Almost Friday, folks! What fragrance are you wearing today?
I'm wearing Bruno Fazzolari Lampblack.
Reminder: tomorrow we're doing Best Buy Friday...wear your favorite fragrance purchase of 2015. If you didn't buy anything this year, pick a favorite from a prior year.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing Commes des Garcons edp today, it’s finally cold and I love the spicy clove in CdG. Have a great day everyone!
You smell great!
Is that the original CdG? I love that one, such a distinctive scent.
This cold is still hanging on but at least I feel less tired.
Waking up with a cup of MF french breakfast, in La Fille de Berlin and pairing it with TF love bruise lip color. Though I can’t smell much I am sure the Rose perfume smells good.
I read the Ines (Vogue) article someone posted yesterday, and I agree with everything she said, except her thoughts about the vanilla and gourmet. Which happened to be some of my favorite scents.
Also, wanted to mention yesterday I was in Chelsea market to get some milk from my favorite place. Stopped into anthropology and found I’m Amouage bath products!
I’ll have to check out Anthropolgy! Sales?
Whaaaaaaat? Ok now I’m going there this weekend.
It was so odd to see a Amouage at that store! At least they had a tester of Dia lotion. Yum!
No perfume though just a few bath products. No sales ๐
Yeah – now that I’ve looked at them on their website, I can see that you can get a lot of those for lower prices at the discounters.
Still, how lovely that they’ve added that to their product lineup!
Wow!! I would really like to test the Amouage body products in person. Thanks for the head’s up!
Weird, I just looked on the website and found the body lotion and gels. Anthro kinda needs to do a better job of organizing their inventory though. You choose which one you want by color – even though the colors have zero to do with the actual product. It’s kinda weird. They’d be better letting you choose which one you want by name.
Yes, they’ve always done that in the fragrance section — clearly their shopping format is designed for clothes ๐
Scent twins – I’m in LFdB also. I can confirm that you smell good, and I hope you feel better soon.
Thank you! And you smell fab!
Another scent twin. I paired it with Jo Malone Red Roses bath oil.
Look at it this way: you got that cold out of the way before Christmas. And pre-sleepless newborn care, for that matter. Hope you’re back to normal soon. ๐
Love La Fille de Berlin!
Glad to hear you’re back to perfume wearing. Although LFdB doesn’t work on me, I enjoy it on others. You smell great!
Love the smell, the tea, and now that I’ve googled it, the lip color. Lovestosmellgood on fleek! ๐ Hope you feel better as soon as possible.
Han! Can’t wait to see you again after all these years ๐
SOTD Atelier Blanche Immortelle.
Happy Almost Friday Day!
And will you see him tonight, or wait til the madness dies down?
He will have to wait a bit- hoping for Sunday afternoon and keeping my fingers crossed everyone is happy, excited, polite, and well behaved. I am expecting a lot ๐
Good luck with that!
Oh, I got my tickets and a baby sitter for tomorrow night! I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are way ahead of me! Hope you have a fabulous time ๐
Han Solo….you sexy thing you!! Still looking mighty fine, you scallywag!!!!!!
Back in Modern Musc Le Rouge……smelling posh for my 7pm meeting with Captain Solo! (and the hubby. And our double date buddies. But whatever!) ๐
May the Force be with all of you today!!!!! ๐
Enjoy the evening!
Robin, you’re indie & edgy this morning…am rather more mainstream in Eau Premiere, but loving it. Need some calming touchstones this week!
We both smell great, and calm is good! I am so behind, and trying very hard not to worrry about it. What gets done, gets done, what doesn’t, doesn’t….
You smell lovely! It took exactly two wearings for me to fall in love with EP.
Ditto on that: I’m wearing my No 5 vintage parfum today b/c it makes me feel comforted and all together. I need it!
Eau Premiere is lovely but lasts only a couple hours on me, while I can smell the regular EDT all day. I wonder if anyone else has that problem?
Heure Exquise, on an exceptionally soft and balmy December day.
You smell very lovely!
austenfan, have you ever smelled Puredistance White? To me, it smells similar to Heure Exquise. The only shared notes are rose and sandalwood and to some extent, tonka bean and vanilla has similarities.
Ooh- sounds interesting!
Ooh a cheaper alternative to White would be lovely.
No I haven’t. I find the Puredistance fragrances too expensive. I once won a sample set on Bois de Jasmin of 2 Puredistances. M and Antonia. Really enjoyed M but thought the whole thing was overdesigned and erased the house from my memory.
I have tried Rose Irisรฉe by Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger which reminded me of HE as well.
I was just thinking of this one and wondering how it would compare to the JM Orris & Sandalwood. And you do smell lovely.
SOTD: Upper Ten (Lubin)
Oooh, do give us a review!
I didn’t quite “get” Lampblack the first time I tried it, but the second time (after applying more liberally) I fell hard for it. I’m in Incense Flash today and wondering how my Tauerville samples would smell layered (something I’m usually not brave enough to do).
The combination of Rose and Vanilla Flash is wonderful, IMHO. I haven’t smelled the Incense or Amber ones yet, but they probably would layer well too.
I’m trying the Rose and Incense now, and it’s lovely. Maybe I’ll just put ALL of them on. *wicked laughter*
Lampblack smells just like CDG Black on me. Need to try that layering combo with my Tauervilles!
I’m still very excited to try Lampblack and really the whole rest of that line.
I’m in Tubereuse Criminelle today. I almost wore it last night but I went with something a bit more public friendly.
And thank you all again for the birthday wishes yesterday. You are all so sweet!
I wish I would smell someone wearing TC in public. That would be fab!
I’ve had as many nose wrinkles as compliments. Very polarizing I guess.
SOTD FM Le Parfum de Terese. Such an odd duck, this one, but kind of addictive. I haven’t seen any of the newer Star Wars films, but looks like we’ll try to see it this weekend if it isn’t sold out. My husband is the sci-fi/fantasy geek and sometimes I have to let him have his way(he does a lot of the cooking) ๐
Sounds like a good balance! Enjoy the film with your hubby
Thank! Hope you feel better soon.
Twins! Definitely addictive. I’m on my second decant and will soon need more.
๐ The travel size is a nice deal.
Don’t even bother seeing the “prequel” newer Star Wars movies they did before. Bleh – too much CGI, not enough humanity.
Ditto, ditto, ditto. Good actors were rendered charmless through poor direction.
Exactly.
I wasn’t planning to bother. I’m not particularly drawn to the genre-maybe with the exception of Star Trek. But enjoy your outing! We’ll all have to compare notes afterwards:-)
I’ve only sniffed this one on a card and moved on. Knowing now that it’s an “odd duck,”
perhaps it deserves a more thorough testing from me.
I don’t find it odd… I find it fabulous!
It’s odd in a unique, good way. I haven’t smelled much else like it before.
I tend to read “odd” as a good thing. ๐
I’m surprisingly awake and chipper today after eating too many sweets and having one too many glasses of wine (is there such a thing though, really?) at the hub’s company xmas party last night.
Slouchy and casual today and in Samsara because it’s the best comfy mode scent I have.
You smell great!
๐
Smelling great on busy days helps.
Can I have some of your chipper? Can you bottle that?
Hahah, if only!
That’s the first one I’m reaching for on my next visit to Bergdorf’s. Gotta see if it’s for me, which I suspect it might be.
It’s very simple and that’s what I like about it.
I love Samsara! I recently got a 90’s splash bottle and I’ve been wearing it most evenings. There is something cozy about it.
So much to do and so little time! SOTD is NV Mohur so that maybe all the cleaning, shopping and more cleaning won’t be so dreary!!
Mohur should definitely help!
Aqua Allegoria Winter Delice, pine sap and gingerbread and wood smoke. It’s so incredible. I can’t believe they didn’t keep that one in their lineup (although it is completely unlike the erst of the Aqua Allegoria series so I guess it doesn’t fit the aesthetic: they should have re-released it as a standalone.)
I’ve never heard of Winter Delice. It sounds delicious although – yes – very out of place as an AA.
Oooooh – your description just caught my attention. Now I’m off to look into this one.
Mohur again, which may also turn out to be my best buy of the year and make a reappearance tomorrow.
Hm, now what scents to bring with me to Puerto Rico next week…
Ok, I’ll say it: I’m so jealous of you on that trip. Always wanted to see Puerto Rico. Have a wonderful time.
Family visits are never quite the same as full vacations, but Puerto Rico’s beautiful, and I definitely recommend it if you ever get the chance to go! A few of the beaches and the bio-luminescent bay are some of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen.
Yay! How are you feeling? Hope you’ve fought off the cold so you can enjoy the trip properly!
Aw, thanks for checking in! I’m definitely better than yesterday, so here’s hoping that all these vitamins keep working their magic
I was going to wear one of the samples I found in my old Birchbox stash, but they’re mostly super sweet teeny bopper stuff, or else more summer than the season requires. The lone seasonally appropriate smelling one is a fragrance and house I’m totally unfamiliar with, Arquiste L’Etrog, but I wasn’t sure about longevity.
All of which is to say that I’m in one of my new favorites, Elixir des Merveilles. It makes me feel like such a badass. Fits my mood and my outfit.
Also, I guess my idea to wear my navy lipstick to Star Wars tonight was a good one because Lupita Nyong’o rocked up to the premiere in London in some. I’m still going to wear mine, and enjoy it.
Sorry for the word explosion all, I had an energy drink this morning, and I’m so excited about Star Wars that I might burst. Or cry. Or both, who knows?
It’s ok, those of us with less energy can live vicariously. ๐
I am excited too!
It’s going to be a good weekend! ๐
I might go see Sisters later this weekend. I do love Fey and Poehler.
I bet you’re wearing the crap out of that lipstick. Have fun!
Thanks! It’s not an easy thing to wear, but it is fun.
Okay, considering blind buying a bottle of AG Ce Soir Ou Jamais off Ebay. I have, or have smelled, many of AG’s older fragrances around 8-10 years ago.
Anyone have any opinions on CSOJ?
Nevermind, I decided to wait. Mostly because it’s EDT and I prefer parfum. If anybody else wants to bite, it’s a full bottle for under $40 and free shipping.
The edp is much better than the edt of CSOJ – just gorgeous. I am glad you are waiting.
Thank you for responding! After looking at some reviews, I’m glad too. It was just so cheap and tempting. I think my restraint will be rewarded. CSOJ definitely sounds like my kind of fragrance though.
I absolutely love Ce Soir EDP. A top 3 for me. But I can’t speak for the EDT.
Lampblack is great. I still have some Bruno Fazzolari samples that I haven’t tried.
SOTD is Ta’if.
Scent twins! I’m having my first Ta’if experience today and I’m totally smitten.
Today, I’m wearing a calming scent, Clarins Eau Ressourรงante. December has been a tough month in class for my 6-year-old and we both need all the ressources we can find to make the best of every day.
Aw, hope things do calm down!
Hi all,
Today I’m wearing Tauer’s L`Air du Desert Marocain. ๐
You smell awesome! I ended up layering some LAdDM with the Chopard Casmir the other day to rough it up a bit and cut the sugar. It was a great combo.
LAdDM often seems a bit too dry for me so layering it with Casmir is a great idea – I’ll go home and try it tonight. (I often sweeten up my LAdDM with SSS Champagne de Bois or LA Traversee du Bosphore (SP?)).
Funny — I always find LAdDM sweeter than I’d like, I think either my nose or my skin amps & sweetens my perception of amber.
LAdDM is a great layering frag for TdB – I do the same! TdB grows more sweet as I wear it and I want to bring it back to earth.
I read a suggestion to layer it with, of all things, Bellodgia. It’s AWESOME! But I have a good, vintage bottle of the Caron, so not sure what to do when that wears out. I need, it needs a good carnation to make this combo work.
That’s a fascinating idea! I have some vintage Bellodgia that I rarely wear, so I’ll give this a try. Thanks!
I need to try this!
I’m going to try that! I like the Casmir btw and just ordered a mini.
Ann,
Layering with Casmir sounds like an excellent idea!
I also wonder what LAdDM would be like with a spritz of a citrus like L’ Artisan’s Mandarine…
So great!
In Costume National today, and enjoying its mellow incense plus other things very much. I applied this as an alternative to Copal Azure, which I love, but which seemed a little strident this morning. This Costume National is a sleeper hit for me! I might have to get a larger decant of this when my sample is gone…
Ok forgive me a dumb question but: which is considered the eponymous CN? Is it the one called Scent?
Scent Intense is the one most people seem to like.
FYI: there are a whole bunch of thes on Groupon Goods right now
I’m wearing Nest Midnight Fleur, which is just too sweet. Just now I am more interested in spicy, aromatic, even citrus, and this thing is just …. sweet.
I uncharacteristically reached for perfume within an hour of getting up – No. 19. A sign of the day to come, perhaps.
Peaceful enjoyment of the holidays to all.
You smell wonderful!
You smell terrific. I may wear No.19 tomorrow – best buy of 2015 from the standpoint that I wore it the most often this year…perhaps an average of 3x a month.
Wearing An Air of Despair, which begs to be layered with rose.
The name sounds like the start of a sad poem..
The Imaginary Authors website said it’s about to be discontinued for anyone who might be interested.
Hmmmm. I’ll try that too. I hadn’t thought of layering that one.
As I mentioned above, I’m in vintage Chanel No 5 parfum. It is perfect for me today. There is something about the holidays that I really love for No 5. This particular vintage bottle I have broadcasts a really excellent sandalwood that is just wonderful today.
Sounds beautiful!
Vintage!? I am jealous
Getting vintage No 5 is really not so hard. I’ve got about 4 or 5 bottles of used vintage No 5 parfum from ebay. If they are used, they are not as spendy. I haven’t looked for a while, but a few years ago you could get about 8 mls++ for about $25 or so. You should try!
perfect holiday choice!
This morning I’m wearing the second of my three Ormonde Jayne samples, Ta’if.
Swooooooooooooooooooon!!!
I’ve never had such an instant and total connection with a perfume before. As soon as it touched my skin, I knew it was something special. By the time I got to work, I sent an email to my husband suggesting a bottle for our upcoming 20-year dating anniversary. (I’d love to associate this beauty with him.)
The rose is very similar to the rose of Mohur, which I love. At first I thought it was too similar to justify a bottle, but as it dried down, I realized that I like it much more than Mohur (shock!). Ta’if has the rose in soft spices and dusty fruits (if that makes sense), while Mohur’s rose becomes almost candied on my skin and therefore does not reach perfection. Ta’if is perfection on me. As long as I can still smell it by day’s end.
Goodness, I’ll stop going on and on now. ๐ Suffice to say that I’m happy.
Awww – yaaaaay! I love those moments of instant love. Hope you get that bottle! You’ve earned it.
Thank you! If my husband doesn’t come through, I’ll buy the bottle my damn self. ๐
YEAH you will.
Sounds exciting!
๐
Ta’if is one of my HG roses!
So many people love this, I think I’m gonna have to try it.
Ooooooh wow. This week.
Earlier this week, five minutes before I was going to tell my boss that I’d be leaving for a new position in three weeks, the love of my life (still the case even though we broke up 12 years ago) sent me an email from Australia (where he now lives) to say he was thinking about me and wanted to know if we could talk.
It has been intense. I have so much to do to prepare for my departure, as I refuse to leave a mess behind me, and so much to do to prepare for my next job, and the various holiday social obligations are inconveniently happening at the same time….
I need some scotch.
But for now, wearing Amouage Fate is a huge, huge help.
Hope you’re all having a good week.
Ah fate, so fitting for your situation.
Sorry you have so much going on at once and the boy too…what’s the saying “if you love something let it go and if comes back to you it’s yours….I think that can apply to your situation. Take care. One foot in front of the other
Thanks honey – that is definitely the approach I’m taking. “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…”
A swiss friend once told me that a Swiss saying ‘Don’t reheat the soup! ‘. Same situation, different advice.
Wow! Maybe he can replace the man on the bus. Anything from him?
Subway guy never texted me again and I’ve got so much going on that there really isn’t time anyway. What mattered to me about that situation is that I did it, and that I can do it again.
Australia man and I are complicated, too much so to explain here, but suffice to say that no, it’s not a good idea.
oh man… I’m SUCH a sucker for old loves. (In theory. I mean, for other people. There isn’t a single one of my old boyfriends I’d want to take up with again, even if I hadn’t been married for 23 years…) I’m sort of addicted to One Who Got Away stories.
With you on the not leaving a mess behind. Hope the new job will be a career step up, or a better working situation, or better pay, or all three.
Re: those stories: I’ve got a doozie. Maybe someday I’ll be able to share it with you.
And yes, the new job is all three!! Though I will be leaving some of my best friends, which is really the hardest part.
And thank you!
Oh wow, that is intense. A lot to think about at once, plus the holidays on top of it all. I’m also leaving my job in a little over three weeks, so I’m with you there.
I hope the Amouage helps (couldn’t hurt!). Oh, and the scotch (mmmm, I miss scotch…).
Oh wow – are you leaving for good, or just for maternity leave? How long have you been there? It’s an unexpectedly intense transition, isn’t it?
Hope that you and scotch will soon be reunited!
Yes, an intense transition, although I’ve been in this job only two years. I’m leaving for good! My husband and I decided to move back to our home state of NC to be near family and I’d like to spend some time at home with the baby. I’m not sure when I’ll be ready to find a new job. I always assumed I’d be the type of person to return to work right after maternity leave, but that’s not how it’s turned out. A nerve-wracking change ten years into a successful legal career, but also exciting.
Best of luck with your new job! It sounds like a great opportunity for you.
Oooh – where in North Carolina? My sister lives in Winston-Salem, and I toy with the idea of moving there when I’m ready for a family and such. But then I’d have to leave New York and leave all these perfume boutiques behind….
It sounds like you’ve made the right choice for you, even though it is nerve-wracking. Nothing wrong with taking some time to enjoy the new little life you’re making!
The Raleigh-Chapel Hill area. We hope to find some acreage in the surrounding countryside. Big change from our Chicago condo! NC is a lovely place to live and raise a family.
I plan to continue to make annual trips to NYC and also visit Chicago for my cultural and perfume needs. And there’s always the Internet! ๐
I’m rooting for you. What gets done gets done. And how exciting about the old flame! I’ll see you next year!
Thanks darlink!
You have a lot on your plate. Look forwards, not back! Sometimes old loves are in the past for a reason. Only proceed if all signs will enhance your life! Good luck on your new job!!
Exactly – it has to be right for me, and who I am now, and I don’t believe it is. Thanks for the encouragement, Ann!
Hmmm, sincerity or a politely veiled booty call? Only you know that answer to that one ๐
I will gladly join you in that scotch. It’s been a weird week here too. Hope Friday is good and that you have a relaxing weekend.
Ha! If he were calling from Australia to New York just for a booty call, I would need to provide him with a map before even broaching the rest of the conversation.
Fate is gorgeous and powerful – I know it will help you get through it all!
SOTD is Tom Ford London, smoky and oudy and leathery and woody and spicy. A fine scent for Darth Vader. In honor of The Event, I’m wearing my R2D2 earrings and Darth Vader necklace, which I bought back in the day when the first Star Wars movie came out. I **so** wanted to be Luke back then. (Never saw any reason, then or now, why being female should get in the way of doing whatever I wanted to!)
I like the way your mind works! I’m wearing my R2-D2 ring and I did a minimalist droid inspired manicure; Artoo is represented on my left, and Threepio on the right.
Perfect comment.
Wearing Kerbside Violet…what a great little perfume. It starts off very simply as violet, both the flower and the stalk ( so has a snatch of Cristalle alongside the familiar violet scent). Because of the whole flower aspect there is a kind of grittiness to the violet, like it is bursting up through a crack in the pavement. After a couple of hours only the soft, sweetness of the Violet remains, but it is candied, almost edible. This might be my best perfume of 2015 and I generally hate Violet scents. It’s only just reached NZ hence my 2015 listing….good things happen to those who wait!
By contrast biggest disappointment: my replacement bottle of Daim Blonde ( bought unsniffed ). Starts by smelling like a sad old orange…the one that has been forgotten in the fruit bowl for months …. A dried up, juiceless, bitter orange that no one wants to eat. And after twenty minutes the perfume practically disappears ….you need a Hoover nose to detect what is actually a lovely fruit, oily good quality furniture oil garnished with black pepper. I’d read that the new Daim blond was different from its pre 2004 predecessor but so sad….no fruity apricot, no sweetness….just poor old rest home orange. Ugh….and I could have bought 4 kerbside Violets for the same price as one Daim Blond.
Yay Friday is here! Honeysuckle is going insane in the garden …life is sweet.
Kerbside Violet is great, isn’t it? Although it never turns sweet on me.
I am dying to try Kerbside Violet but they don’t sell it in the US yet. Knowing that you like it makes me want it even more! The SA in my Lush store said we might get it this spring, but she didn’t really know. She said it smells like the Ultraviolet bubble bar, which I adored (sadly, discontinued). I may break down and order the solid perfume, since the shipping charges for non-liquids are more reasonable.
I have the solid perfume as well as the juice…and the juice is much better. I would only buy the solid for its hand bag convenience, as a top up during the day.
Ah-ha. This is important information. Thank you!
Kanuka, you make me jealous — honeysuckle in the garden! Violet perfume! I think a detour to Lush is in my immediate future.
By the way, thank you for you kind words of supper about that complaint. I saw my Head of School briefly yesterday, and apparently, the cause of the complaint is basically that I breathe. He suggested that I just keep out of her way for a while — usually this would be hard for me, because I tend to confront trouble rather than discreetly avoid it — but in this case, it suits me very well to comply with his wishes. Mind you, anything would suit me very well today: Last Day!
“Kind words of supper”? I hate iPads! “Support”, of course, though you would have guessed that.
Mmm supper : toast and honey. I think it must be supper time now – surely some scientific research shows that eating supper before 11 am aids cell renewal, keeps alzheimers at bay and increases brain function.
I had a friend go through a similar university complaint and the more she tried to show open and willing to undertake mediation through HR the more the complainer tried to block mediation and open discussion…it became clear that the complainer was a serial trouble maker and passive agressive and thrived off drama. And it all started because someone moved a trolley near her door (encroached on her space). Kindergarten stuff.
Hey – I love the #19 Bath Gel. You must treat yourself. It’s so elegant that I combed my hair for the first time in 6 years!
Last day!!!!!!!!
I’ll vouch for the No. 19 bath gel – it is good stuff!
That sounds very positive, waterdragon, since it doesn’t appear that the head of the school thinks you did anything unreasonable. Enjoy your holidays!
Will probably wait until the crowds die down a little before I brave the theater for new Star Wars, but I’m looking forward to it.
Am still waiting for my new dishwasher (it should arrive in the next 3-4 days), 7 weeks after the old one died and Sears’ two attempts to fix it failed. AND the dryer died this morning. (*@A&%**! However, we called the very local, slightly more expensive, great-service appliance store and they’ll bring us a new dryer tomorrow.
Vintage Emeraude today, for comfort.
I’m also waiting a bit on going to see Star Wars. Glad you’re getting a new dishwasher. Mine’s still erratically working… we’ll see how long it’ll hold out. We’re having electrical gremlins lately, half the kitchen lights are out due to a blown transformer (guess what DH is doing this weekend), and the truck’s in the shop after its electronics freaked out in the latest rainstorm. Ho ho ho.
Good luck: this is the year for me when everything has been breaking. I totally sympathize.
Ugh. We have had to replace lots of appliances this fall/winter, it’s such a pain. Good luck.
I’m wearing Opardu (it’s lovely, but could use a bit more oomph, no?) and drinking vinho verde at work. It’s almost Christmas and half past 6 here, so it’s not as bad as it sounds.
I had to look up vinho verde and that sounds amazing.
Annikky-
You get an enabler pin. I received my Chanel samples and decided on Beige for the office. My FB just came today. Now I have that one to go along with my 31 Rue. Thanks for your good advice. I am excited!
Thank you! I’m very glad it worked out for you, it really is a good office scent. In fact, I should wear Beige myself one of these days. I don’t know anyone outside the perfume community who doesn’t like smelling it.
Hello,, hello, hello, and best of good mornings to,you all! It’s the last day! I have five research meetings with students, and then it’s over for this year! Last day, last day, last day! So, I’m wearing a perfume that is bottled joy for me, Rahat Loukoum, and I’m all wrapped around in a cloud of almondy, cherry-syrup happy-sweet goodness. It’s my Best Buy, except for all my other Best Buys. I’ve painted my fingernails deep red, I’m prancing around in my red boots (it’s cold again) and my dear man says I put him in mind of a manic mosquito….it’s all right, you get that sort of thing after 44 years! Last day, everyone. Red boots! Rahat Loukoum! Oh, and while I was writing the last sentence, an email came in cancelling one meeting. Yes! This day gets better and better, and it’s only half past six!
I have 4 more workdays before I can do my waterdragon red boots dance!
Four days? I’ll dance with you! I’ll start now! Honestly, I feel about 30 again…young and light and free! I’m already annoying everyone at work by being hideously cheerful. In their opinion, dancing would be an improvement on my merry yodelling and feeble puns.
Oh waterdragon, you truly are delightful. Merry yodeling, indeed – I’m sure all those eyes rolling nearby are eye-rolling WITH you, not AT you. Hearty congratulations on surviving the past few weeks with humor intact. ๐
They just had an interview on the radio with a Swedish charity who have put out an album of christmas carols sung by goats…that might help your co-workers get into party mode. Baaaa baaa baaaa baaaa
“Itโs my Best Buy, except for all my other Best Buys.” Hahahaha: truer words!
Happy last day of the term!!
I’m wearing Hermes Hiris today. Such cool, calm and collected vibes coming from this scent.
I am “none of the above” today. Going crazy with trying to get caught up with holiday preparations.
I seriously do love this time of the year, but lots to do.
Yes, lots to do. I finally got around to wrapping and mailing my packages this morning. You smell great!
Love Hiris! You smell smashing good ๐
I’m wearing TDC Bergamote today, the most sparkling, bright ginger ale imaginable.
Glad that you are well enough to resume wearing perfume.
Divine Bergamote is great when you are feeling under the weather and just anytime really. Love your comparison with ginger ale.
SOTD = Naomi Goodsir
I will need a FB once my decant is gone!
I2 days and counting – I have a trip to Madrid in my immediate future. I will ring in the New Year there. Any perfume recommendations, perfume boutiques to visit and places to eat? Thanks!
Lucky girl!
๐
That sounds so good right now. I’ll be tagging along in spirit.
Let’s see how ambitious I get with picture-taking!
Ohhh so envious. Soak in everything at the Prado doubly for me, won’t you? I really love the Spanish old masters…
The trip won’t be complete without a Prado visit!
Which Goodsir? The new Iris?
Happy travels!!
Thanks! Iris Cendre – I just realized I never mentioned which one!
I am desperate for that one… But have to wait for another couple of months as the perfume budget is exhausted. It will be worth waiting for!
Oh Gosh, I just realized I never mentioned which perfume I’m wearing! I feel like a dog ate my homework coming but it was just pure sloppiness! It’s Iris Cendre!
I’m wearing Alahine parfum today, golden ambery goodness. I don’t think he makes the parfum and longer and I am so happy I have a little bit of it. It’s just the thing on another cold, gray, rainy day. It’s a good thing I love the rain and have lots of perfumes to warm me up.
Alahine is a desert island, year round, totally gorgeous, perfect amber. One of my absolute favorites.
Very tempted to blind buy this one!
SOTD IS Feve Delicieuse which is so cozy on this cold rainy day.
Started off sampling Donna Karan Liquid Cashmere White which rapidly turned into a boring vanilla skin scent so I’m now in the much lovelier Songes
It is my wedding anniversary today. My husband’s favorite perfume note for me to wear is tuberose, so I’m wearing Tubereuse Criminelle during the day and I’m going to wear Carnal Flower for dinner tonight.
Happy anniversary!
Thank you!
Happy Anniversary!
Thank you!
Happy Anniversary!!
Thanks!
Hope it is a lovely anniversary for you both!
Thank you, it is so far!
Awwwww, Happy Anniversary! So sweet that he has his favorite notes. My husband’s favorite notes are no notes. But he is very supportive of my hobby, so long as I don’t insist on him smelling everything.
Oh bummer! My husband definitely plays along HAHAHHAA. Although he might not love spending so much time at the counters at Barneys. He tends to wander.
Also thank you for the well wishes!!
Congratulations!
Thanks!!!
Inspired by a comment yesterday I’m in Cuir de Lancome.
I think that was me! We’ve been smelling lovely this week. Today I am in Kenzo Flower Oriental and celebrating my last day of work until the new year. Tra la la… (no dancing, though)
I survived a bizarre surgery, so to thank my awesome team, I contacted my Man in NY to suggest a gift for my medical team that wasn’t Harry and David’s fruit basket. He sent me 2 of these boxed small decants from a company called Ex Nihilo. Huh. I am trying one called Venenun Kiss. Smells like Opus VI Lite. Good, but I can’t see a Montana surgeon wearing this. The feminine one was Fleurs Narcotique, which reminded me of Hermes Fbg. 24, but, not as good. I’ve decided to handmake a card for each, and keep one set of samples and give the other to a more seasoned perfumista. Might have been better off with a basket of fruit…I tried…
Hey, congrats on pulling through the surgery! That’s wonderful. And it definitely sounds like you tried–perfume-buying for Montanans is a challenge ๐ I’m sure they will appreciate your personal cards. Hearing how meaningful their work is beats stuff any day.
To go one step even lower brow… I have sent many huge boxes of donuts to medical teams…with a warm card. The team is supported by the rest of the staff and the rest of the staff appreciates being included in the thanks and the donuts wind up in the employee lounge for about 10 minutes and then they are gone…. and the surgeons drive off in their M3s and the oncologists in their Hondas… and so it goes.
But I do love the thought of your curious surgeon sniffing gingerly at the perfume samples…
OK, I’m doin’ the donut thing! Since I can’t have donuts, at least someone can! Nothing like a donut on a cold winter day! Thanks for tip!
Now…how to find donuts in Missoula where it’s easy to deliver…
Just a quick question. I just blind bought a small bottle of Warda by Swiss Arabian. I read some fabulous descriptions of it and don’t know what possessed me – I’m sure nobody here has EVER done that before- Has anyone smelled this perfume? And if so what’s the verdict?

I’m testing Alaia, courtesy of the lovely Ihadanidea.
Totally off-topic whine: Feeling a wee bit sorry for myself as a trucker opened his door into the side of my car as I was driving down a narrow lane/road yesterday and took out a chunk of the passenger side of my car. No one was hurt, and the poor man was nearly out of his wits with apologies. But the estimate from the body shop is staggering… our insurance will pick up most of the tab, but I am in a rental for three plus weeks…. and my kitten is sick (he’s 2, but we still call him the kitten). My son and I are taking him to vet this afternoon, in my rental car.
As for the Alaia, I’m getting a red pepper/tomato leaf vibe (NOT listed in the notes, and not mentioned by anyone else so is clearly the product of my over imaginative nose). I am reminded of Womanity somewhat…. the saltiness and the sweet musk together perhaps?
Aww, sorry to hear about your car and your kitty. I hope both are in perfect working order again soon.
I’ve been known to hallucinate food scents in my perfumes (Un Jardin En Mediterinee actually reminds me of tomato sauce, and I’m particularly prone to imagining apple and banana in scents where they definitely don’t exist). I’m actually slightly more tempted to try Alaia since you mentioned red pepper/tomato leaf, though, even if it doesn’t come across the same way to my very silly nose.
If you do try it, let me know if you get any hints of savory that I’m picking up!
So sorry, but so glad you are ok! And hope kitty will be better soon.
Me too! He’s been pumped full of fluids and antibiotics…
Alaia is unusual, that’s for sure. With both an out of commission car and a sick kitten, I think you’ve earned more than a good whine. This is Amouage FB level misfortune. ๐
Perfume philosophy…so comforting. And so logical. So many Amouages left to try… sigh… life is good even when it isn’t!
You guys crack me up! But of course there is an Amouage for every occasion!
Not sure what time it will be in your neck of the woods when I post this, so you may not see it, but for what my opinion is worth, I have decidedI quite like Alaia. I can find all sorts of leafy greenness it, but II don’t get the full range of notes unless I wear the body lotion, which is sufficiently potent on its own that I don’t really need the perfume as well. However, if I do spray the perfume from my sample when I wear the body lotion, I then get all sorts of interesting things that simply never emerge on me if I wear the perfume alone, when it tends to be some violet, a bit more violet and even more violet. I rather admire the two together.
Your nose I think is on a lot straighter than mine. I just looked at the notes… and while I get the initial violet, it quickly goes into leafy, salty, musky territory on me… THIS is why I am not a famous nose at Firmenich….
Sounds like you have grounds for a bit of self-pity. Hope your rental isn’t too bad and your kitten gets better soon!
Etro Sandalao which came in rollerball form in the most recent swapmeet. It’s helping to smooth my transition into officially stir crazy.
On Monday I’m going down to one crutch, which seems super scary. And none in the new year!
Ah, but on the bright side, you are a )healing quickly b) now possess killer arm muscles from all the crutching around and c) smell fabulous today ๐
Thank you!
I am hoping that soon, like Tiny Tim, you can cast aside those cumbersome crutches and once again walk on air unassisted,
In the meantime, you are the best smelling, crutch sporting person around ๐
haha ha thanks!
Wore Chinatown today… Feve Delicieuse on the agenda for tomorrow!
What a great perfume. You smell lovely!
BF Lampblack seems like a great match for Star Wars! I may try to see it on one of the Smithsonian IMAX screens next week.
