It's Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Aftelier Vanilla Smoke. I should be drinking lapsang souchong to match, but it's too early in the day. I'm still on Bond Street English Breakfast, from Upton.
Reminder: 9/9 will be Tea Time Friday: wear a fragrance with a tea note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Game of Thrones tea-for-one teapot is $34 at Etsy.
I’m in AG Eau du Sud, we’re enjoying Mediterranean weather here in the Netherlands! Eau du Sud is like a splash of freshness and it lasts. Later on I will switch to Chamade Extrait, I found a bottle at a good price and it just arrived…
Chamade is so terrific.
How does the extrait compare to Chamade Eau de Toilette? I love Chamade.
I was constantly wearing Eau de Sud over our long hot sunny holiday weekend we just had, and it was perfect. It is remarkably long lasting for an EDC. And of course, I have to applaud your choice of Chamade extrait for a refresh later in the day. You smell fantastic!!!
Eau du Sud is the perfect fragrance for those priceless warm, dry days of late summer early fall. I was wearing it yesterday, but it may be too hot and humid here today in the DC area.
Osmanthe Yunnan.
Lovely fruit scented black tea.
love it
I wore that yesterday and it made me so happy.
My SOTD is Profumum’s Ninfea and I’m drinking a cup of Stash Chai Green Tea.
Is the Stash chai pretty good?
AA Herba Fresca.
Yum.
I never realized Herba Fresca had tea notes, until I was looking up fragrances with tea notes on Fragrantica. one of my favorites, but I only smell the mint.
A teacher just told me it smelled like “something you plant to keep the bunnies away”. ???
I got a decant of Herba Fresca form the STC sale, but I’m hesitant to see if it still smells as good as I remember.
Rose Ikebana, it was next to my computer as I packed up. May be a good choice as it is to be very warm today and many things would be too much. One can seldom say JCE things are too much.
Twins!
So lovely, I was given a small bottle as a present recently for my birthday and it makes me happy every time I spray it on – the top notes are pretty.
Exactly, JCE is usually the nose of discretion.
;-D
Umm, that should have been *grin* 😀 rather some kind of winking grin.
I’m in Jasmine Tea (discontinued) by L’Occitane. It’s pretty much perfect for a warm day. The first few sprays smell very strongly of tea and in general it reminds me of iced jasmine tea I like to make in the summer.
I remember that one! And the mint tea, they were both nice.
Bulgari Black. Delicious and stunning black leathery and smoky tea scent, especially in another grey, windy day. Very uplifting.
Yum, you smell cozy.
You smell fantastic!
Amouage Silver, just a tiny amount 🙂
In a rut again with Safari. Not sorry. 🙂
Delightful rut to be in, I think!
Safari is perfectly gorgeous. I almost wore that today. I had it on once or twice last week. You just can’t go wrong with it – smells great from top to bottom.
I am wearing CdG: Leaves Tea which is a mildly off-center smoky tea. Wearable but with interesting plasticy smells underneath. This could be CdG Tar’s little sibling.
I am drinking more mixed Ceylon.
Sounds intersting. There’s a CdG that smells like Scotch tape. I can’t remember which one, now.
I tried it. It doesn’t smell like tape. 🙁
Are you thinking of CdG Eau de Parfum? So confusing that they didn’t give it some sort of specific name (specially since it came so late in the collection).
Maybe Odeur 53?
It’s CdG 2011, I’m pretty sure.
Thanks for mentioning CdG Tea! I knew I had a tea fragrance but my brain was not responding … Now I also know what I will be wearing today!
I went for a run, had some coffee, put on Rose Ikebana, and I am ready to take on the world!
Great start to the day.
Lovely!
Love the teapot!
Tea is French roast coffee
SOTD is JM incense & cedrat.
you smell lovely!
That teapot cracked me up, and I don’t watch Game of Thrones.
SOTD is the lovely Alahiiiiine. I’ve missed this over the summer!
Mmmmmm.
Mmmm indeed. 🙂
Gorgeous! I can’t wait for some cooler weather so I can really put on a nice big spray!
It has been FREEZING in my office this week (no idea why), and with the rain it’s also been DARK in my office … Alahiiiine to the rescue! 😀
I am back at work after a long summer vacation and I need a lot of coffee or tea to wake me up. I only have one tea fragrance which is Tea for Two but since the weather is still summery I went with Chanel No.5 Eau premiere layered with L’Occitane body oil.
You smell terrific.
That sounds like a nice combo!
About to hop in the shower while in the dry down of Une Rose Vermeille. URV is very tenacious and not meant for the dentist. It’s gonna be no 19 in extrait for for that. Dinner plans perfume is anyone’s guess at this point.
I love Une Rose Vermeille so much.
As it turns out, I have plenty of tea-inspired frags to play with this week. SOTD is Jo Malone Oolong.
you smell great!
You smell awesome, Robin! Love that one by Mandy.
SOTD for me Narciso EDP.
I’m getting more excited about fall! Grateful to be living in the north east where we really get to experience the change in seasons.
Oh you smell lovely. One of my favorites!
I am totally on edge waiting for fall… I don’t think there’s anywhere I’ve been that isn’t wonderful in fall…. We got the four seasons in CA. Subtle, but there. The long running joke was we’d get all four seasons, but sometimes it was all on the same day, which is very true. I’ve lit a fire in August in SF and worn T-shirts in February…
You smell great.
What is this ‘fall’ of which you speak?????
SOTD is CBIHP Russian Caravan Tea but I think my sample has turned. Now it smells acrid; such a shame.
I have a hard time smelling that one. It’s nice but I think I must be missing something.
I also have a sample of Lavender Tea but now I am afraid to spray it!!
Crud, I love that one.
Same here.
Trying my tester of Dilletante today. Very nice! This could easily become a favorite!
That would be Dilettante
I fell in love with this one lady week but I need to acquire a spray decant before taking the plunge. It doesn’t last very long at all on me.
wearing X for women today.
Also, I found out that Frederic Malle is coming out with a Portrait of a Lady shower cream and body/hair oil. I’m so stoked.
Oh dear. That will be irresistible to me. What is X like?
it’s peachy, fruity, mainly jasmine. It really lasts on me, which I enjoy. my guess is if you like Mohave Ghost you might want to give it a sniff. (not that they smell anything alike, just in my mind they’re of the same vein.) due to the packaging and all the hoopla I assumed I wouldn’t like any of the Clive Christian perfumes. but…
Ooh, sounds great. 🙂
I like X and C, but I have a small bottle of V that anyone can have who would love it.
OOO I would be interested! Email me for details and maybe we can swap? Madtolive88510 at gee mail
I was planning on Treizieme Heure but grabbed Cuir de Russie instead and went with it. We are on our way to take Haineko to the vet for her allergies. She slipped outside with the others this morning and went frog hunting on the riverbank so we will not be on time. Everybody else came running with tails held high but she was busy and didn’t bother so it took a full hour to locate her. I scheduled a drop-off appointment so we can run errands so the time isn’t critical, but Mr. Minion hates being late and is a smidge grouchy.
You smell great! I recently got to sample a few of the exclusives thanks to a very generous perfume pal and , surprisingly, that one was my favorite! (the other two I tried were Rue Cambon and Box of Eels)
I was surprised to love Rue Cambon too. On paper it doesn’t sound like me at all but I plan on getting a bottle at some point. My decant is going fast even after I re-bottled it to prevent evaporation.
You smelly absolutely fabulous!
Happy Wednesday!
1) The apartment is in that “looks horrible before it gets better mode.” Tonight will be the second half of packing and cleaning. I should start a cleaning business on the side, honestly.
2) My new sexy vacuum cleaner and carpet washer arrived! Huzzah!
3) Because I am moving on Friday, will be doing the tea challenge NOW: Am in old school Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. Y’ALL. I used to wear this a lot along with ckONE back in the day and recently found a half sprayed bottled in stuff that I still had from college. My goodness, I forgot how refreshing and wonderful this smelled on! Sticks close to the body in cooler, rainier weather but this would work in the heat. Freaking lovely, and great to wear if you are man or woman.
You DO smell lovely 🙂
I wish I had a sexy vacuum cleaner! ????
Hee! It’s a model that is lightweight YET has incredible power. Clean deep carpet and smooth floors and has all the handheld tools. I love it!
Im looking for a vacuum cleaner, which one is it?!
It’s the Shark Rotator Lift Away. I bought it on sale but you shoudl be able to find it for $199-$229.
I wish I had a sexy person to run my not sexy vacuum cleaner!
Tuberose 40 today – we are having a glorious day of warm late summer and there is a strange sharpness to this (I read it as mainly orange blossom tbh) which really works in this late summer/early autumn weather.
A classic cologne with a tuberose note peeking through. Shane the Pryce is so high because it is my favorite tuberose that isn’t really a tuberose.
Berdoues Assam of India for me today. Wonder if this is NST’s most-worn tea scent? It’s great.
Popped a sample of Demeter Silvery Tip Pekoe in my purse, should I need a top-up later. Love Demeter ‘key chain’ samples.
YOU SMELL SO GOOD !!!!
The fact that I wore it the entire summer daily would make it the most worn tea scent on NST if we ever did a poll 🙂
Sticking with the theme, sort of, I’m in the simple and delightful Philosophy Fresh Cream.
It’s not tea, per se, but it can GO INTO tea right? That’s how I’ve justified it, no matter how illogical.
Happy Hump Day to all. ????
🙂
It counts because it came out at the same time as the tea scent from Philosophy (the name escapes me now but someone wore it this week) and I think they were meant to be layered?
http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Philosophy/Tea-Leaf-17772.html
Deva-
You were right on the money! Read above (hope the link works!)
I am pretty sure that the three were meant to be layered…
Yes, it’s all coming back to me now. I think I initially tried this one on Hajusuuri’s recommendation. Strangely, I have never seen the tea or honey version…
Same here – I never saw the tea or honey but I like how you think vis-a-vis wearing a complementary scent!
SOTD Mjda Bekkali Fusion Sacre Elle. This one is growing on me. The rhubarb/celery green opening against the warmer, creamier base was a little jarring the first few times, but now that’s the part I like.
SotD = Aroma M Geisha Vanilla Hinoki. I smell bergamot.
Makes me want to say, “Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.”
LOL! 😀
LOL!
😀
Make it so! ????
No tea today. The review of IA Memoirs of a Trespasser made me pull out The Soft Lawn, which is also appropriate for the US Open. This was an impulse buy, and I’m still in a bit of regret mode. So, I figure if I wear it, I may recover that initial reason I splurged….
Off to the bank with my husband. I kid you not, but we have about $900 in rolled quarters to deposit. He had them scattered in piggy banks and jars. Literally too heavy for me to carry on my own. My local branch is closing soon, so we need to get this done to avoid a farther schlepp.
Very appropriate for the US Open. Can’t say I’m particularly fond of the smell of tennis balls, but maybe with some linden it’s not half bad.
Wow! Good job on the rolled quarters. Amazing how that can add up.
I didn’t get the tennis balls when I first sniffed. I got the linden. Now I’m getting the tennis balls. Go figure…
Wow! That is heavy. We had a jar of change that we took to one of those machines in the supermarket that counts it and gives you a receipt for cash exchange. It was $100 worth, and that jar was very heavy. I’d need a wheel barrow for $900!
Santal Cardamome by Fragonard
Tea is a green tea from MF
How do you like the Santal Cardamone? I have it, it is nice but very fleeting on me.
Fleeting on me but I am enjoying it while it lasts!
Wearing JM Earl Grey & Cucumber for the tea week – it’s still not among my favourite Malones, but certainly wearable.
I recently bought a lapsang souchong by Meert. It comes in the most beautiful art deco tin and is so smoky that it smells like leather.
Agreed..it wasn’t my favorite either ….
Agreed on the Malone. I bought it when I was in the midst of a perfume crisis – traveling, ran out of what I had with me, this was what I could find etc – and it served its purpose, but I don’t love it. Now I always have piles or decants with me wherever I go!
I seem to have no tea notes at all, not even a sample. Interesting.
I do have orange blossom and am wearing Elie Saab today and I find it just lovely. Eagerly awaiting Dilettante to arrive! A little bonus present to myself and I can’t wait!
Elie Saab is a beautiful perfume.
Enjoy your little bonus present 😉
Thanks! Love your new avatar, so pretty.
I agree: ES smells lovely!
I’m wearing Atelier Oolang Infini.
Nice!
I’m enjoying remnants of last night’s Guerlain Shalimar … Mexique. A cozy fragrance to fall asleep with and wake up to.
did you change your avatar too? it looks good 🙂
Testing for the first time Terracotta Voile D’Ete…thanks to my beautiful friend who sent me so many lovely samples and decants which I am exploring with pleasure 🙂
Wearing Rebel & Mercury’s Audacious today. One of my favorites.
I tried so hard to get one of their body oils shipped out, but the owner was so unpleasant and kept my money without shipping for so long that I finally just requested a refund ( which took weeks).
How long do you find their scents last??
Quite long; Audacious will last all day for me.
Sorry to hear your emcounter with the owner was unpleasant. I’ve not experienced delays.
Late as usual! I need to rearrange my morning routing. SOTD is the deliciously juicy SL La Fille de Berlin. Cheers to all!!
Definitely “deliciously juicy”! You smell great!
So so good. You smell great. This perfume falls in the ‘just makes me happy’ category.
Guerlain Habit Rouge. It’s smelling particularly good today, as it mingles with the rainy, cool breezes here. Keep this rain coming, Newton!
Robin, that teapot is great–and I say that as someone who doesn’t watch GOT! (But it’s still not as good as a BSG toaster.????)
Ok, you made me look up BSG toasters! I don’t watch GOT or BSG and I want both.
???? Yep, a toaster that puts a ‘Toaster’ on your toast. It never fails to crack me up.
It is actually so hot and muggy here that I couldn’t breathe earlier, so commando right now, although the sparkle of Hedonist Rose is waiting for the Humidex to drop.
Last night when it was cooler Nanban for the lovely dark tea. Today it’s back to muggy and hot and I’m wearing Tobacco Rose again.
great on both accounts!
Planning to test EL Beyond Paradise Men after the gym. No tea fragrances so far this week, but I could always make up for lost time on Friday with the sadly long-discontinued CSP Thé. There was time when that brand was gutsy and original.
Day 3 of Tea Week and SOTD is Mari Candida Gentile “Sideris”.
Top: labdanum, saffron, incense, myrhh and pepper;
Mid: sideritis (a.k.a. mountain tea);
Base: sandalwood, benzoin, woodsy notes and beeswax.
This is beautiful and comforting, good today on a warm humid day on Paris and I imagine just as good on a cold day. Given MCG does 15ml bottles, I think this is going to turn up in the post at some point in the next few weeks or months.
Work-wise I have had a day of what I would consider to be serial failures either on my part or on the part of the team that I manage. It is very disheartening, and underlines to me that I have never really felt comfortable on or with the current assignment. I am now wondering if I should continue to brave it out until the contract ends in December. I hate quitting (not least because I never had, and I’ve had several years of tough engagements where clients and colleagues liked me and saw me as a success) but I’m really not sure this programme and I are any good for each other.
Oh, tough place to be professionally, Koenigsberg. I wish you clarity of thought. as you deal with your inner debate. If you do withdraw from the contract, though, don’t see it as a failure. Instead, take it as the successful application of self-knowledge.
I don’t know your perfume at all, but the notes suggest to me that I might love it. Another to try. I find my “maybe one day” list very exciting. All those unknown potential glories!
I certainly recommend Sideris as a cozy-yet-interesting fragrance.
I do need to be very clear-minded about it all. I have no doubt that if I withdraw it is one kind of failure. I am far from sure sure that staying on when I don’t feel I am what the client needs, and I am not happy myself, isn’t a worse kind of failure.
I also recognise that when I’m feeling tired and downhearted at the end of a trying day is not the time to write the “So long and thanks for all the fish” letter. :^)
Ah…Douglas Adams. I’m trying to think of something smile-worthy and apposite from HGttG, but all that is coming into my poor befuddled mind (yes, That Chapter — still!) is, that you are caught in the long dark tea-time of the soul. Not quite right, and not comforting at all.
Perhaps when you go home at the end of the week, the decision will come clear? I always find that if I can get up home to Northland, and maybe go to Mimiwhangata, a beautiful place that lies on my heart, the decisions that have been worrying me will fall out of the clean air into my hands. Perhaps the same principle will will work for you up there in The Other Hemisphere.
Well, it is Tea Week. :^)
I had a good conversation with a friend in the same business, and this crystalised my thinking. The next step is to work out how, and not whether, I move on in the right way for everyone.
Thanks Waterdragon – it is weird to discuss this on a perfume blog with someone from the other side of the world , but not a ‘bad weird’. ;^)
Sideris is such a great scent. I hope that your work situation improves. It must be a very difficult position to be in.
Like most things I wear it’s my first time trying out a new sample, and I really like it. And yes, the work situation is no fun at all.
I love Sideris, but wouldn’t have considered it a tea scent. Thanks for pointing that out. And those 15mls are great.
Tough dilemma. I’ve quit a few jobs within the last 7ish years. The deciding factor was how those jobs were effecting me when I wasn’t at work-they were challenging in all the wrong ways. But they were long-term positions. Not sure if I’d have made a different decision if I knew there was an end in sight. I hope you find your answer.
Well, I’ve had to take a rather liberal interpretation of ‘tea’, incuding black tea, green tea, mate (hmm), “mountain tea” (oh, come on!). :^)
That’s just the thing. My friends notice how tired and drawn I am and I have bad dreams about work or can’t sleep. I have a good reputation in the industry and I’m starting to find it ridiculous to put the phone down on agents and and contacts saying I’m not available for their programmes until 2017, and then facing the next sh**storm here where I really don’t feel I’m giving my client what they want and I’m certainly not getting what I want myself.
You only live once, life is too short, etc., etc.
I have to say that leaving unsatisfying work situations really bumped up my sense of self-worth and value, eventhough there was guilt, initially. That goes away with practice ????
I’m going to run with the Douglas Adams theme and recommend you have yourself a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster (or some Earth-substitute thereof) as you sort out your work situation. …And “Don’t Panic!” (Oh dear. Sorry, I just couldn’t resist. )????
My comment got swallowed up on the train ride. IMHO, the best time to decide to make a move is when you are enjoying yourself. It seemed you did not get a modicum of satisfaction on this contract. I assume you are an independent contractor and if so, you answer to yourself and no one else.
I’m sampling SHL777 Taklamatan this morning. An initial bit of vanilla incense, transitioning into a sweet woody/vanilla scent. It’s pretty but I don’t think it’s going on the buy list. Somehow it just doesn’t move me.
Is it anything like Vanille 44?
Taklamatan is much sweeter and has resins that add a bit of spice. Vanille 44 is more peppery, lighter on the vanilla, and heavier on the wood.
I really want to try this, sounds right up my alley.
There’s a split on Basenotes. If it goes through, I am getting the partial bottle. Woot!
I am just going to order a sample because if I like it, I really want that bottle too. 🙂
I just found it. Do you just send a PM? Never done one there before.
Yes, just a PM, telling him how much you want. Basenotes splitters are great.
I’m wearing a little CBIHP Gathering Apples and a lot of DSH Pretty & Pink
Is it anything like Equestrian (sp?) ?
Not at all — Gathering Apples smells like watery green apples, Pretty & Pink is like an apple tobacco Turkish delight gourmand.
Equestrian is my new favorite apple scent I think. Woody golden apples.
I definitely got the golden apples way up top – kind of reminds me of a more coluptuous version of the apple in BK Apple Brandy. I may have undersprayed as I did not get much more beyond apple. Pacific Forest, on the other hand, may be worth a bigger bottle. It reminded me of a softer but just as resinous Forest Walk.
Gah – that would be Voluptuous – where is spellcheck when you need it?
Yes, I also see the similarity to Apple Brandy — but I like Equestrian so much more.
De Profundis which is perfect for the cool rainy weather we’re having again today.
Back to the 90 degree mark by the end of this week. Glad we’re doing tea for the community project.
Yes — lucky I did not pick something heavier for this week! Darned hot here.
Hello, NST. I’m bounding off to work early again–That Chapter, you know. I worked for three hours on it yesterday, but I spent most of it with my head in my hands saying, “What? ” I need to be less despairing and more productive today!
The weather has turned back to cold in a nasty vindictive sort of way, so I’ve broken out The Elephant, which is trumpeting its presence victoriously. Love it, even the slight whiff of camphor in the very top. Elephant is not subtle, but it is gorgeous. I love the way it arrives and says, “I’m here. We can start now.”
Be well and safe and have the bestliest of days, all!
Agreed, gorgeous stuff, it definitely trumpets its presence!
Wearing Fate woman today, one of my favorites. It doesnt have tea but it just seemed to be the right thing. The weather has been strange, I think Newton is pushing Louisiana’s weather up here!
SOTD is Atelier Silver Iris. Have figured out that the gravatars have only changed when I am looking at them on my iPhone. On my laptop (Windows 7), they are the same as in the past.
Looking forward to testing the new TF Orchid Soleil again tomorrow. On me, it’s a creamy lily-tuberose combination. It has a salty overtone in the beginning that I don’t quite care for (I just don’t care for salty notes, I guess, which is probably why none of the Merveilles have ever worked for me). The saltiness fades and then it’s just creamy florals. Very unlike Black Orchid, which I can’t wear at all. Am waiting for some decants of Lys Soleia so I can compare. IIRC, Lys Soleia is more banana/fruity at the beginning, though the dry downs seem similar.
No tea for me today. I’m wearing Andrea Maack Sharp because I needed something nice and sweet, as the wedding countdown has driven me entirely to comfort scents.
When is the big day?
Next Saturday… which is either too soon or much too far off!
OMG – Congratulations and Best Wishes!
SOTD was Vétiver Tonka, SOTE Ambre Narguilé. I might be able to claim a little tea in the latter but I can’t really tell. Enjoying it anyway.
Brrr, a sudden relapse of winter here! Chambre Noir for me today, I always think of it as a warm scent, and I’m going to need all the warming I can get.
It’s horrible all over our small country, so hoping all is well with Wagerdragon up north and Kanuka down south.
I’ll know the Wellington weather soon. I’ll be there tomorrow! Can’t wait to meet you in person!
Sniffed the new Louis Vuitton scents and tried Dans la Peau and Matiere Noire on skin. Have to do some more sniffing around but Dans le Peau may end up being my souvenir birthday gift
Ah, then they’re fabulous?
They’re well done but Matiere Noire definitely doesn’t qualify as fabulous on my skin–it’s an airy black currant inflected oud but it was the SA’s favorite. Dans le Peau I like quite a bit. Will try to slip in some more sampling tomorrow between museums and tourist attractions and stuff
I got Mille Feux and want Matiere Noire too. I think they are nicely done scents.
Eagerly anticipating autumn with a generous spray of volutes edt this morning, the weather had other thoughts, and decided on a heat wave. Re sprayed with chasse aux papillon this afternoon, much better.
Tea of the day; Twinings Darjeeling, with homemade courgette & apple cake. Perfect partners.
Volutes is lovely but yea a bit warm today!
It’s a Dzing! day here. Happy hump ☺
Theorema again, don’t know if it’s truly tea-like, but lately if I’m feeling fuzzy and undecided, it always works a charm.
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
I wanted to make sure I wore this at least one day this week. I could only wear this when it is not oppressively hot and we’re still OK today. We get the yucky hot weather again starting tomorrow – blech!
How is your presentation coming along?
Too many hands stirring the pot! Waiting for the exec to decide if we’ll proceed. Maybe I have to wear No.19 tomorrow!
Fantastic choice for taking advantage of your weather!
I started in Vanitas, then showered and switched into Carnal Flower for the afternoon. It was very hot and humid here today – hoping this week is the last gasp of the beastly summer heat.
