Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
Day four of Halloween treats brings me around to Red Hots: Serge Lutens Rousse (hat tip to Monkeytoe).
Reminder: 10/28 will be Treat Friday — wear a fragrance that reminds you of candy. Suggested by Happy888cat.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the paint blob is Benjamin Moore Pumpkin Spice.
I’m wearing the pretty candied rose and violet of L’Artisans Drole de Rose today.
You smell fun!
Suitably moody in Une Rose Chyprée. Tea is another non-descript Kusmi Earl Grey, Troika. I’d rather drink something else, but at work,so no access to other tea.
I intended to pay a short visit (too busy) and am happy to let you know we’re twins today. Hope the mood lifts, Une Rose Chyprée is such a beauty, not moody to me, just excellent company.
Actually I just meant that it has this slightly nostalgic feel about it that goes with autumn. And yes I am moody, but not particularly so today 😉
It’s a beauty, and I love it.
Hmmmmmmm girls, you 2 are tempting me to try this one!! You must smell great!
My SOTD is Atelier des Ors Larmes du Desert from our splitmeet in September. It is really perfect for this cool cloudy autumnal day in DC. I find it softer and more subtle than Tauer’s LdDM which is perfect for my mood. Plus the bottle is beautiful (reminiscent of VdN!)
I can’t recommend Une Rose Chypree highly enough. Hands down my current favourite rose.
Ah, gotcha! And in full agreement on all counts.
You smell great. 🙂 I am not crazy about the Kusmi earl grey, much prever St. Petersburg and Violet.
While the Violet wasn’t quite my thing it did have the merit of being original and interesting. I haven’t yet tried St.Petersburg but it’s in my set of 5 Kusmi mini’s. I liked Prince Vladimir.
My favorite Tauer — everytime I wear Une Rose Chypree I’m surprised anew by just how good it is! And we’re Kusmi cousins today; I started my day with their Violet.
After reading Kevin’s review, I stopped by Diptyque boutique at Grand Central on my way to dinner last night. I tried the 34 collection and none of them made my credit card close to coming out of my wallet. They are nice, but not for me.
Today I am in L’Eau Scandaleuse and this will go on a FB one day dream list. I got a sample of this from a generous NSTer -and I am very grateful
Tea this morning is The des concubines and mix of black and green tea-great for this gray cold day
You smell great!!
That’s pretty much how I felt about those Diptyques, though the bottles look really nice lined up together.
they did look nice!
The sales associates there were very sweet but new nothing about the notes in the this new line I was testing.
I am sticking with fancy candy shop scents and am wearing Elixir des Merveilles.
I haven’t started my fist cup of tea, yet.
Ack, could not post until I had my tea!
I am ninety three pound walking Dagoba lavender infused chocolate bar this morning.
Voyage (fabulous lavender absolute) over Chocolate Man over Nocturnes Alchemy Navaliday Seth’s Secret Incredible Hot Cocoa Cookie (by far the sweetest fragrance I have EVER experienced!) Three more samples-GONE!
Poor Man’s Tea- Newman’s Own Organic Black paired with Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride- sweet!
Yummy!! Be careful when you go out, especially around lunchtime 😉
Lucky for me I will be eating lunch at my desk.
You win!
LOL! And now I really want a Dagoba bar!
Did you dump all 3 samples over yourself? I am impressed. 🙂
Yup! I am WAFTING in sweetness!
Way to empty those samples!
🙂
This afternoon I sprayed my gray wool jacket with the last of my Jo Malone Dark Amber and Gingerlily travel spray…with all the recent talk about it I really wanted to smell it but my skin is overloaded on sweets….so another perfume done! and my jacket smells fabulous!!!!
Bravo! I used up a sample of that JM Dark Amber & Gingerlily body cream today too. 🙂
Olmsted & Vaux (Phlur). Too green for fall, will put this sample away until next Spring.
I do love green, but even I probably wear it more in spring.
Montale Intense Cafe. It’s the inside of the wrapper of a dark chocolate bar with just a dusting of the candy remaining.
I stopped in at Ari’s yesterday and left attached to a small bottle of Felanilla. I had been eyeing Vanilla Hinoki, but it went flat on my skin.
…So nice to have her discerning nose to help me better articulate what I was sniffing.
Oh, does Felanilla come in small bottles as well these days? Good to know, been coveting it for ages, but too cheap to buy the 100 ml.
Yes, Ari has a cute 30 ml bottle.
What is the name of her store? Not that I am buying anything..still on my no buy and will be for a while…but I can peruse online…..
Its Arielle Shoshana.
I’ve since spotted them on the PG site as well. Cute as a button.
I have a decant of Felanilla. It’s a great scent for fall.
Felanilla has been on the back burner for years, maybe this year I will finally buy it. It’s very nice.
Love Felanilla and wouldn’t say no to a 30ml bottle. My decant is dwindling…you smell great!
Wouldn’t it be nice if 30 ml bottles were the new standard? It does seem like things are moving in that direction (slowly.) And perhaps eventually we’ll get more 15 ml releases?
In my last drops of Christian Dior Dune. I am so happy that another bottle is gone and even though I love it, I will not replace it. There are new scents that I would like to try and also so many that are in my FB buy list. TGIT and waiting anxiously for the working week to finish.
It’s sad and hard to let a fragrance you love go.
Easy scent to get a decant of if you want. I’ve not purchased a bottle ever but always have some available via decants.
I am continuing my intrepid investigation of 5 samples that read like they should be ‘sweet treats’. My mission – to fearlessly expose impostors, to bravely try new things, and to unashamedly split infinitives while doing so.
Sample #4 and SOTD is Huitième Art “Sucre d’Ébène”.
Notes: woodsy notes, sugar, benzoin and hazelnut.
It doesn’t smell of ebony, or any other wood, or of hazelnuts for that matter. More a sightly artificial fruit syrup that’s been watered down a bit.
Treat factor: 2.5/5, it’s okay but a bit too reticent for my taste. I need my perfume to remind me I’m wearing it.
If this were a sweet it would be: Japanese grape candy.
Thank you for the grape candy warning 🙂
Our olfactory superhero! Yay!
Good morning, NST! Woke up in dire need of coffee, so no surprise I ended up in Bond No 9 New Haarlem! Still my favorite Bond, although Chinatown is also wonderful.
Did I ever tell y’all I lucked into two interviews at Bond headquarters while living in New York a few years ago? Not much to report, except that their Bond Street office is very cute- oversized Bond bottles everywhere!
Ooh, what position were was the interviews for?
A quick email inbox search reveals it was an e-commerce assistant job! In retrospect, it was actually very kind of them to meet with me at all; the job listing called for 2 years of experience, and I had all of four and half months! 🙂
Ari, we are SO happy to have you down here with US!!
…she says selfishly…
And I wouldn’t trade that for all the New Haarlem in the world!!
I’m wearing Knot today, which although wrong for the season, is right for the weather.
Yay! You smell lovely! I love to wear it in the winter. It always gets compliments!!
Kiss Me Tender is my sweet, vanilla, almond treat for the day. It helps boost me up after staying up writing until 4 am.
Holding off on today’s chocolate consumption until dessert today. Or trying to, anyway 🙂
Love KMT! You smell lovely today!
You smell fantastic!
Enjoy your treat
Hope the early am hours were productive ones. And you’re more restrained than me chocolate-wise, I made chocolate pudding cake for breakfast. To go with my cappuccino, of course. Caffeine overload.
That sounds MARVELOUS!!
Good morning. I’m trying to stay chipper despite the rather drizzly, dark weather that made it impossible to get out of bed on time this morning. It’s only 9:45 and I’ve already had one cup of coffee and now on to tea.
I’m trying out Venezia today from a sample ihadanidea sent me. It’s very sweet and fruity with a touch of vanilla and woods. It’s sorta candied so I guess this works for this week’s theme.
It is gross out, isn’t it?
Definitely. I was seriously hating on the alarm clock because of how dark it was due to the clouds this morning.
I have a work errand to run later and we’re doing a company happy hour at the end of the day. I’d prefer to go home and curl up on the sofa, but I suppose free alcohol will suffice 😉
Gross up here too! I used to wear Venezia back in the day. Very lovely oriental!
I wore Venezia as well as the flanker Venezia Pastello back in the day…loved the bottles too!
I read up on it being a typical 90s perfume and I definitely got that vibe from it.
Ambre di Venezia?
It’s just Venezia Laura Biagiotti as far as I know.
gross day for me too…flurries that turned into sleet…hey, at least you smell good!
Flurries! Ugh, WAY WAY WAY too soon! I keep reading about states around us getting snow. I’m defiantly holding out that we’ll have a long, temperate autumn yet.
We’re getting that right now in Montreal. Ugh.
Gross where I am as well, as it will be until July 15 2017 or thereabouts.
I am wearing Incense Rose courtesy of a generous NST’er, loving it a lot. I am off today at home and it feels good. I think I would never go to work if I could, stay at home all the time.
Staying home is great, I love being retired. And you smell fantastic!
Ditto!! I love, love, love retirement she said as she preps her first contract as an independent consultant!!!
Isn’t Incense Rose fantastic!
Incense Rose is so great!
Shanghai lily for no other reason than its where my hand landed this morning.
Good place to land. You smell lovely! One of my favorite TFs.
One of my favourite TFs for the first 15 minutes…then it disappears on me completely :((
That’s a good one to randomly pick.
I am wearing Mon Precieux Nectar courtesy of the ever generous Hajusuuri from the splitmeet. What a treat and it seems to have great lasting power as well. Have a great day everyone!
I love Mon Precieux Nectar, sweet almondy goodness.
So good!
I’ve been meaning to ask about Vol de Nuit. I just got a sample of the EDT at STC Guerlain sale. Is there a better concentration than tbe EDT? It is beautiful, but it disappears so quickly.
Oohh…VdN has been on my curiosity radar for a while. I may look to ebay for a more concentrated version.
Nice to see you bright and early! Hope your work day is less brutal. You smell lovely????
Thanks Elisa! It’s still busy… I hope you have achreat day too!
Love that one! it is a treat!
Mmmm, you smell wonderful!
????
Bright and early today – well not bright as it is yucky dark and raining outside. Running out for a blood test and will follow up with a nice latte and a moon pie 🙂 SOTD – Taklamakan to keep warm.
Have a good day everyone
I just love the name of that one!’
I do, too.
That all sounds delicious, apart from the blood test.
The breakfast of champions! Go you ????????
How do you like Taklamakan?
Love it. It is becoming the top favorite which means I will treasure and not wear it
Noooooo! You have to wear it.
On the bright side, it transfers very easily and lasts forever on fabric so as long as you smear it about a bit it might be possible to enjoy it for several days each time. 😉
I got some on the sleeve of my robe one evening and managed to actually transfer some back to my arm two days later. I have also performed this miracle with the spot my arm hits on the kitchen tablecloth.
I am wearing Alahiiiine for the very first time.
Oh you smell Divine!
What do you think of it? Is it love?
I hate to admit it, but no. Koenigsburg used the term “too reticent” to describe something else, and I think that is how I’m feeling about it. Maybe because I’m dabbing rather than spraying? How much should I have applied?
You know, it’s funny… everybody who loves Alahine seems to have taken about four tries with it before falling for it.
Not that I insist you do that. Just sharing the stats on it. 🙂 My personal experience was a lot of “I don’t like that, but I want to smell it again,” until I skipped right through the “don’t like it” part and went straight to “want to smell it again.”
I’m a little surprised it’s not blooming, though. I find it kinda big (and I normally don’t like that).
SOTD is Bois des Iles edt. Perfect for our dreary icy weather!
Oh Ann, sorry to read it is icy already! Bois des Iles will hopefully keep you warm. Please say hi to Emily, I am just too busy to write to her (or comment here more often).
Ice! Ice! Baby! I’m redirecting hot Florida weather your way! You will be warm and toasty in 5 seconds flat! BTW, you smell wonderful????
Chergui is giving me the necessary fortification on this dark, drizzly morning.
Chergui is just so sumptuous! Wearing that scent makes me feel satisfied and slightly over-stuffed, similar to the way I always feel after Thanksgiving or Christmas gluttony. You smell fab????
Hermes Cuir d’Ange is so edible that I avoid wearing it, even though I love it, because it constantly prompts me to go look for a delicious pastry or candy. That’s not what I’m wearing, though, because eating more is the last thing, especially around the holiday season.
Trying to work my way through the April Aromatics sample set, instead. This is one of the rare times when I lament that they are all so beautiful because how can I choose?
Gah, I got to finally smell that on a silver fox of a gentlemen. His wife had bought it for herself but he basically hijacked it. I got permission to have a hug and a deep sniff. I told his wife that if he was not married he would be in trouble, and she said that when he puts on the perfume, HE WAS looking for trouble.
Amazing.
Hysterical!!!!!!!
He was blushing the entire time, the scamp!
Great story! It was really wicked of JCE to launch Cuir d’Ange before handing the reins to Christine Nagel. 😉
“silver fox of a gentleman”
WOW. I absolutely LOVE how you described him. That’s a great story too! His wife has a good sense of humor.
The lady was quite lovely in her own right to be honest! And they were out celebrating their 28th- I think the trouble the husband was looking for was for later! 🙂
Love Cuir d’Ange and that story!
They are, aren’t they. I will by a FB of Calling All Angels very soon.
That’s my second favorite so far; I like Nectar of Love even better. And I’ve only tried 4 or 5 of them so far.
Grey skies but not too dark, the rain is not supposed to start until 5pm. However it is only 3C, rather nippy. I am cozied up with the dogs in an incensey cloud of Le Labo Vetiver 46. Those Le Labos rarely smell like their names and I avoided this one for a long time thinking it was a vetiver scent when really it’s incense.
Oh I need to try this one. Stayed away from it for the same reason
I like that one. Have you tried CdG Man 2? Nearly identical to me.
Another one to try. I am just dipping my toes into Vetiver, so usually anything that has the V-word scares me away. Until pixel introduced me to Malle’s Vetiver I had none-none-none in my little collection. FM’s Vetiver is great, but I do not think it is standard vetiver, so the V-word still scares me. Incense and smoke on the other end ….
Yep, I like that one too.
SOTD is Guerlain Petite Robe Noir Couture. I’m a little embarrassed by how much I like it, as its certainly sweet enough to qualify as a “treat”.
No need to be embarrassed when you smell delicious 🙂
Yummy! I like the regular edp version.
SOTD is Naomi Goodsir Or du Serail – toasted coconut, candied pineapple, and sweet pipe tobacco. Yummy.
You smell great.
That one is so good, I have to fight not to hoard it. I think I need a backup bottle to feel safer.
🙂
Cold and drizzly. Booo. I’m in the warmly, spiced sandalwood of Chanel Égoïste.
Ooh…enjoy. Your description sounds wonderful.
It’s definitely worth sampling next time you’re in a dept store (it’s not the Platinum which is wildly popular for some reason). Very unisex to me.
I will try it the next time I leave Petticoat Junction. There’s not much retail therapy in my area. ????
Boooo. Don’t like today’s weather at all.
SOTD is SL Ambre Sultan, yum.
If anyone’s curious about my SP Parfums ordering issues yesterday, I exchanged some email with the nice owner, and he’s updated his software, and it’s working today. So yay! There’s a nice treat for me!
That’s a good one for cool weather, which we never, ever (ok, hardly!) get. You smell great!
Hooray! And, mmmm, that’s a cosy one.
Had a dream last night that the MFK rep refused to sell me a bottle of Grand Soir…very odd and the first fragrance dream I’ve had.
So, SOTD is Grand Soir from my sample, from which I’m getting a lot of mileage. Take THAT, sales rep!
I’m planning making more caramel apples today, but I’m also going to dip them in various kinds of chocolate as well. I’ll have to sample to make sure they are tasty, of course. Life is hard. ????
Yum (SOTD) and YUM (apples)! 🙂
Mm-mmmm! Good!
Enjoy!
I love the red candy apples !!
The caramel I leave for everyone else.
Enjoy!
I have never had a red candy apple! Must rectify that. Stat!????
Deva- stop making me hungry!!!! 🙂
I’m going to send some your way! Cold, crisp, tangy organic Granny Smith apples drowned in caramel and drizzled in various types of chocolate…!
Perhaps you no buy frustration is seeping into your dreams. ????
Dessert sounds yummy!
I think you hit the nail on the head, Petunia. I am subconsciously fragrantly frustrated. I can imagine what Freud would make of that…!
Using my cell phone today with fat fingers… ugh…
Mmmmm, sounds delicious!!!
GALA day–so I am in Tauer’s Rose Delight oil today and will layer up tonight with Lyric or Une Rose (plan to decide at the last minute!) Will report back on what I hope will be a huge success and lots of fun. The ever awesome Brian Stokes Mitchell is singing for us tonight. Can’t wait!
Love all smells and songs !!! Enjoy.
Grabbed a Scentbird on the way out the door……
SOTD: Marc Jacobs Dot. #MEH
🙂
AGREED.
Me three!
Ciel de GUM MFK.
Random b!tch o’ the day (and indulge me because my punctuation is my own unique system) : can everyone, everywhere please learn the difference between
COMPLEMENTED
and
COMPLIMENTED ?
That is all.
😉
But why? Funny story…in an email to a friend I explained to her that I like to “decompose” at the pizza parlor where I wait for them to make me a pie before I head home…this is what you get when you type emails at 5am in the morning! Now we talk about how we will enjoy our weekends “decomposing”…..
and may I add that she and I have that same warped sense of humor….which is why I love her so 🙂 !!!
Because everyone has now learned how to spell confussed (sic)!!
LOLOLOL
Gotta b!tch bout sumpfin.
😉
Ha, that would be too much rest! 😀
Compliment is when you compliment someone on how nice they look, and a complimentary sample is related to that sense. Remember “I” like to give compliments.
Complement is to complete the whole, in a sense, to fill in around something else, or more metaphorically, to go well together. Think of the E in complete.
http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/compliment-versus-complement
I complement you on your awareness of grammar, Bear, which compliments your general good sense. Hopefully your note will effect how people think about this and help them affect a change in their habits. :^)
BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!
AND TOO FUNNY!!!!
????
LOL! PERFECT.
*twitch* Ok, fine, it’s funny.
????????????
Gypsy Water for me today. Looking forward to the weekend. Sometimes Thursday is my favorite evening because it’s all still ahead of me (kind of silly, I know). But today I still feel like I will have great fun and accomplish great things and by Saturday night, I’m already behind.
I thought Rousse would be perfect for me, but there’s something in the drydown that doesn’t agree with me at all. I’m dying to try the new Bapteme du Feu to see what that one is like.
Also, just want to add that swapmeet has been a blast!
So glad the swapmeet was fun!
Agree on the swapmeet! I’ve had some not-so-good experiences in the past but this time around I ended up the nicest, most generous people imaginable (looking at you, springpansy! – and lots of others 🙂 ) Wildly successful for me and I hope the people on the other end of my swaps feel the same way.
SotD = Annick Goutal Songes, one of my first true-love scents from a few years ago when I fell down the perfume rabbit hole.
I shared my story in the Fragrant Awakenings series over at CaFleureBon. If you might like to please take a look, you would make my day:
http://www.cafleurebon.com/cafleurebon-fragrant-awakenings-annick-goutal-songes-isabelle-doyen-camille-goutal-2006-reawakening-my-senses-perfume-draw/
Oh that was you! I just read it yesterday! I would have left a comment but I tried to subscribe and it kept rejecting me so I gave up…….
having been a guest contributor to various blogs many years ago I know it is very exciting to have your first post…well done and hope to see more 🙂 !!!
that would be register not subscribe….
Thanks so much! It is fun to contribute, to give back a bit, since I’ve enjoyed the work of so many online perfume people.
I will take a look!
Yay! and thank you. 🙂
I read and enjoyed your essay the other day! Glad to know that the contributor is “you”!
Oh, thank you, I’m glad you got some enjoyment out of the story. I do think it is fun to find perfume people on more than one site. We are an interesting tribe.
This is a great article. I really enojoyed it.
Thank you, I’m so glad. 🙂
Thanks for the link. I heard a story on NPR a couple of weeks ago about people who’d become totally anosmic (due to illnesses, accidents, etc.) and it was incredibly distressing. One of the people featured had turned things around in exactly the same way you did and now runs classes for people who find themselves in the same situation.
And now I absolutely must try Songes!
I hear that NPR story, too. It is amazing what we take for granted when it comes to our sense of smell. And I do hope you will try Songes when you have a chance. It is a beauty.
Thanks for sharing that, Tiffanie! It’s fortunate your senses have returned full force. And I’ve similarly looked for that elusive orange blossom breeze scent that I know from growing up in So Cal. Nothing has quite matched it, yet.
California Reverie makes me think of CA orange groves. But in my case, it’s a manufactured memory 😉
The closest I’ve come is the much unloved Le Labo Fleur d’Oranger. People find it boring, but it closely matches my memory. I haven’t smelled the VC&A. I’d actually rather have it as an environmental smell.
You’re right, that SoCal scent is particularly elusive, finding it in a bottle may be impossible, but we seem to live for the search, yes? Sometimes when I am in my mum’s backyard I will take her garden shears and snip citrus leaves and blossoms, lavender, rosemary, honeysuckle, jasmine, plumeria, whatever is blooming, and then pile it all in a bowl that I leave on the table by my bed. Sweet dreams!
Brava, Tiffanie! A kind perfume fairy sent me a decant of Songes. I will need to revisit.
Grazie, hajusuuri, I hope you will enjoy Songes. The dry down gets me right in the heart every time.
What a lovely story! I can only imagine how awful it must be to lose your sense of smell and consequently taste.
I’m in the wonderfully spicy and warm Kohl Gris from DSH Perfumes
Such a great name for a perfume, too.
Happy Thursday!
1) Rainy and humid; ants are making their presence felt. Time to get out the BORIC ACID.
2) SOTD: Stash elixir, on skin and hair.
What do you use Boric Acid for? Ants?
Yes, you would use the boric acid on ants and on floor surfaces. The boric acid gets into the thorax breathing holes, and causes abrasion. In addition, it’s cause metabolic shut down when the ants eat it. What you want to hope for is that the ants survive for long enough to take back food to the nests and spread the poison around.
Right now, the wet, mild, humid conditions are causing an explosion of ant births and thus household invasions of ants.
L’Artisan Jour de Fête. This might be the perfect light, neutral, clean-skin vanilla/almond scent. So cozy without being either heavy or overly sweet.
Trying Virgilio by Dyptique. I don’t like it so far – it’s a non-stop mint on me. Can you tell I don’t like mint.
Where did you find it? It’s hard to even come by samples these days. I happen to love it.
ebay. Do you want to swap? I give it a couple more tries, but mint is not promising to me
Thanks for the offer, but I’m all swapped out at the moment. If you still have it next swap meet, we can revisit.
I only got thyme, never mint, but my bottle is an older one. It’s one of the really eccentric Diptyques, to be sure.
It’s funny how the note I do not like always gets way exaggerated for me.
I like that one, but I have to be in a particular mood. Doesn’t matter now because it’s gone…which is a shame.
Took 3 hours for the mint to settle down..now its dry herbs…yes thyme.. but it’s already on it’s way out. I guess I am hypersensitive to mint
Wearing Guerliain’s fairly new Neroli Outrenoir today…
In the opening it reminds me of something I’ve worn before as Elizabeth mentioned yesterday but not sure what…
Alas it speaks to me more of spring/summer than fall. It is nicely done but I don’t think I will need more when my sample is finished…
I was wondering about this one. Did not see it mentioned much, so I thought I just missed it.
I’ e smelled it on a tester strip and it is really good; however, it is only a available in bulb atomizer format which pretty much killed my interest. Maybe I’lll ask if Remik is willing to host a split!
Bulb atomizers are the reason why I commented on your post yesterday regarding Goirmand Coquin. If you like it, buy it as soon as possible in case it switches over to the bulb atomizer.
Tell me more about it! I am interested in giving this one a whiff
I actually get mostly tea and citrus. I think I was excited by the name…outrenoir meaning beyond black, etc. and was expecting something else/more. A bit like Coco Noir for those who were let down…of course there was the predecessor of the original Coco there to set the bar quite high. So many noirs and now ultra/outrenoirs too in the perfume world… 😉
The opening for me was a dead ringer for Séville à l’Aube, lots of orange blossom, then the myrrh takes over. It was okay but I don’t feel like I need it. As hajusuuri says, the bulb sprayer makes it a no-go anyway. Would only buy a decant at most.
Vintage Emeraude parfum, as soft and forgiving as could be. My brain & soul need deep cushioning after a five-hour battery of cognitive tests earlier this week. Two more weeks til results are in. I predict that I’m going to use up every comfort scent in my arsenal before & after. *pulls blankets up over head*
Sending hugs your way, Olenska. Sounds really unsettling, which might be an understatement.
Very best wishes and lots of soft blankets Olenksa!
Sending hugs and comfort your way. It’s so hard to wait for these things.
Wishing you comfort and calm and sending warm hopes for a very positive outcome!
Sending you warm thoughts.
Hope the results are good and things are improving. *tucks you in and brings you tea*
Hugs for you. May your beautiful vintage Emeraude comfort you.
Best wishes, olenska–for good results and comfort in the meantime!
Spray lavishly! Two weeks will come soon. Wishing you the best results!
Good luck, olenska. FWIW, your cognition has always struck me as pretty sharp. 🙂
Thinking of you — that’s a hard wait.
Sending you lots of comforting thoughts, sounds very tough what you are going through. Spritz with wild abandon.
I’m in Ambre Russe today and glad I chose it — it’s a chilly, rainy day here that’s gotten off to a rocky start due to some accidental pre-caffeine snark between me and my almost-equally sleep-deprived husband, and then coming to work and finding out that some folks here are less than supportive of the balance I’ve worked out between being a mama and working full time. It’s been such a struggle, and hearing that people are looking askance at my work made me break down crying in front of my boss. Who, thankfully, is wonderful and completely supportive, so there’s that, at least! So Ambre Russe is workin hard for me this morning with its beautiful, spice-cookies-in-the-desert embrace.
Ooh, sorry to hear that’s going on. Hopefully your supportive boss can help to set the tone for everyone else. Hang in there! *hugs*
Sounds awful but good you have a boss on your side.
Cheer up! Hugs.
I’m sending you the psychic version of a video game ‘power up’. ????
Hang in there, Isabella. Oftentimes, co-workers are ENVIOUS. of how you successfully manage home and work life and they are just it hing for attention. Glad your boss is supportive.
And they have to get their digs in before you get back to normal, which will be soon. Chin up, Superwoman.
You guys rock — thanks for the kind words!
Woke up super late today due to picking my mother up from the airport at midnight and wasn’t able to fall asleep until almost 3 this morning. So I am about to wash off this wreched J’adore and wear something else. So now, it’s off to take a shower and wear Shalimar since it’s cold and rainy out.
Hope the wonderful Shalimar warmed up your day.
I reached for my autumn staple iris today – Van Cleef & Arpels Bois d’Iris. I guess I smell good.
Indeed you do!
doing the treat today. Boise Torride. My SA gave me the store tester and said it was on its way out. I’m not sure if it has been discontinued yet or not.
Wow. I’ve not smelled that Guerlain but nice free score!
It pays to make friends with your local SA!
Chanel No. 5 L’Eau. I’m battling a stomach bug right now. My doctor phoned a prescription in, and hopefully it eases my symptoms.
I hope you feel better soon!
Hope it passes quickly! Feel Better!
Feel better soon!
Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks for the good wishes. I am feeling a little bit better as the day goes on.
Oh no! I hope you’re continuing to improve!
I’m wearing Obsession today. There’s something about it that goes almost a little masculine, and I kinda like it.
I painted my living room a somewhat similar color to the paint blob at the top. A bit more muted, but in the general family. (Glidden Maplewood Trail)
I love Obsession!
Nice color choice. The right orange can make a room warm & cozy. Love Obsession, too. I wore the vintage EDP recently and it is good stuff.
You smell great. I wore Obsession earlier this week. It definitely smells more unisex than ‘feminine’ to me.
You smell great! I love Obsession. It was my signature scent in college and my roommate’s was Poison- we were quite the pair! Lol.
HA! I wore both in the 80s, too (and Fendi.) I like wearing them more now than I did then. They were fragrances for women, not girls 😉
Absolutely!
Friday here already! Monday was a holiday (Labour Day in our part of the world), so a pleasantly short week. Orris Noir for me today, it has a warm rich feeling that will help me sail through a possibly difficult day at work.
Hope your Friday wasn’t too bad! Orris Noir is lovely.
Yesterday I had the chance to try Eris Perfumes’ Ma Bete (I can’t do the little carat thingy over the e, but you know what I mean). I have a high tolerance for animalics but I met my match with it. To me it smelled of dirty parrot cage, sour milk, and unwashed feet. I went back and read Angela’s review and saw that Barbara Herman is an admirer of Secretions Magnifiques. Ma Bete has that same acrid, fecal feel. It wasn’t an immediate scrubber, but I did try to keep my wrist away from my nose.
Today I’m wearing Rose Flash because Andy Tauer included a rollerball of it with my last order. I’m very particular about rose but this is nice, and I think it might be nicer if I sprayed a little No. 5 over it.
When I saw that she had teamed up with that perfumer I have to admit I lost interest.
It’s so funny that we all have different skank boundaries, isn’t it? SM smells like a sex crime to me (that bloody knife!) and there are quite a few things that seem quite literally postcoital to my nose (Patou Joy!), besides some musks that I just CANNOT manage (Smell Bent Commando = nasty locker room). I can’t do Dzing!, either (sawdust, stale candy peanuts, tiger pee). Aromatics Elixir is distinctly urinous, IMO. I just don’t know what’s going to hit the “Beyond here there be dragons” line until I try.
Ma Bete, interestingly, did not seem particularly offensive to me. It smells a bit like fur, but that was kind of it in terms of animalics. No, um, crotch or anything. Belle de Jour, I thought, was closer to Secretions Magnifiques, but it might be the salty thing coming into play. I didn’t like that one at all.
I’d love to do a study on what perfumes smell offensive to various people and prepare a kind of map, or a Venn diagram, or something, just so I could understand the subject better.
I’ll tell you what I cannot stand – CUMIN. It just reads offensive body odor to me.
second that!
triple that!
Yes! Cumin is the worst.
Tiger pee! Sounds like Dzing! doesn’t capture the circus for you so much as what’s left after the circus departs… 😀
Am wafting in the soft clouds of pillowy lemon fluff of Profumum Meringa. Will be wearing L’Air du Desert M. this evening to see the musical Man of La Mancha.
Wanted to share a tip: when trying unsuccessfully to scrub some perfume off yesterday with Tide, it occurred to me that the cleansing oil I use on my face might be more a more effective way to expel it. It worked! I rubbed the oil in, let it sit for a few minutes, rinsed it off, then followed with soap & water.
Oooh, enjoy the musical!
First, I want to know what perfume you were trying to scrub off!
The oil-based maku-up remover is a great idea but I don’t use one be ause my face ends up feeling like an oil slick. Someone here commented about using Tecnu which is what one would use to remove poison ivy oil. I bought one through Amazon and I found that it gets off most of the perfume on one go and I’m sure, had I been more diligent, 2 more washings without much scrubbing would remove all traces. I belatedly discovered that Costco sells Tecnu behind the pharmacy counter.
Oh, that’s good to know. I always have a tube of Tecnu around.
Late to the party today. I was intending to wear Jubilation XXV, and technically I am; there was about 3 molecules of it left in my sample. So I fortified with Portrait if a Lady. And then fortified with more this afternoon.
I have a few drops left and am stupidly hoarding them…I should wear it now before it evaporates.
Finished another sample today- Estee lauder Amber Ylang Ylang EDP, I will sure miss this beauty.
Half-bath painting project nearing completion!!! Second coat and touch-ups all done, toilet paper holder replaced with a new oil-rubbed bronze finish one instead of the builder-grade cheapie chrome original. New towel rods up tomorrow. At the moment, I have put one outlet cover back up unpainted (white), one light switch cover painted the same deep blue as the walls, and one spray-painted to mimic the oil-rubbed bronze. When The CEO gets home, I’ll get him to weigh in on his preference.
Whew.
SOTD is L’Arte di Gucci, in an attempt to cover up paint smells.
High five mals! Was this DIY? A couple of weeks ago, I unexpectedly had to have the shower re-tiled: no leaks or mold, thank goodness, just a failure of the old adhesive/grout/whatever held the tiles up. This house is midcentury modern, so new shower fixtures are polished chrome. Change can be good!
Well done on the project!
Admiring your attention to detail.
Such a nice feeling to finish a room! Congrats, I bet it is going to look great.
SOTD = Indult Tihota
Delicious vanilla and musk. Tihota is one of my favorite vanillas; it is so potent, voluptuous and sweet!
Last night, to my horror, I discovered that my decant of Vanille 44 leaked in its baggie. I don’t recall how much I had left in the decant because my wearings have all come from my Barneys bottle. Anyway, I was able to salvage 11.5 mLs (have I ever mentioned I’m geeky?). Needless to say, I just ordered a decant from a basenotes splitter to replace my backup decant and to make some available for splits. A 10 mL decant is already spoken for. I will make an additional 15 mLs available for split – just send me an email.
I bet the baggy smells really nice 🙂
You bet right, but still …. no use crying iver soilt perfume!
Was the 11.5ml you saved loose in the bag? In any event, congrats on salvaging some!
Most was still in the bottle. The 1.5 was loose in the bag. It was like watching a river of gold swirl down a vortex.
I hate it when that happens. Had an irreplaceable decant leak out 10mls (out of 30) in a move. Of course all the cheap stuff survived intact.
So late today! I hope everyone has had a good day so far.
SOTD is EL Knowing. Sooo good. And I scored a sample of N°5 L’Eau today, so I’m looking forward to testing it out tomorrow.
No sweet treat?
Oh, wait, I actually forgot what day it was! I do have a sweet treat lined up for tomorrow. So maybe I’ll have to spritz a bit of the Chanel later tonight. ????
Package from Black Phoenix arrived today. One sample, “O”, has been irritating me all day. I shouldn’t lead with such a negative remark, but want to save my thoughts on Nasty Woman for tomorrow. ????
Oh good, was wondering how NW turned out.
