It’s Black Friday or Buy Nothing Day — but either way, we’re kicking off our annual string of holiday gift posts. Today: scent-related Christmas Crackers. As with advent calendars, they're more popular in the UK than the US, but there are plenty to be found everywhere this year. More gift suggestions to come over the next few weeks!
Jo Malone's 2015 Christmas Cracker: "Delight dinner guests with our Christmas Cracker, full of scented surprises. Tart-juicy Blackberry & Bay Cologne. Reviving Lime Basil & Mandarin Body & Hand Wash. Opulent Peony & Blush Suede Body Crème. Tied with mistletoe green ribbon to set the table with style." $45 at Bergdorf Goodman.
Annick Goutal's Le Cracker: "Share the magic of the holidays with the generous Annick Goutal cracker, a joyful celebration of the art of giving and receiving." Cracker includes Noel Candle, Eau d'Hadrien and Baume Splendide Mains. $55 at Bloomingdales.
From Molton Brown, the Delicious Rhubarb & Rose Holiday Cracker: "London via Yorkshire: A crimson summer tart. Freshly picked roses. Bowls of sugar, spice and all things nice. Vivacious. Fizzy. Tempting." With Delicious Rhubarb & Rose Hand Cream, Bath & Shower Gel and Body Lotion, $25 at Saks Fifth Avenue. Molton Brown also has crackers this year in Fiery Pink Pepper and Re-charge Black Pepper.
From Roger & Gallet, crackers with scented hand creams: "Rejuvenate dry, rough hands with the Roger&Gallet Fleur de Figuier Hand Cream Cracker, a luxurious hand and nail cream housed within cracker-shaped packaging. Working to nourish even the most tired, hard-working hands, the non-greasy cream is infused with moisturising shea butter, fig extract and aloe vera to leave you with touchably soft skin and conditioned nails. Absorbs quickly and uplifts your spirits with a delicious, sweet fig fragrance." Also available in Fleur d'Osmanthus and Bois d'Orange, £6 each at Look Fantastic.
The Tory Burch Holiday Cracker: "This bold new twist on the traditional holiday cracker comes cheerfully wrapped in elegant grosgrain ribbon in Tory’s signature orange. Hidden inside each is a Tory Burch Eau de Parfum Rollerball and a little note from Tory— it’s the perfect extra gift or stocking stuffer." $28 at Sephora.
Lush's Human Cannonball isn't really a cracker, but it's close enough for our purposes: "Come one, come all to the circus of the luxurious where the lights are bright and the scents are delightful! Allow us to introduce The Human Cannonball: five feats of marvelous bath bombs are waiting to be found inside. Go on, step right up and enjoy a cinematic experience of popping candy, swirling colors, glimmering lusters and baths filled with fizzing delights…if you dare. Your bath is sure to be your new favorite act." $39.95 at Lush USA, £24.95 at Lush UK.
From The Body Shop, the Festive Cranberry Cracker: "The Body Shop's Frosted Cranberry Festive Cracker Gift Set comes perfectly packaged in a festive cracker- no wrapping required. Pure bath and body indulgence!" With Frosted Cranberry Heart Soap and Mini Frosted Cranberry Body Lotion, $7 each or 2 for $10 at The Body Shop USA, where crackers are also available in Shea, Glazed Apple, Frosted Plum or Strawberry.
Or, fill your own crackers (perfume samples? decants?). The crackers shown above are from John Lewis in the UK, £5 for a pack of 6. In the US, you can find empty crackers at Olde English Crackers, Casa or Sur La Table, among others.
I love the holiday crackers. I might go this route for gifts to the people I work with. The Jo Malone for family and close friends. The Body Shop and Molton Brown for co-workers.
I like the idea of crackers too 🙂
I have seen crackers before, but had forgotten about this completely. Now I am going to wrap my presents for my family this way this year! 😀
We used to do them at Xmas dinner but sort of got out of the habit. We just got the more typical paper hats & jokes, though!
Annick Goutal’s Le Cracker gets my vote because of the Noël votive candle plus hand cream. Eau d’Hadrien ain’t what it used to be, but the little roller ball would be nice to tuck in the purse for a discreet refresh.
I love the Noel…been trying to talk myself into buying the full-sized candle this year, but ack, $90.
I’m seeing some of the votive sets on ebay. 😉
Ah, will take a peek, thanks!
