Hey, it's another Hump Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Burberry The Beat Intense, from perfumer Dominique Ropion (along with Olivier Polge and Beatrice Piquet).
Reminder: this Friday, 9 October, wear a fragrance from perfumer Dominique Ropion, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image from Burberry's Spring 2015 Kids campaign.
Crikey – first up. In Champagne today, really enjoying the fruity rose vibe. And a complete antidote to grey drizzle outside.
YSL Champagne/Yvresse? ADORE it.
Ditto! You smell divine!
Thank you all – and yes the YSL one.
I really can’t wait to try that one, i really love a fruity chypre!
My favourite of all the YSL scents ever! You smell so great!
Me too! Wore Yvresse yesterday 🙂
Guerlain Chamade. I can see it is beautiful and certainly very elegant, but this is not my kind of Guerlain.
ahhh, it’s my favorite Guerlain. The only two I love from Guerlain are Chamade and Vol de Nuit. I’m in the minority on the Guerlain-Swoonage!
Interesting! The first time I tried Mitsouko many years ago it was like meeting an old friend. A year ago I tried Vol de Nuit at Bergdorf’s (I add this only to emphasize that it was unlikely that the bottle was off) in the extrait and perhaps one other concentration… I totally did not get it. I tested it several times… my brain and nose said, “nope.” I was really primed to love it… so strange!!!
I should NOT love Chamade but I do (SO MUCH). I totally understand logically thinking you should love something …and don’t…and then looking at the list of notes and thinking you shouldn’t love something….and do! For instance, my brain tells me I should adore Apres L’Ondee and L’Heure Bleue, but I can’t come within a foot of either without feeling ill. It’s all what makes this such an individual experience….
Ahah! There you go. I think if I were really pressed, I would have to say that L’Heure Bleue is my absolute favorite Guerlain… (yes, even more of a love than Mitsouko) and I own and wear Apres L’Ondee…
I am SO glad we are not all the same! (Oddly, I am not even sure if I would know Chamade if it splashed me in the face. I will rectify that!!)
I wore L’Heure Bleu yesterday for the first time and almost immediately thought “This worth a FB to me (although I will never have one).” Ahhh, lovely. I like many Guerlains, but LHB is likely my fave.
My favorite Guerlain too, along with Vega and Shalimar Light. I’m not really a big Guerlainophile.
Chamade is my fave Guerlain, I mean to say.
Even though much of the industry fails to acknowledge that, yes, we are different! I personally tend to gravitate towards Guerlain’s abstract patisseries, like Shalimar and LHB. But I wish I were more sophisticated and able to truly love Chamade, lol.
I love Chamade! It’s one of my HG fragrances. I like quite a few Guerlains, but I’m finding I don’t wear them very often.
I’m starting off my morning in a little Kerosene Unforsaken, thinking I should really be wearing Amarige as a nod to Ropion.
But you do smell great.
Amarige! I know it’s a 90s release, but makes me think of the big 80s.
Had a boss in the early 90s who wore it, and she had big permed hair!
me too! it’s 80s on the inside
????
It will be easy for me to wear Ropion on Friday. I have several to choose from. But wonder if I’m brave enough to wear Amarige in the office (just one spray maybe??) Or perhaps Lalique Le Parfum….or Jungle L’Elephant…or Carnal Flower…or so many others.
Anyway, sotd: about 20 sprays of L’Artisan Safran Troublant. Love it, wish it wasn’t so weak and causing a need to bathe in it!
Even if it wasnt so weak it’s still deserving of being bathed in 🙂
Seconded!
Today I’m wearing Guaiac Wood and Juniper. Out of all my recent Yves Rocher purchases, this one has surprised me the most. Normally I don’t play well with these fresher style scents but I really like this one and the £13.50 I paid for it makes it an absolute steal.
Oh, that sounds nice!
It’s a lovely woody aromatic and I like more with each wear!
I haven’t tried the YR one but I do love guaiac wood as a note. I hadn’t thought of it as fresh but you’re absolutely right – as fresh as wood can get.
I’m wearing (a lot of) VCA First. It is a wonderful scent and not at all like any of his later creations, that I happen to mostly like too.
I haven’t tested first for a long time – I should dig out my sample.
I think you will like it. My favourite is the EDP. I got mine in 2002-2003. It smells different today, a tad sweeter.
I love that – and agree it’s completely unlike his other ones.
It so is. I’ve never tried Balenciaga Rumba, which is another of his early creations. Apparently very loud and rather trashy.
It’s loud, one of those 80’s-style everything-but-the-kitchen-sink sort of things. It is Carnival in Rio. That said, there’s a really wonderful hot-dust note in the early drydown that I adore and sometimes crave.
One of the only JCE’s I really like 🙂
I actually like a lot of his creations, First is a firm favourite although I never think of it as a JCE creation.
Penhaligon’s Quercus, a citrusy floral — for men! Turns into sandalwood with a tiny smidgen of oakmoss. Not bad, but with that name (it’s Latin for “oak”) it should be a whole lot woodier.
Gosh, have not smelled that in ages, or even heard it mentioned. Wonder if it’s been reformulated to have less oakmoss?
Most everything has been. The oakmoss in my sample is there, but you’d probably miss it if you weren’t looking for it. It’s a grace note, and this is definitely not a chypre.
Wearing The One by D&G today. I think this is the only D&G I like (also the only vanilla-centric perfume I like). I don’t know if it’s worth getting a bottle of, but I’ve got a mini and a decant so I’m set for a while.
I have a bottle of this from early perfumista days and still wear it. I find it very wearable, and pleasant.
I really like One for quite a while, but eventually I find the base musk too persistent. I wish it had a little less musk – the opening is the most enjoyable peach and floral accords.
I like this one, to me it’s a more wearable Chanel Allure. Never got a full bottle though, I have just a couple of minis and a rollerball.
I’ve gone through a couple FB of this. Right now I have just a roller ball. Sorta feel like I’ve moved on…
Pretty spring day today so am matching pretty with pretty in La Chasse aux Papillons.
My sample of this jumped in my hand this morning, but I wanted something a little more mellow.
Anyway, you smell great 🙂
Oh you smell lovely
ELDO Rien. An interessting scent. I am wearing it for the first time and so far I do not get much leather from it. It mostly smells of dry wood, smoke, spices and aldehydes.
I’ve never gotten leather from it either. I am pretty horrible in picking out individual notes, it is true, which is why I just call it “Lady Executive”, rather 50’s, which might be the aldehydes…
“Lady Executive”? I like that. There is something mature and sort of austere in this fragrance. I think I would prefer more wood and less aldehydes, but Rien definitely has a strong personality.
The only Ropion I have is Sentiment Pour Homme (Escada), which I will save for Friday, and only if I remember! 😉
Today so far it is Bottega Veneta Pour Homme.
It’s the only Ropion I own too, so will probably be joining you.
SOTD is TM Alien Essence Absolue. I’m trying to wear my Ropions. This Alien is just so bright and cheerful – persistent too. I’m going to have a long day and this will keep me going.
Alien Absolue is a beauty and it certainly never let’s you down (like the Energizer Bunny, it keeps going and going and going…)
I know – if I put some at the base of my neck, so it gets in my hair, I can smell it the next day until I wash it! It gets better with age. That drydown is just goooorgeous!
Haven’t tried the Essence Absolue. (makes note)
Wearing the reminants of Guerlain Jicky. I keep forgetting how much I love it. It’s a contender for what I am taking down to Texas for a wedding. The other contenders are Chanel no 22 and Theorema. But with the airline (Spirit) that I chose, I have to pack really light to save some money. So I’m limiting myself to 1 full bottle of perfume and maybe 1 or 2 decants.
I think that after my shower, I will wear no 22 to see if I can make up my mind.
I love Jicky as well. Any of those options are great. Have fun at the wedding!
It’s raining at last in Oregon today, and I’m in Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleure. It’s extra spicy today – funny how the same perfume on the same arm can be different from one wearing to another.
I put on a spritz of Ysatis today before realizing that with a sore throat and upset stomach (from the drainage), I just didn’t feel like going into work today. I love October, but this month is usually when my allergies kick in. They’ve kicked in.
Ysatis! I love to say “Givenchy Ysatis” as if I’m French.
I need to find my small vial of vintage Ysatis for Friday! I remember smelling Ysatis in the mall stores when I was a teenager. If only I’d bought a bottle then and kept it safe for my future self. It’s a real beauty.
Ysatis is Ropion? I didn’t realize! Then I shall join PriscillaE in Ysatis today. Hope you feel better soon, Priscilla!
love Ysastis. When I was about 18 my aunt brought me back a bottle from her trip to Europe. I felt so grown up and sophisticated wearing it. of course, now I wish I would have saved just a little. but I drained the whole bottle. Hope you feel better soon.
Today i’m wearing Noir Epices, Frederick Malle, from my 3ml travel spray, free with bottle of Atelier cologne Silver Iris (they were out of AC sample’s at Liberty. I thought i’d really love this one, so it’s a relief that it’s not going on my Full Bottle list!
The opening is gorgeous, but it becomes very demure on my skin quite quickly, no lovely waft’s throughout the day unfortunately.
Also got a sample of Angelique sous le plous, which i’ve given to my hubby, his skin is les scent eating than mine, on me it barely lasted 2 hours. I have several Malle’s that i love tho, can’t win’ m’ all.
I love Noir Epices. It was pointed out to me many years ago, and I think this is true, that it is very similar to what is the original version of Chanel Coco extrait. I have a small decant of it, but I would be very happy to have a full bottle. It’s one of my favorite cold weather scents.
Interesting – I do find it like Coco but definitely different enough to stand on it’s own. The SA in the new FM store in London who was kind enough to give me a sample said she finds it like Coco too.
Yes, agree it’s like Coco, also similar in some ways to Kenzo Jungle l’elephant, both of these work better for me tho, although NE is much more refined and elegant!
I love Noir Epices, it’s at the top of my wish list. I know of nothing else like it.
I’m wearing Chanel Coco today. One of my favorites of all time!
Coco = total love!
Coco is very special!
Yes! It is almost Coco weather here too… So beautiful and so many great fall associations with that one.
Coco is my 1 and only absolute love from Chanel
I think I am going to wear that tomorrow as it is going to be cooler here. I have really grown to like that scent this year. You smell wonderful.
I’m testing out my sample of L’AP Noir Exquis. The notes seemed weird, but I’m surprised by how much I’m enjoying it. So far, it’s reminded me of candied nuts and caramelized bananas in maple syrup (even though I’m positive my brain is imagining the banana association). I don’t know how it will develop, but at the moment, it’s wholly delicious yet not too sweet.
Sounds yummy!
Banana – oh god no, that’s put me right off!
I’m 100% positive there’s no banana there and I’m imagining it. I think the maple syrup note just reminds me of when I make pancakes and so I’m making an unfounded mental leap to fruit-flavored syrup. I’m pretty sure I’m the only person who will ever say the word “banana” when referring to Noir Exquis. Don’t let my delusions turn you off from trying it! 🙂
You have made me even hungrier – somehow I am thinking of a gloriously sophisticated sundae with dark maple syrup. This is a good thing.
While this is woodier than a sundae, you have DEFINITELY just inspired me to put maple syrup on ice cream (maybe along with some chestnuts)
Slumberhouse week for me, working through a bunch of samples. This morning I picked Kiste. A very fruity and rich tobacco peach, a bit too fruity for my taste maybe, but interesting. I don’t get much honeysuckle, but the drydown is full of honey. A rich comfort scent, would be perfect in front of a log fire with a cup of tea.
I love Kiste, it’s so cozy.
SOTD= DSH Scent of Hope, lovely warm peach iris…
Re: Ropion, used to have Ysatis, as Safari, but have nothing on that extensive list now. Guess this is an excuse to get a little Alien maybe? Or what would be a good current Ropion to try?
Carnal Flower!
Ah, tuberose is not my favorite, but I have ordered a sample of that and also POAL, as well as some odd FM Himalayan thing that popped and and seemed interesting…Samples are the bomb!
Lab on Fire What We Do in Paris is a Secret is the one I’d be testing again if it didn’t required pulling out the big unsorted sample box. I may work myself up to that by Friday, but I’ll probably fall back on one of the Malles.
Love Scent of Hope – I’m so thankful that DSH did that.
Opium Orchidee de Chine which I thought I would have better luck smelling through congestion than I do. Maybe I’ll rinse it off and go with Freschiiissimo like I did yesterday
Freschiiissimo it is
Day 2 of sunshine after NINE DAYS of rain. There are mushrooms all over the yard… which I am going to go and finish mowing in a few minutes, as I didn’t get done yesterday.
I had an experience yesterday that redefined “creepy” for me: while I was mowing, a stinkbug flew down the open neck of my shirt and INTO MY BRA. Ew ew ew ew ewewewew. I shook him out immediately, but I’m STILL creeped out. Shudder.
After mowing and showering, I’ll be wearing Safari again.
This made me laugh! That is creepy, but also comes across as hilarious 🙂
Lecherous bug!
I hope you slapped him 😉
Sounds awful, what is a stink bug?!
The brown marmorated stink bug is such a pest, and they invade houses to escape cold weather:
http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsheets/brown-marmorated-stink-bug
Apparently they also invade, um, unmentionables. 🙂
Ew! Sorry you had to suffer to make me laugh 😉
Ooook! I feel your reaction from deep in my memories. I once had a huhu bug tangle in my hair in the days when I kept it long, and there is nothing worse than scratchy feet scrabbling on your skin and desperate wings making the muddle worse. At least huhu doesn’t smell, though. I take it that a stink bug smells horrible when it’s upset?
Yuck! On the few occasions I’ve had insects or spiders trapped in my clothes or hair, my fear is that I’ll squash them trying to get them out. Having a spider in my hair is not a great feeling, but the idea of a squashed spider is much worse! At least stink bugs look quite solid, looking at nozknoz’ link.
A mosquito flew into my bag and I’m pretty sure it’s there, which creepa me out. So I can only imagine the horrors of having a creepy crawly in your bra????
I am wearing vintage Chanel No. 5 voile perfumé. It is perfect, comforting and smooth. I am enjoying it a lot.
I am sure this smells completely fantastic! I remember the voile lines – I wish I had some of Coco, No 5 & No 19!!
I wish I had the Coco and No.19 too.
Breaking character today. Wearing Demeter Snow. On me it smells more like damp soil. Which is fine because I hate snow.
Lol 🙂
I agree that it smells like wet earth! It’s a very specific type of snow fall, I guess- the last snow of the year, when it’s already spring and shoots are starting to peek through in the garden. The scent was a disappointment for me, because some of the Demeters are just shockingly realistic (like Gingerale!), and i really hoped Snow would smell like the air does before a heavy snowfall.
You descibed it perfectly.
Indeed!
I finished my sample of Jour d’Hermes this morning. This one really grew on me.
I’m leaving for St Martin island tomorrow morning! Can’t wait! Any perfume shopping I should be doing there (I think it’s a tax free island)?
Wearing Perles de Lalique with its dry mineral rose.
You smell wonderful! I love the elegance of Perles, such a sophisticated scent.
No perfume applied as of yet. Still no work, so am contemplating gardening today…
Robin, I am wondering if one day we could do a poll on folks’ absolute favorite incense and candles… I am almost done with a packet of Shoyeido that I think Holly sent me… I love the Armenian papers…but they burn so quickly… and candles are so expensive that I am loath to try them unless they’ve come highly recommended. I am always looking for that perfect churchy-incense scent….
Oooh – I would be into this. I’ve been getting into candles lately and would love to hear what everyone likes.
It’s that time of the year to start burning candles again. Would love to hear of a not-too-expensive incense candle.
That’s a great idea! I’m intrigued by the Frederic Malle candles but I’ll never buy one unless I can find a place to sniff them or one of my scent twins vouches for one.
FYI, my fav candle is the Annick Goutal Noël candle, a gorgeous Christmas tree scent. I’m not sure they make it any more though. The votives have been showing up on discounters.
I wish the candle makers offered wax samples.
See. I just bought a 5.8 oz version of the Noël candle from Bonanza for a song (well, it looks like the label is from 2012…so it may not be a bargain at all… we shall see…) I am THAT easy, apparently.
PS. I may be constitutionally unable to buy myself a Frederic Malle candle because of the cost. . . I just cannot stomach it for wax and a wick, even if the scent is amazing… sigh
I’m looking for a good churchy-incense candle myself. Zagorsk would be *perfect*, but it’s sooooooo spendy. Was hoping for something similar but less $$$$.
I’m looking forward to getting my AG Noel candle out too.
Yes, great idea.
Happy Hump Day Everyone! I should have saved my fragrance that I’m wearing today for tomorrow. Then I could have called it my “Throwback Thursday” fragrance. My SOTD is Lauren by Ralph Lauren. I got a decant a few weeks ago from STC when they were running their special. I purchased a few scents that I wore back in the day. I used to wear Lauren when I was in high school and totally loved it. I thought I was so sophisticated that I owned a fragrance with such a pretty bottle. My younger self loved this, but my older self……not as much. It’s still a nice fragrance, but my tastes have matured and evolved. But, it was nice to revisit an old friend! 🙂
Lauren. My HS fave. Such a gorgeous scent. So many memories. Absolutely shameful reform.
You are absolutely right!! I knew something was off. I hate when they change it all around. Like the old saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it”.
Another old saying “you can’t go home again” applies also. I have found that true with most of the perfumes I used to wear.
Awwww! I never heard that one, but I like it! Will have to borrow that one from you.
Chanel Beige today. Loving its mildly sweet and honeyed white flowers. An innocent, yet sophisticated and warm Chanel on me.
It really is innocence executed in such a sophisticated way.
Nuit de Tubereuse today.
Nice. Love that one.
I had a very vivid perfume dream last night! In my dream, I fell in love with Eau Premiere (which I don’t own and never tested) and was enjoying my Bois des Iles extrait, which smelled extra delicious in the dream. I guess I have Chanel on my mind!
However, I went with Guerlain LPRN edp today, it’s one of my favourites. 🙂
Ha! Scented dreams, where our wallets are bottomless and everything smells amazing. 🙂
Sounds like the kind of dream that Jean des Esseintes from À Rebours would experience. Ahhhh…wish I too had a perfume organ.
I’m pretty sure I smelled Bois des Iles in the wild today. I was walking near Macy’s and unfortunately, it was like a zoo as usual so did not see who was wearing it.
So much happening at work today and on those occasions, I don’t get to post until later, if at all, and then I miss out on half the fun.
I’ve got Nirvana Black in my hair but also am enjoying this sample of Ex Idolo’s Ryder that I got from Twisted Lily the other day. I’m not always an amber person but this is delicious.
Hope you’re all well! Going to try to scan through the comments to check in on everyone.
I always remember your comment about spraying hair as a sort of diffuser and now I tend to spray my hair more often. I don’t know what Ryder smells like, but I know your hair smells lovely.
SOTD is Bottega Veneta Eau Legere. I am still trying to decide if I like it or not. It seems to be growing on me though I am still not a big patchouli lover.
I like this one–I find the crispness of the Eau Legere easier to wear than the original BV.
Sick in bed today because the custodians at work petitioned to be exempt from filling soap dispensers. Imagine 22 germy hands in the classroom (I teach grade 6 as my day job). Think I have the flu and cannot smell anything except for bacon.
Once I fully regain my sense of smell, I’d be wearing Mémore Liquide’s Amour Liquide. Half price at only $48 Canadian. Very close to SL’s Bois Vanille but sans le woody drydown.
Mmmmm bacon. 🙂
I like (and completely endorse) this insightful comment.
Oooh oohhh… I’ve been wanting to share this. Annikky and Pixel, if memory serves, neither one of you is single… but you may know someone who wants to meet someone…. or should I say meat someone?
http://www.oscarmayer.com/findbaconlove
toooooooo funny!
Hahahahaaa! ALMOST sorry I’m not single.
“Must love bacon” is on my checkist along with “must look, dance, and sing like sizzlin’ hot Hugh Jackman” , but I had some qualms about downloading the app because you have to sign in via Facebook. Knew there was a catch : /
SOTD is vintage Balmain Ivoire. I feel pretty, oh so pretty, oh so pretty and witty and bright….
LOL!
Good choice
Once again, I intended to wear Ropion but something else called to me. SOTD is SL De Profundis.
It’s All Your Fault, you all: did some mall sniffing yesterday, forced the poor girl at The Body Shop to go digging for their last dregs of Smoky Poppy stuff… nice! Bought the perfume, body butter, and shower gel. Mmmm spicy! Why would they discontinue this just as fall is getting going?
AND my J Crew / Arquiste rollerballs showed up in the mail yesterday. Which are All Your Fault too (and they both smell quite nice!)
UPS tracking says my 31 Rue Cambon is due to be delivered today. Now that one is All My Fault, and I can’t wait…..!
I’m in Rue Cambon today. A well-known story: I had an important meeting, wanted to smell elegant and in control, but very me. Worked like a charm, as always.
I think I will forever associate you with that fragrance. You always talk about it with so much love.
All of us NSTers? Hahaha if so, well I’ll plead guilty because we are a bunch of enablers 😉
Congrats on your purchases!
I too was powerless to withstand the siren call of the J.Crew: it was the last leg of a hellacious commute back home (clocked in at almost two hours overall) and there was a J Crew right in front of me, with the last rollerball of No. 57. waving its little hands at me.
I know. Like, when did perfume get hands that wave? Annoyingly, sometimes the perfumes sold on eBay wave at me too.
Vintage mini’s on Etsy jump up and down and scream at me. Pushy little %*%((*%!!!
Busy day yesterday, didn’t get to check in, but had excellently scented day. Wore EL Sensuous, and Dang! Smelled great, and lasted all the live long day. Hadn’t worn it since last winter, so a pleasant surprise.
Also, Natori is today, and it also smells lovely 🙂
A gray and drizzly day here, so I’m wearing Ashoka, which for me evokes an Indian market, early in the morning, before the crowds arrive and the sun makes the fruits overripe.
SOTD – Padparadscha, nice and spicy, but not dark.
Maybe Robin, you should call your site ” now enable this”
So true!
Grumble grumble… “FYI, my fav candle is the Annick Goutal Noël candle, a gorgeous Christmas tree scent…”
You speak the truth my friend.
Hahahaha funny cuz it’s true..
So true!! But would not differentiate us from sites that enable purchases of other things 😉
P.S. Burberry has moppets!
We’re having a beautiful fall day so I decided to celebrate with Marni.
Perfect.
Wearing my new Arquiste for J.Crew #57 that I bought blind recommendations from this group combined with the huge discount. Nice, warm, vanilla-y. I think I’ll like it even better when it turns cold here. Reminds me of CK Be, which I wore to death circa Winter 2001.
Hello, everyone. I love your choices: I think if I won a lot of money, I would put them into a list, take it into the right shop and push it across the counter, and say,”May I have one of everything, please?”
I’m drowning in marking at the moment, so chose Chamade to encourage and refresh me in those moments when I find myself saying, “What? Noooooo! How did you get this from that? Did I really teach it so badly?” I’m in despair at the poor scholarships do circular logic, and as for the expression, well– I love my students (no, really!), but at Year 2, they are as the beasts that howl when it comes to structuring a sentence. I haven’t given a grade above B- and even Chamade won’t help for long at this rate…
And there’s a certain black irony to criticising my students’ expression and failing to proofread my own writing: I meant to say “poor scholarship and circular logic” and I have NO idea why autocorrect produced that variation. Maybe I should follow Perthgirl and turn the thing off.
My autocorrect on Word surrendered and TURNED ITSELF off because it could not handle spell-checking French and English text at the same time.
The number of errors I overlooked is pretty horrendous and my document is close to 100 000 words. You’d be drowning in Chamade by the end of my intro.
Sigh… can’t figure out how to turn AC back on.
Independent life in the autocorrect — someone commented on that just yesterday.
Hey, take care. Sounds as though you’ve got to the grim, “I’m-going-to-submit-no-mater-what stage”. I know it well, both from personal and vicarious experience with the students I supervise. There will be joy in the morning (I think that might be Biblical–my dear mama used to say it, but she never gave me a source.)
Thanks for the words of support: I’m acutally in the post-viva (I passed) editing phase. Hopefully, my examiners will just give all the corrections a quick glance – heck, I don’t want to read my dissertation all over again!
I’ve been testing Alaïa. It smells good, objectively, but I can’t say I’m enjoying it. I associate violet with sadness, and the part of AlaÄ«a that Luca Turin associates with the luxury of the Concorde is giving me flashbacks of working late, leaving home at 3 a.m. for the airport, the extreme discomfort of long haul flights, and jet lag. It’s worth trying if you like violet, though.
The odd thing is that I do love perfumes that remind me of duty free shops. I guess they were my oasis from the travails of the journey.
Here’s the LT review:
http://arabia.style.com/beauty/beauty-guide/fall-winter-2015-perfumes-latest-azzedine-alaia-miu-miu-coty-luca-turin-review/
Such a pretty bottle! Thanks for the link. Turin’s quote, “surpassingly weird fragrance, one that, like some great orators, starts out very quiet and forces you to lean in to hear the words…” sums up my thoughts about Lutens de Profundis. That said, I am not sure Turin would choose to wear Alaïa, but he certainly enjoyed reviewing it…
Here’s LT on Miu Miu:
“I cannot imagine why a woman would want to smell like her soul has been scorched…”
That is just about priceless!!! LOL
Lol, reading that line actually made me want to blind buy it. There are days when that is EXACTLY how I want to smell.
Hahaha great minds.
I put on some Arquiste Nanban today. At the moment, all of the notes are sort of blending together (and very nicely), but I am wondering if later on, anything in particular will jump out at me, as there are some interesting notes here.
Very interested to hear what you think. I think I pick out the leather the most, but nothing really dominates.
Nanban is getting a lot of positive comments. It’s joined all the others on my list of things to try.
I’m wearing Diptyque Volutes EDP today. Yummy. I’m happy to finally be wearing my fall stuff. I’ll probably need a bottle of this one as my decant is starting to run a bit low.
You smell great! Love Volutes.
So the Barcelona terminal 1 not only has two of the new Prada Infusions as well as all Hermes and Tom Ford without a scary SA hovering in front. But it also had the full Chanel Exclusives set, in other words sniffing heaven 🙂
Smelled Beige and Jersey and SOTE is now Sycamore. The later stages are heavenly!
Oh thank you for this update! Currently on a major jag of trying to confirm airport offerings 🙂
Not sure what terminal 2 has, but terminal 1 has one of the most varied offerings I’ve seen in a while. If you need an update on Zurich (my home base) let me know.
Yesterday’s scent of le Labo Ylang made a comeback when I went to the gym today (nice bonus feature). I love this new sample, though none of its stages seem particularly me, save for the smoky one in the middle.
After having Nanban on for a while now, I have to say that I am getting mostly leather and something a bit powdery. (The powder is just kind of soft and nice).
I found it really developed differently depending on the medium. On skin it was woody, on clothing I got leather, and in my hair it was all incense.
Today is our wedding anniversary so we went to Austin for a day of record store browsing and gawking at vintage junk. Can’t believe we’ve been married nine years and I still prefer him to anyone I’ve ever met.
Still had some musk from last evening’s Musk Tonkin so topped off this morning with a touch more. We’re going to dinner in a bit so I popped in to read everyone’s posts for inspiration. I think I’ll test Nanban some more at dinner.
Happy 9th Anniversary!!
Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary! Nan Ban sounds like a must try next time I’m at the Pru
Holy moly, this blog is so popular. I think it’s over 180 comments! Today I totally doused myself in Jacomo 8. I’m thinking a lot about my upcoming trip to India and that one smells just like spicy chai tea in a clay cup.
I was in Beacon Hill at my favorite half underground costume jewelry joint today. I remembered that they used to have old bottles of perfume in there a long time ago and was instinctively homing in just like a salmon to it’s birthplace. Well there was no perfume in there today, but the lady who works there was wearing the most gorgeous perfume so I had to ask her what it was. She said that it was something she discovered nine years ago and she hasn’t worn anything else since because it was the most beautiful perfume she had ever smelled. I asked her the name and she told me. Angel!! Swear to god it smelled heavenly on her. I love Boston people.
Isn’t it odd how Angel is completely gorgeous on about 1% of the people who wear it? I’ve had similar experiences where I would have sworn someone was wearing a completely different beast.
