La Via del Profumo Il Giglio di Firenze & Sensemilla ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 1 March 2016 10 Comments

La Via del Profumo Il Giglio di Firenze

La Via del Profumo has launched two new fragrances, Il Giglio di Firenze, in the brand's Italian series, and Sensemilla.

Il Giglio di Firenze (shown) ~ "The symbol of the city of Florence is the Lilly: "il Giglio", which grows spontaneously in the valley of the Arno river and in the hills around the city. It is in reality Iris. From its dried roots is extracted the most expensive of all perfumery materials, the concrete and the absolute of “Orris”....A blend of “Orris” absolute and concrete is the heart of “ll Giglio di Firenze”. The Ambergris, Frangipani and Mimosa join in, but never challenge the soul of Iris, which remains the main theme for the perfume of Florence. The noblest perfume for the noblest city of Italy..." Available in 3, 15.4, 34 and 50 ml.

Sensemilla ~ "I composed "Sensemilla" at the request of a private customer, to be his "scent of the soul". He chose every ingredient and the name of the perfume. I only had to write the formula and execute it. Some of the most precious perfumery materials enter into the composition of Sensemilla, particularly Neroli, Tuberose and Narcissus. Cannabis essential oil is at the core of the fragrance. The central ingredient around which others whirl. Sensemilla is in fact the name for a super potent variety of marijuana, and I wrote the perfume keeping in mind the name it was to have. Therefore Sensemilla is a full fledged Hemp perfume and you should avoid wearing it when crossing borders. Police dogs may follow your trail." Available in 15.5, 33 and 50 ml.

Luca Turin reviewed the Sensemilla a bit ago on Style Arabia, he said it was a fantastic lavender (even though it has no lavender).

I got Sensemilla based on his review and, while it does smell herbal, I definitely did not get lavender from it. Disappointing, since I love lavender.

So, do tell us what it smells like! I’m curious

Honestly? After the fresh / bitter green opening I think it smells like weed (high-quality, fresh, not at all skunky weed). If Robin (or anyone else with a better-trained nose) would like to sniff some and report back, I could send some samples out.

          So sorry!

Tempting! I’ve been meaning to do an order while the exchange rate is favorable. I love that La Via del Profumo offers small sizes, too.

Surrender to Chance also has samples of a great many of them, including a wide range of individual notes.

Might want to keep Sensemilla home, if you are heading toward an airport! 🙂
