Monday scent of the day 10/31

Posted by Robin on 31 October 2016 159 Comments

chocolate pumpkin

Happy Halloween! What fragrance are you wearing?

Yesterday it was in the high 70s here, today it will not get out of the 50s. I'm in Fendi Theorema.

Reminder: 11/4 will be Peace Out Friday — wear a fragrance that brings / gives peace. Suggested by Lovestosmellgood.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

And to you! We are prepared — I bought a huge back of candy this year and we don’t usually get that many trick or treaters.

I usually buy mulitple huge bags – for myself. After gaining 5+ lbs last year from halloween through xmas, this year I bought none. (And no trick or treaters here.)

My trick: I buy candy I don’t like or can’t eat due to various dietary restrictions.

coming off a busy weekend..two halloween parties and Diwali celebration.
For last night’s festivities I wore a dab of 10CC and a spray of Samsara just before the event.
Was such a delight to celebrate Diwali with my family & friends and to remind myself of such a peaceful evening filled with light and love, SOTD Samsara again. Happy New Year to all whom celebrate.

    Samsara=Sandalwood bliss=Peace

    Happy Halloween

Really looking forward to the community project this week…

For me, peace=essential oils…so I will be wearing my concoctions all week…..and finally making a dent in my essential oil perfume collection!

Today is “Winter Holly”….fir balsam, labdanum, vanilla and a complex amber blend from White Lotus gifted to me by the person who inspired this essential oil perfume.

Poor Man’s Tea= PG Tips with Lavender syrup

And tonight I am having pasta with pumpkin sauce :)

the lavender syrup is really good…made by a local lavender farm…it was sitting in my fridge for a while until I decided to use it in my tea for a bit of sweetness and lavender essence…

that sweet potato gnocchi sounds scrumptious! Now I am relly getting hungry!

I had chicken pot pie served inside a roasted pumpkin at lunch and pumpkin ravioli (thank you Costco) at dinner! I haven’t had pumpkin soup yet because every place that serves it makes it cream-based.

That pumpkin looks like it’s made out of candy.

I’m in the last of my Forest Walk sample. Brisk, sharp and green – somehow it seems to “fit” today weather wise.

I went running after the intense rain storm last night and the streets were (wet) autumn-colored confetti.

Second day of testing Tom Ford’s Vert Boheme. I think it’s really, really pretty, but am a bit concerned about lasting power. Then again, I’ve been wearing it to work, which is a real workout for a scent, so I’ll probably need to try it on a day off to really figure out what it’s lasting power is like.

Happy Halloween and Happy Monday! An especially delightful day if you happen to be having a “no work” day, like myself. I feel I will be much more successful with “no work” versus “no buy,” since the former blends so well with my natural inclinations and is most likely hidden in the depths my DNA????

SOTD is another cheap treat called Eau des Missions, purportedly the poor man’s version of SPIRITUEUSE DOUBLE VANILLE!

Happy trick or treat day to all! ????

Oh I love hearing about cheap treats as once I am off my no buy I am going to be seeking out cheap treats from here on in…..I thought that might be a nice community project….fragrances whose full bottles won’t break the bank…..asking selfishly so that I can get good suggestions :)

but for now I am going to pass as I really want to make some headway and work down my fragrant liquids, especially my samples, decants and essential oils….I have adopted a minimalist approach with my clothing and books and am now heading in that direction with my perfumes as well…..

Happy Halloween!!! I’m missing corn syrup and crappy American Halloween candy today.

In Feu d’Issey today. This is just the second time I’ve tried this sample, even though I’ve had it for most of a year, because it is some horrifically potent stuff. I don’t think FdI is for me. Instant headache!

We have unseasonable warm sunshine today, so very unHallowe’en-ish.

I have a week of peaceful (or maybe not) samples selected, starting today with Phaedon “Rue de Lilas”.
Notes: white lilac, lily of the valley, rosewood and powdery musk.

It might be out of place on a more typical end October day, but it’s okay today. Not really my thing though.

Wearing BPAL Snake Oil as I wanted a vanilla lift this AM
As I live exactly in the middle of Snowfluff Nowhere, I likely have much more candy than I need, but I am certain I can deal with that.

I received my shipping notice for my 2 Tauer body oils yesterday – super fast!!!!

Is it tonight (All Souls) or tomorrow night (All Saints) that everyone lights up the graveyards with candles and lamps? I saw some photos while visiting friends in Wroclaw, and it looked really beautiful.

It’s on All Saints Day (1st of Nov.) when people light up the graveyards with lamps and decorate them with flowers.
For that I will be visiting graves of my grandparents tomorrow together with my mum & dad.

Bought a tub of candy yesterday in case any of the neighbours’ kids come trick-or-treating. But they didn’t come! I ate half of the stuff myself. For my teeth and waistline’s sake, I hope they come today and I can get rid of all that chocolate.
Also, turns out, my new cat was entirely unruffled by fireworks which some people let off at the end of our street. He barely even twitched an ear at the noise! Maybe he’s deaf? He can certainly hear the food rattle from far off…

I’m wearing Omnia Paraiba, which I blind bought at Ulta yesterday. I had seen a few mentions of it around here and was curious. They never have a tester, so I finally just decided to buy the 10ml, since it’s only $25. Thankfully I like it. It doesn’t seem to have much sillage to speak of, but the passionfruit note in the top kind of reminds me of Calyx a bit (at least older Prescriptives Calyx.. I don’t know what the Clinique version is like). I like that they included the kind of musty edge that passionfruit has to keep the scent just a bit off-kilter and not just straightforward fruity, like Calyx did with guava.

I am planning to give out candy tonight. I bought a bunch of candy yesterday. It’s my first Halloween in this house, so I don’t have any idea how many kids I’ll get.

SOTD = Guerlain Habit Rouge Dress Code

It’s a flanker to the original Habit Rouge, definitely unksex. Perhaps my nose is broken as I do not smell any leather at all. If you have not read it yet, head on over to Kafka’s blog to read all about it:
    http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2015/09/25/guerlain-habit-rouge-dress-code/

If you’re at all curious about it and hate to pay small sample prices, there’s a split going on in basenotes.

I’m certain I’m not the first one mentioning it. If your reading comments fromnthe bottom up, do head on over to STC’s Halloween 20% off flash sale today only with code HALLOWEEN. You’re welcome :-)

No little kids here, we are all old on my street!

Everyone from the weekend who commented about Andy Tauer’s Amber body oil gets an enabler pin from me, I caved last night. Today I’m wearing Musc Ravageur. I get mostly spice from this and thought it was a good autumn choice.

Another rainy day…Portland has had more than 8 inches of rain this month (usually it’s about 3) and although I love the rain, I would really like a couple of sunny days to get some Vitamin D and some yard work done.

My boys are high school age and we never ever get trick-or-treaters. I live half a mile off the main road, but then the “main road” is a divided 55mph four-lane in the country with houses pretty spread out. I miss living in a *neighborhood*, but my husband grew up with no nearby neighbors and he doesn’t like living all crowded up, as he calls it. One year in an apartment complex when he was a college student apparently did him in, and even when we lived in town on a 1/3 acre lot, he hated it. Boo.

Rant over. :( sorry. Wearing the very-classic chypre Pierre de Velay No. 11, which is a lot like Mitsouko with more rose and jasmine instead of peach.

Am testing Alahine on one wrist and Barkhane on the other and am swooning in gorgeous wafts of… not sure which one? Possibly it’s the combination of both. Either I should have tested them separately or they should always be worn together.

Wore YSL Cinema to a fantastic production of A Raisin in the Sun yesterday. Whenever I wear it I feel like I’d be perfectly happy if this were the only perfume in my wardrobe. Always gorgeous; very versatile.

Am having uncharacteristic indecisiveness about whether to buy a 5 or 8 ml decant of Poudre de Riz from the STC sale. Will make a decision before day’s end.

Won’t be handing out candy tonight but will be getting a soup delivery. There was a soup guy at our farmers’ market this summer who delivers now that all the markets have closed. It’s all we’ve been eating for the past month or so. If I actually had to cook dinner, I’d be lost!

Right? I usually make my own but if someone else will do it for me, I’ll happily pay for it. He also makes the stocks where I rarely do. I love white bean soups with smoked pork. And cabbage, though I suppose you’re right about overdoing it. I love it sauteed with lots of thyme & pepper, served alongside pork. Okay, now I’m getting hungry.

Good idea for the cabbage! Maybe I’ll try that. I make my own stocks, too, because I don’t find store-bought to be very flavorful. It freezes quite well, so it’s not really that time-intensive.
