Election Day, at last! I am going to take my son with me to the polls, as I do every time I vote, but now for the first time, he's going to vote too. Then we are off on a college visit, so posting will be light today.
Quick reminder: heed the comment policy, please! We can talk about voting and we can talk about how glad we'll be to see this election over, but please, no partisan politics.
And I went light on the perfume, too, so as not to annoy my fellow citizens. I'm in a little dab of Parfums DelRae Mythique.
Reminder: 11/11 will be Iris Friday — wear an iris fragrance, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Kelvin Chen Mini Teapot (porcelain with hand painted enamel; decorative use only!) is $34.95 at Museumize.
Green tea in my thermo as I waited in the long long line to vote.
I am in Alahiiiiiiiine, the solid perfume!
That must be an amazing moment for you Robin, enjoy the precious moment with your son
Thank you! I am praying we have no line — we usually don’t. Glad you had your tea with you!
That’s a darned sweet teapot. Voted by mail last month, and will continue to do so, as long as it’s an option. Romanza today, am on a mini kick with this one.
As would I if we had the choice!
It’s all over the news in my country as well. I’m wearing Dior Homme and had Laos Wild Phongsali as my first tea of the day.
I don’t think I have ever had any tea from Laos, is it good?
I like it, it’s quite woody, but not chocolatey like Chinese tea can be. It’s not a very high end tea, but for what it is, it’s nice.
Put on a scent, washed it off. Put on a scent, washed it off. Am now in the always lovely Sacrebleu.
I’ve done that! Not the Sacrebleu part but the trying and scrubbing. Sometimes you just don’t know what you want, or you accidentally put on the wrong thing and can’t deal with it. Repeatedly.
Oh yes, Sacrebleu is always lovely. But particularly so when it’s winter! It always puts me in mind of the compulsory Nutcracker ballet viewing during the Christmas-New Year break.
One of my favorite Nutcracker performances was at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It was initially a limited 5-year run and now they are back again!
Wearing a wee smoosh of L’Occitane Amande and Lavande hand creams, which together smell a bit like anise, or more accurately like a stripped-down version of Lolita Lempicka. I got a little tin of three tiny tubes yesterday, and I may have to get bigger tubes before we leave Toronto (no L’Occitane where we live). They go really well together.
Congrats on your son’s milestone, Robin!
I dumped on the rest of my Agent Provocateur Strip sample. Sad to see it go and wish they still made this one. It hits all of my powdery comfort buttons.
Thank you, and sorry about the Strip!
This reminds me that I was wondering last night if we’ve ever done a powder-themed day… powder puff? powder keg?
Egoiste- named for all politicians, everywhere.
Jam o’ the day: Election Day by Arcadia with guest vocals by Grace Jones.
One ’80s NYC summer I was visiting uber-fabulous friends on Le Caliente Isle when we were invited to a late night party.
Turns out the host was Miss Jones, whose outfit was white palazzo pants and diamond earrings. She couldn’t have been nicer and a good time was had by all. LOL
Vote U.S.A. !
Carpe Diem y’all!
Ha! I should have worn that today.
I love Egoiste – one of my favorite Chanels. Should put it in the rotation now that the weather is cooler.
Muhaha! Actually, a really good choice for a scent!
Weird- I have also met Miss Jones (in the 2000s as a dance party host) and what a incredibly sweet and FUNNY woman!
Back from voting.
50 people ahead of me, 35 minutes in line, a small price for democracy.
Vote U.S.A.
Good to know people are out.
That’s a great story.
Ha! Great story. And appropriate SOTD!
I keep picturing Grace Jones in white pants, diamond earrings and nothing else. Which may well have been exactly what she was wearing
If anyone could pull that look off, it would be her.
Yes no blouse or top.
And she was fabulous in a room with lots of beautiful human beings.
Humble and funny and fun.
Ha ha, kpaint, that was my first thought too!
That was my assumption as well: white flowy pants, jewelry, nothing else. And yes, she could certainly carry that off.
Awesome story, Bear!
Thanks for all the love.
Please vote, if you haven’t already!
SOTD Hermes Kelly Caleche. I needed something easy, bright, cheerful for a hectic day like today. Cheers everyone!
You smell great!
Sous le Toit de Paris today
Great choice, you smell wonderful!
Nice! I should pull that one out to wear soon.
Nice!
I’m back from Japan where I had coffee in Osaka with a perfume friend (originally from Poland) whom I met via Instagram. The modern world is quite wonderful sometimes. I’m wearing Guet-Apens from a decant she made me and I’m loving it. I think she occasionally lurks here as well, so Ania, if you’re reading this – thank you!
Love Guet-Apens! Do you think it smells of rye bread after a while? And let’s hear more about your trip to Japan, please!
Welcome back! I haven’t smelled Guet-Apens but a generous NSTer gave me a decant of Voil de Nuit Evasion which is apparently the same scent and I love it. So betting you smell lovely.
What a small world! That’s awesome!
Still in DelRae Mythique – loved it yesterday and also the bottle is still in the office, so why not. But I’m gearing up for Iris Silver Mist later in the week; I’ve also Guet-Apens lying in wait and Iris Nazarena might get it’s moment too.
Hey twin!
Thumbs up for the scent twins and fingers crossed for the voting, I guess
Hey triplet!
A winner for iris week.
I am wearing the second of my Sylvaine Delacourte samples, Florentina, this one has almond and iris, it is a light and clean scent, baby powdery and reminds me of Musti.
I am home this morning and enjoying the nice sunny weather outside, will be working in the afternoon.
Sounds lovely, enjoy your morning off!
Election Day scent phi rose de Kandahar
Amber Flush arrived last night and I’m pleased to say it’s everything I hoped. Definitely sweet, but hits all the elements in amber that I like, and none of the ones that make me queasy. The cat wasn’t a fan….but more for me, I guess.
Wishing all my fellow Americans who are voting today logistically manageable trips to the polls!
I am hoping mine will arrive soon too. I am sure I will like it.
Good to know. I’m particular about amber for the same naseating reason.
Let me know if you have any interest in trying some! I haven’t tried it next to Amber Flash, but relying solely on my scent-recall skills, they seemed to have things in common. And there are definitely commonalities in the basea of Amber Flush and Rose Delight
It’s the jojoba oil. I did a patch test yesterday and so far so good. Amber Flush actually reminds me of Khol de Bahrein which has ambergris but not the animalic kind.
31 RC because I need strength and fortitude today.
A [Ed note: deleted partisan reference, sorry!] in a bottle. Great choice!
Twins! Love that one
Cute teapot! It’s going to be a gorgeously sunny fall day here, and I’m in Chanel 19 EDP to celebrate the weather and Election Day. Happy Tuesday everyone!
Scent twins!
Hi! (waves madly; causes eyebrow-raises in coworkers)
Here, too. It really changes ones outlook for the day to wake up to sun
It really does. I am lucky enough to have a window near my desk at work, overlooking a wooded walking-trail type area. So pretty!
Having a window near one’s desk is critical, regardless of what it overlooks (though a serene scene helps!)
Thanks for the 19 suggestion yesterday, SheriG, I wore the EDT today. Tried to wear Nasty Woman, but 19 was calling too loudly.
Twinsies!
Wearing Byredo Encens Chembur. In summer, this is too sharp and my husband doesn’t like it but in fall and winter, it is perfect.
Still not feeling great but at work nonetheless. A light misting of Neroli Dore so I smell fresher than I feel.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you!
Seconding the Get Well wishes!
Hope you feel better!
VC&A Bois d’Iris–I have one more wear in my decant and while this is lovely, I do not think I will get a fresh decant (or fb).
I am drinking MF American Breakfast with a splash of almond milk.
Bois d’Iris is my SOTD too. I think we smell great!
I could still smell remnants of a woody gourmand that I wore last night (Biehl Parfumkunstwerke EO 01), so I had to choose a gourmand iris to go with it.
Yay–scent twins!
SSS Fig Tree. Trying it out on a non school day to see if I can get away with it with the kids. I’m finding that many of my loves are a bit too “perfumey” to wear around my preschoolers, so I’m trying to expand my selection of more subtle scents that are still interesting and actually last more than an hour.
One of my favorite scents, it always puts a smile on my face
Happy voting with your son Robin! I got to do the same thing with my son two years ago, our polling place is actually located inside the high school so he texted me on his lunch break and we voted together???? The selfie together afterwards was a no go (heaven forbid, one of his friends might see!). It was a bittersweet proud moment nonetheless.
SOTD is Le Labo Labdanum 18.
It is bittersweet to be old enough to have a son of voting age, that’s for sure!
How sweet! (Even if he wasn’t ready for photographic evidence)
Election day scent is Encre Noir. I put it on before I realized Ill be in a crowd of fellow voters
Let’s just hope I did not overapply.
You smell amazing, and I don’t think people will mind!
Iris Nazarena for me today. Kids are off from school today and we will be baking cookies, just because.
Iris Nazarena called out to me today, too. Smelling terrific, twin!
Wishing I was twins on the cookies.
Oh I gotta get a cookie recipe from you. I generally fail as a baker thou
Wearing a navy blue pantsuit, with a blue mani – and my fragrance is TM Angel [Ed note: deleted partisan reference, sorry!]
Dithering between Dzongkha and Silver Iris… I may wear both.
Also, I have a $20 off coupon code for a Tauer discovery set, $11 instead of $31. If you want to buy the set (5 samples of your choice) let me know. My email is my user name at me dot com.
The coupon has been claimed, thanks!
My SOTD is Iris Poudre. I love it, but my husband despises it so I only wear it on days when I know I won’t see him until very late.
I just got back from NYC where I ran the marathon. It was amazing, and the greatest thrill was realizing how many people were generous enough to give up their Sunday (or entire week!) to make sure that 50,000+ runners would have a safe and comfortable experience. My hugest thanks to all the race volunteers, and to all volunteers of any kind.
Congratulations on running the marathon! Very impressive.
I’m a little surprised that someone would despise Iris Poudre. Not want to wear it themselves, sure, but a “yuck” reaction? Maybe he just hates aldehydes.
Congrats on the marathon!
My husband doesn’t like it either. It’s the aldehydes.
He says it reminds him of funerals. I think it’s the aldehydes that he’s reacting to, but I don’t want to make him sad so I haven’t worn it around him after his initial disgust to test if that’s indeed the case.
I was cheering! Babies were cheering and sleeping at the same time!
CONGRADS!!!!
Congrats!! Amazing accomplishment.
Congratulations!
Thanks everyone! It wasn’t my first marathon, but it was the most difficult because of all the terrible life stuff that happened during training. When I crossed the finish line it was such a relief that I just started crying. I’m definitely proud of myself today.
Wow, all the more of an achievement! Congratulations.
Belated congratulations- such an achievement, especially when you’re going through emotional turmoil ,well done!
Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Congratulations on your achievement!
Early voted last week! Definitely the way to roll for the bigger elections. Unfortunately, I hear that one of the two top candidates is gonna to win tonight! LOL Bummer, because the two of ’em are both quite flawed, whatever your personal politics or preference might be!
ANYHOO….on to a fun subject! My daughter had a doctor’s apt in Atlanta yesterday, so we always take the opportunity to have lunch at the good mall nearby…and sniff perfumes! Such a good time in Sephora and Nordstrom, particularly at the Jo Malone counter. Pretty positive that Santa will be gifting some JM English Pear and Freesia to my girlie on Christmas morning…..
In other smelly news, I’m ordering my Sephora VIB 20% off goodies in the next day or two, and decided to try the Atelier rollerball set! I’m a big fan of the few samples I have, so thinking the rollerballs will be a real treat!
SOTD: Daisy Dream…..
I think rollerballs are a great way to go to sample that line. Say, if you order online I think that Sephora may have that discovery set.
Election well summarized.
Salvation in scent!
I was planning on LAP Traversee du Bosphore for the iris note, but my Tauer package came last night so I couldn’t resist sampling Au Coeur du Desert. I haven’t done a direct comparison with LADDM but it seems both softer and richer, somehow. Very pretty. Looking forward to trying my new Amber Flush tomorrow.
And my oldest son voted this year for the first time as well! Absentee ballot, though, as he is away at college.
My daughter has made sure to send her absentee ballot in every year, too. Proud of these young people.
Well then we are a different kind of twin today! We did well — waited in line, literally, 5 seconds.
Kenzo Elephant today,
[Ed note: Meredifay, I’m so sorry but I’ve removed the whole section that talked about specific parties and candidates. Your discussion was polite but if we allow partisan politics here it is not likely to remain polite.]
Ugh. Politics. OK done with that! Everyone needs to vote. If you don’t vote, you can’t complain later…
I wish someone would make a donkey perfume…
Maybe Zoologist will get on it?
Did you read the NYT article about donkeys this weekend?
Did anyone watch the SNL Election Special last night? Tom Brokaw hosted, and he ended with something like, “So get out tomorrow and vote. And if your candidate doesn’t win, well, that’s your problem.” Just funny coming out of his mouth.
That is excellent, going to have to look for a clip!
Election Day! Because I live in Oregon, I got to mail in my ballot last week! Yay! The idea of standing in queue now is so foreign to me.
Am in Chanel 19 Poudre (from a sample). I got the idea from one of youse guys. Great for a foggy morning.
This election I am now calling Thunderdome. #twoenteroneleaves
What do think of it? I am so curious; I love a lot of Chanel scents, love 19 and do like powder but I never see testers for it and can’t get samples from STC anymore…! I might have to hit the Chanel store.
I love it! I have a FB..and don’t regret it
If I think of Poudre as a No. 19 flanker, it just ticks me off because it has none of the empowering, Amazon-warrior qualities of the original.
If, however, I think of it as a greener version of Infusion d’Iris, I like it a lot and find it calm and pleasant.
Hello!
In agreement with Mals86. It’s a greener, deeper version of Infusion d’Iris. There is a comforting powdery freshness to it, and on me it is persistent, yet subtle. I like it a lot, and I suspect you will too.
I love Chanel No. 9 Poudre…it is a comfort scent to me, plus it’s office friendly.
I mailed mine a couple of weeks ago. I have a very fuzzy memory of voting in-person in college (?) but it’s been well over 20 years since I had to go to a polling place. It would be great for democracy if all states ran mail-only elections but it would make election nights dull
Hey there!
Yes- so my first election in college was in Wisconsin, so I had to queue up for that. But ever since living here in Oregon and California I have just mailed my ballot in (CA you have to ask for mail in ballot but it’s easy.)
I think vote by mail is the way to go for MANY people, if not most (people work after all on most Tuesdays!). I am glad to see that this option is being used by more people.
I always think of people who can’t physically stand in line or get around easily. My 98 year-old grandmother, for instance, can barely leave the house much less deal with the whole polling place process. I’ve lived in places where you can request an absentee ballot but it’s so much easier when it’s automatic.
Oh, and you smell gorgeous. Love 19 Poudre – thanks for the reminder to pull it out for this week! And thanks, mals, for making that possible
Haha!I immediately heard Tina Turner singing in my head “We don’t need another hero….”when I read Thunderdome.
Sotd is Infusion d’Iris EdT. I like it.
I’m off to teach music classes at a school that is a polling place today. I hope I have a hard time finding a parking spot.
Lovely! I really came to that perfume late, but am so glad I did.
*came late
Infusion d’Iris EdT is so nice, I’m glad you’re a fan too. It is the iris I reach for most often at the moment.
I’ve tried three other iris scents from Prada and enjoy them all.
Congrats on the milestone Robin.
I decided to bypass all lines and mail my ballot in. I am glad this election is over – it does take the prize for weirdness.
SOTD – Ultimate Seduction
Thank you! Wish we could do mail voting. Or early voting. We get nothing. But, we also don’t have to deal with lines, so I should not complain.
New sibet today. Funky furry iris.
SOTD Atelier Poivre Electrique. I like it a lot, but it is a bit of a One Note Wonder. I have a feeling it might go nicely with something amber or incense, but I am at work with neither. Maybe my Amber Flush will be there when I get home and I can give it a test drive. Hoping that all my American friends vote mindfully and with gratitude.
Robin, my 18-year-old son is voting for the first time today too! He is right now at our polling location, handing out materials for our Congressman who is running for re-election, and will take a break to vote when the line gets smaller.
I’m back from voting, and attempting to comfort myself in Chanel No. 19 edp.
very special day for him!
Excellent! I remember being 18 and voting for the first time- I really felt arrived as an adult, more so than learning how to drive!
Congrats on having a new voter in your family. ????
Voting AND working the polls, good for him!!
Twins!
Hermes Hiris.
So special, Robin, to have your son vote in his first election.
It felt more special than his 18th birthday for whatever reason. He is now a real citizen!
Wearing Chael l’Eau today – I hear about longevity issues with this one, but I get a good 8-10 hours.
As a Canadian, all I can do is hope for a peaceful Election Day for all the US NSTers
You smell lovely. L’Eau wears pretty well on me too. Victoria at BdJ proposed that the widespread longevity complaints about it (aside from the fact it’s a cologne) could be due to anosmia to musk.
http://boisdejasmin.com/2016/09/chanel-no-5-l-eau-fragrance-review.html
I think she’s spot on.
I dithered about what to wear on this stressful election day — something cozy and soothing? Something stately and rise-above-it-all? Wound up choosing Falling in Love for its sunny, sweet, childhood memories vibe — a sort of perspective adjuster. But I may switch to Cuir de Russie later, because as it turns out, that’s what I’m in the mood for.
Cuir de Russie is VERY stately, and I think you should totally revel in it!
Hello and a. very good day to all. I’m prancing out of the house today wearing an odd assembly of clothes: a black-and-white checked skirt cut with a shirt tail hem, long, soft, flowing, a little black jumper, crisp, short, good proportions, and white sand shoes. I thought I looked casual and a bit funky: the dear man says I look as though I’ve wrapped myself up in a table cloth from our favourite bistro. Sadly, now I’ve looked at myself through his eyes, I think he’s probably right. But too bad: I’ll stick on a red lippy and spike my hair and see if I can carry off the table linen look! The perfume helping me to this worthy goal is Carnal Flower. I decided that if I resembled a runaway diner, I needed a perfume I couldn’t overlook, so it was this or Femme. I have Exam Board in a couple of weeks, and I’m saving F for that, so I’m wafting the green headiness of CF and beginning to see why this perfume has garnered so much attention and devotion.
Be well and happy, all.
Actually, why not both? You look funky AND like you fashioned part of the outfit with a tablecloth. Given what I wore in high school 18 years ago that is not a BAD thing at all!
And a good red lipstick + hair gel always pulls everything together!
I’ve heard rumors that red lipstick and perfume is a cure for almost anything.Lol.Kudos on the table-look,I like the black and white chessboard look myself.
I rather imagine your dear man is not right, but even if he is, some table linen is eminently wearable
You’re all so comforting! thank you. Actually, just as I was leaving the house, the dear one approached me with Dakkie in his arms and said that since I was clearly supporting the bistro with my clothes, why didn’t we go there for dinner tonight and support it in the normal way? A date night! No cooking! Excellent unintended outcome!
Subliminal suggestion worked!
I am sure you look great, sometimes they are clueless when it comes to fashion.
I bet u can really rock CF, and a tablecloth for that matter!- go Waterdragon!
Wearing Chypre Fatal today…compliments of the same generous NSTer…
I am enjoying it. I loved the opening and then the patchouli kicked in and now there is rose and some vanilla.
I remember testing Chypre Fatal at the store. The SA tried to read the word Chypre, and then said, “that’s a weird name”.
You smell lovely.
SOTD: ELdO Like This. I suppose I should have gone with an American scent, but, you know, Like This seems appropriate in a few ways all the same.
Misty, drizzly, chilly-for-Oklahoma. All the same, there were people at my polling place! Which is good, because our voter turnout tends to be terrible, and there are a number of very important SQs on the ballot this year. My polling place had all kinds of signs of community democracy going on, so it was a very pleasant fifteen minutes or so. Now I can relax a bit.
I like what Bear said about vote U.S.A.My first time voting was also the first democratic election in South Africa,I turned 18 that year. What a moment.I still get goosebumps.Sotd!Iris Silver Mist.Because I can.Lol.Happy and safe voting America! The world is watching.
Your recollection gave me goosebumps!
Wow! What an experience for a first-time voter!
That must have been quite exciting and moving. Lucky you!
It feels wonderful to participate in an historic event.
Am in the comforting and soothing The Different Company Bois d’Iris. I plan to watch the returns well into the night and see some Chanel N°19 Poudré in my future. Possibly also Lolita Lempicka L’eau en Blanc as it will be a long day.
My sephora sale order is due to arrive soon, including a bottle of ELdO Bijou Romantique (those 1 oz bottles are so reasonably priced!) and lots of other goodies (though nothing all that fun – I usually just stock up on stuff I always need and use.)
I’ll be making election night nachos for dinner. Does anyone else have election day/night rituals besides voting?
You might already know this, and given the Sephora discount it doesn’t matter right now, but Beautyhabit has the 10z ELdOs for $10 less.
I saw that and considered buying there, but the total price came out +/- the same since I’d have to pay for shipping at Beautyhabit.
I’m super tempted to get the 1ounce bottle of Putain. I already have L’air de Rien. Are they similar?
In my opinion, the 2 are nothing alike. Putain is a florally leather
I have both, and would never have to decide on one over another
Agree with hannahmom on that. The Miller Harris is a sweeter musky vanilla and the ELDO is decidedly less sweet and smells more of rice powder and leather. I also really like both.
Late to the party, but I agree with Hannahmom and Elisa P,
They are totally different.
I wish they sold the 1 oz bottles of the Atelier Colognes as well, would have gotten Blanche Immortelle in that size but all they have is 3.4 oz in the metallic series.
Agree. I would have totally picked up Santal Carmin if there was a 30ml available. I have just been getting 8ml decants from STC for now because 200ml is just too much! So I’m hiding out over here, seeking some comfort from NST as the election results come in. It’s just too nerve wracking.
Happy Election day to those in the US! Your election has been an interesting experience for those of us half a world away, so it must have been rather overwhelming in the country.
Tobacco Vanille for me today. It’s a sunny day but not overly warm, so it should be just right.
It’s been an interesting experience for us, too. ????
I voted on the very first day of early voting here, so I got that out of the way a couple weeks ago.
I’m wearing Bijan. I don’t wear this often and I forget how much I like it, especially considering I didn’t pay more than $10 for it.
I should find that one to sniff for a memory jog. Aways liked the donut-shaped bottle.
I think I got mine at TJ Maxx, if memory serves. But mine isn’t in the donut bottle — my bottle is shaped like the wonky “b” in the logo. I’m not sure if this bottle style has a particular name, but I just found one like mine on EBay. This is the listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VTG-BIJAN-Eau-de-Toilette-1-Oz-30-ml-NIB-Spray-/110986908409?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
Huh. I’ve never seen that one but it’s also pretty cool. I wonder if it’s the same juice.
If I remember correctly, the 3.4oz comes in the donut bottle, and the 1oz in the b bottle. I haven’t smelled Bijan in a long time, but it appears slightly lighter in color.
Robin, congratulations on your son’s voting milestone today!
My BPAL order arrived over the weekend, so my SOTD is Nasty Woman.
Twins
I’m getting a lot of coffee from this. Strong coffee. Maybe that’s the ‘black fig’. Patchouli too, and the vanilla bourbon. What’s it like to your nose?
You smell great! Interesting. When I sniff the bottle, I can definitely smell the bourbon vanilla with everything else. On my skin, it gives the impression of a soft patchouli incense–so I’m guessing that’s the oud and fig mixing with the patch–and I can’t detect the vanilla at all. My skin tends to amplify basenotes like crazy, so it’s a typical result.
(PS my autocorrect turned “oud and fig” into “kid and dig”. ????)
Did DS and Durga also do a Nasty Woman? I think I saw it on Facebook. Or maybe a dream I had.
No, you didn’t dream it! I just looked, and there was a post on their FB page–although it seems like it was just a humorous photo and not a real frag. If I’m wrong, someone let me know so I can buy it…
How is the staying power of Nasty Woman? The notes sound really enticing
It’s good. I applied a good swipe (with the wand cap I bought with it) the other night before I went to bed, and I could still smell it the next morning.
I’ve been out and about today and have a class this evening, so nothing yet. Depending on my mood later tonight, I may break out Dior J’Adore l’Absolu. This flanker is close to original 1999 J’Adore, the scent of pure happiness, to my nose. It’s either that or one of my remedial natural scents, such as La Via del Profumo Lake Blossom. Good luck, everyone!
Sorry, this was supposed to be a standalone below. I think I forgot to hit post, and then when I started to reply here, it came up with the comment box.
What I was going to say here is that there is something in Nasty Woman that makes me cough, but it was cheap and I like the suffragette label very much. The scent reminds me of Chanel Coco, which is certainly one of the more subversive Chanels.
Oh dear. Sorry it makes you cough! I wonder what it is?
I love the suffragette label! It definitely doesn’t smell at all like it on my skin, but I love Coco, so I’ll have to sniff the juice again in the bottle…
If there is anything citrusy, it may be whatever is in Profumum Roma Acqua Viva that also makes me cough on first spritz.
We went to vote at 7 this morning and as usual had a great time making fun of the Hibernian Hall with it’s stinky beer grotto and life size statue of Saint Patrick clutching a miniature church while shaking his finger at two adorable snakeys at his feet. The ballot people were really efficient this year and the line moved fast. I was too groggy to put on perfume, but my husband’s Cuir Ottoman was more than enough for the both of us.
With all due respect to those of you who like that teapot, I find it simply hideous! Proud though I may be (at least most of the time) to stand beside the American flag, I don’t find it (or most other flags) particularly pretty.
Robin, what a great milestone! And have a great time on your upcoming college visits
Hello to you all from Barthelona! The hotel is not nearly as dreadful as its billing process might have led me to believe (still not resolved, btw; I’ve decided to leave a scathing review). Since arriving a couple hours ago, I’ve already gone shopping for some ham and cheese aaaaaand maybe a bracelet. I haven’t seen any snifferies yet, but I’m on a no-buy anyway, so it wouldn’t matter if I did.
I ran a bit because no restaurants open for dinner until 20:30, so I no longer smell of the Epic I put on before leaving. I’ve brought three plastic samples with me, and I think my post-shower scent will be Eau de Sisley 3, which is almost a dupe for Poivre Samarcande.
I also voted by mail a few weeks ago! Keeping my fingers crossed awaiting the outcome of this horrific 16-month election season.
Hope you have a wonderful stay and hope you have some time to see the city. We had grilled ham & cheese sandwiches a few nights ago with jamon serrano and aged white cheddar, but both were from Trader Joe’s and surely pale in comparison to what you’ll be enjoying there
I can’t believe your billing issue hasn’t been resolved. Incidents like that must make returning home some kind of solace – we’re quite spoiled with responsive customer service here.
Enjoy Barthelona! :-). I remember ordering a tortilla and getting a potato omelette, not what I was expecting. LOL.
I rather like our Canadian maple leaf flag. Being a citizen of France, Canada and the USA I have several choices but the maple leaf is my favorite.
I don’t love it or hate it, but the idea of a teapot that’s just for display is entirely foreign to me!
Have a GREAT time in Barcelona, that was one of my favorite vacation cities ever.
My sister-in-law has chicken motif teapots for display only on the space between the cabinets and the ceiling which then spilled over to the fireplace mantles.
I did not even know chicken motif teapots were a big enough thing to collect, but I should have known! My grandmother collected cow creamers — that is, cream pitchers in the shape of cows.
Another day – another iris!
It’s L’Attesa day!
Lovely.
Woop woop!
I took both my kids with me to vote today. We waited roughly 45 minutes, and they did much better than I had hoped. My sotd is Alien Absolue.
Always good when the kids manage more patience than you expect!
Some reminants of Cuir de Lancome from yesterday, totally forgot today. But in the voting spirit as we have our quarterly vote end of the month. The topics are not always great and sometimes annoying, but I do feel lucky I can vote on such a wide range and will be able to do so from abroad too. That being said, I’d love to vote with the booth or the more traditional ways, it just seems more momentous! Anyway hope everyone has a nice day!
SOTD is Angela Ciampagna “Liquo”.
Top: lavender, violet and lemon;
Mid: anise, licorice, hay and coumarin;
Base: incense, vetiver and tonka bean.
The hay kind of reminds me of MCG’s “Elephant & Roses”, which however is a lighter and brighter scent than this. This one was intersting to try but I won’t be taking it any further. :^)
Robin, I appreciate your keeping this a politics free zone, although I’m not sure at the end of the day such places exist! At this point anything beyond complaining about the length of the lines and the number of commercials feels contentious to me.
More importantly I realized that what New Sibet most ️smells like is ash and iris, but funky ash rather than the dry ash of Iris Cendre.
No, it doesn’t exist, but we can do our best! Hope nobody is mad at having their comments deleted.
I think you were very restrained!
In Prada Iris Absolue, more suitable to the season.
You smell good!
I’m wearing First, for totally partisan reasons so I’ll just have to let you guess
2 thumbs up !!
First is on my to-sniff list! I’ll get there eventually…
I gotcha, hot Sriracha. My fragrance choice for today (see above) was, like, totally coincidental. ????
You’ve got to try it! I got the EDT in a generous freebie meet and it is one of my very favorites now (so much that I also now have the EDP and parfum)
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
What’s an iris week with Chanel No. 19 EDP? Not an Iris Week! It’s perfect for Election Day as it will fortify me for whatever the outcome. I am uncharacteristically on my way home already and all this really means is that I will need to log back in to work at some point tonight, besides being on a scheduled call with an Asia- Pacific colleague.
In other news, I believe Macys (at least Herald Square) is now carrying Hermes.!!I have $40 in Machs money to spend. Of course there’s 20% for VIB starting the 10th. Decisions decisions!
Wow, hopefully you can combine your free money with the discount? I am wanting Voyage parfum and Jour d’Hermès Absolue. What are you contemplating?
This should teach me not to hurry up with the comments! I wanted to hit send as the train reached my stop. For the Macy’s money, I’m thinking Eau des Merveilles but want to see if I can get it cheaper with the Sephora 20% off. I want the smaller bottle even though it is pre expensive per mL because the larger bottle is too big for my hand! You’ve got some good choices there!
Completely agree about the smaller Eau des Merveilles. I love that bottle.
Comparing Nirvana Rose with Stella this afternoon. Openings are both bright green roses. On me, NR seems linear. I prefer Stella’s dry down. On a different note, I got to drive to the polling station and stand in line TWICE because I forgot that I had taken my license out of my wallet. ???? Yippee!
That’s just the sort of thing I’d do! In fact, before leaving the house today, I specifically double-checked on the whereabouts of my license for that very reason. ????
Ditto that: NR seems fairly linear, and I prefer Stella’s drydown.
Voting by mail that doesn’t require a qualifying reason such as for absentee ballots – I’ll never go back to a polling place again.
Posting really late today, because I had a massage this morning and then I had to stop by Ikea for a curtain rod and some finials…but I came out with a new perfume cabinet. I had been looking at something tall, like a Hemnes, but there was a Sallskap floor sample 1/3 off. It will just fit the space I have in the bedroom. I don’t have to assemble it and it will be delivered tonight! SOTD is Kyoto. Sniffing this brings me serenity no matter what happens tonight.
The new perfume cabinet sounds very exciting! Especially, since it comes assembled.
I wore Sballo for Election Day and tonight I am wearing
A spritz of YSL Cinema that I borrowed from a good friend.
