Happy Almost-Friday, and happy Cinco de Mayo! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Luctor et Emergo by The People of the Labyrinths, aka POTL, because Janice mentioned it yesterday. Tea at the moment is an Upton Golden Monkey.
Reminder: on 5/6, wear a fragrance from Tom Ford, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Barkhane today
I am actually enjoying this spring weather in the northeast..and I know that I am in the minority here with liking these cooler temps and rainy days..but its the first real spring in a long time. Over the years its gone from winter straight into summer.
Bah humbug. I want some sun.
But really glad someone is enjoying it!
The sun just came out here in northern IN so it’s headed your way, Robin 🙂
GOOD. Really sick of grey here.
I’m with you, Lovetosmellgood! The sun angle is high enough now that as soon as the sun comes out, it becomes hot and steamy here in the DC area.
Strangely, I’m not minding it terribly right now either – it seems to match the pensiveness of my mood. And we barely had a winter, so it seems fitting to have a bit of a rainy spring.
I’m enjoying it too, LTSG. It’s nice to have a transition period before the heat and humidity of summer. The rainy cool weather gives my cold weather perfumes one last hurrah before they go into storage.
Yes, this!
I don’t mind temps in the 50s and 60s. It’s the damp, dreary, grey that’s getting to me. But very true about skipping from winter to sweltering heat. It’s nice to have an actual Spring.
Ditto for me – I don’t really mind if it’s coolish, but there’s been no sun here for about 5 or 6 days now.
I’m with Elisa. I really don’t like the heat but I miss the sun.
I’m not complaining too loudly. I like a gradual spring, and that winter-to-summer explosion is very disappointing. Just give me some sun.
Thank you for the kind words yesterday, everyone! I am actually feeling a bit better today. I celebrated by using up my Cuir de Lancome sample, thus accomplishing some of my yearly use-it-up goal.
So glad you’re feeling more cheerful!
So happy things are somewhat better today–finishing a CdL sample sounds like just the right thing to go with! 🙂
So glad to hear it, and you smell fabulous!
Glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better today!
You smell fantastic. Glad you’re feeling better today!
Yay! I’m glad you’re feeling better today.
Glad you’re in better spirits today!
Box of Eels extrait today????
Yum.
SAME HERE. And I have to tell y’all about yesterday’s conquest. I went into a little consignment shop I sometimes visit, and for the first time that I’ve noticed they had a bunch of perfume at the counter. Turns out a perfume distributor had just been there!! It was the mother lode! I ended up buying:
1. A complete coffret of five Chanel parfum minis, all full (BdI, No 5, Coco, Gardenia, and Cuir de Russie)
2. 15 ml of Opium parfum in the old tassle bottle (!!!)
3. YSL Paris (my sleuthing tells me this bottle is from the ’90s; smells amazing)
4. 24 Faubourg (not sure of vintage but it’s in a limited edition bottle so I can probably figure it out with more digging; again, smells amazing)
5. a 100 ml bottle of Angel (Hahahahaha. Just this week I had noticed I’m almost out of the little purse spray I bought six or so years ago, and was thinking I should secure more. I should be set for life now)
There was actually more stuff I wanted (Heure Exquise, Chinatown, the Gucci from 2002…) BUT I had to draw the line somewhere and the prices for in-production stuff weren’t much better than online prices.
They also had some LE Guerlain bottle, sealed, that they were selling for $800 and wouldn’t let me smell.
Congrats on such satisfying purchases! Did the Paris come with a box? The Black, red and gold boxes generally have the real deal in them. They changed the boxes somewhere in the early noughties I believe.
None of them were boxed, no, but the Paris had a sticker on the bottom with the name of the distributor and I found a Basenotes thread or some such where the packaging was all decoded by year (helpful!).
Older Paris is so much nicer than what is sold these days. I think I have about 5 back-ups. Way too many, but it’s my oldest love, and I don’t want to be without it.
Such a surprise find must have been so good!
It is SO much nicer. I don’t even like the current version of Paris.
Whaaaaaaaaaat!!
…yeah that’s all I got, I’m speechless. !!!
🙂
Amazing score!!
Whoooooooa. Amazing. Congratulations!!
Congratulations! Now I want to visit that shop!
It’s on 6th Ave in Denver!
I told them to call me next time that woman comes in 🙂
Nice score! Is the Angel the EDT or EDP?
EDP!
All the better!
Wow, what great finds, congrats!
Wow. Congrats. That’s the sort of find I thought only happened to Angie.
ha!
Wow, what great luck! (Or karma 🙂 ) Enjoy.
OMG very cool. Thanks for sharing the thrill of your conquest!
I dithered over buying that Chanel set at a department store – I think it might have been Macys or Saks- years ago. Is it the one with the mini parfums?
That’s the one. I don’t think they make this particular set anymore.
Wow! Nice haul.
Wow! Lucky duck you are!!! I’d love to get some vintage Paris!!
Wow! Congrats to you. What a score.
Wow! Now, what a find!
What great perfume karma you have! Wonderful haul. 🙂
Wow! And congratulations:-)
Waaaaa. I don’t get out enough. Of course, this is Rochester … I am very happy for you!!
I got a chill just reading about this wonderful find! So cool!
This is insanely wonderful. Congratulations!
I’m excited for you! Lots of beautiful stuff to have fun with!!
Deva, you smell awesome. I almost wore BdI today but went in another direction at that last minute.
Caramel baked apples on a cold steel tray. L’Artisan’s Deliria for me today. Looks like some of the Explosions series are coming back. Both Rappelle Toi and Amour Nocturne have reappeared on their website in those gorgeous smoky bottles…
So hard to keep track of what’s in production at L’Artisan! Thanks for the update.
It’s chilly today! COME BACK, 88 degrees!! Come baaaaaack……. 🙂
SOTD: Prada Candy. 1 spray on each forearm was too much though, and I’ve already washed my arms very lightly to quiet it down! I can still smell it…..
Can one ever have too much Candy? You’re smelling good.
Not even possible!
Check out Perfume Posse for a timely post on removing scrubbers (not that you’ve got a scrubber there, more like volume control, lol)
Perfect timing for sure!! Candy is great….but my “Perfume Grinch” coworker sits close, and I am wary of hitting him with too much sillage….. 🙂 And be sure, the office is a small room!
Prada Candy is such a nice scent. You smell great!
Lyric Man (Amouage).
And a Happy Cinco de Mayo to everyone! 🙂
Emptied my ELDO Rien sample. I was very proud to identify jasmine as a note early on, mainly because I’ve been dousing myself in A la Nuit.
. . . And jasmine twas – strong, leathery, mossy, long-lasting jasmine – to help me through hours of well-paid overtime . . . on my day off. Heh.
Nice, all in all. Might go buy a bottle now *sits on wallet*
Trap that sucker.
hahaha free the wallet!
Tom Ford Shaghai Lily. It sits quietly very close to my skin until I move. Or otherwise I became quite anosmic to it very rapidly.
Great scent but it’s a powerhouse on me
Really? Perhaps my sample is compromised somehow.
Love Shanghai lily …you smell great!
TF Tuscan leather for me today
you smell beautiful!
I really like that one as well and thought I’d wear it tomorrow, but I found my sample and it’s dry 🙁 I found it died down to a skin scent very quickly on me.
Twins! It has a big opening on me but then quiets down to a soft skin scent.
OK then my sample is fine, cause that’s what it did.
And mine came from a bottle! 🙂
I’m wearing Dark Horse. Next month I’m going to buy some of Dame’s Soliflore line, now that I’m back to buying. Any suggestions?
I haven’t worn Dark Horse very much, and I don’t know why. I just loving the cloves in this one.
I really love Dark Horse too. I’ve been buying the 5ml travel spray repeatedly. I’m supposedly downsizing so not really into getting a fb. I really love the artwork that Dame senior does on the labels, but somehow I think I would be more attracted to getting the fb if the bottle itself was more interesting and the price was a little higher. Isn’t that odd?
Their Rose de Mai is nice, if you’re in need of a straightforward, dewy-pink-type rose.
I’m still unscented and in my pjs.
Has anybody ordered fragrances on Essenza Nobile from Canada? If so, were you charged border fees? At what percentage?
I’ve only ordered from the USA but I hope someone else will reply with that info as I would like to know as well.
SOTD is Mohur because temps have dropped and it was on my coat. My coat actually left the scent on ME so maybe I should be going easier with the sprayer!?! Ha!!!!
Hey Twin!
Lol! So hard to tell these things!
Clearly you should just smell like Mohur all the time! LOL!
Working through my Il Profumo samples which are better today than previous ones I’ve tried. Today I’ve got Ginger on one hand (a spiced round citrus that might make a good summer scent) and Quai des Lices on the other ( a peculiar fruity Mimosa tobacco scent)
I love my Il Profumo sample box.
The box is so pretty ! I ordered it back in February, and I’m still making my way through it.
Today was a sunny, gorgeous 73, and instead of going to lab, I spent the day outdoors with a friend visiting from Hawaii. SOTD is Sabé Masson Né des Roses, a solid perfume that I don’t enjoy applying but do enjoy sniffing. There is so much sunshine. I don’t know what to do with myself!
enjoy the sun! and your visiting friend.
Cool day, so I’m enjoying Amouage Homage attar – Taifi rose, real oud, and frankincense.
That is soooo beautiful. You smell fantastic.
I’m wearing Tom Ford Santal Blush today (the last of my sample) – very nice. Too bad the private blends are so pricey!
this one is pretty–I love the clear flacon it comes in too…and you’re right they’re so expensive!
SOTD is Parfum d’Empire Cuir Ottoman. It’s another dark and stormy day here, but hopefully it will be a better day for me than yesterday, which was one of the most star-crossed days I have had so far this year.
Well you are smelling great for a start, so things might look up.
Thanks austenfan.
Star crossed days-yeesh! I have had those, and just simply give up and cry.
The lovely fragrance at least is a start!
Hmmm…..I think you passed that day along to me. Oh well, tomorrow it goes to some other unsuspecting, previously cheery recipient.
You smell great – I wore that yesterday.
I needed something warm today so I went with Mohr.
Mohur…
It is more 🙂
Ha!
😀
Mmm POTL. Was very lucky to have a spray of it generously shared from a friend’s sample, as I don’t think I would’ve ever bothered tracked down cherry perfume on my own, but gosh was I wrong!! That stuff is fantastic, I wish I had some.
Oh actually! Has anyone got an opinion on the EDT versus the EDP? I realize I’m not even sure which one I tried…
I don’t know anything about the EDT versus the EDP, but I can help just a little bit with the other part! I’m positive I have enough left over to share.
If I ever did know anything about it, I’ve forgotten. And don’t even know which one I have (decant).
I am def way behind on the curve on asking this question! Maybe I just need to go and get samples of each from Luckyscent–I’m sure I’d wear them 🙂
Oooh thank you!! Let’s consult by email, I have things for you as well 🙂
The edp was just a bit more concentrated but to me smelt basically the same.
Oh thank you, good to know!
SOTD is Robin’s patented layering of Eau Claire des Merveilles over Eau des Merveilles. Not sure why, because it’s chilly and a little bit rainy here today and you’d think my hand would have reached for something warmer … but no. Tomorrow’s theme is a no-brainer for me – Violet Blonde!
Patent pending 😉
Ciel d’Opale. From a sample. I’m not sure, but I think it’s great, although maybe not quite as good as Perle de Mousse, but it’s incredibly uplifting and sunny; as is the weather.
Si Lolita today, one of my easy-to-wear choices from my collection.
SOTD is TFPB Black Violet. My first love from the line and one that I often still need to go back to.
This morning, I layered Putain des Palaces with J.Crew 31 to amp up the rose. I really, really like this combination. These two are definitely getting paired up in the future.
Ohh very good idea. 31’s deep wine, almost syrup quality didn’t quite work for me but I bet PdP would give it great dimension.
Twin! I’m in PdP too (wanted to see if I could smell its rose more clearly after wearing my other rose scents. I cannot.)–I’ll bet you smell wonderful!
That sounds glorious.
I bet you smell great!
I’ve layered no. 31 over the Natori drydown, and that was super nice too. 🙂
Wearing the beautiful Bottega Veneta (the original) and hoping it helps me get a handle on my life today. Time to get organized, and hoping this will help get me in that mood. Also, I have rarely gotten so many compliments as with this one. I can’t thank Petunia enough for this decant, and hope to repay her with a nice extra in her long-delayed swap package…
BV is really just so lovely, elegant, wearable. I reach for it very often! I don’t think there is a better choice for a fragrance that is both comfy and elegant. I wear it very often. I hope things settle down for you soon.
I’m so glad that you are enjoying your decant and it’s helping you to get organized. I read your post about dropping your brand new bottle last night. Not earth shattering but distressing nonetheless. You smell lovely today.
You do smell gorgeous, hope it helps with the organization.
Perfect choice, you smell great!
Time to get organized….hmmm, just a bit busy reading NST at the moment.
Testing Papillon Salome today and I am reminded of Rochas Femme and Bal a Versailles. If you love an animalic perfume, I would highly recommend it. I am getting quite a bit of jasmine from it at the moment. In honor of this perfume, I put on my fluffy, leopard flip-flops and since I have gone hog wild, maybe I won’t get around to putting a bra on! There you have it, the power of Salome! If you toy with essential oils, never put birch tar EO on your skin. I now understand why it is such a powerful base in perfumery because after 12 hours, multiple scrubbings and a shower later, my left hand still smells like it went camping.
It is definitely powerful stuff. I too quite like Salome, and leopard print flip flops seem to suit.
I once took a cool bath in very hot weather with evergreen EOs, pine & some other needled trees. Smelled heavenly, but afterward I felt like pine needles were stabbjng me. Now I stick to non-needled evergreens like cypress & juniper. 🙂
LOL I was just picturing a hand-sized tent and sleeping bag.
The first time I wore Salome I loved it, and the second. The third time, all I got was skank. I was supposed to wear it today, but just couldn’t face it.
Wearing SSS Rose Musc instead, which is smelling great, as well as a lot and for a long time… 🙂 I will give Salome another chance in a couple days.
At Twisted Lily, WendySue sprayed Salome on her forearm and offered it up for sniffing. Still nope.
I’m wearing Memo Manoa. This smells to me nothing like its description or notes—I’m getting mostly campfire—but it’s interesting and I keep sniffing my wrist.
That line is pretty good, isn’t it? Haven’t smelled that one specifically, but I’ve spent a lot of time sniffing at their little station in Bergdorf’s.
I like several of them, including most of the leather series. Have you had a chance to sniff the limited edition Inle Iris?
Just what I was going to ask. I was considering a bottle of Inle (I love the little clouds on the bottle) but then I saw Inle Iris! Yes! Then I saw the price. OMG. However, that was my reaction the first time I saw the price of Mohur Extrait, which has proven to be the best perfume Investment I have made, so I am willing to give Inle Iris a chance. If it smells the way I think it should based upon “Inle” and “Iris” I need a bottle of, I am sure.
I’ve only tried the Inle Iris once, but it was * gorgeous.*
I have a sample of the Iris Inle and was surprised to not like it. I will have to try it again.
I love the French Leather, as well as Siwa and Inle….and can’t stand Latin Quartier, even tho it should be one of my favorite things, from the list of notes.
This is lots of opoponax on me – DH liked it more than I did.
SOTD is Puredistance M. Leather chypre is kind of a can’t-miss category for me, and this stuff’s gorgeous for sure, but I don’t even find myself wishing I had the $325 to spend on 60ml–there’s really plenty of stuff I like just as well at much, much more reasonable prices.
…not to say I won’t be delighted to use this sample ’til it’s gone! 🙂
I’ve got a sample of this somewhere. I’ve never seen such overpackaged samples, but I agree that M is very nice. The only other Puredistance fragrance that I tried was Antonia, which didn’t move me.
The packaging cracks me up a bit–something about the white satin makes me think of picking out coffins! Prob not the result they were hoping to achieve with what must have been a significant packaging budget 🙂
Coffins is right, not what they aimed for, but the link is there 😉
Will say the other one I’ve tried so far is Opardu which I did find a very lovely lilac at first–and then it dried down, at least on me, to the most generic, and rather insistent, laundry musk. Again, money saved, but I’m surprised after the glowing comments I’d heard about it–no one else has had this happen?
My experience precisely with Opardu – lilac-y lilac at first, but fading away to generic washday.
Lilac must be a really tricky note to generate…
Oh so it’s not just me! I bet you’re right about the lilac challenge, but I still can’t help feeling pretty nonplussed when a “luxury” scent winds up smelling so much like my laundry room. Like, for what they’re charging, they couldn’t get something a smidge better in the drydown? (And I say this as a person who actually has a number of scents with white musk–I think it can be a good and useful note, I just think this is a particularly flat and disappointing version, especially after the beautiful, luxe florals that precede it.)
L’eau d’Hiver again, because I couldn’t help myself. I really enjoyed it the other day. Last night I mixed apricot oil with Dans te Bras to make a perfumed body oil for myself and it was wonderful. I wish Frederic Malle would add oils to his line of body care.
You smell great today!
Wow- you smell really good! and the perfume oil idea is very smart!
He used to do oils, no? At least for Musc Ravageur–I had the impression it was really popular, wonder what happened that they don’t offer it anymore.
hmm…interesting. I’ll have to ask the sales associate about that.
Please do, anything to help the grassroots campaign to bring it back 🙂
Ooh, that combo sounds nice!
Wearing Gris Clair again today. For some reason I have a huge crush on this right now. I used to think of it as the ultimate pensive, rainy day scent and we have had what feels like an endless string of pensive rainy days of late, but even though the sun is (finally!) shining this morning, I’m still craving Gris Clair. I’ll move on for Tom Ford tomorrow.
Interesting that a few people are wearing Gris Clair right now. Maybe it’s the Springtime (assuming you are in the Northern hem.) I had a crush on it too and picked up a bottle, but found I was only wearing it once or twice a year. So I gifted it to my brother in law who seems to really like lavender.
I can see what you mean – it is simple and introspective while having an edge I think – and smells lovely.
SOTD SHL 777 Khol de Bahrein from my new decant that arrived last eve. I love this powdery, sweet thing that smells like an orris infused halvah. The guy I bought it from (for a really great price- was worried it would be off or diluted or something) kindly included a decant of No 19 edt with it. I haven’t spent much time with any of the 19s, mostly because when I test them at a perfume counter in a store, I can’t smell anything, so I thought I was anosmic to it. But testing it at home last eve, I can definitely smell it. I think all the surrounding smells in a dept store were too much competition.
KdB is on my test list too.
Khol de Bahrein – Good choice! The bottle is gorgeous but the sprayer is on the crappy side to decant properly.
Trying a sample of Huitieme Art’s Shermine this morning, and I may need to wash it off and try again with something else. “Iris like fur” sounded like a good fit for this cool, grey, impending-rain day, but it’s much sweeter than I was expecting, and a bad fit for the remnants of last night’s headache.
Technu to the rescue! Now I’m in Like This, which *still* feels too sweet. Sigh. Maybe I’m not supposed to wear perfume today.
What is Technu?
A skin cleanser for washing off poison ivy/oak residue before you get a rash. I keep it in my first aid kit in my car.
Good to know about Technu!
It’s the bomb for taking off unwanted perfume, as its function is to completely strip oils from the skin.
Thanks guys! Had never heard of it.
Isabella, you have cured my campfire hand. I have Technu and it removed the birch tar EO, good as new!
Wearing Bronze Goddess cream, despite the rain. Bought the body oil yesterday to put over self tanner as I bought my first skirts in ages this week. My legs aren’t my favorite body part, but if I don’t uncover them they’ll be ghostly forever…
The cream always smells so good and seems to linger forever.
Oh, I remember the Luctor et Emergo hype! I wasn’t *that* wowed when I landed a decant, but I still got a little buzz by it. A Play-dough buzz with a little green twist.
Spring has finally hit Stockholm with a vengeance and I go against the grain by wearing Nuit de Noêl.
Well, I’ve voted most of my perfumes off the island at this point. The survivors are Chanel 19 EDP and vintage parfum, and Parfum Sacre EDP and there is a spot for one more but I haven’t decided what that will be (possibly OJ Woman). In any case, I’m filling up a box with items for the upcoming freebie meet in June.
SOTD: OJ Woman
Holy cow you are very disciplined about your fragrances. I am impressed. Every year I try to offload a few stragglers, but you are a real inspiration. I applaud your choices – No 19 and PS are very beautiful.
Thank you! I started out with perfume looking for a signature scent and then really went down the rabbit hole. So now I’m doing the process in reverse I guess.
Ironically it was Chanel 19 that got me started in the first place – I smelled it on a woman in the art supply store and it brought back memories because my mom used to wear it. After trying and buying so many frags over the last few years, I’m reducing my collection back down to Chanel 19. I guess a single step ends a journey of a thousand miles.
♡
Very cool
🙂 You found what you really like! Very inspirational. I think my three island fragances would be Mohur Extrait, Tam Dao, and Iris Poudre – or maybe Inle Iris after I smell it. 🙂
Morning, all, from Wakeful Waterdragon. Stuff’s going down at work again, so I haven’t been much aware of my perfumes. I think I wore Traversee twice in a row out of pure absent-mindedness. So, it’s Friday already here, and I’ve been thinking what I will spray when the day begins properly. I’m torn between TF Noir and TF Violet Blonde–maybe it should be VB for the very silly reason that I like it less, and it is therefore a challenge to learn it. On the other hand, the day looks busy and uncomfortable, so perhaps I should wear a perfume that fits me properly. Oh, I dunno…I think what I should do is go to sleep. Be well and deliciously scented, everyone.
I love both Noir and VB, and would be torn between both! Please have a good Friday where you are!
Wear something that makes you feel good I should say. Have good day, and some sleep.
I wanted something warm and cheerful today to offset our gray cold drizzle, so I went with TM Alien Essence Absolue.
A personal favorite. You smell lovely!
SOTD: LUSH Ladyboy, because it was at the bottom of my purse. Also wearing a hand loomed chalina rebozo and a brass milagros charm bracelet in honor of Cinco de Mayo.
Thanks go out to everyone for their support/advice re: my shingles scare earlier this week– turned out to be a weird but not unheard-of pharma side effect, thank heavens.
Oh, glad to hear it isn’t shingles.
So was I! 🙂
Hope you’re comfy-er.
Much, much comfy-er, thanks!
Thank goodness! I’m so glad it’s not shingles. Those “weird but not unheard-of pharma side effects” are so not cool! I hope it all sorts itself out for you.
Thank you– I’m just glad there is a solid explanation for it– even if it IS quite unpleasant, it ought to be short lived. It’s already diminishing, as I adjust.
Yay.
Word! 😀
Good news! But not a nice side-effect 🙁
Very much not nice, ’tis true. I must keep chanting: “The benefits outweigh the setbacks, the benefits outweigh the setbacks…”
Yay, but I hope the side effect wears off quickly.
It’s much more tolerable today, thanks.
It’s my Friday so doing the Community Project today!
SOTD = Tom Ford Amber Absolute layered with Indult Tihota
I am walking in a bubble of deliciousness. Having learned from previous experiments, I used 2 mini spritzes of Amber Absolute and 2 generous sprays of Tihota. Perfection!
What’s Tihota like? I fell in love with the only fragrance I tried from them, Reve en cuir, and now want to sample more.
Tihota is sweet voluptuous vanilla and musk. What you spritz on in the morning is the same as what you’ll smell at the end of the day, just softer as it fades away.
Oh, my. I bet you smell lovely!
Thank you dear!
That sounds good! Must give it a try.
Definitely need a light hand on Amber Absolute!
Grand Néroli for me today. After the last few days of 30C (85F) highs, today’s 20C is going to feel pretty nice. What I really want is rain though. It has been such a dry Spring and wildfire season is off to an early, nasty start. Please send your unwanted rain this way.
Make that 86F to be precise.
We’ve been having endless days of gray skies and rain on the US East Coast. I’d love to share some of our weather with you. I miss the sun. The high here today* is 50 degrees or 10C. The ornamental trees here are on the verge of blooming but it would be a shame if they do so while it’s raining. It’s something that I look forward to every year.
Wearing 1826 today…which smells medicinal to me…sweetly medicinal.
I bought the Histoires de Parfums sample set and, I’ve only tried two, but so far I’m quite meh on them…
The Ormonde Jayne sample set is enroute and I am hoping for some wow w/ that one.
SOTD is Airport, again; but for fun this time — headed to Hawaii. Aloha!
Have a happy trip.
Bon voyage!
Lucky dog! Have a great time.
how wonderful! have fun!!
I am late commenting today. SOTD is TF “Italian Cypress”. It’s fresh and green, maybe a bit soapy. I think I already have nicer things in this ecological niche.
I have a party in the West End tonight so will be changing to a blazer and chinos, and re-spraying with TF “Ombre Hyacinth”. I’m quite enjoying a week of Tom Ford stuff. :^)
l’Ete en Douce for today, for the hay note. Very pretty, and while I don’t usually go in for something that is so weighted towards ‘clean’, this one could be an easy, go-to everyday selection. If I recall correctly, ‘dryer sheet’ was thrown about a lot when it came out, but dryer sheets must be swinging some other direction these days 🙂
Have a good one, everybody!
Sounds lovely!
I have heard nice things about this one!
Wearing TF Soleil Blanc. We have a hazy sunny day here, but it should be quite warm, so I wanted something that says summer to me.
How do you find that one?
Commando at the moment since I’ve been pretty lazy today and about to get in the shower. But I am going to wear vintage Bal. I have so many bottles of it, I need to use up a bottle.
Cinco de Mayo! When the French tried and failed to conquer Mexico- and it was this series of events that seemed to have turned Mexico from being a European held colony to asserting itself as it’s own nation. I really did not get it until a few years ago, when doing family research and I started reading about the different countries in Central America.
SOTD: A blend: Lust from Lush and a couple of spritzes of TF Grey Vetiver from a bottle I ‘liberated’ from an ex boyfriend. I smell lovely for this mild and beautiful spring morning. I used to have a perfume called Boyfriend by Kate Walsh that did this same thing.
OOTD : A colorful embroidered ‘peasant top and indigo pants.
I’m wearing DK Gold today to try and decide if I’m keeping it. I like lily, have the TF and the VC&A, but Gold doesn’t move me and space in the perfume cabinet is increasingly tight. I’ll never get to as few perfumes as Sajini, but I’d like to have less than 100.
Gah, I need to cut down too. I’m just scared of selling stuff on ebay. (Gold might make my cut, but it would matter that I don’t have the TF.)
FWIW I was also wary about selling stuff on eBay but it’s all turned out fine for the half dozen things I’ve sold, even in the one case where I actually did screw something up–an apology and some extra samples solved the problem so well, the buyer sent me a thank you postcard!
I haven’t had any problems selling on ebay either. It’s just a pain to take the photos and do the write-up for a frag that didn’t cost a lot in the first place that isn’t going to sell for much, and obscure scents can take a long time to sell.
I’ve sold several things on eBay over the years and it’s kind of time-consuming to put the ad together, take a picture and then after it sells, the shipping piece. Then eBay takes a cut that always kind of shocks me (can’t remember how much but it always seemed like too much). I joined Facebook Fragrance Friends and I’m schmoozing around in there a bit before I put up my items for sale.
Feeling enlivened by a fairly generous spraying of lady vengeance today. Might be a bit heavy for the glorious sun London is enjoying but goes with the ootd – silky bronze fitted shirt with dark khaki pencil skirt.
You look and smell very sleek and fab!
Thank you! I am really intrigued by your combination of Lush Lust and Grey Vetiver – it sounds really good and a great match for the outfit.
Misia again today, felt like violets and Iris today.
You smell fabulous.
And quite Rich Lady…
The up-and-down erratic nature of our weather has left me indecisive fragrancewise today, nothing in my current rotation appeals to me. So I just reached out and grabbed the first bottle, philosophy Falling in Love, and it’ll do – sweet and clean and inoffensive – and that’s enough for me today.
Cool-ish morning, wearing Bois de Paradis. The work day is going okay, despite not having an actual cup of mulled wine by my side.
Man, that is exactly what I need today!
You smell great. I really really like this one. You?
I like it, but I usually wear it just in the winter. At that point, if I do spritz too much I can blame it on an office party…
Yes definitely cold weather perfume to me, but it’s freezing and wet where I am so seems appropriate.
¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
It’s also Revenge of the Fifth (i.e. the ‘sequel’ to May the Fourth). So I’m wearing Lonesome Rider because it’s my most Sith-like fragrance. (You know, there’s always only two? So they’d be pretty lonesome.)
Story from Star Wars Day yesterday: At the grocery store I saw a woman with four kids–the oldest around 6–all of whom were in little Jedi costumes. It was so cute!
Sounds darling. I love enjoying other people’s kids – such a carefree luxury!
Yes, cuteness for free!
Hahaha! Very good!
Thanks!
Really down today for personal reasons, but the drippy gloom is not helping. And the back triangle window on my minivan (I call him Stevie Ray Van) got stuck OPEN last week, so I have duct-taped a trashbag over it. Gonna feel pretty stupid driving it 20 miles to schedule a driver improvement class for my 17yo son (who got caught in the Ugly Zone where the speed limit jumps from 35mph to 55, anticipating the higher speed GAH, and you can bet we’re getting him to pay for this himself).
Cuir de Lancome IS helping.
I’m there with you, mals. Though SRV gave me a chuckle, thanks. Hang in there.
If it helps, you smell like a woman who takes care of business. Dang, you ARE a woman who takes care of business, trash bag window or not!! 🙂
Aw, sorry mals. I hope whatever ails you will let up soon. Sending a big hug.
Stevie Ray Van! ???? You smell lovely, so let that Lancôme do its work and lift you up to feeling better.
CdL is just lovely and perfect for a day when you need some oomph.
I love your car’s nickname. Very cute and funny!
I hope you are feeling better.
I don’t think I have ever named any of my cars and you’ve inspired me to consider doing it! I’m sending sunshiney thoughts your way.
Gucci Rush for me. Other than having the Tom Ford loud signature, this could have come from the CdG Series 6 Synthetic. It is hard to imagine something this odd coming from a major fashion house anymore. Tom Ford himself doesn’t send out things this unusual.
I am drinking some iced Chinese green, Meng Ding Gan Lu.
SOTD is L’eau d’Hiver. It’s one of those rare 100ml bottles in my collection that actually gets a lot of use. Also matches the grey weather we’re having (and that I’m LOVING).
I love it when I make some headway on one of my big bottles. Lately been doing pretty well with my Jardin en Med. The JCEs lend themselves to frequent wear I think–so easy-going, never something you have to stop and ask, “Do I really want to commit to this today?” before you spritz it on. (Plus of course, just being fairly light means you’ll use more of it!)
SO true!
SOTD; Lys Mediteranee, Frederick Malle, I like this one but don’t love it, my wallet, and ever growing want list breathes a sigh of relief.
It’s been a beautiful sunny day here, and took the dog, my little boy & mother in law for a walk and picnic in the fields behind our cottage. I was really able to enjoy the sunshine, and felt really relaxed for the first time in a couple of weeks.
Feel the same way about FM LM. It’s certainly nice but I don’t need it, thank heavens 🙂
One of the few FM’s I feel I don’t ‘need’!
Yes, I agree with you both.
I want a cottage with fields behind it.
ditto
It’s a very tiny one Holly, but it is a beautiful location!
What a fantastic day and Lys sounds a good scent for it, interestingly it’s one I get a surprising number of compliments on but only wear my sample in what feels like holiday weather.
I can see that it would be a perfect holiday perfume!
Sounds heavenly.
Wearing Narciso EDP today, matched the sharp sun and nice day.
Thinking about wearing some Tom Ford now, I have a large decant of Purple Patchouli that’s getting little wear.
Ooh, jealous of your Purple Patchouli. I heard it’s fantastic but sadly discontinued.
Yes, it is so sad it’s gone, and I think maybe that’s the reason why I’m not using it so much that I would like. Well, that’s gonna change now 🙂 Reminds me of Black Orchid in a way.
Will be in Wonderwood today….from a spray at the store as I don’t own it. Got up at 5 to try and catch a glimpse of the meterorite showers. Perfect clear night sky…southern cross, orion etc. then back to bed withcoffee, toast and ginger marmalade and the latest downloaded issue of Vanity Fair. Bliss.
Ginger marmalade! On hot buttered toast? Oh, the envy…I’m resolutely wrestling with my porkiness, but I could so yield to drip-dry toast and marmalade!
I could eat breakfast 3X a day and forget about the other meals. Hey, not long till your birthday and Melbourne!
Ditto! Tea and toast is my favourite meal. 🙂
With scrambled eggs! Count me in!
I know! And I am deyptermibec not to whine on about all the STUFF in the meantime. It’s all very mere, but doable. Especially when I sleep!
Good luck with remaining deyptermibec!
It’s a bank holiday in Belgium, so I’ve been to see the blooming almond trees in the morning and then did quite a bit of reading and drinking matcha lattes. As a consequense I’ve completely forgot to comment.
Anyway, wearing Hiram Green Voyage (thanks to Hamamelis, again). It’s very nice, especially the drydown. Maybe because it’s spring, I feel like trying and testing everything, so I immediately ordered 5ml of Shangri La and Moon Bloom and also a Regime des Fleurs sample set that I’ve been coveting for ages. I’m also putting together my first STC order, as they carry Erik Buterbaugh. Very excited!
Sounds like a lovely day!
I’ve been hoping that STC would do a special for Mother’s Day this Sunday, although I need more samples like a hole in the head.
I really like Voyage and am also very tempted by the EB florals on the basis of the eaumg reviews this week. Curious what you think of Shangra-La and Moonbloom. The former to me is a delicious fruity chypre, but a little too much fruit for my personal taste. And I can tell Moonbloom is good; I just can’t wear it. I think Carnal Flower maybe the rare tuberose for me.
Same for me for Moonbloom.
Amy, have you tried Bvlgari Man in Black? It is tuberose without the tuberose smell :-). It’s available at Sephora.
No I’ll have to give it a try next time I’m in its proximity!
I really liked Moonbloom but I prefer Carnal Flower…
Sounds like a glorious day and how civilised to have a bank holiday mid week. Will be curious to hear reports on the samples, I am intrigued by a number of these.
Books, perfume, matcha lattes….what could be better than that on a Thursday?
Great day! and isn’t the weather suddenly glorious? I think you’ll like Moon Bloom, but if you own Carnal Flower it feels rather superfluous, at least to me.
I recognise the urge for more perfume as well. I finally caved in and ordered the Parfums de Rosine sampler. Enjoy your perfumes and lattes!
I really like the TF Soleil Blanc (in response to a question earlier about it). When I first put it on, I get some coconut and a little soapiness (none of it in a bad way). Then, a light POTL Luctor et Emergo kind of smell follows. After that and for the rest of the wearing, I get sort of a dry woody vanilla group of notes and I really like that. At this point, it reminds me of Vanille 44. The very first time I wore it out somewhere
(local greenhouse), someone complimented me on it and wanted to know what it was. Guess that means it was good on me!
Ooh thank you that was me. Will try it this weekend I am so curious about Vanille 44 this has really piqued my interest now.
Gosh that is a pretty good endorsement, I will have to try it!
Bombay Bling minus the bling. My sample from Neela’s set is pretty much dried out, so I guess it’s missing the top notes. Oddly, it was very woody on me for the first couple of hours, and now some of the fruit is just barely peeking through.
My entire house smells like Diptyque Essences Insensees Mimosa due to a damaged bottle arriving from eBay a couple of weeks ago. When the carrier delivered it, the box reeked and upon opening it, the bottle was completely empty. Not. A. Drop. So the seller turned out to be a jerk about it, and I had to wait several days for eBay to step in. In the meantime, I carried the box from room to room, and when eBay stepped in and confirmed my full refund I printed out the label and went to the post office feeling smug. Nyah nyah, mean seller!
Welp, two days later the carrier is standing outside my door with a huge grin and holding THE box which was still reeking (although he said “it sure does smell mighty nice and now everyone else’s mail does too!) The label eBay sent did not cover the postage for the box, which was a priority box. Sigh …
So back to the post office, car now reeking as well, where I was advised to transfer the perfume into a new box to return it without paying postage. Then back home with THE box which I have inexplicably kept. I don’t know if I will ever pursue buying the perfume again, so maybe holding onto the box is as close as I’ll come. I’m not sure I even *want* to come any closer at this point. 😉
Worst eBay nightmare realized! And I am sorry your Bombay lost it’s Bling. When it’s right, I love it.
You’re funny 🙂 I also had a misadventure on ebay recently, they sold me Organza Indicency but what arrived was plain Organza… between trying to get either ebay or them to pay for shipping back and generally life, I think I am already past all reasonable return time limits… oh well
That experience would sour me on the perfume forever! Sorry you had to go through it, smelly box and all.
But at least you have a new perfume: Bomboy Box!
I hate dealing with this kind of stuff but you managed with aplomb!
Another day in leather and violet: Jolie Madame edt. At this rate I may have to wear Violet Blonde tomorrow!
Do you have the vintage or the modern version?
The bottle is about 10 years old, so not vintage, but still smells very nice.
I love Jolie Madame, you smell great
You sure love your violets 😉
It’s become an obsession… I am now trying to track down a bottle of Compagnie de Provence Violet body lotion. 🙂
I am so slow…I thought your were describing your outfit…violet and leather.
SSS Rose Musc. Smells great, but I have to admit, sometimes it does start to wear me down a bit. Recently received a sample Champagne de Bois by this house, which I love as well. Maybe I will wear that tomorrow…
Rose Musc is my favourite of the line. It might be getting edged out by Velvet Rose and Oud, though.
Heeley L’Amandiere prompted by BdJ column on spring pastels. It is beautiful and I might need a FB. Wish it were less pricy, of course. Other lindens to try? Pretty Machine isn’t doing it for me, which may be the only other I’ve tried.
L’Amandiere is really pretty! I was given a sample of it, and I was wary at first because almond and I don’t always get along, but it’s a pretty, grassy green on me. As for lindens.. I don’t think Tauer’s still making Zeta anymore, or I would suggest that one. I didn’t love Pretty Machine either, though I wanted to, even if only for the name. The only other linden I can think of is Tokyo Milk Waltz. I haven’t smelled it in a long time, but I remember liking it.
I still have Waltz. Never knew what I loved about it until now. Thanks, sweetgrass.
Sounds like another one I have to try!
Have you ever tried the Roger et Gallet linden soaps? Very true to nature.
No I’ll have to go find! I think L’Amandiere gives me a headache, sadly, although it could also be all this rain.
I had a bit of a sweet tooth this morning, so I went with Cacharel Amor Amor.
Yay! the sun is out today! I am wearing Laura Mercier Eau Gourmande Vanille today. I am at the very end of my second bottle, and was considering retiring it after today. I still love it though, and received 2 compliments, so perhaps I should just restock it.
Oh, I think finishing a bottle (let alone two!) is the best reason to buy another one–you’ve definitely proven you like the scent enough to wear it regularly! 🙂
I had a Laura Mercier coconut perfume. It was like toasted coconut, so kind of dry rather than sweet. Very simple but nice.
Finally sprayed myself with Apres L’Ondee, hoping it will help end the rain soon. Actually, don’t mind the rain, or it being cool outside, as much as I’m worried that we won’t have our full dose of summer starting on Memorial Day.
Went to the Met Opera HD broadcast of Elektra today and thought it was great in a minimal way. Apres L’Ondee accompanied me.
Bank holiday here too and a beautiful sunny May day too. But unfortunately I woke up grumpy and he refused to leave. Ah well..SOTD was FM Geranium, lovely mint and all. Didn’t seem to last too long though.
Finally received a sample pack of Sammarco scents from Indie Scents and testing out Bond-T. So far, there is a TON of dark chocolate in the opening, which I love.
But since Sammarco is a (mostly) natural line, it has that “natural” smell to it… I’ve come across the same thing in Aftelier and SSS perfumes too and I sometimes can’t get past the “hippy” connotation, despite how beautiful the fragrance might be. Anyone know what it is that causes this, exactly?
I think that many people may associate base notes with hippies. Patchouli comes to mind, along with sandalwood, oud, ambergris, animalics and so on. Their depth and tenacity is necessary to ground a natural formula, as the top and middle notes in eos tend to dissipate rather quickly. Sometimes that results in a bottom-heavy murky effect. I happen to adore many natural lines, but often the ones I love are the ones that are quite fleeting on skin.
I get a sort of animalic airy antiseptic in natural perfumes. That said, i enjoy Aftelier Cuir de Gardenia (I have a mini mini) which is probably the most animalic I would go.
I’m wearing Crabtree & Evelyn Lily today.
I dropped my iphone just the the right way last night, and cracked the screen big time. I brought it in today to get it fixed, and there was a Crabtree & Evelyn right next to Apple Store. I gave myself a boost of Lily, to reinforce the sprays I applied earlier in the morning.
I hope they were able to fix it! I’m debating if I should switch to the larger iPhone 6 at the expense of purse real estate.
yes, they were able to fix it for $109. I was so mad at myself for dropping the phone last night. I had it balanced on top of folded clothes, and my nook tablet to bring upstairs for the night. Dumb mistake. When it fell, I could hear it crack. My daughter could hear it from two rooms over. I should have shoved it in my pocket.
The good thing was while they were fixing it, I walked around the mall sampling different fragrances 🙂
I love my iPhone 6s+… The bigger screen is nicer for reading text and viewing photos. It is wider but thinner than the older iPhones so it doesn’t cause me purse problems, but I also carry largish hobo bags so if you are into small structured bags it may not work for you.
