Monday scent of the day 1/25

Posted by Robin on 25 January 2016 366 Comments

Prada Spring 2016

Happy Monday, everyone! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm barely awake in Prada Candy. Tea at the moment: Kusmi Traktir.

Reminder: 1/29 will be Shalimar Friday! Wear Guerlain Shalimar, or a Shalimar flanker, or a perfume that is related to Shalimar in some way (it does not have to be by Guerlain!)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD is Amouage Sunshine Man. Monday morning currently means an 04:50 alarm, taxi, train, tube (subway) and light rail journey schlepping a backpack and suitcase, so I need something reasonably robust! :^) Also the name and the citrus elements are cheerful, which is helpful on a January Monday.

Thanks Ede97005, hope you’re having a great day too! The irony is that it’s probably less than 125 miles, but completely impractical to drive in my own car because of the crazy congestion in London. ;^)

Inspired by Victoria’s recent BdJ post on pinks, I decided to try wearing Hermes Rose Ikebana in the winter. So far, so good, although I’ve yet to venture into the cold outside my home.

I sampled Rose Ikebana for the first time a couple weeks ago and, at first sniff, thought it was nice but not that interesting. Then later in the day I continued to marvel at how good I smelled and when I finally did laundry I found the shirt in the hamper which I had worn and wouldn’t you know…it still smelled wonderful days later? 😉 I saw it in Victoria’s list too and am going to wear it again this week.

We’ve been bottle-feeding a lamb, one of a set of twins whose mama seems to have forgotten she had two babies, and only fed one… it was so cold on Friday that without nourishment he almost froze, but when my 17 yo son went to check on his sheep he found this little one lethargic. Brought him in, dried him off, plopped him on a towel-covered heating pad and fed him milk with a syringe until he warmed up enough to figure out what the baby bottle was for. Now Snowflake is getting four bottles a day and doing well! Been a busy weekend, though, and I’m really glad we didn’t lose power in the storm.

SOTD is Organza Indecence, because it is COLD, y’all.

Aw, so glad Snowflake perked up! I would imagine that being responsible for animals when the weather is hazardous could be quite stressful, so thank goodness you all make it through fine. I too was a little concerned about the power holding up here in NoVa, and the possibility of the gigantic evergreens looming near the house succumbing to the weight of all that ice and snow.

I was so preoccupied with our dog that I completely missed Snowflake! Would love to see a picture… We used to have sheep for a time when I was little and when the little lambs were born, I was completely overwhelmed. Still would be, I think. Unfortunately, our land was too low and wet for sheep, so we had to give them up.

I found my tiny Memoir decant while doing some re-orginization last evening. It had fallen behind some boxes on my perfume shelf and was mostly evaporated, so I did what any good perfumista would do and smeared a glob of concentrated perfume-sludge on my arm before adding some Everclear to the bottle to see if I could reanimate the remains.
This morning, rather unsurprisingly, I still smell strongly of Memoir (or “that one that smells like a church,” as Mr. minion calls it). The sheets, my robe, the sofa, my desk, and the cats are rather nicely scented too. Doolittle was indifferent to it and just wanted cuddles, but Newburg tried to sneak up and lick my arm several times. I always wonder if he’s trying to clean me because I stink or taste me because I smell great? He doesn’t react very often to my scent so I suspect the latter.

One of my cats responds to SSS Rose Musc by crawling up in my lap, and nuzzling and slobbering all over my hands and wrists, purring away like mad. He will keep this up until I dislodge him. Must be lady civet musc that is driving him kitty-wild. 🙂 I’ll have to get a sample of Memoir and see if he responds the same way to this one. 🙂

One of my cats loves anything scented on skin. Lotion, perfume, essential oils, deodorant. I can foist him off during the day, but he frequently wakes me up at night when he is licking off whatever he can get to. I even found him licking my sheets one night! Eew!

If only all males could be so attentive, though. 😉

I have Miss Charming, and have smelled most of the line. I second Elisa, and think that it is Ambroxan that links these guys. They have one, “Not a Perfume” that is pretty much entirely Ambroxan, but all of their fragrances have that undercurrent, at least to my nose!

I bought the sample set w/ 8 of their perfumes and I agree there is a definite common theme/undercurrent. I sampled and enjoyed them all but didn’t feel like I wanted to run out and buy any. I need to try them all again.

I’m wearing Mimosa & Cardamom, but there is something more important to announce (yes, more important than my SOTD): we have a dog! Since yesterday evening! We promised our daughter a while ago that she’ll get a dog after she has finished reading her first book. That happened in the end of last year and now we have a little white West Highland Terrier and we are all in love.

Thank you for all the puppy love! I posted the comment and then had to work very intensively for a while, so I’ve just come back to find all this. Your comments have made everything even better.

We don’t have a name for her yet, I’m thinking maybe Lumi – it means ‘snow’ in Estonian. Or King Richard 😉 It’s up to Lill (my daughter) to decide in the end. Her own name means ‘flower’ in Estonian, btw.

The book Lill read was called Life on a Farm and she seemed to enjoy it well enough. She likes to read, although maybe not quite as much as I did as a child, but I was extreme by any standards. She generally prefers drawing and can draw for hours, which I find amazing. And, well, she can read in Estonian and French, something I cannot say for myself.

Congratulations! Your terrier sounds adorable; will you feature her in a blog post? I am completely charmed by the idea of naming a white terrier after snow, and the name “Lumi” is great (short but sweet). Estonian sounds like a beautiful language.

Lill is also a great name, and any child who can sit still doing something for hours is amazing. And she’s bilingual! How wonderful, and hope your family enjoys the new dog.

Do let us know how your dog reacts to your perfumes (mine tries to lick the ones she likes, and she sneezes and avoids me when she doesn’t like them).

YAY for terriers! I had a wire fox terrier that I still miss almost every day. The other night my H & I were watching a Thin Man movie and he coughed up that he’d been looking up wire fox terrier breeders… My recollection is that westies are just as naughty but a bit easier going. Sitting at my desk and still scentless, as of yet. Decided to throw on some Azemour, courtesy of the lovely Floragal. It’s rather unlike me to want something so “fresh” at this time of year, but the mood struck and I’m going with it.

A friend very generously gave me the Nishane sampler for Christmas, and I tried Ambra Calabria last night before bed. Reminded me very much of L’ambre des Merveilles, which I love, and which is cheaper.

I have a sample of Afrika Olifant I tried yesterday. It’s lovely but it reminded me of something I already knew- L’air de Rein. It seems that the more new release samples I try the more I find ones that resemble what’s already out there. Because of the residual snow, I’m working from home again. It’s only been 5 days since winter really took shape here, but I’m already tired of it. Wearing Sotto La Luna Gardenia because I needed something from left field, and this is just about as far away from what I normally wear as anything. I kinda like it, but probably because it doesn’t smell like gardenia.

I’m in Wildfox today. A sample I got from Nordstrom that I wasn’t familiar with. It’s interesting. It’s a BWF at heart, but it has touches of incense, and something weirdly green that might be the wormwood. I’m just not sure exactly what wormwood smells like. I’m getting a lot of apricot too.

I spent the weekend cleaning and working on my tabletop RPG character. Exciting, at least to me.

Does anyone know why decants of Chergui are SO expensive on STC? A 5ml spray costs as much as a full 1.7oz bottle from Fragrancenet.com. Is their Chergui the non-export version? I was going to buy a large decant instead of getting a FB, but not at those prices.

I think the markup on $/ml is probably based on the retail price, which for non export is like $120 ish.

Newbiebex, you may want to just buy the tester bottle from Fragrancenet and wait until Splitmeet to do your first split! It is easy to do because the atomizer top comes off. I’ll give you pointers via email…I think I can just dust off an older email to someone who wanted to get started.

Thank you! That is an excellent idea! I might have to do that. I definitely want a good supply of it, but I feel like a FB is excessive. I’m trying to take the “buy fewer FBs” advice I’ve gotten here.

I would also love to split a bottle of Royal Princess Oud by Creed, since I can’t find it on any of the decant sites.

The Chergui gets a lot of love on this board so you are likely to get people interested in splitting and while there’s always a risk of no one taking you up for it, the initial layout is not a bajillion. As for the Creed, you may want to solicit commitments during Splitmeet, get paid, before buying the bottle.

          • newbiebex says:
            25 January 2016 at 6:34 pm

Good advice. Thank you! If I got “stuck” with a FB of Chergui it wouldn’t be the worst thing ever. It would just mean I could wear it with abandon!

The Creed is so expensive. I tried it on at NM and it lasted forever, and smelled so good. I’m picky about oud, but it’s well done in that one.

Hate to enable but when that’s the situation, I say go for the FB. That seems to often be the case with large(r) decants. I don’t know if you are an ebay shopper, but I did look this up and saw a 5 ml manufacturer’s mini for $24.99. I have a SL mini and it’s adorable 🙂 They are dab, not spray, though. Again, not to enable…

Just my opinion, $24.99 for a 5 mL mini is very expensive considering you can get 50 mLs for < $70'with coupons. Even Walmart has it online at $59.99 (this is the First time I've seen Walmart, Walmart???) selling Serge Lutens.

It’s late and I don’t know if you’ll see this, but a LOT of the guys on Basenotes are Creed fanatics. There are often splits available of new or very popular Creeds from a number of splitters so you can comparison shop.

Agree! And just wanted to throw in that sometimes this is easier said than done, particularly when you happen upon someone’s offhand comment (urine, bug spray, etc) and it sticks in your mind like a catchy pop song or radio jingle.

        i.e. “Buh-duh-huh-duh-duh, I’m lovin’ it!” 😉

I’ve heard some people register indoles as fecal/urine, but I’ve never gotten that impression and it is difficult to understand how they got that impression from Bois des Iles. It is mostly woods and aldehydes – maybe they were responding to the aldehydes?

You could also try name-dropping Chanel if you think they were just being snide. I’ve never heard anybody describe a Chanel perfume as inelegant or repulsive, so it’s difficult to imagine they were talking about Bois des Iles. Maybe they were smelling themselves? 😉

I always wear perfume for my own enjoyment. If others like it too, wonderful. If they don’t, then you can always avoid that person/scrub depending on what is feasible.

I was surprised to hear it…I know everyone registers things differently but that came out of left field to me. It was a funny feeling, as I really do wear it for myself and rarely receive any comments at all. For a little while, though, it troubled me. Am I feeling all great, thinking I smell like a million bucks while the person next to me thinks I peed my pants?

People’s perceptions, especially with scent, are completely subjective. I think that point was completely made last year with the blue & black/white & gold dress debacle.

Ultimately I don’t think it’s possible to please everybody with my perfume so while I feel guilty if somebody does not enjoy my perfume, I do not take it to heart. If it’s a stranger I will disregard the comment, and try to avoid them in the future. If it’s from family, friends, or coworkers I will take their comments into consideration in the future but I won’t let that take away from my enjoyment of the scent in my own home.

I gain confidence from my own nose’s enjoyment of a scent. How did you build your confidence back up for Bois des Iles? And by the way, judging from the comments I would confidently say that person is an outlier, and we would completely enjoy it if we met somebody wearing Bois des Iles!

That’s Sugar Skull the Deaf-Defying Dog of Destiny! She’s my deaf rescue pittie and a (now retired) therapy dog. She has Firm Opinions on my perfume–some of them make her try to lick my wrist, while others make her give me the “You have got to be kidding” look.

I love dogs like that that show that the whole breed isn’t bad. Every dog is different. She’s very happy looking. I used to think it would be difficult to train a deaf dog but I bet they respond well to visual signals. My puppy seems to not hear me half the time. Lol. She’s just ignoring me though.

Habanita! I’ve only worn this before in winter but as my winter choices were typical summer frags, this summer I’m really enjoying how rich scents just bloom in the heat. Not in blazing sun of course. This is a very sexy summer night scent.

I haven’t had much time over the last week so haven’t gotten around to thanking everyone for their birthday wishes! It was lovely to wake up to 🙂 (and lovestosmellgood jr shares my bday! Yay!)

Am keeping steady with Chanel Eau Premiere-

I agree, they use a chemical that is awfully acrid and feels like it’s burning my nose. Like rubbing alcohol. But, from reviews and comments I’m sure they have a few gems – just not sure I would ever pay that much for a printed bottle with juice that doesn’t feel that special. Perhaps if I got a custom blend and bottle? Still think I would rather splurge on a beautiful Serge Lutens bell jar or Guerlain bee bottle.

Monday again. Ugh. So hard to get motivated…guess that’s what the deadlines are for 🙁

SOTD for me is Hiram Green’s Voyage which helps considerably with it being Monday.

I wore PHI yesterday and my husband complained non-stop how awful I smelled. I do wonder how scents smell on me by others. I had a roommate years and years ago who wore a scent that I thought was really nasty on her. She loved it and sprayed with abandon, but I wonder if it was just me or many felt the way I did, which makes me wonder about how my scents come off to others.
Too much thinking for a Monday!

My friend wears Alien and I love how she smells. I was surprised because I disliked it on me. I tried it again- still a near scrubber. Also, she and I are very different in general. Maybe the expectations others have of how we should smell can differ from our own, in addition to the body chemistry issue?

It’s a good point. How much does personality play in the fragrance we wear? If someone knows you as being from upbeat and glass-half full and you wear a very dark scent maybe that turns off someone just because it doesn’t fit.

Found my sample of vintage Parfum Sacree, so I sprayed liberally from my bottle of more current PS, and put dabs of the vintage on my wrists. 4 hours later, floating along on a cloud of sweetly incensey goodness.

In our team meeting this morning, we heard that one of the key people in our development group is leaving with 2 weeks notice 8 weeks before a primary build date is due. This project is floundering, people are fleeing like rats from a sinking ship. I am such a small cog in the wheel, my supervisor tells me “Think of it as job security….” Ugh.

I’m wearing Femme. Got a craving for that spicy, rich plum.

I decided to dedicate this weekend to retrying perfumes I reacted badly to the first time. I still can’t quite reconcile Narcisse Noir, though it’s not as horrifying as I previously found it. I wonder if the vintage is very different?

However, I also gave Mon Parfum Cheri Par Camille in EDT another try… and fell head over heels. It’s a gorgeous plump iris with plummy, spicy patchouli underneath. Why didn’t I like this before? It’s so grown up and womanly, all black pumps and red lips. Unfortunately I just dropped a fair amount on some backup vintage Mitsouko, so i can’t run out and buy a bottle. And it looks like the EDT is discontinued? WOE.

What concentration is the Narcisse Noir? I have some parfum (which was a blind buy several years ago because of the stunning bottle and it’s history) which for years I referred to as my Miss Havisham perfume. Smelled like decay. But it fascinated me, and though it’s still most definitely my Miss Havisham perfume, now it’s something I love about it. If I had participated in the Noir challenge it definitely would’ve been that.

After my post on Friday about Norma Desmond’s tuberose perfume (Sunset Boulevard) I tried to find if there was a specific perfume that was being referenced and one source said Narcisse Noir. Those past-their-prime heroines might smell like decay.

Yes, I think that’s what she says is Narcisse Noir. I also read somewhere that the reference for her character WAS Miss Havisham, so the association is definitely all tied up in decaying beauty. It also smells like what my grandmother’s linen closet used to smell like, and she kept linen from at least the 50’s. All manner of disintegration!
It’s not one I’d wear to the pub but it intrigues me enough to wear it at home.

It’s the parfum, ordered within the last year from Surrender to Chance I believe. I agree the bottle is the best; it looks so mysterious. The NST review describes NN thusly:

“Narcisse Noir starts very heady (even in the Eau de Toilette), with sweet citrus and orange blossom. The orange blossom is joined shortly by the narcissus, but maintains its prominence through the dry down. Once the top notes fade, it is deep, rich, and very elegant, but no longer particularly heady or overly sweet. ”

But I get very little headiness or sweetness! Just a high pitched soap, the kind that burns your nose – not sweet at all, over a weird inky-oily darkness that reminds me of gasoline.

I’m wearing Jo Malone Blue Agava & Cacao, lightly applied. I’ve been battling a bronchial/sinus/allergy thing since late Friday. I lost my voice on Saturday, and now I’m waiting for the doctor’s office to call me back, to see if I should come in.

You know, I am always surprised when I wear a particular scent that I like, or even love, and suddenly I find I can’t stand it on that particular day. On the other hand I enjoy the heck out of the times that I wear an OK scent, and find that it really smells great to me on that day. Today I am wearing Desert Rose, which I have always liked a lot, it is one of my favorite roses. Suddenly, it smells even better than I remember and I’m loving it.

Wearing Ostara for the second time today w/ some unscented lotion for staying power.

I have to say the Penhaligon packaging is lovely except their caps. First I could barely get the the cap off…then the metal band within the plastic cap shifted and now the cap is loose. The cap is plastic and looks quite cheap compared to the box and bottle.

I seem to remember the days when perfume caps, not just bottles, were made of glass. Now it seems almost all caps are plastic. 🙁

My kingdom for some glass caps!!! Trying to think what brands nowadays still have glass caps if any…

Wearing JHAG’s Vengeance Extreme on one elbow and Atelier Cologne’s Rose Anonyme on the other, trying to do a comparison. They went on pretty much identically. The Rose Anonyme is a bit sweeter, and seems a bit stronger on me. But otherwise, they’re the same perfume. Of course, YMMV.

Wasn’t the weekend post brilliant? What a fantastic perfume resource. I’ve written down all the notes and favourite perfume in my best ‘take with me everywhere’ notebook. I feel like a wider world has opened up: Rice notes, rosewood, hyraceum ( I thought that was an invasive weed so need to check that out ), datura (big bush of this down the road), and Iris of course ( thanks Robin). Seems such a pity that almost none of the named favourites were mainstream ( a few Guerlain, Prada and Chanels but not many). It’s a pity only in that I can’t test many of the favourites just yet.
Great walk in steaming drizzle yesterday. Every scent was magnified but the two standouts were the avenue of flowering linden trees ( Roget and Gallet linden soaps were a favourite once ) and the knock out punch of a grove of giant eucalyptus trees ( that detoxed my nasal passages). Wearing Eau Premiere and waiting for the sun to rise as the grey outdoors lightens.

Grew up in Berkeley Ca where there are thousands of eucalyptus trees transplanted from Australia in the early 1800s. Love the eucalyptus scent in the air on a hot day. It is the smell of summer for me.

And the radiata pines I walk through came from California originally, introduced here in the 1850s! Several other species were brought over by miners during the gold rush.

You are kidding me? Really? I LOVE that. We exchanged gorgeous trees. I had no idea. I have so often thought about the seeds of those early Eucalyptus trees tucked in pockets and purses of hopeful loggers or Gold Rush dreamers coming from Australia… but I never knew that our beautiful Monterey Pines had been brought back to Australia, probably for logging as well.

It’s a very interesting history. I’m in New Zealand and eucalyptus first arrived here from Australia (Tasmania) in the 1840s.
            http://friendswbg.org.nz/newPINUSRADIATA.html
P.Rads (as we call them) a bit later. I’ll give them your regards when I go for my walk later. The toadstools and boletes are just appearing.

So, from what I can tell, the Eucalyptus came to CA about the same time it was brought to NZ. Some environmentalists feel it is an invasive species and are working to reduce their number. Where I live, we get hot Santa Ana winds and the oily trees were blamed for throwing added fuel on the great Oakland Hills fire in 1991 in which 25 people were killed and thousands of homes were destroyed. The trees are really magnificent, and along with the Bay trees, Redwoods and Monterey Pines give this area its heavenly scent.

Sadly it’s pouring rain today, and colder. Perthgirl would know more about this than me but on very hot days you get a blue (perfume) haze rising up off eucalyptus (hence the Blue Mountains near Sydney) . One of my best scent memories are related to a stay in the Blue Mountains.

In Marni from a sample I bought on eBay…. No need to rush out and buy an FB but I would definitely wear this if I owned it. Draw back is that the dry down is very light on my skin, and I want to keep reapplying it….thematically it reminds me of some of the Hermessences.

          25 January 2016 at 2:30 pm

I’ll be glad to hear Eleebelle’s take too, so just for another data point (as someone who owns both), I find the Marni Rose crisper and greener–I’d say “fresher” but I worry it’ll sound boring which it’s not!–than the original. Ironically, I find the original Marni to be rosier than Marni Rose. Both rose scents for sure, just the original feels more “red rose” to me and Marni Rose feels closer to a green-colored scent if that makes sense. If you’ve smelled both the L’Ombre EDT (original) and EDP, I’d say L’Ombre EDP is closer to first Marni, L’Ombre EDT closer to Marni Rose. Not that they are the same at all, just for frame of reference…

Both Marnis are quite lightweight altho sometimes I feel like the original has some nuttiness to it which warms it up a bit–but still certainly not heavy.

          Hope that helps!

Hah. CH. So interesting. So I find (I love doing comparisons when I can actually sniff the two as the same time!) the Marni Rose, more rosy than the original. On me, the original has a pink pepper thing and even maybe citrus pulp at the start that drys down to a sheer rose spice; while the Marni Rose has a rose/cosmetics violet scent tendency on me (in a good way), but also sheer. Neither of the scents are powerhouses, but I find both very pretty. While the original Marni, for me, evokes Hermessences… the Marni Rose evokes Prada Infusion d’Iris in its texture–not its scent–if that makes any sense (scents 😉 )!

          • Eleebelle says:
            25 January 2016 at 2:51 pm

I TOTALLY agree that Marni is rosier and Marni Rose is greener. Marni Rose makes me think of a damp spring day, which is honestly a lovely idea right about now

          • C.H. says:
            25 January 2016 at 5:15 pm

Oh Oakland Fresca you know what, I totally see you Id’I references and I would say another good comparison would be, Marni Rose is like Id’I as you say, while original Marni is more like Id’I Absolue! The original Id’I being sheerer and crisper, the Absolue being more rounded (but still by no means a heavy scent.)

Meanwhile Eleebelle, I am SO with you, Marni Rose smells exactly like spring. You mentioning that makes me want to wear it with Black March!

        • Eleebelle says:
          25 January 2016 at 2:47 pm

I have a little bit of a hard time with Marni Rose. I almost like it, but there’s a green note in there that I’m not crazy about (mint?). Personally, I think the original is smoother, more versatile and feels a little more “grown up,” though less feminine. It’s just a matter of preference, though. I can definitely see what’s likable about Marni Rose, too.

Thank you, all. Now I want to smell both! 🙂 I love green-tinged roses and cosmetic roses, and sheer red rose with spice and nuttiness sounds delightful. I have worn L’Ombre in both EDT and EDP so I get the reference. (I feel like my newbie training wheels are starting to come off – I’ve smelled a lot in the past year!)

          • C.H. says:
            25 January 2016 at 5:16 pm

Good day to NST everywhere. Yesterday at work started well and ended perfectly horribly, to the point that I’m so upse and angry that I can hardly bring myself to go in! But I must and will, of course, though it’s been many a long year since the very idea of going to work has made me cry hot tears. I hate injustice! So, where is 19 when I need her? After Sunday’s performance, she’s relegated to the back of my Chanel shelf with a huge question mark over her head, that’s where! What to do now for a warrior woman scent, what to do, what to do? I think I might wear Femme, lots of it, and a short black dress all covered in scarlet flowers (I’m a rather too old, perhaps, but too bad!) and to hell with the consequences! Step aside, world: I’m coming through!

Very lucky for power that’s for sure! I think partly the issue is that our internet here is usually steadfast so I was pretty ill-equipped when it went out. At my parents’ place out west, it goes down constantly and so you really always go prepared with hard copies of necessary materials for work, diversions that don’t depend on the internet, etc. Did not think to do that here unfortunately!

In Noir Epices today. Oddly it didn’t feel right, just sort of scratchy. Might transfer to Samsara or Fleur de Cassie when I get home. Hope all people affected by snow are warm and safe x

Haven’t had time this morning to read what everyone is wearing, I’ll have to catch up later. Meanwhile, unusually humid here, so I’m going for Chamade.

Went to the dental school again. Instead of doing what I thought they were going to do (tooth extraction, root canal, cavity filling), they did impressions of my teeth. They explained why but it still sucked. Wore Iris Silver Mist to it. I have come to the conclusion that anything iris dominant at the dentist’s office works really well.

Weather on the west coast is beautiful today – sunny and warm! To celebrate the oncoming spring I am in Chanel Coco. Hope everybody else is staying warm and getting enough Vitamin D.

Sunny and warm here, too (left coast.) I’m considering going for a walk outdoors instead of on the treadmill…

I’ve got a rotten cold, but haven’t lost my sense of smell yet. Just discovered how wonderful citrus and orange blossom perfumes are at these times!- yesterday, while feeling pretty sorry for myself in bed, my husband brought up a little packet the postman had just delivered, a travel spray of Seville A L’Aube, my goodness did it cheer me up!, such an uplifting one, and cosy too.
Today wearing Shalimar vintage edp, which is also pretty good with a cold.

Woke up to sunny warm(ish) temps with a trace of misty fog in the air. Chanel 22 seemed perfect but it turns out not to be quite what I want to smell like. Which is fine since I’m still in pajamas…

SOTD is Gucci Eau de Parfum (the brown juice from 2002 or so). Very comfy, yet elegant.

I’m in Hermes Iris Ukiyoe today. I can never go wrong with this one.

Friday should be fun! I have some 1960’s-era EDT from my aunt that I haven’t worn all winter, so it’ll be the perfect excuse to pull it out.

Also, randomly, does anyone else have this issue – my family knows I love perfume, but always gets me *empty* perfume bottles, vintage or otherwise… they’re pretty, but we all know the juice inside is the important part!

Really? That’s very odd. I would not appreciate an empty bottle!

Hmmmm. Are they formerly full but now empty, or decorative decanters? I’ve gotten a few of those and some are very pretty but I hope it’s not some sort of weird hint from them. Or maybe they’re not confident in knowing your taste to get you actual perfume?
Reminds me of my mother-in-law who likes to buy me pig-themed gifts because I once hunted down from several Home Goods stores a rustic wooden pig I’d seen and wanted. I don’t have the heart to tell her I’m not really into pig paraphernalia-it was just that ONE.

Haha, I love the story about the pigs! But am sorry it’s now a tradition… 🙁 My sister actually collected pig paraphernalia in high school, so we had a lot of pigs around our house at one time, too! Though I assume you don’t keep all of them. 🙂

My father-in-law gave me a Vaseline glass perfume bottle for Christmas this year… slightly radioactive and glows under a black light. Thank you?? And my sister gave me some vintage empty bottles, the best being a Mitsouko bottle c. 1940-1950 with some syrupy something inside, but I don’t think I’ll be keeping them… the syrup looks adulterated… and I don’t own a blacklight…

The pigs made me smile, but the radioactive bottle made me laugh. 😀 I’m sorry they haven’t figured out you want more than the bottle. Perhaps you can start a subliminal message campaign telling them to buy full bottles?

Also, the syrup at the bottom of the Mitsouko could be perfume that has had most of its liquid evaporated out. You can potentially salvage it by putting in Everclear, but you’ll want to do research before you try it. And try it on paper before putting it on your skin.

Good call about trying it on paper first!
That brings me to a confession… until I received the bottle, in my head it was spelled Mitsouku, and pronounced that way too – mitt-so-koo.

            Woe is me.

Lol!!! Hope those gifts don’t become a tradition either, although some people collect empty vintage bottles. You can always sell them on EBay. And I’m trying to picture what the heck that Vaseline perfume bottle is all about. Ask him for a black light next Christmas 🙂

    SOTD = Cuir Beluga

Have I ever mentioned I love this? I did some work work yesterday (besides the shoveling which is labor work) and today, I decided not to chance it with the commute so working from home. I still have quite a few more hours to go with an implementation.. I am keeping my fingers, toes and eyes crossed!

I know, how traumatizing for them, right? When our dog gets back from one of those trips we spoil her rotten. Hey, buying all those new treats and toys is how we cope with the trauma of not having our pets to cuddle with, okay? 😉
