A very happy New Year's Eve, all! Do stay safe.
We're marking the occasion with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, any perfume-related resolutions for 2017, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…
Note: image shows Moleskine planners for 2017, which you can buy here.
Happy New Year to all from the Swamp! Glorious day here and I have actively sought out the sun so that I may sit and eat my nutritionally empty bagel with cream cheese and drink super nuclear hot coffee while warming my old bones.
SOTD is my top 2 from 2016- Amber Flush Body oil layered under MFK Grand Soir! Goodbye 2016! You weren’t ALL bad but I’m ready for better in 2017, both personally and professionally.
The crud is finally departing as well, and though I still have some symptoms, the crushing fatigue is gone. That’s reason enough to celebrate????
Best wishes to you all in the coming year! Hoping 2017 is packed with outstanding perfumes, experiences, travel, friends and family, and most of all, good health! ✌????
Best wishes to you too!
Happy New Year Deva!
Happy New Year Deva!
You smell grand! Glad the crud is leaving you. Happy New Year!
Healthy New Year to you and your well-warmed-up bones!
Happy New Year, Deva (Queen !!)
Happy New Year Deva. Enjoy!
Happy New Year! Glad you’re feeling better, and of course you smell great!
Peace to you too Deva!
Hurray for the departure of the crud!! And best New Year’s wishes to you and all of NST!
Maybe third time is the charm? Internet gremlins have eaten my previous attempts at commenting.
Deva, hurray for the crud finally packing up and leaving.
To all of NST, may you have a happy and healthy 2017.
Wishing you a fabulous 2017!
Happy New Year Deva! We have 365 blank pages to fill with professional and personal adventures!
A Fragrant hello to everyone.
I have been under the weather and now feeling back to normal again.
We had to post pone our holiday plans since I was having fevers on and off, but we managed to not totally ruin the holidays for the babies.
I am in Shalimar body powder, smells nice without being too much. When I am sick the last thing I want to do is smell perfume..
Cheers to 2017! I hope its better than I think it will be!
You smell great! I may look into that Shalimar powder myself. Hope you feel better very soon. Rest, drink lots of fluids, and be good to yourself????
Glad to see you about!Enjoy that Shalimar!x
Glad you’re feeling better! You smell wonderful. Happy 2017!
I wish you next year not to get any reasons not to smell perfumes!
Happy 2017. You smell gorgeous. Feel better!
Yay to feeling back to normal!
We’ve been a viral bunch around here lately, eh? Congratulations on your return to health, and enjoy your postponed holidays and whatever babe-appropriate New Year’s revelry you have planned (it’s all diapers and champagne around here!)
Well wishes to everyone..seems like everyone is sick now that I am catching up on the posts
Glad you’re feeling better! I don’t really enjoy perfume when I’m not feeling well either.
Trying to decide what to wear for New Year’s Eve. Right now I’m wearing SL La Myrrhe, a strong contender, but considering switching to Amouage, either Gold or Beloved, later on. I feel like I could use a bit more sparkle, though…
I tried Frapin 1697 last night, which I usually like, but it got on my nerves this time. I don’t like YSL Champagne. I’d love to wear Chanel Coco for New Years, but the event won’t be dressy enough.
What perfume are you going to wear?
Love La Myrrhe!
Not going out for NYE, though, so I can wear whatever I want. Staying home with the fam.
I enjoyed La Myrrhe all day before switching. In addition to smelling great, it has just the right amount of projection and persistence. What did you wear?
I think of Coco as classy, not necessarily dressy. I think it would be great for New Year’s.
I always think of that classic Coco spot in which Ines de la Fressange dashes into a concert hall late, bringing the orchestra to a halt.
Oooo, i need to youtube this!
Oh, hey, I’m probably going to switch to Beloved or Gold tonight too! I’m not going out, but it will be lovely to get whiffs of either as I sip my champagne.
I ended up switching to Beloved. Which did you pick?
I went with Gold. So, between us we had those gorgeous Amouage florals covered!
Have the same dilemma–casual gathering, but I’m thinking of breaking out one of my vintage Diors–either Diorling or Diorama, they both sort of say NYE for some reason.
Aaahhhh, I vote for Diorling! Either way you will smell divine!
Mmm – classic Diors! Maybe I’ll wear Diorling today.
My vote is for Gold (not that I don’t like your other contenders).
Tonight I’ll be wearing Ormonde Jayne Ta’if: it’s the only “special occasion” perfume in my collection that hasn’t got any skin time this holidays season since I was “saving” it for the favorite holiday.
Happy New Year!
Great choice, I often wish I’d bought Ta’if.
It is still available and, compared to the current niche releases, it’s almost free. Just saying…
I did wear Coco to an intimate New Year’s Eve party, and it was just right. I always like it the best, when I smell it on my clothes as I change out of them after a lovely evening.
Wishing everyone here at Now Smell This a fabulous 2017! Let’s start the countdown to midnight!
I’m finishing this year with a Prada, I chose Marienbad from Olfactories collection. Smells very warm with a nice booziness to it.
Not exactly a resolution but in 2017 I want to try a couple of fragrances I missed in 2016, such as Cartier L’Envol, Hermes Galop and Diptyque Essences Insensees 2016.
Cheers to wonderful 2017! May it be a good one!
You’re going to beat a lot of us to the 2016 finish line–have a good evening!
Happy New Year to you too. You smell great!
I thought of you yesterday when I sampled Clementine California
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Went to yoga with three family members this morning wearing Eden Botanicals Labdanum 10% all over body (exquisite smoky amber scent and the best value going) and Eden Botanicals Coconut Pulp on wrists. I am still working my way through all of my essential oils and realizing how absolutely fabulous they wear as natural perfumes.
Hope everyone has a very happy and healthy 2017!!!!
Oh and perfume related resolution (which basically pertains to all material stuff) is to continue on my no buy for the entire 2017. I realize that I have so much great stuff and am so grateful for what I have that I really don’t need to make any more purchases of anything.
Joining you on the “no buy” for 2017. I will try my best to enjoy what I already have. Happy New Year!
I would join you, except there are some things I need to buy.
go for it
Hehehe, I’m with you on the “need to buy.”
Lol! Slow-buy then, perhaps?
My intention is to buy much less this year. We’ll see how that goes. But I do have quite a bit to enjoy, myself. Wishing you a happy new year. I hope you’ll continue to keep me entertained with your delicious gravatars!
I will cheer you on in your buy less quest!
Happy 2017 darling chocolatmarzipan!x
Right back at you XXOO
Oh and ….I will always think of you whenever I read about smellbent! I have sampled a few and they are most definitely quirky and original and lovely!
Haha!I’m so glad to finally get an enabler’s pin!Haha!Plus Brent Leonesio=Inspiration for current amazeballs hair adventures!X
Yoga, on the NY eve’s day! You’re my hero I just made it out of the bed, and now it’s time to cook.
Happy New Year! I wish you to keep your NY resolution – but only as long as it makes you happy.
Bed and cooking is great too
My new attitude about ‘stuff’ really iS making me very happy..I am realizing that I can appreciate what I have in terms of not only material goods but my family, health and overall wellbeing…in the end that is all that matters
So, so very true. As soon as i get well, i plan on purging a lot of my stuff. Good health and family really needs to be celabrated more.
and my NON PERFUME related resolution is to EAT LESS SWEETS in 2017!!!! (let us see if I can stick to that one !!)
Oh, that labdanum sounds marvelous.
It is! and it makes a fabulous and highly affordable “amber” body oil! I just discovered my 4 oz bottle in the basement! and in case anyone is interested-
Thank you for the link to the oils! I definitely want to check them out. Thank you also for the earlier rec.. for SSS as a place to find a sandal perfume. I tried CdB , Cocoa Rose, and Incense Pure, Rose Volupte and Tabac Aurea while I was sampling anyway!
The Rose and Tabac Aurea worked beautifully! I’m delighted to have found them.
Hope you have a grand new year!
You are most welcome! And if you do sample from Eden do let us know if anything works for you!
I am so happy to also hear that you found something that you like from SSS! Laurie really does make some outstanding perfumes!
Wishing you a grand year as well!
Oh and before I forget (as I always do at the onset of each month) for an extra auspicious start to the new year…
DON’T FORGET RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT TOMORROW ;0
Happy New Year to all. I imagine many of us are delighted to see the end of 2016. Here’s hoping for the best 2017 possible.
I will be out at a party or two tonight. Not sure what to wear, although I like the Coco suggestion above. Maybe Bal a Versailles?
One good thing happening in 2017 is that I will be visiting Denmark for work in January! Is anyone from NST in Copenhagen or Ribe? Any perfume recommendations for either of those places?
Bal is perfect!
Happy New Year, missionista! Crime Passionnel is located in the heart of Copenhagen. Some lines not in the typical NYC perfumeries include Puredistance and Parfums d’Empire.
Have fun in Copenhagen while you’re working!
Good to know, thanks! (or should I say “tak”)
I got my fragrant Copenhagen souvenirs at Storm when I was there in September and they had some lines that aren’t in NY (My souvenirs were from Mark Buxton and WeinerBlut)
Great recs, thanks/tak!
Checking in from London!
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
SOTE = probably Jo Loves Pomelo
I have to counteract the super strong ouds wafting about. Today, we visited the Courtauld Gallery and the Abstract Expressionism exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts.
Yesterday, I was lamenting not being able to make it to Jo Loves but planned to visit Harrods instead. Well, plans changed and I ended up having a fabulous lunch at Fortnum & Mason (at the casual one near where the Porcelaine tea sets are displayed). Then I took a cab to Jo Loves, turned in my certificate for Pomelo (instead of Smoked Plum & Leather) and the Pomelo Hand and Body Cleanser, browsed around Les Senteurs perfume boutique (a big surprise since I just chanced upon it on the same street as Jo Loves) and then took a cab back to the hotel. Oh, and at Boots earlier today, I saw YSL Kouros on sale and got the 50 mLs for £23 (free, no?) – enabler pin to Bear, over a year since he mentioned it.
Note to pixel – the Mango Thai Lime didn’t wow me. The Gardenia one was also not included in the Discovery Set but no big loss for me since it smelled more of jasmine to me than gardenia.
Note to Creosote – the fog was in evidence yesterday and through today. I guess one doesn’t come to London in winter expecting bright blue skies :-). BM was fabulous as usual!
And thanks to everyone who commented yesterday. I’m afraid I won’t have a Harrods report to share but then again, I’ll be here for several more days and may have other shopping adventures!
Now I’m off to squeeze in a little bit of exercise so I can stuff myself in good conscience for the New Year’s festivities.
Happy New Year everyone!
Happy New Year Friend!Enjoy the UK!x
Have fun on your London New Year’s Eve!
I’m so glad you got to turn in your certificate. Happy New Year!
Nice of you to check in! Sounds like you are having a good time. I really want to smell that smoked plum & leather, hopefully at some point she will offer samples without an obligatory bottle purchase. Happy new year!
Oh, the F&M food hall. I could just move in there.
You’re being treated to some real pea soup!
Have a great New Year’s Eve! ????
Sounds like a great trip, hajusuuri! If you have a chance to find Lyn Harris’s Perfume H in Marylebone, that would be something unique. All the best for 2017!
Happy New Year, hajusuuri! and thank you again for everything
Happy New Year Hajusuuri. Keep enjoying your trip!
Happy New Year, Hajusuuri! Enjoy your festivities, and may our paths cross in many happy splittings and swappings in 2017!
I’m surprised that Pomelo won you over: I liked it when I tried it but I didn’t love it. Now I’ll need to wear it again.
Enjoy NY in London (I envy you a little )!
Cheers! Enjoy the rest of your time!
Happy New Year! I lived around the corner from Harrods in the sixties and seventies. They had a disco and an exotic zoo in the store back then! I’m not sure if the current perfume offerings would be as enticing..
Oh, wow! Enjoy your time in London. Going to London and visiting either or both Jo Malone or Jo Loves boutique is definitely on my bucket list. I will have to live vicariously through you!
Do report more of your adventures if you can
Hello hajusuuri !!
Enjoy YSL Kouros and London.
Happy New Year !!
Yay !! Enabler pin. LOL
I was going to ask if you tried the new Piguet Insomnuit which I heard was a Harrod’s exclusive, but someone has informed me that Bergdorf’s has it, and you didn’t go in the end. Enjoy your NY festivities!
I tried it at Bergdorf’s before Christmas and I liked it enough to get a sample
Good to know.
Enjoy the trip. I got Pomelo a few years ago when Jo Loves had a small 2nd floor boutique. I’m afraid I haven’t yet developed the strong ” no buy” resolve of other NSTers, and I will continue to be happily enabled by you in 2017 .
Happy New Year Eve NSTRs! I’m happy to be moving on to 2017. I decided to end the year in Beloved.
We just finished a three month renovation so my weekends will go back to just the usual chores. Yay for a little free time!
Have a great holiday all! ????
You smell fabulous. (I’ll either be your twin later or a sibling, in Gold.) A happy ???? to you!
Thanks! You as well!
You’ll smell great! Happy New Year!
Good luck with the move!
Happy New Year to you! Nice perfume choice and congrats on the finished renovation.
Warm, humid evening here, some clouds about!Chilled day, washed AND waxed my ruby-red baby(Aka THE PEUGEOT,lol),had Bran flakes with almond milk and too much honey for lunch. In other words a perfect last day of ’16.Happy New Year Friends.I hope 2017 does not suck as much,as 2016 did-in all departments.SOTD/E Jasmin et Cigarette. Not going clubbing for New Year’s this year, but I might as well smell like I was.XOX
Yes to 2017 not sucking! Happy New Year, Johanob!
Why not dance like you’re clubbing, too?!? ????????????????????
Trust me,I did!!Haha!Last song of 2016 was a slow one though,Elton John’s Tiny Dancer.Love it.
that is a good one!
OOO! Love Tiny Dancer (cause that was me in the early 80s!)
the good thing about 2016 is that it came and went exceedingly quick (at least so it seemed to me!)
happy New Year , johanob!
Happy New Year Johanob! You smell fantastic. Hopes for a terrific 2017.
Thank you everyone for the wishes!NST is family.xo
Cheers! Smelling like a club….????????
I just want to thank you for sharing your journey through your recent bereavement. I’m going through that myself. Not. Done. And where the bleep is Merlin?
Thank you for your words of encouragement, the process is almost done settling legal stuff around trusts and the will,But soo be over at least.Sorry to hear you’re going through the same!!Chin up,and smell beautiful always!
Missy Merlin took a break of 2/3 weeks to the Reunion Islands,So I guess she is toes in the sand with a cocktail onhand most times!!Happy New Year!!x
Yes, I’m hoping it’s less sucky as well. You do smell fabulous!
Wearing Safran Troublant today and will probably wear Champagne to brunch tomorrow
You smell fantastic. One of my favorites! Happy New Year!
Yes to Champagne, for wearing and for brunch! Cheers!
Happy New Year’s Eve!
Right now I’m testing MFK Grand Soir for the first time. Wow. As inclined as I am to reapply it after my shower later, I think I will spritz on something fabulous from Amouage for tonight–Beloved or Gold.
May these last hours of 2016 be good ones for you all, fellow NSTers!
MFK’s perfumes usually do not work for me so I stopped even tracking what’s new from the line, and don’t remember whether I tried the one that you’re wearing. But I love both of your potential choices for the evening.
Happy New Year!
A bit off topic – but does anyone know what has happened to Brian Pera? He’s the guy that was doing those short films about women and collaborating with Andy Tauer on some film-related fragrances.
He’s not posted on his blog since April of 2015. I hope he’s okay!
He’s fine. He’s still making films. He’s still perfume crazy. I miss his writing and wish he’d resume.
Me too! I’ve discovered so many wonderful perfumes by reading his blog. I miss his perspectives on things.
2016 can’t end soon enough.
My perfume resolution for 2017 is to enjoy what I already have and not buy anything new. That will be sorely tested in late spring when I go to all the flea markets of Amsterdam and Brussels, but vintage doesn’t really count, as far as I’m concerned, and vintage bought on vacation doesn’t count double.
HA! You are absolutely correct. Doesn’t count one bit!
I’m with you on that.
Buying vintage is more like a good deed, pyramus. Here’s to great finds in 2017!
Love this logic????
Ha! Yes, I call it perfume rescue ????
Exactly! It’s like saving an endangered species. (OK, not quite that noble, but still.)
Nope, doesn’t count!
Love your resolution I am right there with you!
That’s the spirit! Not counting double on holiday is the best philosophy I’ve ever heard. I shall explain it to the dear man, but I’ll probably need a white board and diagrammes…
Anything purchased while in vacation is the cost of vacation.
I’m still under the weather, but sitting in my car on my lunch break listening to Rod Stewart. Hot legs, indeed:) I am wishing you all a safe and Happy New Year! SOTD is Pure Poison, which has been on my to buy list FOREVER.
Let’s hope 2017 brings good health!
Great song to have lunch in the car with!!Happy New Year!!!
I hope you can get a break to recover!
All the Amouage chatter above has inspired me – I think I’ll wear Jub 25 tonight. In Rose Flash for now to cheer me up for my baking and cleaning projects today (in preparation for our annual New Years Eve open house). Happy New Year everyone!
It’s hard to beat Amouage! Have a great open house, bastet!
So tonight we shall (hopefully) wander down to the main square for the traditional Nochevieja celebrations in Malaga. We have bought our grapes (you have to eat one grape for each of the 12 chimes of the clock at midnight). Neither of us loves crowds, so if it all looks too much we’ll come home and watch the broadcast event from Madrid.
SOTD is MDCI “Chypre Palatin”. :^)
Enjoy the celebrations!
OK guys, we’ve kicked 2016 out in Malaga, over to you guys in the UK, USA and points west to keep the momentum going. Happy 2017! :^)
Enjoy with the other Mr. Koenigsberg.
Happy New Year !!
Happy New Year to you both! How’s 2017 so far?
Well, we walked down past the Plaza de la Merced, up Mundo Nuevo to the tunnel under the Arab Palace, and down through the hillside gardens to the harbour. Now sitting in the sun drinking coffee and tea. It’s not hot sun, but certainly warm enough to sit outside and watch the people walking by.
If I look from left to right, I can see the ferry to Morocco which will sail tonight, the Ferris Wheel, and the cathedral with its famous missing second tower (funds stolen by a radical bishop and sent to the American revolutionaries). Then the trees of the Paseo del Parque with the Arab Palace and the walled track up to the Arab Castle on to of the hill. In the foreground a line of yachts and dinghies bobbing about.
A few more days of this and I won’t remember how to even spell the word stress. :^)
Lovely! Sounds like it’s off to a good start.
Going off to yoga class in a light dose of Copal Azur, but will likely switch to Beloved tonight for new year’s eve festivities. Wishing everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous 2017 – may it be a damn sight better than 2016!
Enjoy yoga !
Happy and Healthy New Year
I’m sampling Tam Dao for the first time, and it smells waxy to me, like crayons. Not good initially, but maybe the drydown is better?
If you like sandalwood maybe Samsara would be a better fit?
SotD = a delightful few dabs of Joy edp from an old sample vial. I’m sniffing my wrists and smiling while I tidy the house in anticipation of 2017.
Here’s to sentimental endings, and to beginning as we mean to go on. Be safe and be fragrant, NST, the world is counting on us.
What a fabulous way to do housework!
You smell wonderful! Enjoy your evening.
Happy New Year dear NST family! I’ve missed commenting but not a day has passed that I haven’t read everything shared here. It still amazes me that we have such a diverse international community that shares the same passion, and that we care for each other here, too. As many others have voiced, 2016 seems to have had more than the usual share of challenges for me as well.
So … on to 2017, y’all! We don’t turn back! We pull each other up! Fired up! Ready to go!
NST is a great example of pulling each other up! All of us looking for the best in something (in this case, fragrance).
Happy New Year Holly!!!! Onward ever upward
Happy New Year, Holly, and three cheers for the best-smelling community in the world!
Let’s Go Holly,Let’s GO.Great to see you here.X
This community amazes me too! It really is something very special.
I’m definitely getting fired up for 2017! Happy New Year to you!
Welcome back, Holly! Happy New Year!
So glad to see you here, Holly. I hope things are looking up for you.
Happy New Year!
Dear Holly, have a very happy, fabulous 2017!
Holly! We need to rendezvous at Arielle’s and have more perfume adventures! Happy New Year and hope to see you soon, dear friend!
Slightly belated New Year’s wishes to you, Holly!
Happy New Year 2017 Everyone! This year I am very grateful for having joined this perfume community. Thank you Robin for this wonderful blog. Thank you all of you who made possible for me to try new scents and learned from your experiences. Oakland Fresca and Elisa P. thank you for making me enjoy 2 of my best discoveries of the year. I wish you all NST’ers good health, happiness and beautiful fragrance moments on the new year.
I will quietly stay home tonight and I will be wearing Chanel No. 5 extrait. Enjoy and stay safe!
I am joining you in a quiet night….and you smell classy
You smell fab. Enjoy your evening!
Wishing you a wonderful new year and it’s very satisfying helping someone find a new perfume love. It’s been fun sharing with you and others in this wonderful community????
SOTD is SSS Tabac Aurea for its lovely, soothing quality.
Which I need. I was finishing my Christmas shopping two weeks ago when a young woman who was paying no attention to traffic slammed into my car. I wasn’t hurt (well, bruised and quite shaken, but nothing else), but because of the holidays, car can’t be repaired until next week. Grrrr…..
Then we took our most recent litter of foster kittens back to the shelter. No good deed goes unpunished because the heretofore unknown about fleas from said kittens stayed behind with us. Raise your hand if you enjoy vacuuming, because you can come over to my house and do it the recommended every.single.day to help get rid of them. Argh!
For me, 2016 is ending pretty much as badly as it went all year long. Good riddance!
(And thanks for letting me vent; I know there are people all over the world whose problems are much worse. I just wish there hadn’t been an unending supply of these kinds of frustrations all year. Here’s to a better 2017!)
I don’t mind vacuuming, and if I could do it for you I would. I’d always rather clean than cook, actually, so if you’d keep nice hot tea coming and throw me an occasional piece of bread-and-butter, I’d gladly do your vacuuming.
If only we weren’t half a world away from one another!
I would happily cook for you from dusk to dawn, if it meant no more vacuuming! ????
Probably not vacuuming… But I love ironing – do you need anything pressed while you’re at your flea-elimination mission?
Happy New Year!
Yes, good riddance 2016. Here’s to 2017!
Car accident twins! It’s quite fitting that we ended the year with a bang! and not a whimper.
Oh, so sorry about the fleas. Been there, done that. They literally leave cats to jump onto and bite me. Ugh.
So glad you weren’t seriously injured! Sorry about the fleas. (Now there’s something I don’t say ever day.) Hope your 2017 is an improvement!
Oh so sorry on both fronts! Brutally disruptive. You deserve some good karma and hoping next year starts off better. And you also smell fantastic, so at least there’s that.
Morning all, from the beginning of 2017. Last night in the city was rather noisy –I think the last of the revellers wound their loud and inconsiderate way homewards at about 6 o’clock– so chez Waterdragon, we’re off to a gentle, slow start. I don’t do resolutions, but I do set myself some things to contemplate, and I each week I carry them forward on the notes page of my diary so I don’t overlook them when I’m busy or miserable. This year, I found I could make an easy anagram: “L.A.R.C.H.E.”. So, my diary (coincidentally, a Moleskine one, Robin) is now set up. I enjoyed doing it, actually. For no reason at all, I drew a patchwork elephant on the front page and added a quote from John Donne and fir this week, a bit of scurrilous verse my father taught me, and that, together with a glorious cloud of Traversee du Bosphore, seems as good a way as any to start a better year.
I hope 2017 sparkles for all of us. We need a year that’s full of light.
Happy New Year ! I will always think of Galop whenever I think of you!
I am very tempted by a Moleskine diary — and they have Peanuts, The Little Prince and Alice in Wonderland themes this year. Quite cute!
I took the wrapper off my new diary and agendas for 2017 last night and started writing in them this morning, I love starting with a fresh notebook! I use the German brand Leuchtterm, selecting a different colour every year – this year is aqua blue/teal. I had a Little Prince one last year for my budget notations, which was fun. Wishing you a wonderful 2017!
I’m wearing YSL Champagne, an emerald green velvet dress, dotted black tights and pink velvet heels. A bit seventies, but works for me.
I’ve had some champagne (of the non-perfume variety) already, so just dropping in to say I love you all and have a fantastic evening and a fabulous New Year!
You look and smell gorgeous (exactly what I would have expected!) Have an extra glass of champagne for me (in all likelihood I will be asleep by 8pm with my person!)
I had several extra glasses of Champagne ???? Thank you and happy New Year!
Emerald green velvet….ooooh!
Good, right? Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Annikky. You smell and look gorgeous A toast for you and all of us. Enjoy!
Thank you and a very happy New Year to you, too!
Wishing you all a wonderful, joyful New Year! I’m currently in L’Attesa because le swoon and because it’s been one of my favorites from 2016. Last night I got the party started early in vintage Champagne parfum, and tonight I’m scheming some combination of Peche Cardinal and No. 5 Eau Premiere to go with our bubbly.
Why this showed up under Annikky’s post I have no idea, but since it did I might as well add that my New Year’s resolution is to wear more emerald green velvet.
and love your planned combo!
I think that might be the very best NY’s resolution I’ve ever heard! Get right at it!
This made me lol!
Will keep this in mind as I a guideline for developing my own 2017 resolutions!
Great resolution! And Champagne parfum sounds amazing. Can it still be found on eBay or somewhere?
I found a 4 ml mini on Etsy recently, and it’s in surprisingly good shape.
You look (and smell) great! Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!
Thank you and the very same to you and your close ones!
There’d better be pics of this gorgeous-sounding outfit!!Enjoy! And you smell perfect!Happy New Year!!!
There is one on Instagram, if you’re interested, although you cannot really tell the dress is green. Happy New Year!
Enjoy all your versions of Champagne! Cheers!
I sure did:) Cheers and happy New Year!
That’s a great outfit. Happy New Year.
Thank you, same to you!
You had me at “emerald green”! ????
Yes, that’s exactly what happened woth me and that dress Happy New Year!
Loving the outfit!
Thank you! And have a fabulous 2017!
Happy New Year! What a lovely start.
I had a lovely evening with friend and their family. Nothing too crazy, but a lot of champagne and good conversation. Happy New Year!
Adorable – Annikky, thanks again for your lovely blog, one of my go to spots for mental refreshment!
Thank you for reading and a very happy New Year!
January 1st here, and no disasters yet. Admittedly it’s only 9.15am.
I don’t do resolutions, but have formulated a kind of half-baked intention to use up the samples that have been hanging around so I can buy more.
Keep us informed on what’s coming in the 2017
2016 wasn’t bad for me personally, so I want to be grateful to it, but seeing all the worries and problems it brought, I’m ready to see it off with the hope for a better next one.
I wish you all health, happiness and luck in the upcoming year. May 2017 be fragrant and joyful – whether you’re enjoying your current favorites in the “no buy” mode, or venture on the discovery of future favorites.
Tonight I’ll wear OJ Ta’if parfum and will love every minute of it.
Happy New Year, NST!
Happy New Year Undina!1 hour 10 min to go here!!X
Ta’if is so lovely. I only have a small sample but I think it is beautiful. Happy New Year!
You smell wonderful. Maybe my resolution should be to wear Ta’if more often…
happy New Year, Undina!!!!
Wishes for health, happiness, and luck in 2017 for you, too!
You’ll smell great, and have a great new year, Undina!
Happy New Year to all the wonderful smelling people here on NST! Looking forward to 2017!
Sotd- TDC Oriental Lounge. Tonight will find me doused in vintage Diva ????
Oriental Lounge is a nice one!
I wonder what a party of all of us together would smell like? ????
Ha, that might be nice or it might be TOO MUCH for one room!
It’s still the afternoon of NYE here on the west coast, and it has started to snow. Bois de Paradis seems to fit the mood, and for a cozy evening at home tonight, I might try out my decant of Le Galion Tubéreuse.
Tried and enjoyed the Le Galion Cuir, which is unexpectedly peppery at first sniff. It’s nice that the house is doing respectful revivals. BTW, as anyone sniffed the one with the ELDO-worthy name of Whip?
What did you think of 222?
Whip is nice; lemon, herbs and a bit of oakmoss. I have bottles of that and Eau Noble but save them for the summer.
LOVE love love Bois de Paradis!
SOTE: Lolita Lempicka L’Eau de Minuit 2004, of course!
After years of not going out for New Year’s, we finally had a reservation for dinner at 6 but the snow had been falling heavily all day. Husband took a trial run the four blocks to the main road with the truck but had to abandon it due to ice under the snow. We live far up on the side of a mountain. Today he managed to move it to a safer parking place before he can even get it home. Tonight it’s spaghetti and meatballs. He’s a fantastic cook; I’m not.
SOTD: Miss Dior EDP original. Smells off! Tried the EDT of it too but still can’t get past the dryness which I usually like. So I have concluded that I prefer Diorella.
Scent this morning was Alamut as we headed out early to see Rogue One. First showing is bargain matinee. We only realized right before we headed out that the movie was in the Times Square area. Luckily, it was early enough to not be a challenge. Much more crowded when we emerged from the movie. Far more cops and the big sanitation truck barricades were moving into place. We walked to a Greek diner for BLTs, soup and lemonade – isn’t that a traditional NYE lunch?
We will stay in tonight for filet, potatoes cooked in duck fat and some cheese fondue. And football. And I’ll just keep refreshing the Alamut….
Happy New Year all!
That is a traditional NYE lunch…now I’ve a yen for a big bowl of avgolemono.
That’s exactly what I had… tasty.
Now i want potatos cooked in duck fat. Your dinner sounds amazing.
Yes to fondue !!!!
Delicious lunch and planned supper too.
I had fondue for lunch!
Yikes, I was afraid to go into Manhattan at all today but was downtown and no crowds. Your dinner sounds delish. Happy New Year to you!
Happy New Year’s Eve Everyone! I am so ready for the New Year to start! Although 2016 had a lot of good things that occurred for me, there were some bad things that were just difficult to see past.
I am late to the party today because I was getting a new hairdo to start the year off. Change is always hard, but sometimes necessary. My SOTD is Slumberhouse’s “Pear & Olive”.
For all of you who are going out tonight, enjoy and be safe!
Happy new year! and enjoy the new hairdo!
Happy New Year to you too, chocolatemarzipan8!
Ooh, a New Year’s new hairdo is a great idea–hope it works its magic on your 2017!
Oh, I hope so too!
The snow has started again as promised, and I will soon make my way to the Comfy Sofa to observe the fluffy flakes, or perhaps simply nap. Wearing Encens Mythique to match the cashmere throw awaiting me. May everyone be where they want to be…
Comfy Sofa as in “Big Comfy Couch”???? Loved that show
enjoy the comfy evening and happy new year!
Oh my gosh… cashmere throw, couch and snow. Doesn’t get any better.
Wearing Moonlight Patchouli which is very nice but does not wow me.
Happy New Year’s Eve!
Hope it was a fun evening despite the less-than-wow perfume!
I think one of my perfume-related resolutions would be to exercise self-control and dial back impulsive purchases!
Cutting down on impulse purchases is a great goal!
i second that!
I’m about to take a nap so I can be sure to be awake at midnight – I want to kick 2016 in the behind as it skulks away. Worst year ever. However, a bright spot was rediscovering my love of perfume and discovering this wonderful community – you are all amazing, funny, smart and beautifully-scented.
My scent this evening will either be Hiris (blue thoughtfulness) or Gris Clair (grey introspection) if I’m feeling quiet. However, I may wear bubblegum chic to get 2017 started on a silly, fun note.
Stay safe, cherish those you love, and have an amazing 2017!
You too, Sistine!
I know that 2017 will be a better year for us all!
Yes to kicking its butt–and smelling great while doing it! ????
Thank you NST for all the education, information, and entertainment in 2016.
And here’s to a 2017 filled with even more!
Happy New Year Everyone !
Scent for a quiet New Year’s Eve, Christian Dior Hypnotic Poison.
Bitter almond, Sambac jasmine, and Play Doh vanilla. In my top 5 ever.
And caraway seeds. Fantastic !
Drinking triple strength coffee with some Dutch processed cocoa added so it can be extra bitter, as was 2016.
Peace, prosperity, good health and happiness for ALL in 2017.
Onward and upward !!!!
Happy New Year Bear. You couldn’t have chosen a better perfume! You smell amazing. Wishing you the best!
Just the thought of triple strength coffee gave me a caffeine buzz. ????Happy New Year!
That coffee concoction sounds like good bitter, though. Onwards and upwards indeed!
So good to see you back!!!
Happy New Year , Bear!
Thanks perfumelover67, Creosote, Elisa P, and chocolatemarzipan8!!!
Happy indeed! Enjoy!
It’s going to be a long, hard slog, but we’ll eventually get to higher ground. We’ll need strong perfume, strong coffee, and strong chocolate! Wishing you the best, Bear!
The best to you also, nozknoz.
Happy New Year, Bear!
I spent a fair amount of this afternoon getting the back yard ready for another (and the coldest yet) arctic blast due to hit us in a few hours, and now plan to ring in the new year quietly with 24 Faubourg and a glass of Malbec. Would those of you with more energy than I please give 2016 an extra kick in the rear for me as it exits our plane of existence? Happy 2017, all.
Good bye 2016!
and happy new year, SheriG
Wearing a sample of the beautiful Neroli Dore tonight , drinking extra bold coffe, and watching the Three Musketeers with the babies and husband. A wonderful quiet evening at home!
A huge thank you to the NST staff for this wonderful space! I’ve learned so much and enjoyed visiting with you wonderful people.
Wishing you all a lovely evening and a peaceful 2017!
You smelled fabulous last night
and what a perfect evening!
We did quiet at home too!
Happy New Year NST ! Best wishes for you all.
Quiet celebration is over and done here, lovely. I still reach for Chanel No.22 on New Years, and have done so since I first got to know it back in 2010. Beautiful!
You do smell beautiful!
Happy NYE, NST! Staying in, I think, pleased to have found a perfume that is hitting the spot (Jovoy Psychedelique with its very slightly medicinal patchouli.) I hope all of you have a great 2017 and I look forward to reading more of your fragrant comments!
Happy New Year! I haven’t tried the perfume you wore but the name is interesting. I hope you enjoyed it.
Happy New Year to all! It has to be better than awful 2016. I am wearing Hinoki Vanilla today. Was going to put something different on for the evening, but that one does linger! So we’ll see. We’re still having unseasonably warm temps with 66 degrees and a lot of fog here in Galveston. I broiled some (frozen but still delicious) barramundi for dinner tonight and my family and I are going to a small party in my mom’s condo building later tonight. May not even make it to midnight but I’ve got a good mystery to read and some nice Prosecco!
A good mystery and a glass of something sparkly would be perfect. I should have planned my evening properly.
I couldn’t get on earlier, page was unavailable, so Happy New Year to all NST folk!
I picked citrus and played with my uncle’s new dog all day today while wearing Azemour to blend in with the fruit trees. This afternoon I switched to Epic to go out for dinner (because work boots and a sweaty tee shirt aren’t very glam and only Amouage would do to cover the scent of canal-dampened dog). I’m spending the rest of the evening holed up in our motel room, praying that nobody steals the fruit out of the truck and hoping I have time in the morning for another romp with the big, slobbery puppy.
That sounds like a wonderful way to spend a day!
It was glorious. The weather was perfect and my new buddy, Izic the 9 month old Catahoula made me seriously question the quality of the cardio I do at the gym. I obviously need more dog in my life (don’t tell my cats).
2016 may have been horrible but it made an effort at improvement today.
Maybe you should tell your cats – and then see how much cardio they’ll give you?
Sorry about that, had to fix a few things that were broken.
Happy New Year NSTers. Thank you all for enriching my life each and every day with your humor, generosity, and wisdom.
Today I was skiing and it was sunny and warmish (for a mountain) until after lunch. The wind picked up and pretty much blew the snow off the mountain, leaving mostly ice and rocks. It also blew me down the mountain until I could get in the shelter of some trees. My body acted like a sail and fortunately there was nothing in my way. My knees are aching and I see a hot shower and some Advil in my future. My celebratory drink is Crispin Honey Cider, wonderful stuff (the pear is awesome too) and I will be having pigs in a blanket as well. Only four hours until midnight Zzzzzz…
That sounds kind of scary! My last ski experience had a similar loss of control event and it freaked me out to the point that I’ve been afraid to ski since. Sounds like you’re a much more experienced skier, though. Enjoy your pigs and cider!
Your reward sounds nice but I’m not sure about the sliding around on flat sticks. I know I’m not cut out for skiing but I hope you are enjoying it!
What a perfect day! Especially the honey cider and pigs in a blanket! I make pigs in a blanket every new years as a tradition…this year I also added some samosas….yum!
and happy new year!
That sounds awesome! Happy new year Foxbins. :^)
Hope you enjoyed that cider; you earned it!
That sounds both awesome and scary! Glad you were able to get off the mountain in one piece.
We enjoyed New Year’s Eve activities which was an (off)off-Broadway show called Career Suicide by the comedian Chris Gethard. It was a very tender and honest cimedic account if his struggles with depression and alcoholism. Then back to Brooklyn for Indian food with friends. Home by 10pm and will likely not be able to stay awake for another hour. I can still smell the remnants of my Calligraphy Rose from earlier today. Another blind swap success!
Wishing everyone blessings of health and fulfillment in the coming year. I’m also grateful for this warm and fun community. I can always count on at least this part of my day to be enjoyable. Thanks again Robin and all your contributors for this little haven. You do know that you will have to keep it going forever, right?????
Sounds like a very nice way to end the year.
I agree about NST being a wonderful refuge. Good work, Robin. And you ARE going to have to keep this up forever, you know.
I agree with you and MikasMinion. NST is always the first place I go when I turn on my computer and one of the best parts of my day! You’re stuck with all of us forever, Robin.
Happy New Year to all of NST friends! This will be a great year for all of us!
Forever is a long time, but thanks for the votes of confidence!
I’d like to join tbe chorus of thanks to Robin and all the others who keep NST such a fun and calming place to come spend a bit of time each day. This has been a rough year for me as it has been for so many and after a truly lovely night with good friends, I still can’t say I have high hopes for 2017. But there are spots of civility, friendliness, beauty, and pleasure and this virtual community and the perfume we all love are two of them. So thanks to you all, and especially Robin!
Thank you, so glad people like being here, and thank EVERYONE for another year of 99.9% civility and friendliness!
Happy New Year to the NST community! Wishing everyone HEALTH, peace, and success in facing the large and small challenges of the year. No matter what has happened during the day or week, I can find fellowship, wisdom, humor, and warmth here and I am grateful.
Thank you Robin for your tireless devotion.
Yesterday was very busy shopping for NYE dinner and cooking with my kids who are visiting from NYC. SOTD was Theorema. It was like the days of baking cookies with them, but they were showing me how they use the mandolin, prepare herb rub for leg of lamb, and decant wine. We played the phone trivia game “Heads Up” while waiting for the ball to drop. So far, 2017 is a terrific year!
You smell perfect, and if you’re still wearing it today we are twins
RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT
I remembered this morning before getting out of bed
setting my good intention for the new year…exercise and better eating…
so I am hopping on to my elliptical machine which has been collecting dust for months….
afterwards a nice hot shower and then labdanum 10% slathered all over
happy 2017 NSTers!
I remembered too chocolatemarzipan8 !
Let’s hope it is successful.
Happy New Year!
And I only gained one pound in December, but two in November.
Turkey with stuffing, my kryptonite! !! LOL
Still, very admirable!!
Wow! You did good
my goal is to bulk up a bit and get healthy physically
I need to add a bit more weight…..
I think healthy eating includes an occasional SEEs chocolate covered marzipan http://www.sees.com/custom-mix/dark-chocolate/marzipan/243.html
Have a great year!!
Wendysue , you are killing me
too much of a temptation-LOL!
Chocolatemarzipan, thank you for posting about the rabbit thing yesterday. I finally remembered to say it!
Scent for a new beginning Musc Ravageur Maurice Roucel.
Cinnamon, and powdery funky musk.
Or maybe the funk is me……..LOLOLOL
Cheers! Triple strength coffee!
Nice! I might celebrate the New Year with a latte.
The more coffee/caffeine the better!
Hiya Bear! Glad to see you posting again. Happy 2017!
Chocolatemarzipan8, Thank you for reminding me: RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT !!!
And a ‘High-5’????✋️ for posting your labdanum oil link!! I can’t wait to try it!
I took notes last year when you discussed this but couldn’t find the website listed!!
You are The Best!!
U Go Girl!????♀️????♀️
Oh yay to remembering Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit! i always tend to forget!
Eden Botanicals is amazing…you are really going to enjoy that oil! I love so many of their 10% because you can use them as body oils and as bases for our conventional perfumes…it is one of the best essential oil companies around, imho…..
I’ve never known about that tradition but now I do – thank you! (And since I’m still in bed, I hope, it counts: rabbit, rabbit, rabbit!)
Prompted by galbanumgal, I’m facing 2017 in vintage Diorling.
Wishing you all the best, dear perfume friends, and looking forward to more fume fun in 2017!
Best to you, nozknoz for a peaceful and fragrant year. You smell elegant and refined.
Glad to hear it!
Welcome 2017, a year that I hope brings wonderful things to all. It’s bringing warm weather back to the swamp quicker than I would like, but “Damn the torpedoes!” I’m wearing MFK Cologne pour le Soir, anyway!
My big plan today is to just chill and go see Star Wars. Be safe and a very Happy New Year to all! You all smell fabulous✌????
You smell great! Go for it with MFK today!
Enjoy the movie! I saw it with family members on Christmas day.
Yup, you smell great! I love CPLS.
You smell good
Hello, all. It’s still quite early here–not quite 6 a.m.– but I’ve been awake for hours. One of THOSE nights, you know? Bad dreams, all silly stuff but still nasty, woke tense and worried then couldn’t relax back to sleep. Very tiresome! Still, the nice thing about holidays is that I can nap after lunch if I want, and I probably will want.
SOTD is Galop, because why not? It’s still in its bright opening phase, and it is soooooo pretty. I had wondered if it would be a better winter perfume than a summer one, but t seems to adapt itself well to warm(ish) weather–it blooms gently, revealing new facets over a few hours before it unifies its disparate elements into a pleasing, warm, dark red scent that stays close to the body (I think). I love this stage: it makes me think of walking into a room that has no light source but a dying fire.
Of course it is Galop!
Sorry you had a rough night, hopefully a nap will do the trick. I love your last line about walking into a room that has no light source but a dying fire.
On the first day of the first month of the year, I am wearing Smell Bent’s January, which is a vanilla bomb. We will see see how long I can stand it, before I scrub.
Oops…sorry your 1st perfume of the year is a scrubber!
HAPPY NEW YEAR Y’ALL!!!! I made it to midnight, thanks to my 3 kids nudging me in bed to stay awake! LOL!
Yesterday I wore a bit of Guerlain’s Idylle, which is new to my collection, and while I love it, I’m gonna save it for Spring. Too light and airy for winter.
Today, I’m scentless! My bestie and her hubs are coming over tonight for football and snacks, and she is extremely sensitive to ALL scents. LOL! No need to aggravate sinuses…
I hope everyone’s 2017 is healthy, happy, and full of joy. It already goes without saying that all of us will smell fabulous!
SOTD for Sunday was Jovoy “La Liturgie des Heures”, which is a quite churchy incense with decent lasting powers.
Top: green notes, cypress;
Mid: incense, olibanum, cistus, myrrh;
Reminds me a bit of N-Cigale’s “Pin Mystic”, so I’m not sure I need this one, but I’ll add it to the longlist for the record.
Happy New Year! i’m checking in from a rainy London. SOTD was Jo Loves Pomelo and I was commando this evening.
The New Year’s Eve Medieval Banquet was a lot of fun. It was held in the dungeons at St. Katherine’s Dock near the Tower of Lomdon. My group wore jester hats or crown props while others were in costumes. We had a wrench serving us and we were encouraged to yell out WENCH when we needed something. Due to tight quarters, the meal was served family style. The first course was a tasty mushroom soup and we were encouraged to sip from the bowl (and we were not given spoons); I managed to eat mine without wearing it. Other courses included smoked salmon, beef, foi gras, steamed vegetables, scalloped potatoes and a chocolate mousse cake. We were entertained in between courses by singers, contortionists, jugglers and a sword fight. Overall, it was a fun party!
Today, we visited the Victoria & Albert Museum, saw The Railway Children at the King’s Cross Theatre and had High Tea at the Belvedere Hotel. Tomorrow is my last full day in London and I will be sad to leave it…but I’ll likely be back at some point in the not too distant future. Nozknoz – I was in the Perfumer H vicinity but the boutique was closed today and I doubt I will make it there tomorrow. This is on my list for the next visit!
Sounds like a great time! Glad you enjoyed London.
By the way…I’m loving the Silk Road scent of the lotion candles. Enabler pin bestowed!
It sounds like you have had a wonderful time during this trip!
I end up wearing my food quite often. (Thankfully, it’s usually at home!) That sounds like a fun NYE. Enjoy your last day and have a safe trip back!
Welcome to 2017! Wearing Oriental Express but will be switching over to Fêtes Persanes shortly.
Thank you to Robin and everyone at NST for a great community and also thanks to the wonderful people who come here and comment every day – always a ray of sunshine no matter what else is going on that day.
Thank you for being part of that ray! Really.
I welcomed the New Year by doing 109 Sun Salutations at my local yoga studio. It was very challenging but I had great company and support. I wore Aftelier Ancient Resins for this endeavor. Happy New Year and love and peace to all of you.
Holy cow, good for you — and is there a reason for the 109? I am sure there must be.
It was actually 108 for the number of beads found on a Buddhist mala or 3 rounds of 36, the number of beads found on a wrist mala.
Happy New Year’s Day, NSTers! Mr. Jalapeno and I went over to a party that some friends were having last night, and we got back home a little later than I had anticipated. So today was a late start.
Yesterday’s SOTD was Mitsouko, because. Someone here had mentioned it earlier in the week, and it was a perfect match for how I felt and the weather. Today’s SOTD is Nirvana Black… I needed something calming after yesterday’s excesses, however wonderful they were.
Happy New Year Jalapeno !!
Mitsouko —- I think I will wear it this week. Thanks !
