Thursday scent of the day 12/24

Posted by Robin on 24 December 2015 179 Comments

Foam garland

Happy Christmas Eve to all who celebrate! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm barely awake, but I'll eventually be in Fendi Theorema, of course.

Reminder: this coming Friday we will not have a community project. But on Monday 12/28, we'll do a special Monday project...we'll be posting our annual Best of 2015 list, so wear one of your own Best of 2015 fragrances.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the foam garland in red, green and gold is from Joss & Main, but appears to be sold out at the moment.

I’m in Mitsy now, but will probably switch to Fille en Aiguilles for the family Christmas gathering this evening.

Was going to be your scent twin, but it just feels too weird, when it’s 54 degrees out there and sunny. So I put on some Parfumerie Generale Djhenne. I will try to be more on-message tomorrow.

Hello, NST everywhere, and merry Christmas if you observe. All good things to everyone for any reason. So, it’s Christmas morning here –early– and all is not well chez Waterdragon. My poor dear one is horribly ill. I won’t trouble you with the gruesome details, but I suspect little eating and much sleeping will be done in this house today. I’m tuning out until he is well again, so I’ll take this couple of minutes to wish you a most wonderfully scented holiday season. Be well and happy.

Merry Christmas to you both though all the same 🙂

Ugh! I hope you are able to enjoy the forced quiet of the day alright! My Mr. Spicebomb has been sick with a cold nearly 2 weeks now, and we keep say, “Surely, it will be gone by Christmas!” No luck as of last night. In any case, I wish both our fellas a speedy recovery!

It’s just after 10pm here and Im about to crash after an oh-so-busy day. I miss the Christmas of my childhood when there was only excitement and anticipation and no sign of the list checking and preparation to come! It was a fun day though and soon it will be Christmas!! 🙂
I wore a few things today: California Rêverie for errands, post-shower TF Jasmin Rouge, then sampled some of those not-so-nice expensive L’artisans (skin-on-skin and deleria i think. Forgettable), and now I’m in vintage Caron Muguet de bonheur because I noticed my little decant was evaporating. Best choice of the day as this is just beautiful! Rich and creamy lily of the valley. What a pity it no longer smells this way.
I hope you all have a fantastic, stress-free Christmas eve whatever your plans are!!

Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge – excellent choice. I totally agree with you on the L’artisan Skin-On-Skin. (This is the one that smelled like cat urine on me – definitely was a scrubber). I liked Deleeria enough, but fell in love with Amour Nocturne.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Sigh. Family is usually a good thing in my life but the past 18 hours have been kind of miserable. Was greeted last night by family who really, REALLY wanted to get into a completely unnecessary political argument with me, no matter how much I demurred and tried to get out of it. And then, of course, fury because I didn’t want to fight. It ended in tears (mine) and I’m ready to give up on Christmas altogether.

Wearing Fate Woman this morning to get me through. In the car now on the way to a potluck breakfast we’re throwing, though of course my mother is incapable of getting to anything on time and has delayed us, so I’m worried our guests may arrive without us to greet them…

    Amouage give me strength.

Hope everyone’s day is a good one.

Omigosh. Big hugs! Well… hope the visit improves. Or at least is over quickly. I sympathize… we no longer fly cross-country to visit relatives for the holidays after the last fiasco, in which my brother barred my mother and me from his house on Christmas Day since we had had the nerve to visit his ex-wife. You know, the mother of my niece. Who had just had surgery for a brain tumor. [Some member of my family are full-on cuckoo.] We had Christmas dinner at Legal Seafoods, which I must say, was excellent 🙂

We’re off to enjoy Xmas Eve with friends, who are much more fun! It will be a madhouse, tons of people crowded into a tiny condo, much food and wine will be consumed.

Hope everyone finds joy this holiday season!

Nice picture, Robin! Thanks to a generous friend’s decant, I’m wearing Amouage Opus IX, something I’d never expected to like. Unlike other Amouage perfumes it’s light and airy! It’s non linear, featuring a carefully orchestrated progression over time. The camelia accord is lovely, especially in the honeyed dry down. If you don’t normally like jasmine, which is featured here, give this one a try. Ditto if you have trouble with the potency of Amouage perfumes.

Best wishes for this holiday season!

Hi everyone, best wishes for a relaxing day. My SOTD is Coromandel and my husband, who never wears perfume, requested a dab as well. It smells great on him – the only other thing he wears is a dab of my beloved Shalimar extrait once in a blue moon which he also wears well. He’s a big strapping guy but there’s a little streak of the dandy in there, too.

Thank you for making this comment about your hubby wearing some of your fragrances. I mentioned a couple of days ago that I bought a Tom Ford fragrance for my brother for Xmas, and realized it was the women’s version (Noir Femme). Your post is just another affirmation for me that its okay for a man to wear a scent that is “labeled” for a woman.

I did not plan ahead so have no idea what I’ll wear today. It’ll be a big day of cooking with family in town! I’ve really been enjoying RougeBunnyRouge Lilt the past two days, so if I can’t decide that will be my fallback, though it’s rather unseasonable… still, the fig-peach-dry cocoa combination is genius.

Youth Dew for me today. For the first time in thirty years I’m staying home for Christmas. Usually, I would be making a four hour drive to Austin, but this year, because of a death in our family, and because her grandkids are at their other grandmother’s in El Paso, my sister decided she was not going to host Christmas. So I get to stay home with my cats.

Merry Christmas Eve! Wearing Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamon, per the teenager’s pick!

It’s gonna be a different kind of holiday today for me….Last night my 100 lb Labrador decided to play in the mud. Roll in it, dig in it, and cover himself in LAYERS of red Georgia mud. THEN….he got loose in the house (pulled away from one of the kids) and decided to run and shake off in my entire house. It is a TERRIBLE mess. I’ll be cleaning all day today, mopping and wiping walls and reminding myself that I LOVE my Chewy!!! 🙂 Have already been out in the rain to buy more floor cleaner, and we had to call a carpet service to clean the carpets on Monday. But HEY!!! I’m off work, the family is together, and life goes on! 🙂

Have a FABULOUS day, everyone!! I refuse to not have a good day, so I’m gonna turn on some music and mop away….smelling like Jo Malone!

I had a Rottweiler named Chewy (named because he chewed EVERYTHING up – shoes, furniture, etc….) that loved to do similar things. Thing, when you would scream at him, he would come up to you, rub against your leg, and give you those big, cute doggie sad eyes that made you feel like you were the guilty one. What do you do? You have the right attitude. Merry Christmas to you, your family, and Chewy 🙂 .

Good Morning, and Merry Christmas Eve!
No SOTD, yet, and I’m hoping to find inspiration here for what to wear this afternoon/evening. This morning will be spent doing Christmas Day preparations and going to the gym (it will be closed tomorrow, so must fit it in today!).

I need (really NEED!) to bake a French Silk Pie for dessert for tomorrow night (honestly, who doesn’t need French Silk Pie?!). There’s plenty of cleaning and arranging to do, too. And then about 2pm, Christmas with the Spicebomb family begins, so off we go to the countryside to celebrate with his family.

I enjoy the bustle, though, to be honest. Much rather be cleaning and baking than shopping or driving. So, perhaps a pensive scent for this morning, something to savor? Post workout and shower, I can be more appropriately festive. (Must give it more thought. 🙂 )

Post shower, but still early enough, I have selected some vintage wood pudding–a healthy dose of Organza Indecence (from the old pillar bottle). It would play well with others, should I decide to switch to something with more oomph for the evening’s festivities!

        Ha!
French Silk Pie is magic food, I swear! You start by making a whipped egg custard in a bain-marie on the stove top. The eggs become this luscious, silky, fluffy magical stuff! Then you stir in melted chocolate and stiffly-whipped cream. Place in a prebaked pie shell and refrigerate for a few hours (or better yet, overnight, hence the making it today). Serve with fresh whipped cream on top and maybe a few shavings of bittersweet chocolate. Amazing. Makes me want to take a French cooking class just so I can understand the magic of the eggs better. (Which, I acknowledge, is a little nerdy even for me. 🙂 )

Thanks to El Niño, we are having an exceptionally warm, soggy Christmas eve in the DC area. Can’t motivate myself to get out the Christmas tree, but I did put one of the adorable Cartier holiday panther cubs on my screen. 🙂 I’d be wearing Caron Nuit de Noel on the 24th, but Hermes Cuir d’Ange seems like a better fit this year.

Wishing everyone all the best for the holidays and/or a great weekend!

SOTM is Jour d’Hermes, inspired by Robin’s post yesterday. We had people over for dinner last night (one of whom just got back from a trip to Kenya) and I must have had a teensy bit more wine than intended (argh) … but I’m off work today and snuggled in my favorite chair, sipping coffee with my feet wrapped up in a Masai blanket our friend brought back for us. Eventually I have to haul myself out of said chair and address Christmas cards (yes, I know), which at this point I’m thinking of as New Year’s cards. When did life get so busy?

Anyway, happy ChrismaHanuKwanzikah, everyone – travel safe, and try to have patience with whichever relative(s) are naughty/annoying/infuriating/embarrassing or all of the above, and I’ll do the same. 🙂

Put on Guet-Apens after some Rose Jam shower gel and am absolutely loving both in the tropical heat. Wow, will I ever be heartbroken when I run out of Guet-Apens.

I’ve been enjoying everyone’s SOTD from a far, but had a few extra minutes today and wanted to join in. It’s been a pretty wonderful vacation so far, including very few work emails (yes, I’m still keeping an eye on my work email), not-too-many mosquito bites, and, after seven happy years, a proposal (yay!). Basically, I’m overwhelmed with happiness at the moment and hope everyone has a loving, peaceful holiday season full of health and joy!

Merry Christmas Eve and Happy Holidays Everyone! I tried to do EVERYTHING that I needed to do Monday – Wednesday so I could sit back and watch on television all the last minute shoppers bravely and frantically do their thing. I dabbled in my sample stash last night (which by the way, I organized them into 3 categories and containers) and selected Scarlet Larkspur by Ineke. Interestingly enough, I like it. Its different and goes through several phases as it dries down. The initial spray of it is what I enjoyed most. It is really unique and a pleasant change for me. Hope everyone has a great day!

LOL! Don’t judge when I say this (I’m a little weird):

1st container: samples of perfumes that I already own but was given to me by SA and also samples of perfumes that I would love to own full bottles of ( ex: Jo Malone, Byredo, Hermes, Chanel, Judith Leiber, Tom Ford, Estee Lauder, Jo Loves) – these are the samples mostly used because I am familiar with them

2nd container: samples of mostly mainstream fragrances that can be purchased everywhere that have accumulated over the years (i.e. Ulta, Sephora, Macy’s, Dillards, etc…) I occasionally will dabble in these samples – i.e. when I am just hanging around in the house, when I go to bed
(ex: Versace, Elie Saab, Prada, Gucci, Fresh Life) – I end up giving a lot of these away to friends and family because I have hundreds of these

3rd container: these are samples of perfumes that I know little about and want to learn more about – Indie perfumers, scents that I may come across on Surrender to Chance or Lucky Scent that peak my interest, and samples that I get from my Olfactif subscription and fragrances that I read about on NST (ex: Imaginary Authors, Neela, Vermeire, Juliette Has A Gun, DSH Perfumes, 4160 Tuesdays, Amouage, Dame Perfumery, Ineke)
I have the most fun with these because it introduces me to new and unique scents

Interesting! And of course, no judgment whatsoever. 🙂 I have a couple of similar categories, such as samples that I own full bottles of, and samples of mainstream fragrances that are easy to come by. And I also tend to wear the more mainstream ones at bedtime … Mostly because they’re usually less interesting than others, and I don’t want to sleep through any wonderful development! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

I’m enjoying Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s gorgeous holiday scent for 2015, Noel Enchante. It’s a departure from her other, delightful holiday offerings of the past, in that it is not a spicy Oriental or pine/fir scent, but instead is a modern tuberose chypre with moderate sillage and excellent longevity. My best new discovery since Eric a Buterbaugh’s Regal Tuberose…just stunning and absolutely full bottle worthy.

    Merry Christmas to all!

What was supposed to arrive last Thursday didn’t get here until this past Monday. Next time, I will just find the time to go up there.

Are you expecting Noel Enchante in your package? If so, I think you will love it! Chypre has been the most difficult ‘genre’ for me, but it’s fragrances like this one that are helping me understand and even begin to enjoy some of them.

Yes, Noel Enchante is included. I used to order doubles of the dabber samples and then empty them into my own atomizers. Perhaps I just never noticed it but most of the perfumes are now available as 3 mL atomizer samples and I ended up ordering a bunch of those.

Holiday greetings, everyone! I love reading all your comments, reveling in the joy of those who are having a great day, and agonizing along with those of you who are having a tougher time right now.

My household normally celebrates quite ecumenically at this time of year, but this year 2 family members are down with illness, I am at work today (ugh), I think we might be skipping the X-mas Eve party we were going to go to, and even the Vodka/latkes/babka/kafka party planned for tomorrow might have to be missed. We will still be doing Christmas dinner and presents.

Since it is so unseasonably warm, I’m in Lush’s The Smell of Weather Turning. Hoarding this sample, but today really called for it.

6.30 on Christmas morning and I’m the only one awake. I’m sleeping in the lounge ( great view of the stars at night ) by the Christmas tree as my visiting mother has my bed. Nice though it is to have her in the house, she has disrupted by early morning perfume ritual – namely that I get up, and apply perfume first thing before going to kitchen to feed dogs and make coffee. Cutting dog roll and filling the jug always goes better with a dash of scent…it means I can sniff my wrist as I wait for the kettle to boil. Today I will wear Skive again because I love it. And maybe Cristalle as it is so green outside…green hills, blue skies.
So strange that my son is not up at 5am today. I guess that means he is a teenager at last.
Happy scented days everyone. Hope life is good for you all.

    SOTD = Aftelier Bergamoss EDP

This is a perfect green for unseasonably warm weather — 70s and spitty rainy and it is so grey that even Christmas red looks orange. My $1 bag of bows will be handy as that will be the extent of Christmas “wrapping” planned for today. Christmas comes on the same day every year and you would think that we have enough time to plan for a date that is known in advance! Anyway, tonight, I will attend a Candlelight Service and tomorrow, the family is having Christmas breakfast at a diner, followed by gift exchanges at one of my sisters’ place, followed by a movie ( not sure which one yet).

If it stops spitting, I may walk over to Wegmans to do some last minute shopping.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happly Holidays.

I’ve been obsessing over Marni after smelling a scent strip and then acquiring a sample and it has remained my one perfume regret since I never found it again in the stores. However, in the season of holiday giving, I purchased a bottle for myself from eBay and am anxiously awaiting its planned arrival on Saturday. It’s been a couple years since I tried it and I’m hoping I still like it. Meanwhile…I’ve just applied a sample of the gorgeous Portrait of a Lady and I’m wondering if my memory is playing tricks on me…is Marni an uber light version of POAL?? If so, I am even more excited about the imminent arrival of Marni!

Staying in this morning so have no compunction wearing two perfumes at once: Encens Mythique on one hand and Nombril Immense on the other. EM is being rather rude and calling NI a stable hand, and NI is taking deep breaths and rising above it all. I am sure that harmony will eventually prevail.

Maybe not the most glamorous job, but the kitties will be grateful for it. Giving to others is such an incredibly special way to spend the day. I hope get in a few good kitty snuggles while you’re at it!

Scentless so far today. This evening I’ll go to a Christmas service and then to a fondue party with friends. Can’t decide how I want to smell, as the weather isn’t really supporting the season (it’s weird to have windows open in the house this time of year!). Nevertheless, happy holidays, peace and blessings to all!!

What did you end up wearing? Since Bergamoss did not last long (to be fair, I did not douse myself), I ended up spritzing on a tiny bit of SSS Forest Walk right before leaving for the Candlelight Service and it was just the right touch.

Forest Walk is fantabulous! (Bergamoss, too!) Since I was running late, I didn’t search out anything “special”. The first thing my hand came to was Adam Levine for Women (purchased based on AnnieA’s comments about it last year; I wouldn’t have thought to try it otherwise). My Christmas present to myself is Ashoka–duly wrapped and waiting under the tree…

Happy holidays to all my NST companions!

I had to do a bit of a last minute run to the grocery and liquor stores this morning, and wore Eau des Merveilles for comfort, expecting a madhouse. Surprise! No lines at all. My Christmas fairy must have given me a little gift.

If I can suppress my lingering cough long enough, I’ll be going to an orphan’s party tonight, wearing Mohur I think. Otherwise, a hot toddy in front of the fire.

DH is in the kitchen cooking supper, I am on the couch with the dogs reading. Wanted something rosy so I packed PHI Rose de Kandahar. Will spritz on some Nuit de Noel at bedtime. Merry Christmas to all my fragrant friends!

The upside to being injured this year is that I won’t be working–and my only responsibility will be to tote delicious bottles in my backpack to the homes of friends. And smelling of Tea for Two.

I’m wearing vintage 1960’s Shalimar EDC, my mother’s bottle that she never opened. Another lesson taught, use what you love!!
    Merry Christmas Everyone !!! 🙂

Word, have to constantly remind myself to use & enjoy, not merely hoard. I may retrieve my vintage Shalimar parfum for tomorrow. It’s much quieter than the current edp, though it may partly be due to dab vs spray.
      Merry Christmas, Bear & everyone!

Wow!! You smell incredible, the EDC’s what made me understand the devotion to Shalimar. Glad your mom’s bottle will be enjoyed, at long last! Merry Christmas!!

Holy cow, busy week!! Just wanted to pop in and say Merry Christmas to those who celebrate. Hope everyone’s family get togethers are not too dysfunctional. A glass of wine always helps, or at least doesn’t hinder 😉

I will be spending a lazy day at home with my children for Christmas. I just finished wrapping their presents. I hope they like what they are getting. I feel bad because I am not much of a cook, and are family is very small, they don’t get to experience a lot of holiday tradition. I am wishing everyone here a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. All of you are simply wonderful.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone. Starting off early today, helping my mom with some volunteer work before family mayhem begins again.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! I didn’t have time to post yesterday due to Christmas preparations but you all smelled lovely and I enjoyed reading your posts. I wore Nuit de Noel for Christmas Eve from a sample provided by a generous perfumista. I hope everyone has a lovely day regardless of whether you celebrate!
