Tuesday scent of the day 1/24

Posted by Robin on 24 January 2017 345 Comments

Doctor Who Tardis Ceramic Teapot

It's Tuesday, and it's National Peanut Butter Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Diptyque Kimonanthe. Tea at the moment: Baozhong Winter Bouquet, from Tea Trekker.

Reminder: 1/27 will be Sci-Fi Friday — wear a fragrance that transports you to some alternative futuristic scenario, or that matches a favorite Sci-Fi novel or movie. Suggested by Solanace, who mentioned Strange Invisible Perfumes Fire and Cream as a cologne a cyborg might enjoy wearing.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Doctor Who Tardis Ceramic Teapot is $24.99 at Amazon.

SOTD is Péché Cardinale, the trashiest of the MDCI’s and quite fun. Tea is my lovely chestnut oolong.

Going on with Sci-Fi week wearing a favorite, the incredible Rochas Femme to channel Julia Forman from Michael Crichton’s Prey. Fierce, smart, vicious, wicked but warm deep inside, under all those layers of evil.

After seeing some comments about the exclusifs yesterday I decided to dig out my samples. I adore No 22, so I put the EDT on one arm, a dab of the perfume I have from the coffret (from the 90’s) and a dab of the new formulation (EDP) and will do a comparison.

Drinking homemade chai tea ( thank you to my little ones Grandpa) with a little bit of almond milk. I am skipping the sugar this morning.

Another gray day here, and the rain. No 22 will keep me uplifted.

I am not sure if this makes sense because I am no expert, but the EDT has more incense then florals that show up on my skin, which is lovely! The new formulation I just get floral, without the small amount of incense note.

Interesting. I actually don’t detect any incense in either version, but will give a re-sniff later. I’m looking forward to also sampling a vintage EDC courtesy of an NSTer and am very curious about that one.

Switched to almond butter some years ago, and my current obsession is Manna Butter roasted nut medley: almond, cashew, hazelnut & walnut–yum. It’s niche nut butter!
Speaking of niche, it’s come a long (mainstream) way, baby: yesterday’s Nordstrom email promoting Valentine’s Day had a prominent photo of Kilian, Le Labo and Malle.
SOTD still up in the air–not typical winter around here, causing some indecisiveness.

Well, it looks like Estee Louder wants to get some return on their investments, so the jury is still out there on either it’s mainstream going niche or vice versa.

That nut butter sounds delicious. Where do you buy it? I switched away from peanut butter to other nuts when I finally accepted that I have a hard time digesting peanuts. Thus far my fave is Trader Joe’s crunchy almond butter, but that Manna Butter sounds brilliant.

Vitacost has a few of their flavors, but not the Nut Medley, alas. It’s full price at Whole Foods, and I believe Manna Butter has an on-line store too.

This morning I’m trying out Andrea Maack’s Coal. It’s weird and has a gasoline-y aura but I love it! There’s a lot of juniper in there. Might even qualify as a sci-fi scent for someone to wear in, say, Blade Runner–even the Rutger Hauer android!

I love them too, lillyjo! They’re incredibly easy to make. Just buy raw peanuts in the shell, dump them into a big pot and add water and salt. Bring to a boil and then lower the heat to low medium and let them cook until you’re happy with the results. It may take hours depending upon how fresh the peanuts are. I am always amazed at how how much salt I have to use. Once they’re done, you can store them in the fridge in the liquid you cooked them in.

TBH, I am not certain – a too-sharpish note is now hanging around, but I did not smell it last time. At the moment, I am a decided MEH, but 2 weeks ago, I loved it.
I think further research will be required.

It’s still rainy and cold out, but at least it’s not as windy as it was yesterday, so that’s a plus.
Feeling cozy today in a very big black sweater with an enormous cowl neck. It’s almost more like a ginormous sweatshirt, but the fabric is a bit fuzzy. The cowl is layered with black and grey and it’s so big that fully extended it covers my entire head and even has its own drawstring. The sleeves are huge and dolman style. My husband calls this my flying squirrel sweater. It keeps me very warm. I sprayed the inside of it with a generous dose of Flame of Gold by Orlov. I can hide in my huge cowl and smell my perfume all day.

Thanks for the ‘Fake News’ link, it sounds intriguing. I have Nasty Woman, wore it last weekend. On me, It’s sweet, syruppy fig and deep, earthy patchouli, definitely dark and moody, one of those ‘little dab’ll do ya’ scents. Nything more could be suffocating, and I’d only wear it in cool/cold weather.

Ari, thanks again for the wonderful book reading with Alyssa Harad. I can’t wait for the book she’s working on about the surrealist sculptor. What a treat to get a preview of your perfume, too. It’s good to have at least one new perfume to truly look forward to this year!

I’ve only tried one BPAL, but for $24 (which goes to Emily’s List and Planned Parenthood, no less!), I might just take the Nasty Woman plunge!

Alyssa is a wonderful story teller, and I think she could even do stand up comedy if she ever gets bored with writing.

Coromandel today. Nothing SciFi about it (to me at least), chosen instead for it’s warm snuggliness.

My stupid cat began yowling at 4am this morning and would NOT STOP no matter what. Checked everything – food, water, litter, etc. but to no avail. She just had some unknown bug up her you-know-what and nothing could make her happy. Apparently this is something older cats do. A sign of kitty senility. Anyone else experienced this behavior? Did anything help?

We had an old cat thst started doing that when she turned about 16. Turned out she was stone deaf and also had elevated thyroid levels. The meds didn’t really help with the yowling. The only thing that quieted her was getting up and petting her-at 3am. Actually, I think we tried some antidepressant, Elavil or something, which mellowed her out for a bit. My memory is fuzzy.

We have started putting Hoshi in his thundershirt every night before bed, which helps. He also seems to want us to go to bed at exactly the same time every night or he gets agitated, and that isn’t always possible. And I swear this cat doesn’t say “Meow”, he says “Mom!”.

Maybe older cats do this to make sure you are still there?
I have a jerk of a cat (lovable, but still a total jerk) who is only 3 years old and he does it just to annoy us, seriously. Then I have a totally Needy McNeediness Needs ALL the Attention MEOW! She’s even younger but yowls from the comfort of whatever place she’s nestled in because she demands people come to her for attention.
Last night I was reading in bed with her curled up and when I left to go make lunch for today she was yowling her little head off as if she was being tortured upstairs – all just because she didn’t like that I left the bed.

I think some cats just do it to see if they can get you to come to them, irregardless of the age. When they want their pets/attention they will be as disruptive as possible.

One of our cats is about 3, and a few times when she’s been “in trouble” (e.g. stuck to a scratching post, clinging on to some shirts in the closet and unable to get down, etc.), she lets out the most heartbreaking siren-cry of terror and despair. Now sometimes she does it at night just to wake us up so she can say hi. :) / :(

Morning, all. Can’t sleep-it’s 3.30 a.m., and Dakkie and me, we’re drinking tea and watching the stars move. There are worse things to do on a sleepless night. I smell of the shifting memory of 31RC, which I wore to dinner last night. It’s so haunting and lovely at this hour that I think I’ll wear it tomorrow –today, that is– as well.

Today is V-day–my student’s viva. She’ll be absolutely fine, as long as she remembers to speak in English first, and even if she doesn’t, it will still be all right. I’m taking my team, my student and the examiners to lunch afterwards, and I’ve arranged for a huge bouquet to be delivered to her at the restaurant, all in vibrant colours. She’ll look like a mobile psychedelic duck-blind on her way home! I remembered that one of the examiners once ate about six peanut brownies that I made for a funeral we both attended, so I’ve made a batch to give her, afterwards of course. I’ve sorted out a Sensible Outfit and my most severe glasses–they perch on the end of my nose so I can peer over them, and they actually manage to make me look intelligent. I’ve worked out the likely questions and put my student through a rehearsal, so really, there’s nothing left to do., so why oh why can’t I sleep?

The curse of the planner. I am blessed with generally sleeping well, but, as simplistic as it may sound, when I do have trouble sleeping, I try to focus on how comfortable it feels lying in bed and that often works. Of course, have to make sure bladder is empty and a sip of water for dry mouth, nose blown, etc.!

Check all of those things, plus, Dakkie’s on my feet. It’s probably not worth trying now-it’s getting on towards five, when I normally get up anyway. I’ll stay on my feet today running on pure adrenaline, and pass out about 8o’clock tonight. It’s a happy day, and I will smell fabulous. Of course, no one else appreciate it, but I will!

Stopped in Bloomies yesterday and tried some of the new scents out there. I thought Prada’s Infusion d’Amande was just delightful and now I can’t get almond out of my head. I got a small sample and put some on this morning but sadly it lasts all of 5 minutes. It is crazy fleeting!

Any recommendations for soft, floral almond scents? Not sweet and not too almond-y either.

COTW: Salt & pepper, sugar & spice galettes — five star!
These belong in a french bakery if I do say so myself.

      1) Do they give samples at Bloomies?!

      2) Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia. It’s a bit sweet for me, though. Have you ever tried FM L’Eau d’Hiver?

3)Those sound delicious! Were they labor intensive? I’d love that recipe.

        1) Of course they don’t!
Ok, full confession. I did a Hajusurri and whipped out my own 3ml spray vial and made a sample. No one was there to help me anyway, so it was easy. It is a rarity to get samples at Bloomies.

        2. L’Eau d’Hiver is not my thing. Almond is different than heliotrope, I think, and this is why it doesn’t work for me?
The Mandorlo di Sicilia I want to try. That’s come up in my research.

        3. Such an easy cookie. I’ll email you the recipe — well worth having in any cookie lovers collection! My colleagues cannot stop eating them and it’s not even 12noon.

Most Bloomingdales don’t from what I’ve read. Or they are jerks about it like my experience. I asked about a sample that was seriously considering to buy and the SA glared at me and then threw the sample at me from across the counter, turned around and acted like I wasn’t there. I happily thanked her and then told her she’s just ensured I’d never purchase perfume from their store EVER.

In all the years I’ve been interested in perfumes, I haven’t got a single sample from Bloomingdales. And, to think of it, I’ve never bought a single perfume from them (though I bought more than once from Nordstrom, Newman Marcus and even Macy’s – even though the latter isn’t great on samples either).

I really like Montale Amandes Orientales, but that’s because it smells like almond extract (that’s exactly what I wanted). Add to your list or cross it off, depending on how that idea strikes you. :)

Yeah, the almond extract type of scent is a bit too much for what I’m looking for. The Prada is soft & floral with almond added. Not sweet at all. So frustrating that it doesn’t last!

I have been somewhat disappointed in Bloomies service. They used to have knowledgable sales people that could advice you on both colors and fragrances (and apparel). In the last 10 years it has gone downhill – sales people truly have no clue about a product (it is sad when a consumer has to educate a sales person about a brand they are selling), their fragrance selection did improve in the last few years, but not the expertise of people selling it – they truly have no idea what they are selling. I had the most hilarious experience – I walked into Bloomies (after not being there for 5 years), and decided to check out their Bond no 9 Middle Eastern collection. I asked about the difference between the bottles, and the person working there proudly produced her piece of paper and read the notes for each of the 3 bottles. By the third bottle I forgot what she said about the first. When asked to summarize what she just read that lady proceeded reading it to me again. Then she followed me around mentally measuring the amount of spray placed on paper and skin. I have been impressed with Nordstrom (they really invested into training their people selling Le Labo for example). However the best was Neimans – I asked for a sample and this lady produces a little bottle and proceeds to place content into it with a dropper. Than she says to me ‘Oh, I do not have a lid for it, so you would have to carry it upright’. Luckily someone at a different counter had a proper bottle with a lid they let me pour content into – otherwise getting this little sample home would be a challenge :)

That sounds like Bloomies. At the Chanel Exclusives counter I asked the SA there if the bottles were the new EDPs and she gave me the deer in headlight look and then told me “these are the Exclusives” with a bit of attitude. I explained that the EDT is gone and the EDP is out and after checking with her colleague she confirmed that yes, they are the EDP.
I was really surprised that something so basic as this she didn’t know about.
I agree that Neimans (and Bergdorf) have well trained SAs and they really are passionate about their brands.

ALERT: If you are a Chuao chocolate lover and live in an area that has CVS drugstores, you may want to look for discounted Chuao bars in the chocolate section (usually on the end of an aisle). I think CVS must be getting overstock. I’ve been seeing discounted Lindt bars from time to time over the last year.

Thierry Mugler’s characteristically futuristic Les Exceptions line would go well with sci fi. My favorites are Oriental Express, Supra Floral, and Over the Musk. S-perfumes/Lab on Fire would, too.

In the spring, the ducks land in the pool and torment our sweet little dog. She runs laps around the pool, while they just swim from one end to the other, quacking at her the whole time. She doesn’t like getting in the pool, but she’s frantic to get them. ????

I am wearing Beige and pearls because it was my library’s turn to be audited this morning by the head librarian for our Board. It turned out to be no big deal and she said lots of good things about me and my library, but she didn’t say I smelled nice which I would have thought was the most obvious.

I said the very same thing to the Chanel SA. I am not a beige person. She said it was named that because it is so important in Chanel clothing and makes white look whiter and black look blacker.

Yes I have, and this is one where I can’t see any real difference. The edp might be microscopically less sharp, but it would depend on the day, and I don’t find any difference in village or longevity.

That teapot covers all the bases and it’s super cute to boot. I’m currently drinking CS Peppermint Tea, which is probably K-Mart tea to most tea connoisseurs. It fits the beautiful bright cool day we are having in the swamps today and I’m off to make the most of it by going out to work on my van project.

I’m also wearing Queen, because why not?? It’s a great perfume for a day like today (or any day really). I will attach T-Rex to the hitch via her long line because she likes to jump in and out of the van, offer her opinion, and generally help the process along by getting in the way ;-)

Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

Testing 1 2 3… NV’s Rahele. From the dinky dauber I get a soft rose and apricot complicated by other “things.” I can’t tell if it is simply because I haven’t a clue what osmanthus smells like, or if my nose is broken, but I am having trouble pinning this one down. For folks who love NV’s other fragrances in all their saffron (and some say swampy) glory, and I am one of them, this one is different. More delicate, more “French,” and not at all va va voom. As it dries down, the rose calms and almost disappears altogether, and some violet and leather, maybe even iris emerges, and faint spices. I get a teensy ivory soap vibe too. I am enjoying this, but feel no compunction to figure out which of I my credit cards still has credit…I will definitely try to test this sprayed at some point however. If you like the idea of NV’s remixes but recoiled from the WHAM of the scents (I can’t tell myself, but I bet the sillage is at the lower end of the scale, especially compared to other NV’s) you might want to try this one.

The apricot fades, like the rose, into something drier, leather-like–almost Guerlainesque–but that is after an hour or so.

I just reread my sentence above and imagined dozens of people who have tried this scent saying, “Apricot? Rose? Really? I didn’t get that!” So it will be interesting to find out what notes other folks notice.

Note to self: Figure out what osmanthus smells like!

I have a jar of dried osmanthus, and to my nose, it smells just like dried apricots, but with a slight bitter edge.

Just the other day I saw osmanthus trees for sale at a grocery store not far from my house. Took a second to realize what they were because they were labeled “sweet olive” or something like that. Kind of thinking about going back and getting one.

I must have that teapot although it looks more decorative than functional.

    SOTD = Aftelier Bergamoss EDP

The inspiration is an ad plastered on the walls at Grand Central Terminal for The Magicians (SyFy channel). I think the poster should be R-rated but I tend to be prudish. You can google it and judge for yourself. The image is of a naked horned woman with butterflies and vegetation covering strategic spots but doesn’t leave much to the imagination.

Last night, it took me 4.5 hours to get home with almost 4 of the hours stuck inside a train. Back to normal again today but what a nightmare.

This is too funny! I do have a back up power thing for my phone but no emergency back-up perfume (chances are, if I have one, it’s guaranteed to leak and the baggie will have somehow acquired a hole). I oversprayed (oh yes) Bvlgari Black (oh yes) and it sustained me through the equivalent of a 16 hour workday (oh no).

Black is amazing. I haven’t worked up the courage to wear it, but I enjoy smelling it from the bottle and on other people.

There’s a slightly decrepit shopping mall near me. It has a store with a neglected perfume counter that has many testers including a few discontinued scents. There was a tester of Black, but it was gone the last time I was there. I may have to get a bottle (for science!).

The OO Lil you gave me was a contender for Friday. I sniffed it last night and it is truly the scent of some other universe. Not sure I could wear it for more than 5 minutes, though.

I happened upon this wonderful scent description in a NZ missionary’s diary yesterday at the museum library…it’s 1849 and he is walking from Tauranga to Auckland when he stumbles across an abandoned European house: We saw the furze in full bloom perfuming the wilderness with its fragrance; the sweet briar covered with bright red hips spreading all over the ground, as well as the evening primrose. On entering the garden the strawberries had spread themselves in one direction and formed large shapeless tufts: the woodbine also growing into a large bush; the N.S.W mimosa was of a very large size and just in bud; here was a bed of wild asparagas, there one of flowers.

So…that’s my imaginary perfume of the day! Have not found one jot of further information about the Grand Maori Perfume…but will keep on searching. Have a great day everyone.

Regarding the Freebiemeet, I have noticed that there are some people who only pop up during Freebiemeets, don’t or have never offered freebies but swoop in on the good stuff. This deprives regular commenters, the group that should benefit from the generosity of NSTers, from “winning” one of the freebies. I realize some people don’t have time to comment but really, we want the community that participates to end up with these.

Any ideas regarding potential change of rules that could alleviate this issue? If you don’t feel it’s an issue, d chime in as well. Thanks!

    • kpaint says:
      24 January 2017 at 4:07 pm

I’ve noticed that, too – and also with swapmeets (one such person swaplifted me and at least one other person that I know of.) An alternative explanation: it may be possible that the names you don’t recognize are frequent readers who don’t feel comfortable commenting? Or don’t have time, or live in a time zone where their comments would never really add to the conversation so they opt not to?

My approach to freebiemeets is to offer up stuff that I really just want to get rid of, and I have no stake whatsoever in whom it goes to. I’m just happy it ends up in someone else’s hands instead of the trash. Swaps I approach differently, and if I feel like things aren’t going to work out, I’ll decline (for which I have been sharply reprimanded, to use a more polite term than the email I received deserves.)

Either way, it’s all an honor system to some extent, so if people are willing to take the risk, that’s up to them, no? Unless you’re suggesting a change to the rules for participation?

I had a couple of really weird emails last swap meet – it was so obvious the other person was not a regular, and I had a hunch they were up to no good. I am actually making it a rule for myself that if I have not seen a person being active on a board, I would not swap with them, no matter how tempting the offer is.

People’s motives aside, I like your approach and do mostly tend to give away my “better” rejects to people I share with more regularly or people I suspect might like something I have. The rest I just want out of my house and I’m willing to ship them off to whomever, usually in one lot so as not to end up spending more than I want to on shipping costs, because although it’s free for the receiver, it’s not for the sender.

I’m looking for possible changes to participation but of course, depending on what it is, it may be difficult to enforce.

The ones I’ve recognized are in my same time zone.

To your point it’s a risk that I take in listing things publicly. They are typically things that I know I won’t have time to explore further. I’ve also listed freebies where I’ve offered to work with newbies and share samples from my own collection.

Just a thought – what if we were to treat a freebie meet a little more like a swap meet: it’s not on the FCFS base with dibs where actually people who do not spend time on reading/writing on other posts have a better chance of catching the offers first, but whoever is interested should contact the owner, and the owner can decide what they want to do – use FCFS rule, choose somebody they want to send their lots to, or to do a draw. Since the owners end up paying for sending FREE stuff to others, why not to trust that they’ll make the right choice? Anyway, the requesters won’t suffer much if the won’t get something for free, and senders will feel better. And once the item is gone, the owner will announce it.
As a more generic alternative, we could do multiple public “dibs” in comments, and each owner will run the selection (any way they see fit) and announce the winner who will contact the owner in email.

Well, we can still keep the rule just with the change that you can bid only on two (or maybe a higher number since it’s not given) items. But, as I said, it’s just an idea. It’s your house :)

          • Robin says:
            24 January 2017 at 8:32 pm

Right, but if I can’t see who is asking for what, I have no idea what the number is, you see? Plus, if someone has to ask for something and then wait to see if they are going to get it, they will miss out on other things. So it’s hard to see how it would work in practice.

What I would really hate to see is someone who thinks they are a regular get turned down. Then it starts to feel like a popularity contest.

          • kpaint says:
            25 January 2017 at 4:55 pm

In full agreement about this system going sideways. I wouldn’t want to have to choose the most “deserving” recipient, nor be declined because I wasn’t.

      • jjlook says:

This year I didn’t even attempt the freebie meet, as I am on the West coast, and was marching about Saturday morning/day. I knew that stuff would be snapped up by the early people. But I love the swap meet system, which is less FCFS, and more “let’s make a deal.” ;-)
But what about a simple rule that you have to be a “regular” (i.e. at least 4x a month poster) to qualify for freebiemeet?

Occurs to me that it might make more sense for people to put that qualification in the actual comment — just say I would prefer to give my items to a regular commenter. That way people would be more likely to see it. Any thoughts, anyone?

This isn’t about the nature of who participates, but one thing I’ve thought of was maybe putting somewhere in the rules that the owner reserves the right to ask to be compensated for shipping costs? It can cost like $6-10 with box etc. just for a bottle. I know that nothing says one can’t ask, but it may make it less uncomfortable for people to ask if it’s spelled out in the rules and more people might participate or offer more items if spending their own $ isn’t an issue. I know that that partly inhibits me personally from posting full bottles, especially if it’s 100ml and I’m a bit sheepish about asking for people to pay for shipping, especially if no one else is asking.

PayPal Multi-Order Shipping does not ask the question. Recently, I sent an international package and arranged for it at the counter. The process included answering a question like ” Are you shipping perfume?” If my package included some, I would have answered yes and will probably be precluded from mailing it.

        • hajusuuri says:
          24 January 2017 at 9:21 pm

I think asking people to defray the cost of shipping makes sense so there is skin in the game! Earlier on, I used to ask for $1 PayPal payment until I figured out how to use the multi-order shipping tool instead of using the shipping button next to the payment.

I was going to make exactly this point. Using USPS ground costs $7 & change minimum from coast-to-coast. IIRC, that’s about double what it was a year ago.

I spent a fortune on shipping during the last swapmeet and will admit I declined to put anything up in the last freebie for that reason.

The downside to this (or maybe it’s an upside?) is that participants would have to be willing to exchange more sensitive personal information and work out financial details. But I guess that could weed out those who are less… dedicated?

I’ve also noticed that people who never comment swoop in for the freebie and swap meets. Not sure what can be done beyond leaving it up to the gifter to simply say no once that person emails them? Of course, the gifter would also have to clarify that their item(s) are still available.

Jokes aside, I was thinking about it over the weekend (and even told my vSO about it :) ). Below in my comment to Robin you can see results of that (over?)thinking.
Even though I was curious to see what people would offer, I knew that I wouldn’t feel comfortable calling dibs since I do not think I’m active enough in the community. On the other hand, as much as I enjoy sharing with people I know (I mean, virtually), I do not see a compelling reason to spend time and money on sending anything to somebody I do not know just because they were faster in hitting the Reply link.

What if the giver had the option to request reimbursement for postage when they post freebie items? That might cause people to think twice before calling dibs.

I would be happy to pay postage in exchange for someone’s unwanted items plus the significant time and effort they take to mail them. And I would hesitate to call dibs if I didn’t recognize the name of the giver.

Heh, great minds love perfume. :)

I agree that setting expectations for shipping costs ahead of time could make things more comfortable.

Very early in my perfumed adventures I offended someone when I offered to pay postage. (It was not part of an NST freebie meet.) Then I was hesitant to ask the same question of anyone else. Now looking back I can see that was extremely silly on my part. I guess I thought I had violated some unspoken perfumista rule.

I have loved sending out freebies (I hate to see something unloved sitting around gathering dust), but sometimes I have hesitated to offer because of the potential cost of postage, so I opted to give things away to people I see in person. And I made some fragrant friends in the process.

I agree with you, but unlike on forums like Basenotes for example, there is no post count displayed, so it’s hard to set a rule like ” only those with x number of posts can participate.” For me, I would prefer to just swap with known NSTers and would only offer something as a freebie if I truly just want to be rid of it.

Hiya, hajusuuri, I agree that mailing things out can be a big fragrant boost for someone who has less/different access. I’ve been on the receiving end and felt blessed by the perfumed powers that be when I get to try new things I would not find easily on my own. At the same time I’ve found many people IRL who welcome a bit of a perfumed surprise or something new to sniff. Best of both worlds I guess.

And you’ve officially broken the NST internet with this thread. :) :) :)

I like it, but there is an “aquatic” note or something that was kind of annoying me earlier. It was like one material was jumping up and down and going “hey, look at me!!”. I like the drydown, though. It is a very outdoorsy kind of scent.

Tested Parfum d’Empire Equistrius and Tabac Tabou earlier, both of which made me feel like my nose isn’t quite sophisticated enough to fully enjoy them (or maybe like they require a more intellectual than a gut/emotional response?) Anyway, will spend more time with them eventually.

It seems like a good day for Au Coeur du Desért, so may put that on later. I am in full agreement with everyone else who is worn out by and tired of miserable weather. I’m pretty sure we have set some new records for consecutive days of record-setting lows where I live. Enough already, geez.

Am enjoying my 3rd cup of Upton Thé Mélange Russe, which is really nice. Is in the earl grey category, which isn’t usually my thing, but the tea itself is very light with no astrigency and the citrus is a soft, sweet, lemon. It also seems to have quite a bit less caffeine than most black teas, evidenced by the fact that I’ve had 3 cups and am not having a massive anxiety attack. *knock on wood*

Are you sure you sample wasn’t off? I remember enjoying Equistrius enough to buy a small decant. But halfway through it one day I realized that it turned and I really disliked what it became.

Extra cranky today in Dom by Rosarium. Fragrance is not making me cranky, but everything else is.

I joined you in wearing Kimonanthe today, Robin. I wasn’t sure how I felt about it when my decant arrived, but now I think I do like it. It doesn’t blow me away, and at first it reminded me of the style of some Kenzo perfumes (Amour maybe or one of its flankers). But I am enjoying it today and finding it intriguing. It’s a good workday scent.

      Hey twin!

I do like it, I just don’t love it to the point where I care if I have a bottle or not. But I will definitely give it another try or two.

I’m in Wood Pudding today AKA Givenchy Organza Indecence. (Is 1999 considered vintage yet? Yikes, my bottle is nearly 18 years old!)

    I need that tea pot.
SOTD is SL Boxeuses. I used to love it, then it started to rub me the wrong way. But every once in a while it is perfect, and today is one of those.
I havent had time to hang around here much lately so I’ll have to start sci fi scents tomorrow!

Robin, thanks for posting that teapot today… it is going to be a Christmas gift for someone on my list this year!

Weather of the day: grey, misty/rainy. and gloomy. Not bad temp wise, though, so I ought to appreciate that while it lasts. Winter is lurking around here somewhere.

SOTD = sampling from the horde again, with Gucci No. 3. Reminds me of perfume that adults wore when I was growing up. Oddly appropriate for a low-key birthday.

    SotD = whaaaaatever, I just can’t even. :(

Actually I just splashed on a bit of 4711, and now I feel much better. Begone winter blahs!

A few days ago I smelled L’heure Bleue for the first time. I think I love it but will wait to acquire some after I use up most of a bottle of Apres l’Ondee.

I wore Vanille 44 today. Another gross weather day in the hood. Ugh…

Not sure if I’ll be able to come up with anything for Friday. I don’t associate any of my perfumes with ET. ????
