[PSA: the swapmeet is still open, and so is our latest giveaway.]
Today, our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the perfume you’re wearing today, the last perfume you tried and loved but probably won't buy, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

I am in Le Labo City city exclusive for Russia- wears close to the skin but its lovely.
Caught up on Indian Summers, sad they canceled the series
THÉ DU HAMMAM green tea is hitting the spot by Palais des Thes On this rainy day. Because of their friends and family discount I really splurged !
I just started watching the second season of Indian Summers; there are some wonderful actors in it. And all that lush scenery. Add me to the sorry-they-canceled-it list.
The scenery is lovely!
LOVE Indian Summers. In my head I re-titled it “Beautiful Bad People Wear Beautiful Clothes and Do Bad Things in Beautiful Places.” I have skimmed through several episodes with the sound off to better appreciate the visuals.
Cancelled??? I hadn’t heard. It’s such a great series. The first season was one of my favorite Masterpieces ever. Hard to watch, but so well done.
Yes, I haven’t finished season 2 but heard there was no third season
smell bent cocoa rose.Man,I love this brand!!It’s been a week or two of wearing a couple from Brent, and I fall madly in love each time.Cocoa rose is a bit heavy for today’s early summer weather, but the menthol-patchouli note keeps it from becoming “too much”.
South African perfumistas PSA:Amouage is now at Stuttafords.
I enjoy the entire line – so much fun
Enjoying a preshower dab of vintage Diorella with my coffee. I think that’s what I’ll be putting on post shower too!
I saw the new L’Artisan bottles in person and I’m not really a fan. The color is too dark. The charm is gone! Time to stock up on old-bottle favorites while they’re still inexpensive.
I do like the new bottles but I’ve got so used to the flood of old ones being £29.99 at TKMaxx that I’d find it hard to pay full price for one. Maybe if they reintroduced the long-discontinued ones that people say were wonderful – Patchouli, Vanilia, L’Eau de Navigateur etc.
I wish you could pass those cheap bottles this way! They bottom out at $60 at discounters sites here, which is good but limiting enough not to get the 5 I want.
This morning I sprayed Aedes Cierge de Lune lavishly and with abandon & it felt great.
It’s one of those perfumes that I can’t get enough of.
I love this one too. The Aedes line is one of my favorites.
And the bottles! Gorgeous 🙂
Oh, glorious day here in the swamp! It’s in the 70’s, breezy, and low humidity. In other words, PERFECT! Had a steaming bowl of chicken noodle soup for breakfast and now contemplating what fragrance to wear…I’m thinking Tauer’s PHI will hit the spot, or maybe Kalamat? I could drown myself in Chergui. Decisions, decisions…
T-Rex is on fire today! I trimmed back a Brazilian Pepper tree that was encroaching into my backyard, piled all the limbs nicely for transporting, went inside, and came back out just now to see that T-Rex has “rearranged” the entire pile. Brazialin pepper trees are considered an invasive pest tree, but the sap smells wonderfully camphorous, and now, so does my dog. The birds love the the red berries, which apparently make them slightly drunk or high…so interesting!
What a lovely day! I’m imagining T rex is acting like a cat from catnip, do let us know what particular antics he is up to!
Exactly like a cat with catnip!
Now I’m imagining the birds… do they fly drunk??
Yes, and often crash into houses, fences, sheds, etc. Some are able to shake it off and fly right, but a few are injured to the point they can’t escape the neighborhood cats.
Blergh. Sprinkling a bit of Nikki de Saint Phalle on my arm, I noticed the color was very dark. Lo and behold, my mini was empty. And, oops. The scent is no longer NSP, but swamp monster. Hello Saturday!
????
Mmm, time to get some more! Every so often I find a spray at one of those discount perfume stores, and i6 feel pretty confident that no one is counterfeiting those!
I’m going to have to dig mine out tomorrow!
Nooo! NSP is one of my favorites. You make me want to go check my decant. I probably should hunt down a FB, before they disappear completely. Our fleeting scents…may that have been your frog to swallow (a la Mark Twain), and may the rest of your Saturday be fantastic.
I love that a advice about eating a live frog. Another (no idea who came up with this one) pearl of wisdom for control freaks is to carry a bomb on every plane, because the chances of there being two bombs on a plane is one hundredth of there being one…
And yet I continue to wonder why I am not mistress of my universe 😉
Wow….a blast from my past! Wore Nikki in the mid to late 80s….do they still make it? has it been reformulated?
Lyric today. I still have some late roses blooming, and the bouquet I brought in last week smelled wonderful. I’m trying to make that feeling last. 🙂
Latest fragrance I wanted to buy was Ambrosine, by Francesca dell Oro. But, I am avoiding purchases this year in light of the big party I’m throwing this summer (aka the wedding).
I have been meaning to whine here for several weeks now, to sympathetic ears, but haven’t gotten around to it: big down side to the legalization of pot in Oregon–I can be walking or driving about in the neighborhood and suddenly there’s a whiff of the most terrible BO! It’s so pervasive, I wonder if my deodorant has stopped working and I forgot to shower! Then, it slowly dissapates and I’m reminded that it’s probably formerly-controlled substances. The stuff REALLY stinks!
Oh no ????
It really is not a wonderful smell, though I find it dissipates rather quickly.
(Should note that I’ve never smoked nuthin!)
Dear Marjorie Rose, may a time machine never transport you to the Oregon of my 1960s childhood. We lived near college campuses (Dad was taught history) and, legal or not, it was everywhere (and is probably why I loathe the smell). 😉
Yeah, they call it skunk for a reason.
It’s not legal here in Montreal but you can still smell it regularly walking around – I get the idea it’s tolerated by the police.
Hi Marjorie! Glad to hear the wedding is scheduled, and wish you well with the spending freeze.
I also remember driving behind a smoking car one night, smelling skunk, and realizing that they weren’t having engine trouble. On the other hand it’s nice it’s so stinky, since it makes it easier to avoid (when it’s not pervasive).
Helloo-oo! How’s the new digs?
How lovely! Wedding planning is stressful but also fun.
We are bucking gender stereotypes a bit–2/3 of the wedding stuff is far more important to my fiance than it is to me. So the stress, for the most part, for me is found in trying to help him have the meaningful wedding he wants when he is less than clear about details along the way! An example, it has taken months (months!) for him to define what he wants in attendant clothing beyond “I just want us all to look good together.” :-/ But, thankfully, THAT decision was made this week. 🙂
I read a news crawl today, unsure what network, that said pot growers in Colorado are breeding plants with continually higher THC levels, while the state now realizes it has not legislated any limit. Should be interesting.
In deference to Robin’s comment policy, I won’t add my two cents, except to say I’ve found the “legalize now, regulate later” approach concerning.
Yeah, thanks. This is not even a subject I anticipated being problematic, but it probably is!
Inspired by yesterday’s discussion on Chinatown, I’m in Beaufort London “Coeur de Noir”.
Top: rum, ginger and ink;
Mid: paper, leather and vanilla;
Base: cedar, tobacco and birch tar.
This one is Ink, ginger and smoke on me today, and cheering up a day of coughing and sputtering as the cold virus slowly continues its grand tour (done the thoat, done the head, let’s spend some time in the chest.
Hopefully it makes its exit soon. I’ve been sick for almost 2 weeks now and every time I think I’m getting better I wake up the next day feeling even worse. I’m sure you’ll have a turnaround soon, though 🙂
Ugh — I’m so sorry you’ve been sick for so long! Hope you’re getting plenty of rest and tea this weekend.
Thanks, and I am!
Wearing Vol de Nuit Evasion sent to me by a kind perfumista. Nice, very nice, but no profound love.
Actually did a little sniffing today. 2 Lutens Baptême du Feu and L’Orpheline, and I unfortunately tried Myths Woman. Love it, really love it. A narcissus on steroids. The bottle is very trashy, as is the box, but it somehow adds to the charm.
Two of my favorite recent Lutens! What did you think of those?
Sadly, no Amouage counters near me and I’m loathe to try a line I can’t afford. That said, I loooove narcissus.
Sorry to say that I didn’t like either of them. I’m not Lutens biggest fan, although I do love a few of his earlier creations but have sort of lost the will to try them.
I think La Fille de Berlin is the last one of his that I tried and liked.
Absolutely fair. They are both slightly strange. Perhaps that’s tree reason I adore them!
LFdB is lovely too though it takes a man braver than I to wear it full blast.
If you like narcissus, have you tried Ostara?
Love!!!
Myths W is well-done! It wasn’t love for me (I find it drier than I like, and it spends a *lot* of time in the woody phase on me, as opposed to the floral one), but it is really good. My big narcissus love is Le Temps d’une Fete, but Ostara is lovely, and Dame Perfumery does a really nice dirty Narcissus soliflore as well (bonus, it’s really inexpensive).
I second the recommendation of Dame…it is a real narcissus and you either love it or hate it….the few times I wore it to work I got comments on both ends! But I love it….and you can get a travel size for under ten dollars…free shipping to boot! You can also layer it with other fragrances to boost the narcissus note…..just sayin’ 🙂 !!!
Had I known that my workplace would be closed today because of flooding I might have tried to get down to NY for Sniffapalooza. Sampling the overly sweet Hundred Silent Ways from Nishane, and am thinking of going to the all chocolate buffet at a local hotel since I’m usually not off to enjoy it.
Washed that off and am now in the much more suitable Rosa Sur Reuse from Soivohle
Oooh, do tell more about the chocolate buffet! I’m at Sniffa with Daisy, ElisaP and ihadanidea. It would be noce to see you!
Cafe Fleuri at the Langham hotel in Boston does a hundred dessert all chocolate buffet on Saturdays usually Sept-May. I can only do it every few years
OMG…I would be in heaven!
Good to know. I’ve only visited Boston in the summer as a tourist and the 2 business trips were in and out on the same day.
Ok, I live just across the river and didn’t know this?! Impossible!
All chocolate buffet. Wow! That would be my breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I’m with you!
I am jealous 🙂
and did you get to try any of the other Berdoues? I have to confess that I was giddy this morning when I read that you gave me my first enabler pin 🙂
Hee 🙂
I answered you below.
Missing you folk so was thinking of coming down in a couple of weeks.
We miss you!
So jealous that you are at Sniffa!! Hope you are enjoying the day. Please report back from the land of happy smells!
I think you need to find a way to that buffet. Sounds heavenly!
All chocolate ga-ga-ness aside……..flooding? Hope things are ok in your part of the world.
It’s rainy and cold, so I am staying in just relaxing, reading and maybe baking later.
Yesterday I came across a big haul of vintage perfumes, I am in heaven smelling and organizing everything, I think this was a collector, she had several bottles of vintage YSL Paris, Chanel No.5 cologne, Mitsouko from 1980’s, Shalimar cologne and several Guerlain samples and a lot of minis.
I am wearing Flowerbomb, an old bottle that I want to finish to make room for my new beauties.
What an amazing find! Yea!!! Enjoy your lovelies, and do tell how you came across them. Estate sale? Thrift store find? Congratulations!
It is a strange story. There is this guy who saves things from garbage and found all of these thrown out , sold them to me. I never find these much at estate sales either, sometimes I ask and I feel so bad when they tell me they threw them out, actually he has listed some of them at ebay. If you want contact me and I can give you his info. I am not affiliated.
herasuk@hotmail.com
How sad that they end up in the trash. I’m glad they found their way to you.
How lucky! I never run up against anything like that at estate sales or thrift stores. Enjoy! Maybe you can even use some of them in the swapmeet……..?
Well done!
Congrats on the haul! I am inside making cookies and muffins too in this bad weather.
Spent a little too much money with TPC flash sale and I really can’t be spending money on Perfume. Donatella will forgive me but my bank account probably won’t. I haven’t taken a shower yet and I am wearing vintage Bal edt. I have dinner plans for tonight and I am figuring out what perfume I should wear. My choices are Nahema, Ingrid, or Lyric.
Lyric is my vote
I vote Lyric, too. I’m not familiar with Ingrid, and Nahema is more of a daytime scent to me.
First date tonight. Thinking about what scent to wear. I’m leaning toward Tauerville Vanilla Flash. It’s garnered lots of spontaneous compliments. I’m not much into gourmand or sweet fragrances, but asking the average man to love my more out there things is a lot to ask.
There’s a rebel in me that says start as I mean to continue, and wear Bvlgari Black ;D Beside Secretions Magnifique, which is unbearable on my skin, what would be the most out there thing to wear? Enjoy your Saturday.
Good luck/have fun! Mmm, you could wear Bat. Anyone who still likes you through that would be a real keeper. Or anosmic.
????I have a sample of Bat. Don’t tempt me! That would be hysterical. It would be a real litmus test.
vintage can be pretty out there for first dates–super sharp, dry chypres or animalics…
but it could also be a plus, smelling like no one else your date has encountered.
Bal a Versailles would be hilarious. It even makes my cat yowl. Maybe that would be good? (Heh.)
Yes. Especially if you want your date to yowl.
Maybe on date 2, with love nibbles?????
BeauFort London “1805 Tonnerre”, meant to evoke the smells of the battle of Trafalgar.
Top: lime, smoke and gunpowder;
Mid: blood, brandy and sea water;
Base: amber, balsam fir and cedar
Not everyone is crazy about the blood smell. Not even me. :^[
From the same house, “Vi et Armis”
Top: black pepper, tea leaf and cardamom;
Mid: whiskey, incense and opium;
Base: tobacco, birch and oud.
I thought it unwearable at first but love it now; unfortunately it makes my partner gag (literally) so an FB is some way off.
Hope you feel better! I hate colds that linger . I’m hoping what’s going around the office skips me and no flu either (got my shot last week and woot, no reaction).
I feel like I’m going into battle, so 1805 Tonnerre would be congruent with my inner struggle ????
Le Labo Patchouli 24
Done lightly, and applied hours in advance, I could see it. I love birch tar. I just don’t think it’s super sexy????
I like to call Patchouli 24 “sexy bonfire.”
If HE shows wearing Patch 24, he will be a winner in my book…
Vanilla Flash is a great choice.
You are the angel on my shoulder. Thank you!
This sounds like it should be a weekly challenge! Something to wear when you don’t want a second date.
I also put Dzing! out there for consideration.
Good luck with your date!
Dzing! after its initial bast of wild, settles down to vanilla and old library books on me. It would be a not too scary choice. Cuir Mauresque or Leather Oud might be a (crack!) bit more off putting.
I am compromising. I’m going with Carnal Flower, applied very lightly, hours before the meet. I am not trying to ditch the man. He may be wonderful! CF is feminine, and I tend to come across less girly than I’d like. It’s also a good test–if he hates it, that tells me something.
Thanks for the pre-date giggles, NST. Be well.
How did it go?? I hope you’ll report on Monday’s SOTD post!
OMG, I passed by Yves Rocher and was intrigued by the new limited edition Clémentine et Epices hand cream, and it is AMAZING. (It’s not the most moisturizing, but it smells SO GOOD.) Now I wish I had also gotten the shower gel.
So I smell like that right now, now that it has totally overridden the Diorissimo that I had on before.
Happy weekend!
Is it one of the limited edition holiday scents?
It does seem to be! http://www.yves-rocher.fr/vpci/lot-clementines-e-epices-et-sa-boule-de-noel/p/yr.fr.VS292 I highly advocate it.
Oh good! I have a $30 credit to spend!
Oh oh. I’m a sucker for clementine…
The great thing about YR is that it’s all so cheap that it’s free in perfumista world! I feel like it’s ok to blind buy this one 🙂 I don’t know if they are going to make a perfume out of this, but I’m happy with it as body products.
I’m looking at the candles too…
It was really fun to visit the actual store in Paris last year. It’s a great brand, and of course you can’t beat the prices.
Very good to know, might have to plot another YR order!
SOTD is Marni, which I have been wearing the heck out of since I bought a vat of it a few months back. Now I really need to sample some of the flankers. Has anyone tried any of them?
I’ve tried all 3. Both flankers are quite true to the original, with just a little adjusting. Spice is spicier, Rose is greener (but not rosier.) I particularly like Spice but I had a hard time finding any, and ended up with a bottle of Rose since it’s ubiquitous and really inexpensive. I wore it a ton this summer.
I’m a fan of spicy scents in general, so perhaps I’ll pursue Marni Spice. Thanks for the reviews!
Your post inspired me to see if I could find a bottle for a reasonable price. I did find one, and just bought it. (!) If you email me your mailing address I can send samples of both flankers once my bottle arrives. (click on my username to reach me)
You are so kind! Thank you.
Nothing yet, since I’m in-person swapmeeting today, and will probably want to immediately test my new decants.
CDG Hinoki is the first decant I’m trying out. Thanks, Nadia!
Yum! Do you like it?
I did like it. It is the perfect scent to get in a decant swap as it is delightful but fleeting.
Finished the last of Demeter Tomato which I sprayed lavishly to keep the longevity going…I really like this one as it hits my tomato leaf spot..thanks to hajusuuri for introducing me to it 🙂 !!!
Still plenty more where it came from 😉
To answer your question about whether or not I smelled anything else in the line, the answer is no as I need to save some for smelling the next time I visit.
gotcha…well if you do get around to sniffing them and want samples/decants let me know…right now Oud al Sahraa (more powdery, balsamic than oud to my nose) is open but Arz el Rab (ginger, iris, cedar) and Vanira Morrea (neroli and vanilla) will be open and available for decant once family members receive them for Christmas presents so some time late December…..just let me know 🙂
Ys-Uzac Metaboles is my favourite tomato scent. Has a nice greenhouse tomato leaf aspect and geranium, too.
Oh thank you for the suggestion!
Rainy and cool. One of those days where the husband’s mood will depend on who wins the football game he’s watching right now. Taking advantage of his couch time by coloring my hair. Will decide fragrance after that, but I’m thinking that the Coromandel decant I just got in the splitmeet is calling my name! If not today, definitely tomorrow.
Has anyone tried the new edp versions of the exclusifs?
Quick note…added a last-minute swap offer over at that string.
Changed my mind after color done and showered. I had never tried the Adam Levine I blind bought last year at TJ Maxx. Seemed like as good a day as any. It’s going quite nicely with the scented candle we have going, which is black pepper and tobacco. One thing I love about colder weather is pulling out the candles.
I received Beige and Coromandel edp carded samples in the mail a couple of days ago. I tried Beige yesterday but haven’t tried Coromandel yet. In the first minutes I thought I liked the new formulation of Beige better, but after that they seemed indistinguishable.
The Bois des Iles EDP seems more intense and extra aldehylic – egads… I need to take a pause!
Intense and extra in a good way or not?
I’m sampling Pretty Machine. It’s the wrong season for it, but it sure is …pretty.
Has anyone tried 7% solution by En Voyage? I am debating if it is sample worthy
there is a great review of it on the Scented Hound…and a giveaway 🙂
Yesterday on the train, I had someone encroaching on my space and I mentioned that I have a Puffy Coat story. It’s cold and rainy in NYC today and I wore my Uniqlo Down Puffy Coat (but it’s the slim version) and think it’s timely to share the story —
A few winters back on a train commute into NYC, I sat next to the window on a 3-seater and a skinny woman half my size sat on the aisle seat. As the train filled up, only middle seats were available. At one of the stops, a Rubenesque+ woman wearing a puffy coat asked to sit in the middle and the skinny one got up. The woman then proceeded to plop down on the middle seat, leaving about 5 inches for the skinny one who tried without success to fit herself in her original seat but to no avail and she gave up. The one in the middle seat then turns to me and conspirationally whispers “It’s the puffy coat!”
Hysterical!!!!
When I commuted via train, I would have to sit next to Mr. I-eat-curry-every-day-and-my-perspiration-smells-like-it.
Nothing against him or his diet – Septa never allocated enough cars and the one next to him would be the only available seat.
Thank God I started driving before the proliferation of cell phones. I know I would NOT be able to hold my tongue. LOL
Until the rash of train accidents where people in the first car died or got hirt, I ised to sit in the first car on the way in given that the first car was the quiet car but now I have decided that life safety takes precedence.
I do the same now as well. Love, love the quiet car but…
This is funny!! I was in a meeting the other day with 2 more people. It was right after lunch and a very small room. I could smell half digested lunch on the guys breath – I honestly thought I would throw up.
Eeek, that was disgusting!
Um, yeah… blame it on the coat honey. LOL!
Great story. 🙂
???? Thanks for sharing–I was eagerly awaiting the Puffy Coat Story!
Great story!
Wearing Incense Rose today. I don’t wear this enough, considering how much I love it, but I think it’s a little too much to wear to work, and that leaves me only 2 days a week.
I used to feel the same way about 80% of my collection. Decided to wear whatever I want to work 🙂
I’ve never thought of it as heavy or intrusive. I’d be surprised if someone complained, unless you were really doused in it, or they were extremely sensitive.
I wore absolutely anything to work. No one ever complained. Just adjust the dose accordingly and off you go!
Giving Galop a more thorough test drive today. I like the opening quite a bit. We’ll see how it wears.
Nope nothing special. Took a shower and wearing Tobacco Rose as usual.
I just tried it yesterday and they gave me a sample. When I tried it in the store it smelled fresh rosy in the opening. Tried it again last night and kept getting whiffs of cat pee for the first half hour. I do think the drydown is pleasant, though. Tobacco Rose is lovely.
Yes the dry down was what made me try it again, as I put it on one evening and loved the way it smelled the next morning. But it doesn’t add up to good enough to get for me.
I’ve just got a gift set of Puredistance samples!
Did it include Sheiduma? I realy like the aesthetics of the brand. I have travel sprays of White and Opardu, a 60 mL of Opardu and a large decant of M. I may get a travel spray of Antonia just because of the fabulous green atomizer.
No there’s no Sheiduna.
And?
I’m wearing Mazzolari Vetiver this morning–AnnE introduced me to it. As I have mentioned before, it’s the only vetiver that doesn’t smell like poisoned roots to me. This week Fumerie is having a Profumum Roma event so I expect my wallet to take a hit. Their Acqua Viva is the best lemon ever and their ambers are swoon-worthy. I think they will be presenting the whole line, and there are lots I haven’t smelled yet.
Acqua Viva was one of my purchases at Fumerie! Surprisingly for a Profumum Roma, it does not last long on me 🙁
I know, it doesn’t last long on me, either, but better than other lemons. I don’t think the citrus molecules hang around long (a chemist might know why) and that’s why they’re mostly used in top notes.
Yesterday I divided and replanted my irises while wearing Infusion d’Iris, and it was such a lovely experience that I’ve decided to keep the iris theme going. Today I’m in Hiris, and can affirm that I find it absolutely beautiful, certain high-profile reviews notwithstanding. 😉
I’ve been meaning to try Hiris for awhile – how does it compare to Infusion d’Iris?
Infusion d’Iris is considerably more floral; Hiris smells like iris and damp greenery and purling mists, and it smells “clean” to me in the way that all iris perfumes, no matter how rooty and weird, smell clean — like a soft breeze across a calm sea.
Hiris is beautiful and you smell great!
One of my favorites…
I’m sampling Alahine for the first time today. It’s very beautiful, but it’s also reminding me of the way that someone’s house from my youth smelled, and it will drive me crazy until I figure out whose house it was and why it smelled so fancy.
I’m so excited that it’s finally cooled down enough to make soup! A big pot of lentil veggie soup, crusty bread, cheeses and wine is on our menu tonight. I don’t know why this bringing me so much joy, but I’m elated.
Sounds delicious! I know that niggling feeling when a scent is familiar and will drive you crazy until you figure out the source. Hope it comes to you soon!
I’ve made soup three times this fall but not lentil. Yum.. Sounds delicious!
Your dinner sounds absolutely delicious…I would be elated as well sitting at your table!
Sounds wonderful.
Have a cold, have some outside chores to do, wearing Coromandel from the splitmeet to get me through.
Can you smell it through your cold? I put it on the other day and was afraid it was too much, but my mother couldn’t stop complimenting me. Get better soon!
Yes, thankfully the cold isnt too bad. I also may have over-applied to compensate 🙂
I am saving some really special stuff I just got for after the cold, though, so I can give them my full attention.
Happy weekend everyone! It’s a long weekend here, Labour Day is on Monday, it’s amazing how the prospect of a day off makes me quite blissful 🙂
No perfume yet, but I can still detect a trace of last night’s Une Rose.
Mmm Une Rose is fabulous…now I want to go home and spray it.
Today I’m trying Demeter Saffron (kindly gifted to me through he swapmeet). I’m getting curry, with a faint undercurrent of honey and leather. It’s interesting. I can’t see myself wearing it alone, but I imagine it would work well as a layering element (e.g., with a rose scent), so I will have to experiment…
You juat killed my desire to even sample it with mention of curry.
Ditto this????
Me too!!!!!
No, guys! It’s really not bad! I haven’t smelled a lot of saffron, but I think the scent is pretty true. I just wouldn’t wear it alone as a perfume.
I just git to try it, too, thanks to a generous swapper who added a sample. I had pretty much that exact impression and thought it might layer well with a rose or something woody.
Yes! I layered it with some Stella McCartney afterward, and it was quite nice. It accentuated the amber and spiced it up a bit.
I am not at home in Houston but up in Michigan visiting my mom and the smells of fresh clean air and burning leaves are fabulous. She bought home-made yeast cinnamon rolls with a maple icing from a friend, and they are to die for! I have lately been wearing YSL Paris, the original, which I had somehow missed out on before, and really loving it. It’s so femme and gentle.
I do have a question: Does anyone have or like any of the Zoology scents? I am thinking of buying a sample set. Recommendations? They sound peculiar and intriguing.
I sampled bat by spilling a 1 ml vial on myself – and it was an experience. It was almost too strong (but I did spill it), but the development was complex, the notes were interesting and well blended, and the name was actually applied to the fragrance. I vote you try them.
Forgot to say, they are PUMPKIN cinnamon rolls with maple icing. MMM!
You’re killing me! In the best way possible ????
Send some my way :)…the comments are really making me hungry!
Wow! Those cinnamon rolls sound amazing. I wish that I had better experience with yeast. Can’t seem to make it work the right way.
I get better results if I stay at the low end of the water temp recommendations. I actually test the water temp with a thermometer.
Those cinn rolls sound fabulous. I miss flavors typical of the northeast.
I agree, I’m going to order that sample set. I have a sample of Bat, and I really like it, even though I was totally prepared to hate it. SS’s review above is right on the money: “well-blended, interesting complex in development”. There was a review the other day of a couple of the new scents on Perfume Posse, but I can’t remember if they are available yet. And virtually free via Perfume Math.
I didn’t smell Paris until I got into perfume 7-8 years ago, either. It’s lovely.
My goodness – it’s been awhile. Figured I’d check in since it’s my birthday and I have a bit of a breather from schoolwork (no homework right after midterms).
This weekend has gorgeous weather! Last night’s birthday party was perfect – outdoors with a small camp fire and a piñata, surrounded by other female grad students (half of whom are engineering majors!), with a bottle of dessert wine and s’mores. Oh, and the homemade Tiramisu cake had trick candles that took me 10 minutes to blow out. 🙂
Looking forward to today’s Halloween party with the same group. Mmm…homemade pumpkin pie and I’ll be making brownies! Just hope I’ll have enough time to assemble a costume.
Since it’s my birthday of course I’m wearing my favorite – vintage Shalimar EdC (thanks Foxbins!)
My birthday wish is for all of you to have a fun weekend!
Happy Birthday!
Have a happy day! I’ll spritz something fun in your honor. 🙂
Happy Birthday! Could you email me with your new mailing address?
Happy birthday! Sounds like a great weekend.
Happy birthday! I’m doing my level best to give you just what you wanted ????
Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day!
Happy birthday! Your party sounds like it was a blast!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Are you coming to PDX any time during the holidays? We could get together! And I am so glad you are using the cologne. Better you than me!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday! Just keep on celebrating through the weekend!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Your parties sound really fun. And it’s nice to see you ????
Happy (Belated) Birthday! I hope your weekend has continued to be excellent.
Happy Birthday! Tiramisu cake sounds winderful. And great to hear about girls in Engineering, I wish I was one!
Happy birthday, and do save me a slice of cake!
Extreme laziness this Saturday morning. It is noon and I’ve finally managed to shower. Just shaving my legs took force of will. I’m not sure what it will take to motivate the cleaning and shopping that must be done today.
Wearing Vanille d’Iris now and the cool Iris may help to strengthen my will.
Me too, I just feel like the past week has wrung me out and hung me out to dry. My vote is “Naps for Everyone!”
I was very obedient to this command.
I’d vote for a candidate who made this a campaign slogan and policy promise! ????
Dark, cold and rainy here today, it was perfect for Mugler Oriental Express.
Is that one still available?
Yes, it is part of their current lineup.
You smell divine! I am still huffing the sweater that has the last drops of it 🙂 !!!
This is such a great, cozy scent.
This morning I was lollygagging around the house, tidying and shifting things, when I noticed my little decant of Cologne du 68 was looking neglected. I tell myself it’s not pushing enough of the right buttons to buy a bottle, but then I go back to it and it makes me smile. Maybe when the decant is empty I’ll make a decision.
In honor of SublimiSomnium’s birthday I’ve added Vanille Galante to my fragrant mix for the day. It smells delicious, but not like food, a delicate balance that I love.
Now it’s time for more lollygagging, futzing about, and muzzy-headed bone-idleness. Enjoy your weekend, NST!
No. 68 is discontinued but you can get it for a good price at Fragrancenet.
Oh my, that’s tempting. (I see it is available at fragrancex.com as well, but that’s a company I have not tried.) Hopefully Cologne du 68 doesn’t disappear altogether while I make up my mind.
I have ordered from fragrancex and have never had an issue….
I don’t want to get into trouble here, but have you seen the video ad for a perfume (allegedly) called “Nasty Woman” (a response to the Trump comment in the last US Presidential debate) that is showing up now on Facebook? It’s quite clever! I can’t figure out a way to provide a link to it, alas. Maybe someone else can.
Robyn posted it under new releases, but with no comments allowed.
What I can’t figure out is how they released it within days of the comment. Did they have a fragrance lined up and ready to release just waiting for something along those lines to be said? Even if that were the case (and presumably it had to be?) they sure got it printed and packaged quickly.
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. They use standard small screw top amber bottles. Still, quick work.
SOTD = Lune Feline and I am sooooo in love!! If I could take a bath in this stuff I probably would, neighbors and small animals caught downwind be damned. It’s gorgeous! The price isn’t so gorgeous, however, and I am already dreading when my decant is empty, which probably won’t be too far away.
Fellow perfumista/os, I have kind of been living under a rock lately with some everyday life issues hugely distracting my perfume life, but can someone tell me how the hell I managed to miss notification Lea St. Barth’s Lea was not only being discontinued, but there doesn’t appear to be a single backup bottle to be found anywhere? I still have a mostly full bottle and one of the Extreme version, but I adore this stuff and can’t imagine my perfume wardrobe without it.
What happened? Are they hopefully reformulating and then re-releasing it? Is there anywhere I can still find some? *desperate, stunned and horrified at never having it again* It’s a cult classic and the discontinuation is like… Like my having to live without Angel or Chinatown! I feel faint at the very idea…
Thanks.
I share in your horror. I have none left and can’t source it. I think it’s completely over, according to the man I spoke with at Luckyscent.
I third your horror! I went through my Luckyscent sample like water and by the time I got back around to their site to look into ordering some it had been discontinued:( I have seen an occasional bottle go for sale on eBay, but sellers are capitalizing on the fact that it’s been discontinued.
I was hoping to see some in the splitmeet.
Running slow today, but smell great in SL Ambre Sultan. Very glam shopping excursion–spark plugs, air conditioner cover, LED light bulbs, and an air filter…..oh, and AA batteries. Sexy!!!
LOL. And shopping for practical items is never very fun, is it?
Ha ha, since I am someone who thinks Ambre Sultan smells like turpentine, I think you’re quite appropriately scented for visits to the garage!! Just never have been able to convert to this one.
Hi everyone. Hope you are all well. It’s been a while and I feel very behind on everything. I’ve pretty much gone back to lurking but today I thought I’d stick my nose out of the shadows to say hi. My scent this morning was Chergui but it’s long gone now.
Hi, Poodle! So nice to see you here! Hope all is well with you, too.
Poodle! Good to see you. 🙂
Poodle, we miss you!
Missed that face! Good to see you again.
Take care, Poodle!
Thanks for saying Hi, Poodle! I always wonder what’s happened to people when I realize I’ve stopped seeing their avatars, and I’ve always loved your bespectacled poodle, as well as your comments. All the best!
Hi Poodle! Good to see you.
SOTD Etro Shaal -nir – just because that’s the first thing I saw when running out of the house for soccer practice
Wow, pretty glam for soccer. 🙂
I am a spectator – my son has a game 🙂
Morning, all. I’m still in bed, which is both lazy and silly, considering I need to iron, pack, clean, transfer $$$ to the cats’ caregiver, etc….I’ve been playing with perfume to decide what to take on holiday and the result of my experimentation is that Dakkie and Isabella have taken themselves off to the spare room and the dear man has compared me unfavourably to an in-season civet cat. He’s a calm man, almost stoical usually, but he used some Kiwi vernacular that I had forgotten! Oh dear. A shower, then and immediately! However, a decision has been decided, so it was worth it. I’m going to take all my Chanel samples, so I’ll have Misia and 22 for date nights, Sycamore for car trips, Eau Premiere and Beige for city walks, and so on. That works! And of course, I aim to buy a little, so towards the end of our trip, I will likely have Hermes for some deeper variety.
Hey, be well, all.
Ah, your judgment on what to take was rendered with the wisdom of Solomon! Couldn’t be more perfect. Hope you have a terrific vacation.
Nice choices! Have a wonderful vacation and looking forward to hearing all about it!
Sounds like a great solution. Bon voyage!
I am joining sistine in Alahine this evening. Such a pretty scent.
I just finished coloring my hair. Had a long day of work, errands, and bill paying. Today I wore Taylor, Taylor Swift. I really like it for work, it’s fairly easy going, and smells like peaches. I received a compliment on it too! I’m going to try and stay up to see (hopefully) the Cubs win tonight. It’s also a way to avoid the dishes. Hope everyone has a good rest of the weekend.
Cubs are doing well so far!
Congrats on their win!
They knocked out the Dodgers…with Kershaw pitching…by a shutout. I’m going to savor that for a looong time. ????
Just relaxing, having finished a salmon burger I made for dinner-new recipe I tried from the NYTimes. Not bad, not very memorable either. Watching Jaws now. Guess you’d call it a fish-themed might.
I’m currently testing Artemisia by Penhaligon, mainly because I was drawn in by the packaging. An unusual scent, definitely musk-centered but I smell the violet, just not sure what else.
It’s got very good lasting power.. soft & soothing.
Melissa, I am totally baffled. Was it not selling well? Were there issues with ingredient availability? I thought it was quite popular and haven’t found anything quite like it. 🙁
Haven’t been following closely this week, so I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this New York Times article, “Aroma: the New Building Amenity.”

The hotel I stayed at in Seattle recently had a very nice aroma rather like sandalwood. It was subtle and very nice, far better than so many of the overbearing woody notes in perfumes these days. I asked but although the people at the desk knew that something was being used to scent the lobby, they didn’t know what it was.
Now I see Robin posted an article about it yesterday. 🙂
Beat you to it — but a kind reader sent it to me in the first place 😉
Commando today, and its a good thing. We turned on the heat for the first time since we bought our house in July, and someone has SCENTED THE HEAT. The previous owner was fond of scented home products. It smells to me like those packets of wax beads that all the home improvement stores carried about 5 years ago to put in your vacuum cleaner; one of them was a woody oriental that I actually bought once. But where would you dump those beads in a heating system? Our ductwork is recent, and it’s that plastic flexible stuff. Guess I’ll just have to wait it out. Bother.
Look (and smell) the furnace filter, that would be my guess.
ZOMG blech! Who would do that?!? Best to you in removing the source and/or waiting it out. Sounds horrific 🙁
Finished up the last of my Bois des Isles sample last night and finished Rue Cambon this morning…am saving my very large decant of Cuir de Russie and no 22 for heavy sweater weather…I am so grateful to my two fragrant fairies (looking at you H and h 🙂 !!) for giving me the opportunity to try the exclusives as well as reacquainting me with my beloved no 22……
Btw the new Cuir de Russie edp is smelling great, I am hoping someone will split it in the next splitmeet!
How does it compare to the EDT?
See hajusuuri’s comment up above somewhere…..I am pretty sure she made a comparison….
and others have said there is no change in longevity which makes me wonder why they upped the price ???
Sunday! On my way to spin class sporting Corsica Furiosa, but will change to something more “weather appropriate” after shower. Another glorious day in the swamps!
I will be making caramel apples today and can’t wait to sample them????
Hoping you all have a fragrant and relaxing Sunday ????
Yum, you smell(ed) great! I do want a bottle of that one.
Another dark blustery day here in Montreal, but at least the rain has stopped. The park is a carpet of yellow leaves with all the wind, it’s pretty. Cozied up in Tauer Incense Rosé.
What is that sparkly note? Fragrantica says there’s bergamot in IR; might it be that?
I think there might be a bit of aldehydes in there.
I had a nice time time sniffing this weekend at Sniffapalooza with Hajusuuri and Ihadanidea. Out of everything I smelled, and it’s too much to list, there are 2 things I’m lemming: Slumberhouse Ore-really love the deep, dry cocoa note, and Chanel Egoiste EDT which I’ve never given skin time before. I think I like it better that Bois des Iles which I like, but the aldehydes sometimes make it feel a bit harsh.
And I added some new things to my swap list, mostly newly obtained maufac samples.
I’ll have to give Egoiste a sniff. I do love BdI but there is always room for another sandalwood. Glad you had fun!
It’s a little less dry to me, slightly sweeter. Also smells pretty unisex. It’s worth a sniff.
Cocoa note you say? I’m there.
Glad it was a fun time with our smelly friends.
Have you tried the Lush Soft Couer massage bar? It’s a small heart-shaped one and it’s cocoa deliciousness. I use it as lotion.
I’ve never even heard of this! I’ll be sure to seek it out. Thanks!
I am sort of generally in love with Slumberhouse right now.
I’ve only given a few serious skin time. I think ore might be my favorite of the ones I’ve tried.
I am sampling Geisha Noire in the oil form. It is gorgeous, and I can’t stop sniffing my wrist. I checked on the price of the perfume, and it is relatively reasonable, so if this continues, it may go on my FB list.
Just tried Geisha Rouge and it is lovely as well. More clove, I think. It will be hard to choose between the two.
Craving rose today, and the one that hit the spot is Guerlain Rose Nacrée du desert. Really like it on fall days but the sample is almost empty.
Anyone know a perfume that is like it but maybe not as expensive or impossible to get?
Ok so I just looked online and discounters have it at a less extreme price. I don’t love it enough for a full bottle though.
I found myself in the same conundrum and happened upon an ebay store selling carded samples for like $2-3, so you might check there. (I bought 15 or so – hopefully they won’t evaporate too quickly!) Someone also had a decant up for swap at the swapmeet.
Thanks for posting this – it really made me crave it so I’m wearing it now. I’m sick and my sense of smell is compromised, but I can definitely smell it – divine…
Happy weekend all! I’ve just added some Le Labo Rose 31 toiletries to the swapmeet, forgot I had them, hope somebody else would like them.
Back in the airport (where I seem to live, sometimes). SOTD is SL “Ambre Sultan”, which is hovering politely in the background when I would rather it a bit further forward.
Sniffed a few Pradas in Duty Free. The men’s Amber Intense had too much soapiness for me, so I preferred the women’s Amber, but neither cried out to be explored further. The Tom Ford stand had the new green set in, but no testers and at £116 for the small bottles I am not buying blind.
Should have mentioned, I started the day before showering in CSP “Amour de Cacao”, and given I was feeling pretty bleurgh it was quite nice to crawl about the house smelling like a chocolate vanilla sponge. :^)
The Cubs are in the World Series, Chelsea thumped Man U, and I’m wearing Mitsouko. This Sunday is off to a great start. …It would only be better if my back hadn’t decided to act up. Eh, what are ya gonna do?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everybody!
Today I wore a raspberry-colored top and instinctively wore a fragrance that, if it were a color, would be a deep raspberry-magenta: CK Deep Euphoria. (I mean, look at the bottle.) It just seemed natural to color-code my clothing with my scent today, then I was surprised I did it. Does anyone else match scents with the color they’re wearing?
Swaps are starting to trickle in and my perfume corner is an embarrassment of riches! Have been testing things all weekend and the biggest surprise has been SL Chergui. I don’t know what I expected – actually I had really low expectations because I’ve not particularly loved most SL I’ve tried – but delicious wood pudding wasn’t it. So yummy! I’ll be wearing it a lot this fall/winter.
Chergui is a brilliant scent.
I too am enjoying the packages arriving almost daily.
Today was Alahine which is one of the most beautiful ambers I’ve tried to date. Grateful for swap meet!
Wearing my second newly swapped decant, Masque Milano Russian Tea which is stronger than anticipated, and also seems to be a bit shimmery-changing between tea and spice, and something else maybe aldehydic/mysterious?
