Happy Almost-Friday! It's also the fourth day of Kwanzaa, the fifth day of Christmas, and the sixth night of Hanukkah. There are three days left (including today) to go until 2017. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm on the fifth day of the crud, which is not quite so festive. I am feeling better, though, and I'm wearing a small spray of Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré. Many, many thanks to everyone who wished me better health yesterday and sorry I did not join in the comments at all!
Reminder: on 12/30 we're doing the Best of 2016 — wear one of your favorite fragrance releases of 2016.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016 (or Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017), where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is from the Hermès Grandeur Nature campaign, Fall 2016.
Berdoues Grand Cru Vanira Moorea….definitely the best fragrance gift I purchased for a family member who is kind enough to share it with me 🙂
Robin, glad to hear that you are a wee bit on the mend…assuming so , given the fact you are wearing fragrance today!
Love your ever changing avatars! Pretty sure I have gained 5 pounds just looking at them ????
thanks Deva! that is a lavender cake from a local bakery…she uses lavender food grade oil to flavor it and it is absolutely delicious…I think I may stick with this avatar for a while and then eventually go back to the edible three eyed owl 🙂
Thank you! I feel nearly half human today. Can’t remember the last time I was sick for so long, yuck.
Well, I hope tomorrow you feel one hundred percent human 🙂
Wearing Dior Hypnotic Poison to please mainly my dog 🙂 For some weird reason this is one of the few perfumes that does not make him run away when I am spraying on it. In fact, he comes closer and stays around, perhaps enjoying it! Glad to know that you are feeling better today Robin.
I love that your dog loves this scent- adorable!
🙂
Well I’m with your dog — you smell great!
Thanks!
Bois d’Encens from my new bottle. I’m completely smitten. Such a wonderful and calming scent. Glad to hear that you feel well enough for Néroli Doré!
It’s a start! Congrats on your new bottle.
Great stuff, congrats!
Ostara, which I cannot help comparing to Seville a l’Aube every time I wear it. I find it very nice but prefer Seville…
Oh, me too!
It definitely has that Duchaufour signature.
SOTD is Serge Lutens “Arabie” to accompany the other Mr Koenigsberg and me as we fly out to Malaga for the New Year. I spent the whole of yesterday getting receipts from 2016 into order, annotating and cross-referencing with cover sheets, company credit card bills and money transfers. I had hoped to get as far as scanning them (oh, such a dull and grown-up Christmas wish!) but that must wait for February now.
I have packed a pile of perfume samples to see me through January so some fun weeks ahead. I shall also be starting on a book (about Programme Management Offices, and therefore probably not going to feature Harry Potter or trouble best-seller lists) which is not something I have previously considered doing. I have a suitcase full of reference books and cynically wonder whether these or my gym gear will get the least use during the month.
Get well soon Robin! :^)
Have a lovely month in Malaga, that’s sounds perfect!
Have a wonderful holiday, you certainly earned it!
Enjoy your trip and best wishes and luck on your new project! And you’re smelling mighty fine today.
Hope you can squeeze in a chapter on perfume. Maybe under office essentials or how to win that multi million dollar contract. Good luck. Happy holiday.
Have a great time in Malaga!
Enjoy your vacation… it sounds like a wonderful break!
Glad you are feeling a bit better today. Hoping for a crud-free NYE for you.
Dame Perfumery New Musk Oil today. Musk, lemon and plum hovering just off the surface of my skin.
Love that Dame…so versatile and easy to wear…you smell great!
I am hopeful!
Made an scent oopsy daisy this AM! Put on a dab of Crema di Latte, and when I got to work and logged on to Basenotes, I saw in my notes that 2 coworkers do NOT enjoy it! HA HA Already washed it off, so will be scentless until I get home…. 🙂
Glad you feel better, Robin! We have cancelled our trip to Nashville this weekend (belated Christmas with my family) because 1/2 the family is sick with the crud up there! Me no want to start 2017 with the crud, if we can help it! LOL!
Wow, how nice you are to your coworkers. They are very lucky. Be well, I recommend lots of spritzes to fend off illness, perfume-grade alcohol is the best germicide. 🙂
LOL! We work in a very small room, so I do try to be thoughtful! 🙂
Thumbs up for feeling better! Glad you at least able to enjoy fragrange today.
Commando at the moment sitting in the back yard with coffee watching T-Rex zoom around like a ping pong ball. Wish I had that kind of energy!
I’m going to stick with something simple and uncomplicated today as far as scent goes- leaning towards Un Bois Vanille. Pretty sure that will hit the spot. Looking forward to the weekend because 1) I’m done with 2016, 2) I have Sat, Sun, and Monday off work, 3) I will begin my van project, and 4) New Years Eve morning I will be attending a special hour and a half spin class. It will be pretty tricky trying manage both sweat and snot. ????
Happy Almost Friday Day to all, and to those dealing with the crud, I’m sending extra healing vibes your way!
I am so done with 2016. Probably will be done with 2017 on about January 7 😉
Sampling Parfumerie Generale Limanakia which is so far a bright sort of salty scent on me. I have a sampling problem as I have once again failed to try on skin more samples than I have acquired during the past year. Sigh.
I failed at that too. Am going to avoid buying samples this year.
My problem is winter: a)I spend more time indoors aimlessly browsing around the internet and b) getting little packages in the mail tends to cheer me up
Similar problem here, but I’ve cut wayyyyy back on sample buying already. Part of it is I have plenty of options here for in person sniffing so I’ve set a “rule” for myself that if it’s available in a shop, I will go sniff it there instead of buying on line. So far, I’ve been pretty good about that. The only danger there is the temptation to buy something while seeing all the shiny objects.
I have a problem in that I did try all the samples, but don’t remember what they smelled like in 85% of cases. Which usually means, when I go back, that they fail to impress me, but I do need to adopt some kind of a system of making notes.
I use a small address book. I enter the scents under the name of the perfume house.
My system is very quick and to the point–
No or yes. Maybe a half a sentence of description.
One to five stars.
Just so I don’t have to try them again.
Your address book is perfect for recording sampling notes. I tried using a spreadsheet, but a little book sounds much more fun.
I like your system and will adopt it in the new year.
I have a journal for the samples I try. If I really don’t like it, it immediately goes into the discard bin so that I don’t waste time on it again. Some I mark to try again in another season.
I recommend http://www.basenotes.net to keep notes! 🙂 It’s totally free, can be accessed from my phone (ie. at the beauty counter), and I can make notes on any scent, anytime.
Bonus: You can post your SOTD there, and if you do it regularly, you will see which scents you wear often…and which get ignored! LOL!
Today is Friday for me (my company thoughtfully gives us two days off around both Christmas and New Year’s Days), which is improving my mood substantially over what it has been the past couple of days. SOTD is Naomi Goodsir Or du Serail.
Oh, you smell good!
House twins in Eau des Merveilles.
Let’s make that house triplets and scent twins, I’ll join you in Eau des Merveilles today.
Hey house twin! We smell great.
Trying Dame’s Leather Man for the first time today. I love how unisex his fragrances are.
Me Too! I love Dark Horse.
Me three!!!
Oh yes Leather Man is definitely great on a woman! I think i may actually enjoy his men’s line even more than the female line (although I like all of those fragrant offerings too!)
I’m wearing Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint today.
I’m so glad you are getting better, Robin.
Love, love, love that one. Nice wibter fragrance!
Edit: winter
Thank you!
I’m wearing Tauer Rose Delight body oil which is one of my best of 2016.
Glad you’re feeling less cruddy today, Robin!
You smell glorious. Just lovely.
Thanks!
One of my faves from this year, too — you smell great!
Thank you! Everything from price to smell to performance is a winner with this one IMO.
I just got mine a few days ago and haven’t tried it yet. I think that will be what I will wear this today. So, i am going to copy off of you.
Wow, a few days ago and you haven’t tried it yet? I’m impressed by your restraint ???? Report back on how you like it!
One of my picks too.
Adieu Debbie Reynolds.
What a year.
Other than me getting into my People’s Republic of Portland house, yeah.
I will not be sorry to see this year go.
I must have missed your update. Good housing news? Well, any good news is, well, good!
Glad you are feeling better, Robin!
Still scentless. Having a very lazy morning and trying to decide what would be good on this rainy winter day.
Hope you are smelling fantastic by now!
I’ve been sick this week too. I swear I only get sick around the holidays. I’m wearing Angel Muse.
So sorry! There sure is an awful lot of illness going around. You do smell great though.
I have the crud, too. Ugh. Wearing Phylosykos to transport me to Greece, or, at least, somewhere sunny.
Ugh! When I have the crud I get myself to a sauna, drink a gallon of water and just sweat and ooze. It does not kill the virus, but drinking all that water, sweating and oozing does make the body feel better!
Oh dear, hope the Philosykos is helping!
A wonderful tip for staving off the winter plague is drinking hot turmuric tea with a splash of black pepper (the black pepper activates the turmuric) a little ginger and lemon and a dab of honey. I have tried it and it really can stave off a cold. Love Philosykos – one of the most magical scents of all time. Also, Hermes. Any of their fragrances are wonderful. I love all the Le Jardin scents and 24 Rue Faubourg. Get well all!
Oh bummer! Hope your bout of crud is short.
Wearing Mitsouko, just because. I was reading somewhere about ancient perfumery in India, and listed were best flower fragrance, Jasmine, best wood fragrance, Red Sandalwood, best root fragrance, Black Gum. Anyone have any idea what Black gum might be?
hm, never heard about it, but I can ask the herbalist guy here in Tiru.
A root fragrance called Black Gum.
I don’t know if it has anything to do with the tree know as Black Gum in North America, I guess I would be surprised if it did.
Black gum appears to be a tree (or, perfume-wise, probably a resin from the tree). From Wikipedia: Nyssa sylvatica, commonly known as black tupelo, tupelo, or blackgum, is a medium-sized deciduous tree native to eastern North America from the coastal Northeast USA and southern Ontario south to central Florida and eastern Texas, as well as Mexico.
I think Mitsouko was made for ‘just because’. You smell great!
🙂
I’m having a delicious Violet & roses themed day today- Lush’s Ro’s Argan body butter/conditioner, (which is just like Rose jam shower gel!) Kusmi Violet tea, fortnum and masons Rose & violet creams, and Misia. lazy day enjoying my lovely Christmas presents, I’m reading a wonderful book my mum gave me, called ‘The Essex Serpent’by Sarah Perry, recommended for lovers of Victorian, gothic fiction, Sarah Walters said ‘.. a novel to relish; a work of great intelligence and charm, by a hugely talented author’.
The cover is beautifully illustrated too, in white, blue and gold so it was especially nice to receive for a Christmas gift.
You smell delicious, and given the book, very appropriate!
Kusmi violet twins! 🙂
It’s such a nice one!
Just googled the author and book. Wish I had that book with me this weekend for my escape from ‘holiday with the inlaws!’
Oh dear, I think it would have been perfect, it’s really absorbing, a good distraction for sure!
I love that tea. I did some Kusmi shopping in Lille two days ago: I got that pretty anniversary tin of Tsarevna tea (the tea is nothing special, but I love the tin) with matching matryoshka-shaped biscuits and sugars. And I replenished my Kashmir Tchai stash.
That’s such a nice tin, and I didn’t know about the biscuits and sugars, how sweet!
What is the Kashmir Tchai like?
You smell delightful!
Thank u!
Started the day with Kusmi black tea with rose petals, moving on perfume-wise with PHI Rose de Kandahar.
mmmmm… Rosy! You inspire me to put on some JM Red Roses before bed.
Hi All!
1) Back in the office for End of Year reports and lab book closing. Yeesh, I sound adult like and everything!
2) Jeeze, do I have Jo Malone samples! So used up Peony and Suede, layer with the last (thank goodness) of Incense and Cedrat. I smell very good indeed.
3) Outfit for the day: Navy blue sweater, dark bootcut jeans and a pair of old Isabel Marant star wedge sneakers.
You do sound all grown up!
Robin, I’m so glad you’re starting to feel better! Wearing Liquid Crystal for the first time in rather a while — a good Christmas-season scent, all spiced oranges and greeny herbal liqueur. Still, Black Amber remains my favorite Agonist, and possibly my favorite incense. Someday a bottle will be mine…
Black Amber is amazing.
Thank you! I don’t think I tried Liquid Crystal but it sounds tempting.
It’s fairly linear, and thus its spicy/herbal orangeness reads a bit “room-sprayish” to my nose, but I think it smells great!
Thanks. I might need to sample that.
I’m wearing Kerosene Unknown Pleasures – it’s a sweet gourmand, but I’m still liking it! A Christmas miracle. I think it’s really nice.
I’ve got the full sample set: what else is good and should be tried immediately?
I really like copper skies.
I’ve been drawn to this one because of the name.
Unforsaken!
Noted, thank you!
My pick too.
Where did you buy a sample set?
Pretty Machine (LOTV)
Glad to hear you are getting over the Crud Robin. I hope it totally clears up soon.
I keep forgetting to put on perfume. But tonight I think I will use a little of the “Red Roses” decant I brought with me. The mosquitoes have been pretty bad, so a friend took me to a Khadi store near the main temple and I bought a mosquito net for the bed. There were two different ones available for sale, one that was “cotton” and 700 rupees and another that was “not cotton” and about 200 rupees. As far as I could tell they were both made out of plastic so I chose the cheap one! It’s bubble gum pink so it feels like being inside a barbie fort when I get into bed. It’s nice though because now I can sleep with the window shutters open and get some cool air circulating in the room.
When I got here I bought cinnamon and also frankincense incenses and seem to be using mostly the frankincense. It’s really nice! The cinnamon is also good but it is super strong so best used in the bathroom. I haven’t seen the big centipede since she disappeared into a crack, but I sure got a kick out of you guys’ stories about lobster cockroaches and other crawlies.
Getting ready for bed I can hear my housemates, a lady from Namibia via Berlin and another lady from New Delhi, laughing their guts out about something.
“Barbie Fort”, hee hee!
When I visited India a while back, I stayed at a “luxury nature resort” for a couple of nights. More like Girl Scout camp… anyway. The bathroom came complete with a dozen toads 🙂
I like the idea of Barbie Fort with frankincense burning.
“Barbie fort” made me burst out laughing! Hope it works well for the mosquitoes–all the more so if you’re one of the folks they find particularly tasty.
Must start planning our trip tomorrow down to LA, but the icy dread that sits in my stomach before every encounter with my inlaws has me ineffectually wandering up and down the stairs to chat with the kids, playing with the cats, and reading NST.
Applied a sneeze-inducing dollop of Bal A Versailles, which is making me feel a little better, but not any more efficient.
Yay, enjoy your trip to LA. Will you have a chance to sniff something new and wonderful?
Sorry about the in-law dread, perhaps you could focus on how nice it will be when it is over, and wear lots of perfume as a shield. 😉
Alas no sniffing. The contretemps have already begun over planning. . .
Spend your time thinking about which perfume(s) you will deserve as a reward 🙂 Hope it’s not toooo awful.
Sorry about the looming dread. I hope the visit isn’t too painful.
I suffer from chronic DoI (Dread of Inlaws) too. Even after 45 years, I can never muster sufficient stiff-upper-lipness to come through unscathed. My thoughts are with you!
AKA Disputatious Ogres Looming….
So sorry about the visit to the in-laws. Fortunately mine are deceased, but I still get to dread visiting my own parents. I think you should buy yourself an extra special bottle of perfume to compensate for the misery. Oh, and lots of booze during the visit, or some Xanax if you’re not a drinker. At least you can be pleasantly zoned out.
What is it about unavoidable people who manage to make you feel simultaneously the object of great unworthiness AND invisible? I wish my skin wasn’t so thin. Alcohol, sadly, at the point of refuge also immediately begins to induce a migraine. So I have refilled my Rx of Ativan… 😉 and am contemplating ordering the full sample set from Zoologist to buoy me along.
I am in MIL town. I think we should invent a MIL resistant spray, like Mother in Law OFF! It smells great to us but creates a MIL no go zone of three rooms. Good luck.
Hope the visit goes better than planned.
(I am feeling super, super lucky that my MIL is one of the nicest people on the planet. Not sayin’ Ha ha, your in-laws suck, just feeling grateful that I have a good one.)
Good luck and hang in there!
Hope the visit with your in-laws is brief!
I’m very curious to read the 2016 favorites tomorrow.
SotD = Eau des Merveilles
Thanks to Robin and madtowngirl for the fragrance/house inspiration, it’s a “Yes to Hermes!” kind of day. So often a scent from Hermes makes me feel great. And of several Hermes scents I tried but did not love I still appreciate them as something beautiful, just not for me.
I spent yesterday afternoon and evening at the cinnamon roll factory aka my mum’s kitchen. We baked close to 100 cinnamon rolls with my children and their cousins. My hands still smell like cinnamon this morning.
So sad about Debbie Reynolds. I shall wear MORE perfume rather than less despite yesterday’s foolhardy threat to abstain in protest.
Universe, take note: enough already.
Hey twin- we smell lovely! This is one of my desert island picks. As much as I love a good, heavy oriental, sometimes they can be a bit “much.” This one never is.
You’ve inspired me to put Ambre Narguile on my 2017 try list!????
I agree completely, EdM makes a great desert island pick. I find it nice any day, any weather, any mood, and you’re right, it is especially wonderful as a change after wearing more dense fragrances.
And yay for Ambre Narguile! I hope you will like it. I’m steadily using my 4 ml sample and see a 15 ml bottle in my future.
Yes to Hermes!
And wow, that is a LOT of cinnamon rolls. Who gets the 100?
Each child takes home a dozen cinnamon rolls and the rest go to neighbors and friends. We usually bake before the holiday, but this year school went until the 23rd. It seemed that the recipients enjoyed their belated treats as much or even more than in past years. 🙂
Nice!
I’m in Mojave Ghost. Does it violate a no-buy if you use gift cards? It definitely violates e spirit of “acquire no more perfume”. Pondering…
I’ve had an extremely grim holiday season, so I stopped posting because there was nothing good to share. However, I’ve read the SOTD comments each day, and want to say thanks to everyone for sharing their celebrations and wonderful selves. Reading these posts has been the highlight of my day for the past week.
Everyone get better! Pamper yourselves.
To me, no-buy means no-spend. So gift cards are definitely legal!
It wouldn’t count if someone gave you perfume, right? So gift cards used for perfume don’t count!!!
Argh. Very sorry for grimness.
As for gift cards. I would be quite alarmed to find one just lying about unused. Terrifying actually. The best thing would be to use it very quickly. A heroic act. And if you find yourself in the fortunate position of already knowing how to dispose of the wee flat plastic monster, well goodness, do it quickly! (Shivers, and melodramatically wipes brow. . .)
I think gift cards do not violate no buys….you are not spending any money, right?
Gift cards are really like free perfume. I am sorry about your grim week, i hope things get better soon. I sometimes don’t want to post negative things either, but this place has some of the most kind and supportive people around. Glad you are back, take care!
Sorry to hear it’s been grim. Hope it lifts very quickly, if it hasn’t already.
Agree with everyone who has said that gift card uses don’t interfere with a no-buy. It’s a shame to have them expire unused. Hope things are looking up for you.
Muscling through my last day before 4 days off and keeping cozy in Chergui.
Hope you made it through!
SOTD is Isabey Lys Noir from a sample. I am so surprised that I like this. I generally don’t like lilies or tuberose but this one is really growing on me.
I was away visiting friends over the holidays and sniffed Angel Muse, I liked the drydown very much but I don’t know if I need any. My friend’s husband wears Aramis and she dislikes it, so we stopped into Sephora and sniffed Platinum Egoiste, Spicebomb, Monsieur Li, and Dior Homme. She wasn’t wowed by any, but likes the smell of pine trees and the outdoors so I might try to get her some Juniper Ridge samples. Today I’m celebrating a sunny and cold day in Lolita Lempicka. I have no idea what I’ll wear tomorrow, it’ll depend on my mood!
It’s not pine trees, but if she likes outdoor scents, it would be worth trying Guerlain Vetiver. Or Annick Goutal’s.
CDG Black Pepper is quite interesting or Jo Malone Black Cedarwood and Juniper… Or Blackbird for pine (Olympic Orchids)
I love pine notes. Two scents that come to mind are Amouage Memoir Man – smells like walking through the woods in the Pacific Northwest. And the other is SMG Sideris.
Very good morning, all. Today is the day of ATOH (all the other housework) so I’m wearing an expression of grim determination, yoga pants and a T-shirt and Cristalle. Isabella is watching my activities with interest–“What, pray, is she doing now? and why?” When I finish cleaning a space, she kindly moves in and occupies it so that it quickly acquires a fresh layer of cat hair. Not for the first time, I’ve accidentally sucked a knitted mouse up the vacuum cleaner (it’s stuck, but I think I can get it out) and Dakkie is moving from room to room looking harried and put upon. Also, I hate dusting.
All up, it’s a gloomy Friday here. I wish I had put on Galop (for the Friday project) and a funky frock and gone out to meet a girlfriend for breakfast, or something. Hey ho…. I’m going to go and shift the furniture in the sitting room. Cristalle will get the job done!
Poor Dakkie cat! My cats all hate the vacuum, too.
I think if 2016 taught us anything,it is to LIVE.Every day!As if it was your bloody last.Wear those last drops of preciousness from a vintage longforgotten with abandon!Color your hair purple or cherry-burst red.Just.Live.SOTD!The fabulous and supercheap Perfumes for Kings and Queens(me of course, queen of this castle!!) Sheba.Green tuberose floral. One of those Pantone Greenery greens.I’m loving the color as a fragrance right now.Fresh in the heat and humidity,Have an awesome day people.P.S.Glad to see most of you still alive. No Joke.Kanuka:How are the fires there on your side?X
Preach.
Seconding this!
Yep. Totally with you. Live madly and without regret.
I think Kanuka is in Christchurch with her mother, and maybe doesn’t have wireless. I haven’t heard of another bushfire in NZ yet. The one she spoke of seems to have been a heartbreaking local occurrence only. It’s been contained.
That’s great if it has been contained. We’ve had similar on Table Mountain, where it took out a great chunk of indigenous “Fynbos” and Proteas. So sad to see the scorched earth afterwards.Table Mountain did recover quite phenomenally,I hope the same there in NZ.Hugs!
🙂
I’m glad you are still alive too!:)xo
Well ditto…miss lillyjo !xo
Hello sweet pea. I am learning how to use my phone for comments as I am at my mums WiFi free Zone bracing for a day at the Mother in Laws. No more fire at my home town, thanks. Perfume today is Vim, sunlight and Mr Muscle
Hiiii!Glad-and thank you!-for the quick pitstop here in comment-town!Glad the fires are out!Don’t start a new one at the in-laws,Ok?Lol!I love all those smell actually, especially the Vim-Grandma’s staple in bathrooms and showertiles!Lol,Enjoy!!!Xx
Hear, hear!
True that.
I will have to go research what came out in 2016 in preparation for tomorrow’s challenge. It might require more brain power than I can muster right now, though. Enjoying NOT working, and enjoying the last sunny warm-ish day before we head back to cool rainy weather.
No scent yet, I’ll be sampling… something.
Finished trying my Jo Loves sampler. Here’s Pixel’s notes, you may compare and contrast them with Hajusuuri’s notes from a couple weeks ago:
– Pomelo: Nice grapefruit open, some rose, persistent sour vetiver drydown. I adore vetiver, but not this.
– Red Truffle 21: Miscellaneous warm spicy meh
– Smoked Plum & Leather: Oh how I wanted to love this, but the leather went all band-aid on me, boooooooo
– Green Orange & Coriander: Herbal cologne
– No 42 The Flower Shop: Nice green stem open; then OMG peony 4-evah. Not a peony fan.
– White Rose & Lemon Leaves: Veddy British rose off-skin, lemon on-skin. Really not me.
– Fresh Sweet Peas: Fresh sweeeet sumthin. Nope
– Pink Vetiver: More of that sour vetiver in Pomelo
– Shards of Cedar & Red Thyme: Actually pretty nice; but this was too masculine for me. However, if you’re trying to wean a young man off Mallrat Juice, this would be a very good choice.
So, here I am with a gift card for a 50ml bottle and nothing to use it on. I emailed them to ask if I could use it on a bottle of Mango Thai Lime, but they said no, not in the US. Grumble. Might have to wait til my upcoming London visit (in June) and use the card in the shop. Grumble grumble. Grumble.
Guilds, sorry to hear nothing vowed you. I only tried Pomelo and Pink Vetiver – and both were nice but not FBs for me.
Interesting, thanks so much! Am I correct that you did not love Green Orange & Coriander?
Correct. Considering I’m not in general a fan of JM’s aesthetic, one could wonder why I bought the sampler… the answer was, I do like Mango Thai Lime, and thought I could use my gift card for that if nothing else worked out. Sounds like I’ll have to wait til I get to London next year to put that plan into action.
SOTD is Bandit. Wore it last night to dinner and drinks, and remembered how much I love it, how glad I am that it is once again cold enough to wear it, and how utterly “me” I find it when I am in my badass mindset. The faint trace that lingered this morning led me to apply another light spritz, even though my plans for the day extend only to household budget reconciliation and revising an article for publication — neither a terribly badass task, but I can dream.
Budgeting a household is totally badass!
I haven’t had any of that in ages. I should get some. It’s a great scent.
smack the hell out of that household budget!
The good news – I don’t have the crud! Thankfully!!
I beat it off last week with this:
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/12/15/baking-soda-used-to-treat-swine-flu-85-years-ago.aspx
Honestly people, this really works!
Bad news – I *do* have identity theft!! 🙁 I have spent untold hours on the phone the last two days, and today, trying to fix this. UGH!!!
SOTD: Krazy Krizia. It seemed appropriate for this “crazy” week!
Stay well you all.
Krazy indeed. They can steal your ID,but never your sillage…xo
Great point! 🙂
Good for you!
I’m glad you’re finally starting to feel better, Robin. Apocalypse averted!
🙂
Hope you get the identity theft fully sorted without much more trouble! A curse on whoever did that to you.
Thanks! Because of the type of information stolen, I think I was part of the recent mass IRS hack. So those hackers will be cursed millions of times over!
Yuk. ID theft is a total pita to deal with.
It’s sure worn me out!
I’m wearing dilettante, so I’m covered in case I don’t get to do the community theme tomorrow. Seeing lovely perfume friends later, so there’s incentive to get through the drippier, chore part of the day…
You smell fantastic, enjoy your time with friends!
I tried TF Velvet Orchid Lumenere today. Smells very much like the original. Maybe more citrusy. So far i like it ok. I will try it again when i am over this sinus infection. Keep getting better, Robin!
And you too!
Get-well-soon wishes to all suffering from the crud or the flu!
2016 deserves a big middle finger, so perfume-wise I decided to just wear a scent way too lavish for my ordinary day: MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 (from a sample).
At some point, I’ll brighten my day by watching and/or listening to Debbie Reynolds. I bet I can find a video clip with the ‘Told You So’ Dance from Will & Grace!…
RIP Debbie Reynolds. I feel so bad for Carrie Fisher’s daughter, imagine losing your mother and grandmother all at once like that.
Right? She and Carrie’s brother were the first thing I thought of yesterday when I heard Debbie had been taken to the hospital. What a cruel set of events.
Robin, the good thing about a Christmas cold is that one will likely feel OK in time New Years celebrations, and yet you have an excuse to make things easier for oneself.
Last night I tested Auphorie Zen. To my surprise, it reminded me a lot of the rare and costly Amouage Homage attar, but without rose. It’s good. Will try others later today.
Thank you, I knew there must be a bright side!
I put on some Cuir Ottoman this morning.
Happy holidays, everyone. Today I’m in Carner Barcelona Tardes. The first hour or two are amazing, but as it dries down it reminds me more and more of Kenzo Amour and Dior Hypnotic Poison. I like both, but was hoping this would keep the fabulous originality up, but I guess there’s only so many times one can reinvent the wheel. It’s very nice and if you like heliotrope and almond, it is a must try.
I have a question for anyone who’s ordered the new Sylvaine Delacourte perfumes… I was so intrigued by the descriptions for Lilyylang and Florentina, and wanted to find out if the buy one, get one was still going on. But the only info I could find is all in French, and my speech software doesn’t do nice things with French.
How did you place an order? How did you find out about the buy one, get one and is it still going on? I’d like to take the plunge but haven’t gotten any replies back yet from the email address I was able to discern.
Thanks so much and hope everyone’s having a happy holiday season whatever you celebrate.
I ordered the samples first for 4Euros and then I received an e-mail for the buy one get one free offer, I am not sure if it is still going on and it wasn’t something advertised on the site. I am sure they will reply though, their CS was great. I can send you their e-mail if you like, give me your e-mail and I will send you the info.
Hera, thank you so much! My email is mds4pak at sbcglobal dot com and a sample set would be fantastic as well! Thanks for your help.
Sorry but I am not able to send you the e-mail, could you e-mail me at herasuk@hotmail.com.
Checking in from London.
SOTE = SDV
Today, we happened to pass by Buckingham Palace during changing of the guards.
Also, little vidited Wallace Collection is fabulous!
Sounds like you are having fun and smelling marvelous! Safe travels!
Enjoy London. If you like Dim Sum and unusual teas, I can recommend “Yauatcha” near Berwick Street in Soho. Very stylish place. Sounds of The Universe and Yumm Chaa nearby if you like unusual music and, erm, more tea. :^)
A belated “bon voyage” to you! Enjoy that awesome city!
Fabulous anecdote!
Hajusuuri, I responded to one of your posts late yesterday with the suggestion that you look up Perfumer H, Lyn Harris’s own indie line and shop, if you have a chance. I also linked reviews there.
Thanks. I will try to check it out!
Robin, glad to hear that you are feeling a little better, despite the crud hanging on.
SOTD = sampling Stella McCartney POP. It is darn likable, but not quite “me”.
POP did not make a huge splash, did it? I never hear it mentioned.
No, it didn’t. I don’t ever see anything about it either.
Spending another delightful day on the couch in my nightie, reading perfume blogs. Last night I slathered my face with Evan Healy’s Whipped Shea moisturizer in the patchouli scent. It is a wonderful thick heavy cream perfect for winter weather. I have been getting whiffs of the patchouli all day – wonderful!
Another hectic day at work. I wore Le Parfum by Lalique today. I hope everyone is feeling better!
