It's John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's birthday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Robert Piguet Fracas. Tea at the moment is my own (equally loud) Earl Grey Extreme blend, made from Upton Extra Bergamot Earl Grey mixed with Upton China Imperial Lapsang Souchong.
Reminder: 1/6 will be Take it down a notch Friday — wear a perfume that has a bad reputation because people wore way too much of it back in the day. Go ahead and wear it lightly, or go loud and proud, you'll get points either way. Suggested by Bear.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the teapot napkin rings are $17 at Bombay in Canada.
Messe de Minuit today.
I like mixing Lapsang with Earl Grey too, but today it’s PG tips. Strong enough to get me up in the morning. And it makes me think of London hotels.
Tea cousins! And you smell great.
I am in Eau de Charlotte today and drinking Seven Peaks China green tea.
Love love those napkin rings!!!
I made a small list of perfumes that I am embarrassed I haven’t tried yet. One is Iris Silver Mist, and the other, is Chamade. I know I know…good grief. Maybe that could be a future community project.
Both are worth smelling! 🙂
I have not sampled those either so don’t feel so bad.
Great project idea! I love Chamade. And you smell lovely today.. The drydown on that AG is cozy.
I think that would be a great community project!
Robin, what do you think?
If the project is to smell something you really ought to have already smelled, I think the only issue is access — I am assuming you have not smelled ISM because you haven’t got any! So it would require more advance planning than many of these projects.
probably a bit too complicated. Though Jahanob had a good twist below.
You are not alone my dear- I join you in the first one, and like you am
curious now and will sample it this year!! There are just so many lovelies out rhere. I did purchase a decant of Chamade, Hoping for the right ‘time’ to wear it! Cheers!
Until then I do love Iris Nazarena!!
ah..another one I haven’t tried
IN is worth trying! I have a decant from last split 🙂
I also, have not tried either of those.
EdC is so pretty and inoffensive. Both Chamade and ISM are beautiful and completely different. Lovely choices for sampling.
I haven’t tried Chamade. Nor have I tried… Mitsouko. Now I am embarrassed!
I have tried Mitsouko! It is very lovely and takes a certain woman to wear it
Great idea!!
That is a cool idea, maybe twist it a bit with “GO FIND A PERFUME YOU HAVE NOT SMELLED BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU’LL HATE IT BUT MAYBE NOT”.Or is that a bit too complicated?Lol
You have two very wonderful experiences in your future! 🙂
I’m embarrassed that I’ve never tried Bal a Versailles, but a vintage sample found its way into my most recent TPC order.
Not loud, though very proudly wearing L’Impact Pour un Homme by Caron. I’m on the last bits of Earl Grey Fleurs, which is actually quite nice, but not extreme enough.
Love your SOTD, and your blend sounds great.
The Upton Extra Bergamot is nice to have around to amp up any Earl Grey that is too wimpy for you, although it might eat up the Fleurs part. I have some of the Aftelier Bergamot food spray and I’ve used that too. If she would make a “tea” spray and a “caffeine” spray I could stop buying tea and just drink flavored water 😉
I’m going to add some of my Sweet Golden Grey with the last of my Fleurs. The problem is I can’t taste any flowers in it. Damman has some good Earl Greys but this one is just a tad bland. I’m going to look into the Upton Earl Grey.
🙂 on your flavoured water, it reminds me of the great cartoon Asterix in Britain, where all the Britons drink warm water, with the occasional cloud of milk.
“Une tasse d’eau chaude avec un nuage de lait je vous prie.” Hee-hee, I hadn’t thought of Asterix in a long time. 🙂
It’s my only Astérix that I’ve got in French. My brother has all the original Goscinny ones in Dutch translation, and whenever I would be sick as a child I got the whole pile and reread them. I loved being ill when I was young 😉
I’m wearing Aromatics Elixir, quite lightly applied, because I am almost at the end of my mini. Time to buy a full bottle.
Is it possible to lightly apply that one? I have a sample of it and am under the impression that one drop has a plutonium half life. I only wear it when I’m alone.
Let me put it this way – as I was spraying, it sort of spluttered on and I applied a lot less than when I had a fuller mini. At this point, four hours after application, I can barely smell it. Maybe I’m so used to applying more that I can’t smell how strong it is. Anyway, I have an office separate from my staff so no one has complained yet. And believe me, I hear it when there is a scent someone would prefer I not wear.
Yum!
I love AE and will be getting at least a decant this year. You smell great!
Passage d’Enfer today. I’ve been alternating this one with another Olivia Giacobetti creation, IUNX L’Ether. They smell nearly identical. Maybe the latter is a little smoother. No matter: just having fun with perfume!
Again, wishing for US distribution of IUNX!
French Lime Blossom
Is that a Jo Malone one? Nice!
yes 🙂
Sounds refreshing!
It is! I have Johanob to thank for inspiring me to wear this one today.
Oh yay!!Hehe! And you do smell fabulous!xo
You smell lovely. FLB can never be loud- do you layer other perfumes with it?
Not loud at all but I sprayed lavishly and sheepishly admit that I made a 10ml decant of it to which I added numerous drops of Eden Botanicals double distilled vetiver which amps it up a bit.
Jo Malone makes such pretty fragrances. You smell great!
Thank you for yesterday’s link to the Vanille Insensee, I see a full bottle in my future????
Oh you are quite welcome! I would not have wanted you to pay full price! I love Vanille Insensee and steal spritzes from a family member for whom I bought a full bottle.
I love this perfume, but linden for me is so much spring – early summer scent, that I just can’t wear my favorite French Lime Blossom in winter, no matter how mild it is here. But still, you smell great!
I like to mix things up, Undina! test out my spring/summer scents in the dead of winter and vice versa! I once wore Winter Woods in the high heat of summer and it smelled so good…the vanilla/amber was amped up.
Hey linden twin! I do think of it as a spring/summer scent but it’s totally working for me on this rainy day — it’s all plush, soft little pale-green billows (winter in California really is sort of spring, with all the new greenery that happens)!
You smell great , Robin! I had a mini Fracas Parfum which was rapidly evaporating so I recently dumped the bit that was left into a few ounces of unscented lotion which definitely helps take it down a notch and makes it wearable for me- it’s a contender for Friday.
I’m wearing Geisha Noire today which is warming in this cold, drizzly day.
That’s a really cool idea for using up perfume! Fracas should really work well with this, it’s so strong on it’s own.
It is strong which is why I never wore it. I used to think I didn’t like it until I tried Fracas shower cream which left a light veil of scent that was perfect. I’m hoping this has the same effect-I actually haven’t worn this lotion yet.
its so cold and drizzly! Before the rain I went for a morning jog in the dark before my husband went to work. The wind was so awful, I felt like I was instantly getting a head cold. But its all good now.
I can’t imagine going out to run in this weather, or running at all, for that matter, lol. Kudos to you for your motivation!
You totally WIN today! Bravo for getting out there!
Great idea, especially for samples that are ok, but not on the explore more list.
Perfect!
I love Fracas although, oddly, I’ve never owned or worn it. My sister used to wear it. So did a work colleague. She stopped wearing it because she got too many compliments I think. She became concerned it was too much. Even though I told her it never was, she stopped. I missed it.
I’ve never had the “problem” of too many compliments with anything I’ve worn, but I can see thinking that means that maybe it’s too much if that many people notice it.
Smelling like a head shop in Spiritual Sky’s Nag Champa. The scent itself didn’t have a bad reputation, but those who wore it did in certain quarters. 😉
You must wear it at the next meet up!!
Love nag champa
and since I long ago emptied my bottles of Giorgio, Poison, Chloe, etc. I might just go with a hefty dose of dark patchouli in order to participate on Friday…..thanks for the idea!
SOTD for me today is Vol de Nuit EDT – very powdery this morning, in the best possible way. Back to work … sigh.
Vol de Nuit is so pretty. You smell great, a perfect cloud of strength and comfort for back to work.
Beautiful!
You smell great!
Random samples of the day are CdG Amazingreen and DSH Chinchilla. Think I’ll go scrub Amazingreen –there seems to be something noxiously synthetic in there
It was not CdG’s best.
I am, however, really liking Chinchilla. I was a little afraid because it seemed a little urinous when I sniffed the sample vial but it’s lovely on my skin
Good then, 1 out of 2 isn’t bad.
I bought Chinchilla in the body cream and it smells so good with a little No 5 body oil. It may be my new comfort scent. I’ve been using “the mix” every night before bed.
First time wearing something since New Year’s day. I’ve been totally perfume-free for the holiday break. I’m in Feminite du Bois. I have only the last 10% of the bottle left, so I’m trying to finish it. I wore it so much a few years ago and the smell just takes me back to a better time instantly. Plus it’s so comforting in winter.
I wore Amouage Homage for New Year; it felt truly decadent in an “après nous le déluge” sort of way.
I was scentless for most of the break too! I was sick for a lot of it, but then I was lazy the rest.
Poison Christian Dior, EDT circa 1990.
Grape jelly flowers (jasmine, orange blossoms, tuberose) and cinnamon. Only sprayed my left hand, and this is big a$$ sillage-itude !! LOL
Carpe Diem. It is wonderful to be alive. 😀
YUM!!!
Ah, Poison! Such memories! You smell fabulous!!! I am suddenly picturing Joan Collins on Dallas, was it?
Dynasty – but six of one, half dozen of the other. LOL. 😉
I was mesmerized by Alexis Carrington-Colby as a boy…my mom actually allowed me to watch it!That fight that ended in the swimming pool…80’s tv were the best.
The older, the better when it comes to Poison. You smell like my college years, and I mean that as a compliment!
Yum!
MANNN, I used to hate Poison, back in the days when everybody was wearing six sprays too many.
I’ve changed my mind now. 🙂
“six sprays too many”….hmm, yeah, that would have been me 🙁
I am wearing the tiniest drop of La Rose Angel and I feel like I am wearing the olfactory equivalent of the Muppets’ Sweetums if he were neon pink. I had forgotten I had this mini until I cleaned out my perfume cabinet on New Year’s Day. Yowza.
S(ip)otD is a mug of roasted barley tea. Delicious.
Neon pink Sweetums!! Hilarious.
I second that! It’s quite a mental picture, no?
😀
Gres Cabochard.
Robin, what happened to Donatella?
Oh, she is here now!
Yes, already confessed there. 🙂 Thanks.
Twin! You smell great.
Thanks! So do you. 😉
z-14 today, very pleasant
Happy Tuesday, all, and happy birthday Tolkien! I gave myself a serious case of olfactory fatigue yesterday, trying to make a dent in my sample basket. I found a few new scents to enjoy in the process, but after scrubbing off Ambre Nuit and Baume de Doge (for the same reason — IT’S LOG! IT’S LOG! IT’S BIG IT’S HEAVY IT’S WOOD!) I needed a nice, unscented evening. Today I’m in Demeter Linden, because it’s just lovely, and gentle, and because I’m convinced it’s what Tolkien’s elves smelled like. 🙂
Oh we are scent cousins as I am also in linden (a/k/a French lime blossom)
Very clever Isabelle! I agree with you!! We just finished the LoTR series last nite (a fitting tribute had we known of his bday)!
Eau di doge gave me the same reaction initially, bit I have grown to like it now that I enjoy frankincense so much, especially for the holidays. (Funny I just wore IT last nite as well, having a small sample left)WEIRD???
We have a Linden tree out front that smells heavenly in early summer, so you do too!! Enjoy!!
Ok so where is Donatella?? I have some confessions to absolve!
IT’S LOG, LOG! / IT’S BETTER THAN BAD, IT’S GOOD!
OMG, Isabella!!! I would’ve just done a spit take if I were drinking something. I can’t tell you how relieved I am to know I’m not the only person to know–and still remember–Log!
I was thinking about the Elves, too, wondering what they would wear. Then I figured they wouldn’t wear anything; they’d just naturally smell like trees and fresh air. ????
I am a floating cloud of pretty pink today in MFK A La Rose. Enabler husband got me a sampler set for Christmas, and I bet this is the one I drain first!
Such a perfect description. I had sample of the body cream which you can ask him to get you for Valentine’s Day 😉 .
Jeux de Peau today. It is one of the few Lutens that I intend to keep. Another one is Borneo 1834, and Cherqui is undecided; the rest are going (or gone)
Hi, Natalya, did you ask me about the Kerosene sample set recently? If yes, then I got mine from IndieScents when they had free shipping. I’m not sure if it’s an official set, but you get all twelwe scents in decent spray vials (or, alternatively, can choose 6 for half the price).
If it wasn’t you, I’m sorry!
Yes yes, it was me! Thank you for the info! What did you like the best so far?
Copper Skies!
Yes! I like it too!
Baptême du Feu, which is a nice spicy gingerbread that I think has some mildly pine-y (though this might be me mistranslating the sharpness of the gunpowder) masculine undertones. It doesn’t seem like there was much excitement over this one, but I think it’s lovely.
I like it too. In fact, I have been contemplating a small decant.
Me too, we should do this for split meet.
Wearing the loud YSL Opium. 2 sprays and plenty of coffee are more than enough to keep me awake in this very rainy and busy morning.
That might be my Friday choice 🙂
I’m wearing Iris Cendre – every January, I have this urge to pare back and streamline everything. It’ll not last, but this is where I am at the moment.
I’m there with you on paring back. I had an absolutely brutal ( in a good way) organizer come and go through my closets with me a few years ago because I didn’t know where to begin. A visit from him again may be worth the investment to get me back in track.
I won’t show him the perfumes, which are new since then 🙂 .
I did a pretty thorough clean-out myself over this weekend and immediately felt better. I still need to go through my beauty items (I have a lot, I hoard cleansers) and yes, perfume.
You smell lovely.
Doing a purge of unwanted things seems like a good way to start off the new year.
Thank you! And yes, it feels good.
Me as well. Finally got around to posting a bunch of things on Ebay; and I am slowly making my way thru *every* closet, drawer, and cabinet in the house. That’ll be a long project, I think, but so far have done the coat closet, guest room, two bathrooms; and started on the kitchen. Oh my, so many kitchen gadgets…
I’m not a huge Kondo fan, but one thing I did find useful in her book was to do the big tidying by category rather than location. This might not be relevant for everyone, but I have books, perfume, clothes and makeup everywhere, and it really helps to see it all together and realise how much stuff you have.
There must be something to “winter cleaning”. I Marie Kondo’d my closet and shoes (having already done this in the summer, I was surprised to fill up two bags to donate!), I categorized my perfumes and samples in an Excel doc after accidentally ordering a sample I already have (oops), and I cleaned out the dreaded hall closet while putting xmas decorations away. I even labeled my spices in the spice drawer. Feels so good to start fresh – glad it wasn’t just me!!
Wow, this is impressive! I’venever done it as thoroughly, but I defiitely feel the need for a “deep clean” in January.
Boy Chanel is probably the polar opposite of the community project, but it was in my purse. I had to race out the door to an appointment. It’s dreary and rainy, but I can imagine it’s mid May.
What do you think of Boy? I used up the sample but was not “wowed”
I agree that it’s not a wow, but it’s in the ” no brainer” perfume category for me. I didn’t think much of it at first spray because of the lavender, but the subdued floral that follows is just “versatile”.
I feel the same way.
It fits the no brainer perfume bill but at that price..ouch…
True. I got some generous manufacturer’s samples when it was first released. I have considered purchasing it using a GC , since over time, I have learned some elements of the “hajusuuri” method of fragrance financing and it could be practically free 😉 .
In another Atelier today: Orange Sanguine. I usually wear this one in the summer, it is so refreshing.
Nice!!! There is a 6.8 oz bottle floating around in my house which we all share and also use to decant when giving gifts to others…you smell great and I think OS can be worn year round…might just wear that one tomorrow 🙂
Atelier does make some seriously huge bottles! I had almost forgotten how good this one is.☀️
Iris Nazarena today.
Now I’m off for a lesson of French.
You smell wonderful.
Are you learning French for any particular reason?
Shh! It’s a se-cret 😉
Nice!On my list for this year as well:French Lessons.Adieu!
I accidentally put on way too much Fracas on Saturday and still didn’t feel overwhelmed… I hope I can say the same for the people around me! SOTD is Jolie Madame.
Yum, Jolie Madame is so good.
It’s beautiful here this morning but we will be too warm later today and then chilly tomorrow. We will continue the leaf raking project today, hopefully without the “assistance” of the gusty wind we had yesterday. The cats were enough help.
I’m giving the decants I packed a dissatisfied once-over and will probably wear Pan since it’s strong enough that I will be able to smell it through my allergies and is the best fit for the weather. Why didn’t I pack Tabac Tabou? It’s perfect for these golden days.
It is dismal gray rain here today, and cold, so envy your leaf raking weather.
First work day of the new year and I’m smelling like the boss that I am in 31 Rue Cambon. Bring it, 2017!
Go!
You smell fab!
Hello! Back to work on this drizzly, cold day. I had a somewhat relaxing week and a half “off” (on call, but not really 😉 ) from work. Talk about a lousy day to go back. It was all dark and gross out this morning and it’s only gotten worse – more rain!
I hope all the NSTers had fun filled holidays. I was rather sick most of the time with a sinus cold and now I’m getting over some sort of weird stomach bug, but I did have a really nice time despite all that. Having that big of a break was really needed. For the first time since the hubs and I have been together we spend NYE alone in the house. It was a bit surreal to me that we didn’t have plans with friends, but we didn’t mind. We played board games, drank cocktails and then promptly went to bed after midnight.
I didn’t get any perfume for xmas, but I was spoiled rotten otherwise so I can’t complain. I also chopped off all my hair. I love it, but now I’m constantly cold! I need to invest in a lot of scarves and hats now.
I’m in Lyric Woman today and might be for the rest of the week since it’s only going to get colder out.
It’s miserable here too (South East England) Lyric sounds like a great choice for today and the rest of the week!
It’s a very cozy scent to me so the colder the weather, the cozier the scent needs to be.
i think everyone hear was sick..hope you are feeling good in Lyric
Jenkr, I went for a pixie in September and after I did it, I thought, why didn’t I wait for the summer? I’ve taken to wearing a scarf and that helps 🙂
Thank you for the inspiration: I didn’t know what to wear today but after reading your comment this morning I decided to go with Lyric – and it brightens the cold rainy day. Thank you Jenkr!
You smell exquisite. Chopping off your hair is a fun experience; everyone should do it once!
I got the stomach bug about a week ago and now I feel like it’s turning into a cold. I put on some Aftelier Chocolate saffron body oil because my skin is dry and it has a very light scent.
Volutes edt today, and drinking Fortnum & mason Christmas spice tea with lots of milk, spices, tangerine peel & cocoa nibs, it’s a really good one, perfect for cosy winter afternoons at home, lovely accompaniment to a piece of Tea loaf with butter. (the tea caddy is really pretty too).
You smell perfect! And your tea sounds great too.
Back to work, waaaaaaah! And the weather is chilly and drippy here, too.
SOTD is SP Parfums Violet Moss. LT raved about the dry-down in this one; guess I’ll be finding out in a while 🙂 I certainly love the dry-down in his Sunmilkflowers. This scent went on quite the journey to get here; it left Germany at the end of November, and reached California just before New Years! DHL did the European leg of the journey efficiently, but then it got lost (and wasn’t ever scanned) somewhere in the USPS system. We’d given it up for lost, but it finally arrived, unharmed.
So far I’m getting slightly vintage-y violet. Nice.
Don’t even get me started on the USPS!!!! You are lucky you got your package!!! Over the summer this year four of my packages were lost/misdelivered…only three made it to me eventually 🙁
Congratulations on your happy ending with the USPS. I can think of four times in the past couple years when perfume packages were delayed as well as a couple samples that never arrived from across the country or overseas. But I don’t give up hope easily. I sent out a swapmeet package that took an entire month to reach it’s destination. That was a nail-biter.
Small dabs of Galup for me today. For some reason I’ve been extra sensitive to scent lately that I can’t handle full on sprays of anything.
I like those table napkin rings too. Do people really use those things still?
Somebody must! I keep meaning to switch from paper back to cloth, but then I never do.
Yes!I love napkin rings,and have a “tiny” collection…wooden/copper/beaded….
I use cloth napkins, but just let them flop about, un-ringed.
Checking in from work wearing Allure. This perfume just lasts and lasts on me. I really have no reason to reapply after lunch, but I probably will anyway.
Sotd = Eau des Merveilles again, perfect while feeling muzzy-headed after a busy Monday and a restless sleep last night.
Happy Tuesday, NST, let’s make it terrific.
????Victoria over at BdJ has a post on perfumes that glow and EdM definitely fits the bill for me.
Oooh, thank you for the tip. I love Victoria’s writing. So happy to see Muguet Porcelaine mentioned in her post. I also think Jour d’Hermes is radiant.
SOTD is Mon Precieux Nectar. It was calling my name this morning.
Love those napkin rings. I have a small and modest teapot collection.
Happy Tuesday/Monday for all those who had yesterday off!
Mon Precieux Nectar is wonderful. You smell lovely.
You’ve inspired me to set out my decant so I will remember to wear it this evening.
It is an effort to make myself wear something different. I tend to make my daily scent choice on the fly. Having so many choices doesn’t make my mornings easier. 🙂
I almost sprayed that one. we could of been twins. oh well
Next time I wear MPN, I’ll send you a mental note! ????
On the drive home from Christchurch we stopped at the Orari domain to let the dogs run around. Like most South Island domains it was simply a grazed paddock sheltered by mature trees…in this case lime ( linden) trees in full flower. I picked some and they are now drying on the table and will be used for tisane. My childhood home was surrounded by lime trees and it is always the smell of Christmas for me. Morning here…just sprayed Jo Malone Nutmeg and Ginger and am dipping into a few bedside John Berger books. What a great writer.
Nice….everything! and happy new year , kanuka!
Berger was marvelous. We were lucky to have him so long.
It’s cold, wet and rainy here and I am in Shalimar Ode a la Vanille. Woke up later than I wanted and I am out of sorts today.
I’m wearing Wood Sage and Sea Salt. It’s pouring here, and I wanted something to match the dampness. It’s very comforting to me.
Lovely.
I second that.
I’ve never tried wearing it in colder weather but if it keeps raining, I might try it since I like your idea of “matching” it to the water outside.
Happy New Year guys! *blows noisemaker*
1) Crappy, CRAPPY commute today (missed two connections so the commute was 2 bloody hours) and THEN just in time for a company meeting, with speakers who mumbled and a crap sound system.
2) Jo Malone Incense & Cedrat, layered with Lord of Misrule shower gel. At least I smell good.
You smell great! This may be my year to explore Jo Malone in depth. Such wonderful scents, and 30 ml bottles make me happy.
My advice? If you like soap and are willing to wait to see coupon codes on retailmenot then hold out before you buy anything…I usually check to see if there are any coupon codes that don’t require a minimum purchase…then I will buy a soap and get a travel spray of whatever is being offered for free…also , the shipping is free. So for twenty dollars you get a great soap and 9ml of a travel spray…this is how I have acquired 8 different Jo Malones and I like the small size travel sprays….just a suggestion 🙂
code WISH gives you a 9ml travel spray of Basil, Lime and Mandarin with any purchase today 🙂
Ooh, that’s genius. Thanks for the tip.
*takes notes* Thank you!
My pleasure! and the soaps make great gifts too! I have even put them in Easter baskets 🙂
Oh my, the challenge this week will be amazing, but I won’t be able to participate during the daytime as I could clear out the gym 150 yards before I get there! 🙂
You will have to participate in spirit!
I’m finally trying Amaranthine, which smells very Duchaufour (Duchaufive?)
Ha! Brilliant. How about Duchaufouresque or Duchaufourine?
Duchaufourian?
Win!
🙂
how is the cumin note in this?
I’ve never smelled cumin in it. It smells like an unripe banana peel and some white flowers to me. Nothing really raunchy to my nose either. I think it smells similar to Ostara.
SOTD- Chanel 19 edt as I desperately needed to wake up and get myself going.
After I made myself a cup of coffee, I realized that there was no half and half left. Instead I added 2 huge tablespoons of vanilla ice cream and it worked for me 🙂
It must be better than yogurt, which I’ve resorted to when desperate.
I haven’t tried yogurt and I probably never will since there is always vanilla ice cream in my freezer. Well, most of the time… 🙂
A combination is very interesting and tasty and one doesn’t have to wait until ice cream melts.
Yikes. That is pretty desperate.
Half and half…Milk?Lol.Sorry, dunno what that is!
Half milk and half cream.
Just what I meant to type 🙂
Thanks!I kinda had an idea it might be that…lol.
In No. 19 too. I *did* have milk for my coffee, although the carton had sprung a leak. No further mishaps for this substitute-Monday morning.
Hey Twin!
I love to put ice cream into hot coffee though I stopped doing that for dietary reasons 🙂
Hehe! Thanks for a friendly reminder:) !
I resorted to eggnog once when we ran out of cream. It was pretty awesome but I have a sweet tooth.
Today I wore Sud Magnolia, because I had a dentist appointment this morning and wanted something pleasant but unobtrusive. I biked there, straight north into some pretty significant wind, and then I went to the grocery store after – so I think I’ve accomplished enough today, you know?
I think you have! Kudos to you for biking to your appointment!
No time to read the comments this morning – I’ve been busy confessing to Donatella and reading everyone’s wonderful lists or admiring their restraint.
It’s back to work for me this morning after a week and a half – and of course the weather looks better this morning than it has for days. Chamade will go well with the green and yellow floral dress I’m wearing in the hope that the weather will be reasonable.
Hope that worked out!
I’m wearing Marni today and drinking some apple cinnamon tea.
Last night, my son and daughter-in-law had us over for dinner. They have the cutest, sweetest cat and I think she was mesmerized by my perfume. I wore Eau de Rochas last night, and she kept hanging around me, jumping on the arm of my chair for most of the night. I’m not complaining at all. She’s adorable.
Its funny though, I’ve read comments on here before about cats liking certain perfumes. I think I have read them here.
I don’t have much experience with cats (we’ve always had dogs), and when I noticed this last night, it was very funny.
I think you did, indeed mesmerize her. Eau de Rochas is some good stuff.
My late, lamented kitty loved anything with amber in it. She’d sniff my arm like it was catnip.
I spray Jicky and I am guaranteed a visit from one of the neighborly cats!
My cats are quite picky. There are things they love and lick assiduously off my wrist, others at which they put up their little noses, and yet others that they must frantically lick off themselves if I’ve polluted them. The latter, fortunately, is rare.
Headachey, off colour, and in the category of “This symptom is so silly I must be imagining it”, my tongue, mouth and throat are burning, as though I’ve eaten mouthfuls of pepper or taken huge gasps of a burning gas or something equally improbable. My perfume today has to soothe and calm, so it’s Bel Respiro, and I must say it’s working. I love it. It doesn’t smell rural –that would involve animals and manure and shearing and hot sun and hay. What it smells like is countryside–gardens spilling lushly out into meadows, and soft grass and breezes and cool shade. Yet it is not unsophisticated: it is styled to be simple, if you know what I mean. I can’t describe it well, but it’s ringing my bell today. When you need Chanel, you need it, and nothing else will do!
Allergy maybe? Hope you feel better soon. You smell lovely, anyway.
Sounds unpleasant – hope it passes quickly!
In Chergui for first time ever, courtesy of a sample from a generous NSTer. Home alone, so may even load it up more. I’m trying to clean…our tiny apartment feels destroyed from the holiday mess. I’m competing with Mrs Meyer’s Iowa Pine that was generously sprayed in the kitchen. Country music on the Sonos… makes me wish I was in a road trip. Country is car music.
My SOTD has nothing to do with this week’s theme. I am wearing “Wild Fig & Cassis” by Jo Malone. I usually like to wear this when the weather starts to get cooler. It was chilly this morning, so I thought, “why not?” To my dismay, I realized that I only had a few drops of this left and finished off my FB. This scent was discontinued, so I was sad to throw my bottle out. Although I have found a few “fig” scents that I enjoy wearing, none of them can replace my WF&C.
Wearing L’Occitane’s Labdanum (discontinued years ago, I think). It’s so nice, but quite fleeting.
You smell fabulous, Robin!
Not that I ever need any prodding to do some Hobbit/LOTR reading or viewing, but honoring Tolkien’s birthday is a good reason! I’ll spend some time in Middle Earth today…
My SOTD is Cabochard. And now I’m off to today’s comments and the Damage Poll.
I read The Hobbit but never did make it through LOTR — one of these days!
It’s late so with luck no one will see this but you Robin. I can’t stand hobbits. ☺️
Hee!Hee! i am reading 🙂
Ha!
Well! After I behaved so well in December, today I stormed the bastille(Lush) and got every damn product I wanted for aaaages.Lol.I’ve been putting off shopping because everything I acquire now, needs to be packed when I move the end of this month, but I thought What the hell…Lol.So currently it is 21:19,and the temp control reads 34 celcius for the outside.Dear John edc to the rescue. And some Eau Roma on my face.I put it all in the fridge because temperatures here have been IN.SANE….Happy Week all!!xo
enjoy your move! exciting
Thank you!Yes exciting,stressful…Lol.Fresh start to 2017.That’s the main goal.x
I’m wearing L’Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Intense, which I got from Fragrancenet with a coupon. I like it a lot. I’m getting mostly cocoa and patchouli and something kind of herbal.
That’s pretty much all I get, too, but I love it. So mellow and easy.
P.S Happy Birthday to JRR Tolkien! It has been said that the town of Hogsback, right here in South Africa(Eastern Cape Province) served as some inspiration for his description of the scenery in some parts of the books. It is a magical place during winter when the snow falls.
Last comment promise!!Lol!Here’s a duzi for you guys:who remembers the “Krystle” and “Carrington” perfumes from the 80’s/early 90’s?My Mom bought Krystle for her and Carrington for my Dad.They were LOUD!!
OOO! I remember those! I think Joan Collins also had a perfume with her name on it as well (if I am not mistaken)
Here we are-

Yes!I remember reading about it,but it never landed here!Goodness that must also be a perfume-bomb of sorts!Love Joan Collins. If anyone saw her in the UK series Footballer’s Wives….OMG,what fun!!
And she had one in 2014,I am woman????How did I not know this??Lol
I purchased Forever Krystle for my Mother in the early days of eBay.
It is the pure parfum used in the commercial, the props manager for the ad shoot was selling most of her possessions.
Very big floral and LOUD !!! 😉

Hi everyone! I’ve been reading the daily SOTD posts for a few weeks now and figured I had better join in 🙂 It’s so fun reading about how you all sniff, and the weather where you are, etc etc! Thanks for making my days better 🙂
I’m wearing Bois des Iles because it’s the first day back to work after 2 weeks off – so hard! We have a new boss after being without for 1.5 years (omg! we had an interim but still!) so I wanted something that makes me feel strong, confident and classy. I also always think of the Guide’s comment that Bois des Iles is the brunette sister of No. 5. Being a brunette, I quite like it!!
Welcome!
Welcome!
Hi and welcome, and you smell great! Hope the boss works out.
Hello!
Put on some more of the Sylvaine Delacourte samples – they are pleasant but I am just not a white musk person. I’ve switched to Box of Eels extrait. Much better.
Despite not being a white musk person AND despite publicly claiming that I was tired of spending money on samples – er, I bought this sample set too…
I got this one too – what a steal! I wore Florentina yesterday and it was nice and persistent, but there was something about it that wore me out – I ended up switching too. I’m looking forward to trying the others!
In Parfums 06130 Lys today – I don’t even like water lily but I love this one more every time I wear it. I think it’s the coriander, also the drydown is really fresh and springy. Great for a bright but freezing-cold day like today.
My entire perfume “collection” is samples from Luckyscent. I am fairly new to fragrance and there is just so much to smell! I’ve probably tried 150 scents so far. I’m a student, so I’m not able to buy bottles if I’m to keep my sample habit up. If I really like one I just get another sample.
I’d like to try fragrances that aren’t offered on Luckyscent. I’ve never smelled Shalimar or Joy. Does anyone have recommendations for places to procure vintage samples, or suggestions for scents I really ought to try?
Is the Perfumed Court still up and running? I vaguely remember a kerfuffle about big perfume houses getting cranky, so someone here should know better than I do.
Surrender to Chance and The Perfumed Court are the most popular decanting sites in the US, and they offer a wide selection of vintage and modern samples and decants. There’s also ScentSplit, Decantshop, PerfumeSamplesandDecants, ebay, and Facebook groups, and many perfume houses sell samples as well. Several stores sell samples, like Twisted Lily and Indigo Perfumery. There’s a freebie meet coming up here on NST on January 21st where you might find something you’re interested in, and for suggestions on what to try, check out the Perfumista Lists, Favorite Posts and Resources here on NST.
I’ve probably forgotten about a billionty other things, but this should get you started. Welcome to the rabbit hole! 🙂
The New Year rat race starts again! Every year after the holidays it seems like I spend a lot of time on the phone, following up on things that couldn’t be handled during the holidays when lots of places were closed or short-staffed. Today I’m wearing Shalimar…Mexique and thinking about having soup for dinner, it’s freezing here.
Wearing Volutes EdT (my xmas bottle came today!) and running errands. Listening to the Mortified Podcast – highly recommend. It’s where adults read their teenage diary entries in front of an audience. Hilarious! Always makes me laugh loudly in public. Worth it.
I will have to look at that podcast, thanks!
Yay! Please do!
Day 2 of Aedes de Venustas and inspired (or rather, prompted) by yesterday’s review I changed my planned order and wore “Cierge de Lune” today. It definitely smells just like a flower blooming in the desert would – I’m 230km from the nearest desert in Tabernas and would smell nothing, and that’s just what I got from this one.
Top: musk and powdery notes
Mid: vanilla, black pepper, pink pepper, ylang-ylang and hedione ;
Base: suede, incense, amber, musk and ambroxan.
File under ‘Breaking News: a person anosmic to musk failed to smell a musk perfume earlier today’. :^D
Ha! Sorry 🙁 Have you tried Byredo Mojave Ghost(another cactus flower in the desert perfume)? You might not be able to not smell it for days on end. My most potent, persistent scrubber to date, I think.
Late today but I thought I’d post anyway as I am wearing New Sibet and feeling very happy about it. It’s just the right amount weird.
I’m testing Ore this evening and not finding it weird at all. ????
Ha! New Sibet has the thing where you wonder a little bit if someone out in the world will think you smell off, but you don’t care. Or at least I don’t.
Lol! I am surrounded by perfume grinches, so I hear that when I wear most of my perfumes. ????
Nice napkin rings, Robin!
SOTD = Cuir Beluga
I’m back from my short trip to London. I have Wednesday off to catch up and then it is wahhhh, back to work on Thursday. I already know which perfume I must wear.
My faith in airline food was restored. We were served Loseley Honey and Stem Ginger vanilla ice cream – there’s macerated ginger with honey. So delicious…now I’ll be obsessed with finding a U.S. distributor.
Things I wish I bought but didn’t:
https://www.fortnumandmason.com/products/hd-alice-tea-for-one
(really cute Alice in Wonderland themed teapot, cup and saucer set; the teapot sits atop the cup).

Traveller’s tip – turn clothes inside out and sort by color when packing to go home from a trip.
Home sweet home.
It is nice to come home. I hope you had a great adventure in London!
That ice cream sounds good! I like your idea for return-trip packing. I’ll have to try incorporating it into my own established ‘methods’.
Welcome back! 🙂
Welcome home!
