At right, the Fresh Couture phone case, a more reasonable $95, but already sold out. All sold at Moschino. (The actual Eau de Toilette is rumored to follow, or else it’s all an elaborate joke, who knows…)
Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom ~ fragrance review
Jo Malone recently launched Mimosa & Cardamom, a new fragrance for women. It was developed by perfumer Marie Salamagne and its notes include honey, mimosa, heliotrope, rose, cardamom, sandalwood and tonka bean. Its tagline is “A new bohemia awaits.”
This list of notes made my mouth water, so to speak — lots of my favorites in there! And the visuals for Mimosa & Cardamom are fantastic, with that wavy-haired brunette model in Eastern-inspired wear, looking like some kind of contemporary Matisse odalisque as she lounges amongst decorative porcelain and big bunches of mimosa blooms. So, how is the fragrance? Well, it does feel like a Jo Malone, which could be either praise or a warning, depending on your point of view…
The perfect petals
It needed to have the perfect petals; not too thick and leathery, yet not tissue-thin. The scent had to be powerful enough to be steam distilled. The plants must be bred under the natural constraints of the field, and then must make it through the next winter as well as be regrown from seed to test for staying power. It takes five years to know if the flower will produce enough oil and resist disease and pests. Kurkdjian and Ducher, whose main tool is a slender sable-tipped paintbrush to spread the pollen of one plant onto the stamen of another, have spent dozens of near-dawn mornings sniffing madly, eyes shut beatifically.
