Happy Monday, everyone! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm barely awake in Prada Candy. Tea at the moment: Kusmi Traktir.
Reminder: 1/29 will be Shalimar Friday! Wear Guerlain Shalimar, or a Shalimar flanker, or a perfume that is related to Shalimar in some way (it does not have to be by Guerlain!)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
today it’s Parfums MDCI Peche Cardinal
good choice–very pretty.
Beautiful
I’m struggling to stay awake. Oajan today.
Ah, we’re a club. I’m still not awake.
I think I need to join this club too.
Still in this club. Need more tea/caffeine!
SOTD is Amouage Sunshine Man. Monday morning currently means an 04:50 alarm, taxi, train, tube (subway) and light rail journey schlepping a backpack and suitcase, so I need something reasonably robust! :^) Also the name and the citrus elements are cheerful, which is helpful on a January Monday.
Oh my goodness! I hope the citrus perks you right up and that you are nice and warm.
Thanks missylulu! It was 13℃ in London today so if anything I was too warm even in just a peacoat. :^)
Wow! That’s a lot of travelling! Citrus is always a perk up! Have a great day!
Thanks Ede97005, hope you’re having a great day too! The irony is that it’s probably less than 125 miles, but completely impractical to drive in my own car because of the crazy congestion in London. ;^)
I’m picturing the chase scenes in the movie “The Pelican Brief”! LOL That’s a lot of transportation mode to conquer in a morning! 🙂
You smell amazing though!
Thanks JadainGA. It does feel like a weird experiment at times. Over the weeks I have become more and more ruthless in editing my suitcase so I can carry it up and down stairs more easily. :^D
Wow! That’s impressive and admirable. I’d need a nap after that ordeal.
I tend to sleep well on Monday night! The funny thing is that the journey home on Friday feels less stressful. Probably because the worst part is over first, plus I’m looking forward togetting home for the weekend. :^)
Yvresse. Happiness in a bottle.
It is….
Mmm.. Great way to start Monday 🙂
You smell pretty fab.
Feeling blah this morning, but cozy in Prada Candy!
Hey twin!
🙂 We are cozy in Candy, twin!
I just finished off my Tonka Imperiale decant. Nothing gold can stay, sigh
Always liked the poem (which, granted, is on about a 6th grade reading level). But *really* loved The Outsiders.
I’m a dope. What is the connection between Robert Frost and the Outsiders (spacing on the author’s name)?
“Stay gold, Ponyboy!”
(That’s the best I’ve got; I actually don’t recall how it fits into the plot, just that that allusion is in the book…somehow.)
Poem quoted in the book.
And in the movie. Which, for full disclosure, came out when I was at the age where I could spend my babysitting money to go see it in the theater. 😉
Ponyboy……Yes! It comes back…. Thanks guys. All is clear now!
But at least you smell phenomenal!
Mitsouko for me today.
Chypre twins!
You both smell great!
My noir wearing of Mitsouko made me feel like I finally “get” the scent. It’s a wonderful thing.
Took me a few wears to get it too. But now that I do, I LOVE it! You smell great.
Congrats! That’s one I’m still working on that one. Enjoy!
It’s gratifying to wear something that never worked before and suddenly have it click.
That’s such a neat way to have it finally click! I totally see the noir now that you mention it.
I’m wearing Desert Rose today, which is currently one of my favorite roses. I hope all of you on the East coast are safe and sound and above all, warm!
I am warm, but boy am I sore from shoveling snow!
Woke up super early to beat the university book line. Has to wake up with vintage Mitsouko partum. Like a bed of leave i wouldn’t mind taking a nap on.
Monday again….so soon? LOL
SOTD: Paco Rabanne XS Pour Elle. Alluring! Sultry! Inspired me to apply mascara and lipstick today! WOW! 🙂 That never happens….
My wishlist has become unrealistically long, but this is going on it anyway…. 🙂
I am wearing Montale Full Incense, which I like very much. I am drinking some laspsang souchong mixed with some Yunnan black tea to lighten the smoke a tad.
Wow! Then you smell great!
Inspired by Victoria’s recent BdJ post on pinks, I decided to try wearing Hermes Rose Ikebana in the winter. So far, so good, although I’ve yet to venture into the cold outside my home.
I sampled Rose Ikebana for the first time a couple weeks ago and, at first sniff, thought it was nice but not that interesting. Then later in the day I continued to marvel at how good I smelled and when I finally did laundry I found the shirt in the hamper which I had worn and wouldn’t you know…it still smelled wonderful days later? 😉 I saw it in Victoria’s list too and am going to wear it again this week.
I pulled it out to try in cold weather, too.
I always spray it in my hair and on my clothes so the scent stays around much longer.
We’ve been bottle-feeding a lamb, one of a set of twins whose mama seems to have forgotten she had two babies, and only fed one… it was so cold on Friday that without nourishment he almost froze, but when my 17 yo son went to check on his sheep he found this little one lethargic. Brought him in, dried him off, plopped him on a towel-covered heating pad and fed him milk with a syringe until he warmed up enough to figure out what the baby bottle was for. Now Snowflake is getting four bottles a day and doing well! Been a busy weekend, though, and I’m really glad we didn’t lose power in the storm.
SOTD is Organza Indecence, because it is COLD, y’all.
Aw, I’m glad to hear that Snowflake is doing well now.
Awww, sweet story!
Givenchy OI is perfect for this blizzard!
Awww! I’m so glad the little guy is doing well!
Snowflake! Great name, and great story.
Lucky Snowflake, rescued in the nick of time! It must feel good to be a savior.
Great for Snowflake that he has owners who take such good care of him. Stay warm!
Aw, poor lil guy. Glad he’s doing well. When he’s big and strong and ramly Im sure he’ll love being Mr Snowflake 😉
Yay for Snowflake! May she live a long, happy, lamb-y life.
And by she I mean he. Whoops. Beg your pardon, Snowflake. 🙂
Orphan lambs (bums, we called them on the ranch where I grew up, bum lambs) are such sweet charming little things! Everyone should have some. 🙂
Aw, so glad Snowflake perked up! I would imagine that being responsible for animals when the weather is hazardous could be quite stressful, so thank goodness you all make it through fine. I too was a little concerned about the power holding up here in NoVa, and the possibility of the gigantic evergreens looming near the house succumbing to the weight of all that ice and snow.
Lambs are so cute, glad they’re ok!
Glad the little lamby i sug, warm and thriving now, well done mals!
whoops, that should have been ‘is snug’
What a lovely tale and so glad little Snowflake is happy now.
Snowflake is living the life of Riley now!!! 🙂 I’ve been watching The Incredible Dr. Pol (TV show on Nat Geo), and it’s AMAZING that more cattle and other livestock don’t perish young…..Nature is truly miraculous in that way!
I love a happy ending. And you smell great!
Aaawww – what a cute story! That entire scene sounded heart warming, hope the rest of your household stays well!
Aww…melts my heart thinking about little Snowflake…thanks for sharing.
I have a small bottle of Organza Indecence and haven’t worn it in a long time…need to revisit perfumes in my own backyard. 😉
Awww I love Snowflake! I’d love to see pics! Reading this was like watching a Disney movie – or an episode of All Creatures Great and Small 😀
I would just love to bottle feed a lamb. That must be just adorable.
I so wish I could share a pic of the lamb (or, maybe even sweeter, Gaze feeding him)! He’s precious.
I was so preoccupied with our dog that I completely missed Snowflake! Would love to see a picture… We used to have sheep for a time when I was little and when the little lambs were born, I was completely overwhelmed. Still would be, I think. Unfortunately, our land was too low and wet for sheep, so we had to give them up.
Mals may be too modest to mention it, but you can see the pictures on her scent/life blog:
http://themuseinwoodenshoes.com/scent-diary-jan-18-24-2016/
Oh, that little lamb is soooo sweet! What a nice story.
Thank you for this! As Rachel Zoe would say: “I die”.
I found my tiny Memoir decant while doing some re-orginization last evening. It had fallen behind some boxes on my perfume shelf and was mostly evaporated, so I did what any good perfumista would do and smeared a glob of concentrated perfume-sludge on my arm before adding some Everclear to the bottle to see if I could reanimate the remains.
This morning, rather unsurprisingly, I still smell strongly of Memoir (or “that one that smells like a church,” as Mr. minion calls it). The sheets, my robe, the sofa, my desk, and the cats are rather nicely scented too. Doolittle was indifferent to it and just wanted cuddles, but Newburg tried to sneak up and lick my arm several times. I always wonder if he’s trying to clean me because I stink or taste me because I smell great? He doesn’t react very often to my scent so I suspect the latter.
Perfume sludge!
I think you smell great.
One of my cats responds to SSS Rose Musc by crawling up in my lap, and nuzzling and slobbering all over my hands and wrists, purring away like mad. He will keep this up until I dislodge him. Must be lady civet musc that is driving him kitty-wild. 🙂 I’ll have to get a sample of Memoir and see if he responds the same way to this one. 🙂
And I will have to test out Rose Musc on The Bug. I have a travel spray somewhere that doesn’t get nearly the love it should so this will be a good excuse. For science! 😉
Scientific discovery is it’s own reward! Do keep us informed of your findings! Lol!
My cat always slobbers, perfume or no… :-/
I love it when they get like that. Too cute.
Aw, too cute. My cats have never responded in any particular way to any of my fragrances. Perhaps I need more civet in my collection. 🙂
My kitties do that with oakmoss and SSS Tabac Aurea. Too cute! Maybe I’ll get them some Rose Musc. I haven’t sampled her roses yet.
Ha! That’s hilarious.
One of my cats loves anything scented on skin. Lotion, perfume, essential oils, deodorant. I can foist him off during the day, but he frequently wakes me up at night when he is licking off whatever he can get to. I even found him licking my sheets one night! Eew!
If only all males could be so attentive, though. 😉
LOL! That’s right, they need to stay focused on what is most important!
You need to find the right males.
Romantina form Juliette has Gun. Love the iris in it. The ones in this line to all seem to have an undercurrent that links them. What do you think it is?
I haven’t smelled all of them, but I believe I’ve heard they use Ambroxan the way Ormonde Jayne uses Iso E Super.
I have Miss Charming, and have smelled most of the line. I second Elisa, and think that it is Ambroxan that links these guys. They have one, “Not a Perfume” that is pretty much entirely Ambroxan, but all of their fragrances have that undercurrent, at least to my nose!
I bought the sample set w/ 8 of their perfumes and I agree there is a definite common theme/undercurrent. I sampled and enjoyed them all but didn’t feel like I wanted to run out and buy any. I need to try them all again.
I’m wearing Mimosa & Cardamom, but there is something more important to announce (yes, more important than my SOTD): we have a dog! Since yesterday evening! We promised our daughter a while ago that she’ll get a dog after she has finished reading her first book. That happened in the end of last year and now we have a little white West Highland Terrier and we are all in love.
How fun! Enjoy your new family member!
Congratulations on the new critter! Westies are great dogs. I love their little faces! What did you name the new addition?
What’s its name?
oh yay, I have a westie too!
Twin :)! Let me know if you have any words of wisdom.
Those are very feisty little dogs! Puppies are wonderful even though a lot of work, I hope (s)he will bring you all lots of joy!
AWESOME!
Now you will smell of puppy and perfume, which to me is a very cozy, homey sort of scent!
Ooh, congratulations to your daughter for her accomplishment!
I’m so happy for you! Your Westie will bring you all many years of joy.
I’ve only tried Mimosa and Cardamom once and I quite liked it, so you smell great as well. Altogether a wonderful day. 🙂
Adorable. Just love that face. Congratulations!
Congrats! Westies are so cute. I’ve never met one who didn’t have an irascible “I’m a big, busy, serious dog, so look out” superior terrier attitude.
Yaaaay puppy!!
Have you all decided on a name?
Congratulations on your new puppy! I’ll bet he’s adorable. And I’ll bet your daughter is simply in love with him/her!
Woohoo! New puppy! I hope you all have many years of love and cherished memories together.
Those dogs have the cleverest little faces!
I love Mimosa & Cardamom. Such a snuggly scent. And congratulations on getting a dog, that is such fun!
Congrats! Those are so cute!
Congrats on your new family member 🙂
Your daughter must be so happy. Congrats!
Sounds adorable! And I must try the mimosa this week.
Oh, congratulations to your daughter! What was the book? Did she enjoy it? Is she reading another! And the puppy sounds entirely adorable!
How lovely!, dogs are such wonderful companions for children, we have a big fluffy white one, and our kids adore him.
Westies are great little dogs! One of my aunties has raised Westies for 5 or 6 generations of dogs…Cute and smart!
Thank you for all the puppy love! I posted the comment and then had to work very intensively for a while, so I’ve just come back to find all this. Your comments have made everything even better.
We don’t have a name for her yet, I’m thinking maybe Lumi – it means ‘snow’ in Estonian. Or King Richard 😉 It’s up to Lill (my daughter) to decide in the end. Her own name means ‘flower’ in Estonian, btw.
The book Lill read was called Life on a Farm and she seemed to enjoy it well enough. She likes to read, although maybe not quite as much as I did as a child, but I was extreme by any standards. She generally prefers drawing and can draw for hours, which I find amazing. And, well, she can read in Estonian and French, something I cannot say for myself.
Congratulations! Your terrier sounds adorable; will you feature her in a blog post? I am completely charmed by the idea of naming a white terrier after snow, and the name “Lumi” is great (short but sweet). Estonian sounds like a beautiful language.
Lill is also a great name, and any child who can sit still doing something for hours is amazing. And she’s bilingual! How wonderful, and hope your family enjoys the new dog.
Do let us know how your dog reacts to your perfumes (mine tries to lick the ones she likes, and she sneezes and avoids me when she doesn’t like them).
Oh Congratulations! I love dogs and grew up with many and hope your daughter has at least as much fun and love your pup as I did from my dogs. I have cats now and they too are super but there is something to having your own dog as a little girl which is quite special.
YAY for terriers! I had a wire fox terrier that I still miss almost every day. The other night my H & I were watching a Thin Man movie and he coughed up that he’d been looking up wire fox terrier breeders… My recollection is that westies are just as naughty but a bit easier going. Congrats to your daughter and the whole fam!
Congrats on the new fur baby! Westies are really cute.
How wonderful! I love little dogs and have two Papillons. Enjoy your new furry friend!
Good luck with your new addition to the family. He must be adorable.
Sitting at my desk and still scentless, as of yet. Decided to throw on some Azemour, courtesy of the lovely Floragal. It’s rather unlike me to want something so “fresh” at this time of year, but the mood struck and I’m going with it.
A friend very generously gave me the Nishane sampler for Christmas, and I tried Ambra Calabria last night before bed. Reminded me very much of L’ambre des Merveilles, which I love, and which is cheaper.
I’ve never tried any Nishane fragrances. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the others.
I loved the oud, and the Suede et Safran smelled interesting on a tissue. Still making my way through. I think there are 17 or 18 scents in that set. It was such a generous gift.
Wow, 18 scents – that will be quite the project!
I have a sample of Afrika Olifant I tried yesterday. It’s lovely but it reminded me of something I already knew- L’air de Rein. It seems that the more new release samples I try the more I find ones that resemble what’s already out there. I am curious to try the rest of the line though, so I look forward to reading your reports 🙂
That one smelled good too from the sample! Will try that one on skin soon. L’air de Rien is one of my desert island top five, so I’m probably going to love it.
I haven’t heard of Nishane, but i’m very excited about my brand new full bottle of Azemour that is coming my way tomorrow!. L’Air de Rien and Ambre des merveilles are 2 of my cold weather favourites too.
Because of the residual snow, I’m working from home again. It’s only been 5 days since winter really took shape here, but I’m already tired of it. Wearing Sotto La Luna Gardenia because I needed something from left field, and this is just about as far away from what I normally wear as anything. I kinda like it, but probably because it doesn’t smell like gardenia.
I like that one. It’s like gardenia rice pudding. I find it very cheerful.
I’m in Wildfox today. A sample I got from Nordstrom that I wasn’t familiar with. It’s interesting. It’s a BWF at heart, but it has touches of incense, and something weirdly green that might be the wormwood. I’m just not sure exactly what wormwood smells like. I’m getting a lot of apricot too.
I spent the weekend cleaning and working on my tabletop RPG character. Exciting, at least to me.
The Wildfox cream was really nice too. A nice SA at Nordies gave me a sample before the holidays.
Ooh, I didn’t see the cream. I like the fragrance, but I feel like I’ve smelled it before. Not specifically, more generically. It also really doesn’t suit the packaging to me.
It is a bit generic but nice. Fragrance aside, the texture of the cream is lovely.
Does anyone know why decants of Chergui are SO expensive on STC? A 5ml spray costs as much as a full 1.7oz bottle from Fragrancenet.com. Is their Chergui the non-export version? I was going to buy a large decant instead of getting a FB, but not at those prices.
I think the markup on $/ml is probably based on the retail price, which for non export is like $120 ish.
Newbiebex, you may want to just buy the tester bottle from Fragrancenet and wait until Splitmeet to do your first split! It is easy to do because the atomizer top comes off. I’ll give you pointers via email…I think I can just dust off an older email to someone who wanted to get started.
Thank you! That is an excellent idea! I might have to do that. I definitely want a good supply of it, but I feel like a FB is excessive. I’m trying to take the “buy fewer FBs” advice I’ve gotten here.
I would also love to split a bottle of Royal Princess Oud by Creed, since I can’t find it on any of the decant sites.
The Chergui gets a lot of love on this board so you are likely to get people interested in splitting and while there’s always a risk of no one taking you up for it, the initial layout is not a bajillion. As for the Creed, you may want to solicit commitments during Splitmeet, get paid, before buying the bottle.
Good advice. Thank you! If I got “stuck” with a FB of Chergui it wouldn’t be the worst thing ever. It would just mean I could wear it with abandon!
The Creed is so expensive. I tried it on at NM and it lasted forever, and smelled so good. I’m picky about oud, but it’s well done in that one.
Hate to enable but when that’s the situation, I say go for the FB. That seems to often be the case with large(r) decants. I don’t know if you are an ebay shopper, but I did look this up and saw a 5 ml manufacturer’s mini for $24.99. I have a SL mini and it’s adorable 🙂 They are dab, not spray, though. Again, not to enable…
Enable away! I checked the bay and wow! Their 5ml selection, whether decant or manufacturer’s mini, is very well priced. Thanks for the tip!
Just my opinion, $24.99 for a 5 mL mini is very expensive considering you can get 50 mLs for < $70'with coupons. Even Walmart has it online at $59.99 (this is the First time I've seen Walmart, Walmart???) selling Serge Lutens.
It’s late and I don’t know if you’ll see this, but a LOT of the guys on Basenotes are Creed fanatics. There are often splits available of new or very popular Creeds from a number of splitters so you can comparison shop.
Does anyone know why Magic the Gathering Cards are so expensive? Newbiebex? Makes Chergui seem like a bargain!
I don’t know! I haven’t gotten into Magic, but I have friends who are. Is the shipping jacking the price up?
I’m always happy to help out fellow geeks, so if it’s something that’s hard to find down where you are, I’m happy to play middle man and ship them to you.
You are such a star! No, my son is into tabletop RPG, and Munchkins, Magic…etc. and always wants something from ‘the old days’ c. 1998 that costs $500. Fortunately he’s switching to Borderlands and Fallout…much cheaper.
Your son has good taste! I love RPG and Munchkins. The offer stands. If there’s something I can help you get, I’m happy to get it through!
Has he done Skyrim? That’s my all time favorite game.
Yep. He says its ‘pretty good’ which is not bad coming from the Dark Lord of Understatement
Wearing my sample of Ostara, It’s very lovely, although it does lose some of that loveliness in the drydown. It’s 14ºC here today, which is ridiculous for January.
I experienced a similar thing with Ostara – loved the opening, but pretty soon it faded/became less exciting and I forgot all about it. I will retry, however.
Agree with you both…lovely but seems to fade quickly and loses its oomph if you will.
It’s too bad about the dry down – that was the only reason I resisted getting a bottle when it was on sale. Too bad, since I love Narcissus. At least it starts beautiful!
Wearing Muguet Fleuri by Oriza L. Legrand. Not my usual style, but it’s absolutely beautiful.
I love that one too–also not my normal style 🙂 It was nice to find a “clean” white floral that didn’t lead directly to a headache.
One of my favorite LOTV’s!
I’m in Bois des Iles today. First time I’ve worn it since someone said it smelled like urine. I never agreed with that assessment, but it got in my head for a while.
Everyone smells things differently, and everything will smell different on different skin. Taking negative comments on board if they aren’t your experience will only taint your joy. To hell with the nay-sayers! 😉
Agree! And just wanted to throw in that sometimes this is easier said than done, particularly when you happen upon someone’s offhand comment (urine, bug spray, etc) and it sticks in your mind like a catchy pop song or radio jingle.
i.e. “Buh-duh-huh-duh-duh, I’m lovin’ it!” 😉
Never heard that one before! I don’t see (smell) it at all.
Bois des Iles is one of my top five. Love it!
I’ve heard some people register indoles as fecal/urine, but I’ve never gotten that impression and it is difficult to understand how they got that impression from Bois des Iles. It is mostly woods and aldehydes – maybe they were responding to the aldehydes?
You could also try name-dropping Chanel if you think they were just being snide. I’ve never heard anybody describe a Chanel perfume as inelegant or repulsive, so it’s difficult to imagine they were talking about Bois des Iles. Maybe they were smelling themselves? 😉
I always wear perfume for my own enjoyment. If others like it too, wonderful. If they don’t, then you can always avoid that person/scrub depending on what is feasible.
I was surprised to hear it…I know everyone registers things differently but that came out of left field to me. It was a funny feeling, as I really do wear it for myself and rarely receive any comments at all. For a little while, though, it troubled me. Am I feeling all great, thinking I smell like a million bucks while the person next to me thinks I peed my pants?
People’s perceptions, especially with scent, are completely subjective. I think that point was completely made last year with the blue & black/white & gold dress debacle.
Ultimately I don’t think it’s possible to please everybody with my perfume so while I feel guilty if somebody does not enjoy my perfume, I do not take it to heart. If it’s a stranger I will disregard the comment, and try to avoid them in the future. If it’s from family, friends, or coworkers I will take their comments into consideration in the future but I won’t let that take away from my enjoyment of the scent in my own home.
I gain confidence from my own nose’s enjoyment of a scent. How did you build your confidence back up for Bois des Iles? And by the way, judging from the comments I would confidently say that person is an outlier, and we would completely enjoy it if we met somebody wearing Bois des Iles!
Thanks to Elisa P, I am in Orlov Cross of Asia today. My roommate is moving out and says she is pretty well packed but there’s a lot of stray stuff that isn’t in a box. She has movers coming today for the stuff that goes to her parents’ house and she’s renting a U-Haul for the stuff that’s going to VT with her. I’ll miss her
Sorry she’s moving. With luck, she will always remain a close friend.
Had a chance to sample Cross of Asia over the weekend. We just happened to be near Osswald Parfumerie in NY before the blizzard. Had we not been meeting friends, I could have closed the shop! Will have to plan another trip if we ever see the street again.
Thought the Orlov line is exclusive to Bergdorf’s. Anyway, I’ll be in NY for a day in mid Feb so I’ll be checking my circuit– Bergdorf’s, Twisted Lily and Osswald for new things to sample
My bad. Still sorting out all the lines!! It was Atelier des Ors line. Could not really mix up Cross of Asia with those. I guess I really did need more time in there ;-).
Oh oh, do let us know when! There’s a newbie in NY who may want to go sniffing with the pack!
I’ll be getting into NY around 2:30 Wed 2/17, meeting my boyfriend for dinner after 5 and will have the whole daytime of Th 2/18 free catching a bus back around 7pm
Also, while it’s kind of tiring, I can almost always come down on an early bus and leave on a late one on any given Tues or Thursday
Ok, may have to pick a different date for a get-together.
🙂 Sorry about losing a roommate you like. I always seemed to lose the ones I liked, and the others were the ones that stayed. Hope you’ll get to see her, anyway.
I’m in No. 5 parfum (with the EdT in my bag in case I need a touch-up, since I don’t like carrying the parfums around in my bag).
Nice!
I don’t blame you for not carrying around the parfums. I get nervous just taking them off my shelf, for fear that I’ll knock the bottle over.
I have to mentally prepare myself whenever I take one out of the box, lol!
I smile every time I see your icon. That puppy girl is too cute.
That’s Sugar Skull the Deaf-Defying Dog of Destiny! She’s my deaf rescue pittie and a (now retired) therapy dog. She has Firm Opinions on my perfume–some of them make her try to lick my wrist, while others make her give me the “You have got to be kidding” look.
I’m a sucker for pitties. And deaf, and a therapy dog, AND named Sugar Skull! She just gets cuter.
I applaud her for her many years of wonderful work! And for her cuteness, because obviously.
I love dogs like that that show that the whole breed isn’t bad. Every dog is different. She’s very happy looking. I used to think it would be difficult to train a deaf dog but I bet they respond well to visual signals. My puppy seems to not hear me half the time. Lol. She’s just ignoring me though.
Habanita! I’ve only worn this before in winter but as my winter choices were typical summer frags, this summer I’m really enjoying how rich scents just bloom in the heat. Not in blazing sun of course. This is a very sexy summer night scent.
I haven’t had much time over the last week so haven’t gotten around to thanking everyone for their birthday wishes! It was lovely to wake up to 🙂 (and lovestosmellgood jr shares my bday! Yay!)
I don’t think I commented that day, and I’m so sorry, so belatedly:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PERTHIE! You are a delightful member of our community and it wouldn’t be the same without you. I hope that some day we’ll get to meet and go sniffing.
Have a lovely one week after your birthday day!
Thanks so much Ihadanidea! You are so very sweet 🙂
And I’ll get there, I will! Hopefully everyone hasn’t tired of perfume and commenting by then because it would be wonderful to meet you all!
I want a trip to Australia at some point too, so it isn’t entirely on you to make your way over to us. And in the meantime, I’ll just be over here watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries….:)
I’d happily be your Perth/WA hostess 🙂 It’s beautiful here and worth the epic journey, imo. I was trying to think of other Aus movies/tv and realised how they all seem either gruesome or kooky. Miss Fisher’s great 🙂
You should read the books too–Phryne is more subversive in them. I enjoyed them more than the TV series, although the interpretation of twenties fashion was very pretty on TV
I intend to, eventually. My to-read list is just ridiculously long…
Happy Belated Birthday! I wanted to wish you well on the actual day, but didn’t see your post. I took that to mean you were having a wonderful time. 🙂
Love Miss Fisher! She’s just so very dashing. And her wardrobe is gorgeous. I’m waiting for Season 4 with baited breath, but maybe I’ll run out of patience and read the books in the meantime.
In the meantime, if you ever find yourself on the U.S. west coast…let us know!
And what have you done with your two weeks off? One more week to go!
Happy Australia Day! Hope you have fun all day.
Happy Birthday, Perthgirl, hope it was great fun!
Guerlain Terracotta! Maybe it is to snow like garlic to vampires . On a cold sunny day, the easy floral coconut is surprisingly comforting.
Nice! Maybe I’ll put on Terracotta after my Rose Ikebana wears off.
Mmm, sounds like a good choice
I’m wearing Diptyque’s Essences Insensees Mimosa. When I took a whiff out of my sample yesterday, I thought now *this* is how I want to feel about my perfume: delighted!
Have you seen Bois de Jasmine’s take on mimosa scents today?
I did! 😀
Oh my word, that is going right on my to-try list. That sounds absolutely beautiful!
Busy, busy week! Kickoff for the company in W, Oregon, then a business trip to Rochester NY. We are talking going from a relatively mild 55F to very wintry cold 33F. Oof.
Am keeping steady with Chanel Eau Premiere-
PS: I keep trying Bond New York perfumes, and seriously, seriously I can’t get behind any of them. They seem so harsh, with no warmth?
I hope your time in Rochester is rewarding, if chilly. Try to return in May!
I want to return for the Jazz Festival for vacation! I need to see if my company has any discounts.
Not sure if its changed, but Rochester was known as the Festival City back in the 90s. Pretty much consecutive all summer.
I find lots of them meh, and many I still haven’t tried, but I love Chinatown and will happily wear Broadway Nite when the mood takes me 🙂
Oh, okay! At least there are few being worn!
The only ones I like from that vast line are Chinatown, New Harlem, and I kinda liked Queens (but maybe just because I live there 😉 )
Yesterday I defied weather and rationale thought and wore Bond #9 Fire Island. It turned out to be the perfect antidote for the cold and damp. To me, it sometimes smells synthetic, but other times it is the perfect happy summer beachy scent.
It’s that hard, hard plastic-y Lysol edge that kinda throws me off so many of them.
I sampled several Bond fragrances a couple years ago and didn’t feel like I had to pursue any. Then in the last couple years they have been multiplying like rabbits and there’s no way to keep up…so I haven’t.
And like bunnies many of them smell much the same! 🙁
I can’t get behind those ugly bottles. Eeesh!
GAUDY, the bottles are- you have to be in the right mood to display them!
My local Nordstrom carries the full line and some of them are downright appalling. They look like something you’d buy as a souvenir from a Yankees game. I don’t get it.
Yes, yes, yes agreed!
I bought several when the line was new but I am totally over them now. They seem very screechy and synthetic.
See, this has been my impression- the notes sound lovely but then you wear them on your sleeve and it’s loud as hell, with no nuance whatsoever. I am all about good synthetics BUT well done.
I agree, they use a chemical that is awfully acrid and feels like it’s burning my nose. Like rubbing alcohol. But, from reviews and comments I’m sure they have a few gems – just not sure I would ever pay that much for a printed bottle with juice that doesn’t feel that special. Perhaps if I got a custom blend and bottle? Still think I would rather splurge on a beautiful Serge Lutens bell jar or Guerlain bee bottle.
Okay, so it was not me, because I did try some and I felt like my nostrils were burning! And you are right- there are other makers with beautiful gentle juice AND lovely bottles!
Monday again. Ugh. So hard to get motivated…guess that’s what the deadlines are for 🙁
SOTD for me is Hiram Green’s Voyage which helps considerably with it being Monday.
I wore PHI yesterday and my husband complained non-stop how awful I smelled. I do wonder how scents smell on me by others. I had a roommate years and years ago who wore a scent that I thought was really nasty on her. She loved it and sprayed with abandon, but I wonder if it was just me or many felt the way I did, which makes me wonder about how my scents come off to others.
Too much thinking for a Monday!
Such a shame that we can’t bring your husband’s scent-tastes in line with yours. I bet you smell lovely, even though I haven’t smelled Voyage!
And by the way, I’m enjoying my Azemour today – thank you!
Glad you like it!
My friend wears Alien and I love how she smells. I was surprised because I disliked it on me. I tried it again- still a near scrubber. Also, she and I are very different in general. Maybe the expectations others have of how we should smell can differ from our own, in addition to the body chemistry issue?
It’s a good point. How much does personality play in the fragrance we wear? If someone knows you as being from upbeat and glass-half full and you wear a very dark scent maybe that turns off someone just because it doesn’t fit.
Who knows!
My best friend for years was my evil scent twin- everything she wore I thought was vile and I lived with her so the house often reeked of Red Door or TBS Ananya or something else I hated. She got lots of compliments though so it was obviously just my taste. She may well have hated my perfumes too!
I used to wear and love Red Door! 🙂
Thanks for the perspective.
Funny, my husband didn’t like PHI either, and he rarely comments on anything I wear.
That’s so interesting, I really would not have picked Phi as likely to draw objections (other than from the crowd that objects to all perfume.)
My husband is quite tolerant but would NEVER use any scent himself. If I don’t fuss about his toys, he won’t fuss about mine.
That’s how we are. He’s glad it makes me happy, but it’s not his thing. He’ll comment if it gives him a headache, but otherwise it’s respectful.
Same here, although he doesn’t understand fragrance as a hobby he knows to respect and support me because it makes me happy. It doesn’t hurt that it gives him another thing to compliment me on. 😉
Wow, PHI? That is a great scent, hard to believe it smells bad on you. Maybe his nose went off…
That is funny…Phi is one (of a select few) that my man will notice and say I smell great. Strange, because many others he’ll just say “it is strong!”
Found my sample of vintage Parfum Sacree, so I sprayed liberally from my bottle of more current PS, and put dabs of the vintage on my wrists. 4 hours later, floating along on a cloud of sweetly incensey goodness.
In our team meeting this morning, we heard that one of the key people in our development group is leaving with 2 weeks notice 8 weeks before a primary build date is due. This project is floundering, people are fleeing like rats from a sinking ship. I am such a small cog in the wheel, my supervisor tells me “Think of it as job security….” Ugh.
Hate that sinking feeling. More perfume!
Yes, more perfume!
Parfum Sacre is fantastic! Hope it helps a little.
Parfum Sacre is so good.
That sounds terrible. I’m currently on a project where we are losing money on it, and probably will not be able to recoup the cost, but at least I have work! Ugh.
Thank goodness for perfume.
I’m so sorry you’re in that position. If I had to deal with business politics again I’d just wander off to a highway underpass and freeze to death. With a smile on my face.
I’m wearing Femme. Got a craving for that spicy, rich plum.
I decided to dedicate this weekend to retrying perfumes I reacted badly to the first time. I still can’t quite reconcile Narcisse Noir, though it’s not as horrifying as I previously found it. I wonder if the vintage is very different?
However, I also gave Mon Parfum Cheri Par Camille in EDT another try… and fell head over heels. It’s a gorgeous plump iris with plummy, spicy patchouli underneath. Why didn’t I like this before? It’s so grown up and womanly, all black pumps and red lips. Unfortunately I just dropped a fair amount on some backup vintage Mitsouko, so i can’t run out and buy a bottle. And it looks like the EDT is discontinued? WOE.
What concentration is the Narcisse Noir? I have some parfum (which was a blind buy several years ago because of the stunning bottle and it’s history) which for years I referred to as my Miss Havisham perfume. Smelled like decay. But it fascinated me, and though it’s still most definitely my Miss Havisham perfume, now it’s something I love about it. If I had participated in the Noir challenge it definitely would’ve been that.
After my post on Friday about Norma Desmond’s tuberose perfume (Sunset Boulevard) I tried to find if there was a specific perfume that was being referenced and one source said Narcisse Noir. Those past-their-prime heroines might smell like decay.
Yes, I think that’s what she says is Narcisse Noir. I also read somewhere that the reference for her character WAS Miss Havisham, so the association is definitely all tied up in decaying beauty. It also smells like what my grandmother’s linen closet used to smell like, and she kept linen from at least the 50’s. All manner of disintegration!
It’s not one I’d wear to the pub but it intrigues me enough to wear it at home.
I’ve never smelled it, but now I’m very curious.
Have you tested the J.Hannah Co. Sunset Boulevard at all? I’m really curious about this one.
I’ve never heard of that line. I’ll have to look it up.
Now you have me worried. Didn’t they make Skive for Canoe Goods
http://www.jhannahco.com/
…phew.
It’s the parfum, ordered within the last year from Surrender to Chance I believe. I agree the bottle is the best; it looks so mysterious. The NST review describes NN thusly:
“Narcisse Noir starts very heady (even in the Eau de Toilette), with sweet citrus and orange blossom. The orange blossom is joined shortly by the narcissus, but maintains its prominence through the dry down. Once the top notes fade, it is deep, rich, and very elegant, but no longer particularly heady or overly sweet. ”
But I get very little headiness or sweetness! Just a high pitched soap, the kind that burns your nose – not sweet at all, over a weird inky-oily darkness that reminds me of gasoline.
I thought they brought that one back after temporarily discontinuing it? Anyway, you smell great!
I have a sample of the Par Camille and was impressed, too. I see it as a strictly “big evening out” perfume though.
I’m wearing Jo Malone Blue Agava & Cacao, lightly applied. I’ve been battling a bronchial/sinus/allergy thing since late Friday. I lost my voice on Saturday, and now I’m waiting for the doctor’s office to call me back, to see if I should come in.
Ugh. Usually when my voice goes, it is the point I actually start to feel better… Hope that is true in your case!
I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you. I’m still waiting for the doctor’s office to call. There must be a lot of sick people today, along with me.
Good luck ditching it fast!
ELdO Like This. Happy with my choice!
My SOTD is Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey. Having a difficult time staying awake this morning and was hoping that this “happy” fragrance would help with that. Mondays are the worst.
Up for three hours already, had coffee, and I’m still groggy. Might take a nap! Ah, the joys of retirement! SOTD is Ambre Precieux.
You know, I am always surprised when I wear a particular scent that I like, or even love, and suddenly I find I can’t stand it on that particular day. On the other hand I enjoy the heck out of the times that I wear an OK scent, and find that it really smells great to me on that day. Today I am wearing Desert Rose, which I have always liked a lot, it is one of my favorite roses. Suddenly, it smells even better than I remember and I’m loving it.
PriscillaE, please email me if you see this.
Inspired by Elisa’s post on BdJ, I’m cheating winter in Diptyque IE Jasmin today. I had a near wipeout in an icy patch on my way to the train, but at least I smelled good in that ungraceful moment!
I can’t wait to try IE Jasmin!
Thank goodness you didn’t fall – I’m honestly quite afraid of driving and walking on ice.
It’s really a lovely jasmine-a more wearable Lush Lust. I really wanted it in the solid but it sold out quickly and it was a limited edition 🙁 The SA gave me some spray samples with a candle purchase, though.
Thanks! My boots are waterproof but the tread is not very good.
You smell great.
Thanks!
Didn’t your mother tell you to always smell good, what if you got hit by a car?
I have liberally spray myself from my new full bottle of 31 Rue Cambon. Squee!
*sprayed
(we knew what you meant!) Spray with abandon! That’s what full bottles are for! Whee!
Wonderful!
Wearing Ostara for the second time today w/ some unscented lotion for staying power.
I have to say the Penhaligon packaging is lovely except their caps. First I could barely get the the cap off…then the metal band within the plastic cap shifted and now the cap is loose. The cap is plastic and looks quite cheap compared to the box and bottle.
I seem to remember the days when perfume caps, not just bottles, were made of glass. Now it seems almost all caps are plastic. 🙁
My kingdom for some glass caps!!! Trying to think what brands nowadays still have glass caps if any…
I love that slight ‘grind’ you get when you ease a glass cap or stopper back. One of the reasons I like CB I hate perfumes is for the stopper grind experience.
Yes, I love that glass on glass grind too!
Twins!
My Penhaligon’s caps are like that too (and Cuir de Lancome). Must remember to not pick it up by the lid or it all comes crashing down :-/
I was able to fix my Cuir de Lancome cap so that it fits snugly. Someone on basenotes posted instructions. I can try and find the link if you’d like.
Sorry kpaint – had missed your comment.
No worries – you saved me the time finding the link 😀
There is an easy fix for that CdL cap but I’m getting a mani and can’t look it up. Would prob work w/ Penhaligon top too. Will write later!
http://www.basenotes.net/threads/307210-Cuir-de-Lancome-loose-cap-fix
Thanks so much….I will try this.
I am so with you on the glass caps. It’s crushing to see a photo of a gorgeous bottle only to find that IRL the cap is made of cheap plastic!
Aren’t Serge Lutens bell jars made with ground glass tops? Of course, they are insanely expensive…
Puppies and lambs! What a cheerful, hopeful, fuzzy day here at NST! Love it.
Wearing JHAG’s Vengeance Extreme on one elbow and Atelier Cologne’s Rose Anonyme on the other, trying to do a comparison. They went on pretty much identically. The Rose Anonyme is a bit sweeter, and seems a bit stronger on me. But otherwise, they’re the same perfume. Of course, YMMV.
Wasn’t the weekend post brilliant? What a fantastic perfume resource. I’ve written down all the notes and favourite perfume in my best ‘take with me everywhere’ notebook. I feel like a wider world has opened up: Rice notes, rosewood, hyraceum ( I thought that was an invasive weed so need to check that out ), datura (big bush of this down the road), and Iris of course ( thanks Robin). Seems such a pity that almost none of the named favourites were mainstream ( a few Guerlain, Prada and Chanels but not many). It’s a pity only in that I can’t test many of the favourites just yet.
Great walk in steaming drizzle yesterday. Every scent was magnified but the two standouts were the avenue of flowering linden trees ( Roget and Gallet linden soaps were a favourite once ) and the knock out punch of a grove of giant eucalyptus trees ( that detoxed my nasal passages). Wearing Eau Premiere and waiting for the sun to rise as the grey outdoors lightens.
Grew up in Berkeley Ca where there are thousands of eucalyptus trees transplanted from Australia in the early 1800s. Love the eucalyptus scent in the air on a hot day. It is the smell of summer for me.
And the radiata pines I walk through came from California originally, introduced here in the 1850s! Several other species were brought over by miners during the gold rush.
You are kidding me? Really? I LOVE that. We exchanged gorgeous trees. I had no idea. I have so often thought about the seeds of those early Eucalyptus trees tucked in pockets and purses of hopeful loggers or Gold Rush dreamers coming from Australia… but I never knew that our beautiful Monterey Pines had been brought back to Australia, probably for logging as well.
It’s a very interesting history. I’m in New Zealand and eucalyptus first arrived here from Australia (Tasmania) in the 1840s.
http://friendswbg.org.nz/newPINUSRADIATA.html
P.Rads (as we call them) a bit later. I’ll give them your regards when I go for my walk later. The toadstools and boletes are just appearing.
So, from what I can tell, the Eucalyptus came to CA about the same time it was brought to NZ. Some environmentalists feel it is an invasive species and are working to reduce their number. Where I live, we get hot Santa Ana winds and the oily trees were blamed for throwing added fuel on the great Oakland Hills fire in 1991 in which 25 people were killed and thousands of homes were destroyed. The trees are really magnificent, and along with the Bay trees, Redwoods and Monterey Pines give this area its heavenly scent.
And the long bark strips are incredible…here’s to trees! And Australia!
Steaming drizzle sounds amazing. It must be incredibly fragrant.
Sadly it’s pouring rain today, and colder. Perthgirl would know more about this than me but on very hot days you get a blue (perfume) haze rising up off eucalyptus (hence the Blue Mountains near Sydney) . One of my best scent memories are related to a stay in the Blue Mountains.
In Marni from a sample I bought on eBay…. No need to rush out and buy an FB but I would definitely wear this if I owned it. Draw back is that the dry down is very light on my skin, and I want to keep reapplying it….thematically it reminds me of some of the Hermessences.
Marni kind of snuck up on me. After not being very impressed by it, I suddenly found myself wearing it a lot AND owning both flankers.
It’s so wearable! Maybe I should do that today instead of Sweet Redemption.
Can you describe the original vs Marni Rose?
I’ll be glad to hear Eleebelle’s take too, so just for another data point (as someone who owns both), I find the Marni Rose crisper and greener–I’d say “fresher” but I worry it’ll sound boring which it’s not!–than the original. Ironically, I find the original Marni to be rosier than Marni Rose. Both rose scents for sure, just the original feels more “red rose” to me and Marni Rose feels closer to a green-colored scent if that makes sense. If you’ve smelled both the L’Ombre EDT (original) and EDP, I’d say L’Ombre EDP is closer to first Marni, L’Ombre EDT closer to Marni Rose. Not that they are the same at all, just for frame of reference…
Both Marnis are quite lightweight altho sometimes I feel like the original has some nuttiness to it which warms it up a bit–but still certainly not heavy.
Hope that helps!
Hah. CH. So interesting. So I find (I love doing comparisons when I can actually sniff the two as the same time!) the Marni Rose, more rosy than the original. On me, the original has a pink pepper thing and even maybe citrus pulp at the start that drys down to a sheer rose spice; while the Marni Rose has a rose/cosmetics violet scent tendency on me (in a good way), but also sheer. Neither of the scents are powerhouses, but I find both very pretty. While the original Marni, for me, evokes Hermessences… the Marni Rose evokes Prada Infusion d’Iris in its texture–not its scent–if that makes any sense (scents 😉 )!
I TOTALLY agree that Marni is rosier and Marni Rose is greener. Marni Rose makes me think of a damp spring day, which is honestly a lovely idea right about now
Oh Oakland Fresca you know what, I totally see you Id’I references and I would say another good comparison would be, Marni Rose is like Id’I as you say, while original Marni is more like Id’I Absolue! The original Id’I being sheerer and crisper, the Absolue being more rounded (but still by no means a heavy scent.)
Meanwhile Eleebelle, I am SO with you, Marni Rose smells exactly like spring. You mentioning that makes me want to wear it with Black March!
What are your thoughts on Marni Spice?
I have a little bit of a hard time with Marni Rose. I almost like it, but there’s a green note in there that I’m not crazy about (mint?). Personally, I think the original is smoother, more versatile and feels a little more “grown up,” though less feminine. It’s just a matter of preference, though. I can definitely see what’s likable about Marni Rose, too.
Thank you, all. Now I want to smell both! 🙂 I love green-tinged roses and cosmetic roses, and sheer red rose with spice and nuttiness sounds delightful. I have worn L’Ombre in both EDT and EDP so I get the reference. (I feel like my newbie training wheels are starting to come off – I’ve smelled a lot in the past year!)
Yeah I think the mint is noticeable–personally I like it but I would not recommend it for anyone who is not so into that idea!
Ah and kpaint, yes I feel like once you start comparing different concentrations of a given scent, there’s no turning back, you’re one of us now 😉 😉
kpaint, if you’re in the U.S. and don’t already have some Marni Rose at your disposal, I’d be happy to send along a sample. As you might have guessed from my slight green aversion, I don’t wear it a whole lot.
I don’t have any at my disposal and would love to smell it. Thanks for the generous offer! Will email you shortly!
I was looking at Marni on ebay this weekend. I do love the packaging, which makes a FB blind buy tempting.
I would say Marni is a very safe blind buy – it is utterly pleasant. I don’t mean that it’s wimpy at all, just that there’s not much to offend in there and it just smells darn GOOD.
I have a sample of Marni which you have made me eager to revisit.
Good day to NST everywhere. Yesterday at work started well and ended perfectly horribly, to the point that I’m so upse and angry that I can hardly bring myself to go in! But I must and will, of course, though it’s been many a long year since the very idea of going to work has made me cry hot tears. I hate injustice! So, where is 19 when I need her? After Sunday’s performance, she’s relegated to the back of my Chanel shelf with a huge question mark over her head, that’s where! What to do now for a warrior woman scent, what to do, what to do? I think I might wear Femme, lots of it, and a short black dress all covered in scarlet flowers (I’m a rather too old, perhaps, but too bad!) and to hell with the consequences! Step aside, world: I’m coming through!
I hope today is a better day Waterdragon and you smell lovely.
That’s rotten ( hope the problem is resolved ). Femme to the rescue!
Dear Waterdragon – You should be so happy knowing that just writing those words, so perfectly describing a feeling we all have had, you have won the day. “Crying hot tears, where is she No. 19 [remembering your issue with that]” and your glorious spirit saying you will wear a short black dress with flowers and I’m coming through! You have feelings AND a sense of humor and irony.
Oh my gosh – I’m so sorry!! Hope today is better, and of course that you and 19 will make peace.
Could you ease back into 19 with soap and bath gel? A deep bath mmmm…
C&E Sandalwood EDT (old version). I love this little decant and it’s becoming ever more clear that I will have to stalk the ebay for its replacement soon. Sigh.
After a shower I’ll be wearing Cuir de Russie on one arm and Cuir de Lancôme on the other. In either case, or arm, I think I’ll smell pretty darn good.
Indeed!
You do 🙂
That was for karen B, obviously…
I think I am gonna do some Sweet Redemption here shortly. Trying to buck up from the unwilling experiment I am currently running, provisionally titled “Effects on Mood of Being Trapped Indoors for Three Days and Counting with No Internet or Landline Phone Service” (hello from my cell phone which, maddeningly, is going in and out: I do have a signal-boosting device that usually makes my phone work reliably at my house…but it only works if the Internet’s up. Of course.)
Oh goodness, that sounds emotionally strenuous–I think I’d go crazy! I hope your internet/phone comes back very VERY soon… and that you get back out into the world soon. I took a walk around the block yesterday after being trapped inside for a few days, and it made a huge difference.
You know, I will make it a point to go outside. Have hit stage of grumpiness where motivation to do anything constructive is seriously flagging but prob just proves all the more how much I need to take this advice!! Thank you 🙂
I got cabin fever staying in for 1 day! I can’t imagine being trapped for longer and without access to the outside world. Hope it sorts out soon!
Well wishes so appreciated! Yes turns out, I do not do so well when deprived of human contact!
On the upside, at least you’ve got power? I hear you on that, though. Ours used to go out all the time and it’s like losing a life line.
Very lucky for power that’s for sure! I think partly the issue is that our internet here is usually steadfast so I was pretty ill-equipped when it went out. At my parents’ place out west, it goes down constantly and so you really always go prepared with hard copies of necessary materials for work, diversions that don’t depend on the internet, etc. Did not think to do that here unfortunately!
In Noir Epices today. Oddly it didn’t feel right, just sort of scratchy. Might transfer to Samsara or Fleur de Cassie when I get home. Hope all people affected by snow are warm and safe x
Haven’t had time this morning to read what everyone is wearing, I’ll have to catch up later. Meanwhile, unusually humid here, so I’m going for Chamade.
Went to the dental school again. Instead of doing what I thought they were going to do (tooth extraction, root canal, cavity filling), they did impressions of my teeth. They explained why but it still sucked. Wore Iris Silver Mist to it. I have come to the conclusion that anything iris dominant at the dentist’s office works really well.
Weather on the west coast is beautiful today – sunny and warm! To celebrate the oncoming spring I am in Chanel Coco. Hope everybody else is staying warm and getting enough Vitamin D.
Sunny and warm here, too (left coast.) I’m considering going for a walk outdoors instead of on the treadmill…
ooh u lucky thing, have a lovely walk!
Yes! Vitamin D is crucial!! Glad you’re getting it in spades!
I’ve got a rotten cold, but haven’t lost my sense of smell yet. Just discovered how wonderful citrus and orange blossom perfumes are at these times!- yesterday, while feeling pretty sorry for myself in bed, my husband brought up a little packet the postman had just delivered, a travel spray of Seville A L’Aube, my goodness did it cheer me up!, such an uplifting one, and cosy too.
Today wearing Shalimar vintage edp, which is also pretty good with a cold.
Hope you feel better. There’s vocal divisive camps on this. I happen to love it.
I seem to remember reaching for orange blossom while recovering from a recent cold. Feel better soon.
I’m wearing my beautiful Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Amouse Bouche, that Oriental strawberry jammy buttery brioche as a white winter celebration.
What a yummy description!
Woke up to sunny warm(ish) temps with a trace of misty fog in the air. Chanel 22 seemed perfect but it turns out not to be quite what I want to smell like. Which is fine since I’m still in pajamas…
SOTD is Gucci Eau de Parfum (the brown juice from 2002 or so). Very comfy, yet elegant.
Love! You smell great!
I’m in Hermes Iris Ukiyoe today. I can never go wrong with this one.
Friday should be fun! I have some 1960’s-era EDT from my aunt that I haven’t worn all winter, so it’ll be the perfect excuse to pull it out.
Also, randomly, does anyone else have this issue – my family knows I love perfume, but always gets me *empty* perfume bottles, vintage or otherwise… they’re pretty, but we all know the juice inside is the important part!
Really? That’s very odd. I would not appreciate an empty bottle!
Hmmmm. Are they formerly full but now empty, or decorative decanters? I’ve gotten a few of those and some are very pretty but I hope it’s not some sort of weird hint from them. Or maybe they’re not confident in knowing your taste to get you actual perfume?
Reminds me of my mother-in-law who likes to buy me pig-themed gifts because I once hunted down from several Home Goods stores a rustic wooden pig I’d seen and wanted. I don’t have the heart to tell her I’m not really into pig paraphernalia-it was just that ONE.
Haha, I love the story about the pigs! But am sorry it’s now a tradition… 🙁 My sister actually collected pig paraphernalia in high school, so we had a lot of pigs around our house at one time, too! Though I assume you don’t keep all of them. 🙂
My father-in-law gave me a Vaseline glass perfume bottle for Christmas this year… slightly radioactive and glows under a black light. Thank you?? And my sister gave me some vintage empty bottles, the best being a Mitsouko bottle c. 1940-1950 with some syrupy something inside, but I don’t think I’ll be keeping them… the syrup looks adulterated… and I don’t own a blacklight…
The pigs made me smile, but the radioactive bottle made me laugh. 😀 I’m sorry they haven’t figured out you want more than the bottle. Perhaps you can start a subliminal message campaign telling them to buy full bottles?
Also, the syrup at the bottom of the Mitsouko could be perfume that has had most of its liquid evaporated out. You can potentially salvage it by putting in Everclear, but you’ll want to do research before you try it. And try it on paper before putting it on your skin.
Good call about trying it on paper first!
That brings me to a confession… until I received the bottle, in my head it was spelled Mitsouku, and pronounced that way too – mitt-so-koo.
Woe is me.
Lol!!! Hope those gifts don’t become a tradition either, although some people collect empty vintage bottles. You can always sell them on EBay. And I’m trying to picture what the heck that Vaseline perfume bottle is all about. Ask him for a black light next Christmas 🙂
aahhh!! hectic day. Posting and running. Gucci Rush today.
How appropriate! 🙂
SOTD = Cuir Beluga
Have I ever mentioned I love this? I did some work work yesterday (besides the shoveling which is labor work) and today, I decided not to chance it with the commute so working from home. I still have quite a few more hours to go with an implementation.. I am keeping my fingers, toes and eyes crossed!
Good luck on your project! You smell fabulous. Cuir Beluga is a favorite of mine too.
Thanks! Enough dilly-dallying and havento get back to work.
I didn’t want to get up today either, FWIW.. I’m trying to fix an issue with a client’s site, but I don’t know what’s causing the issue exactly. ugh.
But I’m wearing Bottega Veneta today so at least I smell good.
Ooh, sweergrass, email me please.
Wearing lots of Amouage Beloved to keep my spirits up as I await my puppy girl who is at the vets getting teeth extracted. Can’t wait to rescue her and hold her close. She is so beloved.
At times like that I wish I could talk to my dog and explain what’s happening. Same when you go on holiday…it’s ok! I’ll be back in two days!!
What an apropos scent. It’s so heartbreaking that they don’t understand 🙁 But they never hold a grudge, do they? Hope she’s feeling well soon!
I know, how traumatizing for them, right? When our dog gets back from one of those trips we spoil her rotten. Hey, buying all those new treats and toys is how we cope with the trauma of not having our pets to cuddle with, okay? 😉
Couldn’t decide what I felt like wearing today; so, pulled out a cheapy that I had not worn but bought at discount: Shakira S.
Not too bad! Jasmin/Vanilla, but soft, not loud.
Put on Bois d’Argent just before bedtime. Hope tomorrow is an easier day for us all. Happy Birthday, Hamamelis, sorry I missed it!
Tea: Kusmi tea – Prinz Wladimir; out of the special edition box designed by Jean Paul Gaultier. And to make the package complete
I´m wearing: Classique.
