasmine! I slathered myself in the body butter last night.
I miss having time for morning workouts — such a great way to start the day! And I have a big bottle of Korres Jasmine shower gel, standing by for spring. Definitely makes for long showers with lots of big inhales!
Peace, love and triple strength to you!
Thanks Everyone !!
Prada Candy Florale.
SOTD is 10 Corso Como because it calms me down. Emergency question: What scent does one wear to one’s thesis defense??? Either specific scents or criteria to consider appreciated. See you on the other side!
Something either calming or confidence boosting? Best of luck!
I say whatever scent that speaks to you in an enpowering way….that makes you feel like Wonder Woman! 10 Corso Como is soooooo good!
Feel confident and self-righteous in your choice, and about your defense. We are all crossing our fingers, touching wood, throwing salt, and minding our ps and qs for you! Go get ’em!
I would wear 31 Rue Cambon, personally.
Just suggested it. Smells like a Noble Prize winner.
Nobel, darn autocorrect.
I think almost anything Chanel would work – there’s something about remembering, “yes, I’m wearing Chanel,” that does wonders for confidence.
I agree. Number 19 is my take charge perfume.
I’m sure you will rock the defense. Please tell us how it went, I’m rooting for you from another hemisphere. As for the perfume, my suggestion would be something classic and structured that makes you feel like a you’re the boss, such as No 19, Cambon, Mitsouko, Amouage Jubilation 25 or even Guérlain Vétiver. These, I believe, project a confident image and never fail to reassure me.
Ditto on that, and I would add Aromatics Elixir. Great for spine strengthening. Good luck!
Something quiet and close to skin? Just a wisp. You want others to listen to what you have to say, and not to wonder what on earth you’ve been thinking while putting on “that awful smell” (unless, of course, you know that everybody you’re going to see there love perfumes).
Good Luck!
I wore the scent my father used to wear ( when he was alive, obviously)…it was like having his supportive presence in the room with me. It also put things in perspective. Good luck.
Hey Kanuka, what scent did your father wear? I love the thought!
I think that my father must have really liked perfume though we never talked about it. I just took it for granted that he always smelled good. The scents i associate with him are Eau Sauvage , Van Cleef & Arpels Tsar (and Pour Homme), Ted Lapidus from the 70-80s, and a lot of colognes with ‘French fern’ …he really loved fern. I hadn’t made the connection before but I’ve just realised that my love of walking through fern and bracken may actually be connected to him. He was so wonderful, my best friend.
Thank you for that. It sounds like he did love perfume and scents; it just probably never occurred to him to talk about it.
Thanks for sharing
Memories!
I wore black slacks, a white button-down shirt and a black blazer. I was told by one of my friends (after the defense) that I looked like a sommelier. However, I would love to be a sommelier, so I didn’t care.
Fragrance? I wore deodorant and cigarette smoke. This was before I could afford perfume. I suggest you wear something that has a slightly cold vibe, to encourage quickness of thought and stiffness of spine.
You are going to do an amazing job tomorrow! Breathe, and do try to savor the moment a little bit – it is something that’s been looming for so long, and after tomorrow, it will be in your rear-view mirror.
No 19 seems to be spine straightening for many, including myself. However, definitely wear something that provides you comfort and confidence. No doubt you have worked hard to get to this point and will be stellar!!
SOTD is vintage body cream of Cassini by Oleg Cassini. It has this massive vintage, classic lady type whollop of jasmine (with indoles), tuberose, oakmoss, vetiver, and civet, and everything else in the kitchen…. It has really creamy base notes that last forever. Like a “wet” version of Beloved. Sometimes I just want this type of complex fragrance. It makes me stand up straight!
Oh that sounds truly wonderful. I bet your hug today will smell amazing!
I have a nasty sore throat, so I’m comforting myself with some Avon Cotillion. One of my grandmothers and several of my great-aunts were (and are) very fond of the old Avon scents, so they bring back fond memories. I’m not sure of the notes, but it’s a spicy floral and I’m getting whiffs of carnation and the drydown has something faintly chypre-ish about it before it finally turns soft and powdery. Some of the Avon perfumes smell kind of thin and cheap but this one has more depth than I expected.
Ooooh, you smell very nice. Hope the throat is better quickly.
I remember some of the Avon fragrances from years ago were wonderful. My great-aunt bought them just for the bottles and gave them to my grandmother to use up and then return empty. I had lots of perfume to play with when I visited Grandma’s house.
Feeling hungover, without the benefit of actually having had any alcohol-induced fun the night before. Late night and then didn’t sleep well, but I’m wafting No 22 edt today. I’m loving this one more and more. Ruh, roh! This might also be a Friday contender…
My favorite Chanel Exclusif, you smell fantastic!
Thank you! I can’t believe it took me so long to try it.
Just tried 22 last weekend and rather loved it!
No 22 is there on my list for sure. You smell wonderful!
No 22 is a beauty. Are you wearing the EDT or the EDP? Really, I’m curious if the EDP is as good or better than the EDT.
I tried the EDP and I enjoyed it! Its not as “voluptuous” as the parfum I have from the 90’s but the dry down on me was the same. I tested them both on each arm. Staying power was good
I’m wearing the EDT but sampled the edp also and can barely tell the difference. I thought the EDP might be a tad sweeter, but the EDT is smelling as sweet to me today. So, no striking differences to me.
I have a 15 ml vintage splash of the EDT which I love. I was just wondering if the current EDP is as good.
SOTD: Estee Lauder Sensuous EDP. Finally got myself a new bottle, since I have been running low for a while.
I need to wear mine, I keep forgetting it!
Wednesday. Goodbye, Janus!
1) SOTD: In MJ Decadence. As decadent as a bouquet picked by a 3 year old, this is bright and sparkling vanilla, with a plummy-ambery depth. I would buy it if the bottle wasn’t so darn vulgar and dumb.
2) Ugh, I am finally able to meet with mediation companies re: my house flooding. Of course, that is in time for another winter storm to visit us in the PDX metro area. Sigh.
So sorry about your flooding–must be exhausting to deal with!
Wearing Deneuve today since I have had such a craving for it. And I seem to have a ton of it.
It’s such a beautiful perfume! Too bad it’s discontinued. You smell great!
I’m in Mechant Loup today; not a lemming, but a long-term love that takes me back to my days as a wildland firefighter in a sublime, wilderness setting. Feeling nostalgic for those days of wild freedom and inspiration, in these days of domesticity.
I wish I’d bought one of those 15 ml bottles of ML when they were still around. And what a nice scent association!
Couldn’t be wearing a more lemming scent. Second time trying Civet, this time more judiciously applied. I was tempted by Lucas and Undina to undertake a rose month, but think I need a comfort/cozy month in fact. So, I am off to the proverbial races in Civet and a thick soft sweater. My month of cozy has begun.
Was hunting for a St. Christopher icon this AM in my tchotchke drawer (I am Jewish so don’t generally have them lying around but thought I might have picked one up somewhere!!). I will have get one. Thinking of the story of the patron saint of travelers carrying the nameless baby tucked inside his cloak to safety across rough waters… Safe travels to everyone, your family, friends and colleagues.
I ordered the Zoologist sampler pack and am really looking forward to its arrival! I’m glad you have Civet to comfort you.
The St. Christopher thought is a tender one. Today is St. Brigid’s day, too: patroness of babies, travelers on the water, and the poor (among others), in case anyone has one of her medals around.
Scent twins!
Month of cozy is a good idea too. My only conflict with the month of roses was that February is still a good month to wear my “winter” perfumes, so by switching to less winter-y roses I shorten an already short period that can be kind of considered a colder season in our area. But I’ll try to add some of my ambers and heavier orientals to those evenings when I wear during the day rose perfumes that do not stay on my skin through the day.
Misia jumped into my hand this morning, so now I smell like expensive makeup.
That’s it!!! My sample of Misia leaked in my makeup bag and now my make up smells exquisite!
Upgrade!
Sampling Alaia, which I wouldn’t have tried before reading about here since I’ve never seen it anywhere. I got chalk for quite some time; don’t think I’ll put it on my list even though I love the bottle.
I love the bottle too. I didn’t get chalk, but I didn’t get anything I felt like wearing either. So many people whose perfume taste crosses over with my own really love it, so maybe my nose is a little broken.
You smell great–even if you don’t necessarily think so yourself. ????
It’s warm here today, so I reached for Hermes Un Jardin sur le Toit. And I’m so happy I did. Such a horrible few days…I needed the comfort that this scent brings me.
So glad it is comforting you! And jealous of your warm weather.
Thank you, Robin. We have to take what we can get these days, right?
I am wearing Amber Flush for for the first time today…quite nice..with some vintage Coco EDT…embracing the old and the new.
As you might imagine, I smell outstanding.
You DO smell outstanding! ????
tell me about the oil..I haven’t smelled that one yet.
It smells quite a bit like Amber Flash to me. There is some patchouli which is on the dirtier side. I liked it today but didn’t love it.
There are two reviews for it on Luckyscent…the latter says it smells strongly of creosote….which is smokey I assume and maybe I am attributing it as patchouli when in fact it is creosote.
Fils de Dieu on this sunny Wednesday.
Yum!
2nd the Yum! I thought about wearing it this a.m. It’s always good.
SOTD is Tauer’s PHI. One of my top five scents and I don’t wear it often enough.
Lunch time and I’ve been on a burger kick lately. My mouth is watering over an Angus burger with Monterey Jack cheese with all the fixings. Just about to dig in, Yum!
One of my top faves as well. Burger sounds great.
SOTD = Spellbound, from another freebie meet decant. This smells lovely to me, I love the initial blast of cloves, but it also made my nose run like a faucet for an hour. Being a glutton for punishment and because it does small good, I will put on some more tonight just to see I’d the reaction repeats itself, but I suspect this will be headed for the Pass it On box….
Funny: Spellbound was the favorite scent of a college friend. She said it made her sneeze for the first few minutes every time she wore it but she loved it enough that she didn’t care.
Yay, I said Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit this morning!
SOTD = Mohur Extrait
I am leading Lucas’ Rose Month with this gorgeous rose and cardamom perfume. It is not simply a stronger version of the EDP (which I like, not love); it actually feels like a different spicier perfume.
Undina is doing a Rose Month as well and I may end up doing it as well with my definition of a rose perfume: as lomg as Fragrantica has rose in the nores list, it qualifies.
Wish I had known about his Rose month, as I am just getting into roses.
Do wear your favorites!
I missed you on the first day, but a month of roses sounds great. Will be joining you tomorrow for that
It is not too late to start
Mohur Extrait is the best! You smell wonderful!
Thank you! It is a desert island perfume for sure!
LOL I guess we’re all participating, then. *Joins you in Jour d’Hermès Gardénia.*
Woo hoo, the more the merrier!
I said Rabit x 3 as well, and i’m wearing Mohur Extrait today with you.
I agree that the extrait has a different feeling, I like it much more than the EdP version.
I love your definition of rose perfume:)
Scent twins! My definition expands the candidates for RMSOTD!
The mornings have suddenly got a lot darker and cooler, and the days shorter. Feels pre-autumn, or summer-noir. Lots of lilies, roses and sweet peas flowering in our neighbourhood . I’m wearing pomegranate noir and planning my day anead.
I think so too, and we’ve only just had a proper summer arrive. What a muddle the weather is in!
You southern hemi dwellers are making me nervous. We had a late, lame, super-short summer last year that ended abruptly on the first of September. I can’t deal with that 2 years in a row. You have my condolences and I wish you a beautiful fall and mild winter.
Finishing out my run through the Zoologist sample set, I’m wearing Civet today. This is seriously good stuff, maybe my favorite of the bunch.
I’m wearing Civet too, so good! Tuberose usually hates me but this is a great blend.
Scent o’ the Day is Eau des Merveilles because it rhymes.
Let’s have a wonderful day, NST, and a great-smelling February.
If you need comfort regarding the size of your fragrance collection, please enjoy some thoughts on another type of stash:

Knitting! How many unfinished knitting projects do I have lying around right now? Oh, dear, do not get me started.
A partially knit sweater is one of my least favorite things. Ugh. I gave up on big projects a few years ago.
My favorite knits for TV nights are small things for babies and kids. Two movies = a hat, 3 movies = a baby sweater, 4 movies = a baby blanket.
Hello, all. I’m late today, because I have been battling with a mis-behaving website. I want to buy some underwear, and you’d think they’d want to take my money, but do you think I can get to the checkout? I cannot! Beastly botheration! And in my distracted frustration, I’ve just absent-mindedly sprayed myself with En Passant for what I realise is the second time. I smell like a whole lilac tree in full flower, but there are far worse things to smell of, so that’s all right. Also, I’m scurrilously skiving off work today. I’m not sick, but I do seem to be exhausted, and I seem to be trembly and even a bit weepy, which is deeply peculiar. I can’t remember the last time I had nerves speaking to a group of people, yet yesterday, when all I had to do was adddress my colleagues, for goodness sake, my heart thumped and my hands shook. Weird! So I might yet have a third go at EP during the day….be well and stay beautifully fragrant, NST. How we enhance the world, no?
You smell incredible. Like three year’s worth of spring in one day!
Sorry about the underwear hassle. How ridiculous. Hope you feel better soon!
Breathe in, out, relax… Everything will be good. Maybe you weren’t supposed to get that underwear? Is the Universe trying to tell you something?
It does sound like a bit of exhaustion, so take extra good care of yourself and re-charge as much as you can. Just make sure to go easy on caffeine, since it can cause palpitations and jitters, etc. ????
In a vetiver mood today so Im wearing Fat Electritian and enjoying it immensely.
Im taking my first real vacation in 6 years; Mr Dilettante and I will be visiting the Florida keys for a week Im and pondering what scents to bring. I should really be focused on work right now though.
Oh, lucky you!
SOTD is D.S. & Durgo “Pale grey mountain, small black lake”.
Top: oak moss, water notes;
Mid: heather, water pepper, violet, blackberry and beech;
Base: water notes and pigweed.
This scent reminds me of the West of Ireland where I grew up in a landscape very similar to the inspiration of this perfume. Google ‘Connemara landscape’ and you will see the grey or mauve mountains, black lakes, orange and brown grass and white sky. (The photos of blue skies are, well, not lies exactly but infrequent events). Tourists love it but it makes my skin crawl – I can almost taste the desolation when I look at those views.
I just did. I’d be one of those annoying, doting tourists, Koenigsburg. I think it’s very beautiful and now I hope some day to visit there.
My home region, Northland (Te Tai Tokerau) has two personalities. The east coast is all pretty bays with soft sand and blue water, and in summer, pohutukawa lean out and drip scarlet flowers into the air. The west coast is wilder: long, long beaches in brown and grey, windy and –at least when I was young–lonely. I prefer the west coast. Your Connemara puts me in mind of the spirit of the west coast of home.
I only appreciate desolation in books or films. The real thing, not so much. You would probably like the way that rhododendrons, fuschias and montbretia (crocosmia) grow wild, as the Gulf Stream keeps coastal areas above freezing in Winter.
A very distinctive (but disappearing) smell in the West of Ireland is a turf fire. One of those smells that can make you happy and wistful at the same time. To sit in an old-fashioned house with a mechanical wall clock tick-tocking away, and the warmth of a turf fire glowing and sighing gently to itself, is to step outside of Time.
Ten years ago or so, TOMK and I went island hopping in Cabo Verde. We drove down the East coast of Santiago island, which is a serrated series of headlands and bays. Out on the headlands was uncannily like Connemara, but then the road would come back into the inlets where there were bananas & mangoes and beaches of black sand, all of which are ‘wrong’. Very strange juxtaposition for us! :^)
I love this perfume and pictures of the landscape are beautiful, but I can also feel the desolation in the photographs and could never imagine happily live in that terrain. Frankly, if I’m far from an ocean, I feel landlocked and slightly panicked, even if I can’t see it in any regular way. It’s the air and the sky I guess. But of course others rightly find the ocean terrifying.
But no, how silly of me. Of course Connemara is practically in the ocean. So perhaps I’d love it there! I love Cornwall, which could be seen as desolate and yet to me is beautiful. Yet would I want to live there? The sad truth is I need a *city* near the ocean.
West of Ireland is quite similar to Cornwall, although with (even) worse weather. The coast road near Letterfrack runs along causeways and islands, half in and half out of the sea. If I were a millionaire that’s where I’d have a Summer cottage. Intolerable to live there full time as the damp and drear and isolation would get to me.
I miss the sea – where I live in England is very nearly as far from the sea as it’s possible to get. And being by the sea is a part of the charm of Malaga. Although if you wanted a big city, Barcelona might be better. :^)
I’m wearing Rose 31 today. Rose perfumes and I have a complicated relationship, because I worked in rose greenhouses for so long. I like this one a lot however – it smells like an abstract rose. Possibly in a sauna.
I love this one. You smell great!
I love this one, and will be wearing it soon: it’s one of the rose perfumes I plan to wear during this month for the Month of Roses project.
You smell fabulous!
Whoops, my brain read “31 Rue Cambon” there. Sheesh! I haven’t actually sniffed Rose 31 before, but I’m sure it’s great! ????
SOTD is Bois de Paradis. Perfect for this chilly morning.
I like this perfume but I wish they had something like a travel spray or a mini bottle: I’d love to wear it from time to time but I just don’t need a large bottle of that scent.
I agree – it’s not super versatile, but sometimes it just feels right.
At a nursing conference today so wearing low key Noa by Cacharel. Smells like spring, I love the initial herb-y blast.
You smell lovely! That’s a long time favorite of mine.
SOTD is Boy Chanel. My sample arrived last week and I enjoyed it over the weekend as well. My verdict is that it is really nice, but fades too quickly for me to justify that price.
I feel the same way about Boy and it’s a shame. It’s lovely while it lasts.
It had to be Samsara today.
yum
One of my few and favourite combos, Ancient Resins oil with a couple of (decant-sized) spritzes of Dries van Noten. I probably have to get a FB of Ancient Resins again, but I can probably coast on my decant for the other…
Ancient Resins is on my permanent replace every time list!
this is a great body oil..not to mention its nice on the skin.
Have you tried Taur’s body oils? They are also very good
I need to replace my Ancient Resins soon too, and I need to try that combo!
Love Ancient Resins.
I woke up this morning with a headache, which I’m finding hard not to take as an omen for a subpar month ahead.
However, I feel better now and am enjoying sniffing the powdery beauty of L’Heure Bleue. Guerlain to the rescue!
Ouch, sorry about the sore head. It will be better soon because “Guerlain to the rescue!” I want that phrase on a t-shirt.
I had a headache last night and reached for Après L’Ondée. Great minds and all that.
That would make a great t-shirt, wouldn’t it? Hope your head’s recovered, too. Great minds, indeed! ????
Today I am wearing an old staple…Prada Infusion d’ Iris EDP.
Very pretty!
You smell great! I’ve been using this perfume for years – and I still like it a lot.
Jacomo Silences … bought blind after I kept reading about it, so I consider it a lemming
Heh, I’ve had Silences in my online shopping cart more than once but never made the leap.
You smell fab.
Enjoyed a morning with jasmine tea which made me crave Jour d’Hermès Gardénia, which for me falls into the “charming” perfume category. Got dressed and decanted some K de Krizia, which I’m wearing now. Gorgeous stuff. I should wear it more often.
My H got home early from work and wanted to be scented (a very rare request.) I gave him some Aramis Calligraphy Rose to try and it smells freaking gorgeous on him. It doesn’t work on me and was also too masculine for my tastes. There are probably lots of things I pass on that would wear better on him if he were up to it.
Happy hump day, all!
K de Krizia is gorgeous. One of my true perfume loves.
I just picked a scent for the day at 4:00 pm PST. Diptyque’s Eau Duelle edt. Definitely not “for me”–I smell like a boozy ice cream sundae!
The little Cafe in the small town in Northern Wyoming that was the closest outpost of civilization to my family ranch was run by Basque people. They served a sundae of vanilla ice cream with heavy sweet port wine for a sauce, which according to the internet, is a Basque thing. I always thought it was a Wyoming thing. It was a special treat for my sibs and me. Boozy ice cream sundae sounds great!
I wore Sultan Pasha’s Pure Incense again today. My little sample is pretty empty at this point and I’m trying to resist a “huge” (3ml) bottle and talk myself into 1ml. I don’t ever want to run out, though. It’s probably the coziest scent I have ever smelled. I think it’s the copal, which smells a tiny bit like diesel exhaust and reminds me of my childhood.
