Another Monday! And who knew that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Jimmy Page shared a birthday? What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Donna Karan Woman, by perfumer Anne Flipo.
Reminder: on 1/13, wear a perfume by Anne Flipo, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Opus VIII, L’Atessa and Arbole Arbole
wow…are you sampling or layering all of those
Sampling 🙂
and the Amouge is a travel spray so I am going to give myself a few sprays on my sweater in a minute…love it!
That is powerful!!
Received my adorable bottle of Assam of India over the weekend – enabled by you and promotional
pricing!!
Isn’t the bottle adorable? and the scent is quite versatile…one of my no brainers 🙂
Hope you enjoy it!
So? Whaddaya think of them so far?
All are great…my first Amouge….and I like it 🙂
Thus far I have sampled Voyage and Arbole Arbole from Hiram Green….I had to choose between the two I would pick Voyage as I can smell the distinct lavender absolute (which I LOVE as an essential oil) but Arbole is nice too….same for the L’Atessa.
AND yesterday I spent a good deal of time with Shermine and PHI…love them both and now I see what all the fuss is about with PHI!
Repeating myself but Phi is wonderful.Everyone should own a bottle!Have a great week!x
Oh gosh, I am ADDICTED to PHI…luckily my fragrant fairy sent me a fairly large decant of this stuff..it was still lingering on my bathrobe this morning…talk about tenacious 🙂
There really is something *special* about PHI, isn’t there? A truly wonderful scent–I’m glad you both get to enjoy it!
The drydown is soooo worth not showering.Lol.x
So, is this where I admit that on occasion, I have avoided washing my hair so I could enjoy the fragrance in it a bit longer?
LOL to both johanob and Marjorie rose on the No showering 🙂
Like your new gravatar Johanob
Me too, but what happened to the purple hair?? 😀
Lol!Thanks! The purple hair was replaced with the ashy-pearlblonde a couple of days back.Next up:”cherry burst”,I think in a month or so.X
I want to see cherry burst so please update your avatar after you do it 🙂
Frigid temperatures…a big bowl of oatmeal with fruit
SipOTD The des Lumières, brought back for me from a nice friend that visited Paris.
SOTD, staying warm and snuggly in Coromandel
Not sure if there are any other WSJ readers here (no affiliation), I read the article about Sephora on the front to their a Business & Finance section. Gave me a different perspective of the LVMH group
does the LVMH own Sephora too?
I didn’t know Sephora was owned by them until I saw that. Now I understand some of the changes in brand prominence in their stores. One really has to shop around so that other brands can stay “alive” in this age of consolidation.
Fascinating article, thanks! Here is a direct link:
http://news.morningstar.com/all/dow-jones/retail/20170109639/at-sephora-an-ugly-battle-begins-wsj.aspx
Thanks for this! Will check it out. Remember when there was like one Sephora in all of NYC?
One thing I’ve noticed that’s changed with them is they’ve cut back on stuff to use to sample product — tissues, cotton, throw away tools. I find myself frustrated trying to find where these are and sometimes there are none and you have to go to the makeup artist area which ticks me off because then you have to deal with them which is exactly the reason I don’t go to dept. stores for makeup!
I have noticed that too!
That was in another WSJ article, on the money being wasted by people going to Sephora and using them like an extension of their makeup bag. Maybe after that article was published they scaled back on the tissue and stuff like that.
“community makeup”? Thanks, but no thanks. Yuck!
You do smell warm and snuggly!
Vanille 44.
This is my birthday week staycation, so I will spend the week enjoying all of my favorites.
Happy Birthday Jimmy Page! Capricorns are the best!????
Happy Birthday!
You smell lovely. Happy Birthday! Have a great week.
Enjoy 🙂
Happy birthday! Yay for Capricorns, too. 😉
Capricorn are the best, and I know because I’m a Pisces! Happy Birthday and hope your week is fabulous!
You smell great! Wishing you a lovely birthday week!
Happy birthday — enjoy your staycation!
Lovely idea! Happy Birthday and enjoy your time off and smelling good!
Happy birthday, and your perfume plans sound perfect!
Happy Birthday! 🙂
Happy Birthday!
Thanks so much everyone!????
Happy Birthday Week!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Best wishes for a fragrant year.
Happy Birthday and thumbs up on Vanille 44!
Showered myself in L’orpheline on this ridiculously cold day.
Yup! five below for me this morning 🙁
This is the worst part of winter – this biting, frigid cold that seems to never go away and I can never get warm enough unless I’m living in my own igloo of blankets on the sofa.
With lots of tea-LOL! My person keeps the temps in the house a bit too low for me (68 degrees) and I have been known to wear three pairs of socks !
When I lived in MN, I would fall asleep snuggled in with a hot pad. (There’s all sorts of warning on it saying you shouldn’t do this, but I managed to survive without burns.)
After a weekend of 40 cm of snow followed by -32 C temps, I am feeling a bit austere, so in CdG’s Avignon.
I smell like the air wafting out of a rural church after Catholic high mass on a frigid Jan day.
Wow, great description. I have have never smelled this but definitely have an image now.
On days like this, it is the perfect scent
Sounds perfect! I may be the oddball but I love huge snowfalls.
Early morning workout.
Triple strength coffee.
Chili made with cocoa and chipotles.
B*Men Thierry Mugler, A*Men’s more intelligent, less eager to please, hence, less popular younger brother.
Rhubarb, anise, and warm wood beneath.
Has Mugler discontinued any other “pillar” fragrances, other than this?
Not flankers or limited editions. I think this is the only one.
Bo Diddley guitar and beat to volume 12 !!!! He left me an autograph, let me collect dust……
David Bowie R.I.P.
Carpe Diem. 😀
Fabulous!!! everything…coffee food and fragrance!!!
That chili sounds delish!
B*men was a good scent, surprised they discontinued it.
That chili sounds awesome! I’ve got a few new recipes for chili I want to try, one is with cocoa. Such good food on cold winter days!
Bear, you’ve just confirmed to me that we are kindrid. Be well, my brother!
Yum, this all sounds gr8, wish I could have some of that chilli for my supper!
I may be a sort of reverse twin: cocoa with chipotle (plus cinnamon, cloves and ginger).
Also made chili, but with ground bison and frozen white corn kernels.
Stay warm, all.
Thanks for the love, Everyone !!!
😀
I’m wearing Alaia today. It’s still chilly here (46 degrees F), but the temperature will be in the 70s for the rest of this week
Oh, I wish it would be 70 here!
I would settle for 46
Ha, at the moment so would I.
It’s redonkulously cold for this Southern gal! Brrrrrrrrr
Drinking Stash pomegranate & raspberry tea, as hot as I can stand it…
SOTD: Calvin Klein Truth
Stay warm and cozy y’all!!
Truth…nice! havent’ smelled that one in ages!!!
The lovely vintage Bal à Versailles, of which I put on a little more than my head was ready for this morning. I’ve gotten so accustomed to wearing a ton of everything that I forget that one size [application] does NOT fit all 🙂
Do you know, I have never tried that one.
Going on my list..
It’s fabulous. Is anyone noticing it at work?
Fortunately (or not, because I’m exhausted!), I got to work about an hour before most other people today, so BaV had some time to relax. Between that and the blanket I’m wrapped in, I doubt anyone will notice
I for one would notice and would be following Elleebelle around the office like a puppy dog 🙂
Loved Bal and wore it many years ago.
I would also join the puppy brigade
I made the mistake of first trying that in the middle of the summer and almost suffocated. I need to revisit it in colder weather. It is lovely eventhough I’m a little afraid of it now.
Ooh, have heard such good things about this one, will make sure I try it this year.
Brutally cold today and I MUST go to an emergency field inspection in an matter of an hour that requires me to be out in the cold the whole day. Drinking my third cup of coffee and wearing Donna Karan Black Cashmere. I hope that helps me survive!
May Black Cashmere keep you very warm! You smell wonderful!
Stay warm! At least it’s a little sunny today.
Brrr. Wrap up in that Black Cashmere!
Black Cashmere is worth at least one layer of long underwear. Good luck!
I’m a little bit jealous. I used to do field ecology in MN, and with the passing of time, I have mostly fond feelings towards the winter survey work. . . Time heals all wounds, I suppose!
Fève Délicieuse.
You smell divine!
Yes she does!
You smell beautiful!
I think the only AF perfume I have is Oeillet Sauvage (just a small decant-wish I had a bottle) so I’ll save that for Friday. Today I’m cozy in EL Sensuous Noir.
I’m in the same Flipo boat – only a tiny dab of Oeillet Sauvage left, though I think I might still have half a sample of Barbara Bui Le Parfum.
I have a sample of that Flipo, and a mini La Chasse, so I’m saving them for the warmer weather later this week, when they should be able to make themselves felt.
I read through that list and all I have is La Chasse, so that makes the decision easy.
Me too, will have to dig it out of my ‘spring/summer box’, although it must be said, I’m mixing things up more and more, and am really getting a taste for BWF’s and the like in winter.
Eeek, I forgot I have a partial bottle of this!
A lovely woman, good friend, and colleague passed away 4 years ago. Today my school dedicates its new building in her name. I am wearing her Chanel 5 that her husband gave me when she passed. A classic perfume in honor of a woman who was grace and class personified.
What a nice tribute. Thanks for sharing.
That is so cool.Glad you are honoring her memory scent-wise as well.
Lovely tribute and nice that you were given something of hers by which to remember her.
Wow. That’s an honor; both the building and the perfume. Thanks for sharing with us. You smell wonderful!
How fitting to walk the halls of a building dedicated to what must have been a remarkable woman in her in Chanel No 5.
She must have been remarkable. What a lovely tribute.
What a nice gesture. May her memory be a blessing.
She must have been wonderful to leave such footprints. Enjoy all the memories her No.5 will bring.
What a wonderful way to remember you’re friend.
What a beautiful story – I hope the dedication is lovely!
How lovely!
What a wonderful tribute!
2 drops of Argan oil is the only hair conditioner I use. I like to scent with some EO, since the Argan itself smells a little odd, and would like to share with you that this time I nailed it! I put 10 drops vétiver, 10 drops blood orange and 10 drops lemon EO, and it is heavenly. I was aiming at Terre d’Hermès but it smells a lot like Guérlain Vétiver.
SOTD is Shalimar cologne. Nice stuff, but I like Ode à la Vanille better, as decent Shalimar flankers go. Baking lasagna, since the kids are still on vacation. Tomorrow we are heading to the beach. So excited! Wishing you all a great week.
OOOOO! thanks for sharing that recipe 🙂 I bet it smells amazing!!!!
Enjoy the beach, solanace!
Take me with you! !!!! LOL 😉
Ah, beach. At the moment it seems hard to believe I’ve ever been to one. But I’ll try to suppress my envy – enjoy!
Enjoy the beach!
Please explain recipe — you add all that to 2 drops of Argan? Or more argan than that?
20 ml aegan oil, Robin.
Thank you!
Beach!!!!
I put 2 drops of argan on my hair this morning, too–although that’s 2 drops rubbed between my hands until there’s a barely-detectable film left, because my hair’s so fine that’s all I can use. ???? Anyway, your EO mixture sounds really nice! Enjoy the beach!
Having beach envy here.
I am up to my EARS reading about photovoltaics! Gah! I need a break from all these awful papers that I need to Google every word of to understand.
This morning, I put on Vanille Galante. Then I discovered the Metro was flooded, along with many of the roads in the southern area of the city, in between my home and my lab. I stupidly believed my Metro app, which told me a bus would take 20 min (vs. 50 min on foot). I finally arrived in lab 70 min after I left my apartment, a journey that typically takes 20 min door-to-door. The streets were totally packed, of course, and so were the buses, and in the human crush, my lovely Vanille Galante was replaced by Vanille En Sueur [sweaty vanilla]. Blech.
Hope the day improves!
how do you like Vanille Galante? I happen to love vanilla and tend to go for it on the sweet side (Black Flower Mexican Vanilla and Pacifica’s Island Vanilla)…this weekend I got to try SDV and eau de Missions and they are both different from what I am used to but I really liked them both and am happy that I have these decants…
Also, while I have your attention, how does the Berdoues compare to CdR (which I happen to like) If they are similar that is good as the Berdoues is substantially less money.
I like Vanille Galante a lot! It’s not very sweet on me. I get a hefty dose of orris from it, though no one else seems to agree with me. (Someone said she got banana from it, which I absolutely don’t!) If I had lots of money, I would get a travel spray of it, but it’s not FBW for me. If you prefer sweet, it might not be great for you.
Thanks for comparing SDV and EDM! I really want to try them and plan to get a SDV sample once my no-buy is off (yup, even samples are off-limits!). It’s good to hear that they are different; how so? Given the VAST price difference, I’d love to love EDM.
I haven’t tried CdR, actually, though I’ve heard great things about it. What’s it like? I was thinking about Russkaya Kozha again today because there are traces on it still on my scarf. It’s such a magnificent leather. If I do get a bottle of it next month as a present, please remind me and I can send you some!
oh boy I did a poor job of explaining! The SDV and EDM are incredibly similar to each other but different from what I am used to (sweet vanilla!) To me they are drier and deeper and darker…someone else can chime in but I think they might have a tobacco note? I really really like them both and happy that I do cause the EDM is significantly less money…for now I can be quite content with my decants of both….
I am hoping that annicky or another aficionado will chime in on the CdR……to me it smells like the way my old leather gloves did when they absorbed perfume…the leather is there but not overpowering…my guess is that RK is similar as the Berdoues are so artfully blended….no worries about sending me any…once I am over my no buy it will be my first purchase 🙂 I am assuming that eventually it will make its way to the online discounters as the other Berdoues have ….
Ooooh which discounters, please? I’d love to get some Assam of India and Selva do Brazil (and probably the ones I didn’t get to try!) after my no-buy, if they’re sufficiently discounted to keep my bank account from noticing!
CdR sounds amazing. And sorry for misunderstanding what you said about SDV and EDM; a drier, deeper, darker vanilla sounds perfect! I have been contemplating a blind-buy of EDM, but have been repeatedly warned against it.
I bought Assam of India for myself from smallflower and got a 10% discount when I signed up for emails….but I got 20% off of Vanira Moorea, Oud al Sahraa and Arz el Rab when I bought those as birthday/holiday gifts from fragrancex…but I have seen other online perfume companies carry them and they also have various percent off sales that you need to look out for…thus far I have not seen any of those Berdoues at fragrancenet and the RK is probably too new to be appearing at the online discounters yet…..also, check out beauty habit….I originally got all samples from smallflower because they were cheap (three dollars each) and the shipping was free…once I knew what I wanted I passed them on to a good friend…but I must say I really do love every single one of those Berdoues…and the bottles!!! Yikes!!! they are so beautiful I want them all 🙂
http://www.fragrancex.com/products/_cid_perfume-am-lid_v-am-pid_73628w__products.html
as you can see it is heavily discounted but unfortunately the two that you want are sold out …but I would keep checking!
and bigelow chemists gives you ten dollars off your first order when you sign up for email…and they have the entire collection….
Ooh thanks for the info. Now I just have to wait until I’ve moved and have a job 🙂
Yuck. Hope your day gets much better.
Thanks 🙂
Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile Edt.I smell like my garden today after buckets of rain this weekend.Marigolds and green wet foliage with a touch of buttery iris.Sorry about everyones’ cold snap,we actually had a normal summers’ day today!Hope everyone has a great week!Ellen made me LOL today so we’re off to a great start!X
That all sounds so nice and comforting compared to our cold weather. It made me feel a little warmer reading that.
I really need to try that perfume.
I’m dreading the end of summer which is still a long way away…but still!Interesting to find out Francis Kurkdjian had a hand in this fragrance,I never knew!
I can *almost* remember summer, and smell it just after a passing rain shower!
Haha! It’s coming your way Marjorie Rose,it’s coming…The days are already slightly shorter here.X
It’s true. I can see green leaf tips of bulbs poking through the ice and snow, and my hellebores are already blooming.
Just sniffed this for the first time last Friday – both the edt and the parfum. So incredibly beautiful.
It is a class act perfume.I felt slightly underdressed in my jeans and t-shirt today.Haha!
Beautiful scent! Smelling good 😉
Thank you!I sure do!
Dior Homme for me today.
I was perusing the Ann Flipo list and I have 3 options for Friday, although one is a Miss Boucheron mini which I don’t love.
Today I’m fending off winter with some AG Songes body oil and a spritz of DelRae Wit.
Wit is so cheerful, isn’t it?
Very. It’s helping me keep my wits(????) about me after some interactions with some rather difficult types today-that’s putting it nicely.
I also read through the list and don’t have a single one of hers, which should tell me something… and of the ones listed that I’ve tried, I hate ’em all!
I dislike most of them as well.
The 2 I have of hers I love: Barbara Bui and Sonia Rykiel Woman, which are similar. In fact, I could theoretically live in BB all winter.
Yay for BB Le Parfum 🙂
I’m still going through my recently bought samples and wearing PHI Une Rose de Kandahar for the first time. I had never looked at the notes, so I was surprised by how sweet it is – this golden rose-apricot jam strikes me as a pretty atypical Tauer. It is lovely.
It smells like the color of the perfume itself!Love Phi,and you smell fabulous!x
I see your face! How lovely.
OOO! I was scent twins with you yesterday! I am addicted to it…I guess it stands to reason given my proclivity for sweets 🙂
but my nose is also picking up the spices too , including ginger which gives it this gingerbread aura…mmmmm….now I want something sweet 🙂
I get tons of sweet nuttiness and hay in PHI. And agree, there’s a spicy, warm base (which I feel helps identify it as a Tauer).
Ironically I have always been afraid of the Tauers because some have discussed that base as not working for them…a long time ago I tried Zeta and that one did not work for me…so I have put off sampling Tauers…but my fragrant fairy knew EXACTLY which one to send me….love it 🙂
Must look out for hay!
Annikky, the hay is probably the tobacco playing tricks on my nose, and I catch it more from a distance than when I stick my nose right to my wrist.
I do get spices as well, something like ginger and saffron with honey – none of it is listed in the notes, though.
Honey!!! yes ! I get that too.
One of my favorites! You smell wonderful????
Thank you!
Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her. Not Anne Flipo, but since I only have two of her fragrances, I’ll save them till Friday and then decide which to wear.
Ugh. We are going from record low temps to record high temps this week and I’m not prepared to have the air conditioner on after having the central heat + space heaters going full blast. I’m not able to decide what perfume to wear (much less clothes!) since it feels and looks cold outside but is actually getting quite warm. For the moment, I’m wearing 28 La Pausa since I can easily change my mind if it doesn’t work.
The weather is wacky. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact I was sweating two days ago and today I’ve actually had to turn my central heat on. No happy medium any more. Hoping it levels a bit- it complicates scent choices for sure ????
Yesterday we were below zero, our current temperature is 16F, and we’re supposed to be in the mid-60s by Friday. How am I supposed to deal with that, I ask??
We’re kind of the same here in South Texas, with hard freezes over the weekend (that’s rare here, but welcome as it kills off so many bugs!) and forecast for 80 on Friday!! Just when I got happy to be wearing some of my nice cashmere sweaters!
Oh yes, let’s be rid of some of those Texas bugs… I know that’s one thing my sister does NOT miss about Texas! Her husband was transferred from Ft Hood to Ft Drum in upstate NY, and now they’ve got 20″ of snow on the ground. From incessant heat to Land of the Big Snows!
It hasn’t been all that cool here, but it rocketed up to 80 yesterday. This is January?!?
We were in the low twenties the other day and now they’re predicting as high as 85f on Wednesday. I don’t suppose we will actually hit more than about 82, but still…I’m accustomed to Texas weather jerking me around but this is a bit much.
It’s really cold and I think I’m actually smelling the “goat fur” in New Sibet 😉 . The earthy, leathery , iris is enveloping , like being under a shag rug.
I need to get a sample of that next time I’m at Twisted Lily. I tried it in skin and really liked it but it was overpowered by other stuff I was trying. From what I remember it smelled like cozy horse stable and very un-Slumberhouse-like.
Yes- stable with some flower. I have Pear and Olive and a decant of Kiste, which are more gourmand. Next time I’m at Twisted Lily, I’ll explore the rest of the line. I think I sniffed it my very first time there and I just wasn’t ready for it.
Another Monday! How time is flying!
I have just one Anne Flipo, which I’ll wear on Friday; my expectations are not high but we shall see. For Mon-Thu I am running through the Anatole Lebreton sample pack I got last year. SOTD today is “Bois Lumière” which on me is all about the honey and beeswax, with a floral background. It reminds me a bit of .vero.profumo “Onda” EDP, although I don’t have Onda to hand and suspect a side-by-side would highlight the differences as much as the similarities.
Bois Lumière notes are: juniper, clary sage, mandarin orange, balsam fir, honey, rose, carnation, immortelle, beeswax, atlas cedar and benzoin.
Wearing Isabey Lys Noir from a bottle I bought last week. I had sampled this at Jovoy and they sent me home with a sample. I was worried the sample they gave me was Perle de Lys Noir and think I may be right. Luckily enjoying this anyway!
Wow, what a weekend! Glad it’s over.
We’ve had a cool snap here. I woke up this morning and it as 51F in my house. Not surprisingly, my house was still in AC mode because it was over 80F 2 days ago ????
So.
The weather calls for something that I don’t often get to wear, and that would be a decant from a lovely NSTer of Cuir de Russia. The more I wear this, the more I like it. It seems to have an ambivilance that I find attractive- it’s austerely cool and at the same time embracinlgly warm. Mmmm. It’s a good one.
Stay warm, stay safe, and smell good ✌????
You smell great…and can you please send some of your weather my way? ( 5 below for me this morning 🙁 !!!)
I’m wafting the weather and some CdR your way! -5 is absolutely horrendous! Wrap yourself up in a warm snuggly scent and a soft blanket, hunker down, and hone your hibernation skills ????
A very good friend of mine says my spirit animal is a bear because in the cold weather all I want to do is stay in my “bed cave” underneath layers and layers and hibernate 🙂
Boo to fickle weather, but you smell wonderful!
Histoires de Parfums Rosam today
Dzing! today. I am trying to motivate myself to leave the house and go to the writing session I mean to attend, but I just want to go back to bed! And the cat wants me to do that, too. Ah, responsibility . . .
I wish my cat would let me lay about in bed! Instead, around my usual rising time, if I’m not up, he runs upstairs to proclaim, loudly, that I’m not yet out of bed! He is quite persistent, even if I try to squirt him with the spraybottle on the bedside table. Grumble, grumble.
I never had luck “training” cats with a spray bottle.
I’ve determined that it has taught him what is “wrong,” but it hasn’t trained him to *care* that he’s breaking the rules. 🙂
You smell great!
I’m wearing some sprays from a small sample I have of Eau d’italia Au Lac, and finding it kind of sweet and thin and cloying. It’ll get washed off, I hope, when I take my shower and then I’ll have to pick something else for the rest of the day.
That brought back a similar memory!
I wore Au Coeur du Désert last night and it was so good I am going with L’Air du Désert Marocain today. It is dark and rainy here but fortunately not too cold.
ditto on the weather–it makes it so difficult for me to get up when it’s like this here in CA…I’ve (pathetically) become so used to it almost always being sunny that when it’s dark and grey outside I always feel so exhausted and almost incapable of pulling myself out of bed.
(Orris & Sandalwood today.)
I sampled ACdD yesterday and thought it was just beautiful. I have to do a side by side with LAdDM. I think the new one may be easier (for me) to wear.
Had fun reading answers to Saturday’s poll. We are all in such different places with our perfume journey.
Today I’m wearing Sous le toit de Paris, working from home.. kind of, and excited to make a new cookie recipe shortly.
I’m baking through Dorie Greenspan’s new Cookies book this year with the goal of baking one recipe a week.
My colleagues will either thank me or hate me 🙂
Today’s recipe: They Could be Breakfast Cookies Cookies
Oh, I was wondering about that book! But I didn’t let myself buy a copy as it would work against my goals of leaning up this year. Nice of you to share with your coworkers!
I love baking but never do it much since my husband won’t eat any of it-he eats almost no sugar, so it would be all on me to finish everything off.
I’m sure your colleagues will be thrilled!
My husband’s issue is that he’s extremely picky with his sweets so I end up giving to friends, neighbors, doormen and colleagues. Once in a while I’ll make something he really likes and then it’s gone way to quickly.
Well, we didn’t wash away yesterday, though we did have to do some trenching to direct water away from the house. We celebrated making it through the worst of it with big glasses of mulled wine last night. Today I’m in Mechant Loup and wondering, as always, why I don’t wear it more often. It’s one of my favorite L’Artisans.
Love ML!
Wow, that sounds threatening, glad it turned out ok
So glad you weren’t flooded! I’ll be having some mulled wine tonight–woot.
Glad to hear you made it through ok.
Glad to hear that you were high enough to stay dry.
I LOVE DK Woman!
I’m wearing Narciso EDP (white bottle), a happily received Christmas present.
Oh, yay! Santa did well.
I’m almost ready for bottle #2.
I like it but don’t love it, but surprised it did not do better. Almost never see it mentioned here!
It’s a rare cloudy gray day here in the desert, so I put on some of D.S. & Durga’s Pale Grey Mountain, Black Lake. I ordered a decant of this last summer, as I am a sucker for anything that claims to smell rocky and mossy and mountainous (RIP Aesop’s Mystra). When I tried this in the summer heat it was terrible – a strange sweet floral note dominated and it just smelled off. I tried it again on a gloomy, wet day and it was much better – the floral note receded to the background. Wet days are few where I live, so I suspect my decant will last a loooong time . . .
I should try that since It rains most days where I live, or so it seems.
You should! I’ve tried a few D.S. & Durga scents and none quite worked for me, but I think they are good quality. The pricing on the HYLNDS series is a bit aspirational, though.
It’s been abnormally gray in southern AZ recently–lots of thin clouds in the afternoon.
“Snow” day in Portland today (#5, if you’re keeping track). The roads around my place are fine, but elsewhere there’s a sheet of 1/2 inch ice coating the world. I think I’ll go adventuring today–take an “urban hike” with my camera and see what there is to be seen. I’m sick of being stuck in the house! After all the talk of PHI above, I think it will be my trusty companion in the journey.
Oh, and I’m drinking my coffee with some of Kevin’s fig syrup as the sweetener this morning, as an experiment. It’s pretty tasty! I think I put in more than I needed to, but it adds a nice sweet flavoring.
That sounds fun!! I live in northern CA (Humboldt County) and I love going for rainy wintery outdoor excursions even if the weather is inclement – I feel like this is what makes us able to live in these places 😉 Have fun taking pics!
Thanks! I would think it is especially wonderful up in Humboldt Co., as you can enjoy it in relative solitude when the weather is muckier. I’ve hiked through parts of the redwoods in spring in the rain, and the smell of the woods was in-cred-i-ble!
Yes!! It’s amazing. I love Bois des Iles for a wet winter hike too – spring and winter are both rainy here (and summer and fall too…) One of those hikes is where I fell in love with it! Perfume and weather is so fun.
Jealous! Love Humboldt County. So beautiful
SOTD = Cuir Beluga
Cold here and there’s still snow on the ground. While they are very different, I tend to use Coromandel for similar occasionss.
Turning to this Friday’s project, I have Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her which I think qualifies; however, I don’t feel like wearing it. I may wear (cazaubon, cover your eyes and nose) Lavieestbelle. I only have a sample and I know its exact location.
I so love Cuir Beluga! It’s delicious! You smell great.
I also love La Vie Est Belle. My mom got it for me for xmas a few years back, unsniffed, and though sometimes it’s too sweet, I adore it 🙂 She likes it too, so I got her a bottle this year!
I agree on both counts!
🙂
Thank you. LVEB could satisfy the LOUD part of lasr week’s project!
I wore it last week. It came in second place behind FLOWERBOMB!
????????
You smell great. Agree about Coromandel- I think it’s a 3 season perfume, but perhaps Cuir Beluga could work in the summer after the sun goes down….
Cuirn eluga is a great evening scent! Usually though I can only wear one perfume during the weekday so i stay committed to my SOTD throughout the day.
OMG…ROTFL cause it took me a while to figure out what scent you might be wearing on Friday (I cheated , thanks to Emily!)….
Shhhhh, not too loud….
I might go with L’Artisan Ananas Fizz,or MyQueen for Friday. There’s always the new Coach….choices!!
I treasure my classic Coach bags. I haven’t pursued any Coach frags after the leather series.
The last one they did I got that initial fruity/floral/oodles of musk and an iso-e superblast vibe from….but not!!What a surprise fresh fun and yes fruity perfume!Makes me want to jump into an 1800’s coach myself and take a trip through the valleys and forests! On a warm spring day.
Hello everyone!
I live about 15 minutes walk from work, and it’s usually quite pleasant – today the rain was going sideways, my umbrella was way too tiny, and I was carrying way too many things. It was in my top 5 worst walks to work! However, my SOTD, Ormonde Jayne Ta’if, is making up for it. I’m doing an OJ week this week – yesterday was Tolu! I just love this house 🙂
Wishing everyone warm and cozy thoughts!
Oh, you smell fantastic! I have found Ta’if to be pretty perfect in nearly every kind of weather. Hope the walk home is better!
Thank you, Marjorie!! The rain has stopped and I’ll ask my sweetie for a ride home – I’m just finally drying out 🙂
What a beauty Taif is!- it’s one of the FB’s I’m hoping to get this year. I think there’s 7 or 8 on my list.. Choices choices!
It’s just gorgeous!! I love OJ. I have a FB of OJ Woman, and the little travel sprays of many of her scents, and 5ml decants of the others! I may have ordered the Bespoke London Tasting Menu that was still on their site from xmas (though I see today it’s been taken down) when I was in the throes of love of the Tolu I was wearing yesterday…
Hey, you just listed my 3 faves (and FBs) from the line! I’ve never had a scent twin before. . . 🙂
If you can be patient, OJ has done a free shipping deal for Black Friday most years in the past several. Might be worth the savings, if you can survive off of samples and decants for a while.
Spritz and dash this morning, I’m sampling Phaedon Tabac Rouge. I liked the start but now it’s turned sweetish/synthetic. Off to chip the ice off my driveway, I have places to go!
Be careful!
Vetiver Tonka for me today. The Vetiver post reminded me that I haven’t worn this lately and I loooovvvve it so.
You smell great!
Morning, good morning, very good morning. Yesterday’s return to work was not nearly as horrible as it might have been, but my goodness! my office is a mess! I obviously pranced out the door before Christmas with never a backward glance at the piles of paper sliding everywhere. This morning I will undertake a Great Tidy, and for, ohhh, fully six days, my desk will be pristine and organised. I’m spending a lot of today with one of the students who gives me real joy–we’re working on her data chapters at the moment, and I want to wear a gorgeous scent, so I’ve chosen Ambre Narguile. It’s such a cool summer that this isn’t an alarming choice, and anyway, even it were twice as hot (40 degrees? Ack!) it would still make me happy.
I’m fighting with myself not to pootle off to World and buy myself a little green treat. I need nothing, but I’m having a little yearn. I’m repeating a little mantra: I need NO treats. I NEED no treats. I need no TREATS…it’s not working. I want for nothing, but still I want. Oh dear.
You just captured every Perfumista’s greatest predicament:”I want for nothing, but still I want”.Perfect!
Agree!
Wait for me! I want to come
I promise!
PR Lady Million today! I’m one of the five who really liked this one, lol.
Ha — it sold like gangbusters so the group could not be that small!
SotD = Barbara Bui Le Parfum
Yay! I get to play along with Anne Flipo week. I love her name. We have several Anne’s in my family, and Flipo is simply marvelous. Flipo! Flipo! Flipo! I love saying it.
This is a new scent for me. I bought the economical “30 ml sample size” last year, very pretty bottle, too. Haven’t spent much time with it yet, today’s the day.
Le Parfum started out gently sweet and a bit powdery. As I type the florals are emerging. Very nice, no sharpness or raspy edges. If Le Parfum wears well today I may wear it all week.
Thank you to ringthing who suggested Le Parfum when I expressed an interest in an easy-to-wear incense last November, and to others here at NST who have expressed their love for this scent as well. I’m in good company in this fragrance.
You know I think you smell marvelous???? And I like her name, too. It sort of has the same effect as “Peppa Pig” does on me.
I hope BB gets some well-deserved air time at NST this week.
Peppa Pig is adorable. 🙂
I am lying in my tent under a big fir tree and it is already hot here in Central Otago. Will be swimming in the river later. Forgot my perfume so will pick some wild thyme when I walk the dogs. Hurray for life!
That sounds absolutely heavenly!
Cuir d’Ange for me today. We had a cold snap over the weekend but it’s back up in the 60s today. Heard on the radio this morning, as Calypso mentioned above, that we might be back up to 80 by the end of the week. ugh. I don’t want 80 degree weather in January.
Gosh, I do! (I mean, I can see why I shouldn’t, but I do)
Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile for me today.
Yayayaay!!Scent-twin!!????????
Angel Muse today, because my discounted bottle arrived!
Thankful that I got up in time to finish my morning ablutions (overdue shower and shampoo) before the building turned off water to all bathrooms. Still not back on. At least water is on in the kitchen. Husband is not happy…he has a cold and stayed in bed too long. He wants that hot shower!
He who sleeps in… has to wait for the hot shower. 🙂
Hope it’s back on soon.
Just came back on. Yep, that’s what he gets for staying in bed too long….
cold, rainy and miserable, but had a gr8 catch up with a friend (child free, a rare luxury these days) I bought a lovely navy wool cloche hat, very 1920’s, does anyone remember ‘The House of Elliot’, I just need the bob now, to complete the Edi look! (I think it was Edi anyway). I talked my friend into buying a gorgeous grey cashmere checked scarf too, between us we saved £40 I think. Sales really cheer up a grey day, and friends even more so.
Tried No. 5 L’eau, I really liked it but faded so quickly, may try no 5 edt again soon.
kudos to going out child free!
So nice isn’t it?!
I remember House of Eliot! Vaguely, anyway.
L’Eau definitely isn’t long lasting, but it’s not too bad considering it’s really an EDC, right? It stays pretty nicely on fabric.
That was a fun show, and great clothes!
Yes, the clothes were gorgeous!, I watched it first time round with my mum and sister, and then binged on repeats when on maternity leave.
Ugly weather-related chain of events: southern house, 50’s built, equals no insulation. Constantly running heat equals 21% indoor humidity. Being housebound and bored I opened a reed diffuser bought at Christmastime, Antica Farmacista Champagne. Dryness and diffuser scent irritated my breathing.
All of which has lead to my Bois d’Argent seeming cloyingly sweet. Maybe after a late shower I’ll try something else. And lose the diffuser.
Oh, anybody else look closely at the sweater or jacket in the upper left of Robin’s picture? Sure looks cozy.
Hope you feel better and yes, that pink sweater sure does look cozy 😀
Sniffing two samples today. Mad et Len Fuego Flores is on one wrist and Hilde Soliani Una Tira L’Alta is on the other. I’m really liking both. The Una Tira L’Alta is predominantly (maybe all) cherry, so you have to like that note to appreciate it, and it’s a note that I really like.
SOTD is Tauerville Rose Flash.
I saw something amusing this morning as I was waiting for an appointment. A woman was walking her dog on the path that runs around the large park across the street. It was at the point directly in front of me that she apparently decided to multitask and began to also do an exaggerated high-step march and kick combination. It looked so ridiculous I thought she was actually doing a Ministry of Silly Walks impersonation!
I predict someone made some resolutions recently.
Sad to read that the drive-through redwood in California is gone, a victim of the storm. I remember that from an early 60s encyclopaedia (anyone else remember Childcraft?).
On a happier note, I’m enjoying the meticulous preparations for a full 18th century revival on the 20th – a royal family holding public offices and a cabinet of wealthy aristocrats appointed by the King, how fun! :^D
The image of that glorious tree lying on its side made me weepy. I hope a dendrochronology core is taken from it (if there isn’t one already) and that the rest of the wood can be made into something.
Said aristos are mighty lucky it *isn’t* the 18th Century, eh?
Ah, thanks for the news tip — I hadn’t heard. I’ve spent a lot of my life living and working among the sequoias, and it’s always An Event when one comes down.
Chiming in late, but I just had to say Happy Birthday to Jimmy Page! Sotd Gucci Rush.
Nice! Love Rush!
It always amazed me how Donna Karan perfumes smelled and looked like high quality niche perfumery, long before the “explosion” of niche brands. Estée Lauder group made wonderful work for Donna Karan, but the market wasn’t ready for that kind of fragrances. It was ready a few years later, and the group helped Tom Ford share his taste for deep, intriguing fragrances. I was happy to find in his Sahara Noir fragrance my beloved Black Cashmere.
Ps: when was Donna Karan’s Woman released? I’ve been looking for it in every airport in Europe for years and never seen it!
