Monday! Sorry folks. It's also Piet Mondrian's birthday, the-day-after-the-end-of-Downton-Abbey,* and, apparently, National Cereal Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L.I.L.Y by Stella McCartney. Tea at the moment: Kusmi Smoky Earl Grey.
Reminder: 3/11 will be Forgotten Friday...dig around in the back of the cabinet, find something, be it a bottle or decant or sample, that you'd forgotten you owned or forgotten to wear. (suggested by ajda)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

* Ok, did everyone but me know that Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) and Michael Fox (Andy the Footman) are dating?
Reached for Laura Biagiotti’s Venezia today. Plummy, vanilla, ambery goodness. For someone who can’t stand plums in real life (the texture horrifies me) I do love a lot of plummy scents.
Excellent choice. I bought Venezia on my first trip to Europe, when I was 16. I chose it mostly for the name, but I ended up loving the scent!
Sounds like a lovely association. Did you go to Venice on your first trip?
I did, though I don’t think I bought it there. I think I must have picked up Venezia at the duty-free.
Yum, that sounds really nice, plum is one of my favourite notes as well. Hopefully I’ll get around to trying this one, and Natori, too at some point.
If you were in the States, I’d send you some of both in a heartbeat. Both are great.
What are some of your other plummy favorites?
I really love plum japonaise, as an alternative to FDB, which is rather weak on me, also , le Parfum de Therese, Liasons Dangereuse, & AG’s mon parfum cherie par camille is my most recent plum discovery!
That’s very kind of u! never mind tho, I will let u know what I think of them when I do find them tho.
MPCPC is so good!
You smell glorious – I too wore that as a signature when it first came out and was thrilled to discover it had been re-issued. I still really enjoy wearing the re-issued one.
A testament to the quality of the reformulation when you still like it – that’s good to hear!
I’ve never heard of this one, but it sounds lovely.
Would you like to try some?
This is where I sarcastically say, “Oh twist my arm why don’t you!” 😉
Of course! I looked up the notes for it and it seems quite intense.
I’m at mary (the letter kay) brunner, all one word, at Geemale. Hopefully I can send you and Petunia your packages this week!
This is funny, because plums are one of my very favorite fruits. And I do love plum scent in perfumes, especially when combined with rose.
I am ashamed of my plum-hate.
What are some of your favorite plummy roses?
Ineke’s Briar Rose, which should smell of berries and roses but actually smells of plums, wood and rose. Very lovely.
I like this one a lot too. Not sure why I don’t own something bigger than the sample.
I had a bottle of this in my early 20s. I loved it! It made me feel all European and sophisticated. At that time in my life I was yearning rather seriously and wishing just as much that I could live and work in France or Germany…..I’d come back from study abroad with Europe on the brain. Venezia seemed to fit the bill!
And now I’m picturing a romantic 22 year old Ann, imagining continental adventure while spritzing from that bottle.
At 22, I might have been wearing the remnants of my Gap Om and Emporio Armani, and wondering what else was out there.
I was always kind of a 35 year old trapped in a young person’s body, lol!
How do you feel about cooked plums? I used to have a *very* prolific prune plum tree in my backyard, and I liked to brown a little butter and sugar in a pan and gently sautee the halved plums for a couple of minutes, and then flame them with a wee splash of brandy — I think the result, nestled into almond cream tartes or spooned over ice cream, could make a convert of the staunchest plum hater!
You sound like a wonderful cook. I am a fairly adventurous eater otherwise (I’ve eaten pigs feet stewed with plums, which gave a nice sweetness to the meat), and I have worked hard to try to rid myself of my distaste for the texture of peaches and plums, but I’m not there just yet. Hopefully one day I will be able to enjoy a beautiful dish like the one you’ve described.
Agreed. Ditto apricots.
So it’s not just me!! I’ve actually met a few other people with this issue. Have you?
Isabella, you just described literally one of my favorite dishes! I love broiled prune plums with some butter! Folded in with almond cream in a tart, or just topped with yogurt and sliced almonds…yum!
‘Where I live, there are lots of prolific but underloved plum trees- and there is such a variety! We even have damsons and mirebelles out here. So I wind up making beautiful jam and stuffing cakes and tarts with it.
How nice! We have lots of feral rootstock plums around here that are great for jam, and a big abandoned orchard nearby for all kinds of neglected goodies. Three cheers for free fruit!
Hear, hear!
I think prunes were more popular years ago, as was canned apricots and cherries back in the day. So now there are all these abandoned trees that right by new suburban developments. Some people see them as being messy; I see tarts, cake filling and flavored brandy.
Fracas de Robert Piguet, feeling subversive today. 😉
Do tuberoses have a subtle coconut aroma IRL ?
Hey, me too!
Well, not the subversive part. But the Fracas part.
I showered with Fracas shower creamy this morning, so partial twins! I think it does have a coconutty facet. I believe they add coconut to some white florals to enhance them- I’m pretty sure Carnal Flower has some coconut bits.
In any event, you smell subversively terrific!
I think they do. I bought some cut tuberose at Whole Foods once, and I noticed a hint of coconut in the scent. It was really nice to have in my apartment. I was afraid the scent would be overpowering but it really wasn’t.
Bear, I think you are right that tuberose perfumes can have a coconut note. Some examples would be BK Beyond Love (joyous tuberose), L’AP Nuit de Tuberose, and HdP Vamp a New York.
I almost always detect coconut with tuberose, which is a slight turnoff for me. Tuberose Criminelle avoids it with the awesome camphor abrasion at the opening and Carnal Flower is very green to me and so I don’t smell coconut there. But in almost all the other tuberoses I’ve tried I get it.
Thanks for the replies, everyone!
I think most (but not all) perfumers enhance the
inherent coconut aroma in tuberose by adding it
to their formulations.
It is subtle in Fracas, the tuberose is more buttery
on my skin. YMMV
I’m in Lancome Mille & Une Roses. Love this. But wondering if Stella will be a decent alternative once I’m finished with this bottle. Interesting that I’m searching online for Stella edp Absolute (which I really liked) and you, Robin, are wearing Stella Lily today!
Oooooh my do I love this one. You smell ethereally gorgeous.
I have never done a side by side comparison of Stella and Mille et Une Roses, as much as I like them both, but perhaps I will now.
Stella and the Lancome rose are similar. I’m comparing the square bottle of Lancome, not the original tear drop shaped bottle that is long gone. Although I have not smelled the recently reformulated Stella; they changed their packaging in 2014 which I can only assume means a reform! The 2003 Stella and the Absolute in particular were very nice alternatives to Lancome. All bright roses with a dash of amber/vanilla/musk base.
Stella and MeUR are nearly identical rose accords, but where Stella eventually gets oriental with amber and a dash of patch, MeUR goes strait to musk. It’s a rather linear albeit very beautiful scent.
I do think if I could have only one, I’d take the Lancome. But might depend on what day you asked me 🙂
Seconded on both counts.
SOTD is Jubilation 25. I didn’t much care for it at first but now I love it. If it hasn’t already been done maybe we should do a second time is a charm. Something you disliked/hated the first time you wore it but now you love it.
I like this plan. Jub 25 was great from the start for me but there are definitely others that weren’t – also interesting are those you thought you loved but then regretted buying!
That would be a good challenge, the 180-degree turnaround.
There are at least a couple of fragrances that I wore several times before deciding that I loved them.
We did a few that touched on that theme (Slow Burn Friday, for instance) but not exactly that…added to list!
SOTD is Eau du Sud. Tea of this morning was a green tea perfumed with grapefruit flowers.
Yum to both!
I think that you would love that tea it’s official name is: You Zi Hua Cha. It’s much greener than jasmine tea, but equally lovely.
I will look for it, thanks!
LOVE Eau de Sud. I was just thinking about this one yesterday – and pining away for a bottle of original formula Eau de Monsieur. I am wishing for summer already and spring is not yet here! EdS is one of my fav summer colognes.
They are both good, and quintessential Goutals. I’m not particularly wishing for summer, but spring would be very lovely.
I stopped watching Downton after a certain main character died. It was just a train wreck by then for me and I wasn’t even interested in watching it further for the wreckage value.
I’m in Infusions d’iris today. This is probably one of the first blind buys that’s been really successful for me. I love it.
Yeah, I quit on DA after season 3. I think I may have watched one or two episodes beyond that, but I just lost interest at that point.
I think I saw part of one other episode and saw that it was just the same old thing, only getting worse and that was it.
Okay, so not the only one! I was like , ‘Really? The only rich person on the show I gave a damn about? Jeeze!”
Hahaha, I was shocked by that character’s death, but it came after a series of melodramas that seemed a bit too much already. So that death was overkill and once the shock wore off I rolled my eyes and thought: well, now what will the show focus on? That was the biggest part of it!
I have a love not-love relationship with DA. I’d be just as happy to watch it with the volume off b/c all I really want to do is look at the beautiful clothes, houses, furniture, etc etc. IMHO there were only two good episodes in this last season – these last two. But I do think on the whole it was a very satisfying tv show. *And yes, Robin, you are the last to know about the footman and Lady E!!
Hahaha I can totally see just watching the show for the eye candy value. The sets and costumes were amazing. Maybe just play the Pride & Prejudice soundtrack on loop while watching. 😉
That reminds me of when I was a kid! The family and I would watch Family Fued on mute and try to guess the question based on the answers that were revealed. I come from a long line of strange family activities ????
That is very funny! We are all strange in our own special ways, lol!!
That sounds hilarious. I bet it was awesome fun.
And we used to guess the prices on Antiques Roadshow. My then 8 hear old nephew always won because he would just come up with the most random number while the adults over-complicated things.
I didn’t like it first sniff and ordered it immediately after a second! You smell lovely :)!
Thanks! I do like a good iris scent and did a lot of reading about it first. I have a feeling I might be wearing this a LOT this spring.
I’m also one of those who stopped watching DA when ‘a certain main character died’ (I’m guessing it’s the same one) but I did watch the finale last night and really enjoyed it. There were only a couple of characters and plot twists I was unfamiliar with but that didn’t ruin my enjoyment, I’ll just ask a friend’s input. So even if you weren’t a fan after awhile, I’d still recommend the finale; it brings a mostly positive closure and I enjoyed its fond farewell to some of the remaining characters that I did like very much.
I may be alone on this site, but I can’t stand DA and have never made it through an entire episode — although I can’t say I’ve tried too hard!
You’re not alone!
A friend of mine who watched DA avidly sent a poll out with a multiple choice question on what type of DA watcher we are. Subversive me (thank you Bear) created a new answer “What is Downton Abbey?”
Best answer ever!
I haven’t watch the last episode yet of DA. Hope I don’t need tissues.
I got an early birthday present over the weekend. I broke my bottle of feuilles d’oranger by l’occitane. So sad this one is discontinued and I have been looking for a replacement orange blossom. Well, I was discussing it with my friend and she said look out in the mail for a early present..and she found a small travel bottle on the ‘bay for me. so SOTD is feuilles d’oranger. Smells like spring to me!
That was so sweet of you’re friend, enjoy you’re orange blossom scented day, u smell lovely and spring like!
Thank you! L’Occitane did some really nice colognes like this one and Eau de Vanilliers..but I have not swooned over anything they have done recently.
Friends are so generous and full of surprises!
Aww, that was awfully nice of your friend. What a great birthday gift!
I will treasure every drop and our friendship for sure
What an awesome gift. That was a really good one that I should have bought a larger bottle of when it was available. I still kick myself for either not picking up some of the older l’Occitane scents or not hoarding enough. Have I mentioned how much I adored their Orange Blossom incense and room spray?
Me as well..I remember there cone incense..so nice and there clay oil holder that went around the light bulb and you could fill it with oil and smell up a room.
I have the bath soap of FdO but I am waiting to open it and use it in the spring..its my last one
Yep, they had cone and stick incense as well as a candle and room spray. I’ve used all my cone incense but still have one candle, half a room spray, and a couple boxes of incense sticks that I really should use.
My old favorites are the tiny bottles of the extrait in each of the original Vanille, Ambre, and Orange Blossom fragrances. I still have them, only a few drops are necessary for scenting. These, and their original Vetiver, are my favorite LOX scents.
I’m also a big fan of the Feuilles d’Oranger, and I have the travel bottle as well. But I find it’s the scent of the whole orange – the fruit, peel, leaves, stems, and twigs with a bit of spice – rather than a floral ‘orange blossom’ fragrance. Even better than the edc is the corresponding spray body milk, Lait d’Orange, if you can find it. It’s light but deliciously long-lasting, I love it in the summer.
Azemour for me today, perfect on a cold but bright morning.
A relaxing child free morning today, I made a banana and apple loaf cake, and enjoyed it with Bluebird tea’s earl grey Creme, I imagine Shalimar would taste like this, it’s a really nice one!
Banana and apple loaf sounds really nice, and Azemour seems prefect for when we are all longing for real spring!
Yes it’s really nice- and easy too, I had a big bag of bananas from the fruit and veg market which needed using up!
Azemour is such a wonderful Monday morning pick me up, really invigorating.
On a different topic (sorry), I don’t think u got my email, but I left a reply on the meet up thread- 21st best for me too.
Ooh super thank you- will send an email to all three of you!
What a lovely morning!
It was lovely, thanks!
You smell wonderful.
sounds so relaxing-can I join you 😉 !
Heehee, Would love to share with u..such a pity we’re not on the same continent!
A footman dating a Lady? Scandalous! Although Branson & Lady Sybil pulled it off 😉
Last night’s finale was a little too perfect for me, but it was satisfying in many ways. Much love to go around for all. Barrow’s change from downright evil to a kind & caring man impressed me the most. And I love that he’s now the new butler and Carson can stay on too. I thought I picked up on the special after the finale that Downton is continuing in some form?
SOTD Gourmand Coquin, my ultimate comfort scent.
No spoilers please! Some of us haven’t seen the finale yet.
SOTD JM orris & sandalwood
How do you find the new JM? I am interested but can’t decide what I think of it from a quick try.
Oh, so sorry! Did not even think that some folks didn’t catch last night!! You’ll love it 🙂
I did not see the special but have heard they’re considering a movie?
Oh, interesting! That makes sense. It goes on…
God – I hope not. That always kills it. They need to do an early generational prequel TV series – the tales of Lady Violet. Very much like Anna Karenina, etc.
Ok, I’d be tempted to watch a prequel series around Lady Violet. That actually sounds interesting!
Lady Violet is my absolute favorite!
Oh yes I want to know more about that Russian romance!
lady violet has the BEST lines! Cracks me up
Yes, that’s true, I read it in Radio Times, around the time of last series over here (UK).
Did you ever find out your new coworker’s giant scent ?
Hi Bear! Thanks for asking.
I’ve not yet as I don’t work directly with her, even though she sits right near me, and she’s not the friendliest either.
I did smell it this morning walking into the office, and since heard others complain. I think I need to set a plan to figure this out this week. Stay tuned.
Hi floragal !
Good luck ! ????
Blocki Perfumes In Every Season for me today. It’s a vintage-style floral bouquet with a green tint. I really like this new line, and I think it deserves more attention.
I agree! This Grand Affair is quite nice, and the bottles are BEAUTIFUL, especially the caps.
Thanks to your comments, I have ordered the sample set. Will report back when I’ve had a chance to sniff.
I wish you good luck on the Blocki as you’ve mentioned more fails than successes lately!
In vintage Champagne today, all sorts of peachy jammy goodness. Am trying to persuade myself to wear something other than the FLoris rose I mentioned on Friday, unusually it is one I just find completely beautiful and never boring.
Also have just received some Le Labo samples and Lys 41 smells much sharper than on first testing. Looks like money saved!
Good choice
Thanks- felt like a dramatic way to embrace Monday rather than trying to pretend it wasn’t happening (I do generally enjoy work but sometimes it can get v demanding- perfume always seems a good mood moderator then)!
I am in Champagne today also. I don’t know if my sample went off, or what, but I can hardly smell this at all. I was really pretty for about a minute, then, Poof, gone.
Hey twin. I find it a huge perfume but so hard to know as these things vary so wildly between us all.
champagne/yvresse sounds really lovely, I’m very tempted to blind buy from eBay one of these days, I’m so sure it’s something I’d love.
I’ll make sure to bring some when we meet up so you can try it.
SOTD: Ambre Nuit (Dior) 🙂
You’re smelling gorgeous!
Love that one! You smell divine.
Enveloping Ambre Sultan for a damp, chilly day. Have a good week, everybody!
I wore this one yesterday, also a damp, chilly day, and it was perfect! Such a gorgeous amber — I love that it skews Sierran-conifer-forest-in-high-summer, dry and piney, rather than caramel-vanillic like so many ambers.
That’s interesting, I will definitely have to try it in the summer, I always think of it as a perfect Autumn/winter scent.
That is, it smells to me like what the Sierras smell like on a hot summer day; I haven’t tried it as a summer scent, either. 🙂
Wow it sounds great!
Rozy edp for me today
Love Rozy in every form!
Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete. Sometimes you need that beachy tropical feeling in the middle of a bitter cold spell (and this has been a very cold though weirdly snowless winter).
Hear hear. I think that is behind my latest falling for tropical white florals. A longing for sun and warmth. You smell wonderful.
I’m a fan of that one too!
I’m wearing Apres l’Ondee, in an attempt to convince Spring to arrive. It seems to be working to a certain extent, as it’s at least sunny today. And god, that scent is lovely.
Oh yes, it’s a beauty!
You smell fabulous. If I had to have just one fragrance, this would probably be it…
Yes to this. I wouldn’t want to live in a world with no Apres l’Ondee!
Oh, really? I have no idea what I would pick, but wouldn’t be too sad if someone forced me to wear Apres l’Ondee forever.
It seems like we are having winter in reverse aren’t we? January was warmer than February, etc.
The weather here has been really strange. End of February/beginning of March have been unusually cold. And then yesterday, we had freezing rain alternating with sunshine in five-minute intervals and I’m exaggerating much less than one would think.
Can u believe I still haven’t tried this one, I love L’Heure blue, so I’m sure I would think it heavenly.
Is the lasting power as abysmal as its reputed to be?, I guess with a big bottle u can just keep re spraying tho!
I’ve got a spare unused sample of Apres l’Ondee needing a good home (it was delayed in the post for ages and I blind bought a bottle meanwhile). Drop me an email to the address on the meet up thread and I’ll post it to you.
Thank u!, that’s so kind, will do!
Great, hope it works. It’s literally sorrellay (that bit’s not spoofed). If you have problems let me have an email and I’ll try mailing you (or is yours in the meet up thread too?)
I like Apres L’ Ondee but am one who found the longevity to be lacking on me. I actually find Insolence to be a really amped-up version of sorts.
I’m not the greatest Guerlain fan ever, but I cannot imagine anyone not liking this. I’m sure there are some people who don’t, but for me, this is the most accessible classic of them all. If I had to pick a classic perfume for a teenager, that would be it.
It actually lasts pretty well on me. I can still smell it 12 hours later, although very close to the skin.
I’m unintentionally starting the Friday project early. Wore Eau de Celeri yesterday and decided I wanted something completely different today, so braved the sweetness of Ylang in Gold. It seems to be working ok for me. Very sweet, but smooth and custardy in a similar way to Isis. I’m glad I don’t get any of that gritty Pink Sugar sweetness or the spiky vanilla that so often ruin gourmands for me.
Hope everyone has a great start to the week!
How is Eau de Celeri? I am I intrigued but have yet to try.
I like it when I’m in the mood for a fresh bitter green. It’s a slightly salty and very crisp green/vetiver, like a perfume aperitif. There’s some slight floral sweetness but not much. I don’t think it smells like celery but I can see why some people do. If I had to compare it to something, I would say it has a similar green feel to Diptyque’s Eau de Lierre but is much less woody. They probably don’t have much in common except for evoking bitter/peppery vegetation.
Yesterday it was sharp and chemical, but it was partially due to the interaction with my sunscreen (I’ve had Ô de Lancome and Azemour react similarly) and partially due to my mood. It’s on my FB list mostly because it’s interesting and I think it would layer well with things that skew too sweet.
I see that I have run on at length and managed to be pretty vague. Sorry ’bout that. Some days I love it and some days it’s a chemical scrubber but it keeps me interested enough that I’ll replace my decant.
Sounds interesting and appealing to me.
No, your answer is very helpful! I’m going to have to try this one. I was just sent a small sample of another Monsillage and thought it was very nice. Can’t remember the name now!
Finishing off my sample of Shalimar Parfum Initial L’Eau. I took the “dump the vial all over me” approach.
🙂
By accident, I hope? I hate when that happens.
No, on purpose! I never feel like I get enough on when I use the little dabber on the cap, so sometimes I just pour whatever is left in the vial all over my arms and hands and hope for the best.
That’s what I do as well. You smell great today. I love that one and am so sad it’s not around anymore.
it is really nice and the silly name actually suits it — it’s like an easy basic version of shalimar.
It looks like winter’s just about over here, so I’m wearing Vanilla Flash before it’s too late
I oddly like Rose Flash better in the summer, which might not make any sense. I can see Vanilla might be more winter-y; I’m not a big vanilla person myself.
Baby came over the weekend, so I probably smell like witch hazel! Happy Monday to everyone!!!
How lovely, welcome to to the little one!!!
Congratulations!
Congratulations! Thanks for sharing the great news.
Congratulations!
Yay! Congratulations to you and welcome to baby.

Boy or girl? Do you have a name? Congratulations.
Congratulations!
Congrats and welcome to your new Little One!
Happy baby!
Yay! Congratulations!
Awww! Congrats!
Woo hoo! Congratulations!
SOTD= Aedes du Venustus ( sp? I feel illiterate in several languages here!) Copal Azure, my favorite incense at this point in time, although Tam Dao runs a close second, but I usually wear that to bed. Copal Azur is an energy booster scent for me, gotta get up and do something when I wear this. But I think I need to explore incense further..what are some other good ones? I have and love Avignon as well, but did not love Dzongkha for some reason.
I’m wearing my sample of copal, as well… good for waking up early, and getting one’s act together, hopefully it will accomodate another scent later…
I really love Bois d’ascese although it is too dry and smokey for some. Kevin has a good review. I think I like it better than he does. It runs through some nice changes on me and I love it’s tenacity.
Also love Oeillet Bengale and Iris Nazarene from AdV, both of which are full of incense along with the iris and Oeillet!
Wore Bois d’Ascese yesterday and my husband was going nuts. He loves that one. So do I! I think it smells dry at first, but its sillage is rich and warm.
Good to get spousal love too!
Bois D’ascese sounds amazing.
It really is. Defintely worth seeking out.
I’ve bought two bottles for J, but it’s all gone again…
Ha!
I’ve learned as I work through my samples that I like incense and it liked me. I love Amouage “Interlude Man” (ashes of incense) and Annick Goutal “Myrrh Ardente” (honeyed Myrrh). Enjoyed Armani Privé “Bois d’Encens” (incense and cedar). I have samples of all 5 of the Comme Des Garçons incense series which will make up a testing week for me soon. A quick pre-sniff of Heeley “Cardinal” has me looking forward to that one. L’Artisan Timbuktu is in my program for this week. I have a few “ancient incense” samples for a different type of scent; tried Papillon “Anubis” with great success and have Lubin’s Akkad, Galaad and Idole lined up (all quickly sniffed and I am very much looking forward to them). :^)
You have so much to look forward to! I like incense generally, too, unless it is too churchy. I had all of the CdG set once and think I most loved Kyoto. Happy trails!
Love Anubis!
I love frankincense: Tauer Incense Extreme, AG Encens Flamboyant, Profumum Roma Olibanum, Montale Incense Full, Josef Statkus, CdG incense series, Micallef Shanaan, TF Sahara Noir, you name it and I probably love it. 🙂 I love other types of incense too: Heeley Cardinal, Aedes Copal Azur, PdE Wazamba, Olivier Durbano Heliotrope and Rock Crystal) Armani Encens Satin, Dzongkha. I have a big incense obsession as you can see. 🙂
Just a mild obsession 😉
(P.S. You forgot your Rundholz!)
Wow, great memory! I knew I left something out (and that’s a big one). I also found Messe de Minuit while I was rummaging around this afternoon.
NST has some good lists, 5 incense for winter etc. I love and like a lot of incense scents, but the most worn right now are: Avignon, Passage d’Enfer, Chaos, Bois d’Armenie.
Forgot Parfum Sacre & Oblidanum 🙂
Copal Azure might be perfect for this Friday — my sample got shuffled to the Way Back of my perfume cabinet, and I’d forgotten about it, but I recall really liking it.
SOTD is Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EDT – it’s been a long time since I pulled that one from the shelf. Not sure why, because it’s lovely. Tried Kemi Luna over the weekend (sample sent by Luckyscent at random) and really liked it a lot. Prolly no FB in my future though because of the price point (cha-ching).
I have the edp of AdP Iris, and I particularly enjoy it in early spring. I wish I’d bought a bottle of the original edt before it was gone.
I’m going to put some EDP on the upcoming swap, since I’m anxious to get going on my backup bottle.
Make that EDT!
😉 Good to know. I’m getting my swap stuff organized too….
Testing Amouage Opus VIII at the moment (but not liking it much). Will probably be in Bois des Iles later.
What do you not like about this one? I’ve not tried it either but read a lot of good reviews about it. It seems like a BWF with incense from the notes.
It smells really really aquatic on me. Calone-aquatic. I have no idea what happened–I had expected the BWF+incense as well.
Yikes!
SOTD is Eau de Merveilles. I have an important doctor appointment and don’t think I can handle anything else.
I never made it back here on Friday, but want to thank all of you who wrote such nice responses about my wearing Cinnabar and how it evokes memories of my late grandmother. She’s been gone for almost five years and I still miss her every day. If any of you have considered adding a dear relative’s signature scent to your collection, I highly recommend it. It allows me to keep a very personal connection to her.
I know what you mean. My mother loved Anais Anais, and I bought a mini because sometime I want to remember how she smelled.
I did the same with Anais Anais (and a few other of my mother’s favorites).
My mother used to wear AA, too. When we were going through her stuff after she died, I found a couple bottles of “If You Like Anais Anais”. She became unnecessarily frugal in her later years. But I like to give it a sniff here and there for the memory, too.
So funny, my mother also wore Anais Anais as well. It seems to be a popular “mom” perfume!
You smell great. I almost put this one one this morning.
Thank you. It has become my go-to light but comforting scent. I can’t help but smile when I put it on.
I hope your appointment went well and that you spritzed a favorite scent with abandon upon your return.
I’m sorry to say it didn’t. Luckily, the EdM comforted me instead of being ruined on what turned out to be a terrible day.
I got married in my dear dear late auntie’s Jolie Madame, to have her somehow present. It’s still one of my faves.
That is such a sweet and wonderful story. Your aunt had great taste.
This week’s assignment is going to be kinda tough, because I did the Mari Kondo method on my apartment last year, and I do not think I have any scents that I have forgotten about. Things I have not worn because of season, yes. Forgotten about? We shall see!
SOTD: Chanel Eau Premiere combined with jasmine and honey scented styling hair cream.
OOTD: pink blouse, long pink scarf, blue trousers and short brown boots. White rain coat.
Winter is still making a waning appearance in the mornings, so still chilly and damp in the morning, but sweet and mild in the afternoons!
I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve pruned down my collection and samples so much that I really don’t have much in there that I’ve forgotten about. I’ve definitely not worn some things because they didn’t speak to me (maybe I need to konmari some more?) but there’s nothing in my collection that I’ve actually forgotten.
Right! Even with my samples, I have them held off for later on in the year, to try on as appropriate.
With the whole konmari method it has to things that are or will bring joy. If the object- perfume- is not speaking to you, maybe it is unhappy and wants to be let go.
You know what that means…
SWAPMEET!
So true.
I’m going to interpret the community project slightly loosely, because I’ve not been at this long enough to have any genuinely forgotten perfumes. However one of the first things I had delivered last November was the L’Artisan samples set, which I didn’t want to use until I got some mini sprayers. So, it was left to one side for months, and each day this week I’ll try a different l’artisan scent.
SOTD today is Fou d’Absinthe, which is a very pleasant and complex bitter green that I enjoyed on my weekly commute into London. It hasn’t really persisted into the afternoon as I would have liked. I like it, but don’t think I need it, and certainly not a FB.
Whereabouts do u live Koenigsberg?
L’Artisan is a house I have finally just got around to exploring, such an interesting collection.
Hi Mayfly – I’m based in the Midlands, currently working in London Mon-Fri. I find the l’artisan stuff conceptually interesting but the very few decanted samples I’ve tried have had low lasting power. I’m never very sure whether to be sad a scent doesn’t work out, or glad to avoid the expense of a FB. :^)
SOTD = No. 5 EdC
The musk is strong with this one. 🙂 Perhaps that is why the EdC is my favorite concentration.
Twin . . . 😀 My newly acquired EDC is Very Strong on civet though. I’d applied it in a confined space, left to do my makeup and when I came back my first thought was ‘What on earth happened here? o_O’
The civet is so in-your-face dirrty I worried about wearing it to work. Luckily the cat had left the building by then. I was awash with a strong ambery rose, followed by sandalwood and patchouli. The aldehydes are there but there quite muted.
It’s lovely, but doesn’t smell like ‘No5’ at all, whatever No5’s supposed to smell like. I’ve another EDC and it’s a lot more Chanel-like with its aldehydes + jasmine. The skunk’s there too, but it’s buried underneath with sandalwood and vanilla.
My impression in fact was ‘Kiehl’s Original Musk meets Agent Provocateur’. Lol but Chanel was there first.
Spring has definitely sprung in East Texas, the bluebonnets are out. I’ve been in a spring mood lately, and I am reluctant to wear anything complex or heavy. Back to florals, citrus, and aromatics. Anyway today I am wearing Lilac Path. I had put off wearing this, mainly because I am not a fan of lilac as a perfume. I love lilac the flower, although it is very hard to find in Texas because of the heat. It is very lilac smelling, but good as a spring floral.
I got my box of samples from Dame Perfumery last week, and started with New Musk over the weekend which is a meh on me. Now I’m sampling two of his soliflores. On one arm is Mimosa which I’m not liking much. It smells sort of like linden with some pollen, a smidge of beeswax, and dried hay. That actually sounds pretty nice, but it’s not working on me for some reason. On the other arm is Narcissus, which I think might settle down into something pleasing, but at the moment I’m getting a Vicks Vaporub menthol note that’s disconcerting. There is no violet in anything I bought, but I keep smelling violet and looking for a sample I may have missed. The last time that happened I was thrilled to think that yay! I was actually smelling the violets that were blooming outside. Much to my chagrin, I realized later that I was smelling the exhaust from the clothes dryer. 😉
You must have some lovely laundry detergent! 😉
SOTD is Le Labo The’ Noir 29 (for the third consecutive day)!
It is good isn’t it? Hmm maybe I’ll wear that one tonight if I can find the sample.
Oh this reminds me to pull that one out!
Lady Edith gets on my last nerve. Apologies to all the Lady Edith fans, but really, she needs to get a grip.
In order to face another Monday, I’m geared up in FM Vetiver Extrodinaire. Earthy but airy. Natural but refined. Casual but elegant. Subtle but present. I like it. A lot. ????
Happy Oxymoronic Monday, Fumies.
😉 Vetiver is perfect!!
Lol! You smell extraordinaire. I think Edith suffers from middle-child-syndrome so I kind of feel sorry for her.
I don’t mind Lady Edith, it’s Lady Mary, the Ice Queen, who gets on my nerves. Aplogies to all the Lady Mary fans, but she needs to thaw out/warm up, just a tad.
It has been pouring all night and all day so far. I’m in Wood Sage & Sea Salt. I am stoked for my arrival of Fleur de Chine…it’s being discontinued so I got the flacon. I think it should be on its way today! My first purchase of a purfume in such a large quantity. but it is discontinued…so I will definitely never run out. hah!
Flacon Congratulations!
Go big! 🙂 Now you can spritz with wild abandon.
I don’t own back up bottles of anything. But I find myself stressing about how often to wear FdC now! If you ever decide to decant yours……
😉
oh I’m sure I will! I’ll keep you updated once I receive it if you’re interested! 🙂
Great choice! I’ve got a full bottle (well, no longer full..) of FdC and just received half a bottle in a split as a back-up. And I’m still kind of thinking that I should get another bottle from Harrods.
Also like WS&SS.
Lady Edith and Andy? Huh? I has no idea! How/when did I miss that?
SOTD is Azemour, a split from the wonderful *gah!,” name forgotten. My mind needs a lube, but Azemour is smart and lively.
Just to be clear — not the characters, but the actors, are dating.
Oho! I feel better. Thank you, Robin.
Hi twin, u smell wonderful!
It’s hinting to spring, and up here that means vetiver to me! SOTD is a mild layering combo of Etro Shaal Nur – love it! But then I wanted a bit more vetiver, so I put on just a wee dab of my precious vial of Chanel Sycomore. I am in green smokey vetiver heaven!
You smell FAB! I think I was sent a sample of the Etro by someone a while back and remember liking it a lot, but then it got lost in the “Sample Testing Shuffle.”
I really like Shaal Nur! It is a great spring scent.
Mmm Sycomore! For some reason I get rosewood from it. So lovely.
I love rosewood. I’ll have to do a nose check for that!
L’Artisan Poivre Piquant for me. I’m feeling peppery today!
My fav LAP!
Mine too, followed by Safran Troublant and Timbuktu. Oh, so delicious!
Lots of people seem to favoring vetiver as a note lately. Have we done a Favorite Vetiver Friday Project?
This!
Still exploring vetiver, so I would love that. Plus Robin has mentioned vetiver will be next in the ‘5 xx for spring/summer/autumn/winter lists’!
I’m doing forgotten Monday with Dita Von Teese. I’ve never actually worn this one. It was a surprise gift from a fellow fumie. I was digging around for something unsweetened today and this one fit the bill. So far, I’m liking it.
Is it the one in the red bottle?
I’m pretty sure it’s the eponymous one in the black bottle (I only have a decant). The red is the “Rouge”.
Oh, thanks, I have a very small bottle of the red but it has no tag, so wasn’t sure which iteration DvT it was.
How is that one?
It’s meh, at least to me. Going to swap/freebie meet, along with many others.
Wearing Byredo 1996 possibly for the last time until late fall. It’s springtime in the southern USA. I love you, 1996, but my florals are calling to me!
Wearing Azemour Les Orangers from the Splitmeet! Hurrah for NST. I like it quite a lot – I get a lot of cumin, to the point where there are moments I’m reminded of tacos, but not in a bad way 🙂
What’s not to love about tacos? 😉
SOTD is Atelier Cologne’s Silver Iris from a large decant. This one tends to be a love-it-or-hate-it fragrance, but I’m in the love-it camp. I just haven’t worn it in awhile since the decant bottle tends to get lost amongst my larger bottles.
I’m in the love it camp, too. It’s my favorite iris.
I love this one as well. But as with all Atelier cologne it doesn’t last long on me at all. I usually wear it at night.
This is my problem with it too. It just disappears.
Me too.
Love it and this one lasts a long time on me!
I love it and wore it for my wedding day. It lasts just fine after 15 spritzes. 🙂
We are having a big thunder and lightning rainstorm here. Despite that I really want to wear my new bottle of FM Eau de Magnolia, so I will. May switch to something cozier later in the day if the weather continues like this.
Wear the Magnolia. You can alway scrub if it doesn’t suit.
When you’re done with it, send your weather East! We’re having lovely heavy mist which means we are letting bored damp cats in and out of the house in a fairly constant rotation 😉
Magnolia sounds like a perfect accompaniment to a lightning storm, but then, I used to live in Louisiana!
I forgot to put anything on this morning (I overslept). I can smell a little of my Nubian Heritage Goatsmilk Chai lotion.
I am drinking a combo of Lapsang Souchong and Harney Hot Cinnamon Spice.
My brain has been on a hyacinth loop, sparked by Robin’s choice of photos over the weekend. I bought cut hyacinths a freesias for a bouquet, AND a planter with almost blooming hyacinth bulbs. So I am almost patiently waiting for spring. It is raining umbrellas outside, which is great for the state…making one of my cats miserable, but the other is a catfish and loves wading through muddy puddles…
Looked up frags with Hyacinth and was surprised to see Cristalle edt and No. 19 both listed. So Cristalle it is. With the power of suggestion, I now indeed smell hyacinth.
Anyone else enjoying the global speculation about the next UN Secretary General? My money is on Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, although Wikipedia does not list her as an official candidate. Tra la la– it is a small world after all!
I love hyacinths as well… oddly enough, I never notice them in either No. 19 or Cristalle. Lately, I’ve been getting my hyacinth fix from either Smell Bent Florist’s Fridge (on the cheap end) or my sample of Buterbaugh Apollo Hyacinth (on the way way spendy end!).
I bought some cut hyacinths at the grocery a few weeks ago, but I’m thinking it’s about time for more – either cut ones or potted ones from Home Depot.
Buterbaugh Apollo Hyacinth is on my “to sample” list!
Funnily enough, I now wonder why I didn’t realize that Cristalle IS a hyacinth fragrance. Crazy how much the brain impacts the nose–tell me there is hyacinth, and now all I smell is hyacinth.
Totally random aside (I am full of these today!)–I watched the one hour quicky-made documentary on Scott Kelly’s year in space. His cohort, Sergey Volkov, talks about suddenly smelling scents from home–I remember he mentioned dill among other scents–as unbidden olfactory hallucinations. Made me think about what some of mine might be.
I smelled my Mom’s homemade anise Easter bread, toasted and slathered with sweet butter while driving last week.
Realistic and disconcerting.
Love anise Easter bread! With butter. 🙂
Wow, these sound amazing- never heard of them, what country do they originate from? in England we have Hot cross buns and Simnal cake.
I vote for potted! Then you can cut them every year. 😉
We planted bulbs in the front yard and they smell amazing, especially when it gets warmer. Just remember to wear gloves when handling the bulbs, otherwise they can irritate your skin.
Me & my little girl re planted our sorely neglected front window boxes a couple of weeks ago, , with hyacinths and mini daffodil’s,
Often, when I come home before I open the door I take a deep inhalation of them, passers by probably think I’m slightly odd, but I don’t care, they really smell so amazing!
Hello mayfly!
It is Italian. Here is a recipe similar to my Mom’s.
http://www.browneyedbaker.com/italian-easter-bread-recipe/
Be forewarned, if you make it, it disappears FAST ! LOL 😉
I like the sound of your hyacinth quest. I love delving into things like that, it’s somehow very satisfying.
I had been backing Helen Clark as she was such an intelligent, socially conscious and dignified Prime Minister. Will need to review the situation.
Glad it’s raining.
You live where there are intelligent, socially conscious and dignified politicians? I’m jealous! The crop of presidential candidates the US has this year are mostly the exact opposite of that…oh sorry, no political commentary!
Not any more….we are now scraping the bottom of the barrel PM wise.
I’ll have to re-smell those Chanels. I wasn’t impressed by them the first time around (in November), but now that it is spring I may feel differently. Thanks for the heads up!
SOTD was Mimosa & Cardamom again. It’s just right for an early cold March but with clear hints of spring on the way. Now to respritz or go with a bit of Vetiver Tonka instead.
Lovely choices both.
Happy International Women’s Day! It’s a dark and stormy pre-dawn morning and I’m going to enjoy Jessica Hannah’s Skive in honour of female perfumers. I saw the Peggy Guggenheim documentary at the weekend … Admire her singular vision and determination in creating ( and saving ) her art collection. The thing I liked about her collection (when I visited Venice in the 80s) was that it was so personal, individual, and truly reflected her taste in art. Looking at private collections these days you get the feeling it’s more about ticking the right boxes and investment.
Huh! I was just reading an old review of a biography about her called “The Shock of the Modern” and just ordered it from Amazon. What a tumultuous life she had.
Her autobiography Out of this Century is interesting.
I wonder what perfume she wore?
My Sin might suit her.
I’d like to think she wore one of the bold Carons, like Tabac Blond or En Avion.
I was just looking up the original Dali perfume (1983, after Peggy Guggenheim’s death) and was interested to see that Gala was very keen on perfume, and had decided on the scent prior to her death. I’m quite surprised that more visual artists aren’t involved in perfume making (I guess I’m using the term ‘artist’ in a pretty narrow sense…excluding people like Paloma Picasso). I can only think of Niki de Sainte Phalle but I’m sure there are others.
There is Andrea Maack and Bruno Fazzolari as well, off the top of my head.
That’s right! Thank you . I hope to try the Andrea Maack one day – I like the sound of them so much.
I liked Coal quite a bit, and Craft as well.
I have seen private collections in residences on a smaller scale than Peggy Guggenheim’s and they were a mixed bag of tick the box (in one case), to true passion for a particular genre, to supporting up and coming artists (with some $$$$$$$$ pieces thrown in).
I’m in my beloved and comforting Douce Amer today, after a completely bonkers night that involved a fire scare right at bedtime and my baby boy watching wide eyed as eight of the largest firefighters I’ve ever seen tromping into our little house (he was clearly thinking, “Yay! A party instead of bedtime!” Turned out to be an electrical short caused by a leaking pipe, so now the electrician and plumber are on the way today along with our unstable landlady. Fun times. Douce Amer, take me away!
Oh my! Sounds like quite a night! Nope everything is settled sooner rather than later.
Ah, that would be “Hope”…
Wow, young mothers are so adaptable, I salute you. That’ll be a great family story a few years from now.
Wow, sounds like you didn’t get much rest, good luck with everything!
Oh goodness, what a night!, hope u get an uneventful nights sleep tonight.
Glad you’re all okay. We had a minor grease fire a couple of weeks ago and, yes, that sure is scarey!
Yeesh, that sounds exciting! Luckily nobody was hurt, and your son didn’t mind burly firefighters traipsing through your house at night.
Glad you’re all ok!
This is random from a DVR’d episode of Dr. Oz. I have never thought about this since I barely cook anyway — If you don’t have a fire extinguisher or couldn’t get to one fast enough, do not use water to put out a grease fire, instead, dump the contents of a box of baking soda into the pan.
Wow, that sounds dramatic. Glad to hear it ended without disaster!
SOTD is Tauer Orange Star. The opening is over the top but I’m enjoying it now that it has settled down!
So good! I love the fizzy opening. I spritzed on a bit of his Lys du Desert and get that same euphoric opening. It’s a Tauer signature I really enjoy.
Happy Monday, Everyone! SOTD for me is Dark Amber & Ginger Lily by Jo Malone. This is last week of school before we are off for a week for Spring Break. Hope this week goes by smoothly. We shall see. 🙂
I am on the edge of my desk chair waiting for spring break! Miami, but north beach with all of the other old people!
I hope you have something nice planned!
For me, just some R&R. Can’t get any nicer than that. Sleeping late, binge-watching on Netflix, and catching up on books, I can’t wait. Hope you enjoy yours as well.
My mouth is already watering in anticipation of a chocolate service this afternoon.
Wearing the delightful Eau de Mandarine Ambree. Does anything go better with chocolate than orange?
A chocolate service? Like afternoon tea?
Yes, like a totally decadent version of high tea…with hot chocolate, fine chocolates and little pastries.
Oh my.
I will wear Orange Sanguine! What time should I be there? 😉
Uh-oh too late! I’ll give advance notice next time! Now too the couch to sleep off the gluttony 🙂
Nope, I don’t think so. And you smell great!
I think it’s a delicious combo! I was that weird kid who liked chocolate covered orange peels. Although coffee and chocolate…
I’m still that weird kid. 🙂 Dark chocolate + pretty much anything is wonderful. Berries, ginger, and cinnamon also pair well with chocolate.
Penhaligon’s Lily&Spice hand cream is telling me there is no need whatsoever to resort to perfume as well.
Mmm that sounds nice!
Now that winter’s returned here, after spring all February, I’m pulling out my somewhat neglected Best Winter Scents. SOTD is Organza Indecence.
SF Bay Area PSA: several of us will be meeting for a sniff-fest at Valley Fair (San Jose), in front of the Bottega Veneta shop, at 2pm on Saturday 3/12. Join us!
I’m testing another of my Profumo.it scents, Oasis. It’s a lovely mixed white floral with a butter note stuck in it. Odd.
I hope to meet a lot of Portland perfumistas tomorrow at the opening of Fumerie on SE Division. It should be fun!
I have encountered butter notes where I did not expect them. Invariably they turn my stomach, and I have to give up otherwise lovely perfumes. Most notably Memo Latin Quartier. Its odd.
Yes, that one had the same effect on me. SL Jeux de Peau as well. Beurk.
Now I won’t have to try that one!
Chant d’Aromes for me this morning, and some reading to look forward to this evening as I catch up on everyone’s comments.
I love that scent! You smell fabulous!
We are having a spring teaser here in the Land of Cleve am I am embracing it with pastel colors and Jour D’Hermes. Winter will undoubtedly return before we can truly call it spring around here, but for now it’s lovely!
Mmm, Jour is lovely especially for spring. You smell wonderful!
Wearing the wonderful, work appropriate (not that I care, but this one really is), versatile and delicious Versace The Dreamer. Groomed tobacco, in two words, LT style. And I love, love, LOVE the tarot references in this line, though I have only tried this one, since they are not available in my country. Sending all sorts of good vibes to the generous fairy who sent me this.
I’ve never tried that one, but I remember reading this review and wanting to try it:
http://frompyrgos.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-dreamer-versace.html
Thank you, nozknoz, I had not read it yet!
Wearing the last of a sample of FM Bois d’Orage. Like it a lot.
We have a week of 70’s predicted. Yay!
It’s an unusually warm, sunny, springlike day in the DC area – the perfect time for Eau Sauvage. Perhaps I’ll segue to FM Le Parfum de Therese in the evening.
I keep this hidden behind Diorissimo EdC on a shelf because I don’t love the brown burlwood on the box, and I do tend to forget about it, and I really only like wearing it on a day like today.
I put on some Sage Onyx today. Spotted the bottle in my collection this morning and needed to wear it
Beautiful spring like day! Wearing Tendre Poison. I smell divine! if I do say so myself.
Agreed!
I could do a week of neglected perfumes, so that is what I’m doing. It’ll be good to give some attention to things that I haven’t worn in a long time for whatever reason (as long as the reason isn’t because I didn’t like it).
Oh yeah.. forgot to mention what I’m actually wearing today. SOTD is ELdO Vraie Blonde.
The only ELdO I ever really loved.
I’m all things sunny and yellow and powdery soft today in YR’s long d/c (and forgotten by me) soliliflore, Pur Desir de Mimosa edt, layered over Woods and Windsor’s Mimosa body lotion and topped off with a bit of Dame’s Mimosa soliliflore on my wrists – just perfect for a Keep-It-Simple Monday on the season’s cusp, with 60 degree temps forecast all week.
It’s been a GLORIOUS perfume day…..I’m late to the blog today, but for the best reason!! 🙂
So anyhoo…..I will preface by saying that my birthday is this coming Saturday, and I firmly believe in buying oneself a reasonable gift….
Had to take the teenager into Atlanta for a doctor’s apt (she is fine), so afterward we decided to go to one of the nicer malls in Atlanta for a little perfume shopping. We don’t get into Atlanta much….
So anyhooooooooo…….We sniffed and sprayed and sampled….and I’m the proud owner of my first Jo Malone! In love with Jo Malone Blue Agava & Cacao. This is seriously good stuff. Sweet fancy Moses! Love love love it.
But wait….there’s more. We don’t have a Body Shop anywhere near us, so I had to take advantage. They were having a B2G1F offer….Some White Musk EdT, Red Musk EdP, and White Musk Smoky Rose mist found their way into my basket.
Almost done….The teenager wanted to go into Victoria’s Secret….Where a rollerball of Scandalous was bought. We didn’t want to hurt my younger daughter’s feelings (she didn’t come), so we bought her a bottle of Pink Warm and Cozy mist. And oh yeah….the hubby got a bottle of l’Occitane shower gel…..
Done. Very very very very done. Hubby is not thrilled, but is giving me a birthday pass (as long as he can claim the Jo Malone is “from him”.) I’m totally cool with that!
The only place I can post this, and know that people will understand, is HERE! Thankful for a place to come and talk about this love of scent!
Your day sounds so fun! I have not smelled any Jo Malone, but I am happy you found one you love. Happy early Birthday!
Nice! Unfortunately I haven’t been able to talk myself into Jo Malone prices, but I’ll get there someday. 😉 Their candles are so tempting! Perhaps I’ll be more inclined to take the plunge for my birthday… does Jo Malone ever have sales?
Your day sounds wonderful! Family sniffing outing! Hope the rest of your birthday week is just as fun 🙂
Happy Early Birthday and congrats on a GLORIOUS perfume day. I got a chuckle out of the passive ‘a rollerball . . was bought’. It just sorta happened, right, totally out of your control? Enjoy all your goodies and, yes, we sure do all understand!
Blue Agave & Cacao is wonderful and the only Jo Malone I love. Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, a few days early!
I sprayed liberally this morning from a decant of Dior Gris Montaigne, but it didn’t really make it very well through a day full of meetings. Nice, but not enough presence for me. Or maybe just insufficient to drown out the smell of sushi, soy sauce, and ginger wafting from a person next to me eating lunch during a very much post-lunch meeting? I’m going to put on some Anubis now. That will show them.
🙂 I like your thinking!
I just re-smelled Gris Montaigne the other day and it’s very nice – if someone gave me a bottle, I would wear it. But it’s just not distinct or compelling enough to actually get near the top of my to-buy list.
This is where it stands for me too.
Well Salome just came in the mail and she’s a sexy bitchy minx! I just dabbed a tiny amount on my hand. Wow! This is a really Old School perfume. The woman wearing this is also wearing a fur coat or maybe a fur stole with the critter head still attached and one of those tall oddly shaped hats from the 1930’s. She’s wearing leather gloves and hose with the seams down the back. On application and up to about an hour in, this perfume smells like vintage L’heure bleue, Cuir Russie and carnations that have been delicately misted with day old pee (but in a good way!) and it’s all perfectly blended with traces of a cigarette put out in a glass of scotch. On the dry down, its all kitten fur and sweetness.
This sounds amazing!
Ok so now I am thinking I have to try it and leave it on for long enough for the kittens to come out and play. The top is too cumin-sweat-bally for me and even though I can tell it’s a *good* cumin-sweat-ball I end up washing it off.
Haha, good cumin sweat-ball…is there any other kind? 😉
I sprayed this on and let my husband smell it. He gave me a weird look and said it smelled like unwashed lady bits. Ha!
Oh yucky. That sounds skanky to the max. I gave away my sample.
I wasn’t as big a fan, but I loooove your description so much I read it out loud to my husband who now knows we’re all nuts (he just THOUGHT that prior). Thanks for the glee!
Haha you ladies are so funny. The dry down of Salome is so gorgeous, a tiny bit got on my sleeve and it is magical. I think this one is beautiful but in micro amounts
Oh and I forgot to say, I love the Mondrian painting Robin!
So glad! I confess I was utterly unfamiliar with Mondrian’s non-abstract work until this morning.
Some of the treescapes are amazing, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this one or one like it. Yah for the internets!
Better late than never!
SOTD = Hermes L’Ambre des Merveilles
I did not have to go too deep into the collection to find something I haven’t worn in a while despite the right time of the year! This is a beaut!
Don’t you hate it when you have to point out to the source of a report that their business unit had relied on a report that had sloppy (simple math) calculation errors? Let’s just say that thank goodness I found it or we would have looked like fools to a third party. I had to stay later unexpectedly to re-do a summary. Rant over.
My work has been heating up too. Very little time to check in during the day. I already work through my lunch so not enough hours in a day.
BTW, good work on catching that error today. Maybe you should wear your mask and cape to work tomorrow? I hope your coworker thanked you.
Nope. I instant messaged her to call me and she said yes she will after she finishes talking to her boss. The next moment she was gone for the day. Sigh…
That’s too bad. She should have thanked you for saving her from embarrassment.
The worst. I sat through I meeting today in which we were meant to vote on measures, any adjustment to which should have been made weeks beforehand. People hadn’t read the measures, however, until we arrived in the meeting today. It took thirty minutes to get it tabled until people had read it and responded properly. So there is my rant to go alongside yours.
A rant, a nice hot bath followed by fluffy PJs and a lovely perfume. Ah, that’s better. I hope tomorrow is a better day for all of us. ????
Hajusuuri to the rescue – despite being annoyed you can at least feel good you prevented some uncomfortable embarrassment!
Very late today. I wore Rose Boheme today and really enjoyed it. I’m trying to wear all my winter favorites before the warmer weather comes.
Lady Edith is dating the footman dude? Holy cow! Now Ill have to see if I can tell in the last few episodes.
