Our standard issue open thread poll: talk about anything you like — the perfume you’re wearing today, the perfume you decided not to try after reading a description in the scent of the day poll, whatever.
I will be spending Saturday driving home from my last summer vacation, so likely I won't be able to chime in until Sunday.

Perhaps not such a good choice for a horrible muggy hot Michigan day, but I just wanted incense, so I am wearing Copal Azur. My little travel bottle is almost empty – trying to decide if I want to spring for the interesting big bottle.
In other news, the Olympics seems to be going better than expected, at least what they are showing us on TV, but US politics continues to devolve. I prefer thinking about perfume choices! Have a great weekend, everyone!
Copal Azur is one of the few incense fragrances that I can wear in the heat and humidity, but as I’m still miffed that it doesn’t smell like copal I’m not going to buy a bottle.
As I typed that I realized how childish I’m being about it 🙂 So there! *insert pouty face here*
I had the same pouty face over this one, although I think it smells lovely. Have you come across any true copal fragrances?
I wish! If I ever do, you’ll be sick and tired of reading about it every day on NST.
I believe I read somewhere that the actual copal resin is insoluble in anything that can be used as a fragrance carrier or something..there is some reason that actual copal is never in fragrance. Sort of like there is no real LOTV used in perfume because every part of the plant is poisonous to humans. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
No, I think you’re right about Copal needing to be a created accord. I’m just surprised that nobody has done so yet.
Many thanks for all the wonderful Birthday wishes!
The party was fantastic- much laughter, singing and dancing.
Mr. Beam was present, but did not dominate the celebration.
Huh! That older, wiser thaang really is true. Who’da thunk it?
😉
Scent of today is 10 Corso Como.
Tomorrow (my actual Birthday) will be Musc Ravageur.
Happy Birthday to fellow Leos, monkeytoe and Filomena ! Many more!
😀
Glad it was fantastic! Happy Birthday Weekend!
Happy birthday! Hope your weekend is filled with fun and cake!
Happy Birthday, Bear. You are THE party!
Way to celebrate in style!
Happy birthday and enjoy your cinnamon-musk! 😀
Happy Birthday!!!
Safe drive, Robin! SOTD: Byredo Pulp. Everyone who loves this should know that the perfumer, Jerome Epinette, also does the scents for the R+Co hair products. Quite a few of them smell exactly like Pulp, which is to say DIVINE.
A date update, for everyone who was so helpful on Thursday! I was leaning towards L de Lolita Lempicka, but went with Baccarat Rouge 540 at the last minute for the sparkling, candied effect. The actual barbecuing itself was less than successful, but the date lasted for three hours, and he texted me the next day! I’m pretty sure I have my good luck charm, NST, to thank! 😉
Yay! I’m so happy it went well! I’m not familiar with that perfume, but it sounds like it was the perfect choice.
I’m so glad your date went well. You smell great and have reminded me that I’m almost out of conditioner and may need to try something different. Pulp scented hair product sounds great.
Good to know about Jerome Epinette. I’ll have to look those hair products up. I’m a big fan of at least three of his fragrances: Byredo Rose Noir, Atelier Jasmine Angelique and Mistral Patchouli.
I’m happy your date went well ☺
My salon uses R+Co, and I really like the products. Their Badlands dry shampoo paste is the only dry shampoo I’ve ever been able to work with. And the line really does smell nice!
Glad to hear the good news!
Thought about you a couple of times that evening and sent you mental good wishes. Also thought how wonderful it is to be able to be connected to people I’ve never met, who are many many miles away through a shared interest and positive thoughts. NST is a good thing!
I’m so glad the date went well!
So glad the date was successful! L de Lolita Lempicka will be perfect for another occasion, I’m sure!
Yay for the happy date news! I hope it keeps going well for you.
I’m wearing L’occitane Pamplemousse Rhubarb today. To me, this smells like a perfect sunny morning.
Happy Saturday everyone!
I am quickly running through the hand cream in that scent 🙂
Our last day in Málaga (goodness that fortnight went by quickly). Last night we took a boat out into the harbour to see the fireworks greeting the start of Málaga’s Fería; today the city is teeming with people starting a week of partying, with stalls selling food, drink and brightly coloured tat everywhere. There are women in flamenco dresses and musicians everywhere.
SOTE last night was Maria Candida Gentile “Finisterre”, which is a great salty sea perfume, probably the equal of my beloved Acqua di Sale and of course both cheaper and available in small bottles.
SOTD today is The Different Company “Sel Vetiver”, a pleasant light vetiver scent. Since I already have Guerlain and Hermessence vetiver, and am not a complete vetiver-head, I won’t be taking this one any further. Lasting power on a hot sunny day is not good.
I’ll arrive home after midnight tonight and am off to Paris on Monday to resume on-site hostilities with my lovely client. :^
Have a safe return. You have a great perfume collection to help fortify you for the Paris client 😉 !
Love Aqua di Sale and Finisterre. Sel de Vetiver is meh to me.
Do you ever like rose with your salt?
I haven’t tried it Amy – what would you recommend? :^)
Both that I wear are pretty sheer, so maybe not to your taste: Rose d’Ecume and the new D S and Durga Atlantic Rose. Le Galion Rose isn’t quite salty, but there is a light seasideness about it too. Curious is there are others out there.
I got the go-ahead from my surgeon to wash my hair yesterday. To celebrate this accomplishment, I sprayed myself with a little Vepres Sicilliennes. It’s the little things.
Unfortunately, she also has decided to leave my drains in until at least next Wednesday. I find them uncomfortable and repulsive, so I will be sequestered in my house a while longer. Good thing I brought some work home this summer to keep me busy! 😉
Please report back any exciting summer adventures, or even mildly amusing diversions, so I can live vicariously through you!
PS. I have been catching up on The Walking Dead during my convelescence. I feel like there’s some irony to binge-watching a zombie show while stumbling around the house in a hospital gown.
Being able to wash your hair must help enormously. I’m not familiar with Vepres Sicilliennes, but will investigate it and it’s good that it’s helping your spirits.
You could be binge watching “Scrubs”, which might make you laugh so hard your drains would pop out, or wonder about your surgeon 😉 . Best to you for a speedy recovery. The mind body connection is so important and you have that wrapped up!
Thanks, Wendysue! I have never seen an episode of Scrubs, either! When I tire of the zombie appocalypse, I will look into it! (I’m easily 15 years behind on TV shows, though, so I’m hardly spoiling for choice!)
Funny you should mention mind-body. I was having deep thoughts on this last night. I was thinking about how we separate out the mind/self and the physical self, and how having surgery can serve as a reminder that this duality is an illusion. When my body is altered, it changes me. It changes *me*, not just my body–how I think about myself, how I move through the world (literally and figuratively). If my self was separate from my body, this would not be so; it would just be a change in flesh.
Ah forgive me. My father was a philosophy pHd candidate before he left university to become a full-time hippy. Some of it clearly has rubbed off on me! 🙂
Really enjoyed reading your mental musings! Obviously your father rubbed off on you in a very good way 🙂
Thanks! Mostly, I think Dad’s philosophizing just made us kids kinda weird. Imagine debating with a teenager who insists on defining terms, first. 🙂
Hooray for your clean hair!
I even lathered twice!
MR, you are a seriously tough cookie to be able to cope with having drains in. I hope that your first hair washing is wonderful! (And maybe even fragrant!)
Yeah, not really my call, though, is it?! I was SOOooooo hoping she’d say that they could come out, and she did look mostly sincere in her apologies for the inconvenience. Ah well. I’ve had worse. (And getting clean hair and smelling nice really *does* make it all more bearable!)
Nice to hear that you are well on the road to recovery. Sometimes the small milestones have a huge impact… like having clean hair!
Thanks, Jalapeno! You’re so right.
Sounds like you are very much on the road to recovery. Glad to hear it!
Thanks, floragal. Hair washing is an important step, for sure!
Sorry to hear you have needed all this medical intervention. I completely agree with the great boost that washing hair can give one – and also with your mind/body observations!
No worries, Merlin. This was one of those gonna-need-it-some-day-so-might-as-well-get-it-over-with sorts of procedures. Nothing pressing, and I’m glad to think the worst of it is over with.
And, it’s giving me plenty of time to pontificate on the big mysteries of life. 🙂
Speedy recovery, Marjorie Rose! Will you be recuperated in time for school to start?
Thank you, Sapphire. That is the goal! The recovery is predicted to be of the slow-and-steady variety, but I will be allowed to drive again in a week to ten days. So, then a week or so of “vacation” left, and then a week of meetings and such, and then KIDS! Should be enough time to at least be functional.
I’ve been thinking of you, MR, intending to wish you well when I saw you post. Hope your recovery is but a memory very shortly. Take care.
Very sweet of you, thank you!
Drains 🙁 Hair washing ☺ Hope those come out soon! Those are interesting musings and very true! Wishing you much healing, physical and otherwise.
Good news on the progress! Although it is too late now because you can wash your hair, but if you ever don’t have time to wash your hair but feel like you need to, LUSH has a lemon-scented dry shampoo, a powder you sprinkle on you scalp and comb through. It could get a little messy so if you can go outside to apply and comb through, you will save yourself some cleaning up!
I’ve been wearing 2 perfumes today. The first one – Oud Palao by Diptyque I wore in the morning when it was cold-ish and cloudy to run some errands.
Later the weather got nicer and I changed to Parfum d’Empire Azemour after a shower.
You smell fantastic!
Thank you 🙂
Azemour is one of my favorites – you do indeed smell wonderful.
I really like it a lot. Don’t know if the fragrance changed when the brand switched to new bottles last year, I still have the old version that smells like proper chypre 😉
Same here. When Robin is able to chime in, she may be able to enlighten us on whether it has changed with the new bottle design.
I love Oud Palao!
Me too!
Sampling Something Wild by Derek Lam 10 Crosby. So far its fine, a sweet fruity vanilla. Taking the kids to the mall, so I will come home smelling of at least 3 more perfumes. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Hope you smelled something lovely at the mall 🙂
Happy weekend, everyone! The weather here lately has been challenging from a perfume perspective — the mornings are bundle-up-in-sweaters chilly, and by noon it’s time to turn on the air conditioner. So while I know that in a few hours I’ll be wanting big splashes of citrus cologne and the like, at the moment something warm and cuddly and ambery-woody sounds just about right. What to do? Today’s compromise is L’Eau d’Hiver, and it’s feeling like a pretty great choice really.
Hard to go wrong with L’eau d’Hiver! You smell lovely!
Wearing the dry down of Kyoto and wondering if I should get Avignon. Kyoto is perfect for a hot, cloudy day.
I love Kyoto! I was always using decants of it, I guess one day a bottle is in order.
You smell wonderful! I would love to get bottles of both Kyoto and Avignon, but only have Jaisalmer right now. I love incense in the heat.
I have all 5 of the incense series and love them all. But I am an incense fiend.
Me too I love them all.
So far I’m in just a spray or two of Florida Water. In the truck and heading deeper into the East Texas humidity so am undecided about what to wear when we arrive. We’re heading to my SIL’s new condo for my father-in-law’s “birthday celebration,” which is a thinly veiled excuse to get us to finish decorating before she has renters in next weekend. Since her husband thinks the world should be completely unscented and sterile (and thinks iceberg lettuce with ranch dressing is a salad), I can’t really wear anything too overpowering. Maybe I’ll join Ari in wearing Pulp. I’m making a peach and blueberry crumble when I get there so I can just pretend to have gotten juice all over myself.
You should wear something so exquisitely smelly that the husband fella has a fit of the vapours so you are forbidden the decorating party and banished to the verandah to drink daquiris all day.
😀
Sounds like something I would say. 🙂
Or DO. 😀
That is an excellent idea, except for the 100% humidity and swarms of killer mosquitos. I’ve already volunteered to make the inevitable grocery run and then I’m planning on drinking my fill of good wine that I don’t have to pay for and finding a project in another room. Perhaps a closet needs organizing. I did bring my decant of Salome if I get desperate for solitude 😀
Oh gosh, not in Florida…
(As an aside, my brother now lives in FL and is desperately trying to get my parents to move there. My mother keeps looking at me with these giant worry eyes and saying, “I can’t, I can’t, I CAN’T. The bugs. The heat. I can’t.”)
Assam of India today from a sample.
Nice green scent, glad I got a sample but it will not be a fb purchase for me
Also sampled two scents from Isabey, one is Fluer Nocturne and the other Lys Noir.
Interesting..
Lys Noir was a very close skin scent to me. And FN lasted all through the night and into this morning after I showered.
Anyone tried anything from this line?
I tried Lys Noir, but if I remember correctly, I think it was the tuberose that turned me off. I ended up buying Fleur Nocturne which also has tuberose, but just a touch. Yes FN does last a long time on my skin as well.
Thanks for your input- I don’t like big white florals, but sampling these have been fun
I haven’t tried anything from that line, but I LOVE the bottles.
Glad you got to try it 🙂 You don’t need a fb if you have other nice citruses…I , on the other hand, needed that bottle for the elephants-LOL!
I was in your neck of the woods today …man the heat on the NYC streets was unbearable….I was literally soaked front to back!
Yes..find a nice cafe to sit in -NYC is hot and so is everywhere else!
I would consider the bottle just for the elephants..I wore it to the Farmers Market yesterday and liked it very much to balance the heat.
We ended up at Bosie’s Tea Parlor and walked a few blocks on Bleeker…was able to pop into Jo Malone and Annick Goutal…my oldest and closest friend was with us and I have now found a new partner in crime…she was having so much fun sampling the goodies in AG!
Was just pawing around in the cabinet to see what I should spritz. Not sure what happened but I can’t find my sample of the Nirvana Bourbon nor my sample of Encens Jinhae. Oh well.
Picked up a bottle of the Chandler Burr Untitled Series item I bought well over a year ago. Sprayed it on. Pleasant. A bit salty? Had to go online and look it up. CK Reveal.
New excuse to stay inside or close by during this awful weather… Jammed my baby toe on the chair leg yesterday afternoon. Nicely swollen and bruised. Had to wear flip flops to the movies last night (since we’d already bought tickets). Getting clumsy in my old age…. Either that, or the smaller size of this apartment is making me akin to that bull in a china shop….
I do the same thing lately (stub toes on various furniture legs) – but it can’t be old age. It just CAN’T BE. Can it? 😉
I don’t know about you, but I’ve probably stubbed at least one toe a year (maybe 2-3?) for all the years I’ve been alive, and I’m well into my fifth decade now. So. Not old age. 😉
Thanks, mals (you young whippersnapper you) – I do feel better. 🙂
Ouch! A stubbed toe is one of the most sickening feelings. It’s what I usually wish on people when I really loose my temper (painful, aggravating, causes momentary nausea, and impermanent so as not to cause horrible karmic backlash). Hope you feel better soon.
Would have been worse if it was winter with cold toes! I’m choosing to blame the apartment size, not my age…
Kind of liking Reveal as a summer scent. Beachy.
I remember trying Reveal at Saks when it first came out and thought it wasn’t half bad. I need to give it another try when I see it again.
I cringed reading about this. Pinky toes hurt the most when they’re abused like that, too. 🙁
Ouch!! I feel you. I’ve done my share of stubbing. I dropped my hairdryer on my toe the other morning and much cursing ensued.
Stay cool!!
I’m sampling Ylang 49 this morning and wondering what took me so long to try this – it’s gorgeous! I’ve had the sample (along with a few others from Le Labo) for a year or more, and all those little sample sprays were halfway down this morning except for Ylang. It was just sitting there, feeling forlorn and unloved … and now it’s laughing smugly and saying “I told you so”. Angela’s review here is spot-on (in case anyone is wondering).
I really love that one too!
Enjoy the compliments that will come your way for sure
Getting ready to host a perfumista brunch, so cleaning, doing food prep, and chilling the fizzy wine.
Have fun. Fizzy wine. Hmmmm….sounds like a good idea today.
Oh, I wish I could gate-crash! Hope it all goes swimmingly!
Getting ready here too. Just agonizing over what to wear! A bit muggy today, what’s best for a bunch of sophisticated perfumistas? Subdued yet bright in Vetiver Tonka? Kicking it old school in Odalisque? Ladies Who Lunch in Rue Cambon?
Wear the most exotic rare thing you have and let them guess what it is!
On my way to the brunch as well. Decided to go with No 5 Eau Premiere as the SOTD. Not too original, I know. I was in a rush as usual!
Oh, how nice! Enjoy!
Sounds like a lovely gathering, have a great time!
no SOTD yet, sipping coffee in my robe, which is a lovely mixture of every scent I wore this week.
BUT I digress….did anyone else get the LuckyScent email with the new TF Vert Collection?
Of course, it took over my brain completely at work yesterday the way that work never seems to take over my brain…
I did get that LuckyScent email and I read it and then promptly deleted it. I’ve already reached my max spending on fragrance this month and it’s not even half over.
Hope to find these at Bloomie’s or Saks in the coming weeks.
I saw it too, very curious about Vert Boheme, but I will also wait until my local NM/ Nordstroms gets it to try out. TF and I have a very hit or miss relationship.
Would love a nice green scent to add to the collection, though!
I sprang for their collection of greeny samples, like the sucker that I am. I’ll report back!
After wearing four fleetingly fabulous fragrances on Friday, today is my scentless Saturday. I woke up feeling I’d had enough for the moment. Odd but satisfying, a bit like the day after a holiday with too many sweets. 🙂 Happy weekend, NST!
I wore no “real” perfume all last week — just scented lotions. It does feel like a post-holiday reboot!
Blasted myself with Vetiver Extraordinaire today. I love it more with each blast and my travel size is rapidly dwindling, which is a bittersweet feeling.
Happy weekend and stay cool NSTer’s
You smell fabulous. Such a great scent!
I love vetiver frags but I think I must be anosmic to this one. I just totally don’t get it.
Wearing some Diptyque Satin Oil today…
I am enjoying it. Kind of a fresh jasmine scent I’d call it. It has a spray which is great…otherwise I’d be dumping it everywhere.
Oh, I should try that! Is it silicone based, do you know?
Here are the ingredients…kind of long actually…
Ingredients: Isononyl Isononanoate, Cetearyl Isononanoate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (sweet almond) oil, Squalane, Parfum (fragrance), Olea Europaea (olive) fruit oil, Persea Gratissima (avocado) oil, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Sesamum Indicum (sesame) seed oil, Punica Granatum Seed Oil, Bisabolol, Caprylic/Capric Trigylceride, Bixa Orellana Seed Extract, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil, Benzyl Salicylate, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone, Geraniol, Citronellol, Coumarin, Benzyl Benzoate, Citral, Limonene, Hexyl Cinnaman, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Methyl Benzoate, Benzoic Acid, Tocopherol, BHT.
Wearing Lonesome Rider today. Really loving this one, but still think I need Lonestar Memories. This is more summer appropriate than LM.
You smell great!
I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed Rider. I also thought that it was very wearable. Memories is a more outspoken and distinctive scent, I think.
I put on Diptyque Ôponé this morning, thinking I hadn’t worn it in a while – but now I think that might not be true. Anyway, it is happily cooler here than it has been lately, so Ôponé is doing rather well, although I haven’t fallen in love with it (hooray!).
It is so crazy hot and humid here that I cannot bring myself to even imagine Opone! But I’m sure you smell great 🙂
It was still about 85 yesterday, but the humidity dropped dramatically and I spent the whole day inside. So, I smelled okay.
I’m working today at the library, and wearing Au The Vert. I’mean very excited because I just received three packages, two of samples, from Smallflower and Luckyscent. The third package is from Demeter, with some of their $6.00 minis. Can’t wait to get home so I can sniff.
You just can’t go wrong with those $6 minis!
What did you get from Smallflower?? They have a great selection of samples reasonably priced and free shipping 🙂
I’m in Guerlain AA Nerolia Bianca today. I’m masking and watching the tennis from the Olympics–Rafa v. Del Potro. Life is good.
Have a great weekend, all!
That sounds like a really nice Saturday. Enjoy it!
Atelier Musc is SOTD for me today. It feels very light and figgy, not musky at all. I heard comparisons with Aventus – but never had it so not sure.
A question for you guys- looking for non-scented body sunscreen. Tried a bunch but I always feel like I can smell it and it interferes with my enjoyment of fragrances (maybe it is all in my head!!!) – but would love to hear recommendations.
Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunscreen (the one with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) has a low odor profile. Your mileage may vary, but I find that sunscreen with a physical barrier like zinc oxide has less of a smell than sunscreen with a chemical barrier like octinoxate.
The Neutrogena sunscreen doesn’t seem to leave a scent on my skin. I don’t like the smell of sunscreen to stick to my hands; it interferes when sniffing my wrists. 🙂
I agree. I use the Kiss My Face Oat Protien SPF 30 when I want an unscented sunscreen. The chemical ones all smell like chemicals unless you get the magical ones from Japan or Korea which come in tiiiiny bottles and usually contain a fair amount of alcohol.
MM’s Kiss My Face sounds like something I should check out. I agree on mineral, and usually choose something meant for babies.
I get the ones for baby too although the last one I used, Pure and Free, caused a rash so I ended up using what I know I’m not allergic to but is heart-stoppingly expensive – La Mer for the face sunscreen SPF 30 for my neck area and back of ears and SPF 50 for the rest of me. I just got samples of the La Mer body sunscreen and will give that a test drive.
Cool rainy day here, doing laundry and watching olympics. JM Orris and Sandalwood is the SOTD.
Laundry here too, in a big way 🙂
SOTD is VCA Orchidee Vanille, borders on too sweet, but has just enough woodiness to keep that from happening. Discovered a small decant of SSS Egyptian Musk that I had forgotten I had and have been really loving it. Unfortunately, it is discontinued. I emailed Laurie Erickson and she was gracious enough to recommend Ava Luxe’s Egyptian Musk. Was wondering if anyone had any comparison or what other Ava Luxe fragrances are really good.
I had a big bottle of the SSS Egyptian Musk and drained it …only to find out it became discontinued….I have been wearing Inland Fog Egyptian Musk which is close enough to my nose…but it is an oil format and not an EDT or EDP……
What a gorgeous postcard! Is it braggy if I say that that is almost the same exact view from my apartment building’s roof deck?
I’ve gone with roses and geranium today, from Miller et Bertaux’s Shanti Shanti. No one to please but my gf as it is too hot to go outside. We have been cleaning, and gagging at the algae-colored diving water on NBC…
What a lovely view.
Less lovely, of course, is that green water at the Olympic pools. That happened once in our pool; a quick chemical re-balancing and it was back to crystal clear water. I can’t figure out why the Olympic pool is still green. A mystery.
Oh, lucky you!
Wearing Oriza Legrand’s Foin Fraîchement Coupé. It’s great and very unusual. Today was a gloriously sunny day, not too hot and with a nice crisp wind. Just perfect.
Have to check this one out.
It’s fun and quirky. I like a lot of the others in this line too. The one I haven’t sampled yet, and don’t own a sample of is the Chypre Mousse, and it sounds very good.
Sofa-bound with a bum back, watching Mad Max Fury Road and wearing Daim Blond. When you don’t feel good, you can still smell good…
Well that’s no fun! Hope the relaxation helps.
Thank you! I’ve got ice, painkillers, and an intricate support system involving every pillow in the house ????
Feel better! Enjoy the Tom Hardy!
Oh yes! He’s one of the best prescriptions ever! ????
Hope you rebound soon!
Hope so too. My chiropractor doesn’t have to adjust me often, but times like these call for aid. ????
Ugh, hope it is better soon!
I wonder what a bottle of Furiosa would smell like. Something scorching!
I made a batch of oatmeal date bars this morning before it got too hot. Now I’m sitting in the recliner in the path of the fan eating one and drinking iced coffee. SOTD is Cedrat Enivrant.
*insert image of me floating towards your fragrance, date bars and iced coffee like an enamored Peppy Le Pew!*
I could use an iced coffee right now. I wore Cedrat Enivrant everyday while I was in Portland. My sister loves it so I now have to share with her. Thank God I bought the 200 mL bottle
Me three — a large, with a good inch of cream.
Morning, everyone. I had a gorgeously scented Saturday because Kanuka generously shared samples with me on Friday and I ended up trying all of them, at once, and more than once. Talk about greedy needy behaviour? I was the epitome of that yesterday. Didn’t even do any work, just read books (that is, I wallowed in some novels; I didn’t read serious stuff), played with perfume, decided to tidy our wardrobes but didn’t do it, and felt a bit sorry for myself. Today was meant to be all about focus, dedication and restraint, like resuming a proper diet after binge eating rice crackers and almond butter (yes, I did that yesterday too). So, to this end, my SOTD should be a couple of spritzes of the cool, cerebral, detached Cristalle. But you know what? bother restraint for a game of grown up ghastliness: what I really want is the unsubtle, inexpensive but very acceptable Fancy Nights, in which I am now awash. Oh, and the almond butter should be very, very afraid: I am about to approach it with a spoon, and I’m not going to worry about the intermediary of rice crackers….
‘Restraint’, is that an English word? Haven’t heard it before. Perhaps I should look it up? Nah…
I should really try Fancy Nights. 🙂
SOTD = Orange Sanguine. It has become a comfort scent over the summer, which is the last thing I would have expected. It has calmly dealt with today’s downright dangerous summer weather.
It is indeed good for that. And forgive my profligacy but it is one I occasionally spray into a room that needs refreshing.
Me too! And I don’t feel guilty as I have the 200ml bottle 🙂
But I enjoy it on the skin as well…it is a very versatile fragrance…..I have made several decants for my niece to take with her when she goes back to college to share with her friends…I think it is a good intro for them into the world of niche perfumes, right?
So hot, so hot. We’ve had something like 50+ days of 90+ weather this summer. When I first moved here 20 years ago, we’d get maybe 5 or 6 such days. Boo to heat and humidity.
Yay to Seville l’aube which is giving me something nice and spicy/incense/orange blossomy to smell.
It is crazy hot. I am not leaving the house.
I think there are many perfumes that I decide not to try based on poll comments, but I can’t remember anything specific. There are too many new perfumes that don’t sound memorable.
I’m wearing Cognoscenti Tomato Leather again to see if it lasts longer in this humid weather than it did when I first tried it. I think maybe it is but I’m not sure I like it as much. It smells more like a CdG today, with “petroleum” type notes.
The name makes me think it should evoke fruit leather, but I guess that’s not right. . .
The fruit leathers seem sweeter to me. Think tomato leaf, too. I wish it came in smaller bottles.
Started the day in Assam of India and ended it in so much stuff that I sampled on Bleeker Street in NYC…..finally got to smell Sables….I love it! And the new Jo Malone (Basil and something or other…pleasant but I won’t be getting seeking out a full bottle)….
The Basil & Neroli? Not good?
Thank you for reminding me of the exact name…that’s the one! I liked it enough but couldn’t sniff the drydown as I accidentally sprayed Sables in the same spot only a few minutes later….the Sables was a LOVE…I was sniffing my wrist all the way home on the very long train ride…and the one spray lasted well into the night….the Basil & Neroli I would probably wear if I full bottle fell into my lap 🙂
Oh and the reformulated Eau du Ciel does not smell anything like I remembered of the original (still have an empty bottle from 1994 and will occasionally attempt to inhale the vapors)
Just went out for the first time today and felt like I walked into a wall of bricks. Unbelievable how hot it is out there. I did a very slow walk around the block just to get a change of environment.
When is it going to cool down!?!
Lovely FB friends had to share the article out there on how cockroaches actually will fly in such heat. What a sick thought.
My husband has quarantined me to the living room while he gets the bedroom because I “overdid it with the nasty perfume” today.
He’s referring to Sous le toit de Paris believe it or not. Sigh.
Stay cool friends!
At least it wasn’t Salome 🙂
With Saturday being errands day, I have no choice bjt to be out in the disgusting heat and humidity.
Yeah, no kidding! He has no idea how “bad” it could get when I peek into my ‘fume collection 😉
Hey, at least you have AC blasting on you in the car. Run from one AC place to another and you’ll be just fine.
That’s hilarious… We walked three blocks, grabbed a bus, stopped for brunch, took the bus back. I nixed doing anything else. Wimpy.
There was a live blues concert on the town square last night, and very few people attended, such a shame. But I suspect most folks, like me, are just worn out by the heat, still 91 F at 6:30.
My person banished himself to the sofa the other night announcing the next morning that I was wearing the worst smelling perfume he’d ever smelt. It was a tiny tiny dab of Rozy Viole d’Extrait! Guess that won’t go on the FB wish list.
Wow! That’s quite a strong reaction. You’re making me grateful that most of the feedback I get is either “you smell nice” or “it’s fine.” My Mr. Spicebomb is a man of few words . . . 🙂
Oh my gosh! This is hilarious! I can totally see my husband doing this so thank you for posting. Too funny.
Ha! We have flying cockroaches in the swamp year round and they are the size of a small plane. They fancy it up by calling them Palmetto Bugs, but they’re nothing but roaches on steroids. Absolutely disgusting!!
Palmetto bugs does sound much nicer than the other word.
All disgusting in my opinion. I have no love for bugs and critters.
Having a fun, fragrant weekend so far…..
SOTD: YSL’s Mon Paris. Tried the tester at Belk today, and it’s going strong hours later. I’m enjoying it!
Smelly News: Yankee Candle has ALL candles 50% off this weekend. Coupon is online and on their FB page. If you like fragrance for your home, now’s a good time to try some new fall scents….. 🙂
I started the day in Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I had to go to the mall to buy new shoes for school (yes, teachers go back to school shopping too!) so I tried Gold by Commodity at Sephora. Despite liberal spraying, it had vanished completely within 20 minutes. I’m now wearing Rose Ikebana. Stay cool and safe, everyone!
Oh man do we!
Enjoying a well earned sprinkling of vintage Tweed perfumed talc after a long day of post-move organizing (yes, still). Every now and then I get a glimmer of recognition that a room, or corner, might actually be someplace I’d choose to live.
In my bedroom I collected up the vintage perfume ads bought over the last couple of years, preparing to buy frames and hang them. Wondering if I can draw an unconscious connection between knotty pine paneling and vintage perfumes. Hmm….
I just adore vintage perfume ads! They’re so gorgeous. I love that you’ll be framing and hanging them.
I do want to add at least one to my bathroom.
I also saw today in the street fair vintage menus from New Orleans, Chicago and Paris — loved this idea too! They make lovely gifts too.
Wore the light and lovely Rose Atlantic while driving to the Cape today, then after a shower am testing Le Galion Rose. I really like it for this weather especially.
I got the 5ml minis online through the Paris site, but does any one know where they sell Le Galion in the USA? I am having a hard time finding it.
I haven’t found a stockist in the U.S. A dear perfumista muled back my Le Galion Iris from Paris. I am waiting for this horrid weather to go away before ordering the minis. What’s your favorite so far?
Are you on Cape Cod? I just missed you!
I’m pretty sure Beautyspin has some of them. Little of their stuff is actually at a discount, but I have had good luck ordering from them so far.
Like many, I’m not enjoying this heat. Brutal!!! Seems a degree cooler today, and on my way to a movie. I’m doused in Eau Sauvage and PdN Eau d’Ete, which is a nice, refreshing combo. They’re the only ones I can bear in this heat.
Just passed the bank and the temp reading was 100F. Ouch!
Seen more movies in the past week than the rest of the entire year…
Great ‘fume mix.
The movie theaters must be making out like bandits this week!
Songes! My favorite AG, although admittedly I haven’t had exposure to a lot of the line. I am sort of resigning myself to the fact that I love highly floral perfumes, as well as the spicy woody ones…
Sponges is a beauty.
Gah! Autocorrect will be the death of me. Songes, not sponges.
If more NSTers wear Songes, Sponges could earn cult status like Box of Eels 😉
Ha! Sponges for me from now on! 🙂
Love Sponges!
Sponges for me too….and while I was in the AG Boutique on Bleeker St this weekend I forgot to follow AnnS’s suggestion in trying the EDP…I have only sampled the EDT….which , from what I hear, smells different…..
SOTD is Atelier Bergamote Soleil from a small travel size I always forget I have in my purse. Nice, but obviously not memorable. Happy Sunday ????
Satsuma body oil and lotion after shower, followed by a couple spritzes of my husband’s Eau de Mandarine Ambree.
Did you buy it for him 😉
No. I’m not even sure when he got it but he rarely wears it, so I snagged it…
Gorgeous!
I just heard that Les Exclusifs edts are short timers. Rumor…news…old news?
Word on the street is that the edps will slowly come out starting next month. Check out some threads on Basenotes for more details (I’m not ‘in the know’– just an avid fan)
Thanks! I ordered a Box of Eels for the bullpen. Just to be safe. Looks like most will be pulled by October with the exception of six that will go next spring.
OhMyGosh!! Thanks for the heads up!! I will do some investigating @ the local Chanel boutique & report back! I wonder if all or just some will make the transition to EdP. 28LaPausa &Bel Respiro & 31RC finally?
Not sure when the edps and their steep price tags arrive. I hope they don’t cut any from the line for the transition.
I’m wearing Olfactive Studio’s Still life in Rio to watch the Olympics on television. It’s quite yummy.
After meeting up with perfume pals yesterday, I’ve got little bits of everything on. Voyage in the elbows, Vierges on the knees, and I can’t remember on the wrists…
Popped in Lush today and was excited to see they’ve got some new scents they’ve brought over from across the pond — Kerbside Violet.. and one I really liked called All Good Things which is a smoky vanilla with some other mysterious note I can’t put my finger on.
The hubby tried them too but quickly requested I stick to the rose jam for this brand.
Methinks he’s not a fan of violet…. ????
Thoroughly depressed at the contrast between the heat, light and life of Málaga and the cold, grey suburban tedium I have returned to. Wearing 4160 Tuesdays “Urura Tokyo Café”.
PdN Fig Tea today. It’s a good scent for the unbearable heat and humidity.
That is a great choice! I really like this one.
