It's Hump Day, and it's Patrick Stewart's birthday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Guerlain Cologne du 68.
Reminder: on 7/15, wear one of your "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
SOTD
Field notes from Paris
Ah, you smell great!
It was a blind buy and I do enjoy it very much.
I tried the first seven Ineke scents (the ones in alphabetical order) and Field Notes from Paris was the only one that spoke to me: it’s really fantastic stuff.
Field Notes from Paris was the first one I tried, and although I have several others that I like, Field Notes is still my favorite!
You smell wonderful, Robin. That’s a great cologne.
So happy to see Patrick Stewart’s photo too!
I’m in Ouarzazate and dealing with a very annoying stomach bug. I’m managing to be functional at work, but feeling a bit off in general.
Sorry you are not feeling well but you do smell great! Ouarzazate is such a great incense esp for summer.
Feel better soon! I enjoy Ouarzazate a lot. I also wear Kyoto during summer time. It has never been overwhelming for me on hot weather.
Oh dear, get better soon! And you smell fantastic too.
I hope you feel better! That’s my 2nd favorite incense from that line. You smell great!
I love that one too!
Hope the bug leaves you alone very soon.
Sorry you are under the weather (which is pretty nasty right now in my neighborhood). Hope the day gets better….
Get well soon!
Ouarzazate is good stuff! Hope the bug goes away ASAP.
I have only seen Patrick Stewart as Karla in Tinker Tailor and Smiley’s people, and he was brilliant there.
SOTD is Chergui. It’s not quite hot enough for it today, still gorgeous though.
I must try chergui in hot weather, I only ever wear it when it’s chilly.
I reserve Chergui for winter (cold) months only. Thinking I would suffocate from it in the heat of summer, but perhaps I should give it try…
Me too: it just has “warm blanket in cold weather” written all over it.
I find it much easier to wear in summer, it feels much less dens to me.
That’s interesting as I haven’t tried it and now feel I could try it before we get to September-ish.
I love Chergui. I wear it regardless of anything. And spray it with nonchalance and abandon.
As it should be 😉
Ooh, first one today!
SOTD is Philosykos edt, which arrived yesterday from eBay, 50ml bottle used a few times for £31.
I think I’m going to look out for a good deal on the edp as well, the edt is gorgeous but very fleeting on my scent devouring skin, still it’s so nice to reapply.
Congrats on your new bottle!
Well done and what a lovely smell, hope you enjoy it.
Hi everyone – wearing a summer staple today, Etro Messe di Minuit. Like a little incense air conditioner. It is so sticky here in the Midwest that I want to wear anything that cuts the heat.
Love “incense air conditioner”!
SOTD Sel de Vetiver. I thought it was one of my top summery scents but I’m not enjoying it much today. Maybe just not right for the office.
Soivohle Gardenia Batik for me which is probably my most worn scent so far this summer
OMG Patrick Stewart, I’m fangirling real hard now. Even though I’m a lousy fangirl who doesn’t know when his birthday is. I’m going to see him on live stage opposite Ian McKellen this autumn! They’re so good together, I saw both of them in Waiting for Godot, a few years ago.
I’m wearing PG Ombre Fauve today. Why is it that I have so many decants and samples from PG, but I don’t actually buy any full bottles? It just feels like I’d rather invest in something else. It’s… okay. It’s nice, even. Just not FB material.
Joining you in Bad Fangirldom – Patrick Stewart is fabulous.
Massive fangirl here as well. I started watching Star Trek: The Next Generation because my English teacher had played us an audio recording of his “A Christmas Carol” and I fell in love with his voice. That was 22? years ago, and he just keeps getting more and more fabulous.
OK fangirls, prepare to jump up and down. I had the great pleasure of meeting the fantastic Patrick Stewart, and he is just as charming, delightful, and handsome in person as you would wish. He kissed my cheeks (European style) as we were introduced and held my hand during at least half of our rather lengthy conversation. He then kissed my hand in farewell. Swoon away, I certainly did!!!
Eeeeeeeehhhhhh!
Charming men come and go…..it’s his nonchalance that does me in….
Oh my. He sounds like such a gentleman! What did you talk to him about? I am pretty sure that if Patrick Stewart was standing in front of me and holding my hand, my brain would instantly turn into mush, and I wouldn’t be able to think of anything reasonably intelligent to say…
Oh god so jealous!
HUGE Patrick Stewart fangirl here. It started with TNG (I’m a trekker).
Also a huge fan of PG L’Ombre Fauve. I think that stuff is brilliant and definitely FB worthy for me. It’s a tad sweet, yet dirty, and all very smooth and simply purrrrs on me. Love it. Among the few patchouli types I can wear to the office because it doesn’t have big sillage.
Today I am wearing Oeillet Louis XV that I got as a sample from one of my lovely fragrance friends. It’s starts off very peppery and then dries to a musky floral. I really like it.
Sounds pretty, who makes it?
I think that’s an Oriza L. Legrand. A house I need to explore – but not until my outstanding samples balance drops below a hundred or so. :^)
Thank you!
Tippie – so jealous that you will get to see Sir Patrick and Ian McKellen live !!! Long time fan of Patrick Stewart. You must tell us all about it when you get back.
SOTD is Aromatics Elixir. Perfect herbal remedy to nasty allergies and a sweltering hot day.
It never occurs to me to wear AE on a really hot day but I must try it some time. Anyway, you smell great, it pretty much goes without saying.
I was thinking that! Haven’t tried it in ages but as soon as it was mentioned it really appealed.
This week is sloooow. Pichola for me. I didn’t like it that much last year, but I adore it now.
Yum.
SOTD is the fabulous Philosykos. The travel-sized bottles of that and Tam Dao arrived yesterday, so last night I layered them – partly because I couldn’t wait to try them both, and partly because Robin mentioned the combination in one of her reviews. They’re both SO GOOD! How did I go this long without trying either of them? Philosykos alone is lovely, but I can tell it will be short-lived. The combo with Tam Dao lasted most of the night (in case anyone is left, at this point, to wonder).
Ooh I must try this combination!
What fun, enjoy your new bottles! And the small ones are so cute.
Eau des Merveilles for today. Another summer favorite of mine, though summer has been eluding us in these parts this year. Another drizzly grey morning.
Perry Ellis Reserve, probably the last great PE scent (from 1997, the last lingering days before absolutely every men’s scent became fresh/ozonic/aquatic): warm, smooth, floral-woody, an instant classic.
I’m wearing Byredo Bal d’Afrique today. Its very summery. Good thing because its already 88 degrees, and its only 9:15 am.
I was just getting myself some decants and samples – stuff I have tried and liked, or that needed a re-test – when I read this. Have chucked a sample of Bal d’Afrique onto the list. It’ll probably be months before I try it, mind! :^)
Wearing the sample of Lancone O d’Azur that cane with my recent purchase of Allure Homme Ed Blanche (tired of me mentioning it yet?!). Seems to be a fruity rose. Not bad, but kind of wish I had just worn the Allure, my true love.
Happy Birthday Captain Picard! Aging like a fine wine, he is! 🙂
No SOTD for me today! The air is too hot and sticky….I just couldn’t groove with it today! Maybe this evening….
Y’all have a great day!
He is indeed!
I’ve bought a couple of Frapin samples on a whim and – OMG! I tried Frapin 1270 the other day and was smitten immediately. Wearing 1679 (?) absolue today, and it is nearly as great.
I love Frapin 1270. I might have to drag it out and wear it today.
Have you tried other perfumes by Frapin? I am curious now about this house, especially since other perfumes are available at a large discount from online shops 🙂
Fate Woman. ????
Dang girl – you smell goooood.
Say hi to T-Rex for me.
Oh Captain, My Captain…
I love Patrick Stewart. (I was the nerdy kid who wore a Next Generation uniform to school for Halloween in fifth grade, which went over about as well as you would imagine with the other kids). And even though I’ve grown out of my Star Trek obsession, Stewart continues to hold my interest in my comparative old age. His advocacy for victims of domestic abuse is wonderful, and every interview I’ve ever seen with him makes me love the man. I have a bizarre fantasy of him officiating my wedding someday – unlikely to happen, but a girl can dream.
No perfume just yet – wearing this vanilla scented lotion on my legs and arms and that’s proving to be fragrant enough for now.
I’m wearing Knot for the first time. I’ve lost my Bottega Veneta mini bottle. A few weeks ago I tossed the bottle on my bed with the clothes that I had chosen to wear and went to take my shower. When I got out of the shower and went into my bedroom, Punkin, my orange tabby, was lying on my bed looking smug and the mini of Bottega Veneta was nowhere to be found. Someone thought it was a toy. I shouldn’t have tossed it.
With a name like Punkin, I couldn’t be mad ????Those hidden items usually show up eventually – I go around with a little flashlight looking under appliances and furniture for my kitties’ sparkle balls. Now they come along and “help” me look.
Mine love it when I get out the magic wand (yardstick) and flashlight. Makes it hard to actually see anything under the furniture with floofy ginger butt in my face. Sometimes it does take a surprisingly long time for missing doodads to resurface.
These stories are adorable.
Once, I was flying from my home in California, where my kittens live with my boyfriend, to France. When I got here, I discovered that my girl-kitten, Mischief, had put her little mouse toy in my shoe. I think it’s because she worried that I get lonely out here in a foreign country and wanted to make sure I had a toy.
Slept in today and wearing the dry down of Sarrasins. I was going to reapply after my shower but someone mentioned Frapin 1270 and I haven’t worn that in a while. I might have to go to Google Fight to decide for me.
My samples of Dilettante arrived yesterday yay! so that’s what I’m wearing. Or rather … was wearing? On my skin it started off with a nice blast of astringent petitgrain, then smoothly cruised into a lightly indolic orange blossom, and then poof! gone in a couple of hours. It was lovely while it lasted. However, I will prevail! and have now performed the hajusuuri maneuver and added four sprays on top of the previous two.
The hajusuuri maneuver. Love it.
I’m not feeling well today (perfect timing with a vacation coming up in two days, yay!), but Marni Spice is doing an excellent job keeping me comfortable and happy.
Oh no! I hope you feel better.
Most importantly, I’m committing to being better by Saturday!
For selfish reasons, I hope you are 😉 But no worries if you’re not up to it.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and a happy, healthy vaca!
I hope you feel better really soon!
You may need to take a sick day or two.
Hope you are feeling better in time for your vakay!
Happy Birthday, Sir Patrick! Make it so!
It’s Verbena Week for me. Monday was L’Occitane Citrus Verbena, Tuesday was L’Occitane regular Verbena (I prefer the Citrus version, good thing that, since I have a ginormous 5oz bottle of it). Today is Heeley Verveine d’Eugene which I should get a FB of someday….
Verbena is helping me cope with the heat this week too.
Hola! I am checking in from beautiful and sunny Cadiz, Spain, our first port stop! We took an impromptu Hop On Hop Off tour to get an overview and joined the “complimentary” walking tour in the afternoon. Normally, when we are close to the ship we would go back, have lunch then go back out again; however, we opted to experience hot chocolate with churros (too greasy) and also had a very tasty empanada with bacon, cheese and dates (yummm).
Yesterday was our first of two formal nights where we’re supposed to dine in our finery. Right before the dinner, we participated in a BINGO session. I was stressed out because the host was so slow that I finally had to tell her to stop with the chit chat and mive on because a bunch of us (including perfect strangers) had a 5:30 seating and she was cutting into our prep time (don’t be horrified, I said it politely). Heh, I won one of the games and got a very modest sum which will go to a different kitty.
On the steps front, I am up to 89,000 steps as of yesterday and I am sure I will top 100,000 today. I do want to step it up more at every opportunity and I found that shimmying is very edfective!
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant. SOTE will be Chanel No.5 EDT.
‘Til the next time…. have a great next few days!
Churros are very greasy, shockingly so the first time I tried them. But then they grew on me and I miss them. I usually have them just once on any visit to Spain, but that’s also because I have to avoid sugar and few places do a sugar-free chocolate.
You go, girl! And you smell perfect while you are stepping!
Please send video of you shimmying! Congrats on your win.
Hey Stranger!! So glad the vacation is underway. Hope you enjoy every minute. Please post when you can so that I can travel along with you!!
Sounds wonderful, enjoy. (I’m jealous)
ELDO Rossy de Palma today. I bought this at Scent Bar when I was in LA last year during my mother’s illness, and wearing it today really brought back the memory of that time, not in a bad way, but I haven’t really had that wash of emotion wearing it since then until today. It’s name Eau de Protection, seems fitting right now.
It is SO GOOD. It might actually be my favourite rose ever. It’s so bright and fresh, and then so alluringly dark and moody.
You smell great. This is the only one of the two ELDOs I like. Might be getting a FB
Gorgeous!
You smell great! Rossy is one of my favorites.
Still working through my latest batch of samples so SOTD is Zoologist Bat. This is truly a bizarre thing; the first thing I smelled was a big ol’ whiff of straight up dirt, then the fruit. It’s like the stewed fruit I associate with Amouage Sunshine but on the strangest backdrop. The fresh dirt has mellowed to spicey dirt. This one is going to be a fun ride but I just can’t imagine wearing this to an office or something!
Is not it? I just love it, but, like you, would not be wearing it around people I care or depend on 🙂 I find that all Zoologist I tried have a dose of funk (well, they ARE named after animals…) but the heaviest is the Beaver, which takes the honorable second place after Secretions Manifiques as the Most Revolting Fragrance To Me, and in Bat, I can actually have fun with it!
As the day has gone on, I have really enjoyed this and will try out the others but that does give me pause! Ha! ????
SOTD: Le Male Terrible (JPG). This version isn’t nearly the sillage monster that the original is. 🙂
Le Male (less) Terrible.
Slumberhouse Kisti. I have not smelled a badly made Slumberhouse yet.
How do you find it? Even a tiny dab seemed lovely but overwhelming to me. I felt as if I’d fallen into a vat of Southern Comfort!
I think I overspeayed. Co-workers sitting next to me, could smell it at a distance of 3 feet (2 hours after spraying). They told me I smell nice, but I am surprised at its silage.
Remember how I went crazy and ordered three back-up bottles of l’Occitane huile de soin Arlésienne just in case they stopped making them, and then you all told me about how oil goes rancid? I guess I don’t need to worry about that anymore 🙁 Two of the three bottles shattered in transit. On the upside, the cardboard box everything came in smells spectacular. Wonder if they’ll replace the shattered bottles. Wonder how to maximize on the remaining scent in the box.
Wearing Chloé today, which is significantly nicer than Love, Chloé. A lovely rosy floral instead of a wall of sugar.
Tell them that two of the boxes shattered. See how they intend to correct it. If they won’t do squat, take it up with your credit card and get your money back. Sorry about your shattered bottles. Hopefully, they will send you new bottles at no extra cost.
Those plastic bottles are brittle. I had a bottle of the shower cream that I dropped in the shower and it cracked and leaked out. So I’ve transferred the contents if the new bottle into amore durable one, because how often do I drop something in the shower? Often.
I’d take a picture and email them. Can’t hurt to try…
Maybe fold the box as flat as possible and tuck it into a closet?
Continuing my catch-up on Blooms subscription pack for, erm, May. (How am I two months behind already?).
SOTD is “Sea Foam” from Art de Parfum.
Top: Bergamot, sea notes, laurel, lemon, frankincense.
Mid: Gaiac wood, seaweed, fig leaf
Base: Driftwood, patchouli, vetiver, sea salt and sandalwood.
I can’t make up my mind about this one. Occasionally I catch a whiff of something interesting; at other times, the most banal generic mens’ fresh thing peeps out. Mostly it sits near my skin and does nothing – never a recommendation in my book.
Anyway, I may know little about scents, but I know the difference between “I would pay any price for..” and “I can’t make my mind up about…” so this sample is not going to lead to anything.
Happy Hump Day Everyone.
My SOTD is Blackberry & Bay by Jo Malone. This is a fantastic fruity scent for the season.
That is so nice – and you have reminded me to decide if I should get a small amount.
One of my favorites!
As a tribute to Jean Luc Picard, I wanted to wear an earl grey tea scent. However, I don’t have one so I’m wearing Bulgari’s Au The Bleu. It’s lovely, but I need to sample it as a spray – I received a scented wipe in this scent as part of a Neiman Marcus gift with purchase, and the scent is fleeing my skin extremely quickly. It sure was one classy baby wipe, however.
I only tried Thé Bleu last Sunday, and I really like it. Vert is still at the top of my Bvlgari teas, but Rouge and Bleu are on equal 2nd.
Every place I’ve seen it, the tester has been drained. As far as I can tell from sniffing the nozzle it’s a very nice scent, so I look forward to hearing how it works for you if you find a sample.
Wearing Rue Cambon today…happy hump day!
Always lovely.
Hello everyone! my SOTD is Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil. One of my favorite summer scents. Fresh, clean, green, refreshing. I love it.
An excellent summer staple; can’t go wrong with it.
I gave a bottle away and now regret it 🙁
My samples from Auphorie arrived this morning, so I spritzed all 4 of them in alphabetical order up my arm. I was thinking that I would be at home alone this afternoon, but then remembered the Bell repair person is going to be here in a half hour or so. I smell lovely but confused.
I forgot that I ordered those. How long did it take for you to get them? I think I ordered my samples early June.
Apparently I ordered June 7, the order was mailed June 14th and it arrived here today. So you should be getting them soon, I would think.
Thanks! Looks like I also ordered on the 7th and it was shipped on the 9th. How are you liking them, so far?
Unfortunately I couldn’t get the Miyako sprayer to function properly, but the Eternal Voyage is gorgeous. Regal Secret starts out as pretty much just pineapple juice on my skin, but it’s starting to grow on me. I ordered Shambala yesterday too.
Box of Eels today. I had a craving for it this morning.
It’s also Harrison Ford’s Birthday today. Happy birthday guys! 🙂
SOTD: Fragonard’s Riviera, Riviera
My personal take on a vacation scent since I bought it on my first visit to the south of France. One of my summer faves!
Heure Exquise over the solid of Pacifica French Lilac. Not sure I can smell much now but they were nice earlier today.
Cologne Du 68 is one of my favorite Guerlains, I love it so much! I don’t understand why it doesn’t get much love especially at that wonderful price! Oh well, more back-up bottles for me!
Off to a day in the city (Seattle) wearing Lyric Extrait which blooms in good weather.
Another hot and steamy day in my non-air-conditioned library. Wearing Jo Malone Geranium & Verbena and a white cotton dress. Please send lemonade.
You smell gorgeous!
White cotton dress, perfect. Virtual lemonade, coming up (or would you prefer a gin and lime?)…
Scents of the Day = Guerlain Terracotta plus occasional cooling spritzes from a decant of Chanel Eau de Cologne. I think I need a bottle of Eau de Guerlain for layering purposes. Cologne du 68 is fabulous IMHO.
Hurrah and happy birthday to Patrick Stewart!
I once followed Sir Patrick up the aisle at a Broadway show during intermission. We were both headed to the lounge area of the theater as the curtain went down and the lights went up. I didn’t realize who he was until he was cut off by someone who had recognized him. He very nimbly went around that person, smiling the entire time, without stopping or saying a word. He cut a clear trail through the crowd, so I kept following him to the Ladies and Gents. We miraculously arrived there before there was a queue on the ladies’ side. Whew.
Hilariously (for me), we emerged from our ablutions at the same moment. He smiled and nodded, then took off through the crowd again. I gratefully followed in his wake and made it back to my seat in record time despite the sold-out, packed theater. Mr. Stewart has some mad crowd-surfing skillz. Or perhaps the NYC/Broadway crowd was very low-key about celebrity encounters. 🙂
A year or more later I saw Donna Murphy in Star Trek: Insurrection and had a flashback to that moment at the play. I smiled while thinking Captain Picard was likely at the theater to see his movie colleague perform as Anna in the King and I. And she was breathtaking. I cried my eyes out at the end. It was almost as heart-wrenching as my first time at Les Misérables. That one made me sob until I couldn’t see straight. Oh, to be so young and starry-eyed again.
Robin, I’m sure you smell great. I have *got* to try Cologne du 68! For a fan of the house, it’s very frustrating that my local Guerlain access is virtually non-existent.
Captain Picard! Now I know why I picked my bergamot and orris body spray for today’s SOTD: Earl Grey! Awesome.
Yes, this seems to be one of the toughest lines to access.
I’m camping, pending the closing on our house. It’s so hot and humid I keep wondering if I’ll ever be dry again. Now inside a cafe with A/C that heat seems a world away.
Brought two sample spray bottles of Sycomore; once back in the heat I plan to quickly drain one.
Hot and muggy down here in the southeast for sure! But no rain in sight – odd that is it so sweltering yet our garden and flowers are drying right up. We can’t water them enough these days.
I’m trying to stay refreshed with SOTD Lemon in Zest, By Kilian.
I think I might have to have a FB of this one – birthday is coming up so perfect time to indulge!
That was the only one of my new Kilian samples I liked, but I liked it a lot.
I’m wearing Ostara today. I’ve been on the phone getting my homeowners insurance finalized and getting flood insurance set up. If all keeps going according to plan, I close on my house August 2. 😀
Not many more sleeps, then. So exciting.
It is exciting. I’m not looking forward to the actual packing and moving part (moving my cats particularly.. one of them is very difficult when it comes to this stuff), but it will be nice when it’s all done.
SOTD is YSL’s In Love Again. I forget just how vivacious and lively this one is, and am so glad I have a bottle. It’s really great stuff yet not so loud that I can’t wear it on a very humid summer day.
Oh, and thanks for the suggestions to pick up a used bottle of No. 5, everyone! I’m now the proud owner of a 70% full 3.4 oz bottle of edp from at least three years ago and it smells fantastic! So happy! I may have paid a bit much for it (around $50) but I wanted to be sure I grabbed one pre-reformulation, and it’s still a lot cheaper than a new bottle and I didn’t have to worry about it being a counterfit or some such. 😉
Yay! 🙂
You smell great! I almost reached for that this morning as well, but got sidetracked and ended up unscented 🙁 Congrats on the No. 5, too. I don’t think $50 sounds too heinous.
Wearing PdE Wazamba today. It’s surprising to me how well so many incense scents do in hot weather.
You’re right! I’m wearing the last drops of Rundholz 03.Apr.1968 as a SOTE and it’s doing very nicely indeed. :^)
Wearing Terre d’Hermes. I love this scent. Now that i have cleared my system of all traces of sugary musk I can start replenishing with a diet of quality ingredients…just enough citrus to cleanse the palate and a boost of healthy minerals. Thank you Jean-Claude!
I finally found your vow for this week in last week’s comments. Terre d’Hermès is wonderful.
It’s cold, wet and a bit blustery here, as though the weather thinks it should really be doing a storm but can’t quite be bothered. Very ho hum winter weather, and my mood matches it, but thank goodness, I’ve slept off that massive exhaustion. I hope all yesterday’s other tired NS-Tites are feeling better too. I’m wearing one of my new By Kilian perfumes: Back to Black, rich honeyed marshmallows with more rich honeyed marshmallows. I don’t need or want character and backbone in my perfumes everyday, and today it’s working perfectly well that my perfume is sweet entirely invertebrate.
Be well in the heat, all of us up in TOH: Kanuka, Gaynor, I hear the weather where you are is atrocious. Take great care.
It was a wild night, but we’ve woken up to a calm morning. I see some heavy clouds to,the north heading our way – it’s definitely the depths of winter here at the moment.
Trying to make summer where there isn’t much by digging into my Manoumalia sample. I took someone here’s suggestion and broke a 6-month no-buy by going over to the Posh Peasant farewell sale, and attempting to buy a little decant of this and 2 other things… The receipt I was emailed was lower than what the website said by a third so I can only guess that one of my decants is already sold out?
Testing Le Jardin de Monsieur Li in today’s grey muggies.
SOTD = Kerbside Violet + Infusion d’Iris = great combo for the heat!
<3 Patrick Stewart 🙂
Hot and humid here, decided to try out Jubilation XXV since hey, it gets hot in Oman! Works just fine.
It’s very hot and humid today, I couldn’t wear anything else then one of my summer favorites AG Eau d’Hadrien.
