It's Tuesday, and it's World Blood Donor Day. In the US, it's Flag Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing ☮ by Kenzo Vintage Edition.
Reminder: on 6/17, wear a fragrance by Kenzo, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I have only one Kenzo fragrance (Jungle l’Elephant) so I’m saving it for Friday, if its not too hot that day. SOTD is SSS Yin & Ylang.
Could well be too hot for that one!
Nice! I have the sample in my desk at work and gave it a whirl yesterday at the end of the day…very sweet and pretty…..
Yin & Ylang is so nice !
Exactly my situation – I’ve only got Kenzo Jungle Elephant too! We’ll be scent twins n Friday. At least this time I don’t have to think about what to choose.
With the sad state of current events finally hitting me I am channeling the positive energies of my yoga teacher who epitomizes peace, tolerance and loving-kindness by wearing her absolute favorite note. I am head to toe in LAVENDER (mals and all other lavender -phobic NSTers STOP READING NOW)
-Inland Fog Lavender bar soap and Lavender shampoo and body wash
-My own homemade lavender/ tea tree deodorant
-A facial serum I made comprised of argan oil, hylauronic acid, essential oils of lavender, patchouli and frankincense
-A body lotion comprised of Alba Bontanicals unscented lotion with lavender, peppermint and a drop of eucalyptus essential oils
– 100% Pure brand Lavender handcream
– Alba Botanicals Lavender sunscreen
-an essential oil perfume made of lavender, vanilla , Egyptian musk, and China musk
I am also carrying with me my own version of 4711 which I made with a Turkish lemon alcohol blended with the essential oils of lavender, rosemary, patchouli, cedarwood, lemongrass and eucalyptus …I basically use this as a hand sanitizer, bug repellent and pick me up cologne spray.
I have decided that to honor those who have passed recently I am going to wear for the rest of this week some of my fragrances that represent lighthearted happiness to me (since I also own no Kenzo).
Really hope y’all have a peaceful Tuesday……and please be grateful for your small blessings 🙂
You smell serene and your skin is glowing. Thanks for the inspiration.
I feel serene but not so sure if my skin is glowing :)….
Nice tribute and cool stuff you’ve made.
Thank you….always fun to experiment!
How do you make that serum with argan? Peace to all.
I am very bad at reciping what I make…I basically “eyeball” everything…how I made the serum is I combined argan oil, hyalauronic acid (bought from Amazon) and added drops of lavender essential oil, patchouli essential oil and frankincense essential oil (the particular essential oils that I used are very good for mature skin)….
Lovely smells, lovely thoughts. Thanks for sharing.
🙂
Peaceful day to you !
Right back at you, lovestosmellgodd!
Ack! my old fingers are not co-operating……
that would be “lovestosmellgood”
Great ideas, cm! I’ll make a point of wearing one of my favorite lavenders soon, such as BK Straight to Heaven, PdN Pour Homme, or Caron Troisieme Homme.
Love the BK one! And have been meaning to try the Caron!
and , by the way, straight up lavender essential oil works for instant calming too 🙂 !!!
Oh, you go ahead and indulge in your lavender! I’m over here out of nose-shot, so I won’t be getting a monster headache. 🙂
LOL! I TOLD you not to read !!!! 🙂
Just reading rather than participating at the moment, but just a quick comment to say how much i’m enjoying reading about your creations 🙂
Thank you, Mariann!
It is a lavender day for me too.
And you must smell great! I have wanted to try the Caldey Island for a while now….the price is great too !!!
Just be aware it has been reformulated since the Guide – I was disappointed when I got a bottle and Luca Turin shuns it now. I would love to have had the old version.
Not sure of the vintage of my sample– but I would be happy to buy your bottle!
What a good idea to pay tribute through scent! And you smell lovely in your lavender.
Thank you!
First comment after reading avidly since September. I love this site – it is an extremely warm and knowledgeable haven. I just lost my mother-in-law, and one thing that was extremely important to her was showing gratitude, so I wanted to say thank you to everyone for creating such a safe and beautiful (and wonderfully scented) community. My scent of the day is Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt – it’s very comforting, and it’s also the only perfume I grabbed when I left for the death/ funeral. To be honest, I wish I was wearing something else. Ideal scent of the day: Hiris.
Welcome! and you smell lovely….I have a travel spray of that one and I find it comforting too….
Welcome Sistine! So glad you joined us and feel safe in doing so.
I am so sorry for your loss. She sounds like a remarkable woman.
I hope that Wood Sage and Sea Salt continues providing as much comfort as possible, and I hope that spending time here will provide the same.
Sorry for the loss of your mother in law.
You are right: JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt is a very comforting scent .
So sorry about your mother in law! Glad you have a comforting fragrance with you, even if it isn’t Hiris.
Hi Sistine! I’m sorry for your loss. Thanks for the gratitude reminder. Especially important these days. Sometimes the most we can do is just appreciate what we do have.
Welcome. So sorry for your loss. Your mother-in-law must have been very special to have influenced her daughter- in- law in such a positive way. I hope you can use your scent memories to celebrate the warmth you shared.
Welcome, sistine! My condolences on the loss of your mother-in-law, and I’m so happy that you have found a safe haven here. Thank you for sharing your story.
Both Hiris and Wood Sage and Sea Salt are wonderful. Condolences on your loss. It takes a special person to impart the lesson that it is important to be grateful. Hope we hear more from you in the future!
I’m very sorry for your loss, but glad you decided to join us.
Welcome, and thanks for your kind words. Good to have you on board! Sorry for your loss.
Welcome, and sincere condolences of the loss of your MIL. Your continuation of her legacy of gratitude is poignant and reminds me of my own MIL, who passed many years ago. An unremarkable woman by many standards, she taught me how to be a ‘MIL’ long before I became one by her unflagging support of me as a ‘daughter’ even after my divorce from her son and by her (lack of) words even when she didn’t always agree with my choices. She’d never have guessed how often she is with me in spirit and guides me in my love for the daughter I was blessed with when my son married. Wishing you comfort and peace!
This is the only site where I’ve ever even been tempted to comment, for just the reasons you name. Welcome!
Thats a favorite too and the one that led me to this community. Welcome!
Glad you piped up. Very sorry about your MiL. This is a great place for sharing the rivers and valleys of life through our shared passion for fragrance.
Hello, Sistine! Glad you’re here!
My sympathies on the loss of your mother-in-law. Wishing you comfort and healing.
Welcome, this is a wonderful place. I’m sorry to read about ylur mothef in law.
Welcome! I hope the feeling of community will ease the loss of your mother-in-law. My condolences.
So sorry for your loss. This is a phenomenal community with such supportive people. And, we are the best smelling people in the world (I’m probably a bit bias). Wood Sage and Sea Salt is a very comforting scent…but I am a bit bias when it comes to Jo Malone fragrances as well.
Glad you came out of lurkdom. I am so sorry for your loss.
Yves Rocher’s Rose Oud today. Deep, dark wine-like rose opening with a dose of the animalic, drying down softer and sweeter. I think they’ve done a really good job on this one.
Ooooh – I must look into this. I haven’t explored any of the Yves Rocher line. Anything else I should try?
Cuir Vétiver is quite nice, too. That and Rose Oud are my two favorites of theirs.
So many votes for Cuir Vétiver from yesterday and today! Clearly I need to check this out. 🙂 Thank you!
Oh do, it’s gorgeous. A bit like Vetiver Tonka but good in its own right and an absolute bargain.
I would definitely start with the Secrets d’Essences line (Neroli and Voile d’Ambre are particularly good as well as this one). I concur with Koyel above about the Vetiver, and would add Guiaic Wood and Juniper.
You have helped me form a shopping list…though whether or not I can indulge and order it anytime soon remains to be seen. But thank you for telling me what to look for!
I think you mentioned plummy roses yesterday, and I was wondering if you have ever sniffed Estee Lauder Sensuous Noir?
I haven’t, but I wouldn’t have guessed that was a plummy rose – interesting! I often find myself checking on Fragrantica first to see if something appeals to me, and though there is no plum listed and the rose seems to be far down on the list of notes many people get from it, it’s showing that it’s been compared to Feminite du Bois – one of my favorites. Might have to find a bottle to sniff…
Thanks for the rec!
I wouldn’t classify it as a plummy rose since there are a lot of other notes blended in with the plum and floral notes. Strange that Fragrantica does not list plum in the notes since my nose picks it up almost immediately. Elisa corroborates the plum in her review at BdJ.
Like Feminite du Bois, it features woodsy notes pretty prominently, although Sensuous Noir feels richer and thus less versatile in comparison. It feels rather baroque so probably not a summer scent, but if you like rich plum fragrances then I would definitely recommend a sniff. Unlike FdB, you can easily find it behind most Estee Lauder counters in Macy’s.
I third Cuir Vetiver and for summer, Eau des Vahines is a nice, fun scent. If you like lilacs in perfume, Lilas Mauve is worth trying as well.
I wish I liked coconut, but sadly I do not, so Eau des Vahines may be out for me. But I’d definitely like to explore Lilac more – on the list. Thank you!
Sounds really nice! Rose and oud, both great notes.
SL Fourreau Noir. Black licorice lavender. Gorgeous.
OMG, sounds delicious! Will have to seek a sample of this… 🙂
That DOES sound really good!!! Nice to see lavender get some love today!
Yes! One of my bell jars!
Love the image – thank you Robin.
Like ChocolateMarzipan, I’m in lavender today – Gris Clair, the first Serge Lutens scent I ever had the opportunity to smell. I was visiting a friend in Princeton in 2008 and discovered that a shop carried the line, which to that point, I’d only read about in Perfumes: The Guide. This is the one that stood out for me as being unlike anything else I’d ever smelled, and I was hooked. Didn’t get a bottle of it until years later, but it still gives me that “wow” feeling – expansive and meditative. So good.
We are scent cousins! Good to be in a meditative mood 🙂 !!!
You put so much more thought into yours though – there was a positive intention behind every product you applied! Very inspiring.
I have a great mentor…my yoga teacher…and the smell of lavender always reminds me of her 🙂 !!
Very nice! Maybe we should have a lavender week or scents that give you peace as a community project!?
What do you think Robin?
Oh I love this idea!!!!
Both good ideas, adding to list!
YAY!
I wore Gris Clair yesterady for the first time in ages – does that make us asynchronous scent twins?!
I’ve decided it does. 🙂
Oh! I can do Kenzo Amour. The rice pudding note is the kind of comfort we all need right now.
I drove to the Baltimore aquarium yesterday for a hit of my favorite smell in the world, the manta ray tank. But to my horror, the manta rays have been relocated to make room for a Finding Dory-themed exhibit. Nothing against Dory, but it just didn’t smell the same.
What does the manta ray tank smell like?
Warm and salty. Different than actual ocean water. Hard to describe! I bet Christopher Brosius could recreate it, though!
I loved the manta ray tank! And have NO memory of what it smelled like, except that the whole facility smelled like aquarium.
All I have is a small decant of Kenzo Amour as well, so that will be it for Friday. I regret getting rid of my Kenzo Flower Elixir. 🙁
What perfume would a manta ray wear? Sel de Marin is my vote. ????
Ha! Mine too!
Aqua di Sala from Profumum Roma perhaps??
Manta rays are awesome! There’s a smaller aquarium near my house that lets you pet them. If you stick your hand in the water they come up and butt up against it, like my dog does when she wants petting. So cute! Never noticed a smell, though. What does it smell like?
WHAT? they moved the manta rays? Those are my favorite. Haven’t been to the Baltimore aquarium in too long.
Yikes!!! Thanks for the heads up. I work in downtown Baltimore and the aquarium is one of my favorite places to go, so at least I know what to expect next time I visit. I love manta rays and also remember petting them at the Monterey Bay Aquarium back in the 90s when I visited West Coast for the first time.
Oh bummer! I enjoyed watching the manta rays very much the last time I went to the Baltimore Aquarium.
SOTD is Panorama which is a green sitting in a fresh salad scent.
It’s lasting longer than I expected and it is bright and refreshing. Later I plan to dig out the Gris Clair. Lavender is calling 🙂
Lavender lovers unite 🙂 !!! (you smell great in Panorama too though!)
You smell great. I think Panorama is one of the most interesting green scents out there, an emerald green.
I love that description!
I love love love green notes in perfumes and have been meaning to try this one —now I definitely have to get my hands on it after reading you are green are sitting in a fresh salad. I am green with envy…lol…I am sure you smell lovely!
MDCI La Belle Helene today, another comfort scent since it’s cool enough. I’m trying to use up my decants in plastic atomizers. The first spray was a bit sour, but now it’s just a delicious pear tart.
I am on a similar mission! In theory. In practice, I pick up my plastic atomizers, read the label, and then go ahead with whatever I wanted in the first place 🙁
That happens to me, too, but I just threw out a couple that smelled sour and slightly fishy, so I’m trying to use the one’s I really like.
You smell elegant today!
Thank you????
Miller Harris Geranium Bourbon is my SOTD
Just saw that the wedding happened this weekend – congratulations to the whole family! So happy for you.
Did you wear a particular scent?
Good morning and thanks!
I wore Prada Candy Florale all day. I started with it early in the morning, and my intent was to change to something else for the evening. The lemon and caramel were so soothing, that I put some more on after my hair and makeup were finished.
How lovely!
I think I will go with Miller Harris Figue Amère today. Not a fig fan per se but this one smells like chocolate on me.
Chocolate covered fig perhaps?
Yes, with a bit of coconut on top. 🙂
Today’s Guerlain is “L’homme Ideal” in EDT. I like how this is going, with pepper and almond (occasionally smells of cherry) . Like many things I have tried, it could stand being stronger – EDP would be good.
They have an EDP of that one now!!
http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Guerlain/L-Homme-Ideal-Eau-de-Parfum-37735.html
I’ll look out for it in decanters and duty frees. :^)
In providence co Love in a Mist
Happy Tuesday beautiful people
OOOOHH!!! The new one!!!! How are you getting on with it? let us know about longevity!
I will keep your posted!
You smell lovely. Do you like it? I picked up a sample of it in Providence and liked it then. The top note is actual “love-in-a-mist flower”.
I am not familiar with this flower. How did you find it?
It smells like lilacs to me
Oh that is good to know….I happen to love lilac notes 🙂 !!!
I was lucky enough to chat with Charna Ethier, the
creator of the line, when I went there. I was trying to pick out the flowers, but she said that is the predominant flower, which was a new one to me. I thought there was narcissus, but it’s also got mimosa, pink peppercorn, sandalwood , and sweet clover.
I do get some of those notes, though nothing really stands out to me, its a nice blend for a natural perfume.
I ordered some samples and I am excited to give them a try.
Anything you recommend?
You would have to try the Osmanthus Oolong ( don’t drink it 😉 ). The osmanthus note is similar to the one in Miyako. If I recall, Charna has a sweet spot for that one, Rose Boheme, and Provanilla. I really like Branch and Vine and Cocoa Tuberose.
WendySue-
like lovestosmellgood I am also interested in your recommendations for Providence Perfume Co……have you tried their oil blends? floral teas?
I was so hoping to spend a leisurely time at the lovely new shop but my husband got mixed up about the time our train was departing, and I did not explore everything else. In the future, I will keep all itineraries in my calendar!
I have had the Earl Grey and Lavender and the Violetta teas at Arielle Shoshanna during the various events I’ve attended at Ari’s wonderful shop. The teas are carried there.
Thank you WendySue! the samples and the teas are on the very top of my “to buy” list….
I have never seen or smelled this flower IRL (except tiny plants), but you will find it in most flower seed catalogs.
I just cannot spend more than a few minutes thinking about Orlando. It just makes me so furious and upset and makes me want to type a string of curse words into this comment box. As an American living in a country that doesn’t allow people to carry guns without reason, I don’t know what to tell my French friends and colleagues when they ask me why Americans think that’s an acceptable way to live. Between the endless mass shootings and Trump’s inexplicable rise….
My blood pressure is soaring. I’m going to calm down and tell you that I am wearing Chanel No. 19 in order to support me as I get my blood drawn for a medical visit. I loathe the idea of a needle breaking what is supposed to be a nice, intact organ and leaching me of the fluid that keeps me lubricated and oxygenated. I like No. 19, but not as ferociously as most of you seem to.
Hugs. This is probably one of the hardest things about moving back to the U.S. for me. It’s pretty nice living in a place where you can walk around basically without fear of this ever happening. (As for Trump, well, FR was there first on that one.)
Guys, I so feel your pain. Hard as it is though, we are not going to talk about gun control or Trump here. Trust me, that’s as hard for me as it is for anyone else, but it really does work out better that way.
I agree on all counts, though I understand how hard it is for everyone. I really, really understand where you’re all coming from, and I know it’s all that many of us can think about. Still, if we’re able to preserve NST as a kind of internet sanctuary, free of political discussion, it may ultimately make it easier for us all to cope with what goes on in the outside world. And reconnect with the joy of life, which is what perfume is all about.
Agreed!
This is a perfume sanctuary ☺️
Hope your draw went ok. As for current events, we have to have faith that human kindness will always (eventually) prevail. As for No. 19, it is an up and down proposition for me, as I think for others. Hope it was kind to you today. 🙂
One day a grandson asked his grandfather, “Why is it that mankind can perform such acts of great kindness, charity and love, and yet also be evil and hurt their fellow humans with such depravity and terror?” The grandfather took a deep sigh and said “Grandson, you have to understand that deep in the heart of every man is a constant battle between two wolves – one wolf representing good, and the other representing evil.” So the child asked, “well grandfather, which wolf wins the battle?” And the grandfather responded, “The one which is fed the most.”
While there are those who in the world who elect to feed the beast of evil; spritzing my perfume, sharing in the joy with fellow perfume lovers, sanctuary in the beauty of the flowers in my garden, cooking meals for those I love, random acts of kindness to strangers, furry pets with my 2 adorable felines, and making new friends on NST…..this me is feeding the beast of good!
Beautifully put!
Hear hear!
Wow. That made me well up a bit. Beautiful, and sad.
Beautifully eloquent.
Chilly here again today, so I broke out the Ford Violet Blonde for its warmth.
I’m in the lingering traces of CSP Amour de Cacao and Fresh Cream, which I wore to bed last night.
Today I think I’ll go with Hiris, which will partner beautifully with my casual purple slub knit maxi dress. I’m generally not into blingy things, but last month I bought a pair of beautiful gladiator type sandals that are loaded with pale rose gold crystals. Pretty sure they can be seen from space. T-Rex is sporting a mouthful of sparkling white teeth wrapped around a black Kong toy ????
Today’s photo and “donor day” are perfectly timed. Wishing everyone a day filled with peace, joy, and love. Thanks to all who make this space so warm and inviting. All my freebiemeet packages are on their way to new homes and I’m happy that there are 5 people who are anticipating an arrival of a package????
Right back at you , Deva! (and you smell yummy!)
You sound perfectly outfitted – chic and comfortable. So excited for packages, thank you! 🙂
You smell and look amazing today. I love the description of your sandals.
It is fun to send out packages. I enjoy sending them just as much as receiving.
NARCISO eau de toilette
Mona di Orio Tubereuse
With the world and weather feeling so topsy turvy, I just didn’t know what to wear! At random I picked vintage Dior Eau Svelte; a 90’s concoction that makes me think of my mom who lives far away. Have a great day, everyone!
That really is a lovely scent. I remember going back and forth about buying it. I probably should have.
I took advantage of the Smell Bent garage sale and picked up several discontinued scents. Among them is Gimel a Break, which is described as a honeyed vetiver. I am very fond of honey and of vetiver scents, so this is right up my alley. It is interesting because it is a perfume oil. I’ll have to compare it to the staying power of their regular edts.
That sounds fantastic! I love both honey and Vetiver. Let us know how it works for you after you have worn it a bit. Not that I’m planning on buying it. Nope. I’m on a No Buy (have to keep reminding myself of that fact!).
I sampled Smell Bent’s Prairie Nymph over the weekend and it made me weak in the knees on impact! Honey and carnations, really beautifully balanced between the sweetness and spice of the two.
Oh I agree about Prairie Nymph. It is definitely full bottle worthy. I wish the sale had included existing scents instead of discontinued ones. I would have picked up Prairie Nymph in a heartbeat. Of course their regular prices are totally reasonable. I just have a constitutional problem paying full price on anything.
I just lie to myself by imagining if I buy something inexpensive, it will scratch the itch and prevent me from indulging in something more expensive. 😉
Gimel a Break is one of my longest lasting fragrances! I was so happy with the garage sale, as I had fallen in love with a sample and despaired of ever getting my hands on more. I don’t get much vetiver from it but I love it just the same.
In bed with a sudden, severe head cold, thanks to my traveling husband. Tried to get comfortable with some scented talc –
Fenjal, so old it might have lost it’s scent – but I surely can’t smell a thing. Sniff intensely for me, friends.
Hope you feel better soon.
Sorry about the cold, hopefully he is making it up to you. Stay hydrated, and rest well!
Hope it doesn’t hang around too long!
Oh, sorry you’re feeling bad! Rest, drink lots of hot tea with lemon and honey (and maybe a shot of something stronger) and use this down time to maybe do a little online shopping…? Just saying????
Oooh, believe it or not I didn’t think of that. I broke out the essential oils, trying a combination of lavender, bay laurel, may chang and ravensara. Not yummy, but appropriately medicinal. Thanks for the kind comments, guys.
eucalyptus e.o. is excellent too….
Feel better…
and I finally have the chance to reply to your question from several days ago…
http://www.whitelotusaromatics.com/product/rhododendron-leaf-essential-oil
When you add tangerine essential oil it creates a fresh pineapple accord that is not too sweet…..
Get well soon!
Feel better!
Hope you feel better soon!
Ach awful. Hope it’s better soon!
Aw, feel better soon. We missed you at the Eris event – stay tuned for the next meet-up announcement! 🙂
Sending comforting get well soon wishes.
Feel better soon. Make sure your husband puts the next meetup in his travel calendar.
Oh ick! Summer colds are THE worst. Hope it passes quickly.
Vintage Arpege which sadly faded within 2 hours. Luckily, I put off cleaning out my purse, so I’m sure there’s some samples kicking around the bottom. Wish me luck ????
Good luck! I bet your purse smells amazing 😉
I have several purses and they smell totally different depending on the season! I’m still using my “spring” purse and it smells like Norell:)
Enjoy the treasure hunt!
I found something! X marks the spot! (X = Sarah Jessica Parker Covet and “the spot” being my happy wrists)
I found vintage Arpege in an antiques store recently. It doesn’t last for me either but it is pretty.
What’s up with that, I wonder? I seem to recall mine having staying power the last time I wore it… but I admit that was a year ago. Does Arpege neutralize in the bottle?
Surprising for a vintage. Before I read your comment, I thought that the juice was just old and had no staying power.
I’m still not sure if mine is off or not.
I agree, VERY surprising. Other vintage frags I own have deepened & concentrated with time… why, Arpege, why?
I have a vitage extrait that doesn’t last either.
Wow! Now that makes three of us… and you know what they say: “once is an accident, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action”. I think Arpege is playing with our heads!
????
I am wearing Chanel 1932 . I don’t smell it myself but I am getting compliments again for this one.
I really like 1932.
Which concentration do you prefer? Mine is the edt, I am curious about the extrait.
Sitting at Secretary of State, waiting to get my car tags. Sotd is Ed Hardy Love and Luck. Hope it works:)
Fingers crossed!
Safran Troublant spritzed very freely. I think this will be a week of sweet, comforting scents.
I hear that – sometimes we need all the comfort we can get!
Love the image of the day and your scent choice, Robin.
I’m in Angel Muse that I bought yesterday and I really like it. Seems to be OK for the office, too.
Yes, I agree the image and scent are perfect.
Keep rocking the Muse, Annikky!
Glad you guys like it! I’m realizing that I could keep doing Pantone forever — there is a color for anything & everything. But I’ll move on next week…
SOTD: Lime, Gardenia, and Benzoin (my favorite so far of the Dame line).
I’m in a wedding (bridesmaid) at the end of next month, and I’m trying to think which perfumes to bring. It’s in the Carolinas. Any suggestions? I’m thinking of bringing Philosykos EDP, but I’m not sure what else.
Something that can stand up in the heat
Yup.
I live in Oklahoma, so rest assured I’m prepped for the Carolina heat. 🙂
I wonder if a “soliflore” consisting of just benzoin exists? I seem to reall like benzoin in any iteration. You small fab!
I think you can get benzoin EO, maybe you could experiment with diluting it in a carrier oil?
I second that….get some benzoin EO and play around with it in other fragrances, unscented body lotion, etc or wear it with a carrier oil….
Have you ever smelled or used tincture of benzoin professionally? I can’t get away from that association.
Yes and I love it! For all you benzoin lovers, here’s some wiki info:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benzoin_resin
I’m going to hunt down some EO, thanks for the ideas everyone ????
http://www.whitelotusaromatics.com/product/benzoin-heart-note-essential-oil
Here you go….I have some at home that I bought from Eden Botanicals but I checked the website and they don’t carry it anymore (they called it “styrax”….) it is tricky to work with…very sticky and thick…but I adds sustenance and longevity to all natural blends….
that would be “it adds sustenance” NOT “I”….
I could not add sustenance to anything as I am ninety pounds soaking wet!
I can’t get away from that association, either. 😉
No 19 stands up to the heat without being overwhelming. Courtesan is another good choice.
I probably wouldn’t have thought of either of those. Thanks!
YOu smell great! With all the discussion about Dame the other day I retried my sample of the Lime, Gardenia and Benzoin and realized that it reminds me of the original Marc Jacobs which I loved enough to drain a 100ml bottle of when it first came out….I also like the Gardenia Soliflore which is much creamier and less fresh than the L, G & B…..
Oh and why not bring the Dame you are wearing today to your wedding in Carolina? especially since you love it so and I think it would definitely work in warm weather…..
I’m thinking about it, but there’s a good chance I’ll use it up before then. I’m about halfway through the spray.
So just get another one 🙂 They are cheap , the shipping is free and you always get extra samples in your order!
I’m in the Carolinas (and coincidentally in Philosykos today). I recommend any scents that make you feel cool and that you’ll feel like reapplying throughout the day. (Whenever I’m wilting in the humidity, a fresh spritz from the Travelo helps me perk up.)
Thanks!
I’m a huge fan of Eau de Magnolia in the summer. I love the bright citrus opening and the creamy dry down. I find the longevity good, probably due to my strategic spray spots! I can send you a sample to try, if you’d like.
Oh, you know, I have a bottle of AC Sud Magnolia that’s small enough to bring with me. I hadn’t thought about it for this trip, but I bet it’d be good.
Thanks for the offer. I am actually trying not to take in any more perfume at the moment!
I am a huge fan of Philosykos – in fact my first sample of it came from a shop in Charleston, SC. If you like that scent, you may also want to sniff Figuier Ardent from Atelier at your local Sephora. I ended up buying FB of both scents, I loved them both so much.
I second the Atelier one (Figuier Ardent) and will also add that Mediterranean Fig from Pacifica is nice and the price is good too….
And Fig Tree from Sonoma Scent Studio which sells travel sprays at good prices (if you are looking for portability for your trip to the Carolinas)
I can probably try out the Pacifica next time I go grocery shopping, now that you mention it.
If they have the roller ball travel one get that…the concentration is higher and you can carry it in your purse….(easier to travel with)
Funnily, I used up a spray sample of FA from Sephora this winter, and liked it quite a bit. I’d planned to get a bottle. And then I got another sample, but it’s a dabber – and I find I don’t like it AT all this time. It turned thin and saline. So, I dunno what to do about that one. Which is a shame, because it’s cheaper than the Diptyque EDP (and I do prefer the EDP). It deserves another shot, though.
Currently sampling Melkmeisje from Baruti which is fresh and green and springlike but not quite me. Am treating a friend to a Red Sox game tonight for his 40th birthday and we must get there as soon as the gate opens practically so he can get his bobblehead (maybe I shouldn’t have told him about that….)
What a thoughtful gift. Have a good time. 🙂
SOTD = Bulgari Black
It matches my all-black outfit perfectly today, yet despite its oddity this is a comfort scent.
In light of sistine’s example to express gratitude, I also want to say thank you to everybody here for being such a supportive and caring community. Amazingly, I would welcome any one of you special people into my home. Stay well, everybody!
🙂
I’m sampling Vanilla Hinoki today. I only did one spritz, and so far it’s underwhelming but that may be due to my application.
In regards to World Blood Donor Day, on behalf of myself and all of my patients over the years, I want to say thank you to everyone who has donated blood, platelets, and signed up on the bone marrow donor registry. You have saved countless lives.
Ditto this! Just saw a news clip interviewing the trauma surgeons who met the Orlando bloodshed head on and would like to add my thanks not only to donors, but to all nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, CNA’s, EMS personnel, and housekeepers. People in healthcare come together everyday and work long, hard, emotionally stressful hours in hopes of bettering the human condition. It’s people like this that offset the madness in the world.
Twins! I’m trying samples of the EdP and perfume oil today at the same time. You might enjoy spritzing again to see what you think. I am usually happy with one spritz of a fragrance, but GVH works better for me with more more more. 🙂
Hi twin! Yep, I’m going to load some more on momentarily. I loved the opening blast of bergamot, and then the dry down is lovely too. How does the edp compare to the oil?
You have to go heavy on the application with this one as it is light. I want to get the oil too to layer with my edp.
DS&Durga Debaser which I put on in the effort to counteract feeling under the weather. It’s a cheerful and boisterous fig, but I am not sure it’s working. I feel like a grumpy old person grumping about “kids nowadays”
Maybe that’s the Pixies influence coming through. 😉
Haha! I never quite got the Pixies connection with this one, like, really??
I do like it though, it has a lighter, fresher quality to it that Philosykos IMO, but it can still be a bit much when it’s warm out.
Hope your day get’s a little better, Natalya!
I’ve only tried a dabber sample, and it’s really milky-cocunutty on me (like expensive sunscreen), so I’ve never got the Pixies inspiration either, to be honest.
I have always wondered about the fig in this one… Haven’t tried it yet, though it was on my “fig note” perfumes to sample list. I love fig notes and it seemed like this one was more milky fig then green fig?
SotD = Geisha Vanilla Hinoki perfume oil = sparkling bergamot + cardamom, then something juicy-green almost like lemongrass, followed by whiffs of woody-citrusy cypress + lavender, resting on a vanilla so beautiful that it makes me want to inhale my own arm.
Speaking of arms, let’s donate blood! And after (or before) you donate you should indulge in purchasing a bottle of perfume to reward and revive yourself. 😉
I’m currently ineligible to donate (low hemoglobin), but am working on improving my health so I can donate again in the near future. Who will take my place?
I’m not a tall person, and I have low-ish blood pressure, so it takes me twice as long as most people to donate a pint. But that’s ok! The Red Cross is always glad to see me, and they will be happy to see you. Check it out:
http://www.redcrossblood.org/donating-blood
You smell great and I am really tempted by that oil. I wish it came in spray format though…
You read my mind, I was thinking of buying some empty atomizers so I could try the oil as a spray . . . but I only have a sample of the Geisha Vanilla Hinoki perfume oil so I’m getting way ahead of myself.
It comes in edp too.
I would love to donate but my weight prohibits me 🙁
Me too, and I have O negative blood – the universal donor – and I don’t weigh enough for them to allow me to donate. Every time I show up, they always get excited when they see my blood type & then they see how much I weigh 🙁
What is the weight requirement?
You have to weigh 110 lbs. I have never reached the limit so can’t donate but my dad is is a lifelong donor, even got an award a few years ago. Giving blood is a great thing to do!
I’ll donate some of my extra pounds to you 🙂
I’ve been wearing Cuir de Russie for the past few days, wondering if i will regret not splurging on a bottle while I can still justify the price and if I even want to throw my money at Chanel. Problem is, I really find their perfumes comfortable and indulgent in a $200 white cotton T-shirt kind of way (not that I have ever owned such a thing, but I imagine that’s where all the soft, long fiber cotton has gone and that they are cut on the grain and well-sewn).
Anyway, CdR is just perfect for this week when I’m feeling anxious and doing sweaty physical work. It is also the first perfume I’ve found that seems to cover up the smell of my picaridin bug spray as well as not conflict with the odors of exhaust/gasoline/solvents/old wiring involved in troubleshooting an engine. I’ve caved and am now helping my husband with his vehicle repair since I can’t get anything else done without interruption. I’m smaller and more flexible, as well as more patient. While I approve of spending money on new parts instead of paying a garage, it is still really eating into my perfume budget!
I love CdR as well and have a good size decant from a split. I find it very comforting and calming and no wonder you reached for it again today. Despite the “poopy leather” nickname (given by Hajusuuri, I believe) it somehow transcends it’s animalic origins and sparkles in a burnished gold sort of way, at least to me. Good luck with you engine DIY. I understand your Chanel dilemma, because I’m right there with you, sister!
I’m with Hajusuuri on this one. On my skin it’s just poopy leather.
Same here.
Maybe I’m anosmic to “poopy” smells? The other night I spritzed the nape of my neck before bed and T-Rex gave it a very deep and thorough sniffing- then she commenced to rub and roll on me. But to be fair, when I spray sunscreen or ANY perfume, she rolls around on the floor where fallout occurred. She’s a strange, but entertaining, little dog.
My doxie rolls around in any stinky thing she can find in our backyard, so yeah, there must be a poopy vibe in there lol!
WI guess in your profession, it’s probably good that you are immune to certain smells.
Yup, I keep hoping for a different outcome. I think this is the definition of insanity.
I am with you on my wavering about whether or not to throw money at Chanel….miffed about the decants having to pull merchandise and miffed about the price hike coming up…I do want a bottle of no 22 but am on a no spending freeze…..and I have so much juice to go through I could not even justify purchasing a smaller Chanel bottle….ugh…and a part of me keeps thinking that if I am going to spend the money I would rather give it to smaller indies like SSS, Dame Perfumery or Providence Perfume Co….
that would be “decant sites”
I am still hopeful that the EDPs will have better lasting power and so the price hike will mean something, but I also don’t want the ones I love to smell different. So my dilemma is hoard or hope. I do tend to buy mostly from smaller companies, but when you love something . . .
I have donated multiple gallons of blood over the years, it seems like such a small thing to do but I think it makes a big difference.
Today I’m prepping for a trip tomorrow to Ashland, OR, where they hold a Shakespeare Festival each summer. I’ll be seeing three plays and then driving south to Burbank, CA where I am picking up a rescue dog. We will drive back together and get to know each other. SOTD is Cologne pour le Soir.
Sounds like a wonderful trip! Stay safe and do tell us about the rescue dog upon your return.
I expect you all will get sick of hearing about her.
You’ll be required to change your gravatar, ya know 😉 I’ll want to see what she looks like.
A childhood friend of mine had an Akita. It was a really sweet dog (I was afraid of dogs when I was little).
Oh, how exciting! How did learn of this dog? BTW, you smell fabulous!
My longcoated Akita died three years ago and I wanted another, but I also wanted a rescue dog. I found AkitaAngels.org and when I saw her I just knew she was my dog. Her name is Willow.
Great name!
Oh that’s so great!
Ack!!! So excited another rescue has a good home! You MUST update us regularly! I for one will NEVER get tired of hearing about a human giving an animal a loving home. IMO, the highest calling for humanity is to care for those that are unable to care for themselves, including animals, children, the elderly, the environment, etc. can’t wait to hear more ????
Beautifully said, Deva. I agree 100%.
Ditto!
I concur.
Doggie road trip: love it!
That sounds like a wonderful trip!
Yes, but in a perfume dilemma–it’s 65 here and in Ashland, and 100F in Burbank. I wish I had one perfume suitable for both but will probably take a selection.
That is a puzzle. Maybe a spring-y rose would work for both?
What about En Passant?
Wow, being driving weary that sounds like a long trip. Hope your little angel fares well.
Today I’m wearing Il Profumo Aria di Mare. It’s a nice beachy scent and helps alleviate some of my job-related stress, i.e., my miserable boss.
The same cranky boss who yelled at your about your choice of scent recently?
Haha!
I have a horrific boss too!! Just recently changed managers and this new one is the pits! At least I know I am not alone in my feelings, as one co-worker thinks they will wind up in jail, and I think I will wind up in an asylum, if we have to spend any length of time under her direction! But I put in for transfer to work day shift again and I got it!!! So I get to escape from the chaotic insanity of her management style very soon. Oh I feel for you…
I think that Chanel has put me off on buying any more of their scent offerings, I checked the price for Boy and for Chanel’s aesthetic, it’s too much money. That is making it almost too easy to cave on getting myself a bottle of Liu. SOTD is Liu and I am loving it.
I wanted to try Boy very much, but I have been unable to find any retailers that carry the Exclusifs line in my state. Combined with their cease & desist to third party decanters, it’s become virtually impossible. I may still try to pick up one of those splash minis that show up on eBay from time to time, but then, who knows if it’s legitimate?
Probably for the best, save my money for better offerings from smaller houses.
Yeah this is a big problem with the exclusives. I wish that they would provide a way to try smaller amounts themselves if they are opposed, for reasons I can understand, to the decant sites.
They did carded samples, not just minis — do keep an eye on ebay!
Like some of you, I am also in a contemplative/meditative mood today. Our flag is flying in front of our home, and my SOTD is the comfort of a long-ago favorite, Garden Botanika Heart. That says it all.
Oh my gosh!!! I forgot about Heart! I loved it so but had a coworker who wore it religiously (it was her signature scent) and I did not want to wear it because of that…you smell so good!!! do they still make it? I thought Garden Botanika had gone out if business…..
And I ended up with Garden Botanika’s Soul (which was discontinued)……
I’ve had my bottle for a number of years, but you can find Heart and numerous other GB products on Amazon.
Good to know…thanks!
Wearing Masque samples today, Romanza on the left, L’Attesa on the right. I am completely smitten with them both upon first sniff, which rarely happens. They’re both so beautiful, unique, and perfect for the weather out here, the ultimate trifecta!
I will be purchasing both, just trying to decide which one goes first 🙂
I’m really interested in l’Attesa. May I ask your impressions?
I ordered a sample from Twisted Lily and it was a really nice carded spray. It’s the most lovely shifting iris I think I’ve ever smelled, although I am still working it out myself.
Certainly! I will say that I ordered a sample from Twisted Lilly (as recommended by another NST-er) and was very pleasantly surprised to receive a 2ml carded sample spray. Always better when you can spray than dab, right?
I will also say that with both Romanza and L’attesa, I’ve found skin chemistry plays a big role in development. These are my first from the Masque line, so can’t say if that’s true with all of them, but that’s what I’ve personally found the past few days.
I think L’attesa is the iris for people who generally don’t “get” iris. I’ve tried a half dozen or so iris-centric perfumes, ranging from main stream to expensive/ niche, and this is the first one that has moved me. The review by Kafkaesque is quite spot on, but my nose is not anywhere near the same realm as hers 🙂
For me, the opening has a touch of neroli and a soft iris that has some rootiness, but not in the almost plasticy way that Xerjoff Irisss has (or the opening of Iris Cendre), or the very powdery way that Prada d’Iris has IMO. I very much get that soft suede-like effect that I think is the “champagne accord” from their press release. I think the effect is closest to the bread note in En Passant, just smooths everything out in a comforting way.
Other than that, I early don’t get much more citrus, tuberose, or ylang ylang individually. It’s all a very light iris with some green and freshness to it that slowly becomes more woodsy and eventually ends as a light, but spicy sandalwood.
Thanks! Nice! I’m clearly going to have to put this on my must-try list.
You smell great on both sides! And we are half twins. I’m test driving l’Attesa and loving it.
Fantastic! I think you were the one that steered me to Twisted Lilly, thank you again! I love when you get carded spray samples.
I think L’attesa will be coming home with me shortly. I love the opening and middle of Romanza, but need more time to study the base, L’attesa is fantastic throughout.
Oh good, another Romanza fan! L’Attesa wasn’t out yet when I bought Romanza, but I’m really looking forward to trying it!
Good morning! Just spritzed on some JM Blackberry & Bay. It’s almost never wrong. Thanks for the reminder about blood donor day. I believe there is a bloodmobile today outside of a neighboring office building. Maybe I’ll donate after lunch – I feel like I have to since I have that blood that everybody wants (and can use!) – O negative.
Nice…that is such an uplifting and cheery scent…might wear that tomorrow….
Hurray for O negative! We’re blood type twins. 🙂
Ditto – O negative blood too!! Blood type triplets!
Blackberry and Bay is one of my favorite Jo Malones. Perfect season for that one!
I sprayed some Atelier Cologne Silver Iris this morning, smelled really good in the stormy weather
Love Silver Iris! It’s one of my “black tie” scents.
It’s very elegant, isn’t it?
Jumping on the lavender band wagon today with Brin de Reglisse. Sometimes I cruise the scent of the day post for ideas 😉
Yay! another lavender fan…you smell great!
Sticking to my Diptyques I’m wearing L’Autre which is one of the older and weirder Diptyque creations. It’s a great pity they stopped doing those.
I actually don’t dislike cumin, but I had a hard time with that one. But I appreciated it’s gutsiness.
I haven’t been able to donate blood for the past 20 years… apparently the screening test for HIV has come up positive every time I’ve given blood, and they didn’t tell me until afterward. Each one of my 7 donated units was destroyed.
I’m glad they test blood, but I wish there were a better/more specific/less expensive screening test, or that the Red Cross would accept a certificate for, I don’t know, three months at a time? stating that according to the ELISA test, I don’t have HIV. It is a shame, particularly because my O negative husband cannot donate blood because of his association with me.
My flag’s out too. SOTD is Le Temps d’une Fete, as I wait for my sister and nephew to come visit!
I don’t know what the policies in the USA are regarding blood donation but I do know how these things are dealt with in the Netherlands:
To be able to donate blood you have to pass the regular test panel. Confirmatory testing is even more expensive so is only used when the regular tests reveal a positive. Some people, for no apparent reason react to some of the tests routinely used, and are thus no longer fit to donate blood, even though additional testing will effectively prove them free of the disease. It would simply be too expensive and too complicated to safeguard the safety of blood donations. What I don’t understand however is that you were only informed of this after 7 positive tests. That is not what I’m accustomed to. Certificates are completely out of the question, someone can be HIV, or Hep.B negative one day and be infected the next.
I hope this explains it a bit.
Oh, that was years ago. I donated blood several times between 1986 and 1994, but the early Red Cross policy, post-AIDS, was not to notify. Now, of course, I think they notify ASAP.
I do understand the need for screening. I just wish the screening test were, as I said, better/more specific/less expensive, so I could donate. My younger brother’s life was saved by donated blood.
You smell divine! I’m still hoarding my last decant.
Another gorgeous day in New England. I’m wearing Jolie Madame today.
There is an annual blood drive where I work but I haven’t donated in the last few years due to Lyme disease. Wish that I could though.
I need to wear my JM soon. It’s one of my sorely neglected bottles. You smell lovely!
JM is a HG scent for me so I don’t neglect it but I have to force myself to stop buying vintage minis on Ebay. 🙂
The weather has been perfect in NE
Hope that the Lyme isn’t too rough right now.
What do you think of Jolie Madame? How does it compare with Bottega Veneta, for instance? I’m in a leather kick and think I need to try it.
I stink at describing scents. IMO, JM and BV are nothing alike. Jolie Madame is a spring scent. For me it is creamy leather, green, mossy and violets. If anyone has a better description, please feel free add your opion.
BV is a floral suede but JM is creamy and green. Honestly, I don’t get leather from JM but I guess other people do. While the modern JM isn’t bad, vintage is gorgeous.
opinion…
I agree on the JM. I am not fond of leather as a perfume note but I love JM. To me, it’s creamy green violets with just a hint of leather.
I think that is an apt description. But I do get leather from JM. Green violets +soft leather.
My bottle is a more recent formulation, I think. Although I first sampled the vintage and really liked it, the bottle I bought smelled very similar-at least I couldn’t really tell the difference.
Check your sample pile!!! I’m pretty sure I included a partial vial of vintage JM back when I sent the rose samples to your old office(the package that almost got lost). I know it was a while ago and those little vials get lost, but maybe it’s still there?
Oh man – I’m sure it is! I reorganized my bottles last weekend but didn’t get to the samples yet. It’s got to be somewhere in there. Oy – must find a better method of organization…
OH YES YOU MUST TRY JOLIE MADAME. 🙂
I’m in Seville a aube today, and I smell wonderful. Love it!
I have also been donating blood, really, everybody able should – and should be allowed to do the same.
You do smell wonderful!
I’m in my Groundhog Day perfume
I did not have an auspicious beginning to the day as I saw 2 eviscerated birds on my way in to work. Then a co-worker mentioned that he got a parking ticket yesterday. Since “bad luck” comes in threes, I agreed to share the two birds if he agrees to share his parking ticket. It looks like we’ve both turned the corner. Wearing No.19 didn’t hurt!
Off-topic: Has anyone here ever lived in Flagstaff,AZ for > 1 year? What’s the best thing about it? What’s the worst thing about it? Would you move back permanently? You can email me, too, if you feel like responding privately. Thanks!
I have visited and loved it. Living there might be different, but I think it’s like a smaller version of Santa Fe- artsy-fartsy, nature/outdoor oriented, with the cost of decent housing exponentially increasing every year. I don’t know how it would appeal to a died in the wool NYC gal, though. As for me, I would move there if the opportunity arose, but I’m very much a loner and don’t require tons of human interaction to be happy. Although I like shopping and culture, I could easily trade that for extensive hiking and outdoor activities. As with everything, YMMV.
Oops, that’s “dyed in the wool” ????
I can only take artsy fart’s you for so long 🙂
And unrelated to the topic…you know you’re in trouble when you’re looking at a catalog, sees an item and decides that it sure is perfect for someone you’ve only met through the blogs and have never seen in RL. I saw a T-shirt with “All you need is LOVE…and a DOG” and who did I think of immediately? Deva, of course! And T-Rex!
Ha! Thank you for thinking of us! I’m not the first to say DOG is GOD spelled backwards… ????
I just realized that the spell check changed farty to “fart’s” ugh
And changed fartsy to farty…
That’s a fascinating off-topic question to which, of course, I have no answer. I’ve only visited and while I loved it, I realized why people who grew up with desert and giant skies feel claustrophobic anywhere else and how those of us who grew up surrounded by water feel claustrophobic in an entirely different way when there is only sky and earth.
I can see how the big difference in the outdoors requires a significant adjustment.
And those of us who grew up with mountains find that “giant skies” effect boring.
🙂
Finally I have the chance to respond to your question regarding Eden Botanicals….I know it is a pain to order sample by sample so I am going to suggest that you try their sampler packs….I have tried them all and they are all great…also, try a sampler pack of their oil blends…the amber is particularly gorgeous….I have bought larger bottles (4oz ) of their Amber Pure and Simple and blend it with a carrier oil to use as an all over moisturizer in the winter…it is a great base for oriental and gourmand perfumes…..
Can’t speak to the particular location but from my own personal experience I moved from a very large metropolitan city to a small rural town many, many years ago and adjusted quite well….I think Arizona would be an amazing state to live in (and you might even be able to visit the Dame Perfumery Store!)…..sometimes change is good…keeps life interesting and…things often happen for a reason…
Does my No Buy extend to EO you think?
absolutely not! essential oils are part of “aromatherapy’ and absolutely necessary for good health…you are most definitely permitted to buy essential oils at any time for any reason (says the person with about 40 e.o. bottles scattered all over the house!!!!)
I’m with CM, e.o. is not “perfume” so as far as I know, your moratorium is only for perfumes.
Thanks CM! When I previously looked at the Eden Botanicals website, the sample pack was temporarily unavailable. I will try again.
Thanks also for yoir thoights on venue changes. Last Saturday, I went to a graduation and look my daughter is going to Princeton party. The soon to be empty nesters are thinking about moving to either Florida or. Arizona, specifically Flagstaff as the weather is supposedly favorable for those with allergies / prone to sinus infection and other respiratory ailments. While I’m not in the sick category, I just never thought of AZ as a place for my “golden years” which is still a ways away but it doesn’t hurt to start sniffing around.
Arizona hurts my sinuses, I need a lot of humidity to feel comfortable so it was a no-go. Plus I can’t be land-locked like that, I need an ocean or at least a large river or lake nearby. Best to visit for a few weeks and see how it sits with you.
Eachoing Deva and Amy, I’ve visited several times and loved it but never lived there! The Grand Canyon is right there, so much natural beauty, and it’s really not that far to reach all the desert has to offer. Must love nature, and lots of snow!
Thanks Laila. The mention of snow pretty much killed any desire for long-term residency!
It very rarely snows down here in southern AZ. Just sayin’. ????
A friend sent me this, knowing my love of perfume:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXndz0RRVKI
Very funny!
Ha! Very funny! Can’t use Gain for my sheets/linens because whatever chemical they use, I wake up with swollen lips and eyelids- hugely swollen, to the point that I almost screamed in horror the first time it happened and I saw my self in the bathroom mirror.
It does knock the stink right out of my workout clothes, though ????
Yikes – think I’ll stay away too
😆 Great point – perfume commercials are usually goofy. Won’t make me buy their products, though.
Ha! I love it! I’m surprised one of my friends hasn’t sent this to me yet. Is this what we (perfumistas) look like to the unscented people of the world? Lol!
KA-POW! ????
SOTD is nice, inoffensive D&G Dolce so as not to overpower the dental hygienist. ????
I’m wearing Providence Perfume Co. Hindu Honeysuckle today. Hadn’t worn this one in too long.
I am guessing you like it?
I do like it. The combination of jasmine and coriander is an interesting way to approximate honeysuckle, and I’m enjoying the vetiver base. And since the main post today is on summer vetivers, I feel both on-theme and prescient. 😀
OOH coriander…always an interesting and intriguing note….
In the spirit of my random week for perfume I am testing Caldey Island Lavender (provided courtesy of Perfume Fairy Pixel!!) on my left wrist and Maison Berdoues 1902 Lavender Cologne on my right. They went on smelling similar, and dried down equally fast. Caldey has more going on, but that really becomes more apparent after 30 minutes. The remnants of the Caldey smell something like Egoiste. I swear. When this happened before I thought it was a scent-hallucination. There is nary a drop of lavender in Egoiste..! I think it is the woods in Egoiste that mimic the spicy woody lavender? I don’t know.
I am really hooked on the Caldey.
Luca Turin gave it high praise too.
I have been meaning to try the Caldey for ever so long! I am also a fan of Egoiste …nice to see so much lavender happening to day on NST!
Wearing Caldey Island Lavender while visiting on Caldey Island is one of my travel dreams. 🙂
Joining Austenfan in a Diptyque week. Sampling 34 Blvd St Germain. Didn’t enjoy this particular green opening.
In Running Out the door Tuesday, I’m in EL Jasmine white Moss – and today I forgot my iPod. Hope it’s not going to be a week of forgetfulness…
I love JWM! it’s such a beautiful, bold fragrance! Good choice!
So late today…sampling Coromandel…
Pretty nice but happily not enough wow to spring for a full bottle.
Andrea Maack Silk. Have been trying to go through gifted/swapped samples so I can share them with some pals from here, but I keep finding things that deserve a second sniff?
How is that one? I quick sniffed her line, but the one that stuck out for me was Coven, which I wore over the weekend.
Maybe too late for you to see this, but it’s on the surface simple and pretty, but maybe a little more complicated than a “silky” light floral…
SOTD: Jacques Fath Vers Le Sud
Finally received samples of the Jacques Fath line that had been sitting in my local post for the last 2 months. The marketing manager of Panouge saw my post on NST and realized I had not received them and contacted me directly (amazing customer service!) to provide me tracking number and suggested I check with post office (thanks to NST putting us in touch with each other)! Lo and behold, the package was waiting for me, so last night I had a happy sniffing session deciding which one I liked best. Vers Le Sud was the “coup de foudre” scent. It’s definitely moi and I am loving the citrus, fig, woody and lavender (!) notes. Could easily get a FB of this
Fig and lavender! Nice!
I had problems with the US postal service over the holidays as well…so frustrating! Glad your issue was resolved….
All thanks to NST!! I don’t know how the marketing manager from Paris would have found me, or known I didn’t receive the package without this blog. It was a fragrant rescue!
Late to the party today, but I always try to participate if I’m able.
My SOTD is Pulp by Byredo. Definitely appropriate for this hot, Texas weather. And summer is just beginning………we’re in for a hot one!
