Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I cannot seem to make myself use up any perfumes this week, but today I went with a generous application of Le Labo Tubereuse 40, from a travel spray that I've been sort of hoarding.
Reminder: 12/23 will be Just Finish It Friday — finish a sample or decant you’ve been hanging onto for a long time, OR wear from a precious bottle that’s getting low. Big bonus points if you finish a bottle! (Suggested by Elisa)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016 (or Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017), where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Pacifica Avalon Juniper EDP…the full bottle is now done..tomorrow I am moving on to Tibetan Mountain Temple and will work on finishing that one over the holidays .
Oh, you are good! I don’t want to finish my TMT. I think I am not suited to this project.
LOL! I have really good friend who has taught me a lot about minimalism…so I am working diligently on giving up my hoarding ways and that includes my perfume collection….I want to really enjoy and play with all that I have without the fear of discontinued or expensive/hard to replace…..at least this is where my mind is at these days!
I have been working on downsizing many things, esp. books, over the past few years — I do understand the impulse. And I don’t sob when I use the last of a perfume. But using it on purpose just to make it gone — I do that with shower gels all the time, but apparently, not with perfumes
For me the perfume is the last final frontier (I have already massively downsized the books and clothes…in fact my mother literally shrieked when she recently looked in my closet!!!)….I am using the perfume lavishly and wafting in all of my glory…rather than being miserly or saving a few mls at the bottom of a full bottle.
Lots of points to you! ????
I actually finished my sample of Noir Patchouli, but I have a back up sample. I would love a bottle of this, but I don’t need it. I might just get one of those cute minibottles though.
Tea is Chestnut Oolong. I was getting very tired of my Earl Grey Fleurs.
I think it’s cheating to use up something you have more of
Chestnut oolong sounds lovely.
It so is, but I don’t actually like finishing things, except for teas. Chestnut oolong is very nice, at this time of year in particular.
Apparently I don’t either.
Finished my sample of Kashnoir
Layered it with a few puffs of Shalimar powder
Brewed black tea and added a hunk of ginger, cardoman pods and cloves. Little almond milk and a drop of honey
I love your tea concoctions! what I do with essential oils you do with tea…very creative and they always sound so delicious
Its nice to use spices and things around the house, and I am trying to use this black tea up!
That sounds heavenly.
That tea must be delicious!
My sample of Parfumerie Generale Indochine. I have not finished it today, but I’ll probably use it up next time I wear it.
It’s a nice cozy scent – woody, peppery, creamy, with a mild honey note. I do not think I will run to buy more once it is gone, but I am enjoying this small decant.
PG is a line I would like to explore one day as I do like gourmands…how is the longevity, though? I have heard that the longevity is not always so good?
As with many lines (and PG is a BIG line!), I’d say longevity depends on the scent. Aomassai is my favorite, and it never fades away, ready or not!
True. I did not try Aomassai, but as far as I remember Coze from the same line was very tenacious.
When my no buy is over I intend on buying a bottle from your shop (but it may be a while as I have to drain a bit more of my collection!!)
Just perused your shop online and I must say so many of the PGs sound lovely…and nice that they come in 1oz sizes!!!!
Indochine is a soft scent, not great in terms of longevity or projection. I put it first about 5 hours ago, re-applied about an hour ago and to be honest can barely smell it on myself at the moment.
Indochine lasts forever on me but most Perfumes do have a pretty good longevity on my skin. That being said, I think this is a perfume the wearer often becomes almost anosmic to. I wore it one day and then later in the afternoon I was complimented and had to really sniff deliberately to smell it to try to remember what I had put on. If that makes any sense at all. ????
yes that makes a lot of sense. I used to get the same thing with Noa…could not smell it on me at all but got loads of compliments throughout the day.
Have a look at the PG website and see if the Origami discovery sets are of interest. There’s one for Parfumerie Générale and another that combines Pierre Guillaume Collection Croisière and Huitième Art. I think they’re pretty good in terms of ml per £, but many of them have not performed well on my extremely scent-eating skin.
thanks for the tip
Chergui for me today and as this bottle is fairly new, I am not going to finish it.
Yum! That was my second choice for today. You smell great ????
You smell great anyway!
Oh, that sounds nice for a day like today. Good choice!
I have never smelled that one
I suggest sampling Cherguu during the colder months. I first tried it during the summer and thought it was awful. I’m glad that I kept my sample to test again this fall.
Please pardon fat fingers. ????
I think Chergoo is a great name for when you find it too syrupy.
Couldn’t resist the delightful cat cap of the original Cartier Panthere today. It’s miles away from my usual style (warm, sweet orientals 4eva), but a little tuberose never hurt anyone!
That cat cap is a delight. And miles away from the look of the new Panthere. I am imagining you smell regal.
Finished off a lovely sample given to me by a generous NSTer of L’Artisan Jour de Fete, which wasn’t hard since it’s such a subtle starchy almond. Nice while it lasted.
I might have to dig in to my emergency decant stash in my bag when this wears off in an hour.
Although my BIL’s instructions this weekend were no gifts for adults(thank goodness as there’re a lot of adults), I did buy them a “house gift” since we’ll be staying there: Malin+Goetz Mojito soap trio in Dark Rum, Peppermint, and Lime. And whole perusing gifts at Twisted Lily, I accidentally tipped an Arquiste candle and the oils spilled out and it got on my hands. It smelled really good, too, so the SA siphoned off more oil into a vial for me which I plan to wear( it’s the Art Deco Velvet which is mostly vanilla and woods). I might just start wearing candles as solid perfume ????!
The candle as perfume idea sounds interesting.
The Malin+Goetz soaps are fun and yummy. I hope you brought Twisted Lily cards so that they can reorder after they use them. It’s a good collection for just about anyone.
I don’t buy them often at all, but I like Malin+Goetz skin care products.
There are so many candles that I’ve smelled and thought “I wish this were a personal fragrance”. And solid perfumes are just tiny candles with no wick, right?????
Sounds great! Will have to try the soaps
I’m tempted to keep them for myself, but I’ll behave myself.
You have such great will power!
Happy Almost Friday Day!
I feel wretched today but have too much to do to take notice. I mean business and dressed accordingly in my flannel lumberjack red and black check shirt, baggy jeans, and holographic Birkenstocks. The cherry on top is a hefty dose of Papillon Perfumes Solomé.
I have plans to Get. Stuff. Done. today or die trying. People around me may pass out from the mushroom cloud surrounding me, but I shall just step over them!
Oh yeah, lest I forget- Happy Holidays! Ho Ho Ho!
Ha. Clobber them with Salome If it wasn’t so warm and humid here I would do the same. It was going to be my Christmas Eve scent but it’s supposed to be almost 80 degrees and drizzly so I’m having to rethink my perfume (and clothing) plans for the holiday.
Love it all- very bold! Good luck!
YOu go deva!!!!!
Knock em dead!
You look, sound and smell like business! Go get them, tiger!
A single spritz of Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon, such a drastic name for such a gentle scent, mostly gardenia, wood, and smooth patchouli — nothing dragony about it at all.
It’s dragony in comparison to Baiser Vole, I guess! At least, it predates the consumer preferences for sheer.
That’s a nice one. I used to wear that and alternate it with Boucheron Trouble ( the Trouble received a scathing review from Luca Turin which upset me at the time because I took his reviews seriously back then).
Larmes du Desert for me for frankincense, myrrh and gold. On a bus to NY right now, so if anyone feels like hanging out and going sniffing with me later today my screen name is my yahoo address
Have a great trip!
Oh I just got my bottle of this! You smell amazing.
I love the casual way you can drop in the line ‘ on a bus to NY right now’ . For me that would be the beginning of a major musical or a movie where Mark Ruffalo finds me asleep in a bin at the back of a diner and takes pity on me etc etc etc. Have great fun.
Oh, I wish I could go sniffing today! But we leave early am and I have loads to do after work. The sun came out for you, though. Hope you have fun!
Saw the windows at Barney’s, Bergdorf’s, and Saks plus the tree at Rockefeller Ctr. My scents of the day are now Kimonanthe (nice but not me), Pistil Whip (still want), Half Moon (retry solo but probably want), L’Insomnuit (like), Jasmins Marzipane (like but dries down quieter than I thought it would), and Noir Aphrodisiaque (not really me)
Tokyo Milk Dark Novacaine No.85. The sample leaked so I have a bit left. There’s a blast of tart ginger and then an almost powdery but “fresh” vanilla drydown. I liked the name and the fragrance might be FB worthy during a Sephora event.
I kind of liked that one myself, though it had something metallic going on, making it more fitting for the name. Definitely interesting and different.
I’m starting off in Grace Coddington’s mild rose again this morning. Thought I might finish my (large spray) sample but I won’t quite make it. I had three days of doctors visits this week so I couldn’t wear as much as I wanted.
Tonight is annual cat torture and cookie decorating. I can hardly wait to see Doolittle in a Santa hat. Hope I can snap photos quickly enough and nobody looses an arm
You smell wonderful.
Annual cat torture, haha! Enjoy
(Slightly related cat torture note, when one of our boy cats is being naughty, we pick him up, hug him tight and don’t let go until we’ve sang the naughty cat song, which goes: “bad cats, they get hugs, bad cats, they get love.” He knows it is pubishment, too, lol.)
Ha! On the rare occasion my cat needs discipline, I hold her like a baby, and say, “you’re the baby,” which she totally knows is punishment.
Haha, that’s so great!
It’s amazing how a face that furry can be so expressive.
Giving Dzing! an earnest testing today. It’s only been on a about 20 minutes and in that time has shape-shifted dramatically. Lots of tarry leather at the opening, but starting to drydown into something creamy and sweet. Interesting!
Such a fun scent!
Dzing! is such a wonderful scent, you smell great.
You smell great. Do you get the ‘cardboard’ some people smell?
SotD: I finished a sample of Bois 1920 Agrumi Amari di Sicilia. The first ten minutes are zingy citrus, then it turns into a laundry clean scent. I put a little Pacifica California Star Jasmine solid over the drydown.
S(ip)otD: Bubbly water.
I love fizzy water!
SOTD is Fou d’Absinthe. I still like it, but I think it’s better in slightly warmer weather. Not even close to finishing the sample–probably 3-4 uses left.
Oh dear….This Friday’s project doesn’t suit me at all! LOL! I’ve done the opposite, by buying a couple of new scents in the last few days. I’m going on a “No Buy with Very Limited Exceptions” in 2017. Hubby and I want to rip out our carpets and put down new flooring, so I need to cut back on ALL my little beauty habits. Goodness knows I don’t need a thing for quite a long while! I will make an exception for my birthday and Mother’s Day, OK? I mean, a girl’s got to have a treat every now and then…. My goal in 2017 is to thoroughly enjoy what I already have!
SOTD: Bvlgari Black.
Have a great day everyone!!!
PS. I’m also keeping Scentbird. LOL!!!!
LOVE your goal!!! I am doing the same
Me three – need to enjoy what I already have. But I am making exceptions for a few new releases.
“No Buy with Very Limited Exceptions” is perfect. And realistic. Sign me up.
And flexible! I always enjoy rules with great big loopholes
You smell fab. Your plan for 2017 sounds entirely reasonable to me!
Made the mistake of attempting to finish a sample of original Fendi EDP that has gone off. I smell like cheap perfume-y soap. Although, now I wonder if this is the new formula? Has anyone actually smelled it? Enabler husband had to show off by leaving out another sample he drained today; AG Hadrien. ????
Is hubby participating in the community project too?
Traveling today and wearing L’attesa, which in mind couldn’t be bothery to anyone! This is one of three or four bottles that I am moving through faster than I’d like!
Rainy here, which put me in the mood for Bois de Violette. Somehow I have to find a way to get more violet scented lotion to replace the discontinued Penhaligons Violetta. Any ideas?
L’Occitane has a violet hand cream (and lip balm apparently). It’s OK – not my HG violet scent by any stretch, but an easy option at least. Curious to read others’ suggestions!
I wish Lush would make one with their Bathos formula. Are you listening, Lush? I would Buy. It. All.
1) Close to finishing a sample of Marc Jacobs Decadence. This is very pretty, and not decadent at all. The bottle design is a serious turn off, or I would buy a small bottle for summer evenings.
2) Almond milk coffee with a biscuit. And holiday chocolate! And stollen! *makes plans for Zumba class later on*
I skipped my workout this morning but will resume tomorrow morning . Enjoy Zumba
Yum to all that you are eating…especially the stollen! and on a sad note my parents told me that they would not be able to honor my wishlist from Aldi’s as everything is sold out!!! Guess that means the six bars of chocolate covered marzipan that I ate over four days of Thanksgiving was my allotment for the year
yeah and I really need to get my act together and start working out again (besides yoga)…cardio in 2017!!! This is the problem when you are thin…you get lazy!!!!
Walk to the chocolate marzipan shop and only buy one bar at a time…six walks for six bars = 4000 calories . Walk all the way wihout standing on the cracks for added cardio, flexibility. Walk all the way on your hands for strength training. Job well done.
LOL kanuka!!! I like the way you think
What a mental picture.
For the last few weeks, we were based at a new office in St Denis, just north of Paris, and every day I walked past a circus school, the Académie Fratellini. Most disappointingly, the people going in there looked completely normal. Where were the unicycles, the ramshackle clown cars*, or indeed people simply walking to work on their hands?
*Our programme deserved to be sent home in one, to be fair.
I managed to check out the new Aldi’s near my parents a couple of weeks ago, and was disappointed to see no marzipan.
It must sell out super fast! I am going to remind my parents next year to go early!
Finished off my only Parfums de Nicholai sample today. Number One Intense is wrong for the season, but right for the weather – high in the 70s.
Excellent! You are the Number One Intense NSTer today.
I think it might be fun to keep all of my empty sample vials during 2017 so I know how many I can finish in a year.
I thought I’d try She-ra’s recipe of Coco with a dash of Vanilla Flash. She’s right, I smell yummy!
That does sound yummy. I am imagining Coco + Vanilla Flash might smell a bit like a vanilla coke. I worked in an ice cream shoppe as a teenager and had fun combining the soda syrups. Vanilla syrup in root beer was nice, too.
It smells hotter and spicier to me. More like a vanilla spice steamer or something. My sisters-in-law used to drink glasses of half coke half milk, but they never converted me.
Beautiful photo today. I love gerbera daisies, such a happy flower.
SotD = Zum Frankincense & Myrrh Aromatherapy Room & Body Mist.
This smells amazing. It was under $10US at Sprouts market yesterday, a true cheap thrill that smells rather luxe. Ingredients are water, essential oil, fragrance, and glycerin. Today I’m using it as a room spray. It would be gorgeous spritzed on fresh bed linens. This afternoon I’ll try it on my wrists and see how it wears.
When I was a child my mum often said, “It’s Thankful Thursday.” I’m thankful to make it through the week. How about you?
I am thankful for some sun outside and wine tasting tonight
thankful too and you smell great! my local health food store carries that brand and it is a bargain!!!
The Body Shop makes a super cheap ‘Sandalwood & Ginger Room Spray’ that smells like a nice quality amber to me. I figure if I spray myself with it, I’m scenting the room, right? Right?
Finishing my sample of DelRae Emotionnelle today. Oh why is DelRae so hard to buy? I need a full bottle of this, one day when it’s possible to buy it in Europe without facing the exorbitant mailing fees. I’ll end my wail here. I’ll still have Parfum de Therese to satisfy my melon needs.
I too wish DelRae would get a distributor in Europe again. Emotionnelle is gorgeous.
Delrae has gone AWOL in many places,it really is a pity!I get the standard answer here:”Discontinued because they did not sell”.It’s also sad we’re like 7 perfumistas in South Africa…lol.
SotD – Lye by Gabriella Chieffo
And – how is it? I had in mind to explore more of her stuff next year, as I have and like “Hystera”, but then I had a sample of “Ragu” that wasn’t great so I am less sure.
I managed to finish up a travel size bath gel yesterday, I think that’ll have to do for my ‘finish it up’ challenge. I have been trying to use up all those little bottles.
No scent yet — I have a bunch of small-size perfumes from Anthropologie that I have to try today so I can decide which one goes to which kid on Xmas. Shhh don’t tell them I snuck a spray…..
My lips are sealed. How could you possibly decide without really knowing how they smell? ????
Well exactly. It’s only considerate of me, really.
I may or may not have sniffed the Olfactif samples I got for my father-in-law. Had to be sure he would like them, didn’t I?
I’m continuing with my own project of testing Things I’ve Seen on NST and going through my Indiescents samples. Currently wearing Slumberhouse Pear + Olive. I don’t know why I was surprised that it’s a sweet fruity gourmand (seriously, Annikky, it’s called Pear + Olive), but it’s very nice.
And I tried DSH White Lilac yesterday evening (my first ever DSH) and God, it’s gorgeous.
Really, on the DSH@DSHPERFUMES.COM lilac?
Weird sprllcheck…I didn’the put that address in there.
Yes, the same!
Oh, I love White Lilac. It’s wonderful.
It really is. I completely understand why some people have been raving about it.
Following Hajusuuri’s encouragement, I dug around and found that I did still have a sample of Hermes Kelly Caleche. I think some of the top notes have gone a bit wonky, but it seems to have pleasantly intensified a little, too.
Have a great Thursday (or Friday), peeps!
A minute’s silence for the last spray of Skive.
Oh no! Will you repurchase?
I can’t picture you Skiveless!
May it waft in peace.
I think I’m more inclined to replace it with a FB of Chambre Noire. Or Immortal Beloved or Satin Doll.
Wearing JM Velvet Rose and Oud, which seems perfect for the season. I could pretend tomorrow that I drained a sample, but I actually did it yesterday. I splashed on my sample of Cuirs Carner with abandon – no eking it out. It’s pretty nice, but it’s still a couple of hundred dollars and it is a little masculine on me, as in “Some guy around here smells pretty nice.”
NO ONE SHOULD GET SMELL CREDIT BUT YOU!!
Tuberose Thursday Robin!Lol!I finally finished a little 7.5ml GWP Fracas rollerball…Yes,I know it is kinda cheating, because obviously I have a backup(s) of Fracas.Still,an accomplishment to finish it!Fracas was surprisingly well behaved in the heat today, plus with the end-of-year quiet and almost no patients(or patience!!!) at work,I can wear whatever I want!Lol!Happy Thursday people!X
If I were a patient, I’d certainly feel at least a little bit better if I smelled someone wafting Fracas!
I second that! would love to be your patient with all of your wonderful fragrances wafting about !!!
I am no where near emptying anything except stuff I don’t like (so they are evaporating while I cheer them on) but I did burn the last of my Thymes Fraser Fir candle yesterday. Last week I finished a gallon of shampoo I bought sometime in the ’90s, so I am persistent if nothing else. Today I’m wearing Ashoka and thinking about doing another split of those little bottles. I think I want some Mohur, but I have to test it first. No more blind buying for me.
LMK if you decide to offer any NV splits. I’m there!
Good for you and persistence. Slow and steady wins.
Heh, my mum used to buy hairspray by the gallon at the beauty supply store. The 80’s and 90’s were strange times for hair.
I used to buy Final Net spray by the gallon too! Now a single aerosol can takes over a year to use up!
Bookworm is home YAY, and she and I and Taz are going to go see “Fantastic Beasts…” this afternoon YAY, and I am alllllllmost done with the Christmas prep DOUBLE YAY. Wearing delightful MG Plum, from my almost-empty decant.
Enjoy it all! Always so wonderful having loved ones home. Still haven’t put up my tree…leaving that for the younger family members this year! I think (and hope!)that they will get around to it tomorrow.
Lush Vanillary. ‘Cause I need comfort. And Vanillary hits the spot!
I braved the crowds at Lush Antwerp last Saturday. I so don’t like the shops, but some of their scents are really, really nice. I liked Vanillary, but adored Lust, such a great jasmine. So you smell good!
Last working day of the year – yay! My mother is arriving this morning for a few days, which will be lovely. The weather is not behaving and it’s quite cold and blustery, but that’s nothing that a spray or two of 24 Faubourg can’t make better.
Have a wonderful Christmas with your mother. Hope there are some perfume bottles under your tree.
Just relaxing with a book having just made my rugelach dough and talked to mom.
Love not having an agenda and lots of yummy foods to eat.
SOTD for me is Volutes edt, & im not likely to empty this any time soon. Which is a good thing
No agenda and yummies? I am right there with you
Hello. SOTD = vanilla and brown sugar and chocolate –I’m making the dear man chocolate chippie biscuits (= “cookies”, lest I confuse). I have wholemeal bread rising (for me) and am toying with the concept of rosemary, garlic and olive bread too…I love having time to be domestic!
Tomorrow, very early– HIDEOUSLY early!– we leave for Whanganui, so I will be off line for a while. Be well and safe, NST. Arohanui.
have a safe trip!
I’m imagining how your kitchen smells: deliriously delicious.
My NZ friend Mr. Ruru oftens says, “Aroha nui ki a koe.”
I wish you a safe, well-scented journey.
Have a very Happy Christmas Waterdragon and good luck in Whanganui …escape down here if it gets too much.
All that baking is making me hungry. ???? Have a good trip!
I’m in Coromandel again. It’s so nice I’m wearing it twice…. this week. I think I’m on a bit of a patchouli kick. I think tomorrow I’m going to make a valiant effort toward using the last of my Patchouli 24 sample.
Coromandel is a lovely scent – one of my favourites. Only trouble is I don’t think the longevity is very great. I am a tried and true Patchouli lover and I think one of the best true Patchoulis is Santa Maria Novella.
I’m wearing a few small squirts of Chanel No. 22 today. My goal was to pick a fragrance that would not send me into a coughing fit.
I’m still trying to beat this sinus/ear infection I have going on. I feel a lot better than I did yesterday or the day before, but still nowhere near 100%.
I have a cup of hot green tea ready for me right now. I’m going to add some honey, and be all set to cozy up on sofa.
You smell great. Hang in there and keep getting better!
SOTD is the lovely Caron Tabac Blond, from my ever-dwindling decant.
I couldn’t finish my little sample of Tuberuse, so I feel ya on this one.
I’m finishing a decant of Mitzah, but I have another in the wings, so it’s not dire. What is a little dire is finding that most plastic-bottled decants are entirely worthless, and lead to evaporation. Some of the glass ones, too, aren’t great. Wrapping in parafilm/florist tape, might help a little…
SOTD is Serge Lutens “Chêne”, finishing off a decant. Notes are caraway, cedar, oak, rum, birch, thyme, immortelle, beeswax and tonka bean. I have enjoyed Chêne but won’t rush to replace this, as I have plenty more to be getting on with including 4 SL FBs that I like better.
ONE MORE DAY!
Ooh but you still smell terrific (and maybe like the best pencil ever)
Ha! I like it! Although for me Chêne is like pencil jam mixed with window putty (sounds like a Christmas treat for a termite). I find Armani Bois d’Encens is the pencil parings scent par excellence. :^)
I’ll get around to sniffing Chêne some day… When you mentioned the circus school above, it made me doubly giggly because in addition to being amusing in its own right, it reminded me of the X-Files episode ‘Humbug’ with the town of slideshow people.
Oooh, I’m playing today!
I used up my inherited, dab on sample of Chanel Cuir de Russie. It’s been lingering in a corner, forgotten and unappreciated. After emptying the remaining ml onto myself, I feel the urge to procure more.
Jokes on me, thought I was making room my sample stash!
Ha! Well, it wouldn’t be the worst thing if you did procure more CdR, though! You smell fabulous.
Gracias! My husband is going to get me a spray decant for Chistmas. That and a dab decant of Tauer L’Air du Desert Morocain.
I simply could not face 2017 without these in my arsenal
I took a break from Theorema today to liberally douse myself in Safran Troublant, and I’ve realized I’m sort of doing the opposite of this week’s theme — enjoying perfumes that I hope to NEVER run out of!
Mmmm, Safran Troublant. May your bottle never empty.
Fruitchouli Flash. Which I like in a very small dose.
Don’t have anything that is one wearing away from being finished. Super busy today at work and this is the first time I’ve been able to post. Spent most of the day in De Profundis and now Nahema.
I am wearing POAL body cream that I tried at Holt’s, I also tried the body oil which was very nice but not as long lasting as the cream. I was strong and didn’t buy it.
I bought the cream, it’s lovely. Perfect to keep in mind for your next splurge.
Enjoy, it is very nice. I will buy it maybe in the new year.
I am wearing Angel. Somehow for me winter and Angel seem to go together. It is classic and never gets old.
I really tried to like Angel Muse but just could not. I did not like the scent one bit.
