Monday scent of the day 9/14

Posted by Robin on 14 September 2015 144 Comments

Portland Maine

So sorry, but it's another Monday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm commando because I'm about to get on an airplane for a short flight home. Posting will be lighter than usual today as a result, but later today we'll have a review of the new Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme, plus, this post will get a pretty picture.

Reminder: this Friday, 18 September, will be H2O Friday: wear a fragrance with a marine / aquatic / water note, or wear a fragrance that reminds you of the sea (or some other body of water) in some other way.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I sprayed Good Girl Gone Bad on Saturday. Its Monday-I have showered and can still smell it on my skin. Not that its a bad thing-but that is some longevity!
Have a good flight ahead and get home safe!

today the temp dropped to 50 degrees this morning with a high only in the mid 70s later this afternoon. Autumn has begun! Pumpkins abound. I had my PSL (pumpkin spice latte) this morning. (yay!)

sotd: Givenchy Ambre Tiger. It’s a lovely amber.

Everything pumpkin is in full swing! Love this time of year and joining you with a lovely amber of my own, Ambre Russe by Parfum d`Empire.
Cozy and warm for a cooler Sept. day.

I adore the seasonal pumpkin scones and bagels. I had scorned the latter, being a bagel purist, until I tried one…

I noticed that Ben and Jerry’s has a “limited edition” Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream in my local supermarket. I passed only because I cannot fit into any of my clothes and need to start to do something about it….. but it was sorely tempting.

Like Perfume Sniffer above, I knew today would feel like Fall. Thinking about Volutes, Vetyverio, Chergui, and others, I was finally excited for the change of season. I wore Joy today to acknowledge the more appropriate conditions for a little skank, and for the happiness of the season.

I’m always amazed at how you squeeze NST into your normal life.

I’m wearing Le Parfum de Thérèse and it suits the early autumn weather we are having really well. Trying to do some homework mixed with household chores like washing and cleaning. Not a brilliant day, but not a bad one either.

One small spray of Mitsouko EDP. It’s cool now, and this just felt right when I executed the daily grab/sniff/evaluate/repeat loop. It’s supposed to hit 80 today, so we’re in that lovely in-between, with cool evenings and warm days.

Winter should be giving way to Spring by now, but it’s finally a little cold here, and very rainy, so I’m wearing Rose Kashmir, which feels like a red embroided silk scarf.

Wearing a Jasmine White Moss/Ferre mashup. I could pretend it was inspired layering, but it was in fact a case of grabbing the wrong bottle when topping up a decant. Thank goodness it seems to work.

Sounds like a good combo – even though it was a mistake. I’ve done that a few times – mostly if I put on a fragrance right after I shower and then later after I get dressed I forgot I already put something on. Happy accident.

It’s been a weekend of perfume sniffing but I did not find anything that I was terribly excited about. I got a sample of Black Opium in a goody bag and wore it today. It really reminds me of Cinema, so I am enjoying it. Happy Monday!

I’m wearing the new Marc Jacobs fragrance “Decadence”, which is wretched.

Because of the bottle design, I think it would make a nice gift for a teenage girl or college student who likes a little glamour. The scent is horribly sweet though, so I couldn’t recommend it for anyone older.

Just to clarify — because the comment above doesn’t appear to make an enormous amount of sense! — I’m only wearing this perfume because I sampled it today.

And it’s putrid, but the handbag-shaped bottle is a winner.

Im a huge fan too- OI is in my top 10, at least.
I have some of the vintage and a bottle of the re-released version and the only difference I notice is that the original has a slighly boozier opening, but after that, much the same. I think it was The Non-Blonde’s review that says pretty much the same thing.
Fragrancex gets the re-release version in occasionally. I got my fb and my back-up there ;-)

My SOTD is Roses Shining Everywhere by Living Libations. The first 30 minutes are too sour/rose otto-ish (I prefer rose absolute) for me, but after that tones down, this stuff becomes SO beautiful. Very natural smelling rose with spices. I keep catching whiffs of myself and I am quite pleased :-)

I’ve been on a rose-kick, as well :-) I’ve been drinking and wearing rosewater this summer and wearing rose absolute.

Simplers Botanicals sells rose absolute diluted in jojoba oil and vanilla CO2 in jojoba oil. They layer quite nicely. The vanilla CO2 is woody, like sun-warmed pine furniture.

Wearing Philosophy Fresh Cream layered over Laura Mercier Ambre Vanille’ body butter. cool but sunny today.

I can’t tell you how sorry I am. I have been thinking of you and wondering how she was doing. Cats are tough little survivors but have such delicate renal systems. Seems like when they’re sick, they are really sick. I hope she pulls through so you can relax.

Dear Rena, I do understand what you are going through. But I want you to know that the animal’s resilience and ability to heal is tremendous so please do not lose hope. My dog recently was diagnosed with cancer, had major surgery, two blood transfusions, and some complications. At one point the worst imaginable options were on the table. But despite all that my dog has bounced back amazingly well and have exceeded everyone’s expectations. A combination of modern medicine and Chinese herbs have done wonders for him. We will always have to take it day by day, but he is back to being the tornado he is! Your kitty can too! Sending you hope and lots of positive energy.

I’m wearing Molinard Habanita from a sample today. I had tried this one before, but I remembered not liking it much, thinking it was too powdery. I think the previous sample that earned the “too powdery” assessment might have been vintage, but I don’t remember exactly. I like this one, though.

FWIW, I love Habanita, but some days it’s just a smothering death-by-powder asphyxiation, and then other times back to its delicious self. Maybe your nose plays the same tricks on you that mine does? :-) lol

Hello, all. Spring-like weather is beginning to happen here and I am starting to wear softer, brighter clothes. I have a silly feeling that I’ve lost weight and gained lightness, as though I could take to the air like a floating thought. I’m grounding myself with Epic. The rose, woods and spices are deep enough to anchor me to the here-and-now, but there’s an airiness that allows a little bit of spring wafting as well.

I’ve recently purchased a 30ml bottle of reformulated habanita, & it’s very powdery on me, I was hoping to get more vetiver, I might try layering it with Encre noir, another recent blind buy, which i love, or perhaps a leather?..

I’m back in NY after 2+ stressful, hot weeks in LA with my sick mother. Came home to some decants I ordered and a generous package from a kind NSTer. I’m wearing Reminiscence Patchouli from said package and I’m really liking it. Slightly must , earthy patch with a chocolate note reminiscent of Borneo 1834 with a more noticeable patch. Reviews describe it as smelling like hippie patchouli , but I’m not getting that. Nice for this mild day today.

I’m wearing ELdO Putain des Palaces from the new sampler set at Sephora. At first I was in love, thinking this could be a signature scent. Then it got sweaty. Cumin maybe? The drydown is nice but I’m no longer feeling the need for a full bottle. Too bad, I thought I had a winner. I guess that’s what samples are for.
