Hump Day, and Mark Twain's birthday, and the last day of November. What fragrance are you wearing?
After a rather long search through the sample drawers, I am in Bond no. 9 Fire Island, by Michel Almairac. I smell like the height of East Coast Beach Summer.
Reminder: on 12/2, wear a perfume by Michel Almairac, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Chanel #5, which is quickly becoming my go-to perfume. And it smells lovely and warm when it’s cold outside.
It is dreary and cold here — perfume is a nice antidote.
I like No 5 a lot in cold weather or for snow, and for the holidays. It makes me think of champagne and snowflakes. I wear no 5 regularly too.
“champagne and snowflakes” perfect image for n. 5 🙂
Scent twin, very lightly, as I work in an office, in HR, and it’s crazy right now, insurance open enrollment, holidays, and year end business. I have always liked #5, was a signature for awhile, before I fell down the rabbit hole.
My chubby Buddha woke up again with a fever. He didn’t sleep well last night and either did I. Hence my 3rd cup of Nepal Oolong.
I am sampling Gris Montaigne today. Do I dare say it smells mainstream..
I do like it though.
Oh, baby Buddha! It’s so hard being brand new to the world and then being assaulted by pathogens! I hope he feels better soon and you are able to get some restful sleep.
Oh dear. Hope naps are in the day’s plans.
He is napping now, and I will get one in when the other goes down for her nap.
I hope the little one feels better soon, and mom is able to take a nap today 🙂
Oh poor baby. I hope you and he both get some rest.
Hugs to the buddha and mama. I tried Gris Montaigne. I didn’t really know what to make of it. Pleasant enough but a bit bland or shapeless maybe?
It has great lasting power on my skin, but you are right its a bit bland.
I really like GM, but I wear it on warm days. That could make a difference?
I will try it in warmer weather. Next year we will be on vacation somewhere warm I hope
I hope the little one feels better soon, and that you can get some rest.
In the damp earth and roses of L’Artisan’s Voleur de Rose today, my first Almairac of the week.
Scent twins – I used up the last few drops of my decant and I’m going to miss it.
And I always forget he did that one!
Love this one – I am either going to wear that or Bottega Veneta Friday.
Cuir de l’aigle russe. It’s lovely.
Even just the name is lovely. Plus, great packaging. Don’t think I’ve smelled it though.
I wish they would do small bottles, I would just buy a whole lot of them. I can’t make up my mind which one I like best.
I’m not going to miss this November.
A hefty dose of vintage Cabochard. I need a vat of this, please. ????
Nor will I!
Me niether
Good bye and good riddance!
Horrible month, happy to see the backside of it.
Sixthed. November is always a lowest ebb month, with the light declining, and this one’s been gruelling. But I’m wearing Paco Rabanne Eau de Metal which is quite cheery. No Almairac or urge to acquire any – I blind bought Voleur de Roses once but sold it on.
Metal!!!! that one is fabulous! never got the love it deserved when it debuted many years ago!
Boo to November and Yes to Cabochard!
You smell great! You can get a vat at the discounters. I did. ????
Ha! Me, too on November. I had no idea this month was getting thumbs down from so many directions. I’m late to the party and reading the comments from the bottom up, so it’s a nice surprise to find I’m in good company.
SotD: Gucci Pour Homme. I forget how wonderful this one is.
I am drinking a mug of MF Montagne de Jade.
Oh, I forget about it too. You smell fantastic.
I’m feeling better, but I needed the comfort of Dzongkha.
Thumbs up for feeling better ????????
You smell fab!
Glad you are feeling better
I really need to try this one.
I like the dry down! The initial opening smells like whisky on me. Not that whisky smells bad..but not my cup of tea.
I can’t bring myself to wear this one, but I love the way it smells. It makes me think of a library in a mansion with mahagony furniture. I can’t wait to have a man friend wear it!
Glad you’re feeling better, and u smell lovely!
In EL White Jasmine Moss, a nice office scent. I am nevertheless counting down the days until I am out of the office for the holidays (10!)…
very pretty!
10, 9, 8…..yay for the holidays!!
It’s nice to be able to get away for a few days. I got lucky with 4 during Thanksgiving. I went on total detox: no emails, no internet, no phone calls, nada. I just wanted to space out, sleep in, and eat for a few days!
yay for 10 days!
Nice picture. I wish it were summer time. I am going thru all my samples once again. Today I am in Bond No. 9 New York Amber. The opening is very sharp and aggressive. It reminds me of an after shaving lotion. Very dry and masculine on me. Half an hour later it becomes softer and spicy roses, some oud and saffron notes start showing. I never get the amber. 6 hours later the sillage is pretty strong. I am happy it is not working for me and therefore it will never make it to my FB list, which is a relief.
I know that feeling of relief! I am busy falling in love with two pricey perfumes and telling myself to wait already!
Right now I am battling the temptation of a FB of a Serge Lutens. I am trying hard to put my mind on something else. Not easy………..
What are these objects of your affection? (lust?)
Rose de Petra and Larmes du desert. The latter is particularly pricey and a huge bottle. I am thinking maybe an order to First in Fragrance . . .
I share your pain! Those are both gorgeous. I have Rose de Petra, and have been looking longingly at Larmes du Désert. If only it came in a smaller bottle.
Fire Island is great. I’d probably own a small bottle if it wasn’t so over-priced, but as it is I’m happy with my decant.
SOTD = Tauerville Vanilla Flash. It’s unusually warm here (we got up to mid-fifties yesterday) but still feels like the holidays so I wanted something warm and cozy.
Those Flash scents are great, and such a good price too. The Vanilla is one of my favorites (along with Rose and Fruitchouli).
Vanilla Flash layered with Pure Cream lotion and shower gel from Philosophy is the most delicious scent!
@bastet, Yes, I was thinking after wearing it for around half an hour this morning, that it could easily be a signature scent were I that kind of girl. I haven’t tried the Fruitchouli Flash yet, but agree Rose is wonderful stuff, too, and the wear is fabulous for the price.
@ScentSpirit, that sounds delicious! I must give it a try!
Oud al Sahraa
Omg! Day #3!!! Go girl!
having a stressful morning so it was an easy pick!
Oh, sorry about the stress! Hope things smooth out soon.
they did….when I made a decision to let something work related go 🙂
and a young male just gave me a compliment on my accidental vetiver lotion (my own concoction that was supposed to be made with lots of patchouli but I accidentally dumped in a whole lotta vetiver!)…he said I smelled really good…like apples 🙂
Sorry about the stress. Young male compliments are the best. Yay You!
🙂
although the compliment was that I smelled like apples -LOL!
how he got that from vetiver I will never know!
A couple of weeks ago I was sampling Mon Paris. A young male coworker said, “you smell like flower’s, but not like good flowers” how’s that for a review!
LOL!
oh yikes!!!!
Great photo!
SOTD is SJP Stash. The name makes no sense to me. But, I like the perfume and packaging enough to induce me to break my “no buy.” Again.
That being said, it’s not my fault! I was in Ulta, killing time, and there was a lovely holiday set which consisted of 3.4 oz body cream, 1 oz edp, and 2 ml rollerball oil. All for $40. Plus my $10 in points brought it down to $30. I’m sure Donatella would approve of such a thrifty purchase. ????
Happy hump day all!
Lucky you, sounds like a great deal. I have yet to try Stash but hope I get a chance soon. Enjoy.
Well, I don’t think it’s anything groundbreaking, but I personally don’t have anything like it. It’s quite wearable and unisex, one of those fragrances that just seems to be a low maintenance no brainer for days you can’t be bothered making scent decisions.
Donatella forgives
She is so gracious ????
How many no buys have you broken thus far 🙂 ????
????*samefaced*
I lost count, but I’m about to buy the travel size of Dries as well. I’m an absolute failure. But I’m a good smelling failure ????
That should be “shamefaced”…
indeed you are a great smelling “failure” 🙂
That’s a great price.
I would have bought that too!
I am still waiting to get to our local Ulta to sniff this. I don’t know if I’d buy it, but I really do want to smell it.
Nice bargain! Definitely would be insane to pass that up.
I bought that too! As for the no-buy, I think you have exercised reasonable restraint. Go forth and smell great!
Wow what a deal! Enjoy your Stash.
I saw this set also, very good deal. You didn’t really break your no-buy. T-Rex had to get you a Christmas present.:)
It’s actually free so you didn’t break your no buy 😉
SOTD is PG Cuir d’Iris, my new favorite.
Can you tell me a little about it? And how its lasting power is? I find some PGs very fleeting, although the new Limanakia is great and tenacious.
On me, it’s a deep, ambery-leathery iris with just a bit of dirt/dust/cedar. I like dark, slightly sweet leathers and ambers (SL Cuir Mauresque, Dior’s Cuir Cannage, Alahiiiiine) and CdI is right up that alley. It starts off a tiny bit rough-edged (like a tamer version of Broken Theories, if you’re familiar with that one), but smooths out quickly and lasts quite well on me – actually has slightly better sillage and lasting power if I don’t spray too much. I’m 6 hours in now and it’s still gorgeous and noticeable but staying fairly close to the skin.
Thanks so much! I must try as I love iris in all its forms and the leathery and dirt/dust/cedar aspects sound very appealing. Let’s hope I don’t get blue cheese!
That the one that, bizarrely, smells like blue cheese on me. I really, truly didn’t believe when people reported that happening with other perfumes, until it happened to me. :^)
Oh, K – you have my deepest sympathy! So sad that it doesn’t work on your skin. Have you sniffed it on paper? Does it smell like blue cheese to you that way also?
Smelled like blue cheese to me on paper – wasn’t letting it anywhere near skin. Odd.
I got the PG origami sample pack so I never feel too sad if a particular scent doesn’t work, as there are loads of others. :^)
I am on day 3 of a 6 day work week. Getting up at 3 in the morning to be at work at 5 is kicking my butt. I haven’t gotten around to applying no 19 EDP yet. I’m just happy that today I don’t have to be at work until noon.
Good luck! I am also working 6 days this week, starting at 5 am and finishing very late. But we will smell amazing and we will survive….
Man that is early. I am so not a morning person. It would kill me!
Yikes! That is very early. Much admiration.
Working in a bakery requires very early mornings. Someone on vacation and another on medical leave makes a 6 day work week nessecary this week.
That is a rough schedule. 🙁 Hang in there and get that n. 19 applied!
Woke up to 20 cm of snow and more on the way. Usual 20 minute commute was 90!!
Wearing Lancôme Cuir today to salve my fragile nerves. I may be down 1 car mirror, but I smell amazing.
You smell really gorgeous!
Oof! Rough morning. Hoping the rest of the day goes better.
Love Cuir de Lancome!
Wow!
Sorry about your mirror!
Thanks. The roads were shockingly poor. Poor bugger who took out the mirror couldn’t help the slip sliding. Nobody was hurt, and the mirror is cheap. I am just glad nobody was hurt
A mirror’s width is too close a call! Hope you are calm and enjoying your scent.
Hope your drive home is calmer! You smell great.
Argh, no fun! Hope journey back is better and lovely Cuir is helping.
Oh no!, u do smell wonderful tho.
Driving in the snow! In my top three of things I hate, and things that terrify me.
You smell great. Stay safe out there on those icy roads!
Today I’m wearing Prada Candy, and drinking a cup of Laduree Josephine tea. It is so yucky outside today. Lots of rain happening now, and lots more to come. My dog is scared to death right now. He hates this type of weather. He’s hiding under my desk as I type.
Poor puppy. Please give him a reassuring pat from me.
Poor pup!
Poor puppy. Mine are not scared of weather but smoke detector alarms cause abject terror in my house.
It’s my last day in Florida on a business trip, and despite the lovely weather, I’m so ready to go home (especially after also being out of town for Thanksgiving). If anyone remembers in the Hard Day’s Night movie where Paul’s grandfather complains that he’s only seen a car and a room, and a train and a room, and a room and a room… that’s me.
Wearing the last of my Poudre de Riz decant, which I’ve pretty much worn every day since Thanksgiving. Seems to me like I’m going to need more of this!
Or worse, a plane and a room, an airport and a plane and a room. Know the feeling and glad you’ll be home soon!
Business travel can be so grinding and dour. I hope you have a smooth trip home!
Is that by Huitieme Art? It sounds really nice. Does it smell of talc? Hope you make it home safe and sound.
Yep, that’s the one! It really does smell of talc, so if you like powder, I think this is a must-try. Not particularly sweet and with just a touch of rawness (I’m using that word to evoke the uncooked flour scent that seems so integral to powder to my nose) to make it realistic.
It’s a balmy 55 degrees here on the last day of November. I won’t complain! SOTD is the beautiful Mohur EdP.
So beautiful!
Rain, which we desperately needed. (Gatlinburg could sure have used some yesterday and the week before, too. 🙁 )
The laptop is fixed, and I’m only out $50. Whew.
Parfum Sacre today.
That’s a relative bargain!
I’m happy for your rain that you needed, and your laptop repair 🙂
You smell great!
Yay to all 🙂
Glad to hear that it’s off your plate.
Cold here in Denver today. I’m in Sheer Obsession (or Obsession Sheer – I’ve never been sure), but I like the play on words of the first version. Now this is an example of a really good flanker – Obsession is too much for me, but I love this lighter more wearable version that is still true to the fragrance.
Wearing Eau de Baux for the first time in a while. It smells delicious and a little lemony today.
I haven’t smelled that in years, but I went through several tubes of the after shave balm back in the day. You smell fantastic.
Was in L’Occitane the other day and tried the new Arlesienne. Liked it initially, but boy oh boy was the drydown tenacious–apparently I like just a bit of violet, not hours & hours of it. 1st washing of the fleece I was wearing didn’t remove it entirely either! Wish I’d tried the 2014 version.
I remember that one also being tenacious. Even the body wash hangs around for a while!
Any suggestions for perfumes that smell of Christmas?
Maybe Bois de Paradis for mulled cider or Wazamba for fruity, piney incense.
Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles
I’ll second that SL. My husband thinks Guerlain Songe d’une Bois d’Ete smells like a christmas tree, contrary to the name.
Yes!, also I would suggest kenzo Jungle L’Elephant, reminds me of mulled wine.
Slumberhouse Norne smells like a fir forest to me, and MKK like the Nativity–the musk of the animals, the sweat of the wise men, and a thread of sweetness from the babe.
Norne. So good.
I have sniffed this but what a great description.
CDG Zagorsk, it has a bit of a pine-needle note to me.
Chanel Coco is especially nice this time of year. It reminds me of a Christmas dessert my grandmother used to make. It was her special bread pudding, with fruits and spices in it.
I agree with Wazamba.
Also, I think a good holiday scent is DSH Nourouz.
Ditto. I reach for Coco this time of year.
3rd the Coco and second the DSH. In fact, she has a whole group of lovely holiday fragrances. Her website is dshperfumes.com (not affiliated).
And, for a cheap thrill, I think my new ZUM Mist Frankincense and Myrrh Aromatherapy Room and Body Spray is a wonderful (and inexpensive – $10) holiday scent!
Oh yes….I second that! the soap is nice too!
Fourth, for Coco.
Blackbird (Olympic Orchids ) for the tree and CB I Hate Perfumes At the Beach for the long hot summer days lounging under an umbrella by the lapping waves as kids in sun hats and licking ice creams play in the sand. Or Ys-Uszac Lale with its beautiful soft lemon for afternoons at the bach, sitting on the verandah reading an old paperback with red flowering Pohutukawa and bellbirds nearby. Or Terre d’Hermes for the scent of sun warmed rocks and earth as the sun just begins to set around 9pm…..am I rubbing it in a bit much?
Heh – a walking-round-upside-down person! I’d swap Novembers any day – don’t mind a bit of Christmas cold though.
Blackbird really does smell strongly of fir trees.
I spent two Christmases in South Africa. It was strange sitting around in shorts and going to the beach on Christmas day. I wore Miss Balmain which was a gift from my ex in-laws, it smelled great in the heat.
SSS Incense Pure, Champagne de Bois, Forest Walk
Eden Botanicals Fir Balsam Absolute 10% which you can slather all over your body and be a walking talking sweet balsamic Christmas tree….believe me, it is absolutely freakin’ amazing at how good it smells!!!
SL Bois et Fruits, Coco EDP, and Tauer Un Rose Chypree (or however you spell that) all smell Christmassy to me.
SL Arabie too – I suppose any of the fruity/spicy Lutens perfumes might fit.
I guess it depends on your Christmas associations, but mine would be Atelier Orange Sanguine. To me, oranges=winter=xmas, and Orange Sanguine recalls pomanders (the oranges studded with cloves version) which I strongly associate with Christmas. When I was a child, my friend’s mother used to put orange peels on their wood stove to scent the air during winter, and it reminds me of that, too.
Oh that’s a good one! I usually wear OS in the summer but I will consider wearing it for Christmas now!
Thank you all! What a great list!
Day two for rain, and the weather is not cold, so I’ll take it! SOTD is the lovely Shaal Nur. Vetiver, roses and rain are a perfect combo.
sounds like a great combo
A cold has now left me with almost complete laryngitis, which makes my particular line of work nearly impossible. Staying home to write things that need to get written. I can still smell traces of Rose de Petra, which I was trying earlier his week, on my sweatshirt. I tell myself I don’t need anymore roses, but it is awfully nice. Also realizing I like Atelier des Ors Larmes du desert a little too much.
oh no, get well soon! roses ARE awfully nice.
I know. And this one is different from the others I have . . .
Rose de Petra is lovely. It reminds me of Mohur.
Interesting. I get more milky almond from Mohur and something a little darker from Rose de Petra. But both so good.
Hope you feel better soon – you have been sick a lot lately, poor thing.
Thank you! I got the flu despite a flu shot and thought that would be it for the winter, but then two conferences and hotels and airplanes and another bug. My person says I should live in a bubble.
Despite your cold, I am sure you have a better nose. 🙂 Feel better!
Oh I just things smell different on and to different people!
Hope you feel better soon!
Kenzo Kashaia. Found it in the bottom of my closet during Kenzo week. Nice stuff, very comfy and apricoty. Cold and dreary here too, and it was supposed to be almost summer!
I’ve never heard of this but it sounds lovely.
Wednesday!
Chilly, foggy morning. On the phone- again- with It internal support, who is of very little help. My access to SOS is blocked, and I have end of month duties to perform.
Trying not to kill anyone in JM Incense and Cedrat (from a sample).
You are smellin’ good despite work calamities !!!
Thank you!
And your name is literally the most perfect thing this time of year! How i loved eating precious marzipan as a kid- my mom had a hookup on the Upper East Side who worked at a shop there- Zabar’s- who would get her boxes at store cost.
oh God I love Zabars!!!! Not sure if you read prior comments from other days but my parents came for Thanksgiving and brought me six dark chocolate covered marzipan logs from Aldi’s in the city…..devoured them all by Monday 🙁 …yup, I am a little piglet!
So frustrating! Good luck. You smell lovely – do you like it?
ARRRRGH (insert Charlie Brown yelling here)
I actually do like this scent, almost as much as my Black Jade- it’s sheer and fresh, but persistent, and is a great way to wear a spice/incense fragrance and not feel overwhelmed. It’s also great for office wear and layering too.
ELDO Bijou Romantique for another dreary day here.
That one could be Shalimar’s cousin 🙂 You smell great
Thanks! I can see that relation.
I wore that from an old sample not too long ago and was surprised by how much I liked it. Was wishing I had bought a bottle of that rather than Putain des Palaces, which I like but hardly ever reach for. You smell delish!
Why thank you! I got a small decant of PdP last year and I hardly wear it either, eventhough I like it. I can see it being a little stifling in your part of the world.
So cozy!
Coromandel EDT today. It has FINALLY cooled down some here in Southern CA. 48° and sunny this morning and high of 66°! I am loving it.
It does sound like lovely weather. You smell great!
Yep, it’s nippy here in San Diego. Perfect perfume weather!
Beautiful.
I almost wore Coromandel today too but the bottle was inaccessible, blocked by other bottles, hence me needing to put my herd thinning plan into action! 😉 You smell great.
I am wearing Amouage Lilac Love, even though it was great in the first hours , I don’t smell it anymore. I will switch to something else, one of the samples I keep at work.
It faded out quickly on me too. Glad I didn’t love it, more money saved!
That picture makes me miss Florida. And it’s still raining outside because I am still sad about not being back in Florida.
Work today is truly testing my patience as well. It’s a half day because we are all going out for the boss’s bday later, but I’m almost wondering if it would be more sane to stay at the office and get work done than have to babysit everyone at the bar…. oi vey….
I’m in Orlov Flame of Gold – needed an amber boost for this gloomy weather/mood.
Sometimes work play is more work than work work.
Please, stop being sad so it will stop raining!
SotD = Iris Fauve by Atelier des Ors
Oh nice. I am still trying to figure this one out from my dabber sample. I think it might need a big spray or two.
SL Jeux de Peau, second day running. I kind of dislike the name of this perfume, and when I think about it, the things that pop up are “bakery, vanilla and gourmand”, which are all not my favourite notes. But I love it when I wear it! It’s so much more than that. It’s got almonds, incense, smoke, and that wonderful toast note that you sometimes get in a good white burgundy. And it lasts a good long while. And it makes you feel like you’re sitting in front of a fireplace, handy in winter.
I haven’t tried this one but your description makes me want to.
Me too 🙂 !!!!!
Sounds wonderful, adding to my sample list!
Love the beach picture! I have been all about tropical/beachy for the last few days. I know, it’s completely out of whack with the season, but it’s been pretty cloudy. I’ve always been all about the Winter Antidote perfumes, although it usually starts a little later in the season. But this year, I’m not waiting around.
Incidentally, saw the latest Disney flick this past weekend. People, if I could buy this movie right now, I would be all over it (not affiliated, btw). Talk about a winter antidote! Gorgeous, gorgeous, sunny, green and tropical! I’m well out of the little kid years – youngest is off at college – but I live near Chicago, and really, a DVD is cheaper than a flight to warmer climes.
No perfume right now; I’ve been using Lucy B for the past few days, but I think I will back off from the sweet today. At least for a little while. Maybe Eau de Merveilles or Azemour…
Have a great day, everyone!
I just came back from Disney, such a magical place.
I will watch this film for sure.
I’ve tried very few Michel Almairac perfumes, but I have Gucci Rush and Armani Prive Bois d’Encens, so this should be a good week. 🙂
Wearing Lyric to combat another gray day. Wish I could send the rain south where it’s needed.
I need to pull put the Lyric. You smell fabulous!
It’s good stuff!
Twins! You smell fantastic!
Cool and crisp here, doused myself in Oriental Lounge.
I watched a You Tube review on Oriental Lounge. The reviewer really liked it.
I am curious about this one too. How would you describe it please?
She-ra, I haven’t smelled it myself but you can see the You Tube review under Brooklyn Fragrance Lover. He reviews two scents from this house.
It is a somewhat vanillic light amber to my nose, very pleasant and not overly potent. A nice easy wear.
I am wearing Loulou today…a swapmeet spoil.
I haven’t smelled this in years and it smells a bit different to me so I suspect this is a more recent formula than I may have sniffed back in the 90s. I am not sure if it really discontinued/not in production currently so please weigh in if you know. I see plenty of it for sale quite cheap but I’m not sure if this is old product or if it is still being churned out.
I like it but feel like it missing some oomph I remember from the 90s…such is the reality of reformulation.
In other news, Xmas is 3 weeks from Sunday! 😯
I have a newish bottle from maybe 2 years ago? I can’t imagine it having more oomph than it has! By oomph I mean it’s potent and fairly loud. I can only wear it dabbed and applied an hour before I leave the house.
I don’t think it is still in production and I do believe it was reformulated somewhere along the way…the original was divine! Back in my college days someone in one of my classes (American Lit) wore this one all the time …it was her signature scent…took me weeks before I struck up the courage to ask what she was wearing…..
I have a bottle from about two years ago, it is slightly different to me. It is a little weaker, but I still find it to be very Lou Lou.
I’m in one of my favorites Karl Lagerfeld KL. I’m so sad this is discontinued as my sample is starting to dwindle. I love the spiciness of this oriental!
Nice! that one is beautiful!
Love this one! It”s a super satisfying and long lasting spice fest, but there still is quite some space in there, between the notes. Why is it the best ones get discontinued?
Right?! That is a great way to describe it.
I literally have two sprays left of KL. For sure one of the best spicy scents ever!
It’s December and time to break out the summer scents! So many roses are in full bloom around the neighbourhood and yet I don’t have any perfumes with a strong rose vibe. I just find rose so hard to wear. We also have a few lilies in flower and yet that is another scent that doesn’t do it for me. What to do?
Portrait of a Lady, Marni Marni, La Fille de Berlin. Lyric.
I’m wearing Alahine, aka my biggest disappointment from 2016. I expected to either love it or hate it, but I just find it boring and indifferent. It never ceases to amaze me how different one scent can be on different people. Life is too short to wear boring perfume.
I too don’t get the allure of Alahine. I’ve tried a number of times, since people have said it takes repeated wearings to “get,” but I’m still not there and have set it aside for the time being. Like you, I don’t find anything objectionable about it; just nothing exciting.
I’m in the like camp but I wore a smidge last weekend and it suddenly smelled like raisins and I can’t seem to undo that association.
I have the parfum and haven’t worn it more than once since I bought it. It’s nice but it just doesn’t wow me. It’s getting sold.
I adore Alahine. I love the solid perfume as well.
But its not a blind buy purchase for sure, but it wasn’t love at first sniff either.
Have been out of the NST loop a few days and so missed the Michel Almairac memo. In Ananas Fizz to fight the fall/winter chills!
Ah, you smell great. I might need a spritz of that right about now…
Smelling lovely in Jardins d’Armide today
House twins today! Jardins is lovely.
Getting lots of stuff done to get ready for the trip – leaving on Monday for three months in India. I’m wearing Trayee today.
Have a safe trip, Sajini!
Enjoy, be safe, and tell us all about it. Will you be able to keep in touch with NST?
Have a wonderful trip!
PdE Cuir Ottoman. I know this is not a wearable leather, but feels so wearable compared to others 🙂
Oh I so wish that one was wearable for me, but it isn’t. It smells really good on dh, so he now wears it a couple times a week.
Oh, I did not know it was unwearable 🙂 I love it and wear quite often 🙂 you smell great!
That’s quite wearable on me.
I’m iffy about strong leathers and I find this pretty wearable. It’s mostly a powdery iris on me, with some soft leather.
I think it’s extremely wearable myself. Very easy to the nose in fact.
Dug through the samples and promo minis for something Almairac and found Burberry Body. Remembered why it has lingered unloved on my minis tray! Will have to find something more interesting for later.
Here’s a delightful review of Gucci Rush by the Candy Perfume Boy. And who doesn’t just want to smell like a hooker sometimes? 😉
https://thecandyperfumeboy.com/2011/08/27/sometimes-i-just-want-to-smell-like-a-hooker-gucci-rush-perfume-review/
Rush is definitely Exhibit No. 1 for Candy Perfume Boy’s assertion that that perfumes released under Tom Ford’s art direction at Gucci and some other brands are more exceptional, or at least have greater finesse, than those released under his own name.
I’m wearing Knize Ten today as I sneak it into the last day of my year’s experiment, but I have other leathers I like better so into the re-home pile it will go.
My experiment year ends today. I was neglecting things I loved, buying blind from note lists, and pursuing scents getting lots of notice on various blogs. My goal is to have about a hundred perfumes that I adore and keep the collection fresh by periodically culling those that have fallen out of favor to make room for new loves. In this first cut, out of 145 perfumes I didn’t wear 30 for a year or more. My rejects will find new homes as I’m putting together a sales list for Basenotes and I’m putting aside some travel sizes and decants for the Freebiemeet in January. I’ve learned that buying a sample is, for me, much wiser than buying blind. I only love about 5% of what I sample, so money saved!
wow!
and can’t wait till the freebie meet myself, I have some giveaways
Good job you!
Had other fragrant plans but my hand reached for Nirvana Rose, which I have to say, smells particularly beautiful today.
On the down side, our heat has been out since early this morning and despite my apartment management’s reassurances, there is in fact no one here to fix it. We went through all last fall through early January without fully functioning heat, so this does not bode well.
I am truly wishing you fast resolution. No heat is not acceptable.
I hope you got some $$$s back!
SOTD has been Parfumerie Generale “Bois Blond”.
Top: grass, galbanum and wheat;
Mid: cedar and hay;
Base: ambergris, musk and white tobacco.
For the 30 minutes it lasted, it smelt like (I imagine) wood in the Star Trek holodeck: it might make you think of wood if you were a very very long way from any actual wood. And after 30 minutes someone orders the simulation switched off, and we’re back to where we started.
Haha! The PG line at OsswaldNYC is so extensive that I usually lose interest after the 5th one.
SOTD Guerlain L’Heure Bleue.
Gorgeous!
SOTD: SL Gris Clair x Prada Infusion d’Iris = ‘deeper’ SL Gris Clair. I can’t smell the Infusion d’Iris at all haha.
SOTD is La Myrrhe. I wish i had brought my sample with me so I could re-apply, but it’s probably better for my co-workers.
Last week I wore Coromandel (a lot of it) and was told it smelled like the sawdust that the custodian at the rlementary school uses to pick up “spills”. All I could say was “but it’s Chanel!”
Hmmm, like cat litter?
????????
SOTD is Chergui, warm and cosy on this chilly day.
Twins!
I decided on Chergui today, which is working nicely. It was actually chilly this morning, enough so that I wanted a sweater.
I was able to solve a plant mystery the other day. There is a plant on my back patio that was there when I bought the house, and I hadn’t figured out what it was. But then it started blooming within the last couple of days and I realized I have a plumeria! The flowers smell so good.
Oh, nice surprise! :^)
Lucky you, Plumeria is divine!
Sotd was Miu Miu. This smells SO much better in cooler weather. The spring like bottle is deceiving.
The. bottle looks like a juxtaposition of Chanel and Tiffany’s at Macy’s price and quality. I should give it a chance since we have some common fragrance likes.
It’s worth a shot. I found with Miu Miu, that less really is more, and it lasts all day on me.
SOTD is Lyric Woman.
After some lovely sun and sea breezes today, it’s back to the desert tonight…where there’s a freeze warning in effect.
A true 32F freeze warning or the Arizona equivalent 60 degrees? You smell great!
A true one! Deserts like ours have pretty large day/night temperature swings. Winter nights are typically cold–often near or below freezing–if there are no clouds.
Ours took a rise up to the 60s with rain. I hope it gets colder again soon!
Hey Twin, you smell beautiful today!
Late to the party and wondering what I missed given the 240 or so comments ahead of mine!
SOTD = Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay
I like to wear this when the weather forecast calls for a cool rain and the weather cooperated!
I smelled Box of Eels in the wild on my way home. This is a welcome change from the usual miasma that permeates New York Penn Station and its surroundings all day everyday
I’ve yet to recognize a fabulous perfume in the wild. Some day…
You absolutely will 🙂
JM BB&B is such a great scent. You smell rainy-day marvelous.
I love free-range perfume encounters. It’s good to think that perhaps Box of Eels is not an endangered species in the wilds of NYC.
I believe this was the 3rd time smelling BdI in the wild and one of those times was outside the Chanel Boutique on 57th.
SotD = Ambre Narguilé again. It pairs perfectly with the Oblaten Lebkuchen I’m eating.
Goodbye, November. It’s good to see the back end of it. As my son says, “See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya.” Actually, I think November deserves a sternly voiced “and the horse you rode in on.”
NST, you smell like inspiration. Onward and upward!
Yeah, maybe the door can hit November on its a** on the way out. I think NSTers can make December an infinitely better month for our corners of the globe!
Yum to the lebkuchen!!!! I ate quite a bit over the Thanksgiving holiday 🙂
