Hump day! Plus, I missed Bittersweet Chocolate Day yesterday and mean to make up for it today. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Lolita Lempicka Sweet, by perfumer Anne Flipo.
Reminder: on 1/13, wear a perfume by Anne Flipo, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am still doing Chanel week, today is Coco. I have one of those perfume wardrobe sets from the 90’s, and Coco is from that set. Its so beautiful and a few drops goes a long long long way.
I have been feeling some intense energy this week and really trying to stay grounded. Perhaps, bittersweet chocolate will help ๐
Have a fragrant day!
Bittersweet chocolate helps with everything!
Coco is beautiful- you smell great!
Coco is gorgeous. I am enjoying the development on my skin. Like no other
You smell amazing. I love Coco!
me too..you would love this version.
L’Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons today.
White flower overdose.
Haven’t worn this in years, and had forgotten how much I enjoy it.
Anne Flipo did such lovely florals for L’Artisan — I don’t know if I’ll get to Jacinthe des Bois this week, but it’s another favorite.
Lovely! (I’m saving that one for Friday).
New gravatar!
Yes. The new gravatar is my Spanish Galgo puppy. my New Years resolution is to be more like him. He assumes that every day is to be savoured, stops eating when he is full, plays every day and snuggles like a world class champ. He is also a huge believer in naps and kisses.
He makes my heart sing.
I relate – my goal is to be more like my dog, for all the reasons you mentioned. Congratulations on your new puppy, wishing you a lifetime of love!
He is adorable!
How delightful!
He’s adorable, and so is your resolution!
Chew on shoes, when they need chewing.
Hide the loaf of bread in the yard from time to time.
Walk around naked.
Alert your loved ones of stranger danger and then love the stanger as soon as they come inside.
Forget hurt feelings about 10 minutes after they happen.
Sniff everything.
????
In my way to Boston for a 3-day seminar. Wearing Chanel 31 Rue Cambon. I am carrying a decant of this one and No.19 EdP. Both beautiful and appropriate. Glad that we will have a small break with the cold temperatures. Letโs enjoy them!
Indeed, I’m ready for a break from the cold. You smell great.
house cousins, and you smell lovely!
You’ll smell great all week! Enjoy. The weather is lovely today and I’ll enjoy that????
What a great feeling to walk out my door this morning and not have to brace myself for the cold. The sun and blue sky is beautiful.
Definitely going out for a walk at lunch.
What a relief!. Enjoy your walk!
Pomegranate Noire bath soap, homemade amyris body oil and Tubereuse Capricieuse.
Happy Hump Day, y’all!!!
I love this soap, but if I go beyond the most infrequent of uses, it irritates my skin.
Lean in a bit so I can enjoy the smell on you ???
๐
and I love your new avatar!!!
Wow. Lovely!
Oh and I forgot about my Godiva chocolate coffee this morning! I usually don’t drink coffee on a regular basis but it was SOOO good:)
You smell pretty darn good with Pomegranate Noir! And I meant to comment – hooray for the return of the edible 3-eyed owl.
YOu and Undina talked me into its return ๐
I’m in Iris Nazarena. Now that I have short hair, I find that I spray a little more since I no longer have my “diffuser” of longer hair to swish around for wafts of the scent. I think that’s possibly the only downside I’ve found to cutting my hair off so far.
I hope you smell good. I won a decant once and received a lot of extra stuff, but the lovely person forgot the actual prize. Ah, well.
Did you mention to the person they forgot the actual prize?
Interesting, never thought about that!
I didn’t either until the other day. I had shoulder length hair and was used to spraying it a couple times and letting the scent sort of waft near me at work and…. can’t do that now. Another reason to invest in lots of scarves this winter to spray and wrap around my head!
Scarves are usually a favorite way to experience a perfume. But the other day I was with my son at the hospital (routine visit–nothing serious!) and we were talking to the doctor. I was warm, so I removed my scarf. Immediately, the scent of Cristalle began wafting. I am certain I noticed it before the doctor. I saw her look a little confused about a minute or two later. I carefully avoided looking at the “Scent-Free Environment” signs posted everywhere for the rest of the visit.
i also like scenting my leather gloves….
I don’t know… spraying more doesn’t sound like a downside to me ๐
Only for people around me if they don’t like the scent ๐
Love Iris Nazarena!
I do too. It’s a really nice all-around scent.
I love my “diffuser” long hair ๐
Agree, this is a plus!
It’s interesting how the scent on my hair was a little different than on my body. Hair doesn’t get as warm so when I’d get wafts of the perfume, it smelled like it did when I first put it on for the day, whereas on my wrists and neck it’s much different due to body heat and skin oil. I’ll miss that to some degree, but I still prefer my hair short.
I was reading Frederic Malle’s FAQ yesterday (I think someone here posted a link to it) and it was endlessly entertaining! He talks about spraying it near or around your hair (or sometimes in your hair) to diffuse it. I never did this when I had long hair, but now I sort of wish I had! It will be quite some time before my pixie’s grown out ๐ I’ve been spraying more behind my ears and at my nape – I feel like there’s less available skin to spray on in the winter. When I wear a big mockneck sweater there’s only the skin on my face showing!! ๐
I spray my neck and wrists and then give myself a light “showering” so it falls on my head. I’ve also taken to spraying the back of my neck where it gets warm and I can get wafts of scent that way. I love my pixie cut and will not be growing it out anytime soon.
Wow, I will think twice before I cut my hair short. I used to have it short, but those days I was not addicted to perfume like now.
I didn’t think about that at all, but it’s ok. I am glad I cut my hair because it definitely feels more ME than before.
The main thing is that you like it ๐
I need to start using my hair as a diffuser.
SOTD is Sacrebleu, one of my favourites by Nicolaรฏ. Tea is a chestnut oolong.
Wish PdN would do some new things that weren’t oud and/or luxury! Seems like a long time since she has.
Yes, that is true. She has done some Intense’s fairly recently, but I think they would not be quite your thing. I wonder for how much longer she will continue. My guess is, she is in her late fifties.
A mere child!
๐
I actually found some interviews with her on You Tube. All in French. She has a very no-nonsense approach to her subject, which I like a lot.
Or bring back Le Temps d’une Fรชte! Pretty please.
That tea sounds really good.
It is!
Sacrebleu is one of my all-time favorites. I am sure you know how wonderful you smell
I know, and thanks. Sacrebleu is my favourite Nicolaรฏ, together with New York. It’s intensely comforting.
A bit of this and a bit of that (not Ricci Deci-Dela, though). A solid Amber thing I can’t remember the name of and a bit of Nuit de Noรซl.
I’m saving my one AF, la Chasse, for Friday. Today I’m in l’Aromatica Kulfi, because I was discussing this with someone just a few days ago, and because I needed something to keep me cosy while my boss acts like an unprofessional jerk. Two more months, y’all. Now the big question is: will he send in my recommendations in time? (This weekend! Ahhhhh!)
Kulfi! I love that one, and the dessert too! Good luck with the jerky boss.
The best kulfi I’ve had outside of India was at a restaurant in London called Dishoom! Mmmm I am missing it right now. And thanks.
Ah, Dishoom! Yum! :^)
Oh yes, of course you know it. We make it a point to go there every time we are in London. I love it! It also helps take the edge off of the abysmal Indian food in France.
Argh – hope he gets his act together and does it right now.
Honestly, it should take him under three minutes. He’s already written it for something I applied to last summer; he just has to attach it to an e-mail and press send >.<
Ivoire. I’m wearing an ivory sweater and a black skirt and in my mind I look quite elegant but in real life I probably look like a waiter. At least a very nice smelling waiter.
Ivoire is a beauty. I’m often mistaken for a sales associate in the perfume and cosmetics areas in stores because I often wear black from head to toe. In my mind, I just look like a New Yorker. ๐
Black & white can do that to you, although I love the color combo myself.
I saw a number of women in skirts today, with tights of course, but with 20 degrees more out there I think they’re more game.
I bet you look gorgeous and I know you smell great!
Ivoire is so beautiful! You smell amazing!
Second sampling of Gourmand Coquin, and yep! I do adore it. I was going to also sample Oriental Brulant again on the other arm, but I don’t think that would be fair of me. It is very nice, but much quieter in comparison.
Gourmand Coquin is so good!
Isn’t it incredible? I just want to gnaw myself it’s so delicious.
SotD: LโArtisan Oeillet Sauvage (new version). I like it, but I can’t imagine reaching for it often. I can imagine it going with a full-on business suit. Luckily I only have to do that a half dozen times a year.
S(ip)otD: MF The des Signes–Coq, which is bright blue in the cup. It is an oolong with goji berries and blue flowers. Fun.
Blue tea! I’m sure that’s a visual delight. I liked the old Oeillet Sauvage when I sampled it, but couldn’t find a bottle anywhere and haven’t tried the new.
It is tough to love new carnations when you have smelled the old, I admit.
SOTD TF ombrรฉ leather
Ahhh, the sensation of unwrapping a new box and spraying with abandon!
Such a fantastic sensation!
Spraying with abandon is so rewarding!
I’m not fortunate enough to be spraying from a new bottle — just a sample — but my SOTD is the same! I really do like this…
Yves Rocher Neroli today.
I’m so mad that I lost my sample of Lolita Lempicka Sweet before I even got the chance to try it!
Wearing MFK Baccarat Rouge and wishing I didn’t like this so much
It is not so fun that you need lose sleep over it!
You smell delicious!
I have a sample of this and I absolutely loved it! It is so expensive, though. Oh well, I will enjoy the rest of the sample. And, you smell terrific!
No Anne Flipo fragrances in my perfume arsenal. SOTD is Horizon (Oriza Legrand).
What is it like?
Lovely. I kept getting paper or cardboard early on in the development, now it is a creamy patchouli in the far dry-down. Not sure I need another fragrance like this in my wardrobe, but I will enjoy every last bit of the sample.
Vol de Nuit Evasion for me today. Lovely stuff!
gorgeous!
Very pretty and easy to wear!
I’m in Galop again today, over the remains of last night’s Rose Jam shower gel, (diluted) Rose Delight, and bedtime dabs of Zephir de Rose. Apparently I’m on one of my rose benders! I’m really enjoying Galop — at first it struck me as just a very elegant blend of rose and leather, but yesterday around hour four this *deliciousness* started to radiate, like shifting sunlight suddenly gleaming through stained glass.
Battling with temperamental sinuses and wearing Boudicca Wode. I smell crisp and cold.
Oops; not sure how this comment wound up here! Galop is on my list of decants to get; tried it at the store and it is beautiful
I’m wearing the spellbinding Alahine today. Such a treat to wear.
I’m going to be in LA for a day and a half this weekend and I sure hope Scent Bar has this one to sniff!
Scent Bar is top of my list when I next visit LA.
Have fun!
In the words of my hero Napoleon Dynamite…. “Luckyyyyyyyyyyy…..”
Had to skip LS on my last visit to LA and it may be months or a year before we are back again. What else are you planning to test?
Omg I have quite a list. Here’s the ones I’m hoping they have in stock (and this was useful because now I have them typed up in an easy to print format!)
Nobile 1942 – La Danza Delle Libellule
Heeley Coccobello
Etro – Messe de Minuit
DS & Durga – HYLNDS Glen, Coriander
ELDO – Rein, Noel Au Balcon
Hiram Green – Arbole
Teo Cabanal – Alahine
Nasomatto – Black Afgano
Histoires – 1740, Vidi
Tauers (aside from the Marocains)
Parfumerie Generale – Cuir Venenum, Musc Maori
Cadavre Exquis
MEMO – Lalibela
Olfactif – Autoportrait
Atelier Cologne – Trefle Pur
Papillon – Salome
Shay & Blue – Watermelons
Fraaagola Saalaaata
Just a few…
Super fun list. If you run out of ideas (ha!), I was hoping to try the various iterations of Kiki. . .
Alahine is a dream! You smell terrific!
I love me some Alahiiiine! I wear that one loud and proud
Yes, I always think of you when I wear this one because you love it so. ๐
Aww! Thank you
Me too! I imagine your word (alahiiiiiine)extending the length of the horizon on your avatar! So cute!! You get an enabler pin, because of you I ordered a sample and it is terrific!!
One of my favorites, and the bottle is very pretty as well.
You smell wonderful!
I’m continuing my Ormonde Jayne wearing! I didn’t care much for Tiare yesterday. I like to read a lot about the fragrance I’m wearing (reviews, notes etc) and I saw it compared to Chanel’s Cristalle quite a few times. I have a tiny sample of that, so need to test it out – but I remember not liking it much. I think I need more than green, sparkling, champagne, dry, austere…or maybe it’s just the wintertime. I want cosy and deep, and a touch of sweet in my perfume, I want to not be able to keep my nose off of my wrist!
Last night I put on Frangipani and quite liked it – it has more of that sweet tropical sense that I was looking for. I’m hankering for a creamy delicious tropical floral for the summertime (and dark days of winter) – I have a slew of samples from Luckyscent to work through, but always interested in suggestions if anyone has one they love!
Today I’m in Champaca, which I really like. I remember it not lasting very long, so I brought the little bottle with me and I’m interested to see how it perseveres! I love a rice note in a perfume – so delicious.
Have you tried her Tolu? I love that one, and also OJ Woman, on which I have received many compliments.
I love Tolu! I wore it on Saturday. It’s so delicious – it might be my next favorite after OJ Woman ๐
I love Fragripani for the 15 minutes I can smell it on me! I would love something like that that doesn’t go away. I have settled for tuberoses to fill that buttery-floral niche for the time-being.
I’d like to explore more tuberose. I like Carnal Flower – but haven’t tried any others!
Moon Bloom is a lovely one!
I tried this one at Scent Bar over break. It *is* lovely! But the tuberose I bought was Le Labo Lys 41, with no regrets! I also have 10mL of Carnal Flower, which may be enough for a lifetime, since it’s ENORMOUS.
For a gorgeous tropical floral that works well in winter as well as summer I recommend AG Songes.
I have a sample of this I need to spend more time with! It was one of the first samples I got when getting into perfume and I didn’t like it – but I had a small sniff if it recently and liked it. I’ll give it a go!!
I need to try those two! They sounds lovely. Tolu is also on my list.
Happy “Hump Day” to everyone!
I wanted to first start out by thanking all of you guys for the kind words and support you have been sending my way. I had my surgery this morning. I had to report to the hospital at 5:30 a.m., but was the first person so there wasn’t a long wait time. All went well and I am on the path to healing. I am sore and drowsy, so sleep will be the goal today. I have been given 4 weeks for recovery with a follow up visit in 2 weeks, and to continue physical therapy. So, yay!
My SOTD is Intense Cafรฉ by Montale. I couldn’t wait to get back home so I could spray my perfume to my heart’s content! ๐
Hi!Glad that it was a not-to-bad experience!Holding thumbs for your speedy recovery!x
Thanks! I appreciate it!
You smell great! Hope your recovery goes well.
Thanks! ๐
Rest and get well
Will do. Thanks.
Ugh! How soon does recovery include some light walking? That was my saving grace post-surgery this summer. After a couple weeks, I could walk whenever I wanted to. I took to the street twice a day most days, just to see something different than my reading room!
I was told today to just take it easy and rest. I resume with my physical therapy on Friday. They recommend that I get up and try to move around as much as possible and to use my walker or cane for support. The more I move, the lesser the chance that it stiffens up again. But, I have to be careful not to overdue it. So, I have 4 weeks to build my endurance. But, I can’t wait until they clear me to go back to the gym.
It took me 2 months to get back to the gym post-surgery this time. It’s amazing how much you miss it and how soon! I hope your rest is restful. ๐
Hope you’ll be on your feet and feeling awesome soon.
Me too. Thanks.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
๐
Reiterating what everyone has said: recover quickly!
Will do.
So glad the surgery went well! May your recovery be swift and gentle.
I appreciate it!
Glad to hear everything went ok. ๐
Thanks!
I’m glad to hear everything went well, and hope your recovery is just as smooth.
Me too. Thank you.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks.
Good to hear that your surgery went well. Hopefully the healing is smooth and easy too.
Did I miss it? The other knee or the same one? In any event, glad it went well so far and much continued healing to you!
I went proudly South African today with Imithi from perfumer Emily Pienaar over at Rose en Bos(Roses and vine). This is more autumnal(forest floor patchouli with an awesome rosy drydown),but I enjoyed it in today’s cooler weather. Her line is described as “Botanical Perfumes”,using local naturals like fynbos, rooibos, cape civet, and some synthetics. For almost-natural perfumes they are very longlasting.I just wish her distribution and exposure was a bit wider(Not afiliated!).Happy Humping guys!
Lol.
X
Those sound really interesting, does she ship to north america? Would love to try them.
I am not sure! You can check on her website at http://www.roseenbos.com!
It seems she does sell internationally through an Etsy.com shop.Hope that helps!
Who cares about your fragrance, what’s your garden doing?! ๐
Haha! The garden?Well the spiderlilies(some call them amazon lilies) are close to blooming, pink Hibiscus is in full bloom,Gardenia as well.My roses have suffered from the extreme wet weather, the Aurum lilies(black and pink)are at the end of their flowering season. That yellow tomato plant is growing towards heaven,I can harvest carrots and beetroot soon.Oh!Soon I can pick some Strelitzias, there are six flowers coming out. They look so cool in a huge vase. That’s about it,Marjorie Rose!Lol!Thanks for asking!I will miss this place a bit.X
wow! sounds like paradise!
I’ve decided that I have to live vicariously through the gardens of folks in the Southern Hemisphere during the long winter! Johanob doesn’t seem to mind. ๐ And his garden *does* sound fantastic!
I am happy to oblige with some mental images of my garden,Marjorie Rose.Saturday my gardener Franz will swing by for the last time to help me mow the lawn, get rid of the weeds and trim some unruly bushes and fruit trees, before THE MOVE.I do have a brandnew garden to get my hands on.That is exciting!
Yay! New project!
Woke up to another rainy day, having Kusmi black tea with rose petals so I will continue the theme with Portrait of a Lady. Chocolate of the day will be Marou Treasure Island, currently my favourite very dark chocolate.
That Kusmi tea sounds awesome. Which one is it?
Butting in to say I think it’s just called Kusmi Rose!
You smell wonderful. Wondering, where do you purchase the Kusmi tea and that type of chocolate in the States? I know Neiman Marcus sells some Kusmi teas.
The black tea with rose petals is only sold in bulk (not in the tins) by actual Kusmi stores, there is one in New York. I order over the phone. http://Www.darkchocolateimports.com is the Marou US sales portal, but there is not a full range of their products available. Of the ones they show available, I like Dak Lak best.
I think I may only have a sample of one of Anne Flipo’s; Manifesto which I kind of like, but not enough to own.
Today I’m wearing my sample of Byredo Unnamed and I like it, just in time for it to be difficult to find, probably.
Looking at the cherry reminds me of my husband’s bar trick – he can tie that stem in a knot (inside his mouth! using just his tongue and teeth!) – sometimes even a double knot. Talented man.
Long ago, a lover did that cherry trick when we first chatted at the bar.
It was a useful tool for him.
And me !! LOL
๐
*blush*
Haha!Slight overshare,Bear,but good to know!(such a handy skill,too…lol)
Haha! I didn’t really mean it in a risque way!
!!!!!!!
your husband is a keeper
I went on dates with guys who could do that with a cherry stem–it was a good trick for a first date, I guess! Impress the ladies. ๐
Correction, in deference to diversity: impress the persons. ๐
Haha!We get you MJ.No need to be that politically correct,I think most folks here are super-relaxed regarding stereotypes and such!x
This conversation is exactly why NST is such a fabulous place to procrastinate.
Greetings from S * N * O * W * Y Portland! About a foot in downtown, is the rumor. Looks like about half that on my stoop, which is enough to make a person house-bound in these parts. Thankfully, as a former Minnesotan, I own a snow shovel, so I will get to it at some point. Probably not before another walk with my camera, though.
No scent, yet, other than remnants of PHI in my hair from last night. It’s been lovely in this cold weather, but maybe it’s time for a change. . . perhaps Memoir?
Hi There! It’s about 4-6 inches in Parkrose. Everything is so quiet.
Hello from Mt. Scott/Arleta (but I like to say Woodstock ๐ )! Just saw the first neighbor on the street. I think we’ll all be off to a slow start this morning.
It would be quiet here, except my kitty, Opie, is freaking out and trying to attack crows and snowflakes through the window. ๐
I have yet to try PHI! on my to try list!
It is truly a transformative scent, IMO. It’s one of those fragrances that show you what fragrance can be. Hope you get to sniff it soon!
Oh, you MUST try PHI….I am addicted to it!
LOL! I love watching cats as they watch the snow from a window! ๐
He seems really perplexed by the whole thing! It’s pretty great.
The quiet is blissful, isn’t it? We have about 10 inches here (close to the foot of the west hills). Driveway is completely impassable, and out the back door (which is mostly glass), I can see that I’m going to have to get the push-broom and shove those 10 inches away from the doorsill before The Big Thaw comes.
Oh! That’s a lot! The push broom will help, and be sure to put down de icer or sand!
Fortunately it’s the door to our back deck and I don’t think we’ll need to go out there anytime soon … but you’re right that it will be slippery until it thaws completely. The only thing we have on hand to sprinkle is the coarse salt my husband sometimes cooks with — I guess losing some of that to the deck beats a broken bone anytime!
Yup. I just shoveled mine. I would guess we’re over 10 inches by now. Amazing!
That is a LOT of snow for Portland. Friend of mine moved there and he always sends up updates on how helpless most Portlandians are in snowy weather (friend is originally from PA so he knows snowy weather). He texts us jokes that the city declares a state of emergency with just a dusting and is CLOSED when there’s one inch. The jokes have been rolling in all day with this dumping! ๐
Being from MN means you’ve got some good experience with it though. Stay safe and warm there!
It IS a lot of snow for Portland, and it’s HEAVY snow this time – the push-broom idea didn’t work for me at all. It was like pushing against mostly-set cement. I had to call in the muscle. ๐
I’m sorry you’re too far away to lend you my shovel! The roads are a mess, though.
Mr. Spicebomb is trying to hatch a plan to get to the Blazer game tonight. Apparently tickets are a steal on stubhub all of a sudden. I think he’s nuts.
Good god. I’m sure they ARE a steal, dollar-wise … but that hotel bill he’s gonna incur when he can’t get home afterward will probably make up the difference and then some!
Ha! Good point!
Hump Day!
1) Hello from Snowy Portland! I was going to a meet up to see Hidden Figures BUT the snow forecast made us reschedule. It snowed a lot last night (for Portland) and I am glad I did not get caught up in the storm.
2) It’s so pretty outside, and so quiet. That muted quiet when snow falls.
3) Am in tiny drops of Black Jade.
4) Hot coffee and jazz. Am working from home today!
Your mention of jazz inspired me to treat myself to my iTunes library – listening to Dylan at the moment.
My sweet MIL took me and (soon-to-go-back-to-college) Bookworm to breakfast this morning for my birthday, how lovely of her. I’m working on altering three pairs of pants for Bookworm – even though she buys petite sizes, I still wind up having to hem all her jeans/trousers/sweatpants by 3 inches! Life can be tough for short people.
Am wafting Iris Poudre and wishing everyone a wonderful day.
Happy Birthday Mals!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! You smell lovely!
Happy Birthday to you!
Have a very happy birthday, Mals, and and extra wonderful year!
…and *an*…
Happy Birthday fellow Capricorn!
Happy Birthday! Gosh, I need wear my IP.
Oh! Happy Birthday! And may you have many, many more!
Happy birthday! I hope it’s a lovely one!
Very nice. Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday! You’re smelling fiiine!
Happy Birthday!
Wishing you a wonderful day and an equally wonderful year.
Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great day. You smell wonderful, I love Iris Poudre.
Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful one!
Happy Birthday. Enjoy the day!
Happy birthday!
The happiest of birthdays to you!
Best Happy birthday wishes to you Mals! Hope the days a peaceful one and you get to celebrate. ๐
Wishing you happiness on your birthday!
As a short person who has hemmed many pairs of pants for self and others, I applaud you. ๐
Happy birthday Mals!
Happy Birthday Mals!
Hope it was a perfect day!
Happy Birthday Mals!
It’s supposed to be around 80 today so I’m in Patou Sira des Indes. It was a blind buy, but one I’m quite happy with. Yay for Fragrancenet coupons.
You smell delicious!Banana-ylang-ylang…Love Sira des Indes!
It’s just a happy coincidence but my SOTD is CSP Amour de Cacao.
But you must get some chocolate on your breath too, it’s just necessary.
Good job you. You were my inspiration to get this!
Jo Malone Basil Neroli, layered with JM Blackberry & Bay oil. I really like this combination.
OOO that sounds good….I will have to borrow the neroli and basil from a family member in order to participate on Friday….
Wore Au Coeur de Desert by Andy Tauer yesterday and really enjoyed it. I was amazed at the lasting power of it but still can’t help but think, why? Why would Andy Tauer do a flanker? It’s still well done and on the to buy list. Right now, I am in a vanilla kick because I still want something comforting. The rearranged my whole department at work and I can’t find anything so everything takes twice as long to do. So I am in SDV today and loving it.
I really like this one! I’m putting it on my to sample list for tonight ๐ ๐
Curious, why not? I think the idea of revisiting an old fragrance must be tempting to any perfumer. The fact that there are so many crap flankers out there should not be a deterrent, should it?
Anne Pliska. The last of my sample and I’m sad to see it go. Trying to decide if I need a full bottle or a decant of this one.
I’ve been thinking I need to try that one after all the reviews. How does it smell to you madtowngirl?
I love it! It smells like a sexy, orange creamsicle.
My favorite review from Luckyscent reads: “Exotic dancer turned gold-digging wife of an oil baron shows up late and slightly drunk to a luncheon at the country club. This is the perfume she wears.”???? I laugh every time I read that.
I see from your SOTD that you like Orange Sanguine, so I think you’d really like the orange top note in this one…I’ve thought that maybe they could be layered.
It feels less dated to me than others from the 80’s. It’s definitely worth a try!
Please report back if you do!
Oooh, I’m imagining Orange Sanguine layered with Fresh Cream to get Creamsicle!
SOTD is Naomi Goodsir Or du Serail as I work from home due to about 10 inches of snow that fell here during the night. It’s beautiful out there, and now nearly light enough to get some decent winter-wonderland photos … IF I can make myself go out into the cold. The jury is still out on that. Marjorie Rose, I envy your fortitude. ๐
You smell great!
A foot of snow at my house here in Portland. The dog woke me at 5:15 to go out and he never does that, so I assumed he had some sort of internal emergency. After I made coffee I went to let him back in only to find that he had gone to sleep in the snow. He’s a northern breed and some genetic imperative must have called to him, because the snow is still white everywhere in the yard.
SOTD is a sample of Sweet Morphine, which I quite like, but I already own Desarmant and Roja Dove Lilac extrait, so my lilac needs are met and I don’t need another.
I wore that one yesterday…you smell sweet and lovely ๐
I already own RD Lilac extrait so I decided to pass on Dรฉsarmant and Sweet Morphine as well. So cute imagining your dog curled up in the snow. ๐
Looks like the coasts have switched weather patterns! So cute about the dog!
And I’m in Rima XI from Carner Barcelona
And you smell amazing.
I haven’t commented in a few days and have been dealing w/ the drama that is life.
My dad, who has heart failure for several years, was in the hospital for a week but has been moved to rehab now so fingers crossed his mobility will improve.
Then I found out on Monday they are closing my office so I will be jobless on Feb 3rd. This wasn’t a big surprise but I expected some announcement about my location more towards the middle of the year and was hopeful they would move to a smaller office or let us work remote.
I am in original formula Eau Premiere today which is a lovely distraction from all of the above. ๐
Glad to hear your dad is recovering. Maybe you can look at the office closing as a window opening? Maybe more time to spend with the little one(s)? (Sorry, can’t remember if there are 1 or 2.)
Thanks, it is a window opening as Reverend Mother says. (that’s a Sound of Music reference lest you think I’m nuts ๐ ) The company has been bought out again and changed over the years. I have one daughter and I am looking forward to some time with her before (I hopefully) move on to greener work pastures. ๐
“The drama that is life,” is right! So sorry the universe decided to dump on you all at once! Hope the EP helps. ๐
Thanks :)…good perfume cures many ills.
I’m glad the news about your father is good, not so great about the job. I hope everything works out for you.
Everything will work out for you! Positive intentions
๐ I hope you’re able to find a new position that fits your needs. Sending good vibes out! In addition, you smell lovely.
Drama indeed. Sorry to hear about your job and especially your dad, although it sounds like he’s making good progress.
Always the possibility of lots of good to come out of big changes. I hope this is true for you.
New and better things are in the way for sure. Sending you and your dad warm wishes.
Ouch, tough times, but it sounds like improvement for your dad. Best of luck for a great new work opportunity for you!
That’s a lot of life to happen at once. Hope your father continues to improve and I’ve been through that job thing and can say, in retrospect, that it was for the best. I moved on to more satisfying things. But it was stressful. Big hugs and you will get through it all, smelling great! (You ARE the princess of power ????)
Yep, got to find my sword and big girl panties as is said. ๐
So sorry to hear that life has decided to throw you a rather nasty curve at the moment. It stinks.
Glad your dad is doing better. Boo hiss on the job situation but you are resilient and will bounce back in no time!
Inspired by Mals, I’ve decided on Iris Poudre for me too today.
Botrytis today. Lovely.
I am thinking of getting a cat for my son. He is so full of energy, he completely wears me out! I never had a cat, but I am thinking part of his energy will be directed to the cat, as opposed to me. What do you say? Will he be distracted by a cat, or, on the contrary, will they both attack me with doubled energy? Any suggestions for what kind of a cat I should get (male, female, old, young…)? I am thinking of getting him a kitten, because he’s only three, and I do not want him to go through the trauma of losing a pet at a very susceptible age.
Botrytis is fantastic–certainly my favorite honey scent.
We got one of our cats as a kitten a few years ago, and goodness was she a [super adorable and endearing] handful. Kittens definitely need a lot of playtime, so it could be a good way to keep your son busy and also teach him caring and responsibility. I don’t know if we mere mortals have the power to control whether a cat pays attention to us or someone else, though. ๐
Our other cat, we got when he was 1, which is still youthful/playful, but not as hyper or destructive. He’s just the sweetest, cuddliest little guy (and I *think* that’s more common with male cats?). Personally, I think an adolescent male cat was much easiest to start with, but I guess a lot depends on the specific cat’s personality.
I think they could be good entertainment for each other. Of course you will have all the responsibility for caring for the cat, but that might be worth it for a few extra minutes alone each day. ๐ I would think a 6-12 month old cat would be best, less fragile than a baby kitten.
Kittens can be like having another toddler so be forewarned! My 2 little guys were a lot of work and would get into everything, and still do at 4 years old, so our place is “child proofed” and no plants or fresh flowers can be in the home. Even with that, they’ve eaten things they shouldn’t when we’re not watching or less careful and have had our share of ER visits. Not sure they’re the norm, though. We have a particularly mischiveous and active breed. An older(>2 years), socialized cat is probably a better option. Might be a good idea to go with your son to a local shelter to look at the cats. The staff will probably know which ones might do better around children.
Ha! Read your comment after I wrote mine. Agree!
Copy cat ๐
I see what you did ๐
Older cats languish at shelters. The advantage of getting a cat 1+ years is that its personality will be mostly formed. If you find a adult cat that your son really connects with and the kitty tolerates his 3 year olds antics, you are set. A kitten is one of the best things in the whole wide world, but it may not grow up to feel that way about your son. Cats are errr well cats. We got a kitten for my then-11 year old son a few years ago. I love that cat so much, but he is very big, a little heavy for my son who is frail. And although my son loves him, the cat is a little ambivalent about my son! The difference in the life expectancy of a kitten vs a 4 year old really depends on many things.
Finding a gentle and playful for your son sounds like fun. Let us know how it goes.
Just make sure he’s not allergic to cat hair / dander.
Dropping in today to say WHOOHOO I smell perdy! SJP Stash oil in my hair, and Fiele’s Cedrus edp.
Happy Wed everyone.
I had some remnants of Songes remaining on my skin this morning so I topped it with another spritz
Topping off the remnants with another spritz of the same scent is just perfect. Songes is so pretty. You smell great. ๐
SOTD is Anatole Lebreton “L’Eau de Merzhin”, which is pretty agricultural on me and not very long lasting.
Notes: galbanum, angelica, violet leaf, cassie (magnolia), hawthorn, flouve (made from grass), hay, tonka bean, orris and oakmoss.
[Ed note: very sorry but I removed the whole section about Trump.]
Koenigsberg, I’m so sorry but I’ve deleted the whole political part — we’ve done really well avoiding political arguments here and I want that to continue! It’s probably more important now than ever. I know that personally, I love having this one politics-free space in my life.
No worries Robin, I was just being cheeky. :^D
I understand the temptation ๐
On Ruelala, there are some by Kilian refills on sale, like $128 instaed of $160. There is also a lot of other good stuff, like Amouage, Annick Goutal, Artisan, MFK, The Different co. etc etc, but since I have no money now, I did not really look at the discount they are offering. I only noticed by Kilian because I never see it on sale…or perhaps its just me ๐
Happy hump day all!
I loved Chasse but I don’t have any right now- so I’m Wearing cheap and cheerful Pacifica Blood Orange lotion and perfume.
I needed a pick me up! The winter vortex is getting ready to dump on us and I’d like to run away to a warm beach! the oranges smell like sunshine.
I had forgotten how much I liked the smell of oranges! ????
Think it’s time to buy a decant of Orange Sanguine. ????????????
I love orange scents too. Pacifica Blood Orange is great, and so is Orange Sanguine. The orange top notes in Cologne du 68 are wonderful. It’s as good as Orange Sanguine and I like the drydown very much.
SoTD is Bottega Veneta because it is always JUST RIGHT and I couldn’t decide on anything specific. Boy do I love this one.
Happy Birthday Mals!
Good Luck w/your Father &She-Ra, treasure every minute you have with him.
Yes to Cat Adoption, it is a MARVELOUS CHOICE!!! Heartwarming & humane!
Ours is a black cat, named “Khalessi” She is such a character and really FITS her new name!!
Khalessi is the name of a mother cat in Robyn Anderson’s cat blog over at love & hisses!
Another crazy day at work with no time to post. SOTD was Coromandel. Nuff said. ????
Yum, you smell great!
SotD = so far nothing, nada, zip. Don’t know what happened this morning, but scent was off my radar. It has been a busy day. I think I’ll wind down with Ambre Narguile and a walk around the block before the sun goes down.
My philosophy is that even no scent is itself a scent!
Wise words. ๐ It is nice to clear the olfactory decks from time to time.
Commando by accident today! I’ve been struggling to get a routine together. So much is new. But happily reading and hopefully participating on this blog is a constant.
And sometimes reading through the SOTD I smell everyone’s perfumes in my mind to the point where I hardly need any more perfume!
We were non-scent commando twins today! ๐
Late to party! SOTD = Le Labo Iris 39
Iris 39 is a perfect transitional fragrance. We’re in winter but it feels like a coldish spring. I’ll be back to No.19 because the crazy (work-wise) is here with a vengeance.
I was about to trigger a large sample buy of MCG Lankaran Forest and realized that my Twist d Lily coupon had expired. Money saved, for now and so far, have not yet spent anything on perfume and it is already 11 days into the new year!
It must be a record! Money saved for your next big perfume love or fun vacation! You smell great today! ????
Ha! ha! hajusuuri! maybe my no buy is rubbing off on you too ? ๐
