Thursday scent of the day 12/22

Posted by Robin on 22 December 2016 168 Comments

Orange shredded gerbera

Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?

I cannot seem to make myself use up any perfumes this week, but today I went with a generous application of Le Labo Tubereuse 40, from a travel spray that I've been sort of hoarding.

Reminder: 12/23 will be Just Finish It Friday — finish a sample or decant you’ve been hanging onto for a long time, OR wear from a precious bottle that’s getting low. Big bonus points if you finish a bottle! (Suggested by Elisa)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016 (or Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017), where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

LOL! I have really good friend who has taught me a lot about minimalism…so I am working diligently on giving up my hoarding ways and that includes my perfume collection….I want to really enjoy and play with all that I have without the fear of discontinued or expensive/hard to replace…..at least this is where my mind is at these days!

I have been working on downsizing many things, esp. books, over the past few years — I do understand the impulse. And I don’t sob when I use the last of a perfume. But using it on purpose just to make it gone — I do that with shower gels all the time, but apparently, not with perfumes :-)

For me the perfume is the last final frontier (I have already massively downsized the books and clothes…in fact my mother literally shrieked when she recently looked in my closet!!!)….I am using the perfume lavishly and wafting in all of my glory…rather than being miserly or saving a few mls at the bottom of a full bottle.

I actually finished my sample of Noir Patchouli, but I have a back up sample. I would love a bottle of this, but I don’t need it. I might just get one of those cute minibottles though.

Tea is Chestnut Oolong. I was getting very tired of my Earl Grey Fleurs.

I think it’s cheating to use up something you have more of ;-)

      Chestnut oolong sounds lovely.

It so is, but I don’t actually like finishing things, except for teas. Chestnut oolong is very nice, at this time of year in particular.

    Finished my sample of Kashnoir
Layered it with a few puffs of Shalimar powder

Brewed black tea and added a hunk of ginger, cardoman pods and cloves. Little almond milk and a drop of honey

My sample of Parfumerie Generale Indochine. I have not finished it today, but I’ll probably use it up next time I wear it.
It’s a nice cozy scent – woody, peppery, creamy, with a mild honey note. I do not think I will run to buy more once it is gone, but I am enjoying this small decant.

PG is a line I would like to explore one day as I do like gourmands…how is the longevity, though? I have heard that the longevity is not always so good?

As with many lines (and PG is a BIG line!), I’d say longevity depends on the scent. Aomassai is my favorite, and it never fades away, ready or not! ;)

True. I did not try Aomassai, but as far as I remember Coze from the same line was very tenacious.

Indochine is a soft scent, not great in terms of longevity or projection. I put it first about 5 hours ago, re-applied about an hour ago and to be honest can barely smell it on myself at the moment.

Indochine lasts forever on me but most Perfumes do have a pretty good longevity on my skin. That being said, I think this is a perfume the wearer often becomes almost anosmic to. I wore it one day and then later in the afternoon I was complimented and had to really sniff deliberately to smell it to try to remember what I had put on. If that makes any sense at all. ????

Have a look at the PG website and see if the Origami discovery sets are of interest. There’s one for Parfumerie Générale and another that combines Pierre Guillaume Collection Croisière and Huitième Art. I think they’re pretty good in terms of ml per £, but many of them have not performed well on my extremely scent-eating skin.

Couldn’t resist the delightful cat cap of the original Cartier Panthere today. It’s miles away from my usual style (warm, sweet orientals 4eva), but a little tuberose never hurt anyone!

Finished off a lovely sample given to me by a generous NSTer of L’Artisan Jour de Fete, which wasn’t hard since it’s such a subtle starchy almond. Nice while it lasted.
I might have to dig in to my emergency decant stash in my bag when this wears off in an hour.
Although my BIL’s instructions this weekend were no gifts for adults(thank goodness as there’re a lot of adults), I did buy them a “house gift” since we’ll be staying there: Malin+Goetz Mojito soap trio in Dark Rum, Peppermint, and Lime. And whole perusing gifts at Twisted Lily, I accidentally tipped an Arquiste candle and the oils spilled out and it got on my hands. It smelled really good, too, so the SA siphoned off more oil into a vial for me which I plan to wear( it’s the Art Deco Velvet which is mostly vanilla and woods). I might just start wearing candles as solid perfume ????!

The candle as perfume idea sounds interesting.
The Malin+Goetz soaps are fun and yummy. I hope you brought Twisted Lily cards so that they can reorder after they use them. It’s a good collection for just about anyone.

I don’t buy them often at all, but I like Malin+Goetz skin care products.
There are so many candles that I’ve smelled and thought “I wish this were a personal fragrance”. And solid perfumes are just tiny candles with no wick, right?????

    Happy Almost Friday Day!

I feel wretched today but have too much to do to take notice. I mean business and dressed accordingly in my flannel lumberjack red and black check shirt, baggy jeans, and holographic Birkenstocks. The cherry on top is a hefty dose of Papillon Perfumes Solomé.

I have plans to Get. Stuff. Done. today or die trying. People around me may pass out from the mushroom cloud surrounding me, but I shall just step over them!

Oh yeah, lest I forget- Happy Holidays! Ho Ho Ho!

A single spritz of Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon, such a drastic name for such a gentle scent, mostly gardenia, wood, and smooth patchouli — nothing dragony about it at all.

It’s dragony in comparison to Baiser Vole, I guess! At least, it predates the consumer preferences for sheer.

My scents of the day are now Kimonanthe (nice but not me), Pistil Whip (still want), Half Moon (retry solo but probably want), L’Insomnuit (like), Jasmins Marzipane (like but dries down quieter than I thought it would), and Noir Aphrodisiaque (not really me)

Tokyo Milk Dark Novacaine No.85. The sample leaked so I have a bit left. There’s a blast of tart ginger and then an almost powdery but “fresh” vanilla drydown. I liked the name and the fragrance might be FB worthy during a Sephora event.

Oh dear….This Friday’s project doesn’t suit me at all! LOL! I’ve done the opposite, by buying a couple of new scents in the last few days. I’m going on a “No Buy with Very Limited Exceptions” in 2017. Hubby and I want to rip out our carpets and put down new flooring, so I need to cut back on ALL my little beauty habits. Goodness knows I don’t need a thing for quite a long while! I will make an exception for my birthday and Mother’s Day, OK? I mean, a girl’s got to have a treat every now and then…. :) My goal in 2017 is to thoroughly enjoy what I already have!

Made the mistake of attempting to finish a sample of original Fendi EDP that has gone off. I smell like cheap perfume-y soap. Although, now I wonder if this is the new formula? Has anyone actually smelled it? Enabler husband had to show off by leaving out another sample he drained today; AG Hadrien. ????

L’Occitane has a violet hand cream (and lip balm apparently). It’s OK – not my HG violet scent by any stretch, but an easy option at least. Curious to read others’ suggestions!

I wish Lush would make one with their Bathos formula. Are you listening, Lush? I would Buy. It. All.

    Thursday!

    1) Close to finishing a sample of Marc Jacobs Decadence. This is very pretty, and not decadent at all. The bottle design is a serious turn off, or I would buy a small bottle for summer evenings.

    2) Almond milk coffee with a biscuit. And holiday chocolate! And stollen! *makes plans for Zumba class later on*

Yum to all that you are eating…especially the stollen! and on a sad note my parents told me that they would not be able to honor my wishlist from Aldi’s as everything is sold out!!! Guess that means the six bars of chocolate covered marzipan that I ate over four days of Thanksgiving was my allotment for the year :(

Walk to the chocolate marzipan shop and only buy one bar at a time…six walks for six bars = 4000 calories . Walk all the way wihout standing on the cracks for added cardio, flexibility. Walk all the way on your hands for strength training. Job well done.

            What a mental picture.

For the last few weeks, we were based at a new office in St Denis, just north of Paris, and every day I walked past a circus school, the Académie Fratellini. Most disappointingly, the people going in there looked completely normal. Where were the unicycles, the ramshackle clown cars*, or indeed people simply walking to work on their hands?

*Our programme deserved to be sent home in one, to be fair.

That does sound yummy. I am imagining Coco + Vanilla Flash might smell a bit like a vanilla coke. I worked in an ice cream shoppe as a teenager and had fun combining the soda syrups. Vanilla syrup in root beer was nice, too.

Beautiful photo today. I love gerbera daisies, such a happy flower.

SotD = Zum Frankincense & Myrrh Aromatherapy Room & Body Mist.

This smells amazing. It was under $10US at Sprouts market yesterday, a true cheap thrill that smells rather luxe. Ingredients are water, essential oil, fragrance, and glycerin. Today I’m using it as a room spray. It would be gorgeous spritzed on fresh bed linens. This afternoon I’ll try it on my wrists and see how it wears.

When I was a child my mum often said, “It’s Thankful Thursday.” I’m thankful to make it through the week. How about you? ;)

Last week I finished a gallon of shampoo I bought sometime in the ’90s, so I am persistent if nothing else. Today I’m wearing Ashoka and thinking about doing another split of those little bottles. I’m finishing a decant of Mitzah, but I have another in the wings, so it’s not dire. What is a little dire is finding that most plastic-bottled decants are entirely worthless, and lead to evaporation. Some of the glass ones, too, aren’t great. Wrapping in parafilm/florist tape, might help a little…
