Monday scent of the day 11/23

Posted by Robin on 23 November 2015 268 Comments

Le Labo Tubereuse 40

Another week begins, and I'm already running late. Hope your Monday is going well! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing Le Labo Tubereuse 40.

Reminder: this Friday, 11/27, we are giving thanks: wear a perfume you're thankful for. (suggested by thegoddessrena)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Day three of Chanel no 5. It’s going to be the perfume I am wearing until Wednesday. Thanksgiving will be something else. Not looking forward to work these next few days.

I share your sentiments for work. I’m somewhat dreading the amount of work I need to cram in to these next three days. Good luck to both of us!

Tubereuse is the lovely green cologne one, right? I miss having a sample of that one.

I’m wearing just a dab of Ma Griffe parfum, which I found in an antique store this weekend. I’m enjoying it but I wouldn’t hunt it down when I’m done.

It’s basically a very cheerful orange blossom / citrus.

Nice find — is it the little mini bottle? I had one of those.

That’s the one. Lovely but ridiculously overpriced.

One of the tiny minis that was probably in one of those sample sets they put out in the 60’s. I steal at only a few dollars!

Wearing warm and lovely Attrape Coeur on this chilly Monday..very grateful for my nice decant of this hard to find scent. Very short week for me – have arranged to take Wednesday off! 5 days in a row off…closest thing to a vacation I’ve had in years…

I am afraid I have several days of it already filled up with finishing little projects – hang the curtains I finally got sewed up in my bedroom, build new stairs for the chicken coop before someone breaks a leg, add one more grow light to Light Box #2 for my indoor lettuce garden, and build LIght Box#3 – for herbs and radishes! But I intend to spend a few hours watching some old favorite movie for warm weather scenery, maybe Cold Comfort Farm, or Enchanted April, or A Good Year, and sorting out my knitting projects…

Yes, I am very eager to putter around, I love that sort of thing. Having something in your hand so you can say, “This is what I did today!” Much nicer than unending meetings and unending error queues which is my work life at the moment…

It is so wonderfully complex, I just kind of go along for the ride. Right now, I have spices over a greenish base…later I know it will be more woody ambery. Might get more flowers between here and there, tho.

I am deeply grateful for the fact that everything’s coming up Ihadanidea right now! I will not take it for granted.

And I am also INCREDIBLY grateful for the tremendous support I received from all of you on Friday. You may be tired of me saying it, but this really is the warmest and kindest place on the internet. Thanks for being an amazing support system, even if it only the internet!

Lots of love to you all, and I waft my Tom Ford Noir de Noir wrists at all of you by way of thanks.

Is the LeLabo Tubereuse at all tuberose? Is it nice regardless? I like anything tuberose :)

Ive spent most of the last few days in Reem Acra. A mini obsession for it it seems. It reminds me of something I wore about 23 years ago because I have flashbacks of what I was doing then (having lots of fun!), but I cant for the life of me recall what it couldve been. Ive been mentally listing the perfumes I wore then, and things like Yardley Sweetpea dont fit this slightly medicinal, ambery orange blossom. I’m loving this stuff, but wishing it lasted longer.

I like Naomi Goodsir as well and I think this is my favourite from her yet. Iris Cendre is definitely worth trying, although probably not the thing for people who like their perfumes warm and very opulent.

You smell great! I’m surprised at how much I like Iris Cendre, which I wore yesterday but would have been a good scent for the weather today. Everyone has been concerned about you in these extra-stressful times. Hope you’re doing well.

This is kind of you (and everybody), I’m safe and well. Iris Cendre seems to have a surprisingly wide fan-base and I’m glad it’s getting the love. I like the brand in general, I think all the scents are well made and distinctive and I like that there are so few of them!

Thanks, Elisa. There are some practical considerations (metro not working) and the constant police sirens, but otherwise it feels relatively calm – although there are obviously concerns about the safety of the Commission buildings/staff. The main thing for our family is that as the schools are closed, my daughter stays home until the government changes the alert level. But she seems quite unaffected by all this, mostly devising plans how to lure terrorists into a trap in the desert, by the cunning use of gummybears.

Childhood innocence: if only gummy bears were the solution to the world’s problems… It all sounds unnerving but I lived in Israel during the 1st Intifada in the 80’s and life was calmer in reality than how it appeared on the news.

As we haven’t had any attacks, it’s not quite comparable to Paris – or Israel, for that matter. But they’ve just announced that it’ll be level 4 for tomorrow at least, schools still closed.

And I knew you would get Iris Cendre. It’s on my sample list at the Skins boutique, to be ordered no earlier than December.

I wore Iris Cendre yesterday and enjoyed it tremendously! I posted yesterday to the effect of this is for the person who does not like the icy carrotty vibe of Iris Silver Mist. The iris I get from Iris Cendre is also similar to that of DSH Scent of Hope without the peach opening. Contrary to what I posted yesterday, there is no cedar; there is something that makes the perfume cozily warm and spicy. Also, just when I thought it went poof after 8 hours (2 sprizez), it came surging back during hour 10 when I was running errands going from warm to cold to warm to cold surroundings. It is very well done!

I’m glad you’re doing well. I think your daughter is so adorable!

I think this one can be a bit of a shape shifter – sometimes it’s greener, sometimes smokier, sometimes slightly more floral. And today I actually smelled a woody note at some point that could have been cedar. I think it smells different in close-up and from afar, too (I mean, more than an average scent). In any case, I agree it’s well done.

And thank you – I find her adorable as well, most of the time :)

I’m sampling Grandiflora Madagascan Jasmine on this bright, crisp morning. It frankly doesn’t suit the weather at all, but I’m anticipating pretty tropical sillage when I get warm at the gym and afterward as I lug my Hoyas and other delicate plants back outside. It’s a pain being a gardener without a greenhouse in this climate. Hope everyone has a lovely short work week.

I have concluded that one of the true luxuries is having in one’s closet only clothes that feel comfortable and look great. No “pretty but not fitting quite right”, no “ugly but in too good a shape to give away”….I am working toward this end, by the simple expedient of each time a buy a new piece, I get rid of 2!!

    Chooo-choooo!
All aboard the drama train this morning in my office!
I knew today would be busy since we’ve got a short week and reports immediately afterwards, so I’m trying to get ahead while I can. That being said I was in several impromptu meetings this mornings with the higher-ups about a few office drama issues surrounding a couple employees that have basically alienated the rest of the office with their negative nancy-ness and general whiner mode. Our office is very small so when a toxic person is introduced the effect is pretty much immediate. I’m actually surprised it’s lasted this long, but it seems like we’ll be nipping it in the butt very soon.
It’s cold out and I needed a power scent to keep me in line, so I put on spicy Amouage Opus IV.

Ugh. People like that are water cooler grumblers. I hope you are able to re-train them and have them understand what their responsibilities are. I had that initially with some of employees at my job, and management very firmly set them on the right path.

You smell grand, like a queen.

There’s a weird dynamic with the drama makers. I don’t know if it’s possible to re-train either of them, but one of them most likely won’t be working here for much longer. She clearly overstated her abilities when we hired her and 6 months later we still aren’t seeing desired results. The other one, I think, might change her tune when the first ones goes because she won’t have a sidekick backing her up anymore. Maybe then the issues will subside. We shall see.

Thanks! This fragrance is definitely empowering.

I had a frazzled, running-late, traffic-y morning, and J. Crew/Arquiste 57 is carrying me through. In fact, both of the J. Crew/Arquiste scents have fallen into my no-brainer category. Funny that I was only lukewarm on them when I first tried them and glad I had the strange compulsion to keep re-trying them anyway.

I’ve decided to do a week-long exercise of gratitude fragrances, and am starting today with the lovely Ormande Jayne Ormande Woman. Two sprays haven’t lasted very long, though, and I wish I had tucked my bottle in my bag! This was a Christmas present last year from my husband, and I love its woodsy warmth.

“Exercise of gratitude”! What a fabulous concept.

Wish I’d run across this post before I decided to sample… of course, I might not have to wait long before the sample wears off and I can put on something I’m grateful for. That’s pretty much the only benefit of scent-eating skin.

      Farouche,

Am I remembering correctly that you have a bottle of Tendre Est La Nuit? (Ooops if I am totally wrong!!) Have you tried Majda Bekkali’s Sacree-Elle? When I go on Frangrantica, all I see is Fusion Sacree for for her–maybe it is the same thing?

If this is completely random, just ignore!!

Yes, you are entirely correct, OF! Sadly I wore Tendre Est La Nuit last December before becoming quite ill and spending two days in the hospital. I haven’t been able to face it since :-( . Haven’t tried Sacree-Elle.

That is really too bad.. I have the same problem with Fracas—when someone else was sick I used it to perk myself up.

But at least the Bekkali bottle is beautiful to look at…even if you don’t fancy the scent any more.

I underdressed this am and just can’t shake this chill. Brrrrrrr! Dealing with a bit of a mess at work and feeling like I have to play the diplomatic middle man because of someone else’s error. I’m a wee bit stressed this am and have compensated with too much coffee. Fortified with Lubin Korrigan layered with a spritz of Tauer LADDM. They compliment each other nicely, and the Lubin adds a bit of sweetness to the drier Tauer.

Short week, huzzah! Am so lucky.

Rather cold this morning; 29F (-2C) when I woke up. Am wearing an impromptu black suit with a heavy cotton sateen blouse and short black boots with heel- and warm merino wool trouser socks! Over all that is a big cocoon, which when zipped up, makes you look like a Muppet. But it’s warm and cozy!

And course, to go with the cold snap this morning – a application of Tom Ford’s Noir body lotion after a quick warming shower(With TBS Smoky Poppy). The lotion is more amber-y, more spicy than the perfume itself. You only need a little bit- the lotion is very, very rich and scent is generous. Very cozy indeed.

The outfit sounds great – and a fun match with the perfume. There is a huge appeal to a Muppet cocoon when it’s cold I find!

I’m wearing Illuminum Tomato Leaf today.

We have major plumbing problems in our house, and have not had running water for almost a week, due to broken pipes. Right now, we have a 20-foot tunnel dug under our home trying to fix the problem. It’s amazing how much we take the modern conveniences for granted, like running water.

Biaser Vole Lys Rose cause I’m sitting in bed eating breakfast …. A bowl of strawberries with yoghurt ( I got sidetracked in the supermarket yesterday hence the breakfast swerve ). I think this is the first time I’ve managed to match my breakfast to my perfume so feeling proud. It’s been warm here for one whole day – that’s probably it for summer now. The Lys Rose sample was given to me by the assistant who sold me Cristalle. Tomorrow I will try a Cristalle breakfast match so I’m guessing it will be another oat free start to the day.

Good morning, all. Have you ever gone through a situation/meeting/encounter when it becomes obvious that not only is the lunacy loose and running free, but before it set off, it had time to produce litters of lime green babies that are already getting up to No Good At All? Yesterday was just such a day for me. It was so awful that I’ve been wondering if I can just opt out of the rest of my life…the dear man says not. So. I can face today two ways: black skirt, white shirt, red belt, red boots, and Number 19, or my favourite jeans, washed and worn so much they’re soft and losing their colour, sneakers and Number 19. I’m leaning towards the jeans, the sartorial equivalent of lifting the middle finger skywards. The dear one says the skirt, and to sock it to ’em with a big, girly perfume, not 19. The truth is, I’m so fed up, I don’t much care. I know I’m in my 60s and all, but right now, I could really do with talking to my father!

Yep. I’m out. Not only does it all do violence to my inner Waterdragon, I’m acutely aware that inasmuch as I think they’re light-weight and engaged in dumbing education down, I’m also exactly the wrong person for them. I can’t suspend my critical faculties and enter their communal fantasy for this new degree. I’ll delegate to someone younger and less, ummm, hardened into a single shape than I am.

I don’t know why I think of lunacy as being lime green, but I do, and I think a little lunacy would be neon-bright until it gets its adult coat…plumage? I can’t quite see if lunacies have feathers or fur. The best ones probably have both. I do know this: lunacies lay eggs in dark corners and cupboards and when the babies hatch, they end up EVERYWHERE.

I’m beginning to laugh about it all, and I know it’s a small problem compared with what the rest of the world is facing.

I’m testing Poivre Piquant… don’t see adding this to my wish list of FBs, but I am enjoying it (part of the problem is that I love the initial blast, but it fades to something not nearly so interesting fairly quickly). What I now know is, hands down, my favorite perfumer is Bertrand Duchaufour… I love many others of course, but I am consistently interested in or deeply enamored of his perfumes. It is like he has me in mind when he dreams up a scent–okay, that is not only really narcissistic, but kinda weird–but you know what I mean.

Love reading these comments! Worked until 3am on a term paper (kinda a badge of honor when you’re 20. When you’re 40-something, a little less so- & a lot less pretty on the face:P). So this morning, bleary-eyed and grumpy, I reached for comfort via Chanel Allure edp. Linked forever to some of the happiest memories I carry. Present yet soft and it accompanies through the day.

Then I came home from work and went willy-nilly, spritzed a few drops of ’09 TM Angel Liquer de Parfum, let it settle for 5 and then topped with a ’94 Dior Dune. Airy, bittersweet chocolate heaven. Time for good sleep. :)

Had an incredibly busy day at work but L’air de Desert stayed with me all day. I’ so happy that I bought this one.

Very late here. Wearing Eau Savage Parfum, warm with lots of myrrh. And got me also (thanks, Farouche) celebrating the scents I’m thankful to have. (Though I’d really need more than a week!)

Mobility challenged, I grabbed the first thing that caught my eye in my sample case–le labo santal, which has lasted a good 6+ hours. What scents encourage bone healing? :-p

I have a friend in France who is curious about the best places online to get samples and decants in Europe. Being in the US myself, I don’t know the answer and I figured this would be the perfect place to ask :) Thank you in advance, everyone!

yukiej, if you ask again on Tuesday’s Scent of the Day post earlier in the day, more people will see your question and respond. I’m in the U.S., so I can’t say I know the best source for France, but I have occasionally ordered samples from Europe for perfumes not yet released here. First in Fragrance has a wide selection, and customer service is great. I have also ordered from websites of individual niche companies, such as Ys-Uzac (Switzerland), Maria Candida Gentile (Italy), and La Via del Profumo (Italy), with good results. I’m sure others will have more ideas, too.
