Another week begins. If it helps, it's Pie Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Maria Candida Gentile Barry Lyndon.
Reminder: 1/27 will be Sci-Fi Friday — wear a fragrance that transports you to some alternative futuristic scenario, or that matches a favorite Sci-Fi novel or movie. Suggested by Solanace, who mentioned Strange Invisible Perfumes Fire and Cream as a cologne a cyborg might enjoy wearing.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Lavandula stoechas - Spanish Lavender [cropped] by Ernest McGray, Jr. at flickr; some rights reserved.
Another manic Monday. I am wearing Lyric as a remedy to rain and sleet.
We’re stuck in a loop of sprinter this winter in my area. I hope we aren’t shoveling snow in May as a result.
Loop of sprinter sort of sounds like it might be something fun!
????
You smell fantastic!
SOTD: Signoricci 2 (Nina Ricci). Blustery cloudy day here today in the Midwest.
Not altogether different here. Hoping the wind does not take out my power.
SOTD is my sample of Stephen Jones Wisteria Hysteria for the sci-fi/futuristic theme of this week. I remember Robin posted the commercial for this perfume, and it looked very otherworldly – could be sci-fi, could be fantasy. The bottle design is unusual too. And the scent itself has that metallic note people often associate with futurism. Wisteria is only noticeable during first five minutes, then a clean musk takes over. At that stage the scent is cold and unemotional – something fit for a robot. Now, a couple of hours later, I can only smell the base notes – warm dry resins and spices. Incense and cloves are probably the most prominent notes now. The metallic note is still there, but it is a heated metal by now.
Verdict: interesting. Not and instant love, but I am having fun sampling it.
I really enjoy this in hot weather. It seems thinner in the cold, but still pretty.
Not sure about hot weather (it gets really smoky and spicy on me at some point), but I am pretty sure that a warmer weather would suit it. I’ll try to remember to wear in on a sunny day in April.
Well done. I’m thinking that the first Stephen Jones scent would also work for this week’s challenge.
I was just thinking that, too.
I think that largely it’s because they are both created in collaboration with Comme des Garçons – probably the most futuristic perfume house. My knowledge of CdG scents is limited, but I believe one can do a couple of “futuristic” perfume weeks wearing their scents alone.
It’s rainy and ridiculously windy out. In fact, the wind was bad all night so I slept horribly due to tree branches and things banging against the house.
Sotd: Samsara – really needing something comforting right now. It’s not even that cold out but the damn makes it feel much more chilly and the wind reinforces that.
tea: black coffee.
It is indeed very comforting. Like a soft cloud with rays of sun coming through it.
I don’t mind the clouds, but the wind and rain can be troublesome. It’s more like a soft, warm blanket for me today.
Great tea choice.
Mondays like these call for really strong brews.
you smell like sandalwood bliss to me.
Samsara is such a comforting scent, your making me want to wash of Misia and apply Samsara. Maybe after the shower I will do that. Jealous of your “grand parfum” today
I needed a scent that “felt” like PJs because I want to be back in mine and asleep.
That was meant to say damp!
Sci-Fi Friday!! I HAVE BEEN TRAINING FOR THIS MY WHOLE LIFE. SOTD: Estee Lauder Azuree Soleil, in a desperate attempt to counter four days of drizzling. It’s the sunniest, most cheerful gardenia, and yes, still prefer it to Bronze Goddess.
This made me laugh. I’m very tired this morning and may have a case of the sleepy sillies so the idea of you training for sci-fi perfume day for so long is highly amusing.
LOL! Me too! And it’s nice to smell like a sunny break, isn’t it.
You are so cute 🙂 I look forward to your (and everyone else’s) choice(s)!
Curious about your choice!
misia EDP
I’m eager to know how it compares to the edt. What are your thoughts?
Well, I never owned the EDT version, only sampled. For me, I cannot tell the difference.
It is lovely. Since I am dabbing it doesn’t have much sillage on me..
I’m this close to a blind buy. I love the edt, and I’m hoping the to love the edp even more, as I did with cuir de russie.
I dabbed on some Misia from my swap decant roller ball, and I am really glad that I’ve given it a 4th or 5th try. I really don’t like the opening notes at all, and I see that won’t change b/c I always smell that weird plastic thing that a lot of violets do for me. But if I make myself really ignore them then after about 15 minutes I like it. I do love the creamy base notes. I don’t think I’d ever buy a full bottle at the price it is, but it was cheerful on a dreary day.
I have a decant of the EDT. I didn’t like it much the first time I tried it but have found it is lovely in hot weather. It makes a great bedtime scent.
I wear it to bed, too! ???? I’ve gone through most of a full bottle (2.5oz edt) on bedtime spritzes. I’m hoping the edp will require fewer spritzes to satisfy.
Its lovely, but I don’t smell much. Maybe I should dab more.
SOTD = Tam Dao, a lovely light Sandalwood scentry, to smooth the ragged edges of Monday.
I am doing my bit for social disruption today, by responding, whenever anyone says,”How are you?” with, “OH, the tractor got a flat tire over the weekend, which always puts a crimp in my plans.” Getting a tractor tire reseated on its rim is not a trivial task. Many of the mildly privileged people here in Ann Arbor clearly have no idea what I am talking about. A couple said Bummer and proceeded to tell me a tractor story. I’ve made some new friends!
Yeah, a flat tractor tire is a substantial pain in the fundament, both in terms of rearranged plans and of the bank account. We’re going to have to replace a rear tire on the John Deere 4040, and the initial estimate was $867. OUCH. (The tire’s probably 20 years old, though, so I suppose we got the good out of it.)
Yes, tractor tires need to be thought of as a long term investment. $860/20 years is not so bad if you think of it as $43.00/year instead. This one was a front tire on the 4WD Kubota (which we got when the old non-4WD Oliver just sank into our sticky clay one too many times…), and the place in Manchester that does tractor tires was able to put a tube in and get it reseated on the rim, which was not bent. Now adorable hubby just had to get it put back onto the axle, in the mud. Ugh.
If someone made a perfume that smelled like tractors and wet clay, adorable hubby would wear that in a second!
We do a lot of that “fix the tube” stuff!
Haha! That’s funny. I love experiments in social disruption.
Sorry, not funny that the tractor got a flat tire. Just that you’re sharing woes and frustrations instead of just saying, “Fine, thanks. And you?”
Please tell me you wear perfume on the tractor! I spend about 2 months out of the year in North Idaho and love the John Deere as it gets me away from the parents and does cool stuff. I wear perfume just doing house work alone in the house, I certainly wear it there too. Bummer on tractor repairs. I attempted to get the snow thrower repaired at the parents and was shocked at the price. We were left with using the bucket on the front.
My normal out in the woods perfume is VC&A Bois d’Iris. If I wear anything too floral, I attract bees, and if I wear anything animalic, I attract even more mosquitoes that I normally do. Woody scents with cedar and juniper repel some of the bugs a bit it seems. Tractors are great tools. Hubbie grew up on them and is very skillful. I bumble aroudnd and try to only hit what I am aiming at. 🙂
great, I will keep the bug issue in mind
You smell lovely and your social disruption puts things into perspective. It’s not always easy to just say everything is “fine” and some days pleasantries just won’t cut it.
Ouch. Our old John Deere needs a full set of new tires, which is what is keeping it sitting in the shed. It also needs to be rewired, but that’s a fun job that I would be totally up for if some sucker would just buy the tires…
Yay for smelling great and making new friends with shared interests! Sorry about the flat tired on the tractor though 🙁
I love it – Social Disruption! When someone starts a sentence with “Do you mind if I (blah blah blah)?” they have usually justified what they are about to do that may offend or anger you AND they expect you to say no. Well, let’s just say I’ve surprised some people by answering “Yes, I do mind!”
Siblings! I’m wearing Maria Candida Gentile Sideris for the first time ever and it’s very nice.
I should really make an effort with the SF challenge, though.
Hey sister! I like that one. A bunch of travel sizes from MCG might be my next purchase.
Yes, I’ve been thinking about 15 ml of Hanbury myself…
Please tell me about the wisdom (or lack thereof) of blind-buying travel sizes of MCG while unemployed.
(Writing this out has helped me answer my own question.)
If you still need it, it is not wise to blind buy travel sizes of MCG, or anything else, while unemployed. It’s not all that smart when you’re employed.
I just looked this up and it sounds lovely.
I love Sideris and a bunch of other MCGs. I say go for the Hanbury! I’m always eyeing a 15ml bottle of Burlesque…
I’ve just seen that they do mini sizes as well. But I wonder if these are splash bottles?
I wore Sideris yesterday. It’s a nice scent.
It is, I really like the drydown.
I love this line. Hanbury is one of my favorites.
SICK OF RAIN. The ground is so saturated that when you step on it, water splashes up on your foot like you just stomped on a wet sponge. Plus, it SHOULD HAVE BEEN SNOW. It’s freakin’ JANUARY already. Hmph.
SOTD is Memoir Woman, because a) this lingering grumpy is not being helped by the weather, and b) it just smells good.
Also, if you’ve been pondering a purchase at Teo Cabanel, they’re having a private 40% off sale on several fragrances due to changes in packaging. I think you can only get there from an email, though, so if you’re interested, you can send me a private email to malsnano86 AT the geemale (must stymie those bots that steal email addresses!) and I’ll forward mine to you.
Was curious so checked — anybody can get there:
http://shop.teo-cabanel.com/vente-privee,fr,2,71.cfm
Yay! These do seem like terrific prices.
Oh my, I’m supposed to be on the no-buy, but Alahiiiine… I think I’m about to faint to avoid making that decision.
Memoir is so good and we’ve been having a very dreary winter up here too. Bleh.
I share your sentiments. We love the rain and the full reservoirs but enough is enough!
Today I am trying out Amouage Journey today. I am really trying to finish bottles and decants this year. Good thing right now there is nothing I really want.
How do you like it?
I like it quite a bit. It seems to be a cross of A La Nuit and Hedonist. I probably will review it tonight.
One of my favourites, such a lovely one!
Today ‘Encre Noire’ by Lalique.
Can’t go wrong with Encre Noir!
SOTD is the utterly reliable and so elegant Bottega Veneta. It is one of my go to fragrances and especially nice on a bad weather day.
I plan on resampling that one this week.
BV is a go to fragrance for me too, you smell great! ????
Me three! Perfect, no-brainer scent.
Me four!
Beautiful!
I will have to revisit that one again one day. I was in the mall a few years ago and sprayed this one on. It didn’t really agree with me, so I dismissed it. I love Knot, though. BV gets a lot of love here. I will have to give it another shot.
I am also in the category of people who don’t get BV (yet). I think there was something that reminded me of plum (a problematic note for me), though I haven’t seen it on any list of notes. Maybe one day!
I have been on a sampling spree this month, but today I am under the weather and need something familiar, strong and modern. Hence I am drenched in FM Carnal Flower.
Hope you feel better soon.
You smell wonderful.
Here we are mid 30’s, rain, and a lot of fog. Returning to snow mid week. Wearing Mad Madame today, inspired by, iirc, Gaynor last week. Does anyone have another JHaG they could recommend? I’ve tried the sample pack, but not any of the others.
I don’t know what’s in the sample pack and what you’ve tried. I really dig Citizen Queen, but have used up my decant and somehow not bought another. It’s a slightly-dirtier version of ELDO Putain de Palaces – rose-violet/face powder/leather/musk.
Thanks, I will check it out.
Oooh, I’ll look for this too. I love Putain.
Miss Charming if you enjoy feeling LOVELY, Not a Perfume if you enjoy feeling confused. (I love both!)
I don’t know if I enjoy it, but I’m in a perpetual state of confusion:) now, I have to try Not a Perfume. Thanks!
I’m a fan of Romantina. It’s maybe a bit boring, but it’s purdy (orange flower, honey, musky).
I really like Lady Vengeance. I liked it so much, I purchased a FB of it about a year ago. That was actually my SOTD today. Romantica is nice too. But MM is probably my favorite from that line. I received a sample of it a couple of weeks ago and really liked it. All three of these JHAG’s are nice “rose” scents.
Rainy, cold and super windy. I am in the dentist office for check up and cleaning. Wearing Lalique de Parfume (thanks to Elisa P). Beautiful, comforting and very easy to wear. Perfect for a very busy day like today.
You smell great! Boo to the weather today ????
Love that one. You smell great!
And we both have you to thsnk for this one????
Thanks!
I’m getting reacquainted with my fragrance collection, and today’s treat is Guerlain Insolence. Haven’t worn it in ages, but the candied violets counteract this windy, rainy day so well.
Very pretty! And fun!
So beautiful!
I love Insolence, you smell great!
Wonderful stuff, you’ve chosen my Tuesday scent for me!
Love it too, such a happy scent. You smell fantastic!
Chanel No. 5 L’Eau. This is becoming one of my favorites.
It IS lovely, isn’t it. Very light for me, but I definitely see wearing this in Spring.
It really is lovely, isn’t it? Perfect for a dreary Monday (well its dreary where I am anyway). You smell great!
You smell great!
Thank you!
Pie Day almost negates the fact that it’s Monday. Very breezy and less like summer here, so I busted out my Bandit decant from a swap.
The beginning doesn’t really wow me, but I’ve had it on for about an hour and it’s settling into a very nice scent. I don’t get any skank at all, just a soft understated warm florally kind of effect. Doesn’t knock my socks off, but that ok, it’s quite wearable.
NSTer’s must answer the Call of Pie Day and get a nice slice of thier
Favorite! It’s your duty ????
Deva, I used to wear Bandit in cooler weather and thought it just ok. Then I tried it in steamy hot weather and it was sooo much better! It may seem like it’d smother you to death but the greenness cuts through enough to make it totally wearable. Maybe it’s worth a repeat attempt?
Mmm a slice of warm apple pie does sound good right about now.
Mmmmm, pie….I live in Midwest pie country, large Amish population. Sadly my favorite pie place is closed on Mondays but there are lots of places to find a slice. Peanut butter pie, anyone?
Oh, ahem, sorry I got lost there. Agree with perthgirl that Bandit is better in hot weather. Sexy.
I’ll have a slice of Peanut Butter Pie!
Vintage L’Air de Temps EdT that I found yesterday. Gorgeous and perfectly proportioned, at turns green, spicy, and floral. Sadly it definitely inspired a generation of functional products. Smelling this again makes me think it in some way inspired Jour d’Hermes with its sensual soft-focus blooms.
I love that scent. It’s been one of my mom’s signature fragrances and I will always associate it with her.
It’s my mom’s signature, too ????
Vintage L’air du Temps is one of my favorite fragrances, and I love Jour d’Hermes also.
I loooove Jour! Especially the absolu.
First day back at work today after a lazy week off. My hairdryer died halfway through drying my hair so by the time I hunted high and low for my (pretty useless) travel one and got ready I was somewhat frazzled and indecisive on the perfume front. Went for one of my favourite low-key go-tos with Kelly Caleche edt and it was perfect. Restored all calm and order 🙂
Off to bed now as I have a hairdryer shopping expedition to attend to first thing tomorrow.
I’m glad Kelly Caleche brought you calm and order 🙂
Good luck with the new hair dryer!
I somehow read your sentence as saying “My hairDRESSER died halfway through drying my hair” and I was astounded you could be so casual about it! Whew!
Me too!
LOL! OMG, what a story that would be!
I made the same mistake!
Ugh! Don’t you hate when that happens. My Chi flatiron went out on me a couple of weeks ago as I was getting ready for a doctor’s appointment. Before it completely blew out, it decided to fry a part of my hair. Went to Ulta to get another Chi and was told by the SA that the quality of Chi isn’t the same and they don’t hold up anymore. Well I found another brand that I liked and thought I lucked out when I saw the pricetag was $59. Come to find out, they had the wrong price on the one I fell in love with (it was actually $169). But, since it was their error, they honored the $59 ticket! Yay! And the SA told me that I smelled nice! Can’t remember what I was wearing, but that horrific day turned out so much better. See how scent can change the lives of so many. 🙂
Kelly Caleche is one of the most classy smelling perfumes I can think of. You smelled incredibly put together, frazzle be damned 🙂
Count me among the people who are sick of the clouds and rain. Wearing TF Noir Pour Femme because it always seems outgoing and fun to me, but the effect hasn’t rubbed off on my mood yet. At least I smell good.
It is so overwhelmingly gray here! Blech. I just want some blue sky.
We are having one of those rare blue sky winter days today, after weeks of cloudy and rainy days. I’m wearing Gimel a Break from Smell Bent. Honey and beeswax, yum.
Ha…see my comment just above. I am officially jealous.
I”m trying two scents on two hands today, both by Charente Macerations and recommended to me by a perfume-knowledgeable friend. More accurately, he recommended Asphalt Rainbow which would “blow my mind.” It really didn’t but wow do I love both of these others, Christopher Street (lime, leather, smoke and SPICES–Clove and Cinnamon!), and Eye, Hatshepsut–this one is truly delicious–it’s hard to pin down as I don’t know what several ingredients smell like including blue lotus and kohl I get something buttery with spice and depth and a tiny bit of honey–not so much of the smoke and patchouli listed–but it’s early days yet.
Love Christopher Street. It’s really unique and fun. I haven’t tried the others.
I do love Asphalt Rainbow myself and Eye H is interesting, too. Pretty subtle-I should hook myself up with a sample of that one to give it more skin time.
It’s been a manic Monday! At least I smell good thanks to Cierge de Lune
Good morning!
SOTD: Chance eau Tendre. Perfect for the office, or really anywhere….
My daughter wears that one, and she smells great when she does.
Very pretty! You smell great!
SotD = Hiris
Fragrantica describes Hiris as floral green. Today it’s aromatic with an appealing edge of bitterness. Perfect for a chilly, rainy morning.
That’s a beautiful picture up top. Lavender is one of my favorite essential oils. I put some on my feet this morning. I waft as I walk.
And hurray for pie day. I always stick a slice or two of leftover pie in the freezer during the holidays. Time to thaw a slice of apple pie.
I wish everyone a marvelous Monday. It’s going to be a good week.
Saving holiday pie sounds like an amazing idea, but I am impressed you still have any left! I think I’d eat them all before I got halfway throgh January 🙂
Cold, grey, dreary etc. I went with SHL 777 Kihl de Bahrein which I loved last winter, but suddenly struck me as too sweet this year. But it’s hitting the spot today with its halva/iris powderiness and some plastic doll head(I like that smell).
don’t fly away today
It is pretty windy!! I’ve given up in trying to keep my hair in place.
Horrible weather!
Funny how our noses change from year to year, and sometimes much more often.
Yeah, I’m having trouble with sweet this year. Weird.
You smell amazing. Stay safe on such a windy day!
Thank you!
Manic Monday!
1) Tomorrow is the meeting with my insurance adjuster. Ugh! The upstairs is partially dried out but smelled of mildew, so sprayed down with vinegar and mildew killer, then sprinkled Arm &Hammer baking soda stuff to absorb and vacuum up. It’s warm and dry enough to air the house out, but the leak intrusion still remains, and that must be repaired.
2) Sci Fi Week! Yay! First up, What Would Spock Wear?
Seriously, though, think about it: He’s from a desert planet, but works on a starship. It has to be close to the body (environmental scrubbers on a spaceship will NOT like scents with a lot of projection) spicy yet non offensive (he works with Tellarites). So Spock would wear Comme De Garcons X Monocle Laurel.
I am wearing this today (from decant+ piece of soap from years back) and it’s fresh and lovely, with a lovely spicy, grassy, crisp air. It does not project at all, which makes it great for a starship or being in an Earth bound office.
I think my husband, a huge Trekkie, would approve.
Thank you! 😀
For some reason, I have in mind this: McCoy wearing Florida Water splash (from Georgia, so appropriate) Kirk would discretely wear something like Grey Vetiver, Uhura would have a tiny drop of something floral, like Kai and Sulu would wear something warm and powdery, like Killian’s Back to Black.
Your reasoning is impeccable.
😀 Thank you! I wrote a tiny little story, didn’t I?
Live long and prosper.
😀
So may we all do so!
Wind is crazy out there today! Sounds like a window might bust.
So glad I’m not at work on the 27th floor because on days like this you can feel the building sway and it is not a pleasant feeling.
SOTD: Orchidee Vanille
I live high up and the wind knocked over the chairs on our balcony.
Good grief.
I’m on a very low floor and didn’t feel a thing! Inmade the mistake of taking the first delayed train out of Penn and we are stuck on the local tracks! Journey usually takes 30 minutes or so…it is now 1.5 hours later and we’re not even halfway to my destination. Ugh ugh ugh
I hope you’ve made it home by now and are safe and sound. The wind is ferocious tonight.
Eau des Merveilles today. I needed something bright, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen the sun. This one fits the bill.☀️
I love EdM. The other day I spritzed some on my hubby’s arm without asking. He got irritated at first, but then said hmm that smells good 🙂
Horribly dreary here too today. My little town is east of Lake Michigan and every year we are under what our weatherman calls permacloud, but it’s not so bad when it’s snow rather than fog and rain. Wearing the original Commes des Garcons edp today. Those fiery spices smell so good, especially all the clove, like glowing embers. Perfect for grocery shopping and other mundane errands, ugh.
Permacloud! We are having that this year too.
More rain and wind, I am wearing my orange creamsicle scent Dulcis in Fundo. Stay warm!
Yummy!
Like so many others here I’m tired of the gloomy weather (dark, windy and rainy). To cheer myself up I’m wearing the beautiful Aftel Palimpsest, a fruity floral that somehow also manages to be sophisticated.
Wearing 31 RC EDT today…
They really butchered the EDP on this one…a crime and shame.
Oh, no! I haven’t tried the edp, but my edt decant is dwindling. It’ll be a sad day…
Glad I have about a gallon of the EdT. (Got the big bottle for Christmas one year, and then also have two of the nice official sample bottles that I use for travel.) I will never run out in my lifetime. 😉
Thank you for making me happy about backing up on the EDT.
I’d seen comments elsewhere saying the same thing. Dangit, what were Chanel thinking!? …In any case, you smell wonderful!
was it you that was asking about the chanel crayons, the new lipstick. I tested a few and didn’t find one that I liked. I ended up with the rouge coco lipstick (again)
Tell me more about the 31 RC EDP? How does it compare?
Yes, I am curious about the Chanel crayons and will probably wait for some of the make-up bloggers to do review in-depth and see swatches…kind of like the Consumer Reports for high-end make-up…I feel less guilt if something gets a good review and isn’t easily duped. 😉
The 31 RC EDP smelled like a different perfume to me. I haven’t worn them side by side in all fairness but the EDP was so off-putting when I sniffed it that I had no interest in it. The EDP also smells somewhat sour. Someone else on Basenotes or Fragrantica commented that the EDP was almost unrecognizable and I thought it was an exaggeration but when I finally sniffed it I thought the same thing.
I just found that after trying them, I still love the feel of the rouge coco lipstick. Its hydrating and the color choice looked better on my pale skin.
Oh how disappointing about the 31RC EDP! I wonder if this is the reason why there’s no extrai version yet? It sounds like a higher concentration mangles the juice. I will need to be more judicious with my use, but no hoarding!
You smell lovely. I’m still chagrined that I missed out on a full bottle. The SA was very nice, but she was new and sent No. 18 instead and they were sold out of 31RC everywhere by the time I discovered the error.
Cuir de Russie extrait de parfum. I can barely detect it now, I got up very early this morning and after a long and tiring day it has gone. Beautiful though, I wonder how the new EDP compares to the EDT and extrait. Has anyone tried all three?
About your question yesterday, Austenfan, Brazil tends to be VERY rainy during summer, specially in the Southeast and Bahia – and when it’s not rainy, it’s HOT. I always recommend coming here during our winter, when we have blue skies and mild temps, around 15 C. Also, waterfalls are safe, since there are no abrupt changes in the amount of water coming down.
Thanks, I was thinking afterwards that it would have to depend on whereabouts one is in Brazil.
Read a chilling article on Brazil and some other South-American countries today on the train.
We are doomed, Austenfan.
I only have one scent that I would consider sci-fi-ish, so I’m saving it for Friday. Today I’m trying Lipstick Rose for the first time. The opening smells A LOT like Misia to me, but it quickly becomes sweeter and a bit fruitier – not sure what I think yet.
I’m no sci-fi expert, but I recommend the story collection Her Smoke Rose Up Forever by James Tiptree Jr (Alice Sheldon) for anyone who’s a fan of the genre.
I’m interested to see how your opinion develops. I HATED Lipstick Rose the first time I tried it, even though in general I quite love rose. Then, years later, I got a random sample of it in a package, and tried it again, and now I’m a fan.
I’m a few hours in now, and back to thinking it’s a sweeter Misia. It’s definitely fun – maybe I’ll wind up a fan too!
Getting it asap on my kindle, if I can find it. Thanks.
Ditto.
I hope you both love it – I thought it was amazing! A few of the stories shade into horror as well, particularly “The Screwfly Solution,” which is my favorite of the ones in the collection.
There’s also a biography called James Tiptree Jr: The Double Life of Alice B. Sheldon – I found it fascinating.
My SOTD is SL Iris Silver Mist. A classic, and seems right for a cold-ish day that nonetheless reminds me of spring. We have sun and I heard the birds chirping as I was getting ready, and felt like something spring-like but not too spring-like. A little bit of hope, even though I know I have to get through fearsome February and dreary April still. Rain, rain, rain in this West Coast city, at least usually.
Sun and birds chirping! Glad somebody had that this morning.
No more drought, though, tontemper the misery!
My leading contenders for sci-fi scents are EL Dazzling Silver and SL De Profundis… but they are way too light for this chilly damp weather… just had hail a minute ago. It should be warmer by the end of this week, so who knows.
Been marooned at home (roads blocked by mudslides) since Friday. They say they’ll have a road open later today. Hope so.
Oh, should mention that I added a couple of things to my give-away list on the Freebiemeet late yesterday – Demeter Freesia and Smoky Poppy body butter – free to a good home!
I hope you’re keeping safe (maybe your perfume will help).
Wearing Vero Profumo Rubj. I just got free samples with a LuckyScent order of three Voile D’Extraits and found them a lot weaker than I expected — Rubj is the only one that has any projection in my experience so far. (I also ordered Onda and Kiki). Obviously not the worst thing to happen in the past few days, but a little disappointing. I’ll have to try much heavier application.
That’s useful to know, very Profumo has been on my to try list for a very long time, and Rubj is the one I’m really looking forward to trying. How do they compare to the edp’ sand extra it’s?
The only EDP I have is Rozy, which I find pretty powerful (comparable to say, Cacharel LouLou). But I seem to be in the minority on the VdEs….
Monday, Monday. I’ve been working my way through a handful of Chanel samples (yay!) these past couple of days, and can report that I liked Beige more than I’d expected to, and Cristalle EDT less than I’d expected, the latter being perhaps a bit sweet for my tastes. Today I have Coco on one arm, which I can appreciate but doesn’t at all suit what I’m in the mood for today, and 1932 on the other arm. 1932 also doesn’t quite suit today — its big springtime floralness is out of place on this very cold, sopping wet, sunless day — but I can see myself enjoying it on a warmer and more optimistic day.
Where does one get Chanel samples these days? Direct from generous Chaneliers?
You smell great, even if you’re not in love with them all.
Ajellyfish, if you are in the US, The Perfumed Court has some Chanel. A caveat, though… they will not ship Chanel samples to NY state. eBay is also an option, but prices have shot thru the roof recently.
Morning, all. I am cautiously approaching the beginnings of an unformed hope that we might dally with a temperature that approximates to summer today, but I don’t want to be too bold in a cool green perfume in case it shyly lacks up and leaves again. So, Maharani, I think. Oh goodness, I LOVE this! I suppose it’s an oriental, but to me, it has gourmand elements too, and it fits into my category of “golden” perfumes, along with Fate and a couple of others. I find it gently sensual, a soft, embracing afterglow…..it’s too good to waste on the office, but I should have thought of that earlier! Harrumph!
And on that note, wearing layers of clothes in case that summer temperature decides to retreat, I had better beetle off and face my day. Be well and smell better, NST.
“Golden” is a lovely perfume category! Chamade is golden to my nose, but I’m not sure what else might be among my collection. Fate always reminds me of beignets, which, I suppose, are golden under their powdered sugar. 🙂
Volkamaria from WeinerBlut today. It’s one of those fragrances that smell better on me than when I sniff the sprayer so I don’t wear it often because it doesn’t pass the quick sniff test
SOTD isPatchouli Patch by L`Artisan which is what I imagine that Bruce Dern smelled like in the 1972 Sci-Fi classic “Silent Running” 🙂
Back to work after a long weekend of dreadful weather, so of course the sun is shining now 🙁 So, Le Temps d’une Fete to welcome back the better weather.
You smell wonderful.
Well, I think I’ll have to try to think up an entire sci fi week. (So excited to read everyone’s picks!)
Lolita Lempicka for Blade Runner’s Rachael. She thinks it’s comfy because it resonates with her fake memories of cherry pies and her mom’s signature Angel. Yep, Rachael wears perfume for herself.
Scent twins!
Cool choice!
Wearing good old Ambre d’ merveillles on a bitterly cold and icy day, needless to say I’m feeling warm and cosy. Got a perfume compliment on it from a coworker too!
was it you that asked me about the chanel crayons? If so when I tested I didn’t find anything I liked. Ended up with more lipstick from the coco rouge line.
I wasn’t thinking of doing a sci-fi pairing today, I just wanted to smell Lolita Lempicka on me, but a Blade Runner tie-in, sure!
Waterdragon, we have two species of hummingbird who stay here in winter so I put up a feeder on Saturday to see if I could attract some. There was one at the feeder a few minutes ago.
Have a happy Monday everyone! Eat pie!
Ooooh! I hope I see hummingbirds!
I’ve se n hummingbirds flit around the birdfeeders my sister-in-law had out in her backyard. Their house overlooks the Willamette.
I am wearing Queen by Queen Latifah. It seems a bit sweet today, but only slightly boozy so I topped off one wrist with Demeter Thunderstorm and the other with Demeter Vetiver.
I have that and haven’t worn it in a while. I just might wear it tomorrow. You smell fantastic!
Thank you! It’s quite fun somehow.
Happy Monday Everyone! Late to the party today. I wanted to “smell like a rose” today so that was my “theme” today. I started with my Molton Brown Delicious Rhubarb and Rose shower gel. Then I used some of my Tauer Rose Oil. I topped it all off with JHAG’s Lady Vengeance. All of these, surprisingly, blended so well together.
I hope everyone is having a great start to the beginning of the week! 🙂
Sounds like a rosey beginning for the week!
I made today a Mitsouko Monday.
I’m excited about this week’s sci-if project. I have a few ideas already.
Mitsouko is lovely!
It really is!
I knew you would be excited! Just now, I settled on my choice for Friday; I just have to get hink of a good back story!
Yeah, I guess I’m predictable that way! There’s actually a lot of sci-if that I really dislike, but a lot of the entertainment I like is sci-fi. Im looking forward to seeing your choice for Friday.
The sinus crud that’s been afflicting people around my office finally took hold of me yesterday, so today I’m sniffly and sneezy in Tom Ford Violet Blonde. I can smell it if I hold my wrist right up to my nose.
So sorry you got bitten by the bug. It’s making its rounds. I hope you feel better soon. Violet Blonde is a TF that I never got a chance to try. Bet you smell really good, though.
Hope you feel better SheriG!
Boo and hiss on the office crud! I hope you feel better sooner rather than later.
Boo and hiss on the office crud! I hope you feel better sooner rather than later.
Whoops! How did this get posted twice???
I thought maybe you knew of some magic that is invoked by posting twice. Or were just being emphatic. 🙂
Feel better soon!
SOTD is “Venetian Blue” by The Merchant of Venice.
Top: apple, bergamot and lemon;
Mid: black pepper, birch and patchouli;
Base: moss, ambergris and musk.
Dear NST friends, if you like colourful glass bottles with pretty patterns, The Merchant of Venice is for you. If, by some freakish chance, you like perfume, then… not so much. Tones that are muted well below the demands of politeness coupled with powers of endurance shorter than A Certain President’s attention span.
Today I did some more writing for LinkedIn, spoke to a couple of recruiters, did a little shopping and arranged to see some houses on Wednesday. The other Mr Koenigsberg test-drove his new vegan sandals on the beach. But – sad to say – as we go shopping we are already thinking about limiting what we buy because we only have 4 days left.
But it sounds lik you’ll be back for more house hunting unless you already found THE ONE!
I started off the work day with Attache Moi – 55. Right before lunch, my order of Zoologist Hummingbird arrived. I could not resist spraying a little on me…and I can still vividly smell it at almost 4:30. It completely took over the Attache Moi -55. I like it a lot…almost as much as Zoologist Civet. Just what I didn’t need…to like a new line (to me) of perfumes. I am almost afraid to try the samples they sent me for fear that I will love them as well.
I have been hearing a lot of talk about this line. I might have to check it out.
No office grinch to burst your bubble?
Whew! I had a very last-minute job interview this morning and dared to wear a dab of Tropic of Capricorn and an even smaller smear of Dame’s New Musk Oil. I’m going back for a working interview tomorrow afternoon, so I guess I didn’t offend anybody.
I’m now wafting a cloud of Cuir de Lancôme that might be better suited to slightly cooler weather but was just what I wanted when I got home.
Well done on #1 and good luck with the follow-up #2. :^)
Woo hoo! Congrats on being asked to return and the best of luck on the working interview. You got this!
Well done! Good luck tomorrow.
Congrats on interview #1, and good luck on interview #2!
Congrats and good luck on the interview 🙂 Keep up the good smell karma!
Good luck! I hope you knock it outa the park tomorrow!
You smell(ed) great. Good luck tomorrow!
Nothing today. Not a thing. I’m grumpy, probably due to lack of sleep, probably due to frightening storms last night including tornado warnings and a funnel cloud that went right overhead. Did I mention I’m grumpy? Because I’m grumpy. Who can suggest a good “cheer up” perfume?
Sorry that you are having a bad day. What puts a smile on your face? Chocolate? Maybe a gourmand scent? A nice floral arrangement? Maybe a nice rose fragrance. I wore one today and that made me happy. Or think of an event that occurred in your life that brought you happiness. Do you remember what scent you were wearing? My “happy” or “cheer up” scent is Nectarine Blossom & Honey. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
Oooh, scentfromabove -please email me via my username. I will hook you up with Orange Bitters!
Oh, that’s so sweet of you. Ok, I will. Thanks!
Bombay Bling!
That does sound entirely too frightening for a Sunday night or Monday morning.
Sud Magnolia perks me up.
Thanks, all. I ended up with the “Snap out of it!” smack of citrus that is BBW White
Citrus.
SOTD: Untitled by Maison Martin Margiela
I really like this- just a small sample but I love the galbanum- the incense is perfect, Inthink I detect lavender as well. It is really easy to wear…….3+thumbs up. Will try it in larger decant next.
I am reminded of SL Encens te Lavande and Di Profundis…..????
Eeek, very late to the party! I had an implementation today so no time to play hooky!
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
It’s not quite Sci-Fi but where is it normal for rubber, exhaust fumes, tea and vanilla to play nicely again and again for a remarkable segment of my universe?
Sounds like something Angela Bassett might wear in Strange Days!
You smell(ed) fab today!
Dzing! today, not because I wanted to smell like Zarabeth, but because it is comforting (vanilla) and confidence-boosting (leather) and I had a mock interview AND more dental work today. But both went okay. At least, the interview did. I suppose I won’t know about the dental work for a few years.
Dzing! is so great! Good luck with the interview and dental work.
Miserable weather today, making me thank heaven for the umpteenth time that I work from home.
I wore Mûre et Musc and then had an impulse to layer a dry vanilla over it, which I did with Atelier Vanille Insensée.
