Happy Friday, and happy International Day of Acceptance! Our community project for today: wear one of your "top 10 of winter" fragrances (unless it's summer where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of summer" scents).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm wearing Fendi Theorema, which has carried me through more than one bad winter.
Reminder: 1/27 will be Sci-Fi Friday — wear a fragrance that transports you to some alternative futuristic scenario, or that matches a favorite Sci-Fi novel or movie. Suggested by Solanace, who mentioned Strange Invisible Perfumes Fire and Cream as a cologne a cyborg might enjoy wearing.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’ve never seasonalised (if it wasn’t a word, it is now) my collection so I’ve been doing a couple of other projects this week…
Monday: Bvlgari Black. No.1 on the “FFS, just stop tittin’ about and bring it back you Whittingtons” list.
Tuesday: Gucci Pour Homme. See above but No.2.
Wednesday: Balenciaga Cristobal Pour Homme. See above, but No.3 (joint with Escada Magnetism for Men).
Thursday: L’Artisan Parfumeur Safran Troublant. No.2 on my “Best of L’Artisan” list.
And finally today: L’Artisan Parfumeur Dzing! Not only no.1 on my “Best of L’Artisan” list, but also joint no.1 (with Bvlgari Black) on my “Best. Perfume. Ever.” list.
You had a good week and smell great today. Trying more of any “Pour Homme” named fragrance is a 2017 resolution.
Dior Homme?
Second that.
I love Dzing! You should try Dzongkha as well, if you don’t mind me recommending.
Dzongkha is joint no.3 with Timbuktu!
I love Timbuktu! Now I think maybe I should try Dzing too!
Dzongkha is what I picked today! I hated it a year ago when I first tested it. I found it too bitter and couldn’t wait to scrub it away. But now I do like it quite a lot. My tastes surely have changed a lot!
I also adore Dzing! You smell great today.
Another Dzing! fan and. It’s the scent I wear most often and I’m pretty sure I agree with your overall rankings!
You smell great! Dzing! is sooo good!
Dzing is one of my favorites too!You smell great!
Dzing and Bvlgari Black are two of my favorites as well! I’m still trying to like Timbuktu – I get a weird sour note the first few hours, but I’ve gotten compliments every time I wear it.
AG Ambre Fetiche: amber, smoky woods, incense, vanilla and iris. It isn’t very cold here, but this is great in mild winter weather, too. I used to have a tube of the body cream that was fantastic.
S(ip)otD: Snowman Tea from TeaGschwendner. China green with popped amaranth grains, cornflower flowers, and licorice. It is pretty good and tastes a lot like genmaicha with a bit of the molasses undertone that amaranth has and just enough licorice to make it noticeable, but not overwhelm. Nice.
Teegeschwendner has some really nice teas actually. I haven’t tried any of their flavoured ones, but some of the Edmon’s edition are very, very good.
Love your SOTD.
I like Amber Fetishe for our mild winter as well but recently I was forgetting to wear it. I need to fix it – it’s a beautiful perfume. You smell great!
I know where mine came from and I need to wear it too!
You smell wonderful.
Love Ambre Fétiche, great choice!
Your SOTD is a beaut!
TGIF. I am in Guerlain Mitsouko, one of my winter favorites. I am meeting a high school friend over the weekend whom I have not seen since we graduated 30 something years ago. We just recently got in touch. She will be in New York for 1 week on a business trip. I am looking forward for an exciting and fun reunion with her. Have you all a great weekend!
Enjoy your visit. You feel like 18 again, but with your current wisdom.
Thank you 🙂
How nice! I reconnected with some highschool friends in Los Angeles last summer. It was quite the trip. No one had changed that drastically. Have fun!
Thank you! A reunion with many of them is being organized for late Spring or Summer this year. Looking forward to it.
You smell wonderful.
What a lovely thing to look forward to! You two have fun!
You smell fantastic. Enjoy reuniting with your friend this weekend!
Your weekend sounds awesome, Have fun!
Good Morning
True confession: I went to the Chanel counter and tried that new lipstick crayons. Not one did it for me so I ended up with a favorite rouge coco lipstick. Also decided to replenish my makeup and lets just say, I have reached my limit for the year! After dealing with the same SA for many years, I finally got honest with her. She wanted to give me samples of their skin care line, and I just blurted out that over the years I have thrown all of it in the garbage because my skin is too sensitive, so how about a one perfume sample and we can call it a day. I got a sample (more like a decant) of the EDP of Beige.
I have been enjoying reading all the blogs about winter fragrances but I do not change what I wear based on the season, its more based on mood and events.
Yesterday I also did some sniffing and sampling. Tried Chamade for the first time. Lovely!
Have a fragrant day ahead
You do smell lovely.
My dear Chanel SA, who is brilliant at perfume and cosmetics, tried to get me to try the skin care line at one point. If the supervisor is listening, they have to mention it. My response is that I don’t use skin care with perfumes or in jars because of sensitivity and ingredient degradation. The Guerlain SAs here are particularly assertive in turning the conversation to skin care when you want to look at fragrances. It’s fine to get those brands if those products really work for you, but I prefer not to be pushed to buy things I didn’t shop for at such a high price point and that need constant replenishing.
It felt so good to just be forward and honest, and I will get more use out of that Beige decant for sure.
I am sure they are pressured or encouraged to bring that up. Oh well..what can you do.
I choose scent based on mood, colour, “because I felt like it, OK”…
Why limit your choices, right?
Well, if seasonality makes you happy, it’s just another version of “because I felt like it, okay.”
I like my seasonal shifts — it’s something to do with how certain weathers and certain fragrances are enhanced by each other. Like wine-food pairings, you know?* I really enjoy pulling fragrances out of my “deep storage” (the bedside cabinet) to place into the “current rotation” hatbox on the dresser, just to have them handier…
*Aldehydes really sparkle in below-freezing temps, btw.
Although I will admit to wearing things out of so-called season, if I get the sudden urge for them. Still part of the enjoyment plan.
Of course! I didn’t mean you shouldn’t if it suits you. I just find that the weather really doesn’t affect how much I enjoy most of the fragrances I wear, but it’s a personal choice…
And how is the EDP for Beige?
I enjoyed it. But I have a soft spot for Beige since it was my wedding fragrance.
Have you tried any of the EDP exclusifs?
No, not yet. Very curious!
Nice work in getting what you wanted! I’m channeling you right now cuz I’m at Kayser in Union Square having a raspberry financier. Love these and I want to eat everything they have!!
Such a happy place to visit!
Enjoy Kayser. I love their thin crust apple pie and iced chocolate.
Enjoy! Hope you eat something yummy
I go to the one at Bryant Park. If I am doing something after work, I usually stop in on the way to work and get a pain aux raisin. I keep it in the bag until late afternoon and snack in it so I am not starving when once I get to the evening event.
I’m happy that your honesty was rewarded so handsomely! Please report how the Beige EDP compares to the EDT if you have a chance.
Good job being assertive! I will admit I have always avoided cosmetics counters because I can’t deal with the salespeople. I’m getting a little better about perfume counters, but it is still not at all comfortable for me. I prefer to shop surreptitiously and unnoticed. (And naturally, when I actually do need assistance I seem to indeed be invisible and can’t find a soul to help me out.)
Good for u on being honest and gently assertive!, and on getting a decant of Beige, that never happens in the UK, mores the pity, only makeup samples occasionally.
Good to know about the crayons, I probably won’t bother with them. I’m a big fan of Rouge coco lip sticks, which one did u go for?, I have several, and ‘Antoinette’ is next on my list.
I bought Etienne, which ones do you have?
I’m like you as well. I think I choose my scent according to mood instead of seasons. Especially when you live in a place where the seasons are just hot, hotter, hottest, and just plain unbearable (lol).
I’m in Cuir de Russie, which I’ve surprisingly not worn much at all this winter. But it is a favorite for the colder months.
I have worn my Bois des Iles less than I should too, don’t know why.
Other good scents and loves have been pushing the regulars out of the way for a while, I guess. That doesn’t mean they won’t return to regular rotation though – just on a break 😉
I wore Cuir de Russie yesterday for the first time in ages. It was almost like getting a new bottle it has been so long. Hours later the last bit of dry down made me remember why I like it so much, although I could use a higher concentration. Today I was too bummed to pick a fragrance, maybe I did not want any associations made to a perfume I like.
I love that sensation too when returning to an old favorite.
As far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing extraordinary going on today.
Ditto. Just another Friday for me!
I went with a perfume from a small decant of something I’m not interested in purchasing, for this same reason.
I went with a Top 10 of Winter, but decided against my Top 2 or 3, just in case.
You smell fabulous!
(gave myself a point for wearing Cuir de Russie this winter season)
You smell great!
Inspired by hajusuuri yesterday, I’m in five sprays of Chergui myself today! Three down the front of my sweater and one down each sleeve. One arm currently smells like tea, while my front has gone slightly vegetal over the last half hour (weird), but if I avoid sticking my nose down various bits of my clothing and just let the scent waft up, I am just wrapped by the most luxurious of winter wraps.
And thank you to all of you for your encouraging words over the past two days 🙂 You guys are the best. I look “forward” to stressing out about my defense intermittently over the next few weeks, any time I need some support.
It’s here when you need it – properly scented, too 🙂
I thought about wearing Chergui also after reading hajusuuri’s comment yesterday but went with another perfume this morning. I should wear it on the weekend though.
Stress a little but not much. It’ll be over soon, and everything should be fine – you know that, right?
Hooray for five sprays! Congrats on doing well on your practice defense!
Yes, congratulations! And we are here for you, just say it and we’ll send you good vibes from all around Mother Earth.
Good morning and HAPPY FRIDAY!!!
I can only give a shoutout to my fave winter scent….Aromatics Elixir…..but can’t wear it to work. Too strong for our close quarters , and the office perfume grinch is reminded of a middle school algebra teacher that he didn’t like….HA HA HA
SOTD: Lovely Sheer. It’s another one that’s warm and cozy for cold winter days!
My boyfriend cannot stand this one. (It didn’t help that the one time I tried it, I’d put on two or three sprays of it.) He maintained a one-meter distance from me for HOURS after I used it. I love it, but I guess I will never be allowed to get it :-/ Maybe I’ll secretly get a 2-mL sample of it someday and just not tell him about it.
I love that scent, and I do think it’s perfect for the office. It used to be a springtime scent for me!
I don’t generally have much sympathy for your Office Perfume Grinch, but I admit that it is super-hard to ignore Aromatics Elixir!
Agree with mals, he generally sounds awful, but u can’t ignore AE!
I wore Aromatics yesterday, and the scent was still pretty strong when I breakfasted today, pre-shower. Luckily, I work at home, so there’s no one to complain.
Noir Exquis is a go to winter scent. The best memory was being in an elevator when a man stepped in, smiled and asked what was delicious. Three of us looked around, I didn’t smell anything, and there were no baked goods in any bags. Afterward I sniffed the NE on my wrist 🙂 .
yum! You smell de-lish~
Noir Exquis is gorgeous stuff. You smell fantastic.
Noir Exquis is so beautiful! You smell amazing.
Thank you!
I have a decant of this and I haven’t worn it in quite a while. Thanks for the reminder!
I need to try Theorema – I heard so much about it, and you, Robin, obviously enjoy it a lot.
I picked Sweet Redemption for today. I think it is perfect for winter: orange blossom seems to work here both as a big white floral and as a refreshing citrus, vanilla gives sweetness, and all those resins give warmth. What more can you desire on a grey and cold winter day?
Sweet Redemption is wonderful and incidentally my favourite orange blossom.
Mine too. (And I love BWFs in the cold.)
I’m another Theorema fan here and I say do try it. If you do try it and love it, Beauty Encounter (not affiliated) sells it. I would recommend getting 2 bottles because it’s getting a little ridiculous on the price.
If you’re going to try it, do it soon before it is impossible to find.
I thought hard about this one. This year the two fragrances I have loved for winter have been Dark Horse and Dzongkha. I went with Dzongkha.
Dzongkha is fantastic.
AH! That is a good one
An all-time favourite! You smell wonderful.
Vamp à New York, notorious for getting rid of the blues. Also, some vintage Pour un Homme by Caron that I inadvertently bought last Monday. I don’t know what I was thinking, but it happened. No regrets as it is even more perfect than the current version.
You smell uplifting! I searched for VaNY and have a decant. It may be the perfect thing for later today.
I dig the Vamp! I need to get my decant out.
That’s my favorite Caron. A happy “accident” indeed!
Vol de Nuit (in vintage EDT formulation) was so good yesterday that I chose it again today. Lovely powdery goodness.
Perfect!
SOTD: Gourmand Coquin
To quote Guerlain, “A delicious potion for a mischievous woman”
And one of my top 10 winter scents.
Very interesting that Inauguration Day is also IDOA Day.
Cheers!
Ironic, and NOT like the Alanis Morrisette song.
Really ironic.
Ha! I thought I was the only one who had issues with her use of that word in that song. But I guess “unfortunate coincidence” didnt sound as good.
😉 😀
Oof. That song. I share your and Elisa’s pain.
“A little tooo ironic…” ????
Bear, sorry if I’m repeating myself, but your music references always make my day:)
Thank you lillyjo !
Even if you are repeating yourself, I like to hear it !
😉
You smell lovely and sweet..
I thought exactly the same thing!
Sotd = Ambre Narguile, a favorite for winter, but I could be just as happy in Vanille Galante, another favorite.
I will be accepting of everyone and all scents today. 🙂
A generous and hopeful sentiment …you smell great!!
I’ve been very fickle this winter scent-wise, but my SOTD, Aroma M Geisha Noire oil, has been getting a lot of wear. I really like how warm it is and it’s Shalimar-esque. TGIF!
oooo… I love anything Shalimar-esque
So do I!
When I put on my Aroma M Geisha Rouge this morning I thought of you.
I really need to try that one. I nearly always like Shalimar-esque better than actual Shalimar. Maybe Aroma M will be my next set of samples.
Caron Piu Bellodgia. I bought this fragrance at the Caron boutique in Paris. Caron was the first stop we made, right after arriving at our hotel and freshening up. It brings back such good memories for me.
Connecting a scent to good memories is the best!
A no brainer for me – just reach for the big black egg 🙂
Fame, Lady Gaga? 😉
Black Cashmere!
Just pulling your leg!
😀
SOTD is one of my fav winter fragrances: vintage Bal a Versailles.
Love vintage Bal in winter!
SOTD is winter wonder water Ambre Des Merivilles. International acceptance and spreading community wishes for cozy to you all! ????
You smell like a hug!
Last Sunday I went thrift shopping (on my last day before i started the new job) and found an 85% full bottle of Lovely by SJP.
Wearing that today, after a week of much heavier scents, and while it wouldn’t necissarily make my TTW list, it was the thing that sounded beat this morning. And after a week of the gorgeous Bois des Iles, I feel sated in that department.
Tomorrow I can wear as many sprays as i want of whatever I want – i’ve been taking it slow in the new office environment.
TGIF y’all!
I read you first line as “Last Sunday I went shop lifting…”! I think it’s time I went home. LOL.
😀
AhahHa! Thanks for the needed giggle ????
So funny!
Oh good, so your interview resulted in your new job!
Yes, yay! I am once again gainfully employed. It’s a great team and an interesting project, with enough challenge to keep it fresh. I’m psyched.
As an aside, this whole 40 hours a week is really cutting into my nap schedule…oh well, can’t have it all. 🙂
LOL, you’ll eventually find the right balance! Congratulations!!!
Congratulations!
Happy Friday everyone!
I diverged from today’s theme because it’s not very wintery here in the nation’s capital right now. Wearing Fin du Monde because I wore it to bed last night in honor of popcorn day and couldn’t get enough. I’m a bit jealous that this is my husband’s bottle, and not mine. It’s making me think of some seasoned popcorn they serve at a local restaurant, and it’s got my mouth watering.
So long as he will share! Nice pick.
Hey guys!
1) Happy International Day of Acceptance, indeed! or me that is everyday. God does not make not junk, and all of us have abilities that the human community can appreciate.
2) Am working from home because Portland will do Portland, and so Trimet may shut down service in the core when protests start up this afternoon. Cafe Du Monde coffee and egg on (gluten free) toast.
3) SOTD for winter choice AND in honor of the inaugural: Cuir de Russie. (wags eyebrows suggestively) A truly fine elegant way to do a leather, with a rich powdery dry down. My runner is my Noir pour Femme by Tom Ford- very rich, sweet- but balanced by the flowers and cream notes to not be suffocating in the winter.
I see what you did there.
*saucy wink* 😉
Ede97905,
1. Agreed! I hope I’ve learned we have much to gain through listening and helping one another. ????
2. Yep. I have hope today’s activities won’t be as dangerous as some project, but that seems a wise choice. I wouldn’t be out and about unless I felt a need to be. Safe wishes and prayers to everyone involved!
3. Haha! ???? Good choice! I hear it has a strong presence.
Whoops! Sorry on your name Ede97005!
1) There is space and true wisdom from everyone. And no matter our physical condition, we all have something to contribute to the world.
2) Yeah, I am lucky enough to work from home! My housemate is a CNA, so when she goes to work it’s gonna be more difficult in terms of getting to work.
3) It has a most distinctive presence indeed. Once you smell it, you can not mistake it for anything else! 😉
LOL! Great choice 😉
*saucy wink* 😉
I was just at the Chanel counter yesterday and I have never smelled this one.
Have a good day saucy Ede
In all seriousness, please do check it out! It’s lovely, it truly is, and a great signature for a lady/gentleman for fall/winter
Portland will do Portland. Love that, despite the circumstances.
There are issues, but now, more than ever, they MUST be confronted in our community.
Well said. And an excellent choice. ????
😉 thanks!
Any progress on the water leak situation?
Yes! The adjuster is coming to the house on Tuesday to help. We are running fans in the upstairs. The dripping has stp, so right now the deal is dry up as much possible to prevent mold, and to patch that leak caused by the ice dam.
Acceptance rocks. And Portland sounds like a fine place. (Wink.)
1. Amen.
2. I have been craving beignets! I should learn to make them. Then again my grandson is in NOLA. I feel a road trip coming on.
3. I loved CdR first time I tried it, disliked it the second time. Guess I need a tie breaker. Hmm….wonder if NOLA Saks still has a Chanel fragrance boutique.
My SOTD is Wood Sage and Sea Salt. It’s one of my very favorite anytime scents.
I hope everyone has a great day. My students just surprised me by giving each other some exceptionally insightful feedback about a major project they’re working on – I am so impressed with how empathetic, discerning and focused they are. The part of my job that I love love love is every time teenagers give me massive hope for the future, which fortunately happens on an almost daily basis.
That’s so great to hear!
That’s great to hear Sistine! The elementary and college students I encounter encourage me too.
I haven’t witnessed any of the ugliness.
❤ I’ve seen people- of all ages incidentally- passionate but agreeing to consider another point of view, -and reaching out compassionately.
Your perfume sounds interesting. I’ll read about that.
That’s really impressive: giving good feedback is hard! You must be doing a great job with them.
That’s wonderful! Keep up the good work you’re clearly doing.
Sweet!
I like you perfume (though for me it’s a warm weather scent).
Thank you for sharing a positive part of your teaching experience – we all can use some hope 🙂
SOTD is Dark Amber and Ginger Lily by Jo Malone. Have a great weekend everyone!????
I really enjoy that one! Very lovely and light for a cold day!
Yes, I agree.
Great scent! Thank you for reminding me about it: I should wear it soon.
Have a lovely weekend!
????You too!
As it has been unseasonable warm, albeit rainy, this week I did not go with a winter heavy-hitter. Instead Robin’s latest review inspired me to wear a Goutal. One of my new favorites: Parfum Cherie par Camille, of which I only have a 5ml decant. I’m a bit concerned about the new direction they plan to take. I may just to get serious about a full bottle of this and Hadrien. Although I can’t imagine they would touch Hadrien. As long as they don’t put one of those goofy pom-poms on it!
*unseasonably
No, no way will they ax Hadrien.
The lovely church-y Avignon for me.
Scent twins!
I’m in Douce Amer today — perfect in any season, but especially comforting on a wet, cold, grey day.
Ah, you smell fantastic!
Douce Amère is wonderful, such a unique scent.
I chose Beloved which is one of my top five scents. Happy Friday all!
Beloved is fabulous in winter! That’s on the list of what to wear today.
????
Yes and yes!
Gorgeous!
I don’t think I’ve worn that once this winter! Must remedy. You smell beautiful!
Beloved is one of a few Amouages that I can wear around the year (most of them are my winter perfumes). You smell fantastic!
Not so cold here so I went for Iris Ganache rather than more typical winter scents like Sacrebleu, Kalimantan, or Black Cashmere.
I still can’t believe they discontinued it. Feh!
I could not pick a perfume this morning, too bummed out. Now I am thinking I should have picked the loudest thing I have just as a distraction. Of course the loudest things I have are Timbuktu or Vengeance Extreme which may not be loud to others but are for me 🙂
Timbuktu definitely has presence. Maybe it can hang out with you when you get home!
… and Vengeance Extreme has such a nice name, especially for those occasions when you feel bummed out 😉
You are right, great name for my mood and I did not even think of it!
The line between winter and summer is a bit blurry here in the desert, and most of my perfume collection gets worn 3 or 4 seasons of the year. One of my few gloomy-winter-days-only scents is Avignon, which I’m wearing now. It’s lovely but it has no lasting power on me, alas.
Off work today and I really need to get into the shower. I have to wash Andy Tauer’s Orange Star off. After a while, Orange Star gets annoying for some reason and I do love it. Since people have mentioned Theorema, Beloved and vintage Bal, I must make a decision on which one I will wear even though I will smell good regardless.
Taking a break from exploring my kerosene tin to wear something I’ve probably worn the most this winter, kenzo UFO, which does surprisingly well when it gets cold.
If you follow twitter, Alyssa Harrad was chatting about what perfume to wear to protest/march. Excellent discussion.
I like wearing roses in such occasions. Not on Twitter, dang!
What a great image. I’m going to wear Rahat Loukoum which is perfect for when summer turns to winter and you end up wearing a beanie, a down vest and your favourite sorels even though it is January. I love winter but I prefer it in June.
Mmm, love Rahat Loukhoum. Hope you get some real summer before June!
How is the yacht race going? I see the first competitor has finished. Amazing achievement.
Hiram Green Arbole Arbole, love this one on a frosty day!
I’m still surprised how much I like this perfume. And it has a beautiful color – I might need to get at least a travel bottle of it: you know, just to see the color better 😉
That’s as good a reason as any!
I think I will get me a travel spray for birthday next month
Isn’t it great that this size packaging is now available?
You smell wonderful!
It’s too warm today for winter, so I’m wearing Jasmin et Cigarette. Today sure is a day.
I wote that last night after a shower. It hit the spot. Today is indeed a day.
It does its job really well, do you know what I mean? It’s a chilly scent and makes me feel like Joan Crawford. Just a little! Which is about as much as I want to feel like Joan Crawford.
Ha! A little Joan Crawford is plenty.
Are you two certain it’s not pretend? 😉
It’s an open question!
SOTD = 31 Rue Cambon
Perfect for today! I was originally going to wear either Chergui or Mohur extrait. Late last night, I happened to check work email and thank God I did as I saw an invitation to attend a meeting with the powers that be in my function. Not that I expected to do battle but an extra backbone ooomph couldn’t hurt. The meeting went well! Of course now there is more work to do!
Looking forward to reading about other people’s choices!
Oh, and today would have been my dad’s 85th birthday. How I wish he were still around as he would have enjoyed all the goings on leading up to today. It always tickled him that he shared a milestone with the POTUS!
Extra backbone is always good. I like to wear 31 RC because it makes me feel rich and elegant, but in a pleasant, “everybody share in this delight” sort of way.
I love this description. You hit the nail of the head.
Nicely put.
I agree wholeheartedly with everything younsaid – effortless unpretentious elegance!
31RC is perfect for any day, but mostly especially when you need a dose of Go Get ‘Em. Enjoy your success!
Thank you. Decisions were made at the meeting that may not be popular with thos who think they shoild be the decision makers. I anticipate noise that will need to be addressed by those above my pay grade.
Any Chanel is a good choice for a scent with back bone.
So true!
Happy birthday thoughts for your beloved dad! You smell great.
Thank you!
You smell fabulous!
Thanks!
Finding the right perfume for the occasion is very important, so I’m glad you had that additional support from one of your favorites.
Warm thoughts to you on your dad’s birthday. Thanks to him, we have you 🙂
🙂
And I have him to thank for my name in RL. My mom wanted to name me Pinky and my dad said hell no! If anyone here is named Pinky, it is a pretty name, just not for me!
😀
Double thank you to your dad.
Wow, close call!
I don’t think I could bring my list of winter favorites down to ten, but I have been wearing a lot of SL Bois et Fruits (sp?) so that’s what I went with today. I’ll probably switch to FK Absolue pour le Soir this evening.
Two great scents!
Ha! I spent the day in eight sprays of MFK APLS 🙂
Eight??! Eek 🙂 Were you competing with hajusuuri’s five sprays of Chergui yesterday?
LOL! If Inhad worn Chergui today, it would have been 6 sprays!
????
Is it really morning? Well, bother! Ummm, perfume. Nineteen…no, Vanille Galante…what about that Estée Lauder one?…I love Galop…no, it should be L’Ombre dans L’Eau…or maybe Joy? Oh, I don’t know. I’ll tell you what, I will definitely wear some perfume today. Yawn…is more sleep possible?
What did you end up wearing?
I just saw your response to mals!
Argh, this winter has been rainy and (last week notwithstanding) too warm. Yet here I am, in one spritz of Black Cashmere.
Black Cashmere! Yes! I’ll wear that. A decision decided!
BTW, you smell wonderful. So do I now…
Makeup bags with gift with purchase: when will marketing people realize that we will be buried in an avalanche of bags when we open our cupboard doors? We don’t need anymore makeup bags. There is no longer even a department (in some stores) for them.
I do not mind good perfume bags: I use them to store non cosmetics-related items, e.g., blood pressure monitor that came without a storage bag. But GWP nowadays rarely come with good bags – so it feels like such a waste!
Yes, I remember when Lauder used a prominent designer just a few years ago and they flew out of the store like hotcakes. Then I think there were two more designers used after that. Those were “good” bags. I’ve kept a few good ones and the rest go to charity.
Coach and Michael Kors! I have them!
hajusuuri: Thanks for refreshing my memory!
I pass them on as part of swaps and/or freebies!
SOTD is Lyric Woman, a no-doubter of a Top-10er if ever there was one. It’s also a perfect fit for today’s cloudy, rainy weather.
Have a good Friday (or Saturday), you lovely NSTers.
When I tried mentally to come up with that list, I didn’t move too far (I fell asleep 🙂 ), but I remember that Lyric made it to the list.
Our summer hasn’t been particularly summery, so for our Friday yesterday I went with L’Heure Bleue, which is lovely any time.
I have a hair appointment today, so need something to compete with bleach, Mad Madame comes to mind.
And all your comments on Theorema tempt me to get a another bottle. I went through two FBs in the years before my liking of perfume turned into obsession. I’ve been hovering over a bottle at Beauty Encounter for quite some time.
I wish I had picked Mad Madame today. I always forget how much i like it until I’m wearing it.
I don’t have to please anyone but myself today so I’m wearing Absolue pour le Soir. Going to the dog show later and hoping that seeing lots of beautiful animals cheers me up.
Sounds great on both accounts! Enjoy the doggies. I am at home snuggling mine, listening to the pouring rain outside.
Scent twin 🙂
I’m on the train now but we’ll be scent twins as soon as I get home. I was so glad to see this back in stock on the MFK web site that I bought a bottle (free shipping to the US)!
Triplets actually.
Late today, as usual. Wearing Kimonanthe, which has become a favorite the past few weeks.
I got a decant from the STC Boxing Day sale but have not even sniffed it! What do you like about it?
I love the opening, which is very slightly camphorous to me, with a flowery beauty that must be osmanthus, but doesn’t smell like others with that note I have tried. I could huff this all day and at first worried that it passed too quickly. But in fact, I love the papery incense dry down, which still carries whiffs of the top notes for a long time, especially if it gets on my hair. I went through most of a 5 ml decant and then got the bottle, which is itself very cool looking.
I will wear mine and compare notes. Thanks!
Cuddled up at home with the furries wearing Heeley Cardinal. Wishing everyone a good weekend!
Cuddling with furries is the best (says she who does not have furries)!
Sounds good already
I’m not really in the mood for my regular winter favorites, so today I was trying to decide between Mitsouko or Brin de Reglisse … and I couldn’t decide so I put on Brin de Reglisse and when that wears off, which is will because it’s an Hermessence, I will put on some Mitsouko! Curmudgeonly today but happy with my scents 😉
Fun day at work,we had fire training. The instructor showed us how normal household products can turn into lethal bombs! That was quite interesting(I knew Cocoa-Cola was poison, but combined with pool-chlorine…wowzers.Lol)
SOTD!I went with “Favorite brand of 2016”,which includes all the seasons of ’16:smellbent Cocoa Rose.It was a bit much for the warm weather today, but still I smelled lovely.
My new training regime is becoming addictive,I had a great afternoon of excercises and an awesome walk in the countryside just before sunset.
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!!X
Congrats on the Boot Camp love. The one at the gym I used to belong to holds Boot Camp at 6AM which is nor work friendly. Re: training sessions like the one you had — the joke amongst colleagues is that if you didn’t know how to build something destructive, now you do!
Lol.That is true!Is it normal to actually want to “try it at home”??Lol!Luckily I’m too scaredy-cat to ever attempt such foolishness.
Now I’m a little bit terrified. Cola and pool chlorine are a deadly combination? It’s a miracle I survived childhood.
Yes!He showed us a couple of possible combinations-say you went to the grocer and for some reason they decided to pack your Coke with the pool-cleaner,and both leaked onto each other…KABOOM.The other interesting one to me was brake fluid+chlorine:one big-ass fire! And I’m one of those guys who always has break fluid backup in my car’s boot-where I load the groceries in as well.I immediately went and removed it from the car after that!
*Brake/break..still sleepy it’s 8am!!lol.
SOTD = the original Agent Provocateur EdP. My little sample of this is disappearing rather quickly! This is oh so definitely on the full bottle list.
It hasn’t been typical winter weather where I’m at… all grey, drippy, and dreary rain most of the time. Not really cold temps either, except for one brutal week early on this month. So I’ve been breaking out autumnal comfort scents and no-brainers.
I really like AP, too! It’s really great in fall weather, I think. And it’s so cheap.
I have to go with my overall fave Shangri La today. Always lovely but the spice and cozy warmth make it great for winter.
Shangri La was the first chypre I really loved, and kept me from giving up on the whole category. (Mitsouko and I are not friends.) You smell wonderful!
Wearing Chanel No. 22 EDT on a wet, but warm day.
My Chanel no. 5 Body Oil just arrived, and I cannot wait to try it.
No. 22 is so beautiful, and it sounds like you had a perfect day for it. I hope you loved the No. 5 body oil.
Even though seasons in the Northern California are not as pronounced as in many other places, I do mentally separate my perfumes into seasons. With my habit of wearing different perfume every day, I rarely use the same perfume during a month period – so I do not have “go-to” winter (or other seasons) perfumes.
So I decided to wear today Ormonde Jayne Tolu not because it’s perfume I wear most often this season, but because it’s perfume, which I never wear in summer – for me it just feels like a cold season perfume.
That’s a good enough reason!
I’m so late posting and I don’t have time to read all the comments like I love to do but I’ll come back to them over the weekend. I wore two winter favorites today: started out with Theo Fennell Scent which is SO good, I kind of rediscover it every winter as it just doesn’t smell as good to me in other seasons, than added Memoirs of a Trespasser when I changed clothes late this afternoon. Technically, MoaT is a favorite fall scent but since the weather this January feels more fall than winter, it’s perfect.
Scent is great, it’s true.
Today we were allowed to wear jeans to work. I paired my denim with a blue crochet cardigan-duster thingy. I thought it would be nice to dress up the outfit with Miss Dior – le Parfum. It was nice until my mood changed, and really wanted something more quirky and loud.
Was it a one-off occasion, or do you have casual Friday every week?
It was a special jean day. I think since they announced the store closing, management has been trying to make us feel better? With little perks.
We’ve gone full on casual at work this past year. Though I love the lax feel of jeans & tees for work, sometimes I miss having separate wardrobes for work and casual.
I agree, I like having a separate wardrobe too.
I did not plan to spend the day in Tiziana Terenzi Laudano Nero but I wanted to test it this morning and put a couple of spritzes on the back of one hand. Many handwashes later, it’s both persistent and quite strong, so it’s inadvertently my SOTD.
I’ve been trying to stick to a testing schedule the last couple of weeks, but did almost none at all in November & December. I spent those months in this year’s winter faves which have been Chanel Coromandel, Tauer PHI, Molinard Habanita L’Esprit, L’Artisan Amour Nocturne, Shalimar Mexique, and Chergui. I also slowly developed a bit of an addiction to Angel Muse, which turned me on to the original Angel, and I’ve worn either one or the other at some point during the day for most of January.
Will be celebrating my bday tonight with the H in Chanel Misia, having dinner then hearing some Shostakovich – violin, cello, and piano concertos (concerti?)
Happy scented birthday! Sounds like you have a very nice evening planned.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, kpaint! Have you ever watched Mozart in the Jungle via Amazon Prime?
Happy birthday! Enjoy!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Your evening sounds perfect.
Happy Birthday!!Enjoy the concert!
Happy Birthday, kpaint, hope you celebrate through the weekend.
Un Bois Vanille, which smells like baking sugar cookies on a snowy day.
I need to try it again, on a cold day like today. It struck me as a little too much the first time around.
Today I used an entire sample of Nashane Istanbul Pachuli Kozha. This is a beautiful, golden, honeyed edible patchouli with overtones of bourbon and chocolate but very dry in exactly the same way that Serge Lutens Borneo is. I shall not even share the exorbitant price of this fragrance except to say that the bell jar from Oncle Serge is a better deal! I was happy to try it, thanks to a fellow NST reader.
Sounds lovely, if fiscally intimidating. 🙂
SOTD is Agent Provocateur L’Agent. Its mix of warm florals and smoky weirdness seems perfect for a cold, stormy, generally gloomy day. The last week has been gloomy in general. I’m very much looking forward to tomorrow, for a couple of reasons.
Just realized it is now Saturday morning, not Friday. Oh well…
I’ve been really perfume-indecisive this winter, and have leaned quite heavily on Stash. It’s spicy but light enough for the mild winter weather.
Waiting for my husband to wake up so we can try a new restaurant nearby, Cast Iron Waffles and Espresso. Have a great weekend everyone.
