Our 2015 series of holiday gift posts continues with home fragrance items. Do comment if you have any fabulous suggestions of your own! Coming up on Sunday: gift ideas for men.
From Tocca, the John Robshaw collection, featuring handmade ceramic candles with lids. Available in a number of scents, designs and colors; shown is Pondicherry ("An old French colonial outpost in India, Pondicherry paints its mansions in fantastic alizarin pinks and cadmium yellows. I love exploring Goubert Market for its baskets of vetyver, garland flowers, black currants and pamplemousse.") 270g (55 hour burn time), $60 each at Beautyhabit.
From The 7 Virtues, the Peace candle, available in the brand's five fragrances (Afghanistan Orange Blossom, Noble Rose of Afghanistan, Vetiver of Haiti, Middle East Peace or Patchouli of Rwanda). 50 hour burn time, $44 each at The 7 Virtues.
From Tom Dixon, the Fire diffuser: "Fire is a complex combination of cypriol oil, musk and amber that recreates the olfactory memories of smoky scorched timber and hot dry tarmac. It is gently dispersed through your home through a single British-sourced charcoal stick. Held within a mouth-blown colored glass vessel with hand-applied gold lettering, this diffuser by Tom Dixon adds a wonderful touch to any room." $115 at Nordstrom.
The Boheme collection at Paddywax features 5 fragrances, each sold in 2 sizes, in hand-painted ceramic bowls. Shown is Green Fig & Violet ($31.50 for 12.5 oz or as shown, $21 for 7 oz). They are currently on discount at Casa.
"Explore the mysteries of the night sky" with this votive set from Miller Harris, with 80g candles in Rock Star ("a deep, smokey base of cedar, whilst vivacious vetiver and santal orbit the warm presence of nutmeg and cumin with charismatic spark"), Super Star ("fresh fig harnesses the contagious presence of this celestial being, whilst santal and cedar hold the aromatic gaze of sensual tree moss. Invigorating top notes of rosemary, cypress and Sicilian lemon shine together to create an out of this world experience when set alight") and Wild Star ("an uplifting cocktail of garrigue, cypress needles and rosemary.") £75 at Escentual in the UK.
L'Occitane's Winter Forest home perfume spray invites you to "imagine the fragrant atmosphere of a cozy moment by the fireside after a brisk walk through a pine forest. With just a few sprays in the air, let yourself be carried away to Provence…" $30 for 100 ml at L'Occitane USA.
From Rodin, a 17.5 oz pillar candle featuring the brand's signature Olio Lusso neroli / jasmine blend from DS & Durga. $125 at Dermstore.
From the Parfums Berger range at Lampe Berger, a fragrance diffusion system with a ceramic lily that wicks from the refill: "Lily shapes in grey, for a chic & trendy home look. Each mini bouquet comes with its own mini funnel to make refilling easy." Various shapes and flowers are available at Lampe Berger in Canada and the UK; this one is £15.50 and can be scented with jasmine, verbena or "sensual bouquet".
The Rodin candle looks very glam. However, I buy the same home fragrance gift every year: Cire Trudon Abd El Kader mini candles. Slowly but surely, I will make the world smell a little more like Abd El Kader!
Kevin likes that one — I really should get one myself. Do you use it too, or just buy for gifts?
Oh, actually I may be confused, he does like the brand but not sure if that’s the one I am thinking of…
I do love the Winter Forest products from L’Occitane. In my pre-perfume days, the prices struck me as a bit much to pay to scent my house, but, ha ha ha, oh how things change 🙂
(Still for the bargain hunters, do note the $18 refill for 100ml!)
Ah, thanks — did not know there was a refill!
I need to try the Winter Forest fragrances.
That Afghanistan Orange Blossom candle is awfully tempting. I’ll have to check if Hudson Bay is carrying the candles.
Just checked and they are indeed web only.
I am sorely tempted to get the orange blossom one…
I also noticed that they are doing a two for three special on these candles, the 50 ml bottles and the 100 ml bottles until December 6.
Ah, good to know, thanks!!
Ive tried the Tom Dixon and love it, though I prefer the smell of hot Tarmac as its bubbling away wait to be laid ! The price is ok too given how long it lasts and the fact that the glass is mouth blown and has hand work on the gold lettering. The stick of charcoal works nicely too as an alternative to the ubiquitous reeds
Ah, thanks so much for commenting!
Have to admit, it is the most interesting one!
There’s a Berger outlet in the local mall: I’ve never even been inside, but I really should check out their home fragrances, because that lily is clever (and I’m kind of tired of the sticks-in-a-bottle aesthetic).
Agree – I love the idea of a diffuser, but have never bought one because the reed thing just annoys me. I’m certain I’d just knock it over…
I don’t think the ceramic things are in the US, unfortunately…at least, not on their website.
Doubt I will find them in SA then 🙁 Just as well, as I would be tempted!
Yeah, as well as the Tom Dixon, I will also take a Miller Harris and the lily Lampe Berger… Thanks!
🙂
Roja Dove Christmas candle – wowwowwee, the notes read like a fabulous perfume: fir balsam, fir needle, pine, woods, gingerbread, cinnmon, fenugreek, toffee, cocoa, heliotrope, birch tar, vetiver, leather, tonka bean. I smelled a burning version of it at Osswald last night and it confirmed how great the notes are together. Mine will stay unlit but will fragrance my room nicely.
Wow, that’s a quite the holiday note list! Enjoy your new (unlit) candle.
I didn’t know that The 7 Virtues had candles now. Cool!
