Lazy weekend poll ~ open thread, New Year’s Eve 2016

Moleskine planners for 2017

A very happy New Year's Eve, all! Do stay safe.

We're marking the occasion with our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, any perfume-related resolutions for 2017, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Note: image shows Moleskine planners for 2017, which you can buy here.

Happy New Year to all from the Swamp! Glorious day here and I have actively sought out the sun so that I may sit and eat my nutritionally empty bagel with cream cheese and drink super nuclear hot coffee while warming my old bones.

SOTD is my top 2 from 2016- Amber Flush Body oil layered under MFK Grand Soir! Goodbye 2016! You weren’t ALL bad but I’m ready for better in 2017, both personally and professionally.

The crud is finally departing as well, and though I still have some symptoms, the crushing fatigue is gone. That’s reason enough to celebrate????

Best wishes to you all in the coming year! Hoping 2017 is packed with outstanding perfumes, experiences, travel, friends and family, and most of all, good health! ✌????

    A Fragrant hello to everyone.
I have been under the weather and now feeling back to normal again.
We had to post pone our holiday plans since I was having fevers on and off, but we managed to not totally ruin the holidays for the babies.

I am in Shalimar body powder, smells nice without being too much. When I am sick the last thing I want to do is smell perfume..

Cheers to 2017! I hope its better than I think it will be!

Trying to decide what to wear for New Year’s Eve. Right now I’m wearing SL La Myrrhe, a strong contender, but considering switching to Amouage, either Gold or Beloved, later on. I feel like I could use a bit more sparkle, though…

I tried Frapin 1697 last night, which I usually like, but it got on my nerves this time. I don’t like YSL Champagne. I’d love to wear Chanel Coco for New Years, but the event won’t be dressy enough.

What perfume are you going to wear?

      Love La Myrrhe!

Not going out for NYE, though, so I can wear whatever I want. Staying home with the fam.

I enjoyed La Myrrhe all day before switching. In addition to smelling great, it has just the right amount of projection and persistence. What did you wear?

I think of Coco as classy, not necessarily dressy. I think it would be great for New Year’s.

Have the same dilemma–casual gathering, but I’m thinking of breaking out one of my vintage Diors–either Diorling or Diorama, they both sort of say NYE for some reason.

My vote is for Gold (not that I don’t like your other contenders).
Tonight I’ll be wearing Ormonde Jayne Ta’if: it’s the only “special occasion” perfume in my collection that hasn’t got any skin time this holidays season since I was “saving” it for the favorite holiday.

Wishing everyone here at Now Smell This a fabulous 2017! Let’s start the countdown to midnight!

I’m finishing this year with a Prada, I chose Marienbad from Olfactories collection. Smells very warm with a nice booziness to it.

Not exactly a resolution but in 2017 I want to try a couple of fragrances I missed in 2016, such as Cartier L’Envol, Hermes Galop and Diptyque Essences Insensees 2016.

Cheers to wonderful 2017! May it be a good one!

Went to yoga with three family members this morning wearing Eden Botanicals Labdanum 10% all over body (exquisite smoky amber scent and the best value going) and Eden Botanicals Coconut Pulp on wrists. I am still working my way through all of my essential oils and realizing how absolutely fabulous they wear as natural perfumes.

Hope everyone has a very happy and healthy 2017!!!!

Happy New Year to all. I imagine many of us are delighted to see the end of 2016. Here’s hoping for the best 2017 possible.

I will be out at a party or two tonight. Not sure what to wear, although I like the Coco suggestion above. Maybe Bal a Versailles?

One good thing happening in 2017 is that I will be visiting Denmark for work in January! Is anyone from NST in Copenhagen or Ribe? Any perfume recommendations for either of those places?

    Checking in from London!

SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP

SOTE = probably Jo Loves Pomelo

I have to counteract the super strong ouds wafting about. Today, we visited the Courtauld Gallery and the Abstract Expressionism exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Yesterday, I was lamenting not being able to make it to Jo Loves but planned to visit Harrods instead. Well, plans changed and I ended up having a fabulous lunch at Fortnum & Mason (at the casual one near where the Porcelaine tea sets are displayed). Then I took a cab to Jo Loves, turned in my certificate for Pomelo (instead of Smoked Plum & Leather) and the Pomelo Hand and Body Cleanser, browsed around Les Senteurs perfume boutique (a big surprise since I just chanced upon it on the same street as Jo Loves) and then took a cab back to the hotel. Oh, and at Boots earlier today, I saw YSL Kouros on sale and got the 50 mLs for £23 (free, no?) – enabler pin to Bear, over a year since he mentioned it.

Note to pixel – the Mango Thai Lime didn’t wow me. The Gardenia one was also not included in the Discovery Set but no big loss for me since it smelled more of jasmine to me than gardenia.

Note to Creosote – the fog was in evidence yesterday and through today. I guess one doesn’t come to London in winter expecting bright blue skies :-). BM was fabulous as usual!

And thanks to everyone who commented yesterday. I’m afraid I won’t have a Harrods report to share but then again, I’ll be here for several more days and may have other shopping adventures!

Now I’m off to squeeze in a little bit of exercise so I can stuff myself in good conscience for the New Year’s festivities.

    Happy New Year everyone!

Happy New Year! I lived around the corner from Harrods in the sixties and seventies. They had a disco and an exotic zoo in the store back then! I’m not sure if the current perfume offerings would be as enticing..

    2016 can’t end soon enough.

My perfume resolution for 2017 is to enjoy what I already have and not buy anything new. That will be sorely tested in late spring when I go to all the flea markets of Amsterdam and Brussels, but vintage doesn’t really count, as far as I’m concerned, and vintage bought on vacation doesn’t count double.

Well, we walked down past the Plaza de la Merced, up Mundo Nuevo to the tunnel under the Arab Palace, and down through the hillside gardens to the harbour. Now sitting in the sun drinking coffee and tea. It’s not hot sun, but certainly warm enough to sit outside and watch the people walking by.

If I look from left to right, I can see the ferry to Morocco which will sail tonight, the Ferris Wheel, and the cathedral with its famous missing second tower (funds stolen by a radical bishop and sent to the American revolutionaries). Then the trees of the Paseo del Parque with the Arab Palace and the walled track up to the Arab Castle on to of the hill. In the foreground a line of yachts and dinghies bobbing about.

A few more days of this and I won’t remember how to even spell the word stress. :^)

SOTD is SSS Tabac Aurea for its lovely, soothing quality.

Which I need. I was finishing my Christmas shopping two weeks ago when a young woman who was paying no attention to traffic slammed into my car. I wasn’t hurt (well, bruised and quite shaken, but nothing else), but because of the holidays, car can’t be repaired until next week. Grrrr…..

Then we took our most recent litter of foster kittens back to the shelter. No good deed goes unpunished because the heretofore unknown about fleas from said kittens stayed behind with us. Raise your hand if you enjoy vacuuming, because you can come over to my house and do it the recommended every.single.day to help get rid of them. Argh!

For me, 2016 is ending pretty much as badly as it went all year long. Good riddance!

(And thanks for letting me vent; I know there are people all over the world whose problems are much worse. I just wish there hadn’t been an unending supply of these kinds of frustrations all year. Here’s to a better 2017!)

I don’t mind vacuuming, and if I could do it for you I would. I’d always rather clean than cook, actually, so if you’d keep nice hot tea coming and throw me an occasional piece of bread-and-butter, I’d gladly do your vacuuming.

Morning all, from the beginning of 2017. Last night in the city was rather noisy –I think the last of the revellers wound their loud and inconsiderate way homewards at about 6 o’clock– so chez Waterdragon, we’re off to a gentle, slow start. I don’t do resolutions, but I do set myself some things to contemplate, and I each week I carry them forward on the notes page of my diary so I don’t overlook them when I’m busy or miserable. This year, I found I could make an easy anagram: “L.A.R.C.H.E.”. So, my diary (coincidentally, a Moleskine one, Robin) is now set up. I enjoyed doing it, actually. For no reason at all, I drew a patchwork elephant on the front page and added a quote from John Donne and fir this week, a bit of scurrilous verse my father taught me, and that, together with a glorious cloud of Traversee du Bosphore, seems as good a way as any to start a better year.

I hope 2017 sparkles for all of us. We need a year that’s full of light.

I took the wrapper off my new diary and agendas for 2017 last night and started writing in them this morning, I love starting with a fresh notebook! I use the German brand Leuchtterm, selecting a different colour every year – this year is aqua blue/teal. I had a Little Prince one last year for my budget notations, which was fun. Wishing you a wonderful 2017!

I’m wearing YSL Champagne, an emerald green velvet dress, dotted black tights and pink velvet heels. A bit seventies, but works for me.

I’ve had some champagne (of the non-perfume variety) already, so just dropping in to say I love you all and have a fantastic evening and a fabulous New Year!

Wishing you all a wonderful, joyful New Year! I’m currently in L’Attesa because le swoon and because it’s been one of my favorites from 2016. Last night I got the party started early in vintage Champagne parfum, and tonight I’m scheming some combination of Peche Cardinal and No. 5 Eau Premiere to go with our bubbly.

After years of not going out for New Year’s, we finally had a reservation for dinner at 6 but the snow had been falling heavily all day. Husband took a trial run the four blocks to the main road with the truck but had to abandon it due to ice under the snow. We live far up on the side of a mountain. Today he managed to move it to a safer parking place before he can even get it home. Tonight it’s spaghetti and meatballs. He’s a fantastic cook; I’m not.
SOTD: Miss Dior EDP original. Smells off! Tried the EDT of it too but still can’t get past the dryness which I usually like. So I have concluded that I prefer Diorella.

Scent this morning was Alamut as we headed out early to see Rogue One. First showing is bargain matinee. We only realized right before we headed out that the movie was in the Times Square area. Luckily, it was early enough to not be a challenge. Much more crowded when we emerged from the movie. Far more cops and the big sanitation truck barricades were moving into place. We walked to a Greek diner for BLTs, soup and lemonade – isn’t that a traditional NYE lunch?

We will stay in tonight for filet, potatoes cooked in duck fat and some cheese fondue. And football. And I’ll just keep refreshing the Alamut….

    Happy New Year all!

I’m about to take a nap so I can be sure to be awake at midnight – I want to kick 2016 in the behind as it skulks away. Worst year ever. However, a bright spot was rediscovering my love of perfume and discovering this wonderful community – you are all amazing, funny, smart and beautifully-scented.

My scent this evening will either be Hiris (blue thoughtfulness) or Gris Clair (grey introspection) if I’m feeling quiet. However, I may wear bubblegum chic to get 2017 started on a silly, fun note.

Stay safe, cherish those you love, and have an amazing 2017!

I spent a fair amount of this afternoon getting the back yard ready for another (and the coldest yet) arctic blast due to hit us in a few hours, and now plan to ring in the new year quietly with 24 Faubourg and a glass of Malbec. Would those of you with more energy than I please give 2016 an extra kick in the rear for me as it exits our plane of existence? :) Happy 2017, all.

Happy New Year to all! It has to be better than awful 2016. I am wearing Hinoki Vanilla today. Was going to put something different on for the evening, but that one does linger! So we’ll see. We’re still having unseasonably warm temps with 66 degrees and a lot of fog here in Galveston. I broiled some (frozen but still delicious) barramundi for dinner tonight and my family and I are going to a small party in my mom’s condo building later tonight. May not even make it to midnight but I’ve got a good mystery to read and some nice Prosecco!

I couldn’t get on earlier, page was unavailable, so Happy New Year to all NST folk!
I picked citrus and played with my uncle’s new dog all day today while wearing Azemour to blend in with the fruit trees. This afternoon I switched to Epic to go out for dinner (because work boots and a sweaty tee shirt aren’t very glam and only Amouage would do to cover the scent of canal-dampened dog). I’m spending the rest of the evening holed up in our motel room, praying that nobody steals the fruit out of the truck and hoping I have time in the morning for another romp with the big, slobbery puppy.

Happy New Year NSTers. Thank you all for enriching my life each and every day with your humor, generosity, and wisdom.

Today I was skiing and it was sunny and warmish (for a mountain) until after lunch. The wind picked up and pretty much blew the snow off the mountain, leaving mostly ice and rocks. It also blew me down the mountain until I could get in the shelter of some trees. My body acted like a sail and fortunately there was nothing in my way. My knees are aching and I see a hot shower and some Advil in my future. My celebratory drink is Crispin Honey Cider, wonderful stuff (the pear is awesome too) and I will be having pigs in a blanket as well. Only four hours until midnight Zzzzzz…

We enjoyed New Year’s Eve activities which was an (off)off-Broadway show called Career Suicide by the comedian Chris Gethard. It was a very tender and honest cimedic account if his struggles with depression and alcoholism. Then back to Brooklyn for Indian food with friends. Home by 10pm and will likely not be able to stay awake for another hour. I can still smell the remnants of my Calligraphy Rose from earlier today. Another blind swap success!
Wishing everyone blessings of health and fulfillment in the coming year. I’m also grateful for this warm and fun community. I can always count on at least this part of my day to be enjoyable. Thank you Robin for your tireless devotion.

Yesterday was very busy shopping for NYE dinner and cooking with my kids who are visiting from NYC. SOTD was Theorema. It was like the days of baking cookies with them, but they were showing me how they use the mandolin, prepare herb rub for leg of lamb, and decant wine. We played the phone trivia game “Heads Up” while waiting for the ball to drop. So far, 2017 is a terrific year!

Hello, all. It’s still quite early here–not quite 6 a.m.– but I’ve been awake for hours. One of THOSE nights, you know? Bad dreams, all silly stuff but still nasty, woke tense and worried then couldn’t relax back to sleep. Very tiresome! Still, the nice thing about holidays is that I can nap after lunch if I want, and I probably will want.

SOTD is Galop, because why not? It’s still in its bright opening phase, and it is soooooo pretty. I had wondered if it would be a better winter perfume than a summer one, but t seems to adapt itself well to warm(ish) weather–it blooms gently, revealing new facets over a few hours before it unifies its disparate elements into a pleasing, warm, dark red scent that stays close to the body (I think). I love this stage: it makes me think of walking into a room that has no light source but a dying fire.

Today, I’m scentless! My bestie and her hubs are coming over tonight for football and snacks, and she is extremely sensitive to ALL scents. LOL! No need to aggravate sinuses…

SOTD for Sunday was Jovoy “La Liturgie des Heures”, which is a quite churchy incense with decent lasting powers.

    Top: green notes, cypress;
    Mid: incense, olibanum, cistus, myrrh;
    Base: musk.

Reminds me a bit of N-Cigale’s “Pin Mystic”, so I’m not sure I need this one, but I’ll add it to the longlist for the record.

Happy New Year! i’m checking in from a rainy London. SOTD was Jo Loves Pomelo and I was commando this evening.

The New Year’s Eve Medieval Banquet was a lot of fun. It was held in the dungeons at St. Katherine’s Dock near the Tower of Lomdon. My group wore jester hats or crown props while others were in costumes. We had a wrench serving us and we were encouraged to yell out WENCH when we needed something. Due to tight quarters, the meal was served family style. The first course was a tasty mushroom soup and we were encouraged to sip from the bowl (and we were not given spoons); I managed to eat mine without wearing it. Other courses included smoked salmon, beef, foi gras, steamed vegetables, scalloped potatoes and a chocolate mousse cake. We were entertained in between courses by singers, contortionists, jugglers and a sword fight. Overall, it was a fun party!

Today, we visited the Victoria & Albert Museum, saw The Railway Children at the King’s Cross Theatre and had High Tea at the Belvedere Hotel. Tomorrow is my last full day in London and I will be sad to leave it…but I’ll likely be back at some point in the not too distant future. Nozknoz – I was in the Perfumer H vicinity but the boutique was closed today and I doubt I will make it there tomorrow. This is on my list for the next visit!

Happy New Year’s Day, NSTers! Mr. Jalapeno and I went over to a party that some friends were having last night, and we got back home a little later than I had anticipated. So today was a late start.

Yesterday’s SOTD was Mitsouko, because. Someone here had mentioned it earlier in the week, and it was a perfect match for how I felt and the weather. Today’s SOTD is Nirvana Black… I needed something calming after yesterday’s excesses, however wonderful they were.
