Up for grabs: The Different Company De Bachmakov

Posted by Robin on 20 April 2016 92 Comments — Comments are closed

The Different Company De Bachmakov

What is it: a bottle of The Different Company De Bachmakov, in the new "Juste Chic" 100 ml refillable bottle, unopened and unused.

How do I get it: For a chance to win, leave a comment on the website telling me that you live in the US (or that you can provide a US mailing address). Then tell me either a) your favorite fragrance from The Different Company, or b) the best niche fragrance of 2016 (so far), or c) something else you've been dying to post in a comment.

Be sure to use the “Post a comment” box; do not reply to another comment! All replies to comments will be deleted!

The contest will be open until noon or so next Wednesday, and I'll announce the winner next Thursday.

The fine print: Don't enter the contest unless I have permission to use the email address in your reader account to contact you. If the email address in your reader account is incorrect, you might want to fix it. If you are the winner and you fail to send me your mailing details within a couple weeks, I’ll give your prize away to someone else. Sadly, it sometimes usually takes me a month to mail a package. Reasonable care will be taken in the packaging and mailing of your prize, but if the contents are lost or damaged or fail to please you for any reason whatsoever, I’m sorry but I cannot replace them.

Hi Robin! Thank you so much for yet another opportunity to win a great fragrance! You are so awesome!
I live in the US. My favorite scent from The Different Company is “Tokyo Bloom”. Its a “clean” floral….I like that!
I got a sample from my Olfactiv subscription months ago. This was one that I put on my list to get a FB.

I do live in the US, and this is one I’ve always wanted to try. My favorite TDC fragrance is probably Sens & Bois. I have to be honest, I haven’t smelled anything new yet this year…sheer perfume laziness I guess! Thank you, Robin.

    I have to comment with all 3 options….I’m a chit-chatter! :)

    A. I haven’t tried The Different Company….yet!
    B. Favorite niche so far in 2016: Note’s White Pepper Mandarin
    C. How do y’all feel about perfume “dupes”? Example, dollar store Five Below has a whole shelf of perfume knockoffs that smell pretty decent, and really close to the designer brand. Have y’all ever bought a dupe?

    Good luck everyone!!! :)

Thanks for the giveaway – I’m in the US! From TDC I’ve only tried Tokyo Bloom – but I really enjoyed that one. It reminds me a little of Inflorescence maybe? But my memory could be playing tricks on me. As for Niche 2016… well I never know when anything was released!

Yes I’m in US, and I actually have not smelled anything by different company. Don’t know when it was released, but my currently absolutely favourite smell is Indult’s Reve en Cuir. After much agonizing over the price of a full bottle, i finally found, thanks to the post here, that it can be had much cheaper from Europe, and promptly ordered :)

My favourite perfume from this line is in fact the one up for grabs :), in fact, it is the only I really liked so far… not many chances to smell theme here in London, but this one took my breath away on the first encounter…
    Many thanks for the drawing!!

I live in the US. I haven’t sampled anything by TDC. For some reason I’ve mostly sampled vintage fragrances recently. However, I did sample the new Orlov scents including Cross of Asia which I thought was the best of the set.

  46. BigslyFragrance says:
    20 April 2016 at 7:14 pm

I live in the USA. I’ve only tried Sel de Vetiver from TDC, and I was a newbie with high sensitivity at the time, so I didn’t like it, but I wish I still had that sample because I’ve be curious to know if I’d like it now. My guess it that it wouldn’t be complex and/or smooth enough, given that I don’t like strong vetiver, saltiness, or fennel/licorice.

  47. FearsMice says:

I live in the US. I like several TDC perfumes; in fact, I think their name is perfect, because I find their creative approach quite novel. My two favorites are Oriental Lounge – the curry leaf is exotic and unique – and De Bachmakov. I have gone through a number of samples of the latter, and own a small bottle of the former. Thank you for the opportunity!

I have been wanting to share that during a visit to Disneyland last week I came across a perfume shop inside Disneyland! Unfortunately they were closed when I finally had a chance to peek in the windows. It looks like they carry a number of mainstream fragrances and also saw Acqua di Parma.

The first Different Co. I bought was a small box of three travel size bottles of bergamont. I sent one to my twin sister. She loved it. With all the perfumes I offer her she never asks for any but that lonely one scent. I on the other would love to try more of theirs :)

OMG!!! I love De Bachmakov and have wanted a bottle since its release. Awesome! I think Le Labo The Noir 29 is a lovely new niche fragrance, but I’m more excited by the latest Hermes releases to be honest. I live in the US and can provide a US mailing address.

I am in the US. Although it might be nice to be elsewhere at the moment. Spring in Prague is on my Someday, Somehow, Somewhere list.

I’ll take option c as I am in need of confession. I have entered the bottle-obsession stage of fragrance-life. I have been spending ridiculous amounts of time picking up perfume bottles to enjoy their shape, their heft or daintiness, their smooth surfaces and sharp edges, their label’s colors and lettering, while clicking caps on and off and generally obsessing over packaging. Gah. This is really eating into my free time.

  60. Koyel says:
    21 April 2016 at 5:43 am

I have a US address! (a) All I’ve tried are South Bay and Kashan Rose, so…I guess my favorite is Kashan Rose! (b) Oh my goodness, I don’t know what’s come out this year. I will just give my favorite niche fragrance ever. Or maybe I won’t because there are so many spectacular ones. LADDM springs to mind. Or Safran Troublant. Or Mohur. This is too hard. (c) I’ve been dying to find out if there’s a way to ensure that I receive e-mail notifications of replies to my comments! I get notifications at best 1/10 of the time (I assume that number is even smaller, since I don’t necessarily see all the replies).

I understand, that it was (a), (b), OR (c), but since you didn’t specify that it was a XOR, I decided to answer all three :) I hope to try out this scent; thanks!

Thanks, Robin. I live in the U.S. and you can use my email. From TDC, I really like De Bachmakov. I also enjoy Sel De Vetiver. As far as new niche releases, I am a fan of Every Storm Serenade from Imaginary Authors (although I believe it was released at the end of 2015). I actually quite like many of Imaginary Authors fragrances.

My favorite scent from TDC is a tie between Bois d’Iris and de Bachmakov. I saved up for a FB last year and had a terrible time deciding. In the end, I went with Bois d’Iris, and have often thought I chose wrong — I rarely wear it, which may just mean that I have fallen hard for other irises, or that, without a very cold winter, I just haven’t wanted a scent that, to me, reads quite that “warm.”

Comment I have wanted to post: how on earth do all of you manage your samples? I know about the concept of the “purgatory basket,” but I have a hard time making myself re-try something I didn’t love the first time, when there are five or ten options that will make me happy all day!

I do indeed live in the US. Have not yet sniffed anything from TDC, but I would love to have the chance. Though I’m not sure it would be considered niche, and I believe was technically launched in 2015 (but in fairness, it has just arrived stateside this month), I am pretty excited about Kerbside Violet.

I live in the US. my favorite TDC is Pure Virgin. However there are others in the line that I like also. The best release so far for 2016 imo is Aedes Cierge de Lune and I love both new Hermes Eau de Neroli Dore and Rhubarbe Ecarlate, they are very different from each other but I will get a lot of wear out of those in the warmer month. I am just getting disgusted with the ever rising prices of fragrances to the point where $150 is the new free. And I feel there are so many fragrances out there that are more art vs wearable.

I am in the U.S., and this makes me realize I have smelled very few 2016 releases! But I enjoyed Fruitchouli Flash a lot :)

I am always curious to try more fragrances from TDC. My favorites so far are Jasmin De Nuit and Bois D’Iris. De Bachmakov looks like a great scent for spring and summer. I live in the U.S.

Thanks for this giveaway!! I live in the US, and my favorite TDC is de Bachmakov. Shiso, clear cold chalk–it’s fascinating. My favorite niche scent to try in 2016 has been Lubin’s Upper Ten for Her (is Lubin niche?). Thanks for having this generous drawing, Robin.
