Tuesday scent of the day 1/10

Posted by Robin on 10 January 2017 242 Comments

Polly George butterfly teapot

It's Tuesday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing L'Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons, by perfumer Anne Flipo. I do not match the weather, so I will have to solve that by staying inside. I do match my tea:  Jasmine Snowflakes (excellent!) from Tea Trekker.

Reminder: on 1/13, wear a perfume by Anne Flipo, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the butterfly teapot is by Polly George, and it appears to be sold out.

That is an amazing tea pot!
My tea pot is also white, but shaped like elephant and the spout is the trunk. I am drinking MF green tea

Since I don’t have anything from this Anne F. I am doing Chanel all week. No19 Poudre
Playing some Ray Lamontagne for the babies and for myself.

    Have a fragrant day

Cute tea pot. I’d totally end up breaking off those little butterflies though because I’m such a klutz.

I’m in Cuir de Russie today – a lot of it.

    Good morning Y’all….

SOTD: Grisette, by Lubin. Gorgeous stuff, but still light enough for the office!

I fancy myself today as a “young working woman who is coquettish and flirtatious.” We’ll leave the whole prostitution thing aside! LOL! :)

I’m in Tom Ford Fleur de Chine today, from a small decant I got during one of STC’s sales. Oh how I wish I could bring myself to spring for a FB … but I can’t. Even discounted. :( Enjoying 24 hours of plain cold rain before it is expected to freeze and create more chaos here. This winter – yeesh.

I am with you, I also love FdC, I was asking around for something similar and someone suggested Chamade. I have never tried that one, so I am not sure if its in the similar family.
Gold by Amouage reminds me a little of FdC, but for the price, you could have the real thing.

Fleur de chine is lovely , I got a bottle for £50 or there abouts on eBay UK, the best deal at the moment is £59.99 + £5 p&p, of course that may be more for international shipping tho.

I love TDB, you smell great. I am wearing a scent that feels related to it, Dior Homme Intense. It has a sweet powdery iris smell I love. Despite being marketed as a men’s fragrance I think it is unisex.

I can’t seem to wake up this morning so am trying a frontal assault with Amouage Gold and an extra cup of coffee. I have some of my little sample of vintage Gold from the crystal bottle on one arm and a huge spray from a current sample on the other to see if I can tell the difference. So far my nose is rebelling, but Haineko is sneezing in a very ladylike way (cat sneezes are so cute!) so I must at least be potent. More coffee, I think.
Oh, since I have bills to pay and want someone to benefit, Four Seasons Products is having a clearance sale with some nice perfume deals. I haven’t purchased from them but have heard good things and they have some really good prices on Amouage, MFK, and a couple of tempting Diptyque candles. Looks like only one of each in stock. Hope somebody finds a treasure!

I just always forget that I DO like it. It smells unmistakably like perfume and nobody is going to be wondering if there’s a farm animal about or if I’m wearing rubber underwear or anything of that sort. Don’t need a bottle but really want to skunk everyone out with it occasionally. Most Amouages are like that for me, to be honest. I expect that one day the coffers will be full-ish and I will stumble across a bottle at a discount and be unable to resist.

It IS perfumy. Which is not a bad thing in my book, but it’s just so… thick? It’s like No. 5 with beard stubble. Shrug. I dunno. Theoretically, I *should* like it. And the sample is here on my desk so I keep getting whiffs from time to time, and I keep getting startled by it.

BTW, thanks a bunch for the Four Seasons sale PSA. I just hopped over there and found MFK Lumiere Noire pour femme, which is kinda my jam :) and which I have been saving up for some time to buy, on clearance. With the “join us” code, it wound up almost half off… no box, not that I care! So I bought it. I have been telling The CEO and kids for weeks that there’s nothing particular I want for my birthday, but, um, I didn’t know I’d find LNpf at that price! I’ll have to tell them what I’ve done. :) Now I’m just hoping that I managed to get my order in before the limited quantities ran out…

OMG, I ordered once from Four Seasons, and I had no end of problems. First they did not ship it for 1 month; every week i would call, and they would say that now they shipped it for sure and give me a tracking number, which was never recognized by USPS and the package never came. Finally, they send me a package with a totally different fragrance inside, and open at that. They finally did send me the correct package, but they insisted there was a return label for me to return the incorrect fragrance, and there was not. Then they started bombarding me with frantic emails “Send it back NOW!!!” So stupid me, I said Id ship it myself, and they can reimburse me the money. They said OK, I paid $10 in shipping, now, almost three weeks later, I am being blamed for opening the incorrect fragrance, no money reimbursed, of course, and they are not returning my emails.

SOTD is Anatole Lebreton “Incarnata”, which most reviewers like (or don’t) for its lipstick/ make-up notes. Me, I don’t get that so much: it’s a pleasant enough iris scent for me with a hint of powder and not terrifically good longevity.

    Top: raspberry, violet and rhododendron;
    Mid: orris root, myrrh, rose and powdery notes;
Base: amber, suede, benzoin and vanilla.

Today is a cloudy day so I have been perfectly content writing stuff about delivery methodologies and (mostly, if I’m honest) reading LinkedIn articles. I am such a geek sometimes. :^)

Such a sweet tea pot! Actually some tea would go very nice with the breakfast cookies I made yesterday (only gave them 2 our of 5 stars, unfortunately).

I’m in PHI today! I’ve missed this glorious perfume.

New Yorkers, I think we’re up 10 degrees today! Makes a big difference. Feeling quite cozy in PHI, however.

Very little sugar, but lots of other stuff — dried apples, raisins, cranberry, blueberry, toasted walnuts, coconut chips, oatmeal, white & wheat flour. Only 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 c. honey, and orange zest which I really love. A colleague said they taste like a soft granola bar.

The nice thing about the cookies, though, is you still have multiple recipes to try next. Can’t wait to hear about the five star ones.

I admit to liking the cold weather because I finally got a warm enough jacket that layers are not required. Why is it I love it more because I got it on deep sale?

That’s how I feel about my puffer coat. That was a game changer when I finally bought one.
I love a deep sale too, but only when in season. Sales out of season are not as appealing for some reason.

I’m looking forward to the five star ones too!

Another -28C AM. Heating with wood is great except for cold mornings when the coals have gone down and you really need to use the bathroom before you rekindle the fire. That is a shock nobody needs.
I have several scents by Anne Flippo, and I am trying to use some neglected bottles, but apparently this morning, I said to heck with any logic and went for Chanel 22 EDT.
I cannot believe I have only recently discovered this jewel.

I’ve been wearing FM Portrait of a Lady for the last couple of days and thinking about how much I almost like it. I love the rose but the patchouli is too strong and a bit unpleasant. In a just perfume world I could order up a version with one tenth the patchouli, and real instead of fractionated.

FYI, I just noticed this interesting Q & A section on the FM website:

Wearing SJP Stash. No need to say too much about it, since everybody seems to love it. I find it pleasant, nice and for sure a no-brainer. I like the opening more than the rest of the composition. Unfortunately, it does not last more than 2 hours on me, even though I had 3 sprays on my sweater and 1 behind each ear. I enjoyed it for the time it lasted. I am thankful that my scheduled site visit for today was postponed for next week. Yesterday was painfully cold. Drinking a cappuccino and waiting to attend a dinner retirement party later on. SOTE Chanel Cuir de Russie.

Question: has anyone tried Prada Infusion de Vetiver recently? Kevin reivewed the limited edition in 2010, but it was reissued in 2015 so I wonder if it’s changed. A version in black, white and gray packaging seems to be widely available on discount sites right now; not sure if that’s new or old, actually. It’s not the version on the Saks 5th Avenue website currently.

The Nordstrom in Montgomery Mall has all of the Prada Infusions, which I quickly sprayed all over both arms a few days ago. They seemed true to their names, but lasted for about 5 minutes. Perhaps they would behave differently with more liberal application.

SOTD = Noontide Petals. I love this stuff, it’s like No . 5’s hippie niece who just got back from Morocco. :-) So, its like I am taking a tiny vacation to a warm place every time I sniff my hand. I loved Morocco the last time I was there.

I need to get out of Michigan and travel! Says the woman who hasn’t managed to make it to Windsor…LOL!

I need a new passport. I am stymied by the need for a passport picture. Will they accept selfies? Or just take one for you like the DMV? Geez, I need to stop being such a slug.

Happy 2017 to all you lovely people. Hope it is going well for all you so far.

It’s got to be better than last year.

Grump, grump. Love the teapot. :-)

Oh, gosh, I need to renew my passport too! I’d better check the expiration date, not sure if it’s my birthday or the end of January…

We just got the boys their passports this past fall, and had photos done at CVS. Under $10 for both, so it’s not that expensive. We have to apply at the county courthouse, and they do NOT take pics there — it might depend on where you are applying.

I *wish* I got No. 5’s just-back-from-Morocco-hippie-niece from Noontide Petals! It’s rather gruesome on me — one of the Tauers that’s led me to believe that he must use an ingredient that either smells like incense or bilgewater depending on the sniffer’s genetic makeup. Apologies to Mr. Tauer — I do love some of his perfumes immoderately.

Alas, you have to provide the picture and it has to meet some official standards, so selfies don’t work. But lots of places are set up to take them for you. I want to that unheard or thing, a photo shop eight or so years ago.

You can totally use a selfie – I use them all the time for visas and my passport, and I travel internationally for work! :) I edit it in Photoshop to make sure the background is white and my face is rightly proportioned :) I print them out on photo paper and that has worked just fine!

Happy Tuesday everyone! It’s raining raining raining here today – dark and gloomy out but imagining what everyone smells like brightens me up!

I’m continuing Ormonde Jayne week and wearing Tiare. It’s been quite a while since I’ve worn this one (I have a small decant), and it’s not thrilling me like others from her do – I loved wearing Ta’if and Tolu the past two days – which is probably a good thing! This winter I’ve been tending toward sweeter, more ambery, vanilly, resiny scents – I think this one might do better on a warm day when a crisp green white floral is desired.

Yo! Dunno why, but I feel exhausted, yet I think I slept pretty much all night through. I’m a bit grumpy and fed up, too, but again, have no discernible reason for feeling that way. SOTD, therefore, is the ever-inspiring 31 Rue Cambon: I have to live up to it, so I’m making an effort, putting my best foot forward, etc, etc, and how utterly DREARY that is! I don’t want to be grown up, I want to wallow and smell fabulous while I do it. The cat Dakkie has brought me not one but two knitted mice and is looking at me as though to say, “Make them do something interesting.” I’d rather play with him than join the adult world today.

Oh, I want one! A student runs a little business on the side doing one-off T-shirt prints. I’m going to order one in an elaborate curlicue script, the sort of handwriting I earnestly tried to cultivate when I was a teenagers, to the lasting detriment of my cursive writing now. I fancy a deep maroon legend on a cream T-shirt, but I seem to remember giving her a D on an essay, so I’ll probably end up with mustard writing on muddy brown…goodness, I REALLY am gloomy today. I might wander off and stare at the dear man for a bit. That often cheers me up!

My perfume resolution for 2017 was to test samples as I get them rather than saving them “for later.” The old strategy led to a bowl brimming with little vials and duplicate purchases, since I keep track when I wear a sample but not the ones I buy. Today’s is Parfum d’Empire Aziyade. It started out smelling like fruity sweaty feet but now I’m getting fruit and a thread of cumin. Not going on the buy list. The recent ice storms have messed up my painter’s schedule and he’s not coming today, but next week. So I could paint some trim, or go to the movies, or read, or nap…Have a good day, everyone.

It has quite a bit of cumin… It smells like pretty spicy very fancy cherry cough syrup to me, but I like it a lot.

Considering my taste, this is probably the most surprising bottle I own. I went to Place Vendome perfumery with the intention to buy an iris scent, possibly No 19 extrait, and ended up buying Aziyade.

      Life is a mystery.

SL L’Incendiaire today. I have a mini which is all I’ll ever need… good thing that, considering the $.

Horrid commute today, 1.5 hours. My internet’s out at home due to storm damage over the weekend, so I’m stuck actually coming in to work, which is oh so fun on a stormy rainy day. Should be even more fun driving home, since we are scheduled for high winds and heavy rains starting around noon. I’ve got boots, gloves, shovel, and loppers in the truck. Hope we don’t need them.

Tired of winter already. Yes I know we need the rain, but all at once???

I thought L’eau d’hiver would be appropriate since the wind and snow we had to drive through this morning is supposed to turn to freezing rain in time for the drive home. I bought a full bottle last winter, but I swear I can no longer smell it AT ALL. What could be going on?

Still in my sleeping bag in my tent looking at the view of a hill through the open door. The dogs keep bringing in pinecones and I chuck them out… Been playing this exciting game for ages. A tuft of thyme hangs above my head and fills the air. Yesterday the rose hips from the briar rose made the hill smell of rose jam. Perfect summer holiday.
