It's Catherine Deneuve's birthday today. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a teensy drop of vintage Chanel No. 5. It isn't really my favorite.
Reminder: this Friday, 10/23, will be Slow Burn Friday: wear the perfume it took you the longest to love, or the longest to buy, or the longest to find.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I love Catherine Deneuve! Repulsion, Les parapluies de Cherbourg, Belle de jour : such great movies!
I’m wearing Black Cat, from Velvet & Sweet Pea.
“Belle de Jour” is SO amazing, just one of my favourite movies ever. Deneuve is also great in the magnificently campy François Ozon film “8 Women”, in which she gets to make out with Fanny Ardent, because obviously anybody would.
I loved 8 Femmes. And the scene with Deneuve and Ardant is very funny. They appeared in an interview on French TV together because of the film. Deneuve seemed very much in control there, and the French journalist asking the questions a little stricken with these two formidable women in front of him!
I love Catherine Deneuve too! I wish I still had the mini of her fragrance that I got many years ago. So elegant! One of my fav movies of her’s besides the amazing Belle de Jour is the 2010 Potiche where she plays this rich older wife of an umbrella factory worker and she ends up in politics. It is very funny.
Yes – Potiche is a hilarious film! Deneuve is such a wonderful actress.
Loved Repulsion and Belle de Jour. Also in one of my weird favorites The Hunger with David Bowie. So much eye candy!
Long life to Deneuve, wonderful actress and fellow perfumista. If I knew it is her birthday I would be wearing something she enjoys in her homage, like Songes or L’Heure Bleue. But I’m already with my vintage Armani, a good ‘I’m fabulous, don’t mess with me’ perfume for a potentially stressful work day.
Wishing you all a stress free, Parapluies de Chebourg-style day!
I was wishing I had a drop of her namesake perfume — never smelled it.
Omg, I’d love to smell that!
FM’s Parfum de Therese for me today.
You smell fabulous!
Ooooh, that’s one of my favorites. Now I’m regretting my choice for today.
Memoir Man (Amouage)
Hope it is a great day!
That Deneuve picture! I don’t usually love No. 5 either but, I’m sure for Deneuve in a tuxedo I could learn to love anything.
I’m wearing my Poivre Piquant sample while I consider a bottle purchase (unless someone can save me from myself over at my late entry to the swapmeet.) Some whiffs I think it smells terrific, and other times it smells overly clean to me. I’m surprised to make that complaint as I wear lots of very clean things, don’t necessarily hate white musk, etc. etc. But something about this (sometimes) yells LAUNDRY louder than I’d like…
OTOH, this is about the fifth time I’ve worn it in two weeks, more than anything I actually own!
“I’m sure for Deneuve in a tuxedo I could learn to love anything.”
Hear, hear! 100% agreed, C.H.
I’ll attempt to take you off the ledge: the only reason you’ve worn it 5x in two weeks is you are being very disciplined in your evaluation and you seem to be concluding that it is a perfume you LIKE at times, not love. I think you’re better off with a decant than a FB..
This is exceedingly wise advice. Could def be the intrigue of testing rather than true love. There is something to be said for ease of wear (I have other new prospects that are more clearly true love that I’ve worn less!), but on the other hand, in five wears I’m only halfway through my 1ml sample: a VERY sobering thought about how much I would have to wear it to get through 100ml (blastedly the only available bottle size at present.) Am I going to want to wear it 1000 times? Not a snowball’s chance in, etc. (Hahaha, it’s fun/horrifying to think about what 1000 wears really means. Every single day for three years…every other day for six years…once a week for TWENTY YEARS!!)
Ouch, better skip the math!
Still commander this morning
This time last year I was reading online in the rain for the amazing Hermes sample sale, and scored some really nice bottles of Kelly caleche However this year before I even open my eyes it was already 240 people waiting online a little bit extreme I’m skipping this year
Commander — that’s got to mean you’re wearing something big? (j/k)
I had just posted a beautiful picture of Catherine to my FB page celebrating and paying homage to one of the most beautiful women on the planet. I am wearing pure Indian sandalwood, naughty I know, but this cost me a real fortune and I LOVE it. I am layering it with pure Oud, another small fortune, but but worth every penny. I dispense this with careful execution as I am trying to stretch both bottles out for a very long time. The finisher today is Monte Perris Imperial Oud. On a day like today I feel like Catherine in “la Chamade” driving down the highway in her fur coat and hair blowing in the wind as she laughs with crazy abandon. She was probably wearing “Shocking: by Schiaparelli. Happy Birthday Catherine and thank you fro your entire library of legendary movies (which I own) and long live the legend.
You smell DYNAMITE!
Wearing Diorissimo today–vintage-ish. One last shout of spring before the cold.
Ah, I should join you.
Commando so far because I have a doctor appointment this morning and someone here (Bexca, I think) reminded us a day or so ago that doctors’ offices and hospitals are usually fragrance-free environments these days. Will take something with me to spritz on afterward.
Ooh, yay, I did a public service announcement! (Though really, if anyone could smell and react to the Osmanthe Yunnan I wore, I would’ve been shocked.)
LOL! If they could smell OY on you, they were WAY too close. I guess doctors have to get that close sometimes, but just walking through the halls near you should have been pretty safe for everyone. 🙂
I brought Escale a Portofino to spritz on when I got to work, so that’s my SOTA.
Cuir de Russie today. My mom took baby Jack for a week so I could *thoroughly* clean my house. (I had a rather unpleasant pregnancy and never went through a nesting period. It needs to be scrubbed from top to bottom.) I found a shopping bag under my bed with three Les Exclisifs in it, so yesterday was 31 Rue Cambon and tomorrow will be Beige. It seems like a fitting reward, because I really, really, really hate cleaning.
I have this paste tiara I bought on the clearance rack at Walmart several years ago ($6!) that I wear to clean toilets. Anything to make me feel like a princess while I’m working like Cinderella.
OMG. I love that.
Gosh, that’s really brilliant!
Wonderful! Now I have a use for plastic tiara from my school days. 🙂
Good luck with the cleaning!
😉
That comment has made my day!!
Ahhh! I love it.
I’m wearing the raspberry beret that I got at the 2012 Prince concert. (Although it’s really purple.) My other option was the pink sequin cowgirl hat with a veil attached that I was given for my bachelorette party. This is what happens when I clean out my closet.
A huge regret is that I never went to a Prince concert… My husband and kids do not understand what an amazing artist is Prince! Philistines…. mutter…. mutter…..mutter….
It’s not too late. He still tours plenty, he just doesn’t always like to give a lot of notice. 🙂
When he does come your way…run, don’t walk to get tickets. He’s worth every penny you’ll pay. He also loves to surprise his fans with top notch openers and guest stars. Jennifer Hudson popped out through a trap door in the middle of nothing compares 2 u. Her voice was so powerful that I still get goosebumps thinking about it. At the time no one had seen her in awhile after her family had been killed, so it was especially surprising.
I went to his after party at a smaller venue too. It was good, but very laid back. I needed more energy to stay up all night. That experience left me feeling old.
Seeing him was always on my to do list, but now I want more. His show is easily on my top five concerts list – and I used to work for a major entertainment company, attending concerts was part of my job. I’ve easily seen 400 shows and Prince is arguably #1.
Put it at the top of your bucket list.
LOL, I’m glad I finished swallowing my bite of chicken !
!!! In my family we have one to wear if you have to pack for a move! Amazing–or maybe I should not be surprised that the perfume crowd knows how to do chores in style! 🙂
CdR is really great for fall! And what a find- to find your shopping after all that time!
It is great, although I wish it lasted a bit longer. After just a few hours it’s barely noticeable.
And I should clarify – those were samples in the bag. If I had three full bottles of exclusives under the bed for years I think you all would nominate me for fragrance rehab.
oh good. I am so glad you clarified!
Off to get a plastic tiara!
I had an early dental appointment so I wore a single spritz of Mugler Pure Coffee, one of my go-to inoffensive scents. It’s so great.
Scent twins! Wearing just barely a whisper of #5, still recovering from my heavy hand with Nirvana Black yesterday.
It’s not totally my style, but I like No. 5. I got a sample of the vintage parfum and can’t say it really added any extra magic for me, which I guess is lucky.
Wearing Onda extrait today. I must be having a rough perfume week because this is the third day in a row that I picked a scent I love, but was totally not in the mood for. At least I smell good.
I have some qualms as well. With me, I think I know I will love this fragrance, but in the end, I simply like it for its genre, and it cannot replace a certain one-love scent. For me, it is the sandalwood note in Bois des Îles.
In contrast to the restrained hands today who are applying lightly, I’m continuing my SL week in five sprays of A la Nuit. I love this one and I wanted a big jasmine cloud around me this morning.
Wow. Five-
You WILL be noticed!
I have those jasmine blow-outs as well… with Alien, jasmine attars, Joy, and of course A la Nuit! You smell ravishing!
Big jasmine cloud it is. And you smell beautiful.
SOTD: I tried to drain my sample of PG Indochine and I think it’s now challenging Coromandel for the top position on my FB list. I still have a decent size sample of Coromandel, so it can wait. But Indochine? Need it now!
Cross-country meet went great yesterday – perfect weather, the boys’ team won (it was only a quad meet, but still), and both Gaze and Taz ran well. We did cupcakes and the gift of a special timer/watch for the coach’s birthday afterward. I was exhausted.
Bookworm did not actually make it home from college yesterday for fall break as planned – she had a lab report to finish – but she’ll be home tonight. I’ve been missing my girl.
Weather is still perfect. SOTD is the last of my sample of Aedes Oeillet Bengale, such terrific stuff.
Been curious about that Aedes, since I enjoy carnation. Good to know it’s endored by one of my scent cousins!
endorsed
It’s maybe more like a less-milky, more-floral DK Black Cashmere. Nice incense, bit of woods, and rose (I think) with spices, not a carnation soli.
I’m wearing Winter Woods, the opposite of a Slow Burn — instant love, instant purchase.
That was instant love for me too! You smell truly, wonderfully fantastic!
Thanks, I agree! I love that smoky bbq note.
Elisa did you get my email yesterday?
And in case not…
https://nstperfume.com/2015/10/21/and-the-winner-is-74/
OMG!!! No, I hadn’t gotten it yet. This is linked to an account I don’t always check every day. Wow, I have never one one of these and I really wanted this one!! Emailing you now….
won one of these, rather….
And I seriously almost responded when I saw that 😉 Congrats!
Good, glad you’re pleased. And it will be like a nice surprise all over again by the time I get it to you, LOL…
A merry Christmas 🙂
I’m wearing an accidental layering experiment today, Korrigan and Debaser. Not as bad as I would have expected. I was adding the dregs of my old dabber samples to my decants before I misplaced the little things, and I ended up cleaning up the last drops with my arms. Waste not, want not 😉
hmmm.. I adore No. 5 on you!
I like to take out my parfum flacon to smell now and then. It smells of a fresh blooming bouquet on paper and fabric. I cannot admire it on me, not even a dab on my wrist, because the bouquet fades quickly and leaves only the narcotic ylang ylang. A pity, for I think it is the bouquet that is the beauty of No. 5.
That being said, I would like to give away some decants of the parfum to anyone out who thinks the bouquet might bloom on their skin 🙂
I’m in vintage Joy today. I love it so much. My husband always wrinkles his nose when I first put it on, then 10 minutes later, he’s sniffing around me like a cat. Gotta love those indoles.
Lol, meant to leave my own comment, not reply here (can you tell I’ve been away for awhile?).
That said, um, I would love a decant of No. 5 parfum!
Well thank you for the vote of confidence!
SOTD is Moschino Couture!, which I love. I grabbed it totally at random, as I was in a hurry again today. I’ve been in a hurry each morning this week, because on Monday an abandoned kitten was found in a box at the front door of my place of work. Since I am the only person able to take her, I’ve been dealing with her in the mornings, trying to get her to eat. She may be three to four weeks old, the vet thought, and probably not yet weaned. So unfortunately, I’ve been trying to get her to eat without much success. Because I believe in rescuing adult cats, since kittens are generally more adoptable, I have never dealt with a kitten this young, so it’s been a challenge. I’m syringe feeding her a mixture of kitten replacement milk mixed with a very soft, high nutrient food the vet gave me. It took me a few days to figure out, so she lost some weight in the meantime. I’m hoping that now that I am at least getting 3/4 teaspoon in her at a feeding, that will be enough. Plus the vet gave me a nutrient dense gel to give her three times a day. Hopefully this will be enough to keep her going. I just want to get her out of the woods, so that she learns to eat on her own, and I’ll be quite happy. Then I’ll have to worry about how to integrate her into my existing clowder of four adult cats.
I love Couture too! Underrated!
I love it too, but I can’t find it at any of the discounters. I only have a mini, of which I only have about half left. I want a full bottle. At least it hasn’t been discontinued, although full bottles aren’t easily available at the online discounters. Maybe I should just buy up all of the samples to refill my mini bottle.
Poor kitty! Good luck with the feeding. Have you noticed any perfumes that your cats dislike? My dog avoids Angel (but then, so do I).
Actually, one of my cats went a little crazy about a Possets perfume oil I wore in early spring. He reacted as if it were catnip, grabbing my arm and rubbing all around it. The other three were rather meh about the scent. I can’t remember which scent it was, either. Anyway, I haven’t noticed them avoiding me when wearing any particular fragrance.
Don’t forget to…um…stimulate her other end after each feeding. Nothing goes in if there isn’t room cleared out 😉 I know it seems that tiny kittens don’t get enough food, but I’ve never had one resist for very long, and they grow fast, so soon you will be able to just set down a dish and watch her plow through. Very nice of you to take her in. A pox on whoever dumped her, and may they be plagued by bedbugs and chronic stubbed toes for the rest of their lives.
and urinary incontinence!
I agree with both you and austenfan. Actually, I was a little worried about her using a litter box, but I actually noticed this morning that she had definitely used it, so that’s OK.
PriscillaE – I suggest checking out the Love & Hisses blog. Robyn A. had 3 batches of bottle-fed kitties in the past 4 months. You may be able to email her or the shelter she works through to get additional pointers.
And, scent of the day is Mouchoir de Monsieur for maximum, quiet comfort!
I’ e never h ard of this but it could be because I don’t typically seek out monsieur perfumes.
After the kitty post above I half read this as Mr Mouser!
I am wearing Comptoir Sud Pacifique Bois de Filao for me today, but underneath I am wearing EO Rose & Chamomile lotion. the lotion scent has burned off now, but it gave the intial spritz a lovely spicy, herbal rose undertone to the CSP’s . Very nice.
Oh, I have the shower gel & conditioner but not the lotion. Might need. (Actually last time I looked I wasn’t sure they were making it anymore)
La Chasse first thing this morn, but it disappeared in an instant. I still wanted floral, but bigger and happier and with an outrageous personality- so went with Broadway Nite. She’s been great company today 🙂
Weird, La Chasse always has the opposite effect on me – I can’t escape it!
Nordstroms is so generous. When I bought my Noir pour Femme by Tom Ford last week they sent me home with a treasure trove of samples- and I received more in the mail! I got 3 samples of Chanel 5 and Hermes Jour!
Today is a Coromandel day, layered on top of Moringa Body Gel from The Body Shop that I showered with this morning. Perfect for a chilly Fall morning.
Today’s my birthday! I was originally planning on wearing my beloved Shalimar, but then my brother surprised me with breakfast and Chanel Coco! So now I’m wearing that layered over the Alien and Bath and Body Works Dark Kiss from last night. 😀 I’m in heaven.
What are your birthday/ favorite scents?
Happy birthday!
I really like Dark Kiss (it’s one of my daughter’s favorites, but every now and then I indulge in the shower gel). It’s cheap, but Nice Cheap.
Right? I’m pretty sure it’s the vetiver and Labdanum that elevate it from their typical fruity floral options.
Are you thinking of Black Amethyst? ‘Cause I thought Dark Kiss was more a straight up berries and vanilla and a boat load of sugar.
Nope, definitely Dark Kiss. It’s definitely a fruity floral, but on my skin the berries subside and never get too sweet. Pretty sure it’s the vetiver holding back the sugar.
Looked up the notes for Dark Amethyst and it sounds lovely. Is it a floriental or more of a fruity floral as well?
Happy birthday!
Thanks!
Oh, a very happy birthday to you! And kudos to your brother for knowing what you like.
Thanks! He had some help (I gave him a list). 😉
Happy Birthday!
My favorite Birthday scent is whatever I am given by the best and brightest of family members. Those who truly love me always give perfume. 🙂
Your brother has excellent taste.
Right? The best part about birthday present perfumes is you automatically associate them with the celebrations and your loved ones.
Even though he chose Coco off a list his taste truly is excellent (or at least in sync with mine). In high school his favorite cologne was Opium!
Happy birthday!
My birthday is in the middle of our hottest weather, so I usually break out the Eau de Guerlain, Chanel Cologne, or Pour Monsieur.
Happy birthday! How lucky that you’ve trained your family properly. I’m still working on mine.
The trick is to give them a list at least two weeks in advance. 😉
Even with a list my brother told me it was pretty overwhelming. Understandable when you consider ignorant and/or pushy SAs, a plethora of brands, and different concentrations (and thus different scents) for each particular fragrance. The list I gave specified the following:
1) Brand
2) Perfume Name
3) Concentration
4) Where sold
5) General description of the bottle (if there is a possibility of confusing it with a flanker)
Good luck with the training!
Oh, I just buy exactly what I want and then hand it to my husband and say, “This is what you bought me for my birthday/Christmas/our anniversary/Mother’s Day.” He likes it that way. 🙂
Ooh…I wouldn’t do it for my brother (he has an excellent nose), but I’ll be trying that trick with my S.O. Thanks!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you!
Happy Birthday! love the Alien and Dark Kiss combo.
Thank you! Even though it’s strong I feel like Alien is meant to be layered, which would explain why the flankers work so well.
Commando right now but debating on Sarrasins or vintage Jicky. I have to get that Fendi by Fendi smell out of my nose. It smells too much like Coco. I’d rather have a bottle of Coco than Fendi by Fendi. I think that Coco smells better.
The Noir 29 from Le Labo. It’s nice and I’ll be tempted by that travel spray when it launches next month!
I’m super curious about this! I wonder if it’s sold as a trio as well and if so, would it be cheaper? I have never considered getting a travel spray since the ones I have were loves and only a FB would do.
Had I known I would have worn one of her favourites, but I didn’t and am wearing SL Chêne. I noticed that my bottle is more than half empty even though I don’t wear it that much. I’ve been keeping it sealed with parafilm these days, hoping it helps stop evaporation.
My SL bottles all have terrible evaporation problems, I should do that.
Yes, Chêne is the worst out of the ones I own, but they all evaporate. Pretty bottle for sure, but not functional.
Good luck with the baby kitties, PriscillaE! When I lived in another city, an old boyfriend who did volunteer work at an animal shelter once found a shoe box dropped off with two kittens just a couple of weeks old. The person just left them there without telling anyone. The boyfriend took them home and fed them with an eye dropper until they could be weaned. I remember that one fell asleep in my hand one time, when they were really tiny. They both grew up to be beautiful longer haired cats.
SOTD is Arquiste Nanban.
SOTD is a head start on the slow burn theme for tomorrow: I’m wearing Natori edp, which took me abut 4 years to decide if I wanted a bottle, lol. Thankfully bottles are still available.
Twins! We smell great.
SOTD is Balenciaga Paris. I spritzed a few sprays right before I walked out the door for work.
That is a great work scent. One of the few that manages to be light and pleasant without being boring. I bet your coworkers appreciate you.
SOTD is Olfactivr Studios Flash Back, my post Avon Walk treat! Love it!
Well deserved. Congrats!
You should be so proud! Congratulations.
It’s warm again today so I chose Chanel Beige. I really like Beige although it doesn’t seem to get much love.
I’m a Beige lover, too 🙂
Was my wedding scent (even though i just ended up smelling of hairspray, long story)
I bet your hair looked great though and probably stayed in place all day. Beige is a perfect wedding scent. I am sure you smelled lovely! Do you have the EDT or the perfume?
My hair stayed gorgeous for days! It was ratted up to high heaven 🙂
I have the EdT, should try the parfum!
Working my way through the zillion samples with the most interesting thing on my arms being Rochas Alchimie. Am tempted to wash off at least one of them and put on Onda Voile d’extrait
Alchimie is quite intense – it will put anything else in the shadows so its not an entirely fair test. I keep some scents in cooler boxes and when I open the one with Alchimie I get an immediate swoosh of Rochas!
It is very pretty but doesn’t seem particularly strong or big on me. I did end up washing something on the other arm off and putting on the Onda. It’s my day off so I might as well wear something big and strong and unique
My SOTD is L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse.
I can tell you what my SOTD is, but I am really looking for advice today instead. I recently bought La Fille de Berlin. I am one who likes to wear lotion with my perfume. Any ideas what might be good with this?
BTW – I am working from home and decided on something playful today so went with Viva la Juicy.
I’ve yet to try this one so I don’t have any ideas for what would be a good complementary note, but for rose lotions: were you part of the discussion of the new Aerin (I think, maybe it’s EL) rose cream? I have not tested myself yet but I think several people are liking it! For a more economical choice, lots of people really like Lush’s Ro’s Argan–I don’t find it smells as much like Rose Jam as others seem to, but I think it’s still nice!
Thanks C.H. I was also thinking about Stella lotion as it smells quite similar. Someone told me to maybe mix with Pomegranate Noir by Jo Malone. That is really not one of my favorites though.
Yeah, if you don’t like Pom Noir, that prob doesn’t make sense. You could try Red Roses but the price is really steep and I feel like in the rose soliflore category, you can get something just as good at a fraction of the price. Stella sounds like a good idea!
NSTer Laura had been layering Cuir Beluga with all sorts of roses and she’s had more successes than scrubbers.
Scratch this. You were looking for a lotion to pair with La Fille, not to layer with another perfume.
Over here at Keep It Simple Thursday it’s Jasmine White Moss. Alas, it seems to be discontinued and not available. Now I want to lie down on a chaise longue…
Bergdorfs still has it…
So does the Belk website!
SOTD = Chanel 28 La Pausa
This is one of my most elegant perfumes and coincidentally, works as an homage to Catherine Deneuve.
My new nickname for 28 La Pausa is 8-spray La Pausa. This effervescent powdery but sheer iris is very ice for the relatively short time it lasts. From my experiments, 4 sprays from a bottle last just a tad over 4 hours. With 8 sprays, it has a lot more presence (but still close to skin) and last well over 10 hours.
It is fabulously elegant, you’re right. I’ve wondered a bit at all the comments here and other places about the poor lasting power of Les Exclusifs, because I haven’t found them too bad all. Your post makes me realise why– I think I nearly always use 8 sprays! Wrists, inner elbows, back of neck, tummy–no, that’s. only 6. Well, even so, I’m obviously still heavy handed. I have to make a conscious effort to be restrained with perfumes like the Elephant or the Angel rather than remembering to be generous with (for instance) Bel Respiro. I wonder if I should re-think my ways?
Coromandal and 31 Rue Cambon would be very dangerous with 8 sprays. I can see Sycamore being able to handle 8. Not as familiar with 28 La Pausa.
I agree that the 8 sprays won’t do well with Coromandel. You also need a light hand with Bois des Iles. I have decants of 31 Rue Cambon and Cuir de Russie lurking about somewhere – I need to proceed with. caution on these.
It’s best to experiment. 28 La Pausa is wispy from spray one.
Hello, hello, hello! I’m in a silly happy mood: it’s Friday before a long weekend (Labour Day on Monday here); me and the remnants of my team, we made it through the last six weeks with some grace and emerged grieving still, but intact. I’m proud of all of us. Then too, I’m working at home today, always productive; yesterday, I found some jeans in a perfect cut and wash, and if I can just get the right size, I’ll be set; the dear one woke me this morning with a perfect cup of tea; Dakkie is sitting on my tummy purring, with his mauve and grey knitted mouse firmly under one paw ( you can’t be too careful with these mice–tricksy creatures!). Yep, add all these small but compelling reasons together, and you will understand why today I want to wear a happiness perfume (different from a happy perfume). To this end, I’ve applied Fate, and with a heavy hand too…why not?
Morning Ms Waterdragon! So glad to hear that life is on the up and that perfect jeans can be found! I’m still in bed, two dogs beside me…thinking about the day. I realised yesterday that I have finally reached the last day or two of writing before my book is finished so am filled with a strange sense of anticipation….the end is in sight but I have to hold the reins so I don’t rush and blow it. I feel like wearing a sparkly perfume but I don’t own one…so I’m going with CB I hate perfume In the Library. I love the oiliness of the texture and the dustiness of the scent. Shame it doesn’t last.
Have a brilliant day! Keep smiling!
Yo! Enjoy the moment of bringing your writing to its conclusion. I’m writing today too, so there’s a pair of us at opposite ends of the country. I’m a couple of hundred hours from the end, though. I’ll think of you.
Perfumed bookends. I like it.
I’ve just switched to Feu d’Issey Miyake. And oldie but a goodie.
Aw, Dakkie and a teddy-mouse..
What a wonderful collective name for them! Pigeons and minahs parade up and down on the windowsills of our apartment taunting Dakkie, but he ignores these ridiculous bundles of feathers. Let a teddy-mouse put a whisker wrong, though, and he’s right on it: Discipline Dakkie gets the job done!
Someone very generous person just sent me a sample of Fate and it is really something upon first tentative sniff (my allergies make me start off really slow!) It seems really great – I like them Big! and Fate is the first Amouage I have smelled…and it seems like a really good candidate to apply with a heavy hand! Glad everything is working out for you at the moment…
Attrape Coeur…love love love
Still recovering from a cold, and finding it so hard to get out of bed in the morning that I don’t have enough time to read what everyone is wearing over breakfast. Reading about everyone’s perfume choices is a lovely start to the day 🙂
Spring has had a relapse into winter here, so something warm and rich seems appropriate, although I haven’t yet decided what that might be. Chambre Noire comes to mind.
I know about this irresolute weather! What, pray, is going on? Nearly November, and where’s summer? I feel I should complain to the management or something! Form a committee to Do Something About It? Ask for a commission of enquiry? It wasn’t like this when I was a gel, you know! Back then Granny Smith apples were the size of a baby’s head, the Prime Minister was always an honourable man, and the sun shone every single day…
I don’t mind continuing to wear my warm perfumes, but I’d quite like the temperature to clamber up and over the magic 20, which seems to be my cue for cooler scents every day.
oh! oh! A committee! Can I be on it? 😉
Yes, please, I’d love you to join. We’ll settle the Terms of Reference any minute, but in the meantime, shall we get started by having coffee and an almond croissant?
Best kind of committee, in my opinion, the kind that meets happily in cafes!
You mean there is another kind? In fact I just think of myself as a one-person-cake-and- coffee-committee so I get to feel ‘official’ whenever I go for a gluco-caffein high…
SOTD Bottega Veneta over the BV lotion. I’m psyched about the Mets going to the World Series next week!! My bro-in-law says he might be able to get 2 tickets but would have to choose between my father-in-law and my husband. It would make me sad if he didn’t get to go. He’s a huge, huge fan and has been wearing blue and orange all week.
That’s a tough choice! I think dad has got to go 😉 But I would be sad for my husband too. Go Mets!!!
PS. you smell spectacular!
SOTD Kisti by Slumberhouse. Can’t believe I have not gotten a decant sooner
Decanting question for you guys: so I’ve got a few perfumes I prefer dabbed rather than sprayed, so I was thinking I’d decant them into rollerballs….but I’m just realizing I don’t totally know empty rollerballs work. Do you screw on the top piece, or just pop it in? I’m wondering if they’re refillable or if I’d have to buy new ones each time I finished 5ml or whatever (would rather not do bigger decants because of potential for leaks, evaporation, perfume turning from lots of skin contact. Altho I guess that last argues for a new rollerball each time… Hm.) Any advice would be very welcome!
I just happen to have a couple of rollerballs at hand: there is a top (plastic) piece/unit to unscrew, so no need to fiddle with the actual ball as it’s part of that top unit. They’d be refillable as long as you’re refilling with the same perfume, as it the case with any bottle with plastic bits….
Oh fantastic! Thanks so much, problem solved!!
I’m wearing one of my I-don’t-know-what-to-wear fragrances: Lumiere Blanche. I’ve found it perfect for all weathers and conditions.
🙂
In Eau Premiere. I actually love No. 5…and only own the EDP, which I think gets less love than the EDT or extrait… but it makes me happy… but this morning was a long consultation with a surgeon about my younger son… nothing too scary tho–these are non-malignant tumors… had one, then two, then three…. now nine and they are growing… so time to do something. Eau Premiere felt right for the meeting. Correct, but not “in your face.” His condition is extremely rare, so there is much research and consulting that needs to be done… I am feeling very okay about it all. I liked the doctor a lot… and it is the rushed into surgeries that make me a mess… I think I am ready for the full monty now. Why hellloooo No. 5!
Ugh so sorry you guys are dealing with that!! Very glad they are not malignant but I know any on-going doctor-involved ordeal is such a drain. I think you def deserve the full monty to lift spirits!
Sounds like you took a good “wait and see” approach and now have received the guidance you need for the next steps. I hope your son’s surgery goes well and he has an easy and speedy recovery.
I think I prefer the Eau Premire but enjoy No. 5 for it’s history and elegance.
Sending you a big hug from across the Pacific
Oh, Oakland, it’s tough to be facing that for a little (or even, actually, a not so little) one. I’m so glad to know your son’s situation likely to be dealt with in a sensible, measured way. Best things to you and yours. And go for the full monty every time!
So sorry to bear about what your son is going through but it is great you have everything under control!
Glad you’re handling it well, but you’ll be in our thoughts just the same. Prayers said, fingers crossed. 🙂
Maybe not too scary, but still very serious. I think you chose a wise scent. No. 5 is my go to when I need to be assertive at the doctor’s office. Best of luck to you and your son. And the rest of your family. I wish you energy, patience, and no pain.
Very late reply, but so glad you are feeling very ok about it and have found a good surgeon.
How interesting! I was just looking up this film today – The Umbrellas of Cherbourg – recommended to me as I prepare for our upcoming Paris trip and Ms. Deneuve is the star in this. I’m excited to see it and put the request in at our local library.
SOTD is Knot, the ever lovely and stylish orange blossom scent.
EOTD and my SOTD is still going strong. I love Lakhoum and was introduced to it by a regular NSTer. I must get another sample bottle soon because I have only one or two sprays left. I visited a friend this afternoon who is recovering from knee surgery and when we hugged goodby, she said “Oh, you smell so good!” Yes, I do.
Late-night existential perfume questions: why is it that the sample you’re looking for it always the only one you can’t find (amid rows of painstakingly alphabetized samples!!), and, how can I get right with the perfume gods for whatever I did to deserve this? Went searching for Musc Rav last night and Tendre Est La Nuit tonight and both have completely disappeared. Where to?! They are living happily with the single socks my dryer eats, I suppose.
Experience tells me they are right in front of your face, exactly where they are supposed to be on the shelf. They’ve just made themselves invisible to you. They will reveal themselves if you send someone else to look for them or in a few weeks when you are in the mood for something else.
Catherine Deneuve is fabulous. My mum wore her hair a bit like that back in the day . . . I can still smell the hairspray (purchased by the gallon at the beauty supply).
I love just a dab of No 5, sometimes I crave it, but I’m not sure I will ever be able to wear more than that.
Today I skipped fragrance, and I’m glad I did because my nose noticed an amazing fragrance on a co-worker. I don’t know her well and wasn’t brave enough to ask her what it was . . . but I will build up the courage for Monday.
Happy weekend to all!
