It's Hump Day, and Towel Day (for interstellar hitchhikers). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a tiny dab of Moschino Fresh, by Alberto Morillas. I'm not enjoying it and I'm going to replace it with something else soon.
Reminder: on 5/27, wear a fragrance by Alberto Morillas, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is the Moschino cropped biker jacket, from the 2015 SS Barbie collection.
Thierry Mugler Cologne, the only AM fragrance I currently have. 🙂
Well you smell great! Way better than I do.
I only have one Morillas so I have to make it count.
So today I’m wearing some vintage L’Heure Bleue extrait, just a tiny bit. I kinda forgot I had it and I don’t trust the bottle.
Wearing one of my favorite one star fragrances, Givenchy Pi, the nose, Alberto Morillas. Luca Turin characterized this scent as “a sweet nothing,” and sometimes that is just perfect. I layered it’s sweet, comforting benzoin with some aged patchouli EO.
I like that one too.
I have about half a bottle and it’s gone completely strange and unwearable, but back in the day it was completely amazing: not a sweet nothing at all, but a big luscious woody-vanilla structure (which was very much at odds with the astronaut imagery). I loved it, but then, I used to wear Lagerfeld in the mid eighties, and man, was that ever sweet.
It has some heft and sillage but I find it direct and not overly complex. My bottle is about 4 years old…..
Mine is from 1998 because I tried it on its launch and of course had to have it. I got quite a lot of use out of it so I’m not shedding any tears. I really ought to just chuck it but I can’t bring myself to, even though it really is unwearable — such a great bottle!
Lys Mediterranee
I am sampling this today, thank you to a kind NST from the reverse swap meet. I have to say, the first spray I was not impressed, something is very unnatural or almost synthetic smelling about it. Now that is drying down, and spices have calmed and its settled into something a bit more tolerable but its still very strong. Maybe I don’t like Lilies and that is the whole problem.
Lys Med is a very unusual lily, as it’s not spicy or sweet. I like it, but I have only tried it a few times.
What I meant to say was, that you might like other lilies a lot. Have you tried any of the Baiser Volé’s? or Shanghai Lily?
Baiser Vole I liked, I have not tried TF one. Maybe I need to get over the initial shock of how strong the opening is
Have you tried any of the Delrae’s? Amoureuse has a lovely lily note, and is a gorgeous perfume.
Second this. Don’t give up on lilies until you’ve tried these. They are very different, but I love both. Baiser Vole is very crisp, at least in the edt. Shanghai Lily is very rich and warm.
My worst scrubber of all time– made me nauseous and panicky. Only perfume that has ever given me a strong visceral reaction
Thanks for posting this..I thought there was something wrong with me and my nose. It is not working for me..
I’m in your camp on this.. not a fan at all.
The only one? Have you tried Secretions Magnifique? 😉
I love Lys Mediteranee, but I only wear it when I’m on vacation, or walking on the sea wall on a nice day, or when wearing a sun dress. In other words, it’s not the most versatile lily, but sometimes it’s just perfect.
Yes! Lys Mediterranee for me is all about white sundresses and sandals and salty sandy skin. One of my favorites — interesting that some folks find it actively repellent! I think of it as an easy, pretty scent, but it *is* unusual, and has a bit of the odd astringent/creamy texture of a magnolia flower.
I dont think it’s representative of ALL lilies, so dont give up on them. I like lily in perfume but like thegoddessrena this one made me feel a bit ill too.
I agree. I collect and grow lilies of all kinds and I think the Cartier Basier Vole in every incarnation EDP, EDT and Essence are really suggestive of the real thing! I like Donna Karan Gold EDP too. I like all these so much I have not really sought out any others….
DK Gold is lovely, but I hate to recommend it as it’s discontinued.
DK Gold is still readily available at the discounters, so you may want to stock up. Fragrancenet has excellent prices for three different sizes.
I didn’t know that. I’ve got plenty, but I do hate to recommend things when there isn’t a chance it can still be bought somewhere.
@Lovestosmellgood: do try it, I think you would like it very much.
Interesting conversation. I don’t think I’ve tried any lily perfumes, although I have a couple samples of Basier Vole rolling around in my sample box.
Proceed with caution!
I have only tried this once, but was shocked at how much I disliked it immediately – though everyone on fragrantica seems to love it. Something felt very discordant, but I struggle with salty notes sometimes.
Personally I tend to like lilies at first sniff and then tire of them quickly. Also, they are too cool (as opposed to warm) for me.
Oh no! I’m sorry it’s not working for you. I feel bad that I gave you a scrubber (it wasn’t that bad for me.. I just wasn’t in love with it). If you want you can send it back to me and I’ll figure out something else to replace it.
When I first saw the cropped biker jacket, thought it was for Barbies…need more tea! As is par for the course for Chicagoland, we went from winter to summer in the space of a day yesterday…may opt for Silences post shower.
And it has a matching skirt, and shoes.
That would make a nice Barbie outfit too (the matching skirt and shoes, that is !)
Only for Barbies. Or well paid strippers.
Hysterical!
hahaha little plastic barbie shoes that match the permanently high heel shaped insteps of plastic barbie feet!
That’s exactly what I thought, “Barbie jacket!”
I LOVE THAT JACKET!
Would prefer a color other than pink, but OMG, it is wonderful!
I’ve been thinking the just thinking the same thing all morning about both style and the colour, but you know what? I think I could rock the pink if I had to…ripped jeans, white Tee, sandshoes…something like that? And sometimes, with a pencil skirt in black, although my older sister insists that only black goes with black (how boring, even if it’s true, which I’m not convinced about).
Wearing Goutal’s Passion. Drinking Palais des Thés Thé des Moines. Both are wonderful.
We’re sort of cousins today, wearing Un Matin d’Orage (I think you wore it last week, didn’t you?) and I enjoy it mightily! I changed into the warmer cardigan I wore yesterday, and I am in Heure Exquise all over again.
What is Passion like?
And…not to pry…but how is your dog life? Any dachshund on the horizon?
Passion is quite a heady concoction, similar in it’s full bodiedness (if that is a word at all) to Songes, but more sombre. I think it was last week that I wore Matin, or the week before. Not at all like Passion. I don’t know what current Passion smells like, and I can’t remember when I got mine, nor if I got a partial bottle or not.
No dog in site yet, but trying to get some information about reputable breeders, breeding dachshunds for tracking, which will probably mean getting one from abroad. I want to work with this one.
I have an acquaintance who works (zweetwerk) with his female ruwharige teckel, bred by someone in Zwiggelte. She had pups herself last autumn, the cutest little things, although mum always moves me more.
He does really good work, finds animals that have been injured and ends their suffering.
I’m going to send you an email as I really want to find out as much as I can about breeders of this particular kind of Teckel.
I prefer the mums myself as well, but Teckel pups are incredibly cute and also incredibly manipulative. It’ll be lovely to raise another dog, I really miss having one.
Oh you smell great!
When I first sampled Passion in the 80s it didn’t really move me…there was something odd about it (maybe the juxtaposition of white florals and vanilla combined with tomato leaf on a bed of patchouli and oakmoss)…but twenty years later I revisited it and fell hard (but then again I have come to really like tomato leaf as a note)….was sorely tempted to buy a bottle on fragrancenet but I have really been sitting on my fingers regarding ANY purchases after I recently typed out a list of my inventory at work and realized that in my financial situation I cannot justify ANY more purchases (not even samples) until I start to make a dent in my collection….let’s see how long that last-LOL!
what is PDT Thé des Moines?
Here is a link: http://us.palaisdesthes.com/en_us/the-des-moines-1728.html
It’s really nice, even nicer when brewed cold.
yum! Black and Green tea..

http://boisdejasmin.com/2013/06/perfect-teas-for-summer.html
Andy is far better at explaining about teas than I am.
Love Passion! To me it’s more along the lines of Heure Exquise, with an emphasis on sandalwood rather than iris. But mine is probably from the 1990s, so who knows what it smells like nowadays.
Ooh, thanks for mentioning this, nozknoz. I love Heure Exquise, and I actually just located my Passion sample so I’m looking forward to it with more interest now.
Let me know what you think!
I do not feel any resemblance to Heure Exquise at all. I feel a stronger link to Songes and to Gardenia Passion. But interpreting a fragrance is very personal. I like it very much.
It’s always surprising how different noses can be. It seems far from the more floral AGs to me. And yet, we both really like it. 🙂
I was just talking about the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy with a lab mate earlier today! He hasn’t read it yet, but he claims to be a nerd. The poseur. 70 °F, but such a warm hug.
Speaking of the swapmeet, an etiquette question: If someone sends you a sample that has spilled in transit, should you tell them? On the one hand, it might be useful for them to know that they might need to look into changing their packaging habits. On the other, I don’t want to tell them that the wonderful, expensive, scented liquid they so generously sent me served only to perfume the bubble wrap.
I once ordered a few things from a private seller and one of the bottles she sent leaked half its contents (but only half, thank goodness): it was a two-part cap and the outer shell (gilded plastic) seemed tight against the bottle but the inner core wasn’t. I let her know, because it seemed like the kind of thing a seller would want to know. So I guess I’m voting for telling them.
I second that…..
Thanks for your inputs! I would have no qualms about telling a seller. This was for freebies in the swapmeet, though, so it’s not like I paid for them; but yeah, I think you’re right–they’d want to know.
uh oh..is that me Koyel?
Nah, yours all arrived safely 🙂 But thanks for asking! I’ve made a decent dent in that Jasmin et Angélique, by the way.
Definitely tell them! What a shame if that happened a 2nd time, right?
I adore HHGTTG, and the others! Is it possible to navigate life properly without contemplating–with some envy, on occasion– the mission of Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged? Or being glad to know some froods who always know where their towels are?
I am old enough to have listened to the original BBC Radio 4 series under the blankets on Long Wave. :^)
Yes! My father and I stayed up late, laughing so hard sometimes that we had tears running down our faces.
Oh my goodness!!!! I have always wanted to listen to them. You didn’t happen to record them, did you? Or know where I could find the recordings?
I vote in favor of telling, even if I don’t always do that myself. I had a situation where I sent someone a decant, and it leaked pretty severely in transit, and I was able to send a replacement.
Another Morillas favorite of mine: SOTD=Daisy Dream. Works just about anytime!
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!! Feel free to click on this link and DANCE DANCE DANCE DANCE!!!! Woot woot!!!!!! LOL
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSERMaljVyk&feature=share
Yeah, last day of school here too, but I’m not looking forward to summer. No dancing.
I’m with you. I dance the day after labor day.
Honest Mums are the best.
Oh, congrats on making it through another year! My dad taught 4th grade, so I know that feeling.. plus, who hasn’t gone to school and is so happy when school is out.
What’s planned for your kids this summer? Do they do camp? Seems like all kids go to camp these days..
Big summer planned this year, for a change! We’re flying out to Arizona in June, for a week at the Grand Canyon and other local sites.
In July, we’re heading down to Jacksonville Beach, for a few days with my in-laws to celebrate Papa’s 80th birthday! Beach time!
We’ll also go to my folks in Nashville for a few days. Mostly though, we’re gonna sleep a little bit more, relax and recharge, and sloooooow down a bit! 🙂
A wonderful plan for summer! And the Grand Canyon is glorious! If you can, try to come in the early spring, when the wildflowers are blooming!
Great summer plans! Enjoy!
Yay!!!
I am wearing a coat of Roger & Gallet Blue Lotus body lotion. I smell fresh, but not calone-y, all citrus and “flowers” with a tiny dash of incense and woods.
I am drinking a mug of Yunnan black tea with a tiny dollop of cream in it.
Black yunnans are amongst my favourite black teas.
Ohhh.. I have Blue Lotus! I forgot all about that! I keep reading the Morillas list and take mental notes of the ones I have- then promptly forget
:-/
For Morillas Week I’m in vintage Rochas Byzance EDT, which is so very strange — massive citrus-aldehyde opening over what is obviously an amber-vanilla oriental, with a huge armload of spiced flowers in the middle: it’s as if the brief was, “Every perfume that has ever been, in one bottle.” I’ve been wearing it since it was launched and I love it, but I don’t even know how it could have come to be.
I tried Moschino Fresh and the bottle is so fantastic but the scent is so nothing. I guess it’s the kind of thing that sells nowadays, though.
I almost wore this today, but I remembered that people would be coming in and out of my office all day and I decided to go a bit more office friendly. I love the spiced lemon meringue opening!
Byzance is most definitely not office-friendly!
I love this one so much, I have been wearing it since its launch.
It’s going to be warm today. I’m in Chanel Eau de Cologne.
Seriously, I’m so ready for this week to be done with… I feel like every time I try to make a step forward with my work half the office decides “screw you!” and then pushes me back twenty steps with a whole bunch of other tasks.
I am right there with you!!!!! Work has been challenging for me as well…… dealing with dysfunctional individuals (ie; co-workers) is the main reason 🙁
Seriously. I held back yesterday, but tonight the scotch is coming out. Everything this week has driven me insane.
Ha! too bad I don’t drink 🙂
On second thought…forget the scotch…I think I am taking a sick day tomorrow…I feel a “tickle” in my throat…….
I call that tickle in the throat a mental health day.. Sometimes essential.
I am not feeling work today, tomorrow or the next day
I’m so glad it’s a short week for me. Tomorrow is my Friday although I do technically work (from home) a little on Friday as well. At least I’ll be able to have some peace while working.
Sampling Zarkoperfumes Pink Molecule. The opening is very fun and happy and ta-da! It rapidly becomes softer and creamier but is still happy. Since I didn’t get to Indigo this weekend, I still don’t have bottle 100 so I’ll probably buy myself Lorenzo Villoresi Tropicana which is happy fruit salad on me
Black….and….White…layered……I needed some Nirvana (literally and figuratively)….something simple, soft and easy for a challenging day at work……can’t wait for the long weekend to get here (for me that starts on Friday 🙂 !!!)
You smell wonderful! Black was the first perfume I bought without “living with it” for a while. The SA at Sephora sprayed some on me, and I just stood there and grinned for a minute. And it smells
even better layered with White.
Today was the first day I layered them and I like it…nice thing is getting samples is easy (at Sephora or through a Sephora order) so I have yet to buy a full bottle of either….I find that they are both great office scents….non offensive but smell good too!
Oooh! It just so happens that I’m interviewing him tomorrow. Would anyone like me to ask him anything in particular?
If he could bring out the original Omnia under another name for his own house/line? If I remember rightly he has started his own perfume line hasn’t he?
That is such a beautiful perfume.
Second Austenfan.
Okay, if he’s in an amenable mood, I’ll definitely ask him that. And yes, it’s actually his own line that I’ll be interviewing him about.
Yes! My favorite question for any nose, if budget was unlimited and you could create a fragrance to just please yourself, what would it be?
Yes. It looks from his list of creations that they are very much to a brief and often with a limited budget. Only a few seem to allow for more money and free reign, so it would be nice to know what HIS taste is.
Cool 🙂 I’ll try to ask him that too.
Persolaise, not sure if you’ll see this or have time to ask him — he had collaborated with quite a few perfumers. What did he think of the experience – the good, the bad and the ugly…not to name names, just the advantages and disadvantages.
Great question! I’ll try to ask him that too.
Sampling Sammarco Alter today. It’s way too minty for me, I smell like a tube of toothpaste.
Ha!
That’s curious…I thought it was jasmine and wood. Samples coming soon.
I know, right? It was jasmine +civet+toothpaste to begin with, now it’s just toothpaste for me. I have no idea what registers as mint for me.
I have a terrible head cold today, so can only wear something in my imagination, where I might as well be sampling some vintage Iris Gris. I haven’t even started work yet, and I can’t wait till it’s over and I can go back to bed.
Oh, hope you feel better soon! Go back to bed!
Feel better! Have you tried DSH Scent of Hope?
Surfed The Sample Sea this morning and am wearing Hiram Green’s Voyage. It’s really gorgeous – softly spicy and creamy and warm but not too much of anything. Off to Indigo for a travel spray stat! I was thinking about my new vanilla obsession last night, and wondering what vanillas I’ll dare to wear in the warmer weather and this would be a great one, imho.
I’d be interested in hearing what other people wear that is not usually considered “appropriate” for a particular season. Like Mitsouko in summer, or Ostara in winter. Perhaps a Friday poll?
You smell gorgeous! Hope you will find a travel spray.
Thank you, Hamamelis! I did find it, as it’s available here in the US at Indigo Perfumery. I almost took the plunge on the bottle, but reined my gluttony in. Whew …
Winter Woods in the summer and Orange Sanguine in the winter….although I flip flop them too!
To me the only ones that arent appropriate are ones that will kill me if I wear them in the heat of summer (here up to about 44°c/114°f). I enjoy sultry in summer and rugging up in winter then freshening up with a blast of cologne or vetiver.
I’d be interested in hearing what summer vanillas are out there that folks like. I too love Voyage, but not sure summertime, 80s/90s heat, is a good match for it.
The other vanilla I enjoy and think is good for summer is Creed’s Sublime Vanille. It’s a citrusy vanille, very light and clean and not too sweet.
Vanille Galante and Allegoria Lys Soleia. Although strictly lily, they both have the vanilla/lily scent perfect for summer.
I like Vanille Insensee year round…have also been enjoying Black Flower Mexican Vanilla and will be wearing it in the summer….Pacifica Island Vanilla is also nice for the summer (if you don’t mind your vanillas with a bit of tea and a tad bit sweet)
I should try Vanille Insensee again. I had a FB years ago, gave it away (rash, dumb move) but haven’t really missed it.
I don’t think I have met a vanilla that I don’t love….my first crush being the ridiculously inexpensive Coty’s Vanilla Fields (the bottle was pretty too)….Vanille Insensee is different…not as sweet and has that bit of an edge…(oakmoss? I know …not the real deal but I think it might be one of the base notes??)
And I also enjoyed Jo Malone’s Vanilla and Anise but I think it might be discontinued????
I wear Vanille Galante in the summer — light and breezy and pink-jasminey.
There’s something in this scent that hits me the wrong way.. may be the lily. I loved it when I first tried it, got a couple of samples, and then it changed on me.
You know what scent I really like that I think could be OK for summer is Aftelier’s Vanilla Smoke. My issue is that it lasts such a short time, so I’m curious about the perfume version.
Sadly the Aftelier’s don’t work with my skin chemistry for how they smell or how they last…which is just as well…my wallet is happy!
Comptoir Sud Pacifique does a huge range of vanilla-and-somethings. I got a bunch of samples which I’ll start working through in Summer.
Floragal, have you tried Roma by Laura Biagiotti? I think it’s perfect for summer and is a light vanilla with slightly minty (but not toothpasty) top notes. So yum!
Hi Holly, I wear Bois de Vanille all year. I figure that if the gardens in my neighbourhood can burst with rich scented flowers such as jasmine, honeysuckle, lilies, wisteria and roses then it must be okay. If strong scents are good enough for nature then they are good enough for me. But summer down here is pretty mild, 20-25 celcius.
Yesterday in the frost and snow flurries I wore Diorissimo EDT and it was great. I think Cristalle isanother good winter scent. I like that green clarity.
Wearing Miu Miu today. I finally started to get the pepper from it. It’s pretty light still, but nice.
In Omnia Paraiba. It starts out citrus-y on me, then settles into quiet cheerful. It’s counteracting the weather today, which is gray and rainy. Again. 🙁
Perfect antidote! We finally got rid of rainy & gray, sorry we sent it to you.
SOTD is Dior Homme. I am so in love with this, and have a bottle on the way to supplement my largish decant. Yay!
You smell great! I really like this one — a lavender that doesn’t make me gloomy.
Love this perfume and it lasts all day and night. Plus it’s so much cheaper than women’s perfume ( here, at least)
Since I was thinking about it yesterday: Encens Mythique d’Orient
That is on a bottle for the future list..
I need to try this one. I’ve yet to find a fancy Guerlain that I don’t like, but I haven’t bought any because I can’t decide which I prefer the most.
SOTD is Imaginary Authors Yesterday Haze…one of my very favorite summery scents. Today is a nice warm 85 degree day and I wanted to wear a fragrance that compliments the weather.
This one was a surprise love for me – I don’t love fig notes but I really enjoy this scent.
I like fig scents, but this one is very special and feels like summer to me.
My Regime des Fleurs samples arrived, so I’m wearing Bel Epoque. It seemes to be a beautiful white floral, but I’m not entirely sure because DABBER SAMPLE. Aaarggghhh, I really find this frustrating. What is a girl to do, if her nose needs three sprays to recognise the presence of a scent?
Anyway, I will also admit right away that I mostly ordered the samples because I love the bottles. If you like this modern opulence look, check them out.
Ooooh, I looked it up and those are fabulous bottles! I especially like the rose gold-y look of Bel Epoq. And I’m intrigued by Timelapse: “Not only intended to be applied to the skin as a traditional perfume, Timelapse was designed to scent and flavor drinks, fresh fruits, cakes, ice cream etc.” !!!
Yes, that bottle looks beautiful. I like the grey one a lot, too. Will let you know when I reach Timelapse.
Those are on my sample wish list. Sigh …
Dabbers eek! I’ve already broached that subject this week. Our only option when buying dabbers is to buy at least two of each, plus decanting supplies plus a label-maker and labels. 😀
I feel your plight …
I recently bought my .7ml sample of Romanza from Twisted Lily for $4.00. They sent me a 2 ml manufacturer’s spray sample yay! I’ll confess, I was doing the math and wondering how I could buy 15 2ml samples for $60 as opposed to the 35ml bottle at $165. I think I could settle for 30ml. 😉
Yes, buying two and decanting helps, but in this case, I really didn’t feel like paying for two sample sets…
I second getting a couple samples and combining them into a small spray vial. I bought some 2-mL spray vials to do just that. Unfortunately, they’re plastic, and I learned just after ordering that plastic samples go bad quickly 🙁 So if you find 2-mL glass spray vials, do let me know, please! (I have found 3-mL ones, but want to go as small as possible.)
https://www.bestbottles.com/all-bottles/Perfume-atomizer-aluminum-bottle-cans/Perfume-atomizer-Aluminum-bottle-cans-purchase.php
scroll down…they are 3ml though.
1.5ml glass spray bottles are pretty easy to find, I buy mine off Ebay.
Oh my goodness, this is excellent. I should’ve asked you earlier!!! So cheap, too!!! Do you have a favorite vendor? Or at least, one you’ve had good experiences with?
On second glance, they all appear to be the same vendor.
I just buy from random Chinese vendors. Looks like there’s someone selling 2ml size at the moment. Cheeeeeeeeap!
Also, that price tag makes me not want to try them, just in case I DO end up loving them.
Yes, that’s a potential problem…
I’ve seen Regime des Fleurs pop up a couple of times, but haven’t tried anything from them. Of course, the two I am most interested in, Nymphaea Caerulea and Floralia, are not part of the sample flight 🙁
I know your impressions are limited by the dabber, but what do you think of the line?
I’ve only tried Bel Epoque so far and this is a beautiful ehite floral – there’s definitely a gardenia note in there, always a plus for me. I’ll keep you posted as I work myself through the samples.
Oh, and btw, I received both Floralia and Nymphaea Cearulea as part of the set.
Fantastic! NC is centered on blue lotus and I am curious if the floral aspects shine through, or if it’s just another very aquatic lily.
And agreed on gardenia; I tried an attar from Sultan Pasha (Jardin de Borneo Gardenia) a few months ago specifically because it used a gardenia enfleurage.
I look forward to reading your notes as you go!
Continuing with Alberto Morillas in CK Truth. Works well for the office but is not too boring.
I love this fragrance. Probably the best Calvin Klein ever.
Oh good. Now I qualify :).
I thought Truth was by Thierry Wasser and some of his buddies . . . Jacques Cavallier and Alberto Morillas apparently.
Truth is one of my favourites. Fresh, not-sweet, just so there with a hint of vetiver, long-lasting and costs next to nothing.
Happy Hump Day Everyone! Just trying to make it through this week. So exhausted! These last two weeks of school literally zap all of your energy. Trying to bring a little happiness into my life, so my SOTD is Deseo by Jennifer Lopez. This is just a pleasant scent!
Hope the perfume helps you get through the day!
AG Rose Absolue
I discovered the most beautifully scented rose, Mister Lincoln, at my neighborhood rose garden yesterday. Of all the rose perfumes in my collection, Rose Absolue smells most like it, but it’s not quite fruity enough. Anyone know of a similarly dense rose perfume that’s a bit fruitier/jammier?
ML is a hybrid tea rose and is beautiful isnt it? I think my Dad has one.
MFK A La Rose and AdP Rosa Nobile are nice and rosy but maybe too pink? I tend to think toward La Fille de Berlin or Calligraphy Rose for red roses with tradional tea rose scent.
I love both A La Rose and Rosa Nobile, but I agree that they’re pinker than what I’m craving now. La Fille de Berlin doesn’t work on me; it turns into an angry rose on my skin, if that makes sense (probably not). I’ll add Calligraphy Rose to my sample list. Thanks!!
My first thought was of Lutens’ Sa Majeste la Rose which is a very velvety, red and somewhat honeyed rose.
Oh yes that one is lovely.
Oh, I have that one! Good call. Something like that but richer would be great. Rose Absolue is so rich, it almost seems oily.
I just tried a sample of Marie Candida Gentile’s Rrose Salavy. It is really beautiful (if you are a rose lover).
Did you get a lot of camphor in this? I think I overdid it dumping a dabber on myself and it was all I could smell. Completely killed the rose. But maybe in lighter doses. The first sniffs and dabs seemed lovely.
I just got a 15ml bottle of this. I don’t get camphor but something that smells like salty green pepper for about 15 minutes until it gets deeper and a bit jammier. I think the Scented Hound mentioned camphor as well.
Ah yes that review describes just what I got, except the Rose went missing. I do think I just dumped too much.
Thanks, I’ll be sure to sample this!
I stand corrected…it is Rrose Selavy.
I’m not sure about dense, but Miss Charming is a fruity red rose. I like it, and had it until I got La Fille. (didn’t think I’d wear both).
That’s JHaG, right? Think I sampled before, but can’t remember much about it.
Yep, that’s the one.
Mister Lincoln’s are lovely, aren’t they. It may be too much, but I think FM Une Rose is one of the best full-bodied Rose out there. A la rose and the Rosa Nobile are both too pink for me.
Yes, good one! I tried last year in a hurry through Barneys. Must revisit.
I don’t know Rose Absolue, but when I think fruit/jammy rose, I think Tauerville Rose Flash. And Nahema. They both may be completely off the track for your purposes.
I blind bought Rose Flash and then swapped it away. Turned sour on my skin. Thanks for the reminder of Nahema; can’t believe I still haven’t tried it.
I think it is gorgeous and a must-sniff.
Are you familiar with Goutal’s ce soir au jamais? I think its a bit fruitier than Rose Absolue. I love them both (I actually love and wear all of the AG roses, except the new one which I haven’t yet tried). I would recommend the EDP of CSAJ over the EDT, although they are both gorgeous.
Yes, that’s one of my absolute favorites!
Lutens Fleurs de Citronnier, it’s so nice
Lovely
I like that one too. Almost never hear about it anymore!
I do have a few Morillas options to choose from, but aside from Vanille 44 and Omnia, Im just not a huge fan. I have some Byzance that’s more than 20yrs old and is great- I just dont feel like smelling 18 today. Maybe Friday.
I was at my local shopping centre yesterday and the perfume shop was having a big relocation sale so I got some things super cheap- like a full 120ml bottle of AdP Mandorlo di Sicilia for $8. 🙂 also Halston z-14, and some 80’s/90’s frags for about the same. K de Krizia is ok but the others are killing me with their 80’s-ness- Mackie by Bob Mackie, Nuit de Scherrer and Patti labelle. I doubt I’ll be able to wear Patti. Ever!
I love Halston Z-14. Had not smelled it until last year, and then IMMEDIATELY bought it for my husband.
Absolutely wonderful on a woman, too! My best compliment when wearing this fragrance: “you smell rich.”
This was the first time I’d ever smelled it too and added it straight away to my stash. Delicious! Glad to know there is still a man smelling awesome in this stuff and wishing more guys would!
Oh wow, love that AdP, great score!
It is isnt it 🙂 I cant help but wonder what delights were sold before I got there..
K de Krizia is one of my first perfume loves. I didn’t think it was around anymore.
It is, and has recently been reformulated (of course, and probably not the first time) and the bottle updated. The one I got is in the older, black stripe bottle. Ive only ever seen Krizia available online but this is a little shop that specialises in hard-to-get frags.
Stuffed up nose from tree pollen allergies. Still wearing Parfum Sacre vintage EDP. Going to hit the Allegra in a minute so I can actually smell what I’m wearing.
Hope the Allegra works!
Thanks Robin. Allegra is the only one that works for me.
70 degrees today! woo-hoo! Summer is getting closer!
SOTD for me is BV Knot. My love of this one has died down somewhat. Still enjoy it but don’t love it. Another reason to not purchase FBs!
I hate when that happens, but I can’t stop myself from buying FBs. 🙂
I know. Have a full bottle of a scent is quite nice and it looks great on the dresser. I get it.
I felt that way when I bought La Fille de Berlin..love love then..died down..
I had the same experience with that one. It actually started to grate on my nerves after a while. I still like how it smells, but only for a quick sniff.
I got a mini of this and after using it up, I was completely over it. Glad I didn’t buy a big bottle, even though I like the bottle design.
SOTD is J’adore L’absolu, soft peachy warmth. Overcast and grey here.
On the plus side, today’s meetings start at 8am, which is better than yesterday’s 7am.
Our new VP just announced an in-person meet and greet at 2pm on Friday — yes, the Friday before a long weekend. I declined. One of the benefits of being in sight of retirement is no longer feeling like one has to put up with inconsiderate executives.
Still love J’Aore – l’Absolu, D’Or, and original.
Really. How rude is that? Sounds like posturing to me!
Wearing vintage (80s) Vacances, which is likely to become overwhelmed by the heat we’re to get today. Just saw my daughter off on her trip back to college for summer session.
Last day of school… which just means that we’re starting on the June Crazies! This coming weekend, my nephew has his Honor Court for Eagle Scout, and then my younger son starts his summer PE camp (it’s terrific opportunity, really, one month of heavy-duty health/PE that frees up the students from taking PE during the school year, so they can take another class, and they do cool things like caving and white-water rafting, and the high ropes course at the nearby Boy Scout reservation, but it is EVERY weekday and Saturday in June, and if you miss an hour of it you don’t get credit). And then begins the insane shuffling of Older Son to military academies for their summer programs, interspersed with some visits at other colleges. Yoicks.
I’m starting to feel like I need more fortification than the gentle and tender Vacances… maybe Silences would do?
My head hurts just looking at your schedule, especially with the military academies/colleges, which is NO JOKE ( my mom tried to get our local congressperson to write a letter for West Point – but let me tell you there are a lot of ambitious teens in NY!)
Mals- My head hurts too and I give you a lot of credit…you must be skinny as a rail with all of the running around that you do! I hope your children appreciate it!
Hope you get through all this unscathed! Just wanting to check that the package made it safely and with no leaks to you?
Would have loved a summer PE program that freed me from taking it during the schoolyear. Yes, I believe Silences will lend the required fortitude.
Hang tough Mals!! You’ve got this!! (I think….LOL!!) May is our worst month, sounds like June is yours!
PS. My daughter took PE in the summer last year, and was SO GLAD she did!
I’m in MCG Syconium. A lovely honeyed, milky fig and sandalwood. Maybe more sandalwood, as it reminds me somewhat of TF Santal Blush. I really don’t like saying the name, though(sounds like meconium?).
Hmmm..sounds like a weird name..I wouldn’t know how to say it but I don’t know how to say many of the frags I own
I had to look that word up, so wish I had not.
://
Sorry. Hope the image is gone by lunchtime.
Oh that was repulsive. Gah.
Oh yay. I learned something new. Wish I hadnt but the comments made it irrisistable … :-/
lol, that DOES sound like meconium – at least the way i would pronounce it too. hehe. that’s funny.
Agree, I don’t think I’ve tried Syconium yet because the name always brings to mind meconium. A shame, really!
It’s definitely worth sampling if you like figs and sandalwood, if you can ignore the name and hope nobody asks what you’re wearing.
Figs and sandalwood sounds great, and I like MCG in general. Thanks for reminding me to try it, Elisa!
I’m wearing the only fig I like, which is Womanity. I sprayed it very lightly (for me), because not everyone in my library enjoys this scent.
I never think of that one as a fig scent. I like it, too. It’s so unique and weird in a good way.
So busy at work I forgot it was Towel Day! Douglas Adams continues to inspire with his genius, even from beyond the grave.
Wearing Trefle Pur today.
My son forgot too! Bad fans, you guys.
Well, I woke up in the remnants of last night’s Lyric, so there was nothing to do but apply more Lyric. It’s a tough life…
you smell lovely.
It’s glorious out and I am wearing just a few dabs of Vero Kern’s Rozy extract. I love it against the strong green and earth smells of the outdoors today.
That sounds perfect.
I think it’s the only one in the line I haven’t tried.
Oh what do you think of them? I am trying to decide if Rozy is my second or third favorite. First goes to Mito EDP, which I love, and then Onda and Rozy. Rubj smells really rank on me, I think in all its forms, although I have to try the EDP again. (People swear it and the extract, sans cumin, are quite different than the Viole.) And I haven’t tried Kiki.
I love all the Vera Kern perfumes. Rubj is my favorite, followed by Rozy, Onda and Mito. I don’t have Kiki but hopefully I will eventually have that one as well. They are expensive but at least she doesn’t inundate the market and only releases a new perfume from time to time. I believe she has another one coming out this year but I have no idea what type of fragrance it will be.
Which form do you have? Extract, EDP, or Viole? I’m so falling for these and seek guidance!
I agree. I love everything she’s made (only a couple I havent tried) and have Mito vde and Kiki edp. Ive no doubt that when Ive tried them all and prioritised, there will be more 🙂
Or is it the extract and the voile? Very confusing.
Happy hump day! Also, last day of work for the holiday!
BUT it is end of month, so crazy, crazy, crazy reports. My fingers have never moved so fast.
In Body Shop Moringa shower gel + Chanel 5. Yum.
I keep hearing good things about the Moringa line. I need to check it out!
I showered with Moringa today!
Isn’t it lovely? 🙂
I showered with Moringa yesterday! 🙂
(and Satsuma is being d/c’d from all our stores- soooo not happy!)
Wearing Copal Azur. I smell good, but I worry I also smell a lot, however no one has mentioned it.
I have no Morrillas. I have not really experienced any Morillas that I can remember. How interesting that I have nothing for this well known perfumer.
I reached into my untried sample baggy and pulled out Tauer Perfumes’ Carillon pour un ange.
It’s hefty but also gorgeous. I’m a fan.
Wearing the last of my Ormonde Jayne Frangipani, it’s so easy to wear and I like that I get some of the plumeria without the coconut/ suntan lotion vibe that seems to be common.
Not sure if it’s FB worthy yet, but would definitely pick up the 10ml purse spray if I could get just one!
You can do a split of the 4x package of purse sprays.
Wearing Tolu today…
It is very well done but has what I call the barbershop accord 😉 that I get w/ some orientals which I would define as a certain sweet powderyness that gets on my nerves eventually. I don’t get it w/ all oriental fragrances.
Hey, Sector ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha! Happy Towel Day!
I’m commando at the moment and planning on spraying myself with something fab at the mall since I have to run some errands there.
Have a great day, all. And remember to to keep your towel with you! ????
I was thoroughly enjoying my morning doing massive weeding and yard work. I’m crazy. But it’s such a joy that summer is finally here. SOTD is a reach to the neglected, my first Guerlain love when I was a teen: Jardins de Bagatelle. Cheers!!
Very best of good mornings, all! Back from the dentist–no changes, no work needed, best kind of visit!–and feeling sad because every time I go home, I remember how much I love Northland and how deeply connected I am to the places of my childhood. Then I come back here, to the city and narrow skies and hard pavements and just TOO MANY PEOPLE. But I’ll have re-adjusted by lunchtime, because I have a busy day with students, and they’re real and important. I’m being helped in my re-connection with this life by my SOTD, a healthy application of the original Omnia. So pretty, so interesting, so soothing. Oh, and I did do a little extended birthday shopping: one thing I bought is a strange little jacket-coat-cardigan thing that is slightly cool despite looking rather like the typical outer wear of the Ferengi from Deep Space Nine. Hope I can do it justice: it’s fun and a bit edgy, and I’ll have to be in the right mood to carry it off.
Happy Birthday for yesterday! Glad to hear it wasn’t marred by horrible dentistry and the consequent bills. The jacket sounds great and I’m pretty sure someone who wears red boots can carry off anything!
You are kind! I think a truly together person might be able to wear both together, but me, not so much. The weather was truly awful, that cold, peculiarly wet rain that Northland specialises in. Your winter is roaring in too, I think. Wear gorgeous warming perfumes. Oh, send I’m right on the verge of committing to a bottle Galion La Rose., another extended birthday present. Enabler pin, with star and garter, on its way!
Oooh La Rose! I think that might make a fabulous extended bday pressie 🙂
Happy extended birthday – again, again! And no birthday is complete without a new bottle of perfume.
Thank you–my thinking eggzackerly!
The Ferengi were always the best dressed on DS9 anyway. May your jacket bring plenty of latinum your way!
Mmmm…I’m just a bit worried that I might look like a beetle from the back, but it didn’t cost even one bar of cold-pressed latinum, so not a lot is lost.
Somehow I missed your post and just wanted to wish you a Happy Extended Birthday! You smell wonderful in Omnia, which is a favorite of mine when the weather turns cool. Enjoy all your birthday goodies, and grant yourself permission to streeeeeeetch that extension as far as it will go. You deserve it!
thank you so much! I’m wringing every last drop out of it that I can! Such fun!
I have used my towel in almost all the ways Douglas Adams says save waving it as a signal 🙂 I’m wearing more incense today in the form of AbdesSalaam HIndu Kush. Tonight I hear Paul Simon so I’ll probably change to something more fun later on.
Wearing the dry down of Jicky and will transition to no 19 after work. I don’t know what to make of this warm weather.
It’s really surprising how few Alberto Morillas perfumes I have, or have ever even sampled, considering his vast output. Currently, I have Marc Jacobs Daisy (only for the bottle), Inez de la Fressange (the later one, inoffensive but not bad), and Lanvin Oxygene, which I’m wearing today. Back in 2000, I thought it smelled really different. It satisfied my sudden desire for something light and clean (relative to the heavy hitters of the day). It’s nice, but I’m never in the right mood to wear it.
I’m not sure I’ll get around to Inez this week, as I have SO many intriguing samples to test, thanks to Luca Turin’s new blog. 🙂
Oooh, do tell! You know I’m usually up for a split or two 😉
Great – will let you know if I find anything essential.
I liked Incendo, the smoky one, but I don’t think I’d wear it very often: but I’m afraid I’d make people nervous if I walked around smelling that smoky, even though it’s great smoke. 😉
Wearing the fabulously delicious Vanitas by Profumum. Love this one so much.
Oh please describe!
It is a delicious vanilla and orange blossom scent, when I wear it people sniff the air and ask who is eating cookies, so it is definitely a gourmand. Some people say it’s too sweet for them but I wear Pink Sugar and Candy so that’s not a problem for me. 🙂
Profumum makes some of the few foodie perfumes that I like. And I just realized there is one vanilla I love – Voyage! Although I get more ambery spice than vanilla.
It is sweet, but sooo beautiful. I’ve almost used up my sample and have to decide what to do next.
I have a new car! Well, a new-to-me car. A week and a half ago, my old car was totaled by a tractor trailer in the rain (no injuries, thank all the deities). We found a lovely certified pre-owned replacement, same make & model but 15 years newer. Hooray!
In tribute to my new wheels, and for good luck, I’m wearing Voyage d’Hermès today. (The old car will have to settle for Lucien Lelong Tailspin when I clean it out this weekend in advance of a last trip to the junkyard.)
Oh no! Was anyone in it at the time? Glad no one was hurt, and congrats on the new car!
My friend and I were coming home from an art museum trip when my rear driver’s side tire… well, “blew out” is too mild a verb. The force of it threw the car into a tailspin in front of an 18-wheeler. He whacked us, but we were all thankfully unharmed. Whew!
How terrifying! I am so glad everyone was ok.
Me, too– oh, so much.
Thank all the deities indeed- that could have gone so very badly 🙁
No one hurt and a new car = best possible solution 🙂
A moment sooner or later, six inches to the right or left– that’s what it came down to. We were incredibly fortunate.
Whoa! That might have put me off of driving for a while. Yes, glad no one was hurt, and you have new and improved wheels.
Happy travels!
Thank you! So very happy to be road-worthy once more!
I’m glad no one was hurt, and congrats on the new car!
Many thanks. I am grateful from head to toe that we all walked away from it. Even the police were scratching their heads. What they didn’t know is that unlike most, my family counts Friday the 13th as a LUCKY day.
Yikes! Glad to hear that no one in your ride was hurt. Auto accidents suck.
Indeed they do. We were in deep shock before it really sank in. We’re recovering, though.
Glad everyone’s OK! Voyage d’Hermes was my 2nd Hermes purchase (got it when it first came out). I ended up selling the bottle and just last year bought the parfum.
Speaking of car crashes, the big Guy in the sky was watching over me big time 7.5 years ago (and still does) when a teenager ran a red light and crashed into my car at the best spot possible — the frame between the front and back doors on the passenger side. My car spun and slid lazily 450 degrees – no glass shards on me, no whiplash, no broken bones, nothing.
Wishing you many happy -and safe- ‘voyages’ in your new wheels. Glad you are O.K., what a terrifying experience.
Truth or Dare. Very well done tuberose that’s neither too loud nor too ick. Reminds me of Blonde. Except Blonde of course was !VERY VERY LOUD! and/or I used to overspray it like mad. Too bad Blonde’s discontinued. In the meantime ToD does very nicely indeed.
I think I will wear Poison Girl today. something about our recent cold weather makes me look for bold scents: Dior Homme, Bronze Goddess ( hate it in summer, love it now ), Diorissimo….and Poison Girl is the blunt instrument I need today.
“Blunt instrument” — I love it! I call them “bludgeoners”, and a friend of mine calls such scents “steamrollers”.
🙂 You guys!
Kenzo unidentified…
I smell like spicy metallic sheer incense. I smell like the future.
You do!
Morillas #3 has been Penhaligons “Blasted Heath”. I wanted to like it but I don’t think I do. The thing is, I grew up close enough to a place where ‘blasted heath’ – the purple mountains, orange grass and mother-of-pearl skies of Connemara – meets the cold Atlantic. If it smelled like anything (and my memories are more of how it looks and sounds and feels) it didn’t smell like this.
The one redeeming feature: I blasted a quick squirt after turning up almost-late for a meeting after 40-minute metro journey and 10 minutes brisk walk, and it made me smell cool and collected rather than hot and bothered. So there is something at work here that goes beyond cleaning product, but I still don’t want any more of it after this sample is gone.
You could keep what’s left as emergency backup in case you get another day like today.
Going through the list of Morillas and once again, don’t have so much as a sample on hand. I’ve only tried a couple…I used to have Omnia but it didn’t sing to me so have it to a loving new home. Geez, there are just so many perfumes to try and I’m sure I’ll never even make a dent.
Commando til after today’s swim.
Rossy de Palma for me today. Yummy
Versace Bright Crystal, it smells lovely on one of my friends, but I’m not liking it on myself.
I always compliment my friend when she wears Bright Crystal. It smells so pretty on her. On me….not so much. She can also wear Light Blue, and I turn it to mopped up sour milk.
I also heard on the radio as I was going to get lunch that it’s National Wine Day. 🙂
Can that be broadened to International wine day? Please?
Sure, I don’t see why not. 😀 In the words of Captain Picard, make it so!
And it was done…thank you
Tea for Two for me today. I’d planned to wear it yesterday when we had a “Tea for Two” afternoon tea to farewell a colleague going on maternity leave.
Wearing Voulez-Vous Couchez avec Moi from the Luckyscent Femme Fatale sample pack. I hope that the others in this little envelope are better than this one :-/. The white/yellow flowers are absolutely nuclear on me! Approaching scrub down…
A little bit goes a long way with this one. The black double snake clutch is really attractive .
The drydown was definitely an improvement, but I won’t be needing a bottle of this one!
SOTD = ELdO’s Fils de Dieu, etc… A great match for the suddenly summery weather!
Oh, and am I the only person who had the song “Barbie Girl” going thru their head after seeing that pink jacket?
Let’s go party!
You might have been. Not now though 😉
SOTD = Dior La Colle Noire
Rosey with a sweet, spicy, soapy woody dry down. I wanted to like this. Really. The rose was well blended but alas, I kept tasting soap in my mouth and the dry down came within a few hours and is an unrelenting sweet spicy soapy woody amber plus omething. Maybe I oversprayed? 4 sprtizes from a 3 mL atomizer.
In other news, I left the house with no make up (always only a light foundations or tinted BB cream to even out skin tone)! I was in a hurry to catch an earlier train to make sure I’m settled before a 7:30 call which got cancelled at the last minute – grrrr. My emergency back-up BB cream had separated so it was unsafe to use. Anyway, I ducked into a Duane Reade / Walgreens and was faced with a choice of 10 (probably more) brands and each brand had half a dozen or more different formulations AND many many shades. All these to say that despite the odds against me, I think I picked a winner: L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte in a shell porcelain shade for the unprincely sum of $15. You’re welcome 🙂
The Herald Square Rituals boutique is now open. I passed by today and got a free travel-sized shower gel and a 20% off postcard.
Yeah after praising La Colle Noire earlier this week for its smoothness, I ultimately realized I really just want to love one of those Diors in the lovely colors and bottles. I didn’t get soapy, but a light ambery rose without enough character to feel strongly about one way or the other for me. I want to love Granville too, but it’s got some artificial edge that wears on me. Sometimes the bottle isn’t enough, I guess!
Have you seen the really tiny bottles of Dior perfume oil in amber, rose, oud and musk? The bottle is so cute that one must join my collection. Not the oud as it was just too too for me.
I just read about the oud one somewhere – was it Scented Hound or Memory of Scent? – whoever it was loved it. But the price is unreal – don’t let me go near it!
Ostara again for me. Now that I have the discounted back-up on the way, I’ve been wearing with abandon. Attended a 2.5 hour graduation ceremony at Carnegie Hall for a friend who is now officially an MD. Wanted to wear something nice that might waft slightly but not offend. So happy for my friend, his wife and their baby as they head off to Nashville for residency. And for the folks in Nashville who will get some great care!
Almost too late to comment. I wore my decant of Meringa (sp? Too lazy to check) today from the last splitmeet. It was perfect for the lovely warm weather today?
However, I had a lovely package waiting for me when I got home today from the very generous Elisa. So now I am hugely enjoying a few generous spritzes of vintage Chanel Cristalle. What a beauty!
I took my lilacs with me today to a baseball game in the form of Alfred Sung Sha. Although I prefer my lilacs sans other notes and don’t really care much for mixed florals, Sha fits me like a skin scent, with a lovely lilac note rising solo occasionally above a chorus of softly muted, pale pink, pretty florals. Not what I’d usually wear to a baseball game, so I added a pale pink top to my usual black-and white baseball togs just to be in sync!
Sadly, It is POURING here tonight so I anticipate my real lilacs will all be washed away by tomorrow.
